嘿,米歇尔。
Hey, Michelle.
你今天怎么样?
How are you today?
嗨,奥布里。
Hi, Aubrey.
我挺好的。
I'm doing well.
你呢?
How are you?
非常好。
Excellent.
我有个问题想问你。
I have a question for you.
好的。
Sure.
如果你在课堂上没听懂什么,或者老师突然叫你回答问题而你还没准备好,你有没有试过把老师刚说过的话再重复一遍?
If ever you didn't understand something in class or maybe the teacher called on you and you weren't prepared, did you ever just sort of reiterate what the teacher had just said?
我完全干过这事儿。
I have totally done that.
对,当然,肯定干过。
No, yeah, for sure.
你就是那种,你就是会说,哦,对,我同意。
You just kind of you just kind of say, Oh, yeah, I agree.
然后你就说,想糊弄过去,这种情况是有的。
And this is and you just kind of say to try to play it off that can happen
当然。
for sure.
换句话说,好像你觉得你自己特别聪明。
Other words, it seems like you think you're so smart.
但现在回想起来,老师当时完全看穿了我们。
But now, in hindsight, the teacher totally saw through us.
挺有意思的。
It's funny.
今天的节目灵感来自我最近看的一个本地新闻节目。
Well, today's episode was inspired by a local news show that I was watching.
那个新闻主播犯了个小错误,对嘉宾说了类似“我要把你刚才说的话再复述一遍”这样的话。
And the news anchor sort of made a little bit of an error and said to a guest something like, I'm going to regurgitate what you just said.
哦,复述。
Oh, regurgitate.
我们怎么会那么说呢?
What do we say that?
那是个意外。
It's an accident.
那会不会……他们有没有……
It would Do they have...
另一个新闻主播有没有什么反应?其实没有。
Do the other news anchor have a a reaction or I do not really.
他们就直接带过去了,我知道我们做播客的时候也经常遇到这种情况。
They just kinda moved through it, which I know this happens to us a lot podcasting.
就是说了一个不是我们本意的词,而且你自己都没意识到,因为你脑子里已经在想下一句了。
Just use a word a different word than we meant, and you don't even know because you're sort of thinking of the next thing.
我有时候会在转录稿里发现这种情况。
I'll catch it sometimes in the transcripts.
我就会想,哦,真有意思。
I'm like, oh, funny.
这里本来应该是那个词。
That should have been this.
我们都会这样。
We all do it.
母语者也会这样。
Native speakers do this.
如果你们在外面也这样,那很正常。
If ever you guys out there do this, it's normal.
所以重要的是交流,而不是完美。
That's why it's connection, not perfection.
这种情况时有发生。
It happens.
确实如此。
It happens.
但我觉得这个话题挺有意思的,因为“regurgitate”这个词带有相当负面的含义。
But I was like, this is an interesting topic because regurgitate has quite a negative connotation.
还有一个更好的词,就是“reiterate”。
And there's another word that would be better, which is reiterate.
很可能那位新闻主播本来想说的是这个词。
Is likely what the news anchor meant to say.
所以我觉得今天分享这两个词的区别很有意思,以及为什么通常不会用“regurgitate”。
So I thought this would be interesting to share today these two different words and why you usually would not use regurgitate.
没错。
Exactly.
所以大家,在我们深入这个话题之前,想提醒你一下,无论你在哪里收听,记得订阅或关注。
So everyone, just we wanna remind you before we get further into this to hit subscribe or follow wherever you're listening.
还有,无论你在哪里收听,如果……
And also, please wherever you are listening, if it...
你可以在苹果播客上做这件事。
You could do this on Apple Podcast.
你也可以在YouTube上做。
You could do this on YouTube.
你甚至可以写下你对节目的感受,但我们非常希望得到评论。
You could even write how you feel about the show, but we would love for reviews.
我觉得苹果是最好的。
I think Apple is the best.
还有哪里可以
Where else can
留下评论呢,Aubrey?
we leave reviews, Aubrey?
Spotify、Castbox。
Spotify, Castbox.
对。
Yes.
给我们留个评论,打个分吧。
Leave us a review, a rating.
我们都会看的。
We read them.
我们很喜欢。
We love them.
所以无论你在哪里收听,都请留下评论。
So wherever you listen, leave a review.
是的,那些可能比YouTube更好。
Yeah, probably those better than YouTube.
YouTube上更多是评论,但还是在YouTube上给我们留言吧。
YouTube is more comments, but still, write to us on YouTube.
所以,非常感谢所有给我们留过评论的听众。
So, but thank you so much for any of those, any listeners who have reviewed us.
好,我们开始吧。
Alright, let's get into it.
首先,这两个词大致都表示“重复”,但它们的含义差别很大。
So for starters, so again, both of these words loosely mean to repeat, but the connotations are very different.
如果你理解了这个细微的差别,这对沟通很重要,因为你选择的词会影响对方如何理解你的意思。
So if you understand this subtle difference that's important for connection and your choice of words affect how the other person receives them.
完全正确。
Exactly right.
有可能对方会觉得,嗯,有点意思,说“反刍”,但他们可能没意识到,但很多听众可能注意到了,因为就是这样。
There is a chance that other person was sort of like, interesting, regurgitate, but they might not have clocked it, but a lot of people listening probably did because that's it.
每当我们说“反刍”的时候,我们都会联想到一些不太好的行为。
It's whenever we say regurgitate, we're kind of imagining like some sort of unpleasant behaviors.
是的,没错。
Yes, exactly.
那我们来看看它们的区别吧?
So should we break down the differences?
好,那我们开始吧。
Yeah, let's do it.
总的来说,首先,regurgitate这个词你很少会用,但reiterate我们在工作和日常对话中经常用,当我们想用另一种方式重复别人说过的话时,比如“让我再重申一下”,或者为了强调而重复。
So in general, off the top here, you're going to use regurgitate very rarely, but reiterate, we use a lot at work in daily conversations to when we say we're going to sort of repeat what someone has said in other words, like, me just reiterate that or for emphasis, we're repeating for emphasis.
我想重申你说过的话,因为我觉得那很重要。
I wanna reiterate what you said because I think it's so important.
对。
Yes.
没错。
Exactly.
那么……
So...
而regurgitate字面意思就是呕吐。
And regurgitate literally means to vomit.
所以……
So...
或者你也可以听到说‘吐出来’这种说法。
Or to puke, you might hear.
所以……
So...
这个……
This...
它经常用来表示重复别人说过的话。
It's often used to mean repeat what someone else said.
但它的含义更偏向负面。
But it takes on a more negative connotation.
它暗示你几乎是逐字逐句地重复别人说的话,
And it implies that you're just repeating what they said almost word to...
一字不差。
For word.
就好像你把话吞下去然后又……
Almost like you swallow it and you...
然后它又原封不动地冒出来了。
That it comes back up.
这就是那种不经大脑的重复。
It's this thoughtless repetition.
而且你可能根本没理解自己在说什么。
And you may not actually understand what you're saying.
所以,也许在开头那个课堂例子里,用“复述”比“改写”更合适。
So actually, maybe in the classroom example from the beginning, maybe it could be regurgitation rather than rewrite.
老师可能会说,
A teacher might say,
我觉得你只是把我的话原样复述了一遍。
I feel like you just regurgitated it.
如果老师这么说,那是不客气的,是一种批评。
If they say that is unkind, it is a criticism.
他的意思是,你只是把我说的原话又重复了一遍。
What they are saying is you just repeated back exactly what I said.
你根本没在思考。
You're not thinking about it.
作为老师,我不会这么说,因为我会意识到这个学生只是不知道还能说什么。
I don't I wouldn't say that as a teacher because I would recognize like this is a student who didn't know what else to say.
所以这个词的负面含义太强了,作为老师,我会选择放过,让他们保住面子。
So it still has such a negative connotation that as a teacher, I would just like let it go, let them save face.
我们来做个角色扮演,看看这种情况会是什么样子。
Let's do a little role play here to show how this might look.
我会说,我受不了那个网红。
I'm gonna say, I can't stand that influencer.
他没有任何原创内容。
He doesn't have any unique content.
我知道。
I know.
他只是把别人的想法复述一遍。
He just regurgitates other people's ideas.
这是一个
This is
很好的例子,你是在故意批评。
a perfect example where you are intending to criticize.
有人拿别人的片段,只是重新做了一遍,跟原来的想法太像了。
Someone is taking other clips and just remaking them too similarly to the original idea.
所以你故意用“照搬”这个词,来强调你觉得这是不好的。
So you're intentionally using the word regurgitate to emphasize that you think it's a bad thing.
对。
That's right.
没错。
That is right.
或者再来一个角色扮演。
Or here's another role play.
我不喜欢和她讨论政治。
I don't like discussing politics with her.
她的论点听起来不真实。
Her arguments don't sound authentic.
我同意。
I agree.
听起来她像是在复述网上看到的东西。
It sounds like she's regurgitating something she read online.
对,带有负面含义。
Yeah, negative connotation.
我希望她没听到这段对话。
I hope she doesn't overhear this conversation.
希望没有。
I hope not.
希望没有。
I hope not.
或者我可能会说,他只是在重复我之前说过的话。
Or I might say, he's just regurgitating what I already said earlier.
这确实让人烦,但你知道有句话怎么说。
That's annoying, but you know what they say.
模仿是最真诚的恭维。
Imitation is the highest form of flattery.
哦,我喜欢这句话。
Oh, I love that phrase.
这算是今天的额外收获吧。
This is sort of a bonus today.
而且这期节目讲这个讲得特别好。
And it's great episode about this.
其实可以点个关注。
Could, in fact, hit follow.
我们肯定会关注的。
We definitely will.
点个关注吧。
Hit follow.
我觉得我们应该把这个留到以后再聊,因为这里面能说的东西太多了。
I think we should just save this for another time because there's so much we could say with this.
是的,那是个
Yes, that's
很好的说法。
a great phrase.
对,我们以后会再提到它的。
So yeah, we'll bring that back later.
那我们现在就进入“reiterate”这个词吧,好吗?
And let's dive into reiterate now, right?
它的含义更正面一些,意思是重复某件事,但通常是为了让事情更清楚,或者更强调某一点,让别人更好地理解或意识到其重要性。
Much more positive connotation means repeating something, but usually making it clearer or emphasizing something more so others understand or realize the import.
所以它的语气更偏向中性到正面,而且经常用在正式或礼貌的对话中。
So it kinda has more of a neutral to a positive tone, and it's often used in professional or polite conversation.
比如在工作中、课堂上,或者做正式演讲、正式解释的时候。
So it could be work the classroom, giving a formal presentation, formal explanation.
而且它表明你实际上是在帮助听者理解。
And it suggests that you're actually helping the listener understand.
你不是逐字重复,而是突出具体信息,让它更清楚。
You are not repeating word for word, but you're highlighting specific information to make it clearer.
所以这是一个重要的区别。
So that's an important distinction.
对,没错。
Exactly, right.
我们来演几个角色扮演吧。
Let's do a couple role plays here.
你想先来一个吗?
Want to start us out for one?
好的,开始吧。
Sure, here we go.
我没听清。
I missed that.
你能再讲一遍你之前说的关于我们作业的事吗?
Can you reiterate what you said earlier about our homework assignment?
当然可以。
Sure.
我之前在解释,作业是分阶段交的,不是一次性全部交。
I was explaining that it's due in milestones, not all at once.
所以这挺有意思的。
So it's interesting.
很多时候,说“重复”和“重申”是可以互换的。
Often, it is interchangeable to say repeat or reiterate.
你可以说,你能重复一下你之前说的话吗?
You could say, can you repeat what you said earlier?
通常我们说“重申”的时候,是因为我们想强调或澄清某件事。
Often reiterate we're saying because like we said, we want to emphasize or clarify something.
我们不是让他们原封不动地再说一遍,而是希望他们换个说法来把事情说清楚。
We're asking them not to say it exactly how they said it, like to rephrase it order to clarify.
对,没错。
Right, exactly.
那再举一个例子。
So here's another one.
我有点跟不上这场辩论。
I'm having trouble following the debate.
哦,如果你需要的话,我可以把要点再讲一遍。
Oh, I can reiterate the main points if you want.
这正好,对吧?
This is perfect, right?
因为我不是……
Because I'm not...
如果说“我再重复一遍要点”,那几乎有点居高临下的感觉。
It almost would be condescending to say I kind of repeat the main Yeah.
像“复述”这种词,我们一般不会这么说,对吧?
Regurgitate, we wouldn't say that right?
用“reiterate”在这里很合适,因为我是说我会用我的理解重新表述一下,希望能帮助澄清。
Reiterate is perfect here because I'm saying I'll sort of like rephrase them with my understanding to help hopefully clarify.
没错。
Exactly.
或者再看一个例子。
Or here's another one.
经理重申了,我们必须在截止日期前把所有东西都交齐。
The manager reiterated that we need to have everything in by the deadline.
哇,她真的不想
Wow, she really doesn't want
让我们迟到。
us to be late.
对,所以她的意思是她告诉我们一次,然后又重申了一遍,强调这件事有多重要,确保我们都明白。
Yeah, so that means she let us know once and then reiterated it for emphasis to make sure we understood how important it was.
没错。
That's right.
好的。
All right.
那有没有一些近义词呢?
What about some similar words?
当然,我们之前讲过“repeat”。
Of course, we talked about repeat.
这是最常见的说法。
This is the most common.
意思就是再说一遍。
Just means to say something again.
通常就是完全按照你原来的说法再说一遍,对吧?
Usually exactly the way you said Right?
对,没错。
Yes, exactly.
所以这个非常常见。
So this is very common.
这是日常用语。
The everyday option.
没有强调,没有评判,可以逐字重复,也可以稍微换个说法。
There's no emphasis, no judgment, and it can be word for word or slightly rephrased.
这里有几个小情景对话。
So here are a couple little role plays.
抱歉,你能再说一遍吗?
Sorry, can you repeat that?
我没听清。
I didn't hear you.
对,我说的是我们八点见面,不是七点。
Yeah, I said we're meeting at eight not seven.
好的,明白了。
Okay, right.
或者……
Or...
在那里说“重申”其实挺奇怪的,对吧?
It would actually be strange to say reiterate there, right?
你只是没
You just didn't
听到。对,这是基本信息。
hear Right, it's basic information.
他们确实。
They exactly.
好,再来一个。
Okay, here's another one.
等等,再说一遍地址。
Wait, repeat the address again.
哦,是主街125号。
Oh, it's 125 Main Street.
同样的道理。
Same idea.
或者,我妈妈压力大的时候总是重复说事情。
Or, My mom always repeats things when she's stressed.
对,我妈妈也是。
Yeah, mine too.
我觉得这很正常。
I think it's only natural.
然后再说一遍。
And then go over.
这是一个很有趣的短语动词,非常地道自然。
This is a fun phrasal verb that's very native and natural.
它的意思是重复或复习某件事,确保别人理解了。
It means to repeat or review something to make sure it's understood.
这跟reiterate更接近。
This is more similar to reiterate.
是的,完全正确。
Yes, exactly.
对,也是中性的。
Yeah, also neutral.
意思是帮助别人更好地理解。
Implies helping someone understand better.
所以,你在复习或重新解释某件事,而且通常可能是逐步进行的。
So, and you're reviewing or explaining something again, and it often could be step by step.
所以非常适合用于像作业或指路这样的场景。
So really good for things like homework or directions.
比如,等等,你能再把计划讲一遍吗?
So for example, wait, can you go over the plan again?
当然可以。
Sure.
我们六点出发,然后路上停下来吃点东西。
We're leaving at six, then stopping for food on the way.
好的。
Okay.
所以就是那些步骤,对吧?
So those steps, right?
我们在复习某个东西。
We're reviewing something.
或者还有另一个例子。
Or here's another one.
我真的明白这些说明了。
I really get the directions.
没问题。
No problem.
我会跟你一起过一遍。
I'll go over them with you.
对,这在工作中经常发生。
So yeah, might happen often at work.
如果说明很复杂或者不清楚,这个就很合适。
If directions are really complicated or unclear, this might be perfect.
如果你说你不太清楚,他们就会说,哦,那我们一起来过一遍吧。
If you share that you're not clear, they say, oh, let's go over them together.
没错。
Exactly.
然后这个特别有意思。
And then this one is really fun.
是“parrot”。
It's parrot.
就像那种鸟,但是……
So just like the bird, but...
所以“parrot”就是像鹦鹉一样,不加思考、不理解地重复别人说的话。
So to parrot something is to repeat it exactly without thinking or understanding just like a parrot would.
所以这里……
So there...
这个语气有点负面,因为不是原创的想法。
This has more of a negative tone because it's not an original thought.
你只是在重复别人的话,而且这种用法带有批评的意味。
You're just repeating something, and it's used kind of in this critical way.
没错。
Exactly.
比如,他只会鹦鹉学舌,朋友说什么他就说什么。
So for example, he just parrots whatever his friends say.
然后他可能会说,是的,
Then he might say, yeah,
我觉得他并没有形成自己的观点。
I don't think he's formed I don't his think own he's formed his own opinion.
对,这绝对是批评性的。
Right, this is definitely critical.
我们是在说他们只是机械地重复别人的话,就像反刍一样。
We're saying that they're just repeating one for words similarly to regurgitate.
他们只是重复那些想法,而没有经过思考。
That they're just repeating the ideas without thinking about it.
或者我小表弟老是学我说话。
Or my little cousin keeps parroting everything I say.
小孩子就爱这样。对。
Kids love to do Yes.
小孩子经常这样。
Kids do that all the time.
好,那我们来做一次角色扮演吧。
So yeah, let's do a role play here.
我们是朋友,在讨论我们电视上看的政治辩论。
We're friends discussing a political debate we watched on TV.
我先开始。
I'll start us out.
你昨晚看那场辩论了吗?
Did you watch that debate last night?
哦,看了,但我不太满意。
Oh, I did, but I wasn't very impressed.
哦,感觉其中一个候选人整场都在重复那些套话。
Oh, It felt like one of the candidates was just regurgitating talking points the whole time.
没错。
Exactly.
而且每次我回答的时候,基本上就是在重复同样的观点。
And every time I answered, it was basically just repeating the same idea.
另一个人一直让他重申立场,但始终没有变得更清楚。
And the other person kept asking him to reiterate his position and it never really got clearer.
我也注意到了。
I noticed that too.
而且每次被追问,他就反复讲同一个点,而不是真正回应问题。
And whenever he got pushed, he'd just go over the same point again and again instead of actually responding.
感觉他就像在复述别人教他的话,而不是自己表达观点。
It's like he was parroting what he'd been told rather than speaking for himself.
希望他在下一场辩论中能表现得好一点。
Hopefully he steps up in the next debate.
他最好这样,不然很快就会失去选票。
He better or he's going to lose votes quickly.
这些词都用上的话,在这样一场对话里真的能行得通。
It It's all packed really could work that you use them all in a conversation like this.
对,有意思的是,这些词的隐含意义不一样。
Yeah, because interesting how the connotation is different.
用不同的词,批评的意味也不同。
There's more criticism depending on the word you use.
对,有意思。
Yeah, interesting.
所以我觉得你说的是,感觉其中一个候选人整场都在重复那些说辞。
So I think you said it felt like one of the candidates was just regurgitating talking points the whole time.
就是吸收进去……
So just taking in...
吸收进去,然后又原样吐出来。
Taking them in and just kind of vomiting them out.
没错。
Exactly.
也不完全是。
Not really.
不是字面意义上的每个人。
Not literally everyone.
对,这很地道,有意思的是字面意思是有些动物会这样,或者小孩,就像把食物吐出来,对吧?
Yeah, it's very idiomatic, which that's what's interesting is the literal meaning of this is some animals will do this or maybe children, but you're just like spitting up food, right?
所以这画面挺恶心的,带有负面含义。
And so it's this really gross image, this negative connotation.
所以说某人“ regurgitate ”一个想法,是非常批评的说法。
So that is very critical to say someone was regurgitating an idea.
而且确实会让人联想到那种恶心的画面。
And it does kind of bring up this like gross mental image.
所以如果你用这个词,其实挺少见的。
And so if you're using that, it is pretty rare.
但如果你用这个词,那意思就是非常严厉的批评。
But if you are, it's intended to be really critical.
对,绝对是。
Yeah, definitely.
你说基本上就是我刚才说的,他们一直在重复同一个观点。
You said basically I just was repeating, they were repeating the same idea.
对,这样用完全没问题。
And yeah, this works perfectly.
就是说他们没有提出任何新东西或创意。
You're just saying they weren't coming up with anything new or creative.
只是翻来覆去地说同样的话。
Just saying the same thing over and over.
然后你说,对。
And then you said, yeah.
而另一个人一直让他重申自己的立场,但始终没有变得更清楚。
And the other person kept asking him to reiterate his position and it never really got clearer.
所以他是在要求对方用不同的方式解释一下,稍微有点变化,或者把最重要的几点再讲一遍。
So he was asking to maybe explain it in different ways, slightly different, or just go over the most important things.
但这个人只是在重复,而不是在重新阐述。
But this person was just regurgitating, not reiterating.
没错。
Exactly.
他们是在逐字逐句地机械重复,这让人觉得他们并没有真正理解那个观点,或者没有明确的立场。
They were repeating something by rote word for word, which sort of made it seem like they didn't understand the idea or didn't really have a clear opinion.
而且他们也没能用有意义的方式重新表述。
And then they weren't able to paraphrase in a way that made sense.
有意思。
Interesting.
然后这个短语动词“go over”。
And then this phrasal verb go over.
我说,或者你说,每当他被追问的时候,他就一遍又一遍地重复同一个观点。
I said whenever he got or you said, and whenever he got pushed, he'd just go over the same point again and again.
所以这个,我们有几种不同的用法,比如我们一起过一遍确保大家都明白,或者也可以和重复差不多,一遍又一遍地过同一个东西。
So this, we use this a few different ways, whether we are going over things together to make sure we all understand or this would sort of be in the same as repeating, going over the same thing again and again.
对,没错。
Yes, exactly.
然后我们接着讲鹦鹉那个。
And then we move on to the parrot.
你说了,对。
You said, yeah.
就像他在鹦鹉学舌一样,重复别人告诉他的话,而不是自己表达。
It's like he was parroting what he'd been told rather than speaking for himself.
所以又是一个负面的语气,负面的含义,我知道他想为鹦鹉这个词做准备。
So another negative tone, negative connotation I know he wants to be prepared for parrot.
对吧?
Is Right?
确实,没错。
Definitely Exactly.
哦,这里的词汇真棒。
Oh, such great vocab here.
这对交流来说真的很重要,因为如果你在讨论辩论、同事或者某个只是重复同样观点的人,了解这些词的不同含义很重要,因为你可能不小心变得很粗鲁、很挑剔,甚至冒犯到别人。
And this is really important for connection because like this, if you're talking about a debate or coworkers or someone who is sort of just repeating the same ideas, it is important that you know the connotations of these different words because you could accidentally be really rude, really critical, offend someone.
所以了解这些词的不同含义很重要。
So it's important to know the different meanings of these.
是的,这里真的很有帮助。
Yeah, really, really helpful here.
如果你想看另一集有趣的节目,我们刚做了第2696集。
So if you want to check out another interesting episode, we just did twenty six ninety six.
那是关于“讨厌的作业”,如何用英语谈论它。

如果错过了那期,记得点关注,这样就能收到我们下一期节目,聊聊我们刚才说的那个有趣的短语。
Be sure to hit follow if you missed that one and so that you can catch our upcoming episode on that fun phrase we were talking about.
对,就像我们说的,这些词的意思差别真的很大。
And yeah, like we were saying, these do have very different meanings.
你不会经常用“regurgitate”这个词,而且如果你要用它,一定要确保你是想表达非常强烈的批评,负面的批评。
You're not going to use regurgitate very often and you want to make sure that you're intending some really intense criticism, negative criticism if you use it.
对,没错。
Yeah, exactly.
好的。
All right.
好了,今天就和奥布里聊到这里,大家下次见。
Well, for talking about this with me today, Aubrey, and we'll talk to you next time, everyone.
太棒了。
Awesome.
