嗨,奥布里。

Hey, Aubrey.

Speaker 0

你最近怎么样?

How are you?

Speaker 2

我很好,米歇尔。

I am great, Michelle.

Speaker 2

你呢?

How are you?

Speaker 0

我挺好的。

I'm doing well.

Speaker 0

能和你们一起录节目,我特别兴奋。

Excited to be recording with you guys.

Speaker 0

琳赛不在的时候,我和奥布里会多一些对谈时间,但你还是会听到她的声音,别担心,All Ears English 一切照旧。

Aubrey and I are gonna have more time on the mic together while Lindsay is out, but you will still be hearing her voice, don't you worry, and nothing is changing at All Ears English.

Speaker 0

不过我们会挺有意思的。

So but we're gonna have some fun.

Speaker 0

Aubrey,你平时会许愿吗?

So Aubrey, do you tend to are you a wisher?

Speaker 0

你经常许愿吗?

Do you tend to make a lot of wishes?

Speaker 2

这问题问得真好。

That is a great question.

Speaker 2

Lindsay 和我不久前在播客里还聊过这个,你知道吧,在美国,至少在很多地方,人们过生日时都会吹蜡烛许愿?

Lindsay and I chatted about this on the podcast not that long ago that you know how often in The States at least, I think in a lot of the world, you blow out candles on a cake and make a wish?

Speaker 2

是的。

Yeah.

Speaker 2

我从来不这么做。

I never did.

Speaker 2

我也不明白自己为什么要吹蜡烛。

I don't know why I would blow out the candles.

Speaker 2

我好像从来没认真许过愿,至少不记得具体许过什么愿望。

I don't think I ever really made a wish or at least I don't remember any, like, specific things I would wish for.

Speaker 2

我觉得我根本不信,谁来实现这些愿望呢?

And I think I just, like, didn't believe, like, who's granting these wishes?

Speaker 2

我那时候挺怀疑的。

I think I was a skeptic.

Speaker 2

你呢?

What about you?

Speaker 0

从小就是个怀疑论者。

Skeptic from a very young age.

Speaker 2

从小就开始了。

From a very young age.

Speaker 2

对。

Yes.

Speaker 0

我可是很认真对待每一个愿望的。

Well, I I like I kinda took my wishes very seriously.

Speaker 0

我恰恰相反,一直很认真对待许愿这件事。

I would I'm I was more on the other end.

Speaker 0

我总是很紧张。

I would be nervous.

Speaker 0

我的愿望从来都不是什么有趣的东西。

Like, my I mean, my wishes were always like, I never wished for anything fun.

Speaker 0

我基本上总是祈求健康。

I was basically always wishing for like Health.

Speaker 0

生活顺遂。

Good life.

Speaker 0

别人都能平安无事。

That no one would die.

Speaker 0

是的。

Yes.

Speaker 0

但是

But

Speaker 2

我从来就不喜欢

I also never like a

Speaker 0

很多人

lot of people

Speaker 2

会往喷泉里扔硬币许愿。

will throw a coin into a fountain and make a wish.

Speaker 2

我这辈子从来没这么做过,但我的孩子会。

Never have I done that in my life and my kids does.

Speaker 2

这根本不是什么惯例。

It's not a thing.

Speaker 2

我不太清楚。

I don't know.

Speaker 2

我不是那种会许愿的人。

I'm not a wishmaker.

Speaker 2

你会这么做吗?

Do you do that?

Speaker 2

你会往喷泉里扔硬币许愿吗?

Do you throw coins into a fountain and make a wish?

Speaker 0

说实话,我以前会,但现在都是我孩子在做,有时候我女儿还会直接从喷泉里拿硬币。

I mean, I used to, but now my kids do it, but sometimes then my daughter will try and just take coins from fountains.

Speaker 2

这个我倒真会干。

Now that I would do.

Speaker 2

我记得电影《淘气包马利》里,他们 somehow 进到地下,发现喷泉底下全是硬币,当成宝藏一路捡走。

That I would be a I remember on the movie Goonies when there's, like, somehow they access underground, like, coins in a fountain, and they're like, treasure, and they're taking it all.

Speaker 2

小时候看到那一幕,我就觉得太棒了。

I remember as a kid being like, yes.

Speaker 2

我真想把那些硬币全拿走。

I want all those coins.

Speaker 0

这太有意思了。

That's so funny.

Speaker 0

对啊。

Yeah.

Speaker 0

今天我们要聊一个很有趣的表达。

So today we are going to talk about, a cool expression.

Speaker 0

这叫一厢情愿。

This is a wishful thinking.

Speaker 0

一厢情愿。

Wishful thinking.

Speaker 0

你平时会用这个说法吗?

Do you use that?

Speaker 2

我会用。

I do.

Speaker 2

我平时不太许愿,但经常会说‘一厢情愿’,尤其是我这种比较理性的人。

I don't make wishes a lot, but I do say wishful thinking, especially as a skeptic.

Speaker 2

要是有人太乐观、太指望好事发生,我就会说:‘这纯粹是一厢情愿。’

I'll say to someone who is being hopeful or wishful, I'll be like, yeah, that's wishful thinking.

Speaker 2

你总是这么扫兴。

You just bring everybody down.

Speaker 2

让他们泄了气,没了势头。

Air out of their sails, the wind out of their sails.

Speaker 0

是啊。

So yeah.

Speaker 0

这挺有意思的,因为其实呢。

So this is interesting because it yeah.

Speaker 0

它跟许愿没什么关系。

It doesn't actually deal with making wishes.

Speaker 0

这更多是,嗯。

This is more kind of yeah.

Speaker 0

更偏向怀疑论的那一面。

More of the skeptic side.

Speaker 0

对。

Mhmm.

Speaker 0

所以我们今天来聊聊这个。

So we're gonna talk about this.

Speaker 0

不过各位,别忘了在你们听《All Ears English》播客的平台点个关注。

Just open that search bar, search All Ears English, and you can't miss that cheerful, bright yellow background.

Speaker 0

没错。

Exactly.

Speaker 0

太好了。

Awesome.

Speaker 0

好的。

Okay.

Speaker 0

那么,说说看,这位怀疑论者,什么是盲目乐观?

So tell us, miss skeptic, what is wishful thinking?

Speaker 2

是的。

Yeah.

Speaker 2

这其实讲的是希望。

So this is all about hope.

Speaker 2

你希望某件事发生,但心里清楚它不太可能。

You're wishing something will happen, but you know it's unlikely.

Speaker 2

对吧?

Right?

Speaker 2

这非常乐观。

It's very optimistic.

Speaker 2

我们常常会说,我知道这可能是空想,但接着还是会表达出对未来的期望——对我们自己、对孩子、对这个世界。

We often say, like, I know this is wishful thinking, but and then we'll say like a hope we have for the future for us, for our kids, for the world.

Speaker 0

是的。

Yes.

Speaker 0

没错。

Exactly.

Speaker 0

我们通常只是承认某件事只是空想,但这样一来,反而显得有点悲观了。

So we often just acknowledge that something is wishful thinking and it but and that in turn ends up being kinda pessimistic.

Speaker 2

对。

Yeah.

Speaker 2

或者我更愿意说,这是现实主义。

Or I would say realist.

Speaker 0

明白了。

Okay.

Speaker 0

是的。

Yes.

Speaker 2

有些人会说那是悲观。

Some people would say pessimistic.

Speaker 2

我觉得我只是现实而已。

I'm like, I feel like I'm just realistic.

Speaker 0

对。

Yeah.

Speaker 0

没错。

Yeah.

Speaker 0

明白了。

Okay.

Speaker 0

这要看情况。

That's Depends

Speaker 2

取决于你怎么看。

on how you look at it.

Speaker 0

是的。

Yeah.

Speaker 0

我的意思是,奥布里,人们在什么情况下会有不切实际的幻想呢?

I mean, well, Aubrey, in what context do people have wishful thinking?

Speaker 2

比如中彩票吧。

Maybe like winning the lottery.

Speaker 2

买彩票的人,心里都抱着这种幻想。

Anyone buying a lottery ticket, it has wishful thinking.

Speaker 2

对吧?

Right?

Speaker 2

他们明明知道中奖的概率极低,可还是抱着希望。

They've got to know it's so unlikely they'll win, but they're hopeful.

Speaker 2

所以才去买票。

So they're buying a ticket.

Speaker 0

是的。

Yeah.

Speaker 0

没错。

Exactly.

Speaker 0

或者只是幻想一夜成名。

Or maybe just a fast, like like a I succeed overnight.

Speaker 0

对吧?

Right?

Speaker 0

所以嘛,是的。

So maybe Yeah.

Speaker 0

比如有人想当电影明星,觉得下一月就能拍上第一部电影。

For example, that somebody wants to be a movie star and they think, oh, I'm gonna, you know, overnight be like, by next month, I'll be in my first movie.

Speaker 0

我的意思是,

I mean,

Speaker 2

对。

yes.

Speaker 2

没错。

Exactly.

Speaker 0

这种事情确实会发生。

These these can happen.

Speaker 0

这些情况是有可能的,但概率很低。

These are things that can happen, but they're unlikely.

Speaker 2

对。

Yes.

Speaker 2

没错。

Exactly.

Speaker 2

或者想找个捷径解决问题。

Or quick fixes for things.

Speaker 2

我家里就经常遇到这种事,比如冰箱突然没电了。

This has happened to me so many times just around the house where I'm like, oh, you know, the electricity of the fridge is out.

Speaker 2

我心想,肯定是保险丝烧了,换一个就好了,结果只是我一厢情愿。

I'm sure that's just a fuse we replace, and then that was wishful thinking.

Speaker 2

很多时候,你还是得请维修工,或者干脆换个新冰箱。

You have to call a repairman or buy a new fridge, like, often.

Speaker 0

是的。

Yes.

Speaker 0

这不是个捷径。

Not a quick fix.

Speaker 0

没错。

Exactly.

Speaker 0

你知道吗,有时候你就是希望一走开,再回来时问题自己就解决了。

You know, sometimes you just hope that you walk away and then you come back and it'll just have worked itself out.

Speaker 2

那才是真在做白日梦。

Now that's real wishful thinking.

Speaker 2

我先出去一下。

I'm gonna leave the room.

Speaker 2

我待会儿再回来。

I'm gonna come back.

Speaker 0

对。

Yeah.

Speaker 0

是的。

Yeah.

Speaker 0

我的意思是,不是马上就能解决。

Well, that I mean, not right away.

Speaker 0

其实呢,我们家洗碗机现在有点问题,我本来以为自己修好了。

Well, yeah, actually, we have a current issue with our dishwasher, and we I I thought, oh, I I I fixed it.

Speaker 0

我觉得现在没问题了。

I think it's fine.

Speaker 0

我只是把排水口清理了一下,或者类似的操作。

And I just had to, you know, drain in the garbage disposal or whatever.

Speaker 0

然后你是不是觉得,只要顺利运行一次,问题就解决了?可实际上它又恢复原状了。

And then Was that wishful You have one good dishwasher cycle, and then it's still back to

Speaker 2

原来的样子。

what was.

Speaker 2

所以现在我们正试着

So right now, we're trying to

Speaker 0

是的。

Yeah.

Speaker 0

所以,奥布里,没关系。

So, Aubrey, it's okay.

Speaker 0

我们会想办法的。

We'll figure it out.

Speaker 0

听起来你并没有真的感到内疚,是吧?

Are you so it sounds like you are not really guilty.

Speaker 2

你知道吗?

You know what?

Speaker 2

我确实犯了过于乐观的错误,这更多是关于这个世界整体的。

I am guilty of wishful thinking about is more about the world in general.

Speaker 2

我始终对世界和平抱有希望。

I absolutely have hope for peace in the world.

Speaker 2

对吧?

Right?

Speaker 2

我经常感到失望,但我还是抱着一种美好的幻想,觉得人们本质上是善良的,可每当他们不是这样时,我又一次次地失望。

And I'm often disappointed, but I have wishful thinking that, like, people will be good and kind, and then I'm constantly disappointed when they're not.

Speaker 2

所以某种程度上,我确实还是抱有这种不切实际的期待。

So I I do have wish wishful thinking in some ways.

Speaker 0

是的。

Yeah.

Speaker 0

对。

Yeah.

Speaker 0

不过呢,这种想法其实也有它好的一面。

I mean, but that that can be a good thing too.

Speaker 0

我的意思是,你确实……

I mean, you Yeah.

Speaker 2

你总不能对所有事情都持悲观态度吧。

You wouldn't wanna be fatalistic about everything.

Speaker 0

没错。

Yeah.

Speaker 0

不。

No.

Speaker 0

不。

No.

Speaker 0

不。

No.

Speaker 0

不。

No.

Speaker 0

不。

No.

Speaker 0

那样只会让你情绪低落。

That'll just bring you down.

Speaker 0

不过,我们来举几个例子,看看这会是什么样子。

So, but let's do some examples of how this might sound.

Speaker 0

那我先来做一个示范。

So here, I'll do the first one.

Speaker 0

你觉得现在还能找到最后一刻的航班吗?还是只是在空想?

Do you think we can actually find a last minute flight or is that just wishful thinking?

Speaker 2

这真是个再贴切不过的例子了。

Oh, that's such a perfect example.

Speaker 2

对吧?

Right?

Speaker 2

或者你的航班取消了,人在机场,心里想着:还有没有可能两三个小时内能搭上另一班?

Or maybe your flight's been canceled and you're at the airport and you're like, do you think there's a chance there's another one leaving within a couple hours?

Speaker 2

还是说这纯粹是不切实际的幻想?

Or is this just wishful thinking?

Speaker 2

没错。

Yep.

Speaker 2

没错。

Yep.

Speaker 2

没错。

Yep.

Speaker 2

或者那条裙子正在打折。

Or the dress could be on sale.

Speaker 2

我太懂这种自欺欺人了。

I know wishful thinking.

Speaker 2

我有时候也会这么做,如果我……

I did this sometimes if I

Speaker 0

是的。

Yeah.

Speaker 0

挺有意思的是,东西打折的时候,你还会想,说不定还能再便宜点,因为有时候在店里,标价已经是折上折了,比如再打七折。

It's funny when things are on sale and you're thinking, well, maybe it's still is lower because sometimes you're at a store and it's like like an extra 30% off of the sale price.

Speaker 0

这真让人纠结。

And it's hard.

Speaker 0

是看原价还是……

Is it from the ticket or

Speaker 2

就是这个意思。

the it's right?

Speaker 2

就像当这全是我的钱的时候。

Like when it is all my money.

Speaker 2

但偶尔去诺德斯特姆折扣店真的特别划算,有时候你走到收银台,本来以为要三十块,结果只收十块。

But every now and then, Nordstrom Rack is really great for this where sometimes you'll get up to the register and it's, you know, I thought it would be $30 and it's like 10.

Speaker 2

那时候我就觉得,今天真是赚到了。

And I'm like, this is the best day.

Speaker 0

还有什么比这更好的吗?

What could be better?

Speaker 0

是的。

Yeah.

Speaker 0

没错。

Exactly.

Speaker 0

或者也许他们能在三分钟内追回二十分。

Or maybe they will come back 20 points in three minutes.

Speaker 0

我想这大概是想太多了吧。

I guess that's wishful thinking.

Speaker 2

我打篮球的时候特别容易这样。

I'm very guilty of this with sports.

Speaker 2

对吧?

Right?

Speaker 2

我看一场橄榄球比赛时。

I'm watching a football game.

Speaker 2

总觉得不到最后一刻就别放弃。

I'm like, it's not over till it's over.

Speaker 0

没错。

Yep.

Speaker 0

其实我觉得我在这方面已经好多了,但小时候和我爸一起看尼克斯队比赛时的场景,我到现在还记得。

Well, see, I think I'm more I've I've think I've gotten better about that, but I still have this specific memory of watching a Knicks game with my dad when I was a kid.

Speaker 0

他老说一句话:不到最后一刻就别放弃,这话确实挺常见的。

And he kept on saying it's not over till it's over, which is definitely a common expression.

Speaker 2

没错。

Yep.

Speaker 0

结果他真的说对了。

And then he was right.

Speaker 0

最后他们赢了。

And they ended up winning.

Speaker 0

但就是这一点,让我特别喜欢篮球,尤其是这一点。

But it was that that's what I I I really love that about basketball, especially.

Speaker 2

是的。

Yeah.

Speaker 2

这让我想起我们刚看了《星际救援》,对我们来说还是部新片。

This reminds me of we just watched project hail Mary, which for us is brand new.

Speaker 2

我们是提前录的,等你们听到的时候,这部电影应该已经上映一段时间了。

We're recording a bit in advance, so it will have been out a while by the time.

Speaker 2

所以你们大多数人可能已经看过了。

So most of you have probably seen it.

Speaker 2

不过我还是不会剧透,因为很多细节都会泄露剧情,但整个故事的核心——那种希望,其实预告片里已经透露了不少。

Regardless, I still won't give any spoilers because a lot of things would be spoilery, but the the whole premise, like, the hope they have, it's probably in the preview actually.

Speaker 2

他们想靠这个拯救地球,纯粹是抱有不切实际的幻想。

What they're trying to do to save the planet is definitely wishful thinking.

Speaker 2

所以这事儿才叫‘最后一搏’。

That's why it's called the hail Mary.

Speaker 2

就像橄榄球里,把球远远扔到端区,指望有人能接住一样。

That means, like, in football, when they throw the ball all the way to the end, it just feels like somebody catches it.

Speaker 2

这根本就是赌运气。

It's wishful thinking.

Speaker 2

这就是一场‘最后一搏’。

It's a hail Mary.

Speaker 2

我们只是盼着能成,但说实话,希望渺茫。

We're just hoping that it works out, but Right.

Speaker 2

所有证据都表明,这事儿成功的可能性微乎其微。

All the evidence points to, it's very unlikely.

Speaker 0

没错。

Right.

Speaker 0

真巧,你刚提到这个,因为今天早上我跟妈妈打电话,她说她也想看这部剧,她刚读完那本书。

And it's funny that you just brought that up because just this morning, I was, on the phone with my mom, and she said, oh, she wants to start watching that, that she read the book.

Speaker 0

而且

And

Speaker 2

那本书写得特别棒。

I read the book's fantastic.

Speaker 2

电影也拍得非常好。

The movie was great.

Speaker 2

我孩子特别喜欢。

My kids loved it.

Speaker 2

他们俩现在都想当科学家了。

They both wanna be scientists now.

Speaker 2

在我看来,任何能让孩子对科学产生兴趣、让科学显得酷炫又吸引人的电影,都是对社会的巨大贡献。

Like, any movie that inspires kids to be a scientist and make science look really cool and exciting is a win for society in my opinion.

Speaker 0

我太喜欢了。

I love it.

Speaker 0

所以从结构上来看,这挺有意思的。

So just interesting structurally here.

Speaker 0

很多时候你可能会说,我们之前聊过这个,这难道只是一厢情愿吗?

I mean, a lot of times you might say, we talked about this, is that just wishful thinking?

Speaker 0

这真的是一厢情愿吗?

Is that wishful thinking?

Speaker 0

第二个例子,我们说‘我知道这是一厢情愿’,就是自己承认,心里清楚这不过是幻想。

And then the second example, we said, I know wishful thinking, which is acknowledging it on your own, saying that it I know it's wishful thinking.

Speaker 0

但你也可以这么说:‘我想这大概也是一厢情愿吧。’

But you might also say, I guess that's wishful thinking.

Speaker 0

所以表达这种意思其实有好几种方式。

So a lot of different ways that you can use this.

Speaker 0

没错。

Exactly.

Speaker 0

好的。

Alright.

Speaker 0

咱们来演几个小场景,看看这些话在对话里会怎么自然说出来。

Let's do a couple little mini role plays, to show how it might sound in conversation.

Speaker 2

我先来开头。

I'll start us out.

Speaker 2

你觉得咱们十分钟内能出门吗?

You think we can be out the door in ten minutes?

Speaker 0

我觉得这有点想当然了。

I think that's wishful thinking.

Speaker 2

我觉得太完美了。

I think so perfect.

Speaker 2

这是我丈夫。

This is my husband.

Speaker 2

他都已经准备好了二十分钟了。

He's like been ready for twenty minute.

Speaker 2

我的意思是,我本身收拾得不慢,但我在帮孩子们准备。

I mean, I don't take long to get ready, but I'm helping the kids.

Speaker 2

我突然想起还有件事没做。

I remember something I had to do.

Speaker 2

我说:不好意思。

I'm like, sorry.

Speaker 2

我们要迟到了。

We're running late.

Speaker 0

对。

Yes.

Speaker 0

哦,没错。

Oh, yep.

Speaker 0

这说的不就是我吗。

Sounds like me.

Speaker 0

还有另一个情况。

Or here's another one.

Speaker 0

也许我们还是能赢。

Well, maybe we'll still win.

Speaker 0

我们的蛋糕特别好吃。

Our cake is delicious.

Speaker 2

是啊。

Yeah.

Speaker 2

但好处实在太多了。

But there are so many pros.

Speaker 2

我也不确定。

I don't know.

Speaker 2

我觉得这不过是自我安慰罢了。

I think it's wishful thinking.

Speaker 2

对。

Yeah.

Speaker 2

这话真是一点不假。

This is very accurate.

Speaker 2

我是个现实派。

I'm the realist.

Speaker 2

我们就当赢不了,也没什么大不了的。

It's like we're not gonna win, and it's okay.

Speaker 2

偶尔真赢了,那我反而特别惊讶,特别开心。

And then when I do win, which is rare, I'm just so extra surprised and happy.

Speaker 0

是的。

Yeah.

Speaker 0

对。

Yeah.

Speaker 0

瞧好了。

There you go.

Speaker 0

我的意思是,这会不会打破别人的幻想呢?

I mean, can this ever burst someone's bubble though?

Speaker 0

今天算是个不错的意外之喜了。

That's a nice little bonus for today.

Speaker 0

你知道的,有人挺兴奋的。

You know, someone's excited.

Speaker 0

你知道吗,奥布里,你好像老是打破别人的幻想。

You know, Aubrey, sounds like you burst people's bubbles.

Speaker 2

我本来不想这样,但有时候就是忍不住。

I try not to do this, but I will.

Speaker 2

有时候纯粹是开玩笑,图个乐子。

And sometimes it's more for humor, like, as a joke.

Speaker 2

我就说:行吧。

I'll be like, okay.

Speaker 2

咱们还是回到现实吧。

Like, bring let's come back down to reality.

Speaker 2

我觉得这纯粹是想太多。

Like, I think that's wishful thinking.

Speaker 2

但很多时候,我故意不去这么做,因为看到别人因为期待落空而失望,实在让人不舒服。

But often, I will intentionally not do that because that's not a fun thing to see someone's face fall when they're excited about something.

Speaker 2

所以大多数情况下,我会刻意避免说这种话,不去泼冷水,因为我喜欢看到他们充满希望的样子,也相信事情也许真能成。

So more often than not, I'm going to very intentionally not use this phrase, not burst their bubble because I love that they're excited about something, and there is hope that it'll work out.

Speaker 0

是的。

Yeah.

Speaker 0

没错。

Exactly.

Speaker 0

这样很好。

Well, that's good.

Speaker 0

Aubrey,听起来你的想法挺积极的。

Aubrey, sounds like you have a healthy outlook.

Speaker 0

同意。

Agree.

Speaker 0

你也是。

And you yes.

Speaker 0

没错。

Exactly.

Speaker 0

还有其他一些你可能会听到的说法,比如‘不太可能’,我觉得你已经用过了。

So a couple other things you might hear, unlikely, I think you used this already.

Speaker 0

我们大概赶不上航班了。

Seems unlikely that we will actually be able to make our flight on time.

Speaker 0

那我们该怎么办?

What should we do?

Speaker 2

对。

Yes.

Speaker 2

或者这么说更乐观一点。

Or that's optimistic.

Speaker 2

你觉得咱们今晚能赚到两百块小费吗?

Do you think we could make 200 in tips tonight?

Speaker 2

这想法太乐观了。

That's optimistic.

Speaker 2

没错。

Right.

Speaker 0

或者是虚假的希望。

Or false hope.

Speaker 0

对吧?

Right?

Speaker 0

我们可以再跟进一下这个情况。

We could do a follow-up on this one.

Speaker 0

比如说,她正在给团队虚假的希望。

So for example, she's giving her team false hope.

Speaker 0

她知道他们根本拿不到加薪。

She knows they won't be getting raises.

Speaker 0

我们 definitely 要跟进一下这个话题。

Let's definitely do a follow-up on this.

Speaker 2

对。

Yeah.

Speaker 2

而且可以在《商务英语播客》里再聊一聊,因为我们在工作中经常遇到这种情况,有时候得对目标更现实一点。

And maybe over on the Business English Podcast because we do talk about this a lot at work where we do sometimes need to be more realistic with goals.

Speaker 2

不然的话,反而会让大家失去干劲。

Otherwise, we can demotivate people.

Speaker 0

是的。

Yeah.

Speaker 0

没错。

Yes.

Speaker 0

正是这样。

Exactly.

Speaker 0

所以这些都是很地道的表达。

So all all good expressions.

Speaker 0

那咱们在今天结束前先来做一个角色扮演吧。

So let's do a role play before we head out for today.

Speaker 0

Aubrey,咱们是朋友,我坚信咱们能在The Sphere买到后街男孩的票。

Aubrey, here we are friends, and I am convinced that we can get Backstreet Boys tickets at The Sphere.

Speaker 2

哦,真不错。

Oh, nice.

Speaker 2

我在The Sphere看什么都行。

I just wanna see anything at The Sphere.

Speaker 2

我刚跟几个去拉斯维加斯的朋友聊过,他们看了The Sphere上演的《绿野仙踪》音乐剧,因为那时候正好在演这个,但他们根本不是《绿野仙踪》的粉丝。

I was just talking to friends that went to Vegas, and they just saw this sort of like Wizard of Oz show at The Spear because that's what was there while with and they aren't even Wizard of Oz fans.

Speaker 2

他们说演出太震撼了。

They said it was phenomenal.

Speaker 2

就因为The Sphere这个场地太棒了,他们看完反而成了《绿野仙踪》的粉丝。

It, like, made them Wizard of Oz fans just because the spear is such a cool venue.

Speaker 0

是啊,各位。

Yeah, guys.

展开剩余字幕(还有 99 条)
Speaker 0

所以这是在拉斯维加斯。

So that's in Las Vegas.

Speaker 0

好吧。

So okay.

Speaker 0

我们开始吧。

Here we go.

Speaker 0

哇。

Wow.

Speaker 0

哦,看来票价真的很高。

Oh, so it looks like the prices are really high.

Speaker 0

我们要不要继续看看?

Should we just keep checking?

Speaker 2

我觉得价格不太可能降,得赶紧决定愿意出多少钱了。

I think it's unlikely that they'll go down, so we have to decide what we want to pay.

Speaker 0

对。

Yeah.

Speaker 0

不过,也许在演出开始前,价格会降下来。

But but maybe right before the show, the prices will drop.

Speaker 2

你这也太乐观了。

That's optimistic.

Speaker 2

我觉得票会卖光的。

I think they'll sell out.

Speaker 0

我知道这可能是我一厢情愿,但要不要早点去现场碰碰运气?

I I know this is probably wishful thinking, but maybe we should try going early to the door?

Speaker 2

我们可以试试,但我可不想让你抱太大希望。

We can try, but I don't want you to have false hope.

Speaker 2

说实话,你让我当这个现实派真挺好,这正是我平时会说的话。

Yeah, I'm definitely this is good that you had me be the more realistic one here because this is a conversation I would have.

Speaker 2

我觉得咱们别给自己设太高期望,免得失望。

I'm like, let's not set ourselves up for disappointment.

Speaker 0

对。

Right.

Speaker 0

对。

Right.

Speaker 0

没错。

Right.

Speaker 0

那真是太好笑了。

It was so funny.

Speaker 0

不过呢,这事儿挺常见的,你知道的,开演唱会或者比赛前,老是盯着票价看,反复查,有时候还真能碰上降价。

But, yeah, this is a very common thing, you know, before a concert, before a game, when you're checking prices, checking prices, and maybe, you know, because sometimes it does work out.

Speaker 0

有时候最后一刻票价突然就降了,但有时候呢,价格一直涨,或者直接卖光了。

Sometimes you do all of a sudden at the very last minute, the ticket prices drop, but sometimes they just keep them going up or they just sell out.

Speaker 0

这确实像赌博,不过这次我支持你,奥布里。

So it is a gamble, but in this situation, I'm with you on this, Aubrey.

Speaker 0

这可能性太小了。

That seems very unlikely.

Speaker 2

我以前还真碰上过一次。

I really scored once.

Speaker 2

以前有一家航空公司。

There used to be this airline.

Speaker 2

我记得叫City Bird。

I think it was called City Bird.

Speaker 2

现在应该已经不存在了。

I don't think it exists anymore.

Speaker 2

它会运营跨大西洋的航班,包下整架飞机,然后临出发前把多余的座位以极低的价格卖出去。

It would do transatlantic flights, and it would, like, charter a plane and then last minute sell any extra ticks tickets so cheap.

Speaker 2

我曾经从盐湖城飞到布鲁塞尔,只花了35美元。

And I was able to fly to Brussels from Salt Lake City for $35.

Speaker 2

简直太不可思议了。

It was the craziest thing ever.

Speaker 2

我是在出发前两天才偶然听说的,本来都打算不去了。

I, like, heard about it just, like, a couple of days before because I wasn't going to be able to go at all.

Speaker 2

但我真的得回去一趟。

I, like, needed to go back.

Speaker 2

长话短说,我简直不敢相信,居然还要额外加税和手续费,但即便如此,这依然是最便宜的机票。原因就在这儿。

Long story short, I I could not believe that, again, there's taxes and fees on top of that, but it still was the cheapest flight That's why.

Speaker 2

横跨大西洋的航班,有史以来任何人能买到的最低价。

Across the Atlantic that anyone could ever buy.

Speaker 2

太疯狂了。

So nuts.

Speaker 0

太不可思议了。

Amazing.

Speaker 0

因为那是

Because it's

Speaker 2

一个空座位。

just an empty seat.

Speaker 2

最后一刻。

Last minute.

Speaker 2

他们心想,算了。

They're like, meh.

Speaker 0

临出发前。

Last minute.

Speaker 0

总得有人买下吧。

Just somebody should take it.

Speaker 0

我喜欢这种感觉。

I love that.

Speaker 0

那好吧。

So okay.

Speaker 0

你刚才说,我说,我们要不要继续盯着看?

So you said I said, should we keep checking?

Speaker 0

你说,我觉得价格不太可能再降了。

And you said, I think it's unlikely that they will go down.

Speaker 2

是的。

Yeah.

Speaker 2

这挺有意思的。

And it's interesting.

Speaker 2

‘不太可能’听起来比‘我觉得会跌’更正式一点,后者更口语化。

Unlikely is slightly more formal than just a very conversation like, I think they're gonna go down.

Speaker 2

对吧?

Right?

Speaker 2

我们其实还有别的说法,不过这个也行。

There are other ways we can say this, but this one too.

Speaker 2

对吧?

Right?

Speaker 2

然后你说到‘我觉得价格会下跌’的时候,

And then I said when you said, oh, I think the prices will drop.

Speaker 2

我说这挺乐观的——这话是委婉的说法,其实就是想说:我很欣赏你这么乐观,但可能性不大。

I said that's optimistic, which is a kind way of saying like, I love that you're optimistic, but it's unlikely.

Speaker 0

我其实正在慢慢接受现实,但还没完全接受。

And then I'm kind of I'm I'm trying I'm I'm coming to terms with the reality, but I'm still not quite there.

Speaker 0

所以我说,我知道这可能只是一厢情愿,但也许我们可以早点去排队。

So I said, I know this is probably wishful thinking, but maybe we should try going early to the door.

Speaker 0

就是说,去售票处或者票房那里。

So like to the, you know, to the ticket, the box office.

Speaker 0

对。

Right.

Speaker 2

我觉得这句话最常用,当你对某事抱有希望,而别人更现实地泼冷水时,我们其实是在承认自己的期待和兴奋。

And this is, I think the most where I hear it the most likely, if you are being hopeful about something and someone's pushing back and being more realistic, we acknowledge this about our own hope and excitement.

Speaker 2

我知道这可能是想太多,但我还是想抱有希望。

Like, I know this is wishful thinking, but I'm still gonna hope.

Speaker 0

对。

Right.

Speaker 0

对。

Right.

Speaker 0

然后你说我们可以试试,但你不希望我抱有不切实际的期待。

And then you said we can try, but I don't want you to have false hope.

Speaker 0

所以你一直在强调,就像奥布里说的那样:你别想多了。

So you were just pounding it like Aubrey, like, you're not no.

Speaker 0

就是不会发生。

Like, it's not happening.

Speaker 2

没错。

Exactly.

Speaker 2

对吧?

Right?

Speaker 2

这些表达方式特别棒,因为你能看出,大家在乐观和现实之间确实差异很大。有了这些更温和、更体贴,或者更直接的说法,每个人都能挑出最适合自己性格的表达方式。

And it's really great to have all of these expressions because you can see this is such a great connection to recognize we're all different in how much we're hopeful or how realistic we are And to have more kind and thoughtful ways to say this, more blunt ways, you can sort of choose what works best for your personality.

Speaker 0

没错。

Exactly.

Speaker 0

确实如此。

Yeah.

Speaker 0

我特别喜欢这一点。

I love that.

Speaker 0

所以大家赶紧过去吧。

So guys, head on over.

Speaker 0

我们刚刚播出了《All Ears English》播客的第26和29期。

We did episode twenty six twenty nine of the All Ears English Podcast.

Speaker 0

刚才那段又是《All Ears English》。

That was more All Ears English.

Speaker 0

当然,好的。

Yes, please.

Speaker 0

今天咱们要下播了,Aubrey,还有别的要说的吗?

So, anything else before we head off the mic today, Aubrey?

Speaker 2

多用这些表达吧,但我特别喜欢这个提醒:像我这样的人,一不小心就会泼人冷水,反而伤了感情。

Use these phrases, but I do love this caveat, this warning that someone like me can burst someone's bubble, and that could hurt connection.

Speaker 2

别人对某件事特别兴奋,就让他们开心一会儿吧。

Someone's really excited about something, let them be excited.

Speaker 2

别急着拿这些话去提醒别人,觉得他们是在自找失望。

Like, don't be too quick to use these phrases because you think they're setting themselves up for disappointment.

Speaker 2

让别人去期待吧,说不定真能成呢,能开心一下也挺好。

You know, let people set themselves up for disappointment because it might work out, and it's nice to be excited.

Speaker 0

没错。

Right.

Speaker 0

就是这样。

Exactly.

Speaker 0

我觉得用这些表达时,最好先从自己说起。

I would say a great way to start using these is about yourself.

Speaker 0

对的。

Yeah.

Speaker 0

对吧?

Right?

Speaker 0

就像我们说的,这可能有点一厢情愿,但你说是不是?

Like we said, you know, I have this is probably wishful thinking, but right?

Speaker 2

正是如此。

Exactly.

Speaker 0

特别好。

So really good.

Speaker 0

谢谢你和我聊这个,Aubrey,我很快再跟你联系。

Thanks for talking about this with me, Aubrey, and I will talk to you soon.
