Speaker 0

Michelle, Thanksgiving.

Speaker 0

Oh my gosh.

Speaker 0

Did you have a good one?

Speaker 1

I did.

Speaker 1

Did you?

Speaker 0

I had a great one.

Speaker 0

As usual, I ate too much food.

Speaker 0

I put on my turkey pants, and I took a nap.

Speaker 1

That's good.

Speaker 1

That's good.

Speaker 0

Very typical American culture.

Speaker 0

Right?

Speaker 0

Turkey pants, what does that mean?

Speaker 1

The stretchy pants that you wear for eating lots of food.

Speaker 0

没错。

Exactly.

Speaker 0

What's your favorite Thanksgiving dessert, Michelle?

Speaker 1

I'll go with the pie.

Speaker 1

I'll go with, like, a apple pie or I'm not much in I'm not much of a pumpkin pie person, but I do like things with sweet potatoes.

Speaker 1

So I don't know if you would call it a dessert, but some something that consists of sweet potatoes and marshmallows.

Speaker 1

I like that stuff.

Speaker 0

Oh, yum.

Speaker 0

That's like a that's a that's a side, but it's so packaged.

Speaker 1

对。

Yeah.

Speaker 1

It's more of a side.

Speaker 0

What about you, Lindsay?

Speaker 0

是的。

Yeah.

Speaker 0

I love the apple pie.

Speaker 0

I think that's gotta be it.

Speaker 0

Especially when it's really sweet and the apples are sweet.

Speaker 0

You know?

Speaker 0

They're tart.

Speaker 0

They're just, like, really, really perfect.

Speaker 0

A little ice cream on the side, maybe some Cool Whip.

Speaker 0

It's so good.

Speaker 0

That is the best.

Speaker 0

是的。

Yeah.

Speaker 0

And then I'm happy all day.

Speaker 0

是的

Yep.

Speaker 0

That's what it's all about.

Speaker 0

Turkey, I feel very neutral about.

Speaker 0

Me too.

Speaker 0

Very ambivalent.

Speaker 1

Me too.

Speaker 1

Very, very much so.

Speaker 0

对。

Yeah.

Speaker 0

Well, how do you mhmm.

Speaker 0

Michelle, how do you feel about Black Friday, the common shopping day after What do you think?

Speaker 0

Do you like that as much as the apple pie?

Speaker 0

No.

Speaker 0

I I'm I'm not

Speaker 1

you know, it's for me whenever there's any big sale day, it just gives me anxiety because Yeah.

Speaker 1

I don't think I don't plan things ahead of time.

Speaker 1

I don't think ahead of time, like, oh, what do I want?

Speaker 1

It just kinda sneaks up on me.

Speaker 1

So it could be that or, like, they have, like, that Amazon Prime Day.

Speaker 1

And it's, like, all of a sudden, it's here, and I didn't think about what I wanted.

Speaker 1

And now I feel like if I don't get something, then I'm gonna be losing all my money because I'll like and and then I just, like, get very, I don't know, very intense about it.

Speaker 1

And I'm like and then I end up just saying, forget it.

Speaker 1

I'm not buying anything.

Speaker 0

Oh my gosh, Michelle.

Speaker 0

Too much thinking.

Speaker 1

是的

Yeah.

Speaker 1

没错

Exactly.

Speaker 1

So I'll, like, start looking around.

Speaker 1

I'm like, oh, do I need this?

Speaker 1

I don't know.

Speaker 1

I wasn't I didn't need it before, but it's on sale.

Speaker 1

You know?

Speaker 1

So I usually don't really partake in in the sales.

Speaker 1

What about you, Lindsay?

Speaker 0

No.

Speaker 0

I usually avoid I mean, if I'm gonna do it, I'll do it online.

Speaker 0

I definitely will not go into a store on Black Friday.

Speaker 0

Although, over the years, like, online shopping has become so much more popular, right, for Black Friday.

Speaker 0

I would say probably most Black Friday shopping happens online now.

Speaker 0

是的。

Yeah.

Speaker 0

So that's fine.

Speaker 0

But I would have to really, really know.

Speaker 0

The thing my problem is I'm usually not organized for Christmas shopping by Black Friday.

Speaker 0

That's a whole month before.

Speaker 0

是的。

Yeah.

Speaker 0

I don't have time.

Speaker 0

I'm I'm never gonna be have a shopping list by then.

Speaker 0

It's just not gonna happen.

Speaker 0

I'm not that organized.

Speaker 1

是的。

Yeah.

Speaker 1

But people are so intense about Black Friday.

Speaker 1

I mean, guys, you must have seen, like, videos about The US and the crowds and things like that.

Speaker 1

It's it's really not something that I wanna be too involved with.

Speaker 0

是的。

Yeah.

Speaker 0

And, I mean, I wonder if other cultures I'm sure they have certain days.

Speaker 0

Guys, let us know about your culture.

Speaker 0

We wanna know.

Speaker 0

Are there certain days in the calendar that are big shopping days?

Speaker 0

And, you know, we've seen crazy things happen over the years, like people getting trampled in stores.

Speaker 0

Right, Michelle?

Speaker 1

对。

Mhmm.

Speaker 0

You know, in, like, Walmart or different stores because there are just so many people.

Speaker 1

没错。

Right.

Speaker 1

Right.

Speaker 0

I think I think something like that happened around the recession in 2008.

Speaker 0

Think I remember reading about that.

Speaker 0

It's so crazy.

Speaker 0

So, Michelle, any strategies to navigate Black Friday if our listeners do decide to to indulge in the shopping?

Speaker 1

策略?

Oh, any strategies?

Speaker 1

I'm not so good on it myself, but I would say I would say, like I mean, one thing that I wanna remind myself is, like, to kinda know what you're looking for.

Speaker 1

Like because if you're just lost, you know, it can get a little bit intense.

Speaker 1

But if you know, like, I need like, for example, I just got a new dishwasher.

Speaker 1

That's a whole story in itself.

Speaker 1

Oh, But I just got a new dishwasher.

Speaker 1

So if I knew ahead of time, like, oh, I'm gonna need a new dishwasher, like, and Black Friday is coming up, then I would start, like, looking around.

Speaker 1

Like, what do I want?

Speaker 1

Like, what you know, it's a good time for appliances too.

Speaker 1

Or if I want a new phone, anything like that.

Speaker 1

Then there's just the fun stuff, like clothes and whatever.

Speaker 1

So just I I think be prepared to kinda know a little bit what you're looking for.

Speaker 1

That's my tip for myself.

Speaker 1

And what else do you think, Lindsay?

Speaker 1

Well, I think you're right.

Speaker 0

I'm gonna tag on to that, Michelle.

Speaker 0

I think that having a list and sticking to your list.

Speaker 0

Because, you know, when things are cheaper, we always think, oh, I'll just throw it in my cart.

Speaker 0

It's so cheap.

Speaker 0

It's like the dollar store effect.

Speaker 0

Right?

Speaker 0

You know the dollar store effect.

Speaker 0

If you go to the dollar store, everything's a dollar, and so you think you need things, but you actually don't need those things.

Speaker 0

So you end up coming home.

Speaker 0

You spend $20 on 20 items that you don't need.

Speaker 0

没错。

I mean Right.

Speaker 1

Exactly.

Speaker 1

So being prepared is super important.

Speaker 1

So that would be my biggest tip.

Speaker 0

是的。

Yeah.

Speaker 0

I mean, American culture is just all about commercialization, and maybe that's gonna change over the years.

Speaker 0

You know?

Speaker 0

I think that our culture's growing up.

Speaker 0

It's learning.

Speaker 0

It's it's figuring itself out.

Speaker 0

It's so young compared to European cultures and Asian cultures.

Speaker 0

Right, Michelle?

Speaker 0

Our culture?

Speaker 1

For sure.

Speaker 1

没错。

For sure.

Speaker 1

So it will be interesting to see where Black Friday goes.

Speaker 0

It really will.

Speaker 0

Well, Michelle, thanks for hanging out today.

Speaker 0

And, guys, if you are going out for Black Friday, be careful.

Speaker 0

Wear a helmet.

Speaker 0

不。

No.

Speaker 0

是的。

Yes.

Speaker 0

没错。

Exactly.

Speaker 0

I love it.
