到时候见。

See you there.

Speaker 0

嘿,Aubrey。

Hey there, Aubrey.

Speaker 0

最近怎么样?

What's shaking?

Speaker 1

我很好。

I'm great.

Speaker 1

你呢,Lindsey?

How are you, Lindsey?

Speaker 0

我特别好。

I am so good.

Speaker 0

很高兴能回到麦克风前。

Glad to be back on the microphone.

Speaker 0

奥布里,你有跟哪些运动队吗?

Aubrey, do you follow any sports teams?

Speaker 0

我是说,有没有你特别喜欢的队伍?

I mean, any teams that you love?

Speaker 0

我知道米歇尔喜欢那个,叫什么来着?

I know Michelle loves what is it?

Speaker 1

好像是尼克斯队吧。

The Knicks, I think.

Speaker 1

对。

Yes.

Speaker 1

她经常聊尼克斯队。

She talks about the Knicks a lot.

Speaker 1

她超爱他们的。

She loves them.

Speaker 1

我大概算是会关注ASU的橄榄球队吧。

I I guess I follow ASU football.

Speaker 1

主要是因为我的邻居们和我丈夫都特别爱ASU橄榄球。

Mostly just because all of my neighbors and my husband, they all love ASU football.

Speaker 1

我最后就跟着去看比赛、参加赛前派对,真的很好玩。

I end up going to games tailgating and it is very fun.

Speaker 0

对,赛前派对特别有意思。

Yeah, tailgating is super fun.

Speaker 1

ASU赢的时候好玩,但除此之外,我也没有特别死忠的球队。

Fun when ASU wins, but other than that, there aren't really a lot of sports teams that I'm a diehard fan.

Speaker 1

你呢,Lindsay?

What about you, Lindsay?

Speaker 0

哦,我其实还好。

Oh, not really.

Speaker 0

我是说,我住在丹佛,所以人们喜欢野马队,但我来自新英格兰,所以人们喜欢爱国者队。

I mean, I live in Denver, so people love the Broncos, but I'm from New England, so people love the Patriots.

Speaker 0

我是说,你知道,我其实不太看体育比赛。

I mean, you know, I I don't really I'm not a big sports watcher.

Speaker 1

对。

Yeah.

Speaker 1

没错。

Right.

Speaker 1

我会支持弱势的一方。

I'm like, I'll root for the underdog.

Speaker 1

我就是随便看看,但很多人特别迷体育,还会下注,特别在意某支球队。

I'm like watching whatever, but I don't have a lot of people are like so into sports and they're betting on sports and they really care about one team.

Speaker 1

我不是那样的人。

That's not me.

Speaker 1

他们是谁赢都开心。

And they're like happy for whoever wins.

Speaker 0

有些人每个星期天都坐在沙发上看橄榄球。

Some people are just every Sunday, they're on the couch, they're watching football.

Speaker 0

对我来说,这有点过头了。

It's like, for me, it's too much.

Speaker 0

我觉得周末还是得有点变化才行。

You have to be able to have some variety in your weekends, I think.

Speaker 1

完全同意。

Totally.

Speaker 1

但有趣的是,我们的语言,尤其是英语,很多都跟体育有关,有很多体育习语。

But what's really interesting is how so much of our language, so much of English is built around sports, Idioms from sports.

Speaker 1

而且我们用来形容大获全胜的说法,在英语里用得特别广。

And the ways that we talk about winning decisively are used in so many ways in English.

Speaker 1

所以今天我们就来聊聊这个。

So we're talking about that today.

Speaker 1

怎么形容,你知道的,赢得干脆利落。

How to describe, you know, winning something decisively.

Speaker 1

可能是比赛、体育、游戏,或者像辩论,或者你知道的,工作上表现出色。

It might be a competition, a sports, a game, or like a debate or you know, doing well at work.

Speaker 1

今天我们聊的词汇就是“完胜”。

A solid defeat is the vocabulary we are talking about today.

Speaker 1

当你赢得如此彻底,对方根本没有机会。

When you win so decisively, the other person didn't stand a chance.

Speaker 0

对,很多这些短语可能起源于体育,但就像你说的,已经应用到职场、你正在做的项目里了。

Yeah, a lot of these phrases might have started in sports but have adapted, like you said, the working world, projects you're working on.

Speaker 0

所以把这些用在不同的领域里,会挺有意思的,也是一种很好的表达方式。

So it can be kind of fun, a good way to express yourself by using these in different realms.

Speaker 1

是的,我们最近一期节目里其实讲过“stand a chance”这个说法。

Yes, and we actually taught stand a chance in a recent episode.

Speaker 1

如果你错过了那一期,就听到最后吧。

So stay to the end if you missed that.

Speaker 1

我们会分享细节的。

We'll share details.

Speaker 1

但这对于建立联系很有帮助,因为就像我们说的,人们热爱体育和竞争。

But this is great for connection because as we said people love sports and competition.

Speaker 1

他们对此充满热情,但人们也喜欢赢,喜欢感受成功。

They feel very passionately but people also just love to win, to feel successful.

Speaker 1

林赛,我觉得这就是为什么很多这样的短语在英语中被广泛采用。

I think that's why, Lindsey, a lot of these phrases have been adopted elsewhere in English.

Speaker 1

庆祝胜利很有趣,分享那种“是的”的感觉也很棒,

It's fun to celebrate a win and share that Yes, with

Speaker 0

当你说出这个短语时,感觉很好。

the feeling and you say the phrase, it feels good.

Speaker 0

而这确实能建立那种联系。

And that does build that connection.

Speaker 0

对。

Right.

Speaker 0

各位,请点击关注按钮。

And guys, go ahead and hit the follow button.

Speaker 0

在All Ears English,我们最看重的是人与人之间的连接。

We're all about connection over here in All Ears English.

Speaker 0

你肯定不想错过这个系列,对吧?

And you don't want to miss this series, right?

Speaker 0

这是一个分为两部分的系列,这是第一部分。

This is a part one of a part two two part series.

Speaker 0

但第二部分会在哪里讲呢,Aubrey?

But part two is going to be where, Aubrey?

Speaker 1

会在商务英语节目里讲。

It's going to be on Business English.

Speaker 1

所以一定要关注商务英语播客,这样就不会错过这个系列的第二部分了。

So be sure to also follow the Business English podcast so that you don't miss part two of this series.

Speaker 1

我们经常这样做,在这里分享我们日常对话中更常用的短语。

We often will do this where we're sharing the phrases we use more in daily conversations here.

Speaker 1

然后在商务英语节目里,我们会分享一些在工作中更常用的短语。

And then over on Business English, we'll share some of the phrases that we use more at work.

Speaker 1

所以一定要两个播客都关注。

So be sure that you're following both podcasts.

Speaker 0

好的,那真是好东西。

Okay, so that's good stuff.

Speaker 0

各位,点一下关注按钮,我很期待今天的内容,Aubrey。

Guys, hit that follow button and I'm excited to get into this today, Aubrey.

Speaker 0

我的意思是,有哪些说法可以形容大获全胜?

I mean, are some of the ways that we could describe winning decisively?

Speaker 0

你怎么看?

What would you say?

Speaker 1

对,我们想快速分享一下“blew them away”这个说法。

Yeah, so we want to quickly share about blew them away.

Speaker 1

我们经常说“你让某人刮目相看”,最近在All Ears English第556期“别忽视短语动词”中也分享过这个。

We say this a lot, that you blew someone away and we also shared this recently on All Ears English 20 five-fifty six, don't blow off phrasal verbs.

Speaker 1

我们讲过“blew away”,你可以去那里了解更多细节,但这里举一个简单的例子,你可能会说,我们队在下半场把他们打得落花流水。

We covered blew away, so you can find more details about that one, but one quick example here you might say, our team blew them away in the second half.

Speaker 1

那根本就不是一场势均力敌的比赛。

It wasn't even a fair fight.

Speaker 1

所以这不适用于比分接近的比赛,对吧?

So this isn't for games that are close, right?

Speaker 1

它的意思是你真的赢了很多。

It means you really won by a lot.

Speaker 0

对,比如如果你是网球选手,你以6比0、6比0赢了,对吧?

Yeah, like if you're a tennis player, you won six-zero, six-zero, right?

Speaker 0

连续两盘直落。

Double straight sets.

Speaker 0

没错。

Exactly.

Speaker 0

对,很棒。

Yeah, good stuff.

Speaker 0

那么,奥布里,我们还能说哪些其他的表达呢?

So, what are other things we could say then Aubrey?

Speaker 1

对,下一个说法是彻底打败某人。

Yeah, so the next one is to beat someone soundly.

Speaker 1

这个副词“soundly”意思是某人赢得非常明确,毫无疑问谁更厉害。

This adverb soundly means someone is a clear winner, There is no doubt who was better.

Speaker 1

比如,主队以四比零彻底击败了他们。

So for example, the home team beat them soundly four-zero.

Speaker 0

或者她在辩论中彻底击败了对手。

Or she beat her opponent soundly in the debate.

Speaker 1

这甚至可以用在工作场合,比如某人是明显的候选人,经过小组面试、几轮面试后,明显会被选中的人。

This could even be at work if someone is like a clear candidate, the clear candidate to be chosen after maybe a panel interview, several rounds of interviews.

Speaker 1

你可能会对同事说,你知道吗,他会被录用我一点也不意外。

You might say this to a coworker like, you know what, I'm not surprised he was hired.

Speaker 1

他真的彻底打败了所有人。

He really beat everyone soundly.

Speaker 1

这跟实际的体育比赛或者你真正做过的事情没什么关系。

And it has nothing to do with like an actual sport or something you actually did.

Speaker 1

我们只是用这个短语来表示某人是明显的赢家,是明确的选择。

We just use this phrase just to mean someone was the clear winner, the clear choice.

Speaker 0

对。

Yeah.

Speaker 0

这个说法比我们接下来要讲的几个要正式一些,对吧?

It is a little bit more formal than the other ones that we're going to talk about now, right?

Speaker 0

我们要给听众介绍一些比较随意的说法,但对我来说,这个“beat them soundly”感觉更高级或者更正式一些。

We're going to give our listeners some pretty casual ones, but for me this beat them soundly feels a little more fancy or formal to me.

Speaker 1

确实更正式。

Definitely more formal.

Speaker 1

我觉得我们经常在政治辩论中用到这个说法。

I feel like we talk about this with political debates.

Speaker 1

我们会说某个政治家彻底击败了另一个。

We'll say one politician beat the other one soundly.

Speaker 1

这个副词“soundly”在英语中比较正式,也比较少见,表示某事发生得很彻底。

That adverb is a little more formal and rare in English soundly for something to happen soundly.

Speaker 1

所以我觉得这个词确实让这里的用词显得更高级一些。

So I think that really elevates the vocabulary here for that one.

Speaker 0

对,但下一个词我特别喜欢。

Yeah, but the next one, I love it.

Speaker 0

特别有意思。

It's so fun.

Speaker 0

Smoked。

Smoked.

Speaker 0

这个词真的很有意思,对吧?

So this is really fun, right?

Speaker 0

就是轻松击败某人。

To defeat someone very easily.

Speaker 0

几乎让人觉得毫不费力。

So almost makes it feel like it was effortless.

Speaker 0

我们在决赛里把他们打得落花流水。

We smoked them in the finals.

Speaker 0

那根本不算接近。

It wasn't even close.

Speaker 0

又是那种六比零、六比零的情况。

Again, it's that six-zero-six-zero situation.

Speaker 1

对。

Yes.

Speaker 1

我开始和我儿子下棋了,他赢了的时候最喜欢说这句话。

I've started playing chess with my son and this is his favorite thing to say when he wins.

Speaker 1

他会说,完胜你。

He'll be like, Smoked you.

Speaker 1

意思就是说我彻底赢了你,或者就是我赢了,但这样说很有趣。

It means like, I beat you soundly or like, I won, but it's a fun way to say it.

Speaker 0

那太棒了。

That's awesome.

Speaker 0

我喜欢这个。

I love that.

Speaker 1

说到下棋,再举个例子,他以为自己会赢下这盘棋,结果被她彻底碾压了。

Speaking of chess, another example, he thought he'd win the chess match but she totally smoked him.

Speaker 1

所以呢,这种说法非常随意,非常口语化,但挺常见的。

So yeah, this is very casual, very informal but it's pretty common.

Speaker 1

我也经常这么说,比如“他把我虐惨了”意思就是他赢了我很多。

I say this a lot too like, oh he smoked me means he beat me by a lot.

Speaker 0

被虐惨了最难受了。

It's the worst to get smoked.

Speaker 0

这种事常有,常有。

It happens, it happens.

Speaker 0

常有的事。

It happens.

Speaker 0

或者被碾压。

Or crushed.

Speaker 0

被碾压也特别惨。

It's also really bad to get crushed.

Speaker 0

对,这指的是在比赛中以非常悬殊的方式彻底输掉。

Right again, this is to completely lose a competition in a very drastic way.

Speaker 1

没错。

Exactly.

Speaker 1

我觉得这个词挺强烈的,情绪色彩很重,对吧?

It's kind of strong and emotional I would say right?

Speaker 1

它确实既适用于体育,也适用于日常生活中的各种情况。

Definitely works both for sports and everyday situations.

Speaker 1

我们可能会说他们这个赛季碾压了对手,或者你知道的,我们队昨晚被碾压了。

We might say they crushed the competition this season or you know our team got crushed last night.

Speaker 1

说实话,那场比赛看得真难受。

It was honestly rough to watch.

Speaker 1

但我们也会用“crushed”来形容情感上受到打击,对吧?

But we'll also talk about being crushed sort of emotionally by something, right?

Speaker 0

对,比如当我们说没得到那份工作让我深受打击,就可以这么用。

Yeah, so when I didn't get the job it really crushed me, we could say.

Speaker 0

奥布里,你会这么说吗?

Would you say that Aubrey?

Speaker 1

是的,我会这么说。

Yeah, I would say that.

Speaker 1

对,没得到那份工作的时候,我确实很受打击。

Yes, I was crushed when I didn't get the job.

Speaker 1

或者说,那件事让我很崩溃。

Or it crushed me.

Speaker 1

没错,对吧?

Absolutely, right?

Speaker 1

所以这个词既可以用在比赛失利上,也可以用在任何对我们影响很大的失去上。

So we use this both for like losing at a competition and also any kind of loss that just really affects us.

Speaker 1

这是一种很强烈或者很情绪化的失去。

It's a pretty powerful or emotional loss.

Speaker 0

对,但大家要注意,这和说你对某人有好感是完全不同的。

Yeah, but be careful guys because this is different from saying you have a crush on someone.

Speaker 0

那不一样。

That's different.

Speaker 0

对,完全是两码事。

Okay, totally different context here.

Speaker 1

是的,那个意思是喜欢某人。

Yeah, that means you like someone.

Speaker 1

你对那个人有感觉,对吧?

You have feelings for them, right?

Speaker 1

而这个意思正好相反。

And this is like the opposite.

Speaker 1

被打击是负面的。

This is negative to be crushed.

Speaker 1

如果你喜欢的人甩了你,你可能会心碎。

Your crush might crush you if they dump you.

Speaker 0

没错。

Exactly.

Speaker 0

我很喜欢。

I love it.

Speaker 1

你有没有过这样的经历:从一场英语对话中走出来,心里想,我知道自己想说什么,可为什么就是说不出来?

Have you ever walked away from an English conversation thinking, I knew what I wanted to say, so why couldn't I say it?

Speaker 1

这种感觉可能发生在你学了很多英语,但需要用到的时候,这些知识却拼不到一起。

That feeling can happen when you've learned a lot of English, but the pieces still don't work together when you need them.

Speaker 1

时间一长,你就不再相信自己的英语了。

And after a while, you stop trusting your English.

Speaker 1

你会怀疑自己的语法。

You question your grammar.

Speaker 1

你会在脑子里翻译。

You translate in your head.

Speaker 1

你会把想法说得更简单,因为长句子感觉太冒险了。

You make your idea smaller because a long sentence feels too risky.

Speaker 1

B1英语流利课程为你提供一条清晰的路径,帮你把语法、词汇、听力、发音、AI练习和真实的现场口语机会结合起来,还有一群支持你的伙伴。

Speaker 1

在周日30号午夜优惠结束前,去访问allearsenglish.com/b1。

Go to allersenglish.comb one before this offer expires on Sunday, the thirtieth at midnight.

Speaker 1

再说一遍,网址是allearsenglish.com/letterbnumberone。

One more time, that's allearsenglish.com/letterbnumberone.

Speaker 0

好的,Aubrey,我们回来继续聊几个有趣的例子,都是很随意的内容。

Alright, Aubrey, we're back with a couple more fun examples, really casual stuff here.

Speaker 0

下一个是什么?

What's the next one?

Speaker 0

那会是

What would be the

Speaker 1

下一个,对,下一个是“cleaned the floor with someone”,意思是彻底打败某人,让对方输得很惨,甚至有点丢脸,对吧?

next Yeah, next one is cleaned the floor with someone to defeat them so badly, it's almost embarrassing for them, right?

Speaker 1

这个说法可能用来吹嘘,对吧?

This is maybe used to brag, right?

Speaker 1

有时候有些人会说垃圾话,比如“我们把他们打得落花流水”。

Sometimes some people will trash talk and be like, we cleaned the floor with them.

Speaker 1

意思是我们赢了很多,我们在炫耀这件事。

It means we beat them by a lot and we're bragging about it.

Speaker 0

对,我觉得说这句话需要很大的自信,对吧?

Yeah, I feel like you have to have a lot of confidence to say this, right?

Speaker 1

而且你最好真的赢了很多。

And you better have really won by a lot.

Speaker 0

对,不能只是小胜。

Yeah, it can't.

Speaker 0

他们基本上不应该得分,对吧?

They shouldn't have gotten any points really, right?

Speaker 0

没错。

Exactly.

Speaker 0

或者说她在比赛中把所有人都打得落花流水。

Or she cleaned the floor with everyone in that competition.

Speaker 1

没错。

Exactly.

Speaker 1

对,这挺有意思的。

Yeah, and so this is interesting.

Speaker 1

这让我想到,因为我儿子,我们经常下棋,他会说大话,吹牛,我会跟他讲体育精神,因为稍微说一点没关系,只要轻松有趣,但很容易就过头了或者变得刻薄,对吧?

It kind of brings up, you know because again my son we're playing chess a lot and he'll trash talk, he'll brag and I'll talk to him about sportsmanship because like a little bit is okay if it's light hearted and fun but it can easily be too much or mean spirited right?

Speaker 1

所以这真的是一条很细的线,既要做一个好的运动员,在合适的场合用这些说法,但又不能吹牛太多或者太过分。

So that's really a fine line of being a good sport and using some of these phrases in the right context but not bragging too much or going overboard.

Speaker 0

对,这确实是个教他的好机会,我觉得肯定是的。

Yeah, that's a good opportunity to teach him that I think for sure.

Speaker 1

对,绝对是的。

Yeah, absolutely.

Speaker 1

总得在某个地方学嘛。

You've to learn somewhere.

Speaker 0

那再来看看sweep,它的过去式是什么,Aubrey?

And then to sweep, Or the past tense of sweep, Aubrey is what?

Speaker 1

Swept。

Swept.

Speaker 1

所以这是个很有意思的过去分词,意思是如果你swept了,就是说你在一个系列赛中赢了全部或者几乎全部的比赛,对吧?

So that's an interesting past participle and this means to win every or almost every game in a series if you swept, right?

Speaker 1

比如说,他们以三比零横扫了整个系列赛。

So for example they swept the series three to zero.

Speaker 0

或者我们可以说,她在那个锦标赛上横扫了所有对手。

Or she swept the competition at that tournament we could say.

Speaker 1

或者我们队这周末横扫了对手。

Or our team swept their rivals this weekend.

Speaker 1

所以这通常不是指一场比赛或一场对决。

So this isn't usually for like one game, one match.

Speaker 1

这通常指的是某种系列赛或比赛,你在其中大获全胜,对吧?

It usually means some kind of series or competition where you clean up, right?

Speaker 1

就是你在整个比赛中表现得特别出色。

Where you do really well over the whole competition.

Speaker 0

天哪,我觉得我打青少年网球的时候老是输。

Oh man, I feel like when I played junior tennis I used to lose all the time.

Speaker 0

我总是被对手打得落花流水。

I would always get crushed by my opponent.

Speaker 1

你知道的,这种事难免。

You know it happens.

Speaker 1

谁都会有这种时候,有意思的是——

It happens to the best of us and that's the interesting thing is.

Speaker 1

你能不能做到输得起也赢得起,对吧?

Can you be a good loser and a good winner, right?

Speaker 1

我得跟我儿子说,你不想当输不起的人,但也不想当赢了还让人难受的人。

I have to talk to my son like you don't want to be a sore loser but you also don't want to be a sore winner.

Speaker 1

就是别炫耀,别在人家伤口上撒盐。

Know bragging and rubbing it in.

Speaker 1

林赛,想象一下,如果那些在网球比赛里打败你的人,还到处炫耀,让你更难受,那会是什么感觉。

Imagine if the people who beat you at those tennis games, Lindsey, like bragging and making you feel even worse about it.

Speaker 0

孩子们在体育里能学到很多东西,你不觉得吗?

There's a lot to learn for kids in sports, don't you think?

Speaker 0

我的意思是,很多对生活很重要的道理,比如团队合作、赢和输,这些。

I mean a lot of important lessons for life, teamwork, winning, losing, that kind of thing.

Speaker 1

对,而且很多不是天生就会的。

Yeah, and a lot of it doesn't just come naturally.

Speaker 1

他们得在某个地方学到这些,

They have to learn that somewhere,

Speaker 0

对吧?

right?

Speaker 0

有意思。

Interesting.

Speaker 0

对。

Yeah.

Speaker 0

Aubrey,我们来做个角色扮演吧,因为我们知道听众们特别喜欢我们的招牌角色扮演。

Aubrey, let's jump into a role play because we know our listeners love our signature role plays.

Speaker 0

这次是什么场景?

What's the scenario here?

Speaker 1

好,你和我扮演朋友,我们支持同一支篮球队,正在讨论昨晚的比赛。

Alright, you and I are friends and we are rooting for the same basketball team and we're discussing last night's game.

Speaker 1

你先开始?

Wanna start us out?

Speaker 0

好。

Yeah.

Speaker 0

嘿,Aubrey,你昨晚看比赛了吗?

Hey Aubrey, did you catch the game last night?

Speaker 1

哦,看了,太精彩了。

Oh yeah, it was incredible.

Speaker 1

我们队把他们打得落花流水。

Our team crushed them.

Speaker 0

哦,我知道。

Oh I know.

Speaker 0

他们下半场基本上把对手打得毫无还手之力。

They basically cleaned the floor with them in the second half.

Speaker 1

是的,说实话,我高兴得不得了。

Yes and honestly, I couldn't be happier.

Speaker 1

特别是因为他们上赛季把我们打得惨不忍睹。

Especially since they completely smoked us last season.

Speaker 0

哦,那当然,但我们队今年真的扭转了局面。

Oh for sure, but our team has really turned things around this year.

Speaker 0

我觉得到目前为止我们横扫了整个系列赛。

I feel like we've swept the series so far.

Speaker 1

是的,我们一直打得对手毫无招架之力。

Yes, we've been beating teams pretty soundly.

Speaker 1

希望一直这样下去。

Hopefully it stays that way.

Speaker 1

不错。

Nice.

Speaker 1

这挺有意思的,因为跟咱们平时聊的完全不一样,但我经常听到别人这么聊。哦,真的吗?

This is funny because this is very dissimilar from any conversation you and I have had, but I overhear conversations like this all Oh, the really?

Speaker 1

对,我邻居们会一边打球一边聊,比如菲尼克斯太阳队,或者亚利桑那州立大学的橄榄球、篮球。

Yeah, my neighbors will be like playing and then they'll start talking about, you know, the sons, maybe the Phoenix Suns or ASU football ASU basketball.

Speaker 1

然后我就听着他们聊,因为我不懂。

Then I'll just like, while they have this conversation because I don't know.

Speaker 1

没什么可插嘴的。

Don't have anything to add.

Speaker 0

没错,这对我来说太熟悉了,每次跟我另一半的家人在一起,或者她爸妈在场的时候,聊的都是体育。

No, that is that is my reality in a major anytime I'm around my in laws and my partners around the parents, it's a lot of sports talk.

Speaker 0

他们会聊得很深入,比如谁被交易到哪个队了,哪个球员怎么样之类的。

I mean, they don't they'll go into it intensively and talk about this guy was traded to this team and this player and that and that.

Speaker 0

真的很深入。

It's really in-depth.

Speaker 0

幸好不是全程都这样,但他们一聊起来我就走神了,就像你说的那样。

Luckily, don't do it the whole time, but they'll go into it and I just tune out exactly as you're saying.

Speaker 1

对吧?

Right?

Speaker 1

这真的很棘手,你也不想总是那个说“我们能聊点别的吗?”的人。

It's so tricky and you don't want to always be the one that's like, can we talk about something else?

Speaker 1

就像你在努力表现出感兴趣的样子。

Like you're trying to be interested.

Speaker 1

你在问问题。

You're asking questions.

Speaker 1

我不知道他们是不是真的在乎这个。

I don't know if they really care about it.

Speaker 1

你不会

You don't

Speaker 0

不,不,他们知道的。

No, no, they know.

Speaker 0

他们知道我在走神。

They know I'm in La La Land.

Speaker 1

我脑子里在想别的事情。

I'm somewhere else in my head.

Speaker 1

哦,就像打开一本书那样。

Oh, like open a book.

Speaker 0

不,不,我就是直接去看《纽约时报》的照片。

No, no, I just I literally just go to my photo with The New York Times.

Speaker 0

哦,那挺有意思的。

Oh, that's funny.

Speaker 1

他们还在那儿。

They're they're still there.

Speaker 1

他们会继续聊下去。

They'll have the conversation.

Speaker 1

他们之后会跟你聊点别的。

They'll chat with you about something else later.

Speaker 0

没意思。

There's no point.

Speaker 0

有时候有些话题,他们知道我不感兴趣,我也不知道为什么。

Sometimes some topics are just like they know I'm not interested and I don't know.

Speaker 0

我们不再试图展现自己不同的一面了,那会怎么样?

We're not kind of trying to show different sides of ourselves anymore, what happens?

Speaker 1

我跟家人朋友在一起的时候也这样,有时候他们要聊一个话题,你就自己走开,去跟别人聊点别的,对吧?

That happens to me wherever when I'm with family friends like sometimes they're going to have a conversation and you just sort of excuse yourself, go talk to someone else about something else, right?

Speaker 1

对。

Exactly.

Speaker 1

那也挺好的,对吧?

That's fine too, right?

Speaker 1

只要你们聊天的时候,能找到你感兴趣的话题就行,对吧?

As long as it's like when you're chatting with them, you find something that you are interested in when you do talk, right?

Speaker 0

对。

Yeah.

Speaker 0

他们一聊到体育,大概五分钟就换话题了。

When they go into sports, it's like five minutes and then they move on.

Speaker 0

谢天谢地。

Thank goodness.

Speaker 1

那段时间你确实很投入。

There you very intense during that time.

Speaker 1

当然。

Absolutely.

Speaker 1

他们肯定会根据这个角色扮演来聊这个话题。

They will definitely have this conversation from this role play.

Speaker 1

好,那我们在这儿过一遍。

Well, let's go over it here.

Speaker 1

我一开始就说,是的,那场比赛太精彩了。

I first said, yes, the game was incredible.

Speaker 1

我们队把他们打得落花流水。

Our team crushed them.

Speaker 1

也就是说,他们赢得非常干脆,就像我们说的那样。

That means they won decisively as we said.

Speaker 1

他们赢了很多。

They won by a lot.

Speaker 0

然后我说,我知道。

And then I said, I know.

Speaker 0

他们基本上是把对方打得满地找牙。

They basically cleaned the floor with them.

Speaker 0

对吧?

Right?

Speaker 0

这是我们有趣的俚语说法,意思是他们……

This is our fun slang y way of saying they

Speaker 1

这个说法特别搞笑,因为你想啊,如果有人抓着另一个人拿他擦地板,这比喻多疯狂啊,但我们确实用它来表示他们赢了很多。

It's killed such a funny because if you imagine someone taking a person and cleaning the floor with them, like, what a crazy idiom, but we do use this to mean they won by a lot.

Speaker 1

他们打败了他们。

They beat them.

Speaker 1

他们在比赛中表现好得多。

They were much better at the game.

Speaker 0

还有很多其他的表达方式。

And there's a lot of other expressions too.

Speaker 0

我们还没有全部覆盖,可能可以做一个第二部分,讲其他表达,比如“他们干掉了他们”也是说他们决定性地赢了。

We haven't covered all we could probably do a part two on other expressions like they killed them is another way of saying they beat them decisively.

Speaker 0

对吧?

Right?

Speaker 0

他们在第二节把我们打惨了。

They killed us in the second quarter.

Speaker 1

没错。

Exactly.

Speaker 1

我们会在商务英语那边做第二部分。

And we are doing a part two over on business English.

Speaker 0

哦,好的。

Oh, good.

Speaker 0

哦,对。

Oh, yeah.

Speaker 0

没错。

That's right.

Speaker 0

我们会的,

We will

Speaker 1

一定会把“killed them”加进去。

definitely include killed them.

Speaker 1

这真的很有意思,因为很多这些表达我们在日常对话中经常用,但其中一些在职场中可能显得太随意了。

This is really interesting because a lot of these we use in everyday language like this and then some of them, some of these are a little too informal to really use at work.

Speaker 1

你偶尔可能会用,但还有一些我们在工作中更常用。

You might every now and then but there are others that we do use more often at work.

Speaker 1

记得点关注,这样你就能收到我们在工作中更常用的相关短语了。

Be sure to hit follow so that you can get all of the related phrases that we use more at work.

Speaker 0

我很喜欢。

I love it.

Speaker 0

然后我说,奥布里,下一句是什么?

And then said Aubrey, what was the next line?

Speaker 1

对,我说他们上个赛季把我们打得落花流水。

Yes, and I said they completely smoked us last season.

Speaker 1

所以我想说,我很高兴我们现在赢了,因为上个赛季他们把我们打得够呛。

So I'm saying like I'm really glad we're winning now because last season they killed us.

Speaker 1

就像你说的,他们把我们打得落花流水。

Like you said, they smoked us.

Speaker 1

他们把我们打得惨败。

They destroyed us.

Speaker 0

我说,所有这些

I said All

Speaker 1

其他的说法。

these other ways to say it.

Speaker 0

有很多种说法。

A lot of ways to say it.

Speaker 0

我说我觉得我们到目前为止已经横扫了整个系列赛。

I said I feel like we've swept the series so far.

Speaker 0

意思就是你们还没输过。

Meaning you haven't lost yet.

Speaker 1

没错。

Exactly.

Speaker 1

如果我们横扫了系列赛,那我们可能就没输过,然后我说,是的,我们确实赢得很轻松。

We're undefeated probably if we've swept the series and then I say, yeah we have been beating teams pretty soundly.

Speaker 1

所以那意味着比赛并不胶着,对吧?

So that means they are not close games, right?

Speaker 1

我们不是那种让人捏把汗的比赛。

We are not like nail biters.

Speaker 1

不是那种直到最后一刻才知道谁赢的紧张比赛。

They are not nail biters where you are not sure who will win until the very last moment.

Speaker 1

如果我们打得对方毫无还手之力,那就是大比分领先。

If we are beating them soundly, we are winning by a lot.

Speaker 0

好的。

All right.

Speaker 0

真的很不错。

Really good stuff.

Speaker 0

现在我真有动力去找一项运动,能让我,你知道,彻底碾压对手。

Now I feel so motivated to go out and find a sport that I can, you know, wipe Yes, the

Speaker 1

把对方打得落花流水。

beat someone soundly.

Speaker 0

有意思。

Funny.

Speaker 0

Aubrey,这又是一期值得听众们去听的节目。

Aubrey, another episode for our listeners to check out.

马上就去25.99看看。

Speaker 0

通过打赢这场仗来建立某人的信心。

Build someone's confidence by fighting this battle.

Speaker 1

对吧?

Okay?

Speaker 1

这就是我们教的内容,包括“毫无胜算”以及一些相关词汇。

And that's where we taught doesn't stand a chance and some related vocabulary.

Speaker 1

所以去看看吧。

So check that out.

Speaker 1

然后,记得点关注,这样你就能在商务英语那边听到这个系列的第二部分。

And then yes, hit follow so that you can hear part two of this series over on Business English.

Speaker 0

奥布里,我们今天该把听众们留在哪里呢?

Where should we leave our listeners today Aubrey?

Speaker 1

是的,这真的很有意思。

Yeah this is really interesting.

Speaker 1

我觉得这里最好的一个联系点就是,当你大胜某人的时候,不要炫耀。

I think one of the best connection thoughts here is about not bragging when you beat someone soundly.

Speaker 1

对吧?

Right?

Speaker 1

那感觉可不好。

That's not a good feeling.

Speaker 1

如果对方刚输了,他们心里已经不好受了。

If someone just lost, they already don't feel great about it.

Speaker 1

稍微提一下可以,但别太炫耀,你知道的,提一嘴就行,但别太过火。

And it's okay to a little bit maybe, you know, not brag, but like you can mention it, but you're not going to want to go too hard.

Speaker 1

到那个份上就有点残忍了。

It just at that point is cruel.

Speaker 1

你同意吗?

Wouldn't you agree?

Speaker 0

对,这点对建立关系来说真的很重要。

Yeah, that's a really good point for connection.

Speaker 0

这些短语是用于两个不在输家一方的人之间的,不是用于……

Mean these phrases are meant to be used between two people that are not on the losing party, not part of the

Speaker 1

输的一方,对吧?

losing Right?

Speaker 1

这些话其实不是对刚输的人说的。

They're not really said to the person who was just beat.

Speaker 1

你可能会在报纸的体育头条上看到这些,对吧?

You might hear these in newspaper sports headlines, right?

Speaker 1

或者像我们刚才说的,我们队赢了别人。但如果你和我下棋,你把我打得落花流水,你大概不会说“我真高兴我把你打得落花流水”吧。

Or like this role play we're talking about our team who beat someone, but if you and I play chess and you beat me soundly, you probably wouldn't say I'm so glad I wiped the floor with you.

Speaker 0

对,我们不想让人难堪。

Yeah, we don't want to rub it in.

Speaker 0

奥布里,这倒是个好主意,改天可以聊聊。

That would be a great idea, Aubrey, for another day.

Speaker 0

关于输不起的习语。

Expressions that talk about being a sore loser.

Speaker 0

怎么表达你输不起。

How to say you're being a sore loser.

Speaker 0

或者说,是输不起的赢家,这么说吧。

Or sorry, a sore winner, let's say.

Speaker 0

所以我们不想让人难堪。

So we don't want rub it in.

Speaker 0

不过话说回来,

But anyways,

Speaker 1

你不想让人难堪。

you don't want to rub it in.

Speaker 1

这个短语真的很不错。

That's a really good phrase there.

Speaker 1

它的意思就是,你不想让他们感觉更糟。

It means like you don't want to make them feel worse.

Speaker 0

没错。

Exactly.

Speaker 0

你理解得很对。

You got it.

Speaker 0

所以,朋友们,关键在于连接,我们下期再见。

So guys, it's all about connection, and we will see you on the next episode.

对吧,奥布里?
