Speaker 0

你认识的人里,还有谁像我这么泼辣吗?

Do you know anyone who's sassy besides me?

Speaker 0

我确实挺泼辣的。

I'm definitely sassy.

Speaker 1

Aubrey,在工作上我倒没怎么觉得你有这面。

I don't really see the sassy side of you as much at work, Aubrey.

Speaker 0

说得对。

That's true.

Speaker 0

我在工作上不泼辣。

I'm not sassy at work.

Speaker 1

是的。

Yeah.

Speaker 1

对。

Yeah.

Speaker 1

是的。

Yeah.

Speaker 1

我确实有几个男性朋友,有时候还挺泼辣的。

Actually have some guy friends that can be a little sassy at times.

Speaker 0

没错。

Definitely.

Speaker 0

我最喜欢的Peloton教练其实特别泼辣。

My favorite Peloton instructor is kind of is very sassy actually.

Speaker 0

科迪·里格斯比。

Cody Rigsby.

Speaker 0

对。

Yes.

Speaker 0

不过呢,如果需要的话,我的幽默感确实有时候挺泼辣的。

But yeah, I if I need to be and sometimes my humor is a little bit sassy for sure.

Speaker 1

太喜欢了。

Love that.

Speaker 1

我的意思是,这给生活添了点趣味,对吧?

I mean, it puts a little spice into life, right?

Speaker 1

如果你性格本来就这样,那干脆就大方地做自己好了。

It just makes And things if it's part of your personality, you probably own it fully.

Speaker 0

没错,当然。

Definitely, yes.

Speaker 0

我们最近收到一个很棒的问题。

And we got a great question this.

Speaker 0

其实,我们的听众也问过好几次类似的问题。

We've also, I've had a few questions about this in our community from our listeners.

Speaker 0

特别感谢Caio。

Shout out to Caio.

Speaker 0

我 definitely记得自己也问过这个问题,因为我们有‘Sassy Saturday’的节目。

I remember asking about this for sure, because we have Sassy Saturday episodes.

Speaker 0

所以总有学员问我,这到底是什么意思?

And so I've had students ask like, what does that mean?

Speaker 0

或者他们去查了,然后又冒出一堆问题。

Or they'll look it up and then have questions.

Speaker 0

对吧?

Right?

Speaker 1

这个词有点

It's kind

Speaker 0

奇怪,而且在英语里还带点性别色彩。

of a strange word and it is sort of gendered in English.

Speaker 1

确实有点性别倾向。

It's a little gendered.

Speaker 1

挺有意思的。

It's fun.

Speaker 1

不过这个具体问题,是来自YouTube的听众提问。

So the listener question comes in from YouTube, though, this particular question.

Speaker 1

我直接念出来可以吗,奥布里?

And I'll shall I just read the question, Aubrey?

Speaker 1

当然。

Absolutely.

Speaker 1

好的。

Okay.

Speaker 1

听众来自Gagi Kantan Yeon,他问:

So listener says, this is from Gagi Kantan Yeon.

Speaker 1

对。

Mhmm.

Speaker 1

嗨,超级播客的各位女士们。

Hi, super ladies of super podcast.

Speaker 1

‘sassy’这个词,男人能用吗?还是只限于女性?

Is the word sassy, can it be used by men or is it only for women?

Speaker 1

哇。

Wow.

Speaker 0

是的。

Yes.

Speaker 0

我在准备这期节目、寻找未来选题的时候,又看到一个来自贾恩卢卡·玛丽亚·莱奇的问题,他说:‘聊得真棒。’

And then while I was preparing this episode and looking for future ideas, saw another question from from Gianluca Maria Leci and they said, great chat.

Speaker 0

形容衣服的时候,‘sassy’能当‘fancy’用吗?

Can sassy be a synonym of fancy when talking about clothes?

Speaker 0

我们经常收到关于‘sassy’这个词的问题。

So we get a lot of questions about this word sassy.

Speaker 0

今天我们就来好好聊聊,让各位听众都清楚该怎么用,因为不是谁都能随便被叫‘sassy’的。

We are going to dive into it today so that out there listening, everyone knows how to use it because it could You be wouldn't necessarily want to call just anyone sassy.

Speaker 0

这词搞不好会变成骂人的话。

Could be an insult.

Speaker 0

有些人听了可能会不高兴。

Some people could be offended.

Speaker 0

这个词其实挺微妙的。

It's a bit of a tricky word.

Speaker 1

这个词其实挺微妙的。

It's a bit of a tricky word.

Speaker 1

我还想起那本叫《Sassy》的杂志,你记得吗,就是九几年那会儿的?

And I think about the Sassy magazine that came out, you know, do you remember in, like,

Speaker 0

九十年代。

the nineties?

Speaker 0

我都把那本杂志给忘了。

I forgot about that magazine.

Speaker 0

对。

Yes.

Speaker 0

是的。

Yeah.

Speaker 1

当时真有一本叫《Sassy》的杂志。

There was a magazine called Sassy magazine.

Speaker 1

我第一次听到这个词,大概就是看到它摆在超市货架上的时候。

That was my first exposure to the word, I think, when I saw that on the, like, in the grocery store on the on the racks.

Speaker 0

对。

Mhmm.

Speaker 0

这挺有意思的,因为很多词在不同语言里会带上性别色彩。

And this seems interesting because many words take on a gendered meaning in languages.

Speaker 0

同一个词,用在女人身上可能是一个意思,用在男人身上却可能是完全不同的含义,可能是正面的,也可能是负面的。

They can mean one thing for women and something different for men that could be negative or positive.

Speaker 0

如果你不小心用了带有负面含义的词,可能会破坏彼此的关系。

And if you accidentally use these words negatively, you could break a connection.

Speaker 0

对方可能会觉得被冒犯、伤心,或者受到伤害。

Other person might feel offended or sad or hurt.

Speaker 0

所以我们一定要让你彻底了解这个有趣的词。

So we definitely want to make sure that you have all the details about this interesting word.

Speaker 1

是的,今天我们要深入探讨这个非常微妙的词。

Yeah, we're going to take on this real nuanced word here today.

Speaker 1

各位,跟着我们一起探索吧,别忘了在播客平台点关注,以免错过《All Ears English》的后续节目。

Or if you're in YouTube, go ahead and hit subscribe because we like to approach these more challenging topics, these more nuanced words.

Speaker 1

我们知道你们已经准备好理解这种细微差别,以便建立更深的联系。

We know you guys are ready for nuance so that you can build more connection.

Speaker 1

明白吗?

Okay?

Speaker 0

没错。

Exactly.

Speaker 0

那我们先来回答第一个问题。

So let's first dive into first question.

Speaker 0

‘sassy’这个词能用来形容男人吗?

Can sassy be used to talk about men?

Speaker 0

我们之前提到过几个性格很‘sassy’的男生。

We shared a few men we know who are sassy.

Speaker 0

当然可以。

Yes.

Speaker 0

但这得看情况,对吧?

But it depends, right?

Speaker 1

当然可以。

Yes, for sure.

Speaker 1

所以答案是,没错,问题是这个词能不能用在男人身上?

So the answer is, yeah, the question is can it be used to talk about men?

Speaker 1

当然能,我有几个男性朋友,我肯定会说他们很sassy。

Yes, I mean, I give an example of a couple of guy friends that I have that definitely I would call sassy.

Speaker 0

他们自己大概也会这么称呼自己。

And they would probably call themselves sassy.

Speaker 1

他们肯定会这么觉得。

They totally would.

Speaker 1

完全没错。

Yeah.

Speaker 1

百分之百。

100%.

Speaker 1

尤其是在他们那个圈子里互相这么说的时候。

Especially, like, with each other in their group.

Speaker 1

是的。

Yes.

Speaker 1

对吧?

Right?

Speaker 1

有时候是彼此之间的一种互动。

Sometimes it's playing off of each other in a sense.

Speaker 1

但说实话,我只会用在合适的语气和情境下。

But really, just I would only use this in the right tone and context.

Speaker 1

对吧?

Right?

Speaker 1

你大概不会对上司说这个词,除非——比如说对方是男性——这本来就是他性格的一部分,而且他就是喜欢这么表现。

You probably wouldn't say this about your boss at work unless that were part of, let's say, if it's a man, unless that were part of his personality and really wanted he acted that way Right.

Speaker 1

啊。

At

Speaker 0

这挺有意思的,因为这位听众说得对,这个词确实更常用来形容女性。

That's what's interesting because, you know, this listener is right that it is more commonly used for women.

Speaker 0

那我们来大致梳理一下这些词。

So we'll kind of go over the terms here.

Speaker 0

对于一个更阳刚、认同自己是典型男性的人,他可能不希望被叫做‘俏皮’,对吧?

But so for a man who is more masculine, identifying as a more masculine man, he might not want to be called sassy Right.

Speaker 0

因为这个词总体上被认为更偏向女性化。

Because it is, in general, considered a more feminine term.

Speaker 1

是的。

Yes.

Speaker 1

没错。

Yes.

Speaker 1

我觉得这几个朋友,他们有时候确实更贴近自己 feminine 的一面。

And I would say, these particular friends, I will just say that they're a little maybe a little bit more in touch with their feminine side at times.

Speaker 1

所以用‘俏皮’来形容他们,还挺合适的。

And that's kind of where it makes sense to use the word sassy.

Speaker 1

我对他们的评价就是如此。

What I'll say about them.

Speaker 1

特别有意思。

Just a lot of fun.

Speaker 0

没错。

Right.

Speaker 0

从定义上说,形容女性时,'sassy' 意思是活泼、大胆、反应机敏。

So definitions wise, when you're referring to a woman, sassy means like spirited, bold, quick witted.

Speaker 0

通常是个褒义词,但其实也可能带点贬义。

It's usually quite positive, but it actually can be an insult.

Speaker 0

是的。

Yes.

Speaker 0

就是一种委婉地抱怨某人太闹腾、太张扬、太吵,或者太爱较劲的方式,对吧?

It's like a kind way of insulting someone that you think is overly spirited or bold or loud or it's tricky, right?

Speaker 1

对,除非人家自己就认这个标签。

Yeah, unless they are owning that.

Speaker 1

就像我那个朋友,她听到这种说法根本不会介意。

Like with the example of my friend, they would not be upset about that description.

Speaker 1

肯定会说,当然了,对吧?

Would say, of course I am, right?

Speaker 0

这得看情况。

It really depends.

Speaker 0

如果一个人自己觉得是个性鲜明的,那再好不过。

If a person self identifies as sassy, awesome.

Speaker 0

但如果对方没这么认为,你却说‘你这话真够呛’,而且本意是想批评或挑刺,那就有冒犯的可能了。

If not, and they say something and you're like, wow, that was sassy, and your intent is a little more to criticize or call them out, that's where it could potentially be offensive.

Speaker 1

这里的关键就在于细微差别。

This is where the nuance is.

Speaker 1

这真的非常微妙,奥布里。

This is extremely nuanced, Aubrey.

Speaker 0

没错。

Exactly.

Speaker 0

那对男人来说呢?

So what about for men, right?

Speaker 0

这其实意思差不多,但如果你用来说一个男人,而他并不够 feminine,或者不够展现自己温柔的一面,那就可能变成一种侮辱。其实,说一个男人有女性化的特质本身不该是贬义的,但语气里往往带着负面意味,容易让人不舒服。

This can mean essentially the same thing, but it can be used to insult a man if they're not more feminine presenting or more in touch with their feminine side than, you know, saying that a man has feminine traits shouldn't necessarily be insulting, but the negative sentiment is there and a person could be offended.

Speaker 1

对,就是这样。

Yeah, exactly.

Speaker 1

这还跟你说话的语气有关。比如你要是说:‘哟,你挺有个性啊?’

It also depends on the tone of voice you're using to So call someone if you say, Oh, you're sassy, aren't you?

Speaker 0

没错。

Right.

Speaker 0

如果语气特别负面、带着评判,不管对谁,大概都不会喜欢。

If it sounds really negative and judgmental, for anyone, probably wouldn't like that.

Speaker 1

没错,完全没错。

Exactly, exactly.

Speaker 1

所以,如果你真要用这个词,最好带着玩笑的口吻,别带评判。

So again, it should be playful and not judgmental if you do deploy this word.

Speaker 1

比如说,你看到他在群聊里的回复了吗?

So for example, did you see his response in the text thread?

Speaker 0

是啊,他可太爱耍嘴皮子了。

Yes, he can be super sassy.

Speaker 0

我特别喜欢这一点。

I love it.

Speaker 1

真不错。

Nice.

Speaker 1

没错。

Yes.

Speaker 0

那语气特别轻松有趣。

The tone there is very playful and fun.

Speaker 0

我明显是在说那种自己也会说自己爱耍嘴皮子的人。

I'm clearly talking about someone who would also call themselves sassy.

Speaker 0

对吧?

Right?

Speaker 0

这完全没有贬义,真的。

There's no judgment Yes.

Speaker 1

没错。

Absolutely.

Speaker 1

或者我之前见过你的同事。

Or I met your coworker earlier.

Speaker 0

他挺爱耍嘴皮子的,对吧?

He's sassy, isn't he?

Speaker 0

总让我保持警惕。

Keeps me on my toes.

Speaker 0

对。

Mhmm.

Speaker 1

太喜欢了。

Love it.

Speaker 1

太喜欢了。

Love it.

Speaker 1

所以这里头其实很有讲究。

So again, there's real nuance here.

Speaker 1

如果你觉得有人不喜欢被说成‘爱耍嘴皮子’,那就别这么叫,不然会显得你在冒犯人。

Be careful if some if you think someone will not want to be called sassy, don't call them that or it will be an insult.

Speaker 0

没错。

Exactly.

Speaker 1

如果你自己就是这种性格,想展现这种风格,那没问题,这是你的自由。

If you decide you want if that's your personality, you're trying to deliver that, then fine, that's your choice.

Speaker 1

但你要清楚,如果你知道对方不喜欢,还这么叫,那就是在贬低人。

But just know that you're delivering an insult if you know they won't want that.

Speaker 0

明白吗?

Okay?

Speaker 0

我有个实用建议:如果听到有人自称‘爱耍嘴皮子’,那你就可以用轻松调侃的语气跟着说。

I think a good pro tip is if you hear someone refer to themselves as sassy, then you could say it in a very playful, fun way.

Speaker 0

如果没人这么自称,那就别轻易用这个词。

If not, I would wait and if someone hasn't referred to themselves using that word, then I wouldn't.

Speaker 0

其实还有别的词可以代替,比如机智、有趣或者充满活力。

And there are some synonyms, some different words we could use instead like witty, fun or energetic.

Speaker 0

这些其实意思是一样的。

These really mean the same thing.

Speaker 1

对。

Yeah.

Speaker 1

我喜欢这个说法。

I like that.

Speaker 1

没错。

Yeah.

Speaker 1

完全正确。

Absolutely.

Speaker 1

有时候,'sassy' 也可以用来形容家里的宠物。

Sometimes sassy can also be used to describe our pets around the house.

Speaker 1

有时候养宠物的人

Sometimes keeper can

Speaker 0

往往特别有个性。

be are often very sassy.

Speaker 1

猫更胜一筹。

Cats are even better.

Speaker 1

他的性格就像只猫。

Keeper's kind of a cat in his personality.

Speaker 1

他会听你说,但决定要不要听你的请求,要么干脆不理你,转身走开,还给你个白眼。

So, like, he'll kind of like listen to you and decide whether he wants to take your, you know, your request or just ignore you and then walk away with a side eye.

Speaker 1

这狗可真够呛的。

You know, that's a sassy dog.

Speaker 0

特别有意思,对吧?

Love it, right?

Speaker 0

你看,他确实给了我们点颜色瞧瞧。

Like, okay, he's given us some sass.

Speaker 0

我们平时也这么用。

We also use it that way.

Speaker 0

这词本身是个名词。

It's a noun.

Speaker 0

所以‘sassy’是形容词,我们也可以这么用,对吧?

So sassy is the adjective and then we can also say that, right?

Speaker 0

不过没错,确实如此。

But yes, it's true.

Speaker 0

我们经常用这个词来形容动物,特别是当它们对你表现出那种态度的时候。

We say this for animals a lot too if they're giving you

Speaker 1

小孩子有时候也会这样,挺有脾气的,对吧?

a Or little bit of kids maybe could act sassy, right?

Speaker 0

当然了。

Absolutely.

Speaker 0

我女儿就是这样。

My daughter.

Speaker 0

我小女儿特别有个性。

My youngest daughter is very sassy.

Speaker 0

她有时候还会顶嘴。

And sometimes she talks back.

Speaker 0

所以有时候我说‘别跟我顶嘴’,这个词也能当动词用。

So sometimes if I say, you know, stop sassing me, we use it as a verb too.

Speaker 0

‘别跟我顶嘴’就是别跟我反着说。

Don't sass me means don't talk back to me.

Speaker 0

你懂的,‘别给我甩脸色’或者‘别跟我耍态度’,意思都一样。

You know, speak respectfully or don't give me sass means the same thing.

Speaker 1

挺有意思的。

Interesting.

Speaker 1

我觉得,就算是母语者,随着年纪增长,我对这个词的理解也变得更细腻了。

I feel like my understanding of this word, just even as a native speaker, has become more nuanced as I've gotten older.

Speaker 1

小时候,特别是十几岁的时候,我总觉得这个词完全是负面的。

Like, I feel like when I was a kid, maybe your your teenager's age, I only saw it as a negative thing.

Speaker 1

对吧?

Right?

Speaker 1

就是说一种不耐烦的态度。

Like, this just means attitude.

Speaker 1

对吧?

Right?

Speaker 1

但现在我觉得,有些人就是喜欢耍个性。

But now I see it as some people want to be sassy.

Speaker 1

他们就是有意要这样表现。

They're trying to be that way.

Speaker 1

这是一种表达自我的方式。

It's a way of expressing themselves.

Speaker 0

没错。

Absolutely.

Speaker 1

而且在某种程度上,这也和性别认同有关。

And maybe gender identities in some ways too.

Speaker 0

我同意。

I agree.

Speaker 0

我觉得随着社会对性别认同越来越包容,这个词的含义也在变化。

I think this has evolved as we've become more tolerant of gender identities.

Speaker 0

现在我觉得这是一件好事。

It is a positive thing to me now.

Speaker 0

我喜欢那些有个性、又坦然接受自己的人。

I love someone who's sassy and who owns that.

Speaker 0

我觉得越来越多的人不再轻视这种特质了,尤其是当一个人明确这样认同自己时,我们就会明白,这其实挺有意思的。

And I think that's becoming more and more common that we don't look down on this so much, especially if someone's self identified that way, then we can realize it's just fun.

Speaker 0

有个性的人特别有意思。

Sassy people are fun.

Speaker 1

是的。

Yeah.

Speaker 1

因为我们的文化渐渐更愿意接纳他人了。

Because our culture's kind of come around to accepting people a bit more.

Speaker 1

我觉得我们一直都有这种倾向。

I think we always have.

Speaker 1

美国文化一向比较容易接受与众不同的人,只是这些年来越来越明显了。

I guess American culture has been more likely to accept someone that's different, but more and more so over time.

Speaker 1

就是那种愿意做自己的人。

Like, someone that's just willing to be themselves.

Speaker 1

我们就是喜欢这种人。

We love that.

Speaker 1

没错。

Yes.

Speaker 0

我同意。

I agree.

Speaker 0

关于吉安卢卡提出的第二个问题,简单说一下,'sassy' 也可以形容衣服,但它的意思和 'sexy' 很接近,涉及的性别含义也一样。

And to quickly answer the second question that Gianluca sent in, sassy can be used to describe clothing, but it has a very similar meaning to the word sexy and the same gender implications apply.

Speaker 0

所以,当你用 'sassy' 来形容一件裙子时,其实和说它 'sexy' 是一个意思。

So all of this applies whether if you're going to call a dress sassy, recognize that it has the same meaning as calling it sexy.

Speaker 0

你希望别人用 'sexy' 来形容他们的穿着吗?

Is this someone that you want to call their clothing sexy?

Speaker 0

如果不想,那我建议别这么用。

If so, I wouldn't.

Speaker 0

如果不是的话,我也不太会说它很时髦。

If not, I wouldn't call it sassy.

Speaker 1

对。

Yeah.

Speaker 1

那我们还是回到‘时髦星期六’吧。

So let's go back to Sassy Saturdays.

Speaker 1

为什么我们要把周六的节目叫做‘时髦星期六’呢?我真的很喜欢这个命名,而且我们绝对不会改。

Why do we label our Saturday episodes, which I love by the way, and we're never going to change.

Speaker 1

这名字太棒了。

It's fantastic.

Speaker 0

你可能不知道我们在说什么。

You don't know what we're talking about.

Speaker 0

你大概还没订阅,所以错过了这些内容。

You probably haven't subscribed and you're missing that.

Speaker 0

我们每周六也有节目,记得点关注,别错过。

Also have episodes on Saturday, so be sure to hit follow so you don't miss those.

Speaker 1

千万别错过这些。

Definitely don't miss those.

Speaker 1

那我们为什么这么叫呢?

And why do we?

Speaker 1

我们当初是怎么想到用这个小绰号来称呼周六的节目的?

Why did we choose that little nick name for our Saturday episodes?

Speaker 0

对。

Yeah.

Speaker 0

因为你看看我们之前列出的那些同义词。

Because look at the synonyms we shared there.

Speaker 0

机智、有趣、充满活力。

Witty, fun, energetic.

Speaker 0

这些词其实都是‘sassy’的另一种说法。

Those are the other ways that we say sassy.

Speaker 0

而这些词正好形容了我们的节目。

And our that describes our episodes.

Speaker 1

没错。

Exactly.

Speaker 1

而且这是双重头韵,大家都喜欢这种双押,特别顺口。

Plus, it's a double iteration, which everyone loves a double alliteration, and it just works.

Speaker 0

太完美了。

So perfect.

Speaker 1

对。

Yeah.

Speaker 1

那奥布里,我们再看看还有什么。

So, Aubrey, let's see what else.

Speaker 1

还有哪些词其实带有性别色彩?

What are some other words that actually have a gender connotation?

Speaker 1

这是我们得了解的一个方面。

Is one aspect of this word we have to know.

Speaker 1

这个词确实带有一点性别倾向。

It does have a bit of a gender connotation.

Speaker 0

确实,英语里这样的词还有很多。

Definitely and there are a lot of words like this in English.

Speaker 0

所以我们这儿就举几个例子。

So, we're just going to share a few here.

Speaker 0

一个是‘敏感’这个词。

One is sensitive.

Speaker 0

对女性来说,人们常常觉得这很正常,对吧?

For women, this is often expected, right?

Speaker 0

有时候这个词带点轻视的意思,但女性被说敏感,大家好像觉得理所当然;可要是说一个男人敏感,反而可能是在夸他情绪细腻、善于思考。

Sometimes it is used a bit dismissively, but women are sort of expected to be sensitive, So then often if a man is called sensitive, it can be positive, meaning they're a deep thinker in touch with their emotions.

Speaker 0

不过,如果意思是说他太情绪化、反应过度,那这就变成贬义了。

It can be negative if they're being called overly emotional or reactive.

Speaker 0

不管是男人还是女人,被人说‘敏感’,都可能觉得被冒犯。

A man might be offended or a woman, anyone might be offended if they're called sensitive.

Speaker 1

这完全要看说话的语境。

It just so much depends on the context.

Speaker 1

完全对。

Totally.

Speaker 1

你们在聊什么话题?

What is the topic you're talking about?

Speaker 1

对,咱们来聊聊更合适的词吧。

We're Yeah, share better words.

Speaker 1

你先说。

Go ahead.

Speaker 1

比如共情、防御性强,或者反应过度。

Yeah, empathetic, defensive, or reactive.

Speaker 1

我的意思是,反应过度和防御性强确实容易带贬义,但共情这个词挺好的,对吧?

I mean, I think reactive definitely could be considered negative for sure or defensive, but empathetic is a nice one, Right?

Speaker 0

如果我反应过度,我宁愿别人说我反应过度,也不愿说我敏感,因为‘敏感’这个词会让人误以为我情绪化,而事实可能并非如此。

But if I am being reactive, I would rather someone call me reactive than sensitive because they're making this emotional connection there that might not be there.

Speaker 0

你懂我的意思吧?

Know what I mean?

Speaker 1

是的,没错。

Yeah, yeah.

Speaker 1

我觉得我之前在播客的其他几期里提到过,今天早上我差点被锁在门外了。

I think I shared this on the podcast, the other episodes, but I almost got locked out of my house this morning.

Speaker 1

我试着开门,但密码怎么都不管用。

I was trying to get into the house and the code wasn't working.

Speaker 1

密码锁的电池没电了。

The battery died on the code.

Speaker 1

我当时真的差点哭出来。

And so I definitely started crying.

Speaker 1

我估计我也一样。

I probably would too.

Speaker 1

天气冷,人也特别敏感。

Was cold sensitive.

Speaker 0

如果你感到沮丧,那确实会这样。

If you're frustrated, yes, it happens.

Speaker 1

我感觉自己今天一整天都得和狗窝在走廊里了。

It's like, I think I'm going to spend the whole day in the hallway with my dog today.

Speaker 0

有时候,如果一个人最近没好好释放情绪,就会这样。

Well, sometimes that just happens if a person hasn't had an emotional outlet recently.

Speaker 0

我有时候就需要大哭一场,挺好的。不然,迟早会因为被锁在外面,在走廊里哭出来。

Sometimes I just need a good cry, it's good to watch Otherwise, a sad I'm going to end up crying in a hall because I'm locked out.

Speaker 1

确实就是这样。

That's really what it is.

Speaker 1

情绪总得有个出口,差不多每两周就得来一次。

That's really It's what it got to come out at some point every two weeks or so.

Speaker 1

你说,这不就是最好的时机吗。

Know, what better time.

Speaker 1

软弱也是其中之一。

Soft would be another one.

Speaker 1

所以啊,各位女性,你们觉得奥布里这么叫合适吗?

So here, women, what do think Aubrey, for calling

Speaker 0

女性啊,这个说法其实挺有意思的。

women Well, really interesting.

Speaker 0

我觉得就像‘sassy’这个词已经发生了很大变化,很多这类词也都跟着变了。

I think in the same way that sassy has really evolved, a lot of these words have evolved as well.

Speaker 0

以前,大多数女性听到‘soft’这个词根本不会介意,意思就是温柔,常常是夸人呢。

Like once upon a time, most women would have had no problem being called soft, it would sort of mean like gentle, it would often be like a compliment.

Speaker 0

但现在,很多女性都不想被人说成‘soft’。

But a lot of women now don't want to be seen as soft.

Speaker 0

我们更果断了,也为自己独立感到自豪。

We're more assertive and we're proud of our independence.

Speaker 0

这个词我还是避着点用吧。

I would avoid this one.

Speaker 0

我觉得对男性来说,这个词也常常是贬义。

I think it often will be more of an insult for men as well.

Speaker 0

意思就是软弱、太情绪化。

It would mean like weak or overly emotional.

Speaker 0

我觉得更好的词是冷静、善良、体贴、有爱心。

So I think better words are calm, kind, thoughtful, caring.

Speaker 0

这些词的正面含义更强。

All of those have a more positive connotation.

Speaker 1

没错。

Right.

Speaker 1

或者干脆夸夸他们性格的其他方面。

Or just choose to comment on some other aspect of their personalities.

Speaker 1

对吧?

Right?

Speaker 1

没错。

Right.

Speaker 1

也是。

That too.

Speaker 1

对,我同意。

Yeah, I agree.

Speaker 1

但我

But I

Speaker 0

我不介意别人说我善良或有爱心。

don't mind someone calling me kind or caring.

Speaker 0

‘软弱’这个词对我来说像是一种侮辱,不管你是说给男人听还是

Soft sounds like an insult to me, whether you're saying it to a man or

Speaker 1

我同意。

a I agree.

Speaker 1

对。

Yeah.

Speaker 1

‘胆小鬼’也是,这是个严重的贬义词。

Wimp also, big insult.

Speaker 0

对,没错。

Yeah, right?

Speaker 0

不管是对女人还是男人,我都不想被人叫胆小鬼。

And whether it's for a woman or a man, I don't want to be called a wimp.

Speaker 0

如果有人激我做某事,而我不愿意,他们可能会说我是胆小鬼。

It might be if someone dares me to do something and I don't want to, they might be like, you wimp.

Speaker 0

意思就是你软弱、害怕。

It means you're weak or scared.

Speaker 0

不够坚强。

Not strong.

Speaker 0

说到底,我们根本不该用这种话去贬低别人的勇气。

There's just you know, we just shouldn't be insulting someone's strength.

Speaker 0

其实没什么委婉的说法。

There isn't really a kind way to say this.

Speaker 1

我同意。

I agree.

Speaker 1

还有那个词——‘大男孩’。

And then the world the word man child.

Speaker 1

我得说,现在这个词挺流行的。

Now, I will say that this is popular right now.

Speaker 1

现在挺流行的。

It's trendy.

Speaker 1

对。

Yeah.

Speaker 1

我承认,我也没少叫人‘大男孩’。

I'll say I'm not above calling someone a man child.

Speaker 1

只是没当着面这么说过。

I just haven't done it directly to their face.

Speaker 0

我也不会当面这么说。

I wouldn't say it to someone's face.

Speaker 0

我觉得是莎宾娜·卡彭特的歌。

I think it was a Sabrina Carpenter song.

Speaker 0

最近有首挺火的新歌,叫《大男孩》。

There's like a popular new song, man child.

Speaker 0

我觉得是莎宾娜·卡彭特唱的。

I think it's Sabrina Carpenter.

Speaker 0

我不太确定。

I'm not positive.

Speaker 0

外面的听众可能会说,不对,是那个别的流行女歌手的歌,你知道的?

Out there listeners might be like, No, it's this other pop girly, you know?

Speaker 0

对,对,对。

Right, right, right.

Speaker 0

不过呢,这个词确实挺有意思的。

But yeah, this is an interesting word.

Speaker 0

它专指男性,意思是孩子气。

It's really for men only, and it means childish.

Speaker 0

比如他们没法照顾自己,或者处理不好自己的情绪。

Like they can't take care of themselves or that they're not handling their emotions.

Speaker 1

没错,没错。

Yes, yes.

Speaker 1

所有那些你本该期待一个成年人具备的情绪成熟度,他们却因为某种原因还没达到。

All the things, I guess the emotional status that you would expect of an adult, they haven't gotten there for some reason.

Speaker 1

对吧?

Right?

Speaker 0

比如说,两个人在约会,结果一方被拉黑了,就会说那个男人是个‘大男孩’。

And this is used, for example, if two people are dating and they get ghosted, call they the man a man child.

Speaker 0

因为他们的意思其实是想贬低对方。

Because what they're saying is this person is, you know, they want to insult them.

Speaker 0

他们对对方的行为感到不满,觉得这人太不成熟了。

They're upset about their behavior and they're calling them immature, really.

Speaker 1

完全没错。

Totally.

Speaker 1

这个例子挺贴切的。

That's a good example.

Speaker 1

我从来不会当着面直接这么说一个人。

And so I would never say this too directly to a person's face.

Speaker 1

顺便说一下,这个词只用在女性身上。

This is only for women, by the way.

Speaker 1

对男人来说,

For men,

Speaker 0

顺便说一下。

by the way.

Speaker 0

我不会对女人这么说。

Wouldn't say this to a woman.

Speaker 0

这不适用。

It doesn't apply.

Speaker 1

我不会说你是‘大男孩’。

I wouldn't say you're a man child.

Speaker 0

这话挺伤人的,而且可能根本没有对应的女性说法。

Mean, And there's maybe no female equivalent.

Speaker 0

我们不会说‘女童’或者‘女孩儿’。

We don't say woman child or girl child.

Speaker 0

其实

There's

Speaker 1

根本不是。

really not.

Speaker 1

但最好说得更具体一点,你知道的。

But it's better to be more specific, you know.

Speaker 1

你不负责任,也不替别人着想。

You're irresponsible, inconsiderate.

Speaker 1

你情绪上不太敏锐。

You're not very emotionally aware.

Speaker 0

对。

Right.

Speaker 0

我刚才在想,有没有对应的女性说法。

I was trying to think of a female equivalent.

Speaker 0

我们直接说‘孩子’就行了。

We do just say a child.

Speaker 0

你就是在耍孩子脾气。

You're being a child.

Speaker 0

这句话不管是对男人还是对女人都适用,其实你的意思是,你表现得不够成熟。

That could be said to a man or a woman And what you mean is you're being immature.

Speaker 1

不成熟这个说法挺常见的,我觉得确实如此。

Being Immature is a frequent one, think I would Yeah.

Speaker 1

这里真有不少有意思的内容。

Hear Really interesting stuff here.

Speaker 1

所以这算是一个‘别这么干’的 episode,就像你之前说的,奥布里。

So a bit of a what not to do episode, as you said earlier, Aubrey.

Speaker 1

那咱们就开始吧。

So, let's go for it.

Speaker 1

咱们来做个角色扮演吧。

So, let's do a role play.

Speaker 1

行吧?

Yeah?

Speaker 0

好,来吧。

Okay, let's do it.

Speaker 0

你正在培训一位新的男同事,然后向我抱怨他。

You are training a new male coworker, and you are venting about them to me.

Speaker 1

好,开始了。

Okay, here we go.

Speaker 1

他太敏感了。

He's so sensitive.

Speaker 1

我给他做培训反馈的时候,他完全受不了。

I was trying to give him feedback during the training and he could not handle it.

Speaker 0

你说的敏感,具体是指什么?

Oh, what do you mean by sensitive?

Speaker 0

比如,容易抵触?

Like defensive?

Speaker 1

对,就是这个意思。

Exactly.

Speaker 1

他气得不得了。

He got so upset.

Speaker 1

说实话,他整个人都挺嫩的。

Honestly, he's just a bit soft overall.

Speaker 0

也许说他容易反应过度更准确些。

Maybe it's better to say he's reactive.

Speaker 1

没错,这么形容确实更贴切。

True, that's probably a more accurate way to put it.

Speaker 1

但老实讲,他可能根本就是个大男孩心态。

But honestly, he might just be a complete man child.

Speaker 0

我肯定不会跟他这么讲。

Well, I definitely wouldn't give him that feedback.

Speaker 1

对,这种话你也不会当着同事的面说。

Yeah, you're not going to say that to a coworker.

Speaker 0

我其实挺喜欢这个角色扮演的,因为我们都经历过这种场面——有人用这种带性别歧视的词,你都不知道该怎么回应。

I kind of love this role play because we have all been there where we're in this conversation where someone is using these gendered insulting terms, and it's hard to know how to respond.

Speaker 0

你明明想告诉他,我不喜欢你这么说话,但直接跟同事这么说,又特别尴尬。

You want to let them know I'm not comfortable with the language you're using, but it's really uncomfortable to say that directly to a coworker.

Speaker 0

所以我们这里有一些更好的选择。

So, we have some good options here instead.

Speaker 1

对,这个观点非常好。

Yeah, that's a really good point.

Speaker 1

今天我们这期节目收获真不少。

We're getting a lot out of today's episode.

Speaker 1

没错。

Yes.

Speaker 1

真的很多。

Wow, a lot.

Speaker 1

今天这期内容太充实了。

This is really power packed episode today.

Speaker 1

是啊。

Yeah.

Speaker 1

回顾一下我们刚才说的,我说过,他太敏感了。

So, going through what we said, I said, Oh, he's so sensitive.

Speaker 1

你说,你这话是什么意思?

And you said, What do you mean by that?

Speaker 1

你是说他太防御性强了吗?

Do you mean defensive?

Speaker 0

对。

Right.

Speaker 0

所以别一上来就说:‘我知道,对吧?’

So instead of being like, Oh, you know, I know, right?

Speaker 0

或者‘这太荒唐了’——这种说法其实是在默认‘敏感’这个词用得没错,而我是在纠正这一点。

Or That's crazy, which would condone your use of this sensitive, I'm pushing back, Right?

Speaker 0

我只是想说,我觉得‘敏感’可能不是最合适的词,我给你提供个别的选择。

I'm sort of saying like, I don't know if that's the best word to use, and I'm giving you an alternative.

Speaker 1

没错。

Exactly.

Speaker 1

然后我说,说实话,他整体上就是有点太软了。

And then I said, honestly, he's just a bit soft overall.

Speaker 1

我这儿要提一个我们不推荐使用的词。

Here I come with one of the words we don't recommend.

Speaker 0

对,我也做过类似的事,我会说,也许用‘反应性强’更合适。

Yeah, and then I sort of did the same thing where I say, maybe it's better to say he's reactive.

Speaker 0

我其实没明说,但暗示了我不认同用这个词。

I'm basically without saying it, I am implying I don't agree with the use of that term.

Speaker 0

你不如换个说法试试?

How about if you say this instead?

Speaker 0

但要说得专业、有礼貌。

But in a professional, polite way.

Speaker 1

可是Aubrey,我真没明白你的意思。

But I'm not getting the memo here Aubrey.

Speaker 1

我真的没搞懂。

I'm just not getting it.

Speaker 1

这种情况确实发生过,而且不少见。

Which happens, it sure has.

Speaker 1

我会说。

I say.

Speaker 1

但说实话,他可能就是个十足的大孩子。

But honestly, he might just be a complete man child.

Speaker 0

那我就会说,我不会给他这样的反馈。

Then I just say, well I wouldn't give him that feedback.

Speaker 0

别当面跟他说这种话。

Don't say that to his face.

Speaker 0

我的意思是,我大概会找个理由先离开吧?

I mean I probably would excuse myself, right?

Speaker 0

因为这时候我会觉得挺不舒服的。

Because I'm like, I would be uncomfortable at this point.

Speaker 0

有人向我抱怨同事用这种不恰当的词,这种事确实会发生,你得知道该怎么回应。

Someone's venting to me about a coworker using these inappropriate terms, but we do find ourselves in those situations sometimes and you need to know what you can say.

Speaker 1

完全对。

A 100%.

Speaker 1

我太喜欢了。

I love it.

Speaker 1

真的很棒。

Really good.

Speaker 1

今天这期内容真丰富。

A lot in this episode today.

Speaker 1

大家去听听第1826期吧。

Guys, go over and check out episode eighteen twenty six.

Speaker 1

你们在英语里会不会也用这种带有贬义的性别化形容词,跟今天聊的这种感觉一样?

Do you use these derogatory gender adjectives in English on the same kind of same vibe as today's This

Speaker 0

这是以前的一期了。

was from a while back.

Speaker 0

你可以在App里搜索1826,或者到我们的节目里找一下。我们当时聊过一些词,比如‘shrill’,我记得是个用来形容声音的、带有性别色彩的形容词。

So you could either search eighteen twenty six in the app, come find it on our episode, But we shared different words like shrill, I remember was one, an adjective to describe a voice that's more gendered.

Speaker 0

我们还讨论过好几个今天没提到的、在英语里带有性别色彩的词。

We talked about several different words that we didn't cover today that are sort of gendered in English.

Speaker 0

如果你们不记得或者错过了,一定要去听听这一期。

So be sure to check that out if you don't remember it or if you missed it.

Speaker 1

对,奥布里,我们该给听众们留点什么建议呢?

Yeah, Aubrey, where should we leave our listeners?

Speaker 1

好问题。

Great question.

Speaker 1

我觉得很多听众都好奇过‘sassy’这个词,还有其他的。

I think a lot of our listeners have wondered about this word sassy and others.

Speaker 0

确实挺微妙的,尤其是那些跟特定性别挂钩的词。

Well, it is tricky, especially with terms that are associated with a certain gender.

Speaker 0

得看语气和语境才行。

You need the right tone and context.

Speaker 0

不是谁都能这么叫的。

You wouldn't say them to just anyone.

Speaker 0

我们这儿有些实用建议,告诉你什么时候该用、怎么用。

We have some pro tips here about when to know what to say.

Speaker 0

如果别人说了这个词,你听了觉得不舒服,那该怎么办呢?

What can you say if someone says one and you don't feel comfortable with it, right?

Speaker 0

确实很难把握。

Very tricky.

Speaker 1

哇哦。

Wow.

Speaker 1

说得真好。

Really good.

Speaker 1

但归根结底,还是看关系。

But again, it comes back to connection.

Speaker 1

如果你要用‘sassy’来形容一个男人,得确保他听了会觉得开心,甚至会说声谢谢。

If you're gonna use the word sassy to describe a man, make sure that man would appreciate and say thank you.

Speaker 1

我知道我自己就挺喜欢的。

I know I am.

Speaker 1

对吧?

Right?

Speaker 0

我懂。

I know.

Speaker 0

对吧?

Right?

Speaker 0

我太喜欢了。

I love it.

Speaker 0

等他们自己这么叫的时候再说吧。

Wait till they call themselves that.

Speaker 0

没错。

Yes.

Speaker 0

就是这样。

Exactly.

Speaker 0

去吧,放手做。

Go for it.

Speaker 1

本来就是这么回事。

That's what it is.

Speaker 1

我觉得这些词说的其实就是这个意思。

Think that's what it's what all of these words are about.

Speaker 1

你要确保自己说的话,要是对方听到了,会感到开心。

Make sure that what you're saying would make them feel happy if they heard you say that.

Speaker 1

对吧?

Right?

Speaker 1

因为我们真的不想伤害别人。

Because we wanna avoid hurting people in Absolutely.

Speaker 1

这个

The

Speaker 0

对吧?

Right?

Speaker 0

关键在于建立连接。

It's about connection.

Speaker 0

如果你伤害了别人,

If you're hurting someone,

Speaker 1

你就没法和他们建立联系。

you won't be able to connect.

Speaker 1

没错,就是这样。

You got it.

Speaker 1

说得好,奥布里。

Good stuff, Aubrey.
