Speaker 2

大家好。

Hello.

Speaker 2

这里是BBC Learning English的《六分钟英语》。

This is six Minute English from BBC Learning English.

Speaker 2

我是尼尔。

I'm Neil.

Speaker 0

我是皮帕。

And I'm Pippa.

Speaker 0

说到家务活,像打扫、洗衣服或者带孩子这类事情,通常都是女性承担得更多。

When it comes to household chores, jobs like cleaning, washing clothes or looking after the kids, it's often women who do most of the work.

Speaker 0

下面请听两位BBC World节目《世界人民大团结》的女听众分享她们的亲身经历。

Here, two female listeners of BBC World's service programme People Fixing the World share their experiences.

Speaker 0

这些听起来是不是很耳熟?

Do they sound familiar to you?

Speaker 3

我什么都做。

I do everything.

Speaker 3

家里的家务活都是我包了。

I do all the house chores.

Speaker 3

买菜做饭也是我负责。

I do the food shopping.

Speaker 3

所有的饭都是我来做。

I do all the cooking.

Speaker 3

浴室也是我打扫的。

I clean the bathroom.

Speaker 4

我和我老公的家务活是平均分配的吗?

Are the chores done equally between me and my husband?

Speaker 4

不是。

No.

Speaker 4

并不是那么平均的。

They're not done equally.

Speaker 4

大部分家务都是我做。

I do most of the chores.

Speaker 0

看来你是个顾家的男人,尼尔。

So you're a family man, Neil.

Speaker 0

你有没有公平分担家务活?

Do you do your fair share of household chores?

Speaker 2

我觉得是。

I think so.

Speaker 2

我妻子做兼职,我做全职。

My wife works part time and I work full time.

Speaker 2

所以我不工作的时候我做家务,她不工作的时候她做家务。

So when I'm not working, I do things and when she's not working, she does things.

Speaker 0

对。

Yeah.

Speaker 0

我家也差不多。

It's similar in my house.

Speaker 0

所以我和我丈夫尽量分担家务。

So me and my husband try to split things.

Speaker 0

但这很难,不是吗?

But it's difficult, isn't it?

Speaker 2

确实。

It is.

Speaker 0

当然,没人喜欢刷马桶或倒垃圾,但这个问题也有严肃的一面。

Of course, no one enjoys cleaning the toilet or taking out the bins, but there is a serious side to the issue.

Speaker 0

联合国妇女署的数据显示,全球女性每天花在无偿照护和家务上的时间比男性多出三个小时。

Figures from UN Women, an organisation promoting gender equality, suggest that every day, women around the world spend three hours more than men on unpaid care and domestic work.

Speaker 0

所以在这一集里,我们会听到两个帮助夫妻更公平分担家务的项目故事。

So in this episode, we'll be hearing about two projects helping husbands and wives share the housework more fairly.

Speaker 2

和往常一样,你可以在我们的网站bbclearningenglish.com上找到与本集配套的测验和练习材料。

And as usual, you'll find a quiz and a worksheet to go with this episode on our website bbclearningenglish.com.

Speaker 2

但皮帕,现在我要给你提个问题。

But now I have a question for you, Pippa.

Speaker 2

根据《好管家》杂志今年早些时候的一项调查,英国最让人讨厌的家务是什么?

According to a survey conducted by Good Housekeeping magazine earlier this year, what is the most hated household chore in Britain?

Speaker 2

是深度清洁烤箱、刷马桶,还是擦窗户?

Is it a) deep cleaning the oven b) scrubbing the toilet or c) cleaning the windows?

Speaker 0

我猜是深度清洁烤箱,因为我真的特别讨厌那个活儿。

I'm going to say deep cleaning the oven because I really hate that job.

Speaker 0

我几乎从来不做这个。

I hardly ever do it.

Speaker 2

这些我都不喜欢,不过我们会在节目最后揭晓答案。

I don't like any of those, but we'll find out the answer at the end of the programme.

Speaker 2

现在,我们要看的第一个项目是在印度尼西亚偏远的罗特岛上。

Now, the first project we're going to look at is on the remote Indonesian island of Rote.

Speaker 2

在那里,男性传统上从事稻农或渔民的工作,而女性则负责照顾家庭、孩子和老人。

Here, men traditionally work as rice farmers or fishermen while women look after the home, the children and older people.

Speaker 2

但由于洗衣机很少,也没有自来水,这些家务活要花很长时间。

But with few washing machines and no running water, these domestic chores take a long time.

Speaker 0

非政府组织Arundjee开展了一个项目,试图改变人们对岛上女性角色的看法。

The NGO Arundjee runs a project trying to change attitudes about the role of the island's women.

Speaker 0

他们与像Mama Schilpa这样的社区领袖合作,她接受了BBC世界服务记者Adeh Madiati的采访。

They work alongside community leaders like Mama Schilpa who spoke with BBC World Service reporter Adeh Madiati.

Speaker 5

人们期望像抱孩子、喂孩子、洗碗、做饭这些家务活,都应由母亲来完成。

It is expected that the tasks done in the house, like holding the child, feeding the child, washing dishes, cooking, will all be done by the mother.

Speaker 1

西尔帕告诉我,这些都被认为是女人的活儿。

Silpa tells me these are all considered women's work.

Speaker 1

你可能会想,男人在田里忙,所以这只是公平的分工。

And you might be thinking, well, the man is busy in the fields, so it's just a fair division of labour.

Speaker 1

但西尔帕告诉我,女人也会去田里帮忙。

But Silpa tells me women also help out in the fields.

Speaker 2

在罗特岛,打扫、做饭、扫地被认为是女人的活儿,这个词带有贬义,指的是那些传统上由女性做的无聊又重复的工作。

On rotate, cleaning, cooking and sweeping are considered women's work, a negative term for boring and repetitive tasks which are traditionally done by women.

Speaker 0

很多文化都有分工,这是一种组织工作的方式,不同的任务由不同的人群来完成。

Many cultures have a division of labour a way of organising work where different tasks are done by different groups of people.

Speaker 0

但在罗特岛,这意味着女性还要帮忙干农活和捕鱼,工作更辛苦了。

But on Rotter, this means women work even harder helping out with the farming and fishing too.

Speaker 2

你可能会觉得这只会发生在传统社会,但研究表明,在富裕国家,女性花在无偿照料工作上的时间也比男性多得多。

You might think this only happens in traditional societies, but research suggests that women in wealthy countries also spend much more time on unpaid care work than men.

Speaker 2

克罗地亚就是这样一个国家,那里的非政府组织Status M开展了他们的“超级爸爸”项目。

One such country is Croatia, where the NGO Status M run their Super Dads Project.

Speaker 2

项目工作人员安娜·玛丽亚·索乔举办工作坊,鼓励爸爸和儿子们分担一些妈妈的压力。

Project worker Anna Maria Socho leads workshops encouraging dads and sons to take some of the pressure off mums.

Speaker 2

在这里,她向BBC世界服务解释了这样做的好处。

Here, she explains the benefits of this to the BBC World Service.

Speaker 6

妈妈们当然会有更多空间去发展事业、培养爱好,或者就是单纯地休息一下,喘口气。

Mothers have, you know, of course, more space for their careers, for hobbies or just simply to rest, mean, to take a breather.

Speaker 6

女性尤其欣赏那些愿意做这些家务的男人。

Women tend to especially appreciate men who do these kinds of chores.

Speaker 6

当男人们开始分担责任时,女人们会开玩笑说,是的,她们会少唠叨一些。

And when they start pulling their weight, they jokingly say that, yeah, women tend to neck less.

Speaker 0

有时候妈妈们需要喘口气,这是一种非正式的说法,意思是停下来休息一会儿。

Sometimes mums need to take a breather an informal way of saying stop and rest a while.

Speaker 2

安娜·玛丽亚还认为,当丈夫们尽自己的一份力时,妻子们会很感激。

Anna Maria also thinks women appreciate it when their husbands pull their weight.

Speaker 2

如果你尽自己的一份力,意思是你和其他人一样努力工作。

If you pull your weight, you work as hard as everyone else.

Speaker 0

这两个非政府组织项目都同意一点:男人多帮忙做家务,家庭会更幸福,哪怕偶尔要刷刷马桶也没关系。

Both these NGO projects agree about one thing men doing more to help around the house results in happier homes, even if that means cleaning the toilet now and then.

Speaker 0

说到刷马桶,Neil,你之前提的那个小测验问题答案是什么来着?

And speaking of cleaning the toilet, what was the answer to your quiz question, Neil?

Speaker 2

我问的是,在英国最令人讨厌的家务是什么?

I asked you what chore is the most hated in Britain?

Speaker 0

我还以为是清理烤箱呢。

I thought it was cleaning the oven.

Speaker 2

恐怕这不对呀。

Well, I'm afraid that's not the right answer.

Speaker 2

比起擦洗烤箱,大家更讨厌擦窗户。

People hate cleaning the windows even more than scrubbing the oven.

Speaker 2

根据调查,有23%的受访者认为是擦窗户。

Apparently 23% of the people who did the survey said cleaning the windows.

Speaker 2

好吧。

Okay.

Speaker 2

我们回顾一下学到的词汇,从家务活开始,比如打扫、洗衣和熨烫这些需要定期做的事情。

Let's recap the vocabulary we've learnt starting with chores household tasks like cleaning, washing and ironing that have to be done regularly.

Speaker 0

如果你公平地分担工作,你就做了合理的一部分。

If you do your fair share of work, you do a reasonable amount.

Speaker 2

“女人活”是个贬义词,指那些又无聊又重复、按刻板印象由女性承担的家务。

Women's work is a negative term for the boring and repetitive tasks which are stereotypically done by women.

Speaker 0

劳动分工是一种组织工作的方式,让不同的人去完成不同的任务。

The division of labour is a way of organising work where different tasks are done by different groups of people.

Speaker 2

习语“take a breather”的意思是暂时停下手中的活,歇口气。

The idiom take a breather means to stop what you're doing for a short time and rest.

Speaker 0

最后,如果你尽了自己的本分,你就会像做同样工作的其他人一样卖力。

And finally, if you pull your weight, you work as hard as everyone else doing the same job.

Speaker 0

咱们的六分钟时间又到了。

Once again, our six minutes are up.

Speaker 0

但是记住,我们网站 bbclearningenglish.com 上有免费的文本和全部词汇。
