Speaker 1

你好。

Hello.

Speaker 1

这里是BBC英语教学的《六分钟英语》。

This is Six Minute English from BBC Learning English.

Speaker 1

我是尼尔。

I'm Neil.

Speaker 3

我是乔治。

And I'm Georgie.

Speaker 1

有些孩子特别讨厌吃西兰花。

Some kids hate eating broccoli.

Speaker 1

对另一些孩子来说,是蘑菇。

For others, it's mushrooms.

Speaker 1

最让人头疼的,当然是抱子甘蓝。

And worst of all, of course, our brussels sprouts.

Speaker 1

每个有小孩的家长都知道孩子吃什么、不吃什么。

Every parent of young children knows what food they will and won't eat.

Speaker 1

乔治,你小时候最不喜欢吃什么食物?

What food did you dislike as a child, Georgie?

Speaker 3

我小时候特别讨厌坚果和牛油果。

Oh, when I was little I used to absolutely hate nuts and avocados.

Speaker 3

但现在长大了,我特别喜欢这两样东西。

But now, as an adult, I absolutely love both of those things.

Speaker 1

这我一点都不意外,它们都很好吃。

I'm not surprised, they're delicious.

Speaker 3

那你呢,尼尔?

What about you, Neil?

Speaker 3

你小时候有没有不喜欢吃的东西?

Did you dislike any foods?

Speaker 1

你知道吗?

Do you know what?

Speaker 1

我觉得我那时候什么都爱吃。

I think I liked most things.

Speaker 3

一家人吃晚饭是挺开心的,能聊聊各自的一天,一起吃饭。

Family dinnertime can be fun a chance to reconnect, hear about everyone's day and share a meal.

Speaker 3

但当孩子拒绝吃做好的饭菜时,结果往往不是家庭欢乐,而是冲突。

But when children refuse to eat the food that's been cooked, the result is often conflict rather than family fun.

Speaker 3

BBC广播四台的节目《食物链》采访了儿童营养专家、两个孩子的母亲夏洛特·斯特林·里德,问她孩子会不会吃她做的所有食物。

BBC Radio four programme The Food Chain asked child nutritionist and mother of two, Charlotte Sterling Reid, whether her kids eat everything she gives them.

Speaker 2

他们肯定不会。

They definitely don't.

Speaker 2

我们经历过好几次食欲起伏,有时候他们吃得很少,然后又突然恢复正常。

We go through multiple periods of up and downs where their appetite is much lower, and then all of a sudden it comes right back.

Speaker 2

这跟天气有关,也跟他们当天的活动有关。

It depends on the weather, what they've been doing that day.

Speaker 2

有时候还跟他们的心情有关。

It can depend on their mood.

Speaker 1

晚餐时间,夏洛特的孩子们会经历情绪起伏——意思是他们有时好有时坏。

At dinnertime, Charlotte's children go through ups and downs a phrase meaning that a mixture of good and bad things happen to them.

Speaker 1

有时候他们高高兴兴把饭全吃完,有时候却一口都不吃。

Sometimes they eat everything happily other times they don't.

Speaker 1

这取决于很多因素,比如他们当天的活动、天气和心情。

It depends on many things, including their day, the weather and their mood.

Speaker 1

人的心情,就是他们在某个时刻的感受状态。

A person's mood is the way they're feeling at a particular time.

Speaker 3

那父母该怎么让晚餐时间变得人人都喜欢呢?

So how can parents make dinnertime something everyone enjoys?

Speaker 3

在本期节目中,我们将听取三位专家关于幼儿饮食习惯的建议,还会学到一些实用的新词和表达。

In this episode, we'll be hearing from three experts on young children's eating habits and learning some useful new words and phrases too.

Speaker 3

别忘了,所有本期节目的词汇、测验和练习资料,都可以在我们的网站 bbclearningenglish.com 上找到。

And remember, you'll find all the vocabulary from this episode along with a quiz and worksheet on our website bbclearningenglish.com.

Speaker 1

不过首先,乔治,我有个问题想问你。

But first, of course, Georgie, I have a question for you.

Speaker 1

夏洛特·斯特林·里德是儿童营养专家,她有一些让家庭用餐更轻松的建议。

Charlotte Sterling Reid is a child nutritionist and she has some tips for stress free family meals.

Speaker 1

你觉得她会推荐下面哪一条呢?

Which of these do you think she recommends?

Speaker 1

是 a) 确保孩子每天吃五份水果和蔬菜,b) 别逼孩子把盘子里的东西全吃完,还是 c) 快速让孩子尝试很多新口味?

Is it a) make sure your child eats five pieces of fruit and veg a day b) don't pressure your child to eat everything on the plate or c) introduce your child to lots of new flavours quickly.

Speaker 3

这有点难。

That's quite hard.

Speaker 3

这些建议听起来都不错。

They all seem like quite good tips.

Speaker 3

我选 c),尽快让孩子多尝试新口味。

I'm going to go with c) introduce your child to lots of new flavours quickly.

Speaker 1

好的。

Okay.

Speaker 1

我们稍后在节目中揭晓答案。

We'll find out the answer later in the programme.

Speaker 1

安妮·菲舍尔医生是儿童营养领域的另一位专家。

Doctor Anne Fischel is another expert in child nutrition.

Speaker 1

她共同创立了‘家庭晚餐计划’,这是一家在美国推广儿童健康饮食的机构。

She co founded the Family Dinner Project, an organisation promoting children's healthy eating in The US.

Speaker 1

在这里,安妮向BBC世界服务节目《食物链》的露丝·亚历山大解释了为什么用餐时间可能会变得紧张。

Here, Anne explains one reason why mealtimes can become stressful to Ruth Alexander for BBC World Service programme, The Food Chain.

Speaker 4

许多家长说,晚餐时间常常变成一场拉锯战。

Many parents say dinnertime can become a battleground.

Speaker 4

那为什么吃的东西会引发这么多矛盾呢?

So why is it that what you're eating can trigger so much tension?

Speaker 5

我觉得对小孩子来说,这是他们为数不多能自己做主的领域之一。

I think for small children, it's one of the few areas that they have control over.

Speaker 5

父母可以决定做什么菜、什么时候上桌,但孩子才有权决定吃不吃。

I mean, parents can cook what they want and serve it when they want, but it's up to kids to decide whether they're gonna eat it.

Speaker 5

对年幼的孩子来说,这非常重要。

And for young kids, that's a big deal.

Speaker 5

他们至少还能掌控这一点。

They have some control.

Speaker 3

晚餐时间常常变成冲突的战场,因为这是孩子少数能自己做主的方面之一。

Dinnertime often becomes a battleground, a place where argument or conflict happens, and thinks that's because it's one of the few areas where children have control.

Speaker 3

对孩子来说,决定吃什么是一件很重要的事,他们特别在意这一点。

For kids, controlling what they're willing to eat is a big deal, something of special importance to them.

Speaker 1

如果夏洛特和安妮这样的专家都为吃饭问题头疼,那如果你的孩子有食物过敏——也就是吃了某些食物身体会生病——情况该有多难啊。

If experts like Charlotte and Anne struggle at mealtimes, imagine how hard it could be if your child has a food allergy a condition where the body makes you sick after eating certain foods.

Speaker 1

新加坡美食作家莎伦·韦的经历就是这样,她在这里接受了BBC世界服务节目《食物链》的采访。

That was the experience of Sharon Wee, a food writer from Singapore, who speaks here with BBC World Service programme, The Food Chain.

Speaker 6

我女儿一出生就有过敏问题,刚开始真的特别艰难。

My daughter was born with allergies, and it was quite a struggle at first.

Speaker 6

说实话,我们最后找到了一个万能方案,就是米饭和豆子。

And to be honest with you, we found the winning formula, which was rice and beans.

Speaker 6

她小时候前五年基本就吃米饭和豆子。

And she grew up eating rice and beans probably for the first five years of her life.

Speaker 3

莎伦女儿的过敏限制了她的饮食,让全家做饭变得很困难。

Sharon's daughter's allergies restricted what she could eat, making cooking for the whole family a struggle.

Speaker 3

幸运的是,莎伦找到了一个安全的解决方案——她女儿能吃的米饭和豆子。

Luckily, Sharon discovered the winning formula, something her daughter could safely eat rice and beans.

Speaker 3

所谓的成功秘诀,就是一种能带来好结果的方法或策略。

A winning formula is a method or strategy that produces successful results.

Speaker 1

所以,乔治亚,父母该怎么帮助孩子养成良好的饮食习惯呢?

So Georgie, how can parents help their children develop good eating habits?

Speaker 1

其实,我们的专家们在这一点上看法都很一致。

Well, there are some things that our experts all agree upon.

Speaker 1

比如,可以让孩子自己选,吃饭前先提供一些健康的小零食和蘸酱。

For one, give children a choice for example, by offering small, healthy snacks and dips before the meal.

Speaker 1

最重要的是,别逼孩子把盘子里的食物全吃完,要营造一个轻松无压力的用餐氛围。

And most importantly of all, create a stress free atmosphere by not pressurising kids to finish everything on their plate.

Speaker 3

没错。

Right.

Speaker 3

这其实也回答了尼尔你的那个问题。

Well, that also helps with your quiz question, Neil.

Speaker 3

那不如现在就公布正确答案吧。

So why not go ahead and reveal the correct answer.

Speaker 1

我刚才问你,儿童营养专家夏洛特·斯廷格尔·里德对营造轻松的家庭用餐氛围有什么建议。

I asked you what child nutritionist Charlotte Stirling Reid recommends for stress free family meals.

Speaker 3

对。

Yes.

Speaker 3

我说的是C选项:尽快让孩子尝试各种新口味。

I said c) introduce your child to lots of new flavours quickly.

Speaker 1

很遗憾,你答错了,乔治。

I'm afraid you were wrong, Georgie.

Speaker 1

正确答案其实是B:不要强迫孩子把盘子里的食物全吃完。

The answer is actually b) don't pressure your child to eat everything on the plate.

Speaker 1

明白了。

Okay.

Speaker 1

我们来回顾一下刚才学过的词汇,首先是‘ups and downs’,这个短语形容一个人生活中好坏交织的经历。

Let's recap the vocabulary we've learnt starting with ups and downs a phrase describing the mixture of good and bad things that happen to someone.

Speaker 3

你的情绪就是你在某个时刻的感受。

Your mood is how you feel at a particular time.

Speaker 1

战场指的是发生争论或冲突的地方或情况。

A battleground is a place or situation where argument or conflict happens.

Speaker 3

如果某件事对你来说很重要,那就是一件大事。

If something is a big deal, it's of special importance to you.

Speaker 1

食物过敏是一种医学状况,指某些食物会让你身体不适。

A food allergy is a medical condition where certain foods make your body sick.

Speaker 3

最后,制胜秘诀就是能带来成功结果的方法或策略。

And finally, a winning formula is a method or strategy that produces successful results.

Speaker 3

好了,我们这六分钟又到了。

Once again, our six minutes are up.
