This is Adam. And today, we're gonna be covering part two of our Camp Con series. So a couple weeks ago, we released Camp Con episode one. This is where we went to Government Camp, Oregon, and rented a house for five days and just played tons of board games. So we will just be covering the rest of the games that we played for that weekend, the time that we spent there Friday Friday, Saturday, and Sunday morning before we had to check out and catch our flights or drive back home.

This is the longest that I think we've ever been from when we did one of these cons to when we recorded about it. So I'm hoping that my memory we may get some things wrong here. We'll see. But I think, I think lots of fun things to cover. We started out Friday morning with another vintage game.

So I'm only gonna mention it briefly, but we will be covering that in more detail on next week's vintage game episodes. That was Solar Quest. This is a game that Chris had picked up recently. Adam had mentioned on a previous episode, and we got a chance to play it together. We're not gonna talk about it today other than to say I think it's gonna be a more interesting discussion than you would think about a game that came out in the early eighties.

So next, we played Tycoon India 1981, which is the second play of that, and we had already talked about that on the last episode. So if you didn't listen to the first one, you wanna hear more about that game, go check it out. So let's get into the games that were kinda new for the weekend for us. Not a lot of like brand new games. A lot of these are games that we played before, but some fun revisits to these, I think.

And the first one was Obsession. Obsession is the classic game of throwing up a party in Victorian England and trying to get the trying to get the most prestige and build up your house so that you can attract the you have a a courtship with the young, wealthy couple and try to get them to join your family. Obsession.

Yeah. So obsession. And I think it's the the Fairchilds and the Rochester's and the some very high class couples. Right? Are they from The States?

No. Of course not. That's gross. This is a game Chris loves tons and tons and tons, and he brought it out to us and explained, went over the rules again, and it was great. I don't think I'd ever played this one in person, or I feel like I did play this one in person one other time, but it was fun to revisit and see the nuances of it in person.

I played it on board game arena. It's not the same. You're just I I'm just clicking through. What's this card? What do I do here?

But every card here has some little character on it, some little story that goes with them, has some flavor text. So this guy, he he doesn't want any servants to help him go do his thing. So he refuses to have any helpers go along. So maybe that's advantageous for you. Or this person need is very high maintenance.

So they need, like, two or three helpers, servants to go along with that. I don't wanna say servants. Is that, like, derogatory? Call them servants. I don't know what they are.

Anyway, your meeple different colored meeples you're sending out with these different characters to get their benefits. I had a great time playing this one, revisiting obsession. I would happily play this one. Again, tons of theme cooked into this one.

Well, this was a lot of fun playing obsession. I always have a lot of fun playing obsession, but this was actually a special play. And the reason is because it gave me the opportunity to get one of the games off of my shelf of opportunity, and that was a Shame. No. No opportunity, my friend.

And that is the characters expansion. It's the first time I played with the characters expansion, which I backed on crowdfunding and got it was actually quite some time ago, but this is the first time I'd actually gotten that to the table. And it is a hoot. So there's a few things that this adds to the game. One thing that gets changed in this version of it is prestige family members.

So in addition to drafting starting guests and drafting starting servants, you also get to draft one advanced family member. So what it does is give you an extra benefit that you wouldn't normally have with that family member, but you can't have one family member that is shared amongst the various people. So let me let me explain what I mean by that. So if I choose the the patriarch of the family to be my prestige family member, Tim can't do that, and Adam can't do that. They have to pick the son or the daughter or the wife or the the aunt, you know, whatever the other others are.

And so it lets you boost one of those family members, and that was kinda cool. They also did something that I don't know why this wasn't done sooner, but I was so pleased. They upgraded the may I forget the the name of the male Fairchild heir. Nobody ever wanted him before because all he did was give you three prestige, and so everybody always went with the daughter. And so the benefit here is they added money and prestige to the male fairchild, and so he's a much more attractive option now.

There's an actual decision to be made in courting the female or the male fairchild because they both provide you with some really cool benefits. But the big thing that you add in the characters expansion is the characters, and they were goofy fun. So there's three different changes. Actually, four, I guess. So three characters.

One of them is the, eccentric dowager countess who lives in the neighborhood. She has weird foreign visitors that have come to stay with her, and you can bring you can court them and bring them over to your home. Now they love parties, and they bring some real prestige with them, but they're expensive because they're used to living in the finest courts in Europe. So that's one way that you can change up your game. You can get some prestige guests by going to visit the Dowager Countess.

There is the constable. Now the constable, you can bring to your house, and what they'll do is they will let you clear out your deck of all those undesirable characters that give you negative benefits. Now in keeping with the theme of this game, I mean, theme is everything in obsession, and they brought theme into every little piece of this. The only people that you cannot use the constable against is the American heiresses. The American heiresses usually bring you lots of money, but they bring you negative prestige.

And the way it was described in the instructions was you can't really have the constable coming in and roughing up expensive fancy guests. And so you can do that with the low class people. You can't do it with you can't do it with the Americans because they're out of towners.

Lots of drama there. Lots of drama.

Lots of drama. Lots Is of the vicar. And what the vicar does is let you manipulate your hand of goal cards a little bit more. And the theming there is that you go visit the vicar and talk about what your life goals are. You get it's basically your therapy session.

And so it lets you discard goal cards. It lets you take new goal cards. And whenever, goal card gets discarded by one by one person, by one player, it goes into the it goes into the pile, and the vicar can then share, you know, share that with another player. So lots of neat things you can do to help churn things like your cards and get better guests and to get rid of some of those negative benefits. The one other thing, the fourth thing that adds is the second hand servants.

Normally, your servants are buttoned down, sharp dressed people, and they know what they're doing. But there's like a temp agency in town now. And if you need a servant really quickly, you can get one, but they're gonna potentially create some issues because they're not very good at their jobs. You could tell these these folks because they have their hair is all disheveled or their pant leg is rolled up or, you know, they they look kinda funny in the meeples. They even made the meeples look unprofessional.

Quick service, but it comes with a bit of a price, and it comes with a bit of a negative benefit. So lots of cool things going on there with the character's expansion. I was so happy to play that.

This was my first time playing obsession in person, and it was much more enjoyable than any other play I've had of it. Even, you know, know it's on board game arena and async, you know, that's just not quite as much fun. You're not getting to really tell the story with the other players around the table, but we even played this on tabletop simulator when we first reviewed it, you know, a couple years back and playing it on the table, first of all, it looks much more beautiful than I ever expected it to. Lots of color, a nice big production to it. It just looks kind of fancy.

And I had a great time, Super fun play. It was fun revisiting this and certainly fun revisiting it in person. It you know, it is a game that is like long downtime between turns because every player is kinda throwing an event and they've gotta they they gotta, you know, put all the things together and tell the story. But it's it's it's one of those games where it's okay because it's fun hearing the story. And especially if people are, like, getting into it and kinda give it a little flavor as to why the, you know, why they're throwing a garden party with these two these two characters and kinda given given a little story to it.

It's it's very fun. I really liked it. I like the characters expansion a lot. I think I liked everything that it added. The second hand guests, I think it's a second chance guests, like or a second chance help or whatever, those servants.

I don't think any of us use them or if we did, we didn't use them very effectively. But felt like that that piece of it, you know what we were talking about when we were playing it, is that idea is that you can get these, they don't go all the way to like the fully used section of your board, like normally when you recruit a servant, right? They go into the middle section, you can potentially get them the next round. You'll get access to them the next round. So the goal is that you're getting kind of weaker servants, they're not as effective, They they give you some negative, but you're gonna if you really need to set yourself up for the next round, you've got a chance to do it.

But they felt like for the negative, they just they were still a little bit too slow. Like, if you could recruit them to use in the current turn, that would have been really cool. And I think I would have taken advantage of them a few times during the game. But I'm sure there's opportunities to to to use them, but I thought that didn't quite work for me. But I did use all the other characters at least once during the game, and each one of them felt like they kinda gave me a fresh option to try.

They gave me a little bit of a boost to my game when it was needed. And I had a really fun time playing Obsession. So a game that I've always been a little bit mediocre on, a rare case where I think playing this in person made a big difference to me versus playing it on a digital format. And I would be happy to play this again in person again. In fact, one of my local friends just this week offered if if we could play it soon.

So I I think I will be getting this played again soon, I would be happy to do that. So, yeah, obsession with the characters expansion was a good time.

Up next, Chris brought his giant box of Martian excellence terraforming Mars. We busted that out. One of the classics. This is one that we've all been playing, I think, since we met each other. This is one I had played.

It was one of my OG newer hobby board games starting in, I think, 2019 or 2020. I got this one and and played it hundreds of times. Sitting at home during COVID wasn't anything else to do, so we just played Terraforming Mars all day long. So I had fun revisiting this one. I love this euro game with the map full of interaction, swiping somebody's gardens that they put out their tree forest or whatever, putting a city by that so you can gain the points or dropping a nuke on somebody else's valuable real estate there to give them fewer points for the in game scoring.

Tons of fun playing Terraforming Mars. I think we all ended up within four or five points of each other at the at the end of the game.

Yeah. This game is always a good time and especially fun playing with a group like ours where everybody knows the game really well. We're all pretty familiar with the cards. We all know if somebody starts collecting up Jupiter tags that that's you gotta watch out for them in their Jupiter strategy, which happened to be me this time. Unfortunately, it did not get me the win.

We played with the big big box set, which I have, and this is probably the best example I can think of of where a big production makes a big difference in the game. Now, Adam, I know that you've said before that you really like playing with the base version with the tiles. I love playing with this version because it puts you right there on Mars with these beautiful three d printed hexes. They look great.

They they basically bring the whole thing to life. It actually convinced me to back the similar version of ArcNova.

So anyway but that's beside the point. I think the production of this is worlds apart from the base version, And I think the best argument I can think of for why sometimes big production is just the way to go in one of these games.

Yeah. What is what else there is there to say about Terraforming Mars? We played it a ton. I love playing it with you guys. Great game.

Super competitive. And Chris, what we can say about Arc Nova is when you get that three d printed box of goodness for Arc Nova, we're gonna make that BGH T Con near you so that we can play it together because I wanna try that. I did not back that. I think it was a little bit over the top, but I suspect it's gonna be a bit of a a little bit of a fiddle, mess trying to play with those big components, putting fences around the properties and all that stuff, but I I don't care. I wanna try it at least one time.

I'd say no more of a fiddle than terraforming Mars is, and nobody complains about that. So except Adam. Adam probably will complain about it because he doesn't even like Ark Nova to begin with. So you he might not be too thrilled about it.

Yeah. But so we so not a lot to talk about on Friday because a lot of the games we're gonna save for another episode or we've already talked about. But starting in on Saturday morning, we had a whole bunch of fun on the table. Maybe this was potentially one of the best days of gaming I've ever had as far as every single game on this list was a blast to play. We kicked it off with one of our classic hits.

Again, we've talked about a lot. Pan Am on the table first thing in the morning. I mentioned last week how much I love learning or playing a new a game over coffee. I didn't have to learn this one, but wow, what a great start to the day.

Yes, indeed. It was especially successful play of Pan Am because we got to finish the game. There was no early pack ups. Nobody decided to put this one in the box before it ended. Pan Am, this was an interesting game because, first of all, Chris had this ability that let him look ahead at the next event, and that's important because you know the value of Pan Am stock.

Is it gonna go down? Is it gonna go up? Obviously, if it's gonna go up, you're probably gonna buy this round and and, you know, not hold on to your money. But I think Chris took a peek, and he saw that the stock price was gonna go down of Pan Am. So he saved all of his cash, and it was by that time, I think Tim and I had already, you know, been forced to buy or not.

So Chris with the big move there was able to see what was gonna happen. And then on the final event, I'd never seen this event either, Pan Am sold or went out of business, or I forget what the event said exactly, but the stock price went all the way up to 10 and you were able to sell all your routes back to Pan Am. So a whole ton of money, total income for all the players, but with a ridiculously high stock price of 10, which usually I think it starts at like, 3 or something and and can go all the way up to 10. I don't know if I've ever seen it at 10, but by that point in the game, even though I had a couple of the cards that let me get free stocks at the end, I was nowhere close to catching up to these other two guys in Pan Am. Great game.

Yeah. I'm just gonna piggyback on what you just said, Adam, because I think that those event cards were really kind of the story of this game, and I think the most interesting thing to talk about. Like you said, I had the ability to look ahead and see what the next event was going to be. Now almost universally, the price goes up over time. It does kind of falter a little bit, you know, every now and then.

But in this game, it was the first time I think I had seen this card as well where the price dropped precipitously, and this was probably during World War two maybe. I I don't remember the exact circumstances around it, but it was very unusual. And so you guys both bought stock and you knew I had looked at it and I said, I'm gonna hold off and and wait. And so those cards made such a difference. And the one you mentioned at the end, Adam, I think that was the the president, the guy who founded the airline retired.

Again, we played that, you know, as many times as we've done Pan Am, none of us had ever seen those cards before. And that made a huge difference. It switched the game up, and it it created a nice fun surprise. Now if you're somebody who plays this game all the time, you probably has seen these cards more frequently. And so we were actually thinking at at one point, you know, it would be nice if they had an expansion deck, which they'll never have because, you know, nobody's designed, nobody's working on this game anymore.

But those event cards really do add a lot to this game, Pan Am.

a game we haven't had on the table since Long Beach together. That was, like, three years ago or something like that. And we just played the straight game. No expansions on this one. I don't have a whole lot to say here.

I just talked about Barrage on another episode recently other than, as always, the game is frustrating, and I still love it. It's a very cool game. Love seeing the board presence develop when you're playing on the table with all these dams getting built up all over the place. You guy this this I guess the one thing I'll say about this play is that the first half of the game, Adam and Chris kinda fought with each other on the left side of the board and were building on top of each other. And I just had, like, full free reign of the right side of the board until about the fourth round, and then people are like, let's start dropping some stuff up there and and take take all Tim's stuff away.

Yeah. Same here. The only thing I'll add, and this is not new. We've said this before, but this play was a reminder to me that this game suffers from the potential for a runaway winner or a runaway loser. And and still, love this game.

So next up, we played Distilled, and we we're finally get gonna get to talk about this. We, of course, had Dave Beck, the designer Distilled on the show a couple weeks ago. And I had mentioned earlier in the show that we played with the expansions recently with the cask strength. It's a African Middle East expansion, and then we didn't talk about it for a couple of weeks. So we're finally gonna get a chance to touch on that a little bit today.

See, it was great seeing this one again in person distilled. I had really only played this one. I played it once in person with you guys, and I hung in there. I was okay. And then I'd since played it on board game arena, And I just kinda feel like I have no chance, especially when Chris is playing.

He's a shark at this one, one of his favorite games. So this one, the Middle East expansion, which we kinda all forced ourselves to use these recipes, they all call for aging the spirits that you're making, which is something, again, I wasn't too experienced with. So it was nice to be forced to explore a different part of the game. And I had a lot of fun.

Well, I was thrilled to play the expansion content with you guys because we had not done that before, and it was only the second chance I had to play with the expansion content. In the first time I was playing with my family, and they they they weren't as big a fans of this game as I am. So this is the first time I got a chance to play the expansion content with people who are actually digging the game along with me. So the cask strength, enjoyed a few of the pieces that it added. One thing is, some new cards.

And there's usually some kind of like a a real world type of scenario around it like hurricanes in the in South America. And so anything from The Americas is gonna become more expensive.

You know? So the things like that. I thought that was a lot of fun. Also added in, I think, a really nice, very minor rules change, but I thought it was impactful to the game, and that was allowing you to sell aged spirits right away. The the kind of the concept there being that you're selling the entire barrel of whatever it is to a collector, and then they age it on their own. So clearly, you're not going to get the same benefit that you'd get from the the aging and all of those flavor cards, but it does give you the chance to sell a spirit right away even if it's an aged spirit, which before you couldn't do. You basically were stuck aging that one, and then you had to get any money you needed for the next round to buy stuff.

You had to get by holding tastings and giving up points, and nobody likes doing that. And so the African Middle East, you talked about that a little bit, Adam. I thought that was really cool. Mhmm. I so okay. I wanna talk about the cask strength expansion first in that dynamic market. I thought that was fascinating. It told a little story about the game, but also made me more motivated to distill something this round that I maybe was gonna go for something else because the ingredients I needed were a little bit less expensive or the ingredients I wanted for something else would have been too expensive.

That was clever. So I thought that was a fun little piece of the puzzle, didn't change the game much, but added just enough to make me feel like I had something else to be thinking about. I did really like that you could sell aged spirit right away. I think that's a perfectly good rule. You know, if it had existed in the base box, that would've been awesome.

We've played once before, I have played once before with a recipe set that only allows you to sell aged spirits. Both times I played that I kind of missed the opportunity to sell some cheaper, like non aged spirits and get things moving a little bit quicker. So I don't think I would intentionally pick one of those recipe sets again in the future. And then I think we made one other mistake when we set up and that is that we all wanted to take advantage of the new characters the African Middle East expansion, which meant that we all had Africa or Middle East characters, that meant we were all going for the same types of bottles or going for the same goals and things like that. And so there's a little bit less of a dynamic like motivation for what you're trying to get, which I think is it's more fun when everybody's kind of got their own special country that they're trying to focus on.

So, all in, really fun, not a big change on these two expansions, but a great play of distilled. I really enjoy playing this on the table. It's very fun. And I have seen some plays of this game go a little bit long, but I think it's usually newer players.

Don't remember all the things that happened in the game, but I remember having a fun time playing around with some of these strategies. I think I went really heavy Benny Jazzerit on this one, and I was trying to combo a of cards together, and I was. And it didn't end up working out for me. I I know you guys, were were in close competition for the win, but I still had a blast playing it and trying a new new, strategy with it. But, yeah, Duned Imperium,

a hit. Duned Imperium uprising, I don't think it was that close competition. Chris kinda owned this one from the latter stages on. I think he had a pretty dominant victory, three, four points ahead of everybody. I try to hang in there.

I like uprising here because the the spaces are all different. So it it takes me a little extra time to figure out what I wanna do. So I have to take a few extra seconds to think every turn and figure out what I wanna do.

We've spent so many words on do an imperium that I feel like the only thing left to talk about is what's the best way to play this? And we always get into that a little bit. Like, what's the best combination of and I think I've said this before, but I really don't think you can go wrong. I think that all the versions of this game are outstanding. The only well, gonna go out on a limb here and say the only way you can go wrong is by just playing Dune Imperium base game.

I think that those Sardikar commanders just added a little bit too much new rules overhead in a way that I didn't find particularly fun.

I think there was also new leaders in bloodlines, which I did like. I like having lots of, you know, lots of options in terms of a leader, but the Sardikar commanders, I could definitely live without. So I guess I'll say the only ways you can go wrong is playing base game all by itself or playing with the Sardikar commanders. Other than that, there is no losing when you're playing this amazing game, Dune Imperium Uprising.

Yeah. I hate to say it, but I agree with you guys. After a few plays with the Sardikar commanders, I that's the only piece of bloodlines that I don't love because I do really like the new tech that gets added. And then, of course, that's probably where Uprising would get tired after a lot of plays is that, you you know, you just don't have as many characters to play with. And so then it's fun to have the variety in it.

You you kinda bid on some of this stuff or you you price your own tiles. You try to price them just right, you know, to protect maybe one of them, and then you want people to sorta overpay for another one. So you get the money if they overpay for it, they pay for it. And then you can put that towards something else.

And then turn order matters. Your turn order rotates around the table, so turn order is a big deal. But if you're going second or third, maybe somebody buys your tiles before it's your turn to purchase so you have a little extra cash in hand. So I liked kinda using that to try to use that to my advantage.

It flies by, but it's got some real cool decisions to make. And you have that track where you're gonna see for each round what's gonna score, and so you have to make sure you're getting the right things at the right time. And and it's it's so simple in that sense, but it was so engaging. And I really did enjoy this one in particular because it was a very low investment game.

So we had one we had time for one final game before we had to head down the mountain and get to the airport. And the game we picked was a game we have not played together, I think since Long Beach, maybe. But anyway, always great. We played Blood Rage. And we, this must be the expansion episode because we did play with an expansion that we barely played with before I have.

And that, what's it called? The Gods of Asgard expansion, believe. Gods of Asgard. Wow. What can I say?

This year, this was sitting at like 15 on my top 40 list. What was wrong with it? I just needed to get it back on the table again. It was such a great play, so much fun. Probably back in my top five at this point.

I I need to get this played more. I had a blast with this. The the gods of Asgard expansion is one that I played once before with Chris, I think, like years ago, like seven years ago. And then we tried it in Long Beach, but everyone kept forgetting the rules. Because the rule is the way the Gods of Asgard expansion works, if you haven't played this, but you played regular Blood Rage, is that there are two random Gods that are placed in territories at the start of the game.

And the Gods each have a different power that somehow interacts with the territory. Like one of the gods that was in this one, if you nobody could die in that territory. So somebody could still win a conflict, but all the troops would stay alive in it. I figured what the other one was, but in any case, it slightly changes the rules for a territory. But once somebody wins the combat in a territory, then they get to choose where the god moves to in another to another space.

So I remember the last time we tried playing this, we kept forgetting to move the gods. So it just felt like, oh man, clunky, you know, thought this was great this time. It made the puzzle a little bit more different, but not drastically. So I I kind of had fun playing with it more than I had remembered. So I would be happy to go back and try this expansion again when, that new Kickstarter version has these back in print and I can pick them up at retail.

And I was like, I don't even think I realized that that guy gains more strength.

I just got lucky that I had a big battle card left over after all those guys got wiped, and I was able to pull off of that pivotal combat by one or two combat points or something like that and snuck out a little victory. Just great decisions for a very simple rule set. Really, all the strategy comes in, like I said, on this draft. Just an amazing game. So much fun playing this one.

Before Chris jumps in, I I one other moment that stood out to me was that the first round of the game, the first era, Adam several times played that combat card where when you lose, then you steal a rage from the other person.

that off, Adam. Yeah. No doubt mind reading helps a lot when you're playing Blood Rage. No doubt about that. We played with the gods of Asgard, and all I'm gonna say about that is I it is a completely optional and unnecessary expansion in my opinion.

What I do like about some of the expansion content was and this is not specifically the gods of Asgard, but I have a bunch of the expansion creatures, which I think really do add a lot to the game. So one of the things that I noticed in, you know, between the original bunch of monsters that are in this game and the new ones, the expansion ones, is that the expansion ones tend to be more oddball. They they create benefits that you're not gonna get if you're not really good at the game. Like, the first time I remember several of them the first time that I played with them, I was kinda like, why would that ever be useful? And then the more I played Blood Rage, the more I've realized, oh, that's the situation where that would be useful.

But then in the new expansion content, there are things like Ragnarok will occur where this monster is sitting instead of where it would normally be sitting. Or the wolf man where only monsters count in those battles.

And then but just so many different things that I think it really creates a lot of a lot of incentive to try new strategies to incorporate the benefits of those monsters, which you wouldn't necessarily do with just the base monsters.

Yeah, I suspect that this is more like a Dune Imperium uprising to Dune Imperium situation than anything else, which means I think it's kind of like a partly a V two, so like a kind of a slightly revised version, but also the thing that gets me the most interesting is that there might be some variety in the cards so that the next time you play with this, it just feels like a different like combos that you're putting together. And I think Blood Rage would benefit from that. So I was actually really interested in this. So here's the first part of my rant. This was probably the worst Kickstarter campaign page I've ever seen.

This is one of the most poorly produced campaign pages and the least informative because I didn't really get to see how different it was gonna feel as a game.

So they're selling off their IPs. Tabletop Tycoon probably played a crap load for it and said, we gotta pay for this.

So, Tim, after what you just said, I was curious. So I went and looked at the actual ratings and the write ups that people gave to support their ratings on BGG. And and, yes, indeed, it is rated at 3.3, and there are lots of one ratings. And almost universally, they're saying two things. One is, I don't like the way they did this campaign, which of course has nothing to do with the game itself.

And so in that one, I think I can see a little bit more as being legitimate, but still, I I really don't think anybody ought to be rating a game until they have an opportunity to actually play that game to actually see it. I mean, we're there are pictures on there, but that doesn't necessarily mean that you can actually tell what the table presence for this game is gonna look like. So I'm I'm with you on that one, Tim.

You know, people spoke and they are gonna offer a different option there. I will tell you that I'm very excited when this comes to retail, I will absolutely pick this up and give it a shot and see if it feels like the the Dune Imperium uprising to my Dune to my Dune Imperium. Because if it does, it will probably replace the original Blood Rage for me, but we'll see how it goes.

rants aside, going back to the the Camp discussion, do you guys have any any duds, any highlights that stood out, anything you would want to revisit? What stood out and what didn't from the Camp Con?

You know, it's been a few weeks since we did this, but what I remember is that the there were some games that had really high points, some high moments in them, and they were a to a tee, they were the were the troops on a map or or area control that we played. It was Wonderlands War. It was Blood Rage. Those were the ones that really stood out to me. Surprisingly, Solar Quest is very memorable for me as a game that I've actually enjoyed.

And Barrage and all these these ones that we've talked about over the years, But then some new hot thing comes out and we just stop playing those quite as much. But there's a really good reason why we like them in the first place. So going back to them is a real treat. So I'm sure that if we had played Eclipse second dawn, Tim would be saying the same thing about that even though he didn't wanna play it this time.

They rib each other just enough to keep things light, and honestly, they become our honorary board game friends. I've caught myself naming dropping them in conversations with my husband like we actually know them.

We don't, but it sure feels like we do. I've been meaning to write a review for a while, but the theme driven mechanisms episode finally pushed me over the edge. Hearing Dave Beck talk about Distilled and his visit to Kentucky hit home literally. I grew up in Kentucky just down the road from distilleries with family who worked in them. That game is one of my favorites and hearing it discussed with such care and enthusiasm was a real treat.
