Speaker 0

你最近怎么样?

How are you?

Speaker 1

你好。

Hello.

Speaker 1

你好。

Hello.

Speaker 1

我今天状态特别好。

I'm feeling great today.

Speaker 1

我们又回到约会这个话题了,就像上一期那样。

We are on the topic of dating again as we were in the last episode.

Speaker 1

不过上次,米歇尔,我们聊了点关于线上约会和线下约会结合的策略,对吧?

But last time, Michelle, we talked a little bit about the strategy, right, of combining online dating with in person dating.

Speaker 1

但今天,我们直接进入词汇部分。

But today, we're getting to the to the vocab words.

Speaker 1

是吗?

Is that right?

Speaker 0

对。

Mhmm.

Speaker 0

对。

Mhmm.

Speaker 0

是的。

Yeah.

Speaker 0

一些在美国约会时常用的关键词。

Some important vocab words for dating in The US.

Speaker 0

对。

Mhmm.

Speaker 0

对。

Mhmm.

Speaker 0

这肯定很有意思。

So this is definitely gonna be fun.

Speaker 0

上次我们只是泛泛地聊了聊在线约会,现在我们要来谈谈在英语里谈论约会时必须掌握的一些表达。

So last time, were just talking general, our thoughts mostly with online dating, and now we're gonna talk about phrases that you need to talk to have to be able to talk about dating in English.

Speaker 0

那第一个是什么?

So what's the first

Speaker 1

第一个呢,琳达?

one, Lindsay?

Speaker 1

第一个是‘AA制’。

The first one is to go dutch.

Speaker 1

在讲这个词之前,我先问你个哲学问题,米歇尔。

Now, I'm gonna ask you a philosophical question, Michelle, before we talk about what that means.

Speaker 1

你觉得和约会对象出去吃饭时,该不该平分账单?还是该男方付?女方付?或者根据每个人吃多少来决定?

So do you think that, you know, when you go out to a restaurant with a date, should you split the bill or should the man pay, should the woman pay, and should it be based on how much each person eats?

Speaker 1

你的看法是什么?

What's your philosophy?

Speaker 0

我觉得这个问题现在真的挺难办的。

I think this is really tough, especially lately.

Speaker 0

你知道吗,我觉得文化确实在变,确实如此。

You know, I think, like, definitely, the culture is changing and shifting and Mhmm.

Speaker 1

怎么个变法?

How's it changing?

Speaker 0

你是在说美国的文化吧。

So you're talking about American culture.

Speaker 0

我觉得女性并不总是希望被包办一切,以前男人付钱特别普遍,你知道的吧?

Like, I don't think that women, you know, always want to just be like I think it used to be very popular just like the man paid, you know, what you know?

Speaker 0

要是男人不付钱,那简直太糟糕了。

And if he didn't pay, it was terrible.

Speaker 0

我以前觉得,男人就该付钱。

I'm like, the man is supposed to pay.

Speaker 0

但现在我觉得,说实话,我已经很久没和新人约会过了。

But now I think, you know, I mean, I haven't gone on a date with a new person a very long time.

Speaker 0

不过我的感觉是,情况可能正在变化,女性也想表明:为什么非得男人付钱?

But my feeling is things are potentially changing where, you know, women also wanna, you know, show that, like like, why should the man pay?

Speaker 0

为什么一定要他付钱呢?

Why should he be the one paying?

Speaker 0

女人也可以付钱啊。

A woman can also pay.

Speaker 0

我不确定,但我觉得在某些方面,男人付钱还是根深蒂固的观念。

So I don't know, but it is still I do think in some ways it's still kind of ingrained that the man pays.

Speaker 0

就拿我和我丈夫来说,刚开始几次约会都是他付账,后来我们就慢慢开始AA,或者我主动请他喝杯咖啡什么的。

I mean, with my experience with my husband, he did pay for, like, the first several dates, and then I would start to, like, you know, we would start to split some things or I would offer or I would, you know, pick up a cup of coffee or something like that.

Speaker 0

嗯,是这样。

Like Okay.

Speaker 0

不过一开始确实挺传统的。

But I I have to say it was very traditional in the beginning.

Speaker 0

挺有意思的。

Interesting.

Speaker 1

所以这确实有点儿那样。

So that's kind of yeah.

Speaker 1

在美国文化里,我们现在正处于一个转变的过程中。

So in American culture, we're kind of in flux.

Speaker 1

我们可能正在慢慢转向AA制。

We may be transitioning a little bit to the the, you know, to going dutch.

Speaker 1

说的就是这个意思。

And that's what that means.

Speaker 1

对吧,米歇尔?

Right, Michelle?

Speaker 1

AA制就是平分账单。

To go dutch is to split the bill.

Speaker 1

对吧?

Right?

Speaker 1

这是个老说法了,我不太确定它到底从哪儿来的。

An old idiom, not sure where it comes from.

Speaker 1

嗯,大概是从荷兰来的吧。

Well, yeah, probably from The Netherlands.

Speaker 1

我不确定。

I don't know.

Speaker 1

但真的很有趣。

But really interesting.

Speaker 1

我的意思是,让男方付钱的问题在于,它默认男方收入更高,或者他该养着女方。

I mean, yeah, the problem with having the man pay is that it presumes that he makes more money or that he's taking care of the woman.

Speaker 1

显然,在美国文化里,人们对这个想法反应很强烈,很多人不认同,因为现在女性也都在工作。

Obviously, in American culture, there's a real visceral reaction to that, and people don't like that idea because women are in the working world now.

Speaker 1

她们自己赚钱。

They're making their own money.

Speaker 1

这是新一代,新时代了。

It's a new generation, a new time.

Speaker 1

对吧?

Right?

Speaker 1

已经不是1950年代了。

It's not the 1950s anymore.

Speaker 0

没错。

Exactly.

Speaker 0

正是如此。

Exactly.

Speaker 0

对了,你刚才已经提到下一个词了——账单。

So, yeah, you mentioned one of the next words already, the bill.

Speaker 0

账单、账目、结账单,这些说法其实都是一回事。

So the bill or the tab or the check, all of those mean the same thing.

Speaker 0

就是你该付多少钱的那张单子。

It's, you know, the presentation of what money you owe.

Speaker 1

对。

Right.

Speaker 1

就是这个单子。

The presentation.

Speaker 1

你这么说我很喜欢。

I like the way you said that.

Speaker 1

谢谢,就是这个账单。

Thank The presentation.

Speaker 1

通常就是一张纸,上面写着你该付多少钱。

It's a piece of paper usually of of how much you owe.

Speaker 1

今天我们要教你们的动词短语是‘pick up the tab’。

And we said the verb to use here, the phrasal verb actually for you guys today, is to pick up the tab.

Speaker 1

这是一种很随意的说法。

That's a casual way to say that.

Speaker 1

对吧,米歇尔?

Right, Michelle?

Speaker 0

就是付钱。

To pay.

Speaker 0

没错。

Yep.

Speaker 0

没错。

Yep.

Speaker 0

对。

Yep.

Speaker 0

你来付钱。

You're the one who pays.

Speaker 1

是的。

Yeah.

Speaker 1

我喜欢这个说法。

I love that.

Speaker 1

我喜欢这个说法。

I love that.

Speaker 1

还有一个约会时常用的表达是‘出去’。

And then another dating phrase is to get out.

Speaker 1

那是什么意思呢?

Now what does that mean?

Speaker 1

就是出去走走,多接触外面的人。

Do like, to get out there.

Speaker 0

对吧?

Right?

Speaker 0

就是这个意思。

That is Yeah.

Speaker 0

就是走进约会的世界。

To, like, go out into the world of dating.

Speaker 0

你可能会听到有人说,你得出去多认识人。

Like, oh, like, so you might hear somebody say, like, oh, you need like, get yourself out there.

Speaker 0

你知道的。

You know?

Speaker 0

比如去下载一些交友软件。

Like, go like, go on some apps.

Speaker 0

去见见别人。

Like, go meet some people.

Speaker 1

对。

Yeah.

Speaker 1

让自己多出去接触人,这也是另一种说法。

Get yourself or put yourself out there would be another one.

Speaker 1

对吧?

Right?

Speaker 0

没错。

True.

Speaker 0

没错。

True.

Speaker 0

没错。

True.

Speaker 0

出去走走,说白了就是多出门社交。

And to get out could just mean also to go out, basically.

Speaker 1

是的。

Yeah.

Speaker 1

正是如此。

Exactly.

Speaker 1

所以咱们得主动走出去,多参与社交。

So let's put yourself out there, get out there.

Speaker 1

如果有人抱怨说,很难遇到合适的人,你就可以劝他:你得更主动一点才行。

You know, if someone is saying, oh, I'm having a hard time meeting some some someone, the right person, you could say, hey, you gotta put yourself out there more.

Speaker 1

不过,米歇尔,我总觉得聊到约会这事,说的都是一些老生常谈。

Although, Michelle, I kinda feel like when I'm talking about dating, it's all just cliches.

Speaker 1

对。

Mhmm.

Speaker 0

是的。

Yeah.

Speaker 0

确实有很多老套的说法。

There's a lot of cliches.

Speaker 0

很多说法都挺陈词滥调的。

There are a lot of cliches.

Speaker 0

里面确实有不少老生常谈,哦,外面有点吵。

There are a lot of cliches in there, but Oh, city noise.

Speaker 0

城市里的噪音。

City noise.

Speaker 0

但你身在

But You're you're in

Speaker 1

纽约。

New York.

Speaker 1

为了让新听众了解情况,你们知道她人在纽约,偶尔会有些背景噪音。

So just in case our listeners are new, they know that you're in New York, and there's gonna be some noise once in a while.

Speaker 1

这些都是城市的声音。

Those are the noises of the city.

Speaker 1

对吧?

Right?

Speaker 0

城市和小镇都是这样。

The city and towns.

Speaker 0

是的。

Yeah.

Speaker 1

咱们说实话吧。

Let's be honest.

Speaker 1

英语说得不错,有时候反而让人挺郁闷的。

Being pretty good at English can sometimes be frustrating.

Speaker 1

别人能听懂你,你也听得懂别人,

People understand you.

Speaker 1

但你就是没法像在母语里那样自由表达自己。

You understand them, but you're still not expressing yourself the way you do in your native language.

Speaker 1

可能你在会议上不敢多说话,

Maybe you avoid speaking up in meetings.

Speaker 1

回答问题也总是简简单单几句,

Maybe you keep your answers short.

Speaker 1

你心里明明很有见解、很幽默、很有意思,却没让别人看到。

Maybe you don't show people how knowledgeable, funny, or interesting you really are.

Speaker 1

Speaker 0

最后一个词,是承诺。

And then the last one, the last word is commitment.

Speaker 0

对吧?

Right?

Speaker 0

没错。

Mhmm.

Speaker 0

那这到底是什么意思?

So what does that mean?

Speaker 1

这意味着当你更认真对待感情的时候。

So this means when you get more serious.

Speaker 1

当你更认真了,可能你订婚了,结婚了,或者只是稳定交往了。

To get more serious, maybe it's you maybe you get engaged, maybe you get married, or maybe you're just going steady.

Speaker 1

‘稳定交往’这个词听起来真有六十年代的味道。

That feels like a very nineteen sixties term, going steady.

Speaker 1

其实就是说,你不再跟别人约会了。

It just kinda means you're not really dating anyone

Speaker 0

只跟一个人。

else.

Speaker 0

对。

Right.

Speaker 0

没错。

Right.

Speaker 1

就只跟那个人。

Just that person.

Speaker 1

是的

Yeah.

Speaker 1

那么,米歇尔,你觉得这些术语对我们的听众讨论约会有帮助吗?

So, Michelle, what do you think about these terms for our listeners to talk about dating?

Speaker 0

对

Yeah.

Speaker 0

我觉得这些术语很有用。

I think they're very useful.

Speaker 0

它们还带出了不少有趣的文化话题,你可以和朋友聊聊,展开类似的讨论。

I think they also bring up some interesting cultural topics, you know, that you can talk about with your friends and have have these same kinds of discussions.

Speaker 0

没错。

Exactly.

Speaker 0

我觉得这确实很有帮助。

I think that can be very useful.

Speaker 1

是的

Yeah.

Speaker 1

当你和美国的母语者聊这些话题时,别忘了聊聊你们文化里的实际情况。

Make sure that, you know, when you're talking about these things, let's say with a native speaker in The US, open up what it's like in your culture.

Speaker 1

介绍一下你们的文化。

Introduce your culture.

Speaker 1

把你的背景、经历和文化分享给他们,因为他们真的感兴趣。

Share pieces of yourself, your history, your culture with the person because they wanna know.

Speaker 1

在中国或者日本,AA制普遍吗?

Is it common in China or Japan to go dutch?

Speaker 1

他们就是想了解这些事。

They wanna know about those things.

Speaker 1

所以大家,把这些都分享出来吧。

So guys, share those things.

Speaker 1

明白吗?

Alright?

Speaker 0

太棒了。

Love it.

Speaker 0

是的。

Yes.
