嘿,皮特。

Hey, Pete.

Speaker 0

欢迎收听《全神贯注英语》。

Welcome to All Ears English.

Speaker 0

你好吗?

How are you?

Speaker 2

你好,林赛,最近怎么样?

G'day, Lindsay, what's going on?

Speaker 2

我挺好的。

I'm good.

Speaker 2

你呢,你过得怎么样?

How are you going?

Speaker 0

哦,我很高兴你能来。

Oh, I'm excited to have you here.

Speaker 0

我很好,而且我们很欢迎澳大利亚英语的声音加入这个节目。

I'm doing great, and we love having an Australian English voice on the show.

Speaker 0

我们很少能请到澳洲人来节目,所以欢迎你。

It's rare that we get to have an Aussie on the show, so welcome.

Speaker 2

哦,谢谢。

Oh, thank you.

Speaker 2

我是第一个吗?

Am I the first?

Speaker 2

还是你们已经请过不少了?

Or have you had quite a few?

Speaker 0

不,我们已经请过几位澳洲人了。

No, we've had a couple of other Australians on the show.

Speaker 0

但告诉我,你来自澳大利亚哪里,Pete?

But tell me, where in Australia are you from, Pete?

Speaker 2

我住在一个叫Ocean Grove的小镇,离墨尔本大概一个半小时车程,在南部。

So, I live in a little town called Ocean Grove, which is probably about an hour and a half south of Melbourne.

Speaker 0

好的。

Okay.

Speaker 2

我不知道你们对澳大利亚的地理了解多少,但澳大利亚有七个州和领地。

So, I don't know if you guys know much about the geography of Australia, but there is about seven states and territories.

Speaker 2

维多利亚州就在东南角。

Victoria's right in the southeast.

Speaker 2

墨尔本是维多利亚州的首府,我们这边有个大海湾叫菲利普港湾。

Melbourne's the capital of Victoria, and we've got this big bay called Port Phillip Bay.

Speaker 2

而在港湾的最南端,靠近出海口的地方,就是我住的小镇——海洋格罗夫。

And at the very bottom of that, right near the mouth opening, is my little town called Ocean Grove.

Speaker 0

哦,那太棒了。

Oh, that's awesome.

Speaker 0

我没去过澳大利亚,但我真的很想去那里待一段时间,我就是觉得你们那儿的人好像更放松一些……

I've never been to Australia, but I would love to spend some time there and just because I feel like you guys have a more relaxed kind of...

Speaker 0

那只是刻板印象,还是说澳大利亚的生活确实挺轻松的?

Is that just a stereotype or is life actually pretty relaxed in Australia?

Speaker 2

那要看你想了解多深了。

Depends how deep you want to go.

Speaker 2

但我觉得从文化上来说,一般澳大利亚人确实比较放松,这也跟我们的历史有关,毕竟最初是英国流放犯人的地方。

But I think the average Australian culture wise, I definitely feel we're laid back, and it sort of ties in with our history with Britain, and being founded on convicts.

Speaker 2

而且很明显我们当时属于下层阶级,不是上层阶级。

And the fact that we obviously were lower class, we weren't the upper class.

Speaker 2

所以我们在澳大利亚挺排斥阶级差异的。

And so we kind of reject class differences in Australia.

Speaker 2

所以这里非常不拘礼节,我经常跟我的学生和听众说,如果我明天见到总理,他大概会叫我“兄弟”。

So, it's very informal, and I'm always telling my students and listeners, if I was to meet the prime minister tomorrow, he would probably call me mate.

Speaker 2

“嘿,哥们。

You know, "G'day, mate.

Speaker 2

最近怎么样?”

How's it going?"

Speaker 2

而我大概也会直接叫他的名字。

And I would probably use his first name.

Speaker 2

我不会叫他——

I wouldn't call him-

Speaker 2

……莫里森总理。

... Prime Minister Morrison.

Speaker 2

我大概会说,"嘿,斯科特,最近怎么样?"

I'd be like, "What's up, Scott?

Speaker 2

"过得还好吗?"

How's it going?"

Speaker 0

哇哦。

Oh, wow.

Speaker 2

而我知道在美国,尤其是英国,情况会-

Whereas I know in America, or especially in Britain, it would be-

Speaker 0

尤其是在英国

Especially in Britain

Speaker 2

...更加-

... a lot more-

Speaker 2

...更有礼貌,对吧?

... polite, right?

Speaker 0

我很喜欢这一点。

I love that.

Speaker 0

就个人而言,我一直更喜欢澳洲口音,而不是英式口音,但这只是我个人的偏好。

Personally, I've always preferred the Aussie accent over the British accent, but that's just my bias.

Speaker 0

我觉得很多人都有自己的偏好,这是肯定的。

I think a lot of people have their preferences, for sure.

Speaker 2

为什么?

Why is that?

Speaker 2

你喜欢澳洲口音的哪些特点?

What aspect of the Aussie accent do you really enjoy?

Speaker 0

我就是觉得它听起来更酷。

I just think it sounds cooler.

Speaker 0

就像你刚才说的,那种更放松的态度,你可以从口音中感受到。

Just as you were saying, the more relaxed attitude, you can kind of feel it in the accent.

Speaker 0

而且,各位,我会注意听这个。

And guys, I listen for this.

Speaker 0

你们应该听听看,比较一下澳大利亚口音和英国口音,开始注意它们的区别。

You guys should be listening and comparing the Australian accent with the British accent and starting to notice the differences.

Speaker 0

因为,皮特,我们节目里的听众,都是中级到高级学习者,对吧?

Because, Pete, our listeners here on the show, they are upper intermediate to advanced learners, right?

Speaker 0

所以,他们可以开始区分这两种口音了。

So, they can start to distinguish between the two accents.

Speaker 2

这真是个头疼的问题,对吧?

And it's a nightmare, right?

Speaker 2

学习所有这些不同的口音,尤其是当……

Learning all these different accents, especially when-

Speaker 0

是的

Yes

Speaker 2

……这就是为什么请来自世界各地的嘉宾上节目是件好事。

... and this is why it's good to get guests on from all over the world-

Speaker 0

完全正确

Exactly

Speaker 2

……带着不同口音的。

... with different accents.

Speaker 2

因为我——

Because I-

Speaker 0

没错

Exactly

Speaker 2

……

...

Speaker 2

我经常有学生问:“我怎么才能听懂苏格兰人说话?”

I have students all the time being like, "How do I learn to understand Scottish people?"

Speaker 2

我就说:“你得多听他们说话。”

I'm like, "You just have to listen to them."

Speaker 2

其实就是花时间练习,对吧?

It's just time spent on task, right?

Speaker 0

尤其是苏格兰口音。

Especially the Scottish accent.

Speaker 0

所以这就是我们今天在这里的原因。

Well, that's why we're here today then.

Speaker 0

所以我今天很高兴你能来。

That's why I'm excited that you're here today.

Speaker 0

那么,皮特,今天我们要讲几个词,三四个或者五个在澳大利亚用法不同的词。

So, Pete, today we're going to go into a couple of terms, three or four or five different terms that are used in Australia-

Speaker 0

这些词在澳大利亚英语里和在美国英语里完全不一样。

... in a totally different way that they are in American English.

Speaker 0

我们来说说——

Let's talk about-

Speaker 2

其实有不少呢。

So, there's quite a few.

Speaker 0

我们准备了一些。

We've got a couple of them.

Speaker 0

我们看时间够不够,不过第一个要跟听众们分享的是什么呢?

We'll see what we have time for, but what would be the first one for our listeners?

Speaker 2

当然。

Definitely.

Speaker 0

所以这对我们的听众来说非常重要,如果他们住过美国也住过澳大利亚,他们需要知道这些差异,对吧?

So, it's so important for our listeners, maybe if they have lived in the US and they've lived in Australia, they need to know these differences, right?

Speaker 0

如果他们去旅行的话。

If they're traveling.

Speaker 2

是的,肯定。

Yeah, for sure.

Speaker 2

而且我觉得,也不要怕犯这种错误,因为我觉得就像跟……

And I think, too, don't be afraid of making these sorts of mistakes, because I think like with-

Speaker 2

美国人和澳大利亚人……

... Americans and Australians-

Speaker 2

当我们提到这些问题的时候,下一个词是“thong”,如果我说……

... when we make these issues, the next one's thong, and if I were to say-

Speaker 2

“哦,我找不到我的夹脚拖鞋了”……

... "Oh, I can't find my thongs"-

Speaker 2

你们听了估计会乐呵一下,然后我就会说——

... you guys would probably have a giggle, and I'd be like-

Speaker 0

对

Yes

Speaker 2

“什么?”

... "What?"

Speaker 0

对。

Yes.

Speaker 0

所以,在美式英语里,thong 是女性穿的一种内裤。

So, in American English, thong is a type of underwear that a woman would wear.

Speaker 2

是的。

Yep.

Speaker 0

那在澳式英语里它是什么意思?

And what is it in Australian English?

Speaker 2

我想你们会把它叫作人字拖,对吧?

I guess you guys would call it flip-flops, right?

Speaker 0

对。

Yes.

Speaker 0

没错。

That's right.

Speaker 0

好的。

Okay.

Speaker 0

那个说法我听过。

So, that one I've heard.

Speaker 0

所以差别挺大的。

So, very different.

Speaker 2

这通常是最广为人知的那种刻板印象。

That tends to be the stereotype one that everyone gets.

Speaker 2

但我不太明白,美式英语里为什么叫thong?

But I don't know, why is it called a thong in US English?

Speaker 2

你知道吗?

Do you know?

Speaker 0

我不知道。

I don't know.

Speaker 0

说实话,我真没怎么想过这个问题。

I haven't thought about it a lot, to be honest.

Speaker 2

嗯,我一直在想,在澳大利亚英语里,为什么我们用那个词来指人字拖呢?

Well, and I keep thinking in Australian English, why do we use that for the flip-flops?

Speaker 2

但可能是因为你脚上那块塑料的形状之类的。

But maybe it's because of the shape of the plastic that goes over your foot or something.

Speaker 2

也许就是从那来的。

Like, maybe it's originally from that.

Speaker 2

我也不太清楚。

I have no idea.

Speaker 0

可能来自同一个根源、同一个想法,只不过在不同国家有了不同的表现。

It could be from the same root, the same idea, and then it just kind of manifested differently in the different countries.

Speaker 0

我猜是这样。

I guess.

Speaker 0

好的。

Okay.

Speaker 0

那接下来是什么?

Well, what's the next one then?

Speaker 0

说到仙人掌。

So, cactus.

Speaker 0

在美式英语里,这就是一种植物,我猜是植物,长着往外伸的刺,扎人很疼,特别是在沙漠里,比如亚利桑那或西部那些地方。

So, in American English, this is just a type of plant or tree, I guess it's a plant, that has needles that kind of stick out and really get us, especially in the deserts, like in Arizona or the West.

Speaker 0

在澳式英语里怎么说?

What is this in Australian English?

Speaker 0

这是……

Is this-

Speaker 2

那些植物我们当然还是叫仙人掌,但如果某样东西是'cactus',在这里它就是个形容词,意思是坏了、废了、不工作了。

So, we would obviously still use it for those plants, but if something is cactus, I guess it's used as an adjective here, it's dead, it's broken, it's not functioning.

Speaker 0

明白。

Okay.

Speaker 2

所以,如果我打不开电脑,我可能会说:‘啊,糟了……’Bug 也是另一个说法。

So, if I couldn't turn my computer on, I might be like, "Ah, bugger..." Bug is another one.

Speaker 2

‘哦,糟了,它完蛋了。’

"Oh, bugger, it's cactus."

Speaker 2

就是坏了、报废了。

It's broken, it's busted.

Speaker 0

哦。

Oh.

Speaker 2

我得修一下。

I need to fix it.

Speaker 2

或者如果我的车抛锚了,我会说:‘啊,它完蛋了。’

Or if my car broke down, I'd be like, "Ah, she's cactus."

Speaker 2

它不行了。

It's had it.

Speaker 2

它坏了。

It's broken.

Speaker 0

好的。

Okay.

Speaker 2

我得去修一下。

I need a repair.

Speaker 2

它坏了。

It's cactus.

Speaker 0

好的。

Okay.

Speaker 0

那这个词常用吗?

And is this a common word?

Speaker 0

这在澳大利亚是不是一个学生经常问你的词,还是说这是个比较偏的……

I mean, is this something that your students would ask you about a lot in Australia, or is this kind of a remote...

Speaker 0

嘿,朋友们,我是奥布里。

Hey, guys, it's Aubrey.

Speaker 0

你是否曾在会议上有个好点子,却因为不知道怎么表达而保持沉默,不是因为你不知道答案,而是因为你不确定怎么说?

Have you ever sat in a meeting, had a great point, and stayed quiet, not because you didn't know the answer, because you weren't sure how to say it?

Speaker 0

这正是商务英语课程要解决的问题。

That's exactly what the Business English course is for.

Speaker 0

你会学到闲聊、开会、写邮件和做演示所需的语言。

You'll learn the language for small talk, meetings, emails, and presentations.

Speaker 0

然后,每周在开放对话俱乐部里和真人练习口语,提升流利度。

Speaker 0

本周报名,最高可省100美元,而且我们还有30天退款保证。

This week, you can save up to $100, plus we have a 30-day money back guarantee.

Speaker 0

优惠截止到纽约时间周日午夜。

The offer ends Sunday at midnight, New York time.

Speaker 0

前往allersenglish.com/business。

Go to allersenglish.com/business.

Speaker 0

就是allersenglish.com/business。

That's allersenglish.com/business.

Speaker 2

我经常听到这个说法。

I hear this quite a bit.

Speaker 2

它不是每天都用。

I mean, it's not used every single day.

Speaker 2

可能不像内衣那种词那么常见,但是——

It's probably not as common as something like thongs, but-

Speaker 2

……但在澳大利亚确实用得挺多的。

... it's definitely used quite a lot in Australia.

Speaker 2

所以,我觉得这是澳大利亚特有的一种现象,这对你们和听众朋友们来说挺有意思的。我们大概有5000个指小词和俚语,用来指代不同的东西——

So, I think it's one of those things that Australia has, this is something interesting for you guys and you listeners, we have something like 5,000 diminutive words, slang terms for different things-

Speaker 2

……在澳大利亚。

... in Australia.

Speaker 0

哇。

Wow.

Speaker 2

而据我所知,加拿大只有1000个。

Whereas I know Canada has only 1,000.

Speaker 0

哇。

Wow.

Speaker 2

所以,相比之下,对于一个规模相近、历史相似的国家来说。

So, in comparison, for a similar sized country with a similar history.

Speaker 0

哦。

Oh.

Speaker 2

所以,我们特别热衷用俚语。

So, we go crazy with slang.

Speaker 2

所以,用好俚语真的很重要,因为这样会让我们觉得你融入了我们的文化。

So, it's always really good to use because we feel you're a part of our culture.

Speaker 2

你在享受我们的文化。

You're enjoying our culture.

Speaker 2

你想更了解它,而且你也很合群。

You want to learn more about it, and you fit in.

Speaker 2

所以,千万别不好意思用俚语。

So, definitely don't shy away from using slang terms.

Speaker 0

哦,当然。

Oh, for sure.

Speaker 0

这真是太好了——我们在这个节目里经常谈连接,而不是完美,对吧?

This is such a good-- We talk a lot on this show about connection, not perfection, right?

Speaker 0

有哪些事情是……

What are the things that-

Speaker 2

对,没错。

Yeah, for sure.

Speaker 0

有哪些简单的事情,听众们随时都能做,去找到那种连接,这就是其中之一。

What are those simple things that our listeners can do in any moment to find that connection, and this is one of them.

Speaker 0

所以,各位,如果你们在澳大利亚,我们不妨再试一两个。

So, guys, if you're in Australia, why don't we try one, maybe two more.

Speaker 0

你们觉得怎么样?

What do you think?

Speaker 0

所以……

So-

Speaker 2

好,来吧。

Yeah, go for it.

Speaker 0

好的。

All right.

Speaker 0

那么,比如说你——

So, say if you-

Speaker 2

下一个有点难搞。

The next one's chewy.

Speaker 2

加油,你可以的。

Come on, you got this.

Speaker 0

好的。

Okay.

Speaker 0

嗯,如果某件事——

Well, so if something's-

Speaker 2

把这个戴上。

Put that on

Speaker 0

有嚼劲的东西,就是我要嚼它。

... chewy, it's just something that I am going to chew it.

Speaker 0

就像焦糖糖一样黏在我的嘴里。

It's just like it sticks in my mouth like a caramel candy.

Speaker 2

差不多就是这样。

That's pretty close.

Speaker 2

口香糖。

Chewing gum.

Speaker 0

天哪。

Oh, my gosh.

Speaker 0

好的。

Okay.

Speaker 0

有意思。

Interesting.

Speaker 0

好的,那很好。

Okay, that's great.

Speaker 2

所以,我们就是在口香糖这个词后面加了个E。

So, we just put E on the end of the word chewing gum.

Speaker 2

嚼劲。

Chewy.

Speaker 2

所以,不是像楚巴卡那种,不是像那种……有嚼劲就是有嚼劲,但就是这样。

So, not like Chewbacca, not like something that is... Chewy is chewy, but yeah.

Speaker 0

嚼——

Chew-

Speaker 2

这就是有嚼劲的意思。

That's what chewy is.

Speaker 0

哦,有意思。

Ah, interesting.

Speaker 0

所以,有趣的是,当我们——在美式英语里,当我们加上I-E之后,听起来就像小孩子说的话,对吧?

So, it's funny because when we-- So, in American English, when we add the I-E after things, it sounds like something a kid would say, right?

Speaker 0

确实有点。

A little bit.

Speaker 0

所以,我觉得挺有意思的。

So, that's interesting to me.

Speaker 2

你们把我们的词“自拍”给用火了。

Well, you guys flogged our word, selfie.

Speaker 2

那是我们的词。

That's ours.

Speaker 2

我们发明的这个词,然后你们用得可起劲了。

We came up with that, and you guys use that like crazy.

Speaker 0

好像是这么回事。

That sounds about right.

Speaker 0

我觉得全世界都在用这个词。

I think the whole world uses that.

Speaker 0

这个词是你们发明的吗?

Did you guys come up with that?

Speaker 0

我还真不知道——

I didn't know-

Speaker 2

我觉得是。

I believe so

Speaker 0

……因为你们对这词有商标权。

... because you guys had a trademark on that.

Speaker 2

商标什么的我不太清楚。

I don't know about trademark.

Speaker 2

你们尽管用。

You guys can use it.

Speaker 2

不收钱,免费。

No charge, free of charge.

Speaker 0

好的。

All right.

Speaker 0

要不要再给听众们来一个?

Why don't we try one more for our listeners?

Speaker 2

好。

All right.

Speaker 2

来吧。

Go for it.

Speaker 0

这里你最喜欢哪一个?

Which one is your favorite here?

Speaker 0

对,你觉得呢?

Yeah, what do you think?

Speaker 2

好的。

All right.

Speaker 2

如果我问你:“你想喝点茶吗?”

If I said to you, "Do you want to have some tea?"

Speaker 0

好的。

Okay.

Speaker 2

或者,“你想过来喝杯茶吗?”

Or, "Do you want to come over for tea?"

Speaker 2

你觉得我会是在问什么?

What do you think I'd be asking?

Speaker 0

我会以为你就是在邀请我去你家喝茶。

I would assume you're literally asking to come over and have tea.

Speaker 0

我这个人就是很字面意思。

I'm a very literal person here.

Speaker 2

就是说喝的那个茶,对吧?

As in the drink, right?

Speaker 0

是的。

Yes.

Speaker 0

那在澳大利亚英语里你是在问什么?

What are you asking in Australian English?

Speaker 2

也有可能就是那样。

It could totally be that.

Speaker 2

如果你真是个爱喝茶的人,而且是在早上什么的,那可能就是那个意思。

And if you were really an avid tea drinker, and it was the morning or something, it might be that.

Speaker 2

但一般来说,我们用茶来指晚餐。

But generally, we use tea to mean dinner.

Speaker 0

哦。

Oh.

Speaker 2

所以,你是想过来吃饭吗?

So, did you want to come over for tea?

Speaker 2

那就相当于“你想过来吃晚饭吗?”

That'd be like, "Did you want to come over for dinner?"

Speaker 0

有意思。

Interesting.

Speaker 2

你是想过来喝茶吗?

Did you want to come over and have tea?

Speaker 2

你是想过来吃晚饭吗?

Did you want to come over and have dinner?

Speaker 0

好的。

Okay.

Speaker 0

真有意思。

Fascinating.

Speaker 0

澳大利亚有没有像英国那样的茶文化?

Is there a tea culture in Australia in the same way that there is in England?

Speaker 0

有。

Yes.

Speaker 2

但不太一样。

It's different.

Speaker 2

我们喝的那种,我想大概是红茶,或者早餐茶之类的。

We have, I guess it's kind of like black tea, I guess, or breakfast tea.

Speaker 2

有点像英式早餐茶。

It's kind of like English breakfast tea.

Speaker 2

那种是最受欢迎的。

That's the popular stuff.

Speaker 2

现在也有很多人在喝绿茶,不过我的祖父母那一辈绝对是喝很多茶的。

There's a lot of green tea that's drunk today, but definitely my grandparents grew up drinking a lot of tea.

Speaker 2

所以……

So, it's-

Speaker 0

哦,有意思。

Oh, interesting

Speaker 2

……

...

Speaker 2

我觉得这是英国文化的一部分吧。

I think it's on the end of that British culture.

Speaker 2

我们多少也继承了一些。

We copped a little bit of it.

Speaker 2

但我们也很爱喝咖啡。

But we also love our coffee.

Speaker 2

所以……

So...

Speaker 0

哦,对。

Oh, yeah.

Speaker 0

挺好的。

Good.

Speaker 0

我也很喜欢咖啡。

I love coffee, too.

Speaker 0

I'm so glad we had a chance to go into these words.

那么,我们的听众如果想看看你在网上做什么,该去哪里找你的播客或节目呢?

So, where can our listeners find your podcast or your show if they want to see what you're doing online?

Speaker 2

嗯,我确定他们找你的方式一样,就是在那播客应用里搜 The Aussie English Podcast,或者直接访问 aussieenglish.com.au。

Well, I'm sure the same way they find yours, just search any of those podcast apps for The Aussie English Podcast, or just go to aussieenglish.com.au.
