Speaker 0

你好。

Hello.

Speaker 0

这是BBC学习英语的六分钟英语。

This is Six Minute English from BBC Learning English.

Speaker 0

我是菲尔。

I'm Phil.

Speaker 3

我是贝卡。

And I'm Becca.

Speaker 3

你有没有做过什么体力上有挑战的事情,菲尔?

Have you ever done something physically challenging, Phil?

Speaker 3

比如跑马拉松,或者爬山?

Like running a marathon maybe, or climbing a mountain?

Speaker 0

我爬过一些山,但都只是很小的山,所以谈不上什么挑战。

I've climbed some mountains, but only very little ones, so it wasn't that challenging.

Speaker 0

如果你喜欢身体上的挑战,也许你可以尝试艺术游泳,也就是以前所说的同步游泳。

If physical challenges are something you enjoy, maybe you should try artistic swimming or synchronised swimming as it used to be called.

Speaker 0

这是一种结合了舞蹈和体操的特殊形式。

A combination of dance and gymnastics with a difference.

Speaker 0

在艺术游泳中,运动员在水中跳舞的同时还要屏住呼吸。

In artistic swimming, athletes dance underwater while holding their breath.

Speaker 3

你刚才说在水下跳舞?

Did you say dance underwater?

Speaker 0

是的。

Yes.

Speaker 0

游泳者在水中倒立跳舞,同时屏住呼吸。

Swimmers dance upside down in the water holding their breath.

Speaker 0

正如我们将听到的,这是一种极其苛刻的运动,需要自律、耐力和多年的训练。

As we'll hear, it's an extremely demanding sport, which requires discipline, stamina and years of training.

Speaker 0

和往常一样,我们还会学习一些有用的词汇和短语,你可以在我们的网站上通过测验和练习册进行练习。

As usual, we'll be learning some useful new words and phrases, and you can practise these with the quiz and worksheet on our website.

Speaker 0

这就是bbc英语学习网。

That's bbclearningenglish.com.

Speaker 3

太好了。

Great.

Speaker 3

但在那之前,菲尔,我有个问题想问你。

But first, Phil, I have a question for you.

Speaker 3

艺术游泳在1984年成为奥运会项目。

Artistic swimming became an Olympic sport in 1984.

Speaker 3

但自那以后,哪个国家赢得的金牌最多?

But which country has won the most gold medal since then?

Speaker 3

是a) 俄罗斯,b) 中国,还是c) 美国?

Is it a) Russia, b) China, or c) The USA?

Speaker 0

哦,我觉得是b) 中国。

Oh, I think it's b) China.

Speaker 3

好吧,我们会在本集后面揭晓正确答案。

Well, we'll reveal the correct answer later in this episode.

Speaker 3

来自斯洛伐克的西尔维娅·索洛莫西奥娃是欧洲锦标赛奖牌得主。

Silvia Solomosziova from Slovakia is a European championship medalist.

Speaker 3

她也是首位在社交媒体上拥有超过百万粉丝的艺术游泳运动员,这得益于她头朝下在水下行走的视频在网络上走红。

She's also the first artistic swimmer with over a million social media followers after videos of her walking upside down underwater went viral.

Speaker 3

在此,她向BBC世界服务节目《对话》的主持人达什亚尼·内瓦盖姆解释了被称为‘套路’的不同类型的游泳舞蹈。

Here, she explains the different types of swimming dances called routines to Dashiani Nevagayim, presenter of BBC World Service programme, The Conversation.

Speaker 4

如果你要向一个从未见过艺术游泳的人解释这项运动,你会如何描述它?

If you had to explain artistic swimming to someone who has never seen it, how would you describe it?

Speaker 5

所以我觉得这取决于你看的是单人、双人还是团体项目,因为单人项目只有一个人,双人项目是两个人,而团体项目可以有八个人或十个人。

So I would say it depends if you're watching like a solo or duet or team routine because in solo, there's one person, in duet, there's two people, and in team routines there can be eight people or 10 people.

Speaker 5

在团体项目中会有很多托举动作,实际上在表演中我们虽然面带微笑,但笑容背后我们可能已经累得不行了。

And in the team routines there's a lot of lifts, and actually in the routines we are smiling, but we are hiding behind the smile because we are actually maybe dying.

Speaker 5

我们其实都缺氧了,但依然保持微笑,所以观众会觉得这很容易,实际上并非如此。

We don't have oxygen, so but we are smiling and people think that it's easy when it's actually not.

Speaker 0

花样游泳的表演可以是单人项目,也就是仅由一人完成,也可以是双人项目,即由两人共同完成。

Artistic swimming routines are performed solo, meaning by just one person, or as a duet, which means by two people.

Speaker 0

还有团队项目,其中一名游泳者会被举出水面。

There are also team routines where one swimmer is lifted up out of the water.

Speaker 0

所有这些项目共同的特点是,它们在体能上极其艰难。

What all these routines have in common is that physically they are incredibly hard.

Speaker 3

是的。

Yes.

Speaker 3

艺术游泳项目是在水中倒立、屏住呼吸完成的。

Artistic routines are done upside down, underwater, without oxygen.

Speaker 3

游泳者的动作需要像芭蕾舞者一样优雅。

The swimmer's movements need to be as graceful as a ballet dancer.

Speaker 3

最重要的是,它必须看起来毫不费力,因为裁判会根据艺术表现打分。

And above all, it has to look effortless because judges award points for artistic expression.

Speaker 3

西尔维娅说她用微笑来掩饰自己,这是一种习语,意思是通过表现出快乐的外表来隐藏痛苦。

Sylvia says she hides behind a smile, an idiom meaning to hide pain by presenting a happy outward appearance.

Speaker 0

要在任何运动的顶尖水平上取得成功,都需要极大的奉献精神。

To succeed at the top level of any sport requires a huge amount of dedication.

Speaker 0

西尔维娅每天训练八小时,每周六天,在她的教练兼母亲的指导下训练,而她的母亲也曾是艺术游泳冠军。

Sylvia trains eight hours a day, six days a week under the guidance of her coach, who's also her mum and a former artistic swimming champion herself.

Speaker 0

在这里,她与达蒂亚尼·纳瓦尔纳加姆讨论了为了取得成功所做出的牺牲,此对话来自BBC世界服务节目《对话》。

Here, discusses the sacrifices she's made to succeed with Dathiani Navarnagham for BBC World Service's The Conversation.

Speaker 4

由妈妈训练和指导,这容易吗?

How easy was it, being trained and coached by your mum?

Speaker 5

我觉得一方面挺好的,因为你可以在家多练习。

I think it's good on one side, because you can practise more at home.

Speaker 5

但另一方面,有时候也不好,因为在家时你本该放松休息,却还在训练。

But on the other hand, it's not sometimes good because you're training when you're at home, you're supposed to be, like, chilling.

Speaker 4

某种程度上,你根本得不到喘息的机会。

There's no respite from it in a way, I guess.

Speaker 5

是的。

Yeah.

Speaker 5

我根本没有时间做其他任何事。

I didn't have time for anything else.

Speaker 3

西尔维娅认为,由妈妈担任教练有好有坏。

Sylvia thinks there are good and bad things about being coached by her mum.

Speaker 3

好处是她可以在家练习,但另一方面,她感觉好像一直在训练。

It's good because she can practice at home, but on the other hand, it feels like she's training all the time.

Speaker 3

她使用‘另一方面’这个短语来表达这种对比的观点。

She uses the phrase on the other hand to show this contrasting opinion.

Speaker 3

西尔维娅真正期待的是放松,这是一个表示休息或闲逛的俚语。

What Sylvia really looks forward to is chilling, a slang word meaning relaxing or hanging out.

Speaker 0

对于年轻运动员来说,平衡运动、学业和朋友关系很困难,很难从训练中得到喘息的机会。

For young athletes, balancing sport with school and friends is difficult, and it's hard to get a respite from training.

Speaker 0

喘息是指从困难的事情中暂时休息一下。

A respite is a temporary break from doing something difficult.

Speaker 2

Do you

Speaker 0

你知道吗,贝卡?

know what, Becca?

Speaker 0

我觉得我需要从这些关于训练的谈话中休息一下。

I think I need a respite from all this talk about training.

Speaker 0

现在,

Now,

Speaker 5

什么

what

Speaker 0

你问题的答案是什么?

was the answer to your question?

Speaker 3

是的,菲尔。

Yes, Phil.

Speaker 3

我问过你,自从艺术游泳成为奥运项目以来,哪个国家赢得的金牌最多?

I asked you which country had won the most gold medals for artistic swimming since the beginning of the Olympic sport?

Speaker 0

我说我觉得是中国。

And I said I thought it was China.

Speaker 3

嗯,你在地理上说得非常接近。

Well, you're very close geographically.

Speaker 3

事实上是俄罗斯。

It is in fact Russia.

Speaker 3

好的。

Okay.

Speaker 3

让我们回顾一下我们学过的词汇,首先是solo,指一个人单独完成的事情,还有duet,指两个人共同完成的事情。

Let's recap the vocabulary we've learnt, starting with solo, something done alone, and duet, something done by two people.

Speaker 0

习语‘hide behind a smile’的意思是通过表现出快乐的外表来隐藏痛苦的情绪。

The idiom hide behind a smile means to hide painful feelings by presenting a happy external appearance.

Speaker 3

短语‘on the other hand’用于引入一个对比的观点或陈述。

The phrase on the other hand is used to introduce a contrasting opinion or statement.

Speaker 0

‘Chilling’是俚语,意思是放松。

Chilling is slang for relaxing.

Speaker 3

最后,‘respite’指的是从困难的事情中休息一下。

And finally, a respite is a break from doing something difficult.
