嘿,大家好。

Hey, guys.

Speaker 0

欢迎收听《全耳英语》。

Welcome to All Ears English.

Speaker 0

今天我们节目请来了一位嘉宾。

We have a guest on the show today.

Speaker 0

今天,我们请到了Leann。

Today, we have Leann.

Speaker 0

Leann,欢迎你。

Leann, welcome.

Speaker 0

你最近怎么样?

How are you doing?

Speaker 1

我挺好的。

I'm doing great.

Speaker 1

你呢,Lindsay?

How are you, Lindsay?

Speaker 0

非常好。

Excellent.

Speaker 0

我听说你在德克萨斯州。

I heard you are based in Texas.

Speaker 0

你在德克萨斯州的哪个地方?

Where in Texas are you based?

Speaker 1

我在德克萨斯州的沃斯堡,就在达拉斯外面。

I am in Fort Worth, Texas, which is outside of Dallas.

Speaker 0

哦,那挺好的。

Oh, very nice.

Speaker 0

挺好的。

Very nice.

Speaker 0

那里是美国比较热的地方。

It's a hot part of the country.

Speaker 1

确实。

Definitely.

Speaker 1

对。

Yes.

Speaker 1

我们这里的夏天很长。

We have a long summer here.

Speaker 1

我们现在还在夏天里。

We're still in summer.

Speaker 0

哦,我们应该另找个时间请你来聊聊德州口音。

Oh, we should have you on another time to talk about the Texan accent.

Speaker 0

我想我们得改天再谈这个。

I guess we'll have to talk about that a different day.

Speaker 0

那么,Leann,你是一位商务英语专业人士,对吧?

So, Leann, so you are a business English professional, right?

Speaker 0

你的学生都希望在商务领域变得更有影响力。

You work with students who are wanting to become kind of more powerful in the business space.

Speaker 0

你能跟我们说说你的学生以及他们面临的一些困难吗?

Can you tell us a little bit about the students that you work with and some of the things that they're struggling with?

Speaker 1

当然可以。

Sure.

Speaker 1

如今全球市场竞争非常激烈,拥有扎实的商务技能真的很重要。

Today, it's so competitive in the global market, and it's really important to have strong business skills.

Speaker 1

我有几个学生来找我,他们可能在一家公司工作,也许他们为公司工作,他们位于巴西,但他们的同事在美国。

I have several students coming to me who possibly work at a company, maybe they work for a company, they are located in Brazil, but their counterparts are in The US.

Speaker 1

当他们必须开会、进行Skype通话、参加不同的会议,并且必须给这些同事发邮件时,他们感到非常焦虑。

They feel very anxious when they have to have meetings, have Skype talks, have different meetings, and have to email these counterparts.

Speaker 1

他们会变得紧张。

They get anxious.

Speaker 1

他们觉得自己对语言的掌握不如应该的那样好。

They feel like they don't really know the language as well as they should.

Speaker 1

他们在写邮件等方面有困难。

They have trouble with writing emails, and things like that.

Speaker 1

所以这就是我来帮助他们的原因。

So that's why I'm here to help them.

Speaker 0

我觉得这真的会引起我们听众的共鸣,因为我们的很多听众也处于同样的境地。

I think that's really gonna ring true with our listeners because a lot of our listeners are in that same place.

Speaker 0

他们觉得有时候在工作中使用英语时,甚至可能危及到自己的工作。

They feel like sometimes their job is even on the line when it comes to using English at work.

Speaker 0

他们拥有非常出色的专业技能。

They have these amazing professional skills.

Speaker 0

在我们的All Ears English社区里,就有工程师。

We have engineers in our community here at All Ears English.

Speaker 0

还有医生、律师。

We have, you know, doctors, lawyers.

Speaker 0

但在工作中用英语交流时,他们觉得哪怕只是一封邮件,都可能让他们的职业声誉受到负面影响。

But when they're at work, working in English, they feel like even just one email could really kind of set things in the wrong direction for their professional reputation.

Speaker 0

所以感觉风险很大,对吧,Leann?

So it feels like a lot is at stake, doesn't it Leann?

Speaker 1

确实如此。

Absolutely.

Speaker 1

他们承受着很大的压力,就像你说的,有时候如果英语水平达不到工作要求,甚至可能丢掉工作。

They feel a lot of pressure, and like you said, sometimes their jobs can even be on the line if they don't perform to a level that they need to in English.

Speaker 0

好的。

Okay.

Speaker 0

所以这就是我们今天请你来的原因,我们很希望你能和我们的听众,也就是那些商务专业人士,分享一下,成为一个更有影响力的商务专业人士的三个秘诀是什么……

So that's why we've brought you in today, and we would love it if you would share with our listeners, our business professional listeners, what the three kind of secrets are to being a more powerful business professional in the...

Speaker 0

嗯,就是在国外的商务领域。

Well, in the business space abroad.

Speaker 0

在英语国家,或者即使他们在自己的国家,和美国的或英国的同事、合作伙伴打交道的时候。

In an English speaking country or even if they're in their home countries and they're dealing with colleagues, partners in The US or in The UK, for example.

Speaker 1

完全正确。

Exactly right.

Speaker 1

所以,我首先鼓励我的学生去做的,就是真正去学习他们特定领域所需要的词汇。

So, first thing that I like to encourage my students to do is to really study the vocabulary that they need for their particular field.

Speaker 1

词汇和习语非常重要。

The vocabulary and idioms are so important.

Speaker 1

比如,如果他们从事保险行业,他们需要知道像责任、保费、保单这样的词。

For example, if they're in the insurance field, they need to know words like liability, premium, policy.

Speaker 1

如果他们从事法律行业,他们需要知道像量刑、案情摘要、辩护这样的词。

If they're in the legal field, they need to know words like sentencing, brief, plead.

Speaker 1

当然,还有很多我们常用的商业习语,大家可能不太熟悉,比如有人说你需要跳出框框思考。

And of course there are so many business idioms that we use that are not familiar such as if someone says you need to think outside the box.

Speaker 1

这通常意味着你需要有创意,更有创意。

that's You a common need to be creative, more creative.

Speaker 1

或者“抓住牛角”,学生们经常问“抓住牛角”是什么意思?

Or take the bull by the horns one that students what always often is take the bull by the horns?

Speaker 1

当然,那意味着要积极主动,对项目或情况负责。

Of course that means to be aggressive, to take responsibility for a project or situation.

Speaker 1

所以,学生们了解这些行话、词汇和习语,对他们在自己的领域很重要,是的。

So it's important that these students know this jargon, the vocabulary and idioms pertinent to their field in Yeah.

Speaker 0

我喜欢这个。

I like that.

Speaker 0

我觉得这个建议可以分成两类。

I see that in advice in kind of two different buckets.

Speaker 0

有一般的商务词汇,对吧?

There's the general business vocabulary, right?

Speaker 0

像“take the bull by the horn”这样的习语,在英语的大多数领域都会用到。

Idioms like take the bull by the horn, and those are used across most fields in English.

Speaker 0

然后还有一些非常专业的词汇,这种情况下,我们会建议听众找那个领域的专家。

And then there are the very specific vocabulary where in that case, would recommend that our listeners find a specialist in that field.

Speaker 0

对,没错。

We've had Right.

Speaker 0

几周前,我们节目请了一位律师,一位前律师。

A few weeks ago, we had a lawyer, a former lawyer on the show.

Speaker 0

所以如果你们是法律领域的,觉得需要扩展法律方面的词汇,可以跟前律师合作,跟前医生合作,跟那些在那个领域工作过的人合作。

So if you guys are in the legal field and you feel like you need to expand your vocabulary in the legal area, work with a former lawyer, work with a former doctor, work with people who have been in that field.

Speaker 0

但如果是通用的习语和表达,你可以找有一般商务经验的人。

But for the general idioms and expressions, you could work with someone who has a general business experience.

Speaker 0

对吧,Leann?

Right, Leann?

Speaker 1

没错。

That's correct.

Speaker 1

完全正确。

That's exactly right.

Speaker 0

我喜欢这个。

I like that.

Speaker 1

我还总是鼓励他们去听像《All Ears English》这样的播客。

Another thing I always encourage them to do is listen to podcasts like All Ears English.

Speaker 1

另外,还有一些针对特定领域的播客。

Also there are some specific podcasts for specific fields.

Speaker 1

比如《Marketing Smarts》就是讲市场营销的。

Marketing Smarts is one for marketing.

Speaker 1

我经常在课上用TED演讲,让他们听一些关于如何转型商业的演讲,或者有一个关于可持续发展的商业逻辑的演讲。

I always encourage them and I do a lot of TED Talks in my lessons where I'll have them listen to a specific TED Talk about how to transform business or there is one, the business logic of sustainability.

Speaker 1

这些TED演讲提供了很多好建议。

These TED Talks give great tips.

Speaker 1

它们对句子结构、词汇、语法和流利度都有帮助。

They help with their sentence structure, vocabulary, grammar, and fluency.

Speaker 1

我非常喜欢那些。

I Thank love those.

Speaker 2

听懂英语和用英语参与交流之间有很大的区别。

There's a big difference between understanding English and participating in English.

Speaker 2

听懂意味着你能跟上对话。

Understanding means you follow the conversation.

Speaker 2

参与则是通过加入你的想法、自然反应,以及让对话继续下去。

You participate by adding your ideas, reacting naturally, and keeping the conversation moving.

Speaker 2

很多英语学习者听力很强,但开口说话却犹豫不决。

Many English learners are strong listeners, but hesitant speakers.

Speaker 2

一旦你知道了自己当前的流利程度,缩小这个差距就容易多了。

Once you know your current fluency level, it becomes much easier to close that gap.

Speaker 0

它们也很有启发性,对吧?

They're also very inspiring, aren't they?

Speaker 1

是的。

Yes.

Speaker 1

当然。

Definitely.

Speaker 1

有些 TED 演讲非常鼓舞人心,能带来很棒的想法。

There's some very inspiring TED Talks that give great ideas.

Speaker 0

太好了。

Great.

Speaker 0

我很喜欢。

I love that.

Speaker 0

那么,在阅读或听力方面,你还有哪些资源推荐给你的学生或我们的听众去了解一下呢?

So what are some other resources in terms of reading or listening that you recommend that your students or our listeners could check out?

Speaker 1

说到商业阅读,我鼓励他们去读市面上那些杂志和报纸。

Well, far as business reading, I encourage them to really read the magazines and newspapers that are out there.

Speaker 1

好的杂志和报纸太多了。

There are so many good ones.

Speaker 1

他们可以根据自己的领域,读《福布斯》、《财富》、《商业周刊》、《经济学人》上的文章。

They can read articles from Forbes, Fortune, Business Week, The Economist, depending on their field.

Speaker 1

再说,如果他们是学法律的,可能会读《ABA期刊》,也就是美国律师协会的杂志。

Again, if they're legal, they would probably do the ABA, the American Bar Association Journal.

Speaker 1

我还鼓励他们去研究一些公司,可能是和他们公司类似的公司,或者他们将来想去的公司,或者那种类型的公司。

Another thing that I encourage them to do is go out and research companies that they're maybe similar to their company or companies that they're maybe wanting to get a job with in the future or that type of company.

Speaker 1

比如,我有学生研究过微软、亚马逊或百事可乐的商业计划,看看他们用了什么策略。

For example, I've had students research the business plan of Microsoft or Amazon or Pepsi and see what strategies they use.

Speaker 1

他们的商业计划是什么?

What are their business plans?

Speaker 0

对,如果我们想去那些地方工作,这一点就特别重要。

Well, would be especially important if we're looking to get a job with those places.

Speaker 0

如果我们申请Facebook或苹果的工作,显然需要了解他们的商业模式和他们在做什么,也许还有他们吸引新用户的最新举措。

We obviously, if we're applying for a job with Facebook or with Apple, we need to go in there knowing their business model and what they're doing, maybe their newest kind of initiatives to bring in new users.

Speaker 0

我们真的需要对这些了如指掌。

We really need to know that like the back of our hand.

Speaker 1

我会让他们去查那些公司,就像你说的,查他们的商业计划,做研究,然后我们会进行一些模拟面试。

And I have them look up the companies, like you said, look up their business plans, research them, and then we'll do some mock interviews.

Speaker 1

我会问他们与那家公司相关的问题。

And I'll ask them questions, you know, pertaining to that company.

Speaker 0

好的。

Okay.

Speaker 0

所以除了普通的商务英语,你还会做一些面试准备?

So you do a little bit of interview preparation in addition to just the general business English?

Speaker 1

当然。

Absolutely.

Speaker 1

如果他们想找工作,我有很多……

If they're looking to get a job, I have a lot of in...

Speaker 1

很多学生想换工作,我们做了很多面试准备,这挺好的。

A lot of students who are looking to change jobs, and, we do a lot of interview prep, which which is great.

Speaker 0

哦,我喜欢这个。

Oh, I like that.

Speaker 0

我喜欢这个。

I like that.

Speaker 0

好的。

Okay.

Speaker 0

到目前为止,你的建议是能够说好你所在领域的行话。

So so far, your advice has been to be able to talk the talk of your specific field.

Speaker 0

我喜欢这个说法。

I love that expression.

Speaker 0

说行话。

Talk the talk.

Speaker 0

理解词汇,不仅是通用商务英语,还有你特定领域的词汇。

Understand the vocabulary, not just of general business English, but also obviously of your specific niche.

Speaker 0

你的第二个建议是让自己沉浸在材料中,阅读关于你将要进入的行业和领域的资料,去理解并沉浸其中。

And your second tip was to immerse yourself in materials and read about the business, the field that you're going into, just understand and immerse yourself in materials.

Speaker 0

那么,对于在英语环境中成为更有影响力的专业人士,你有什么建议呢?

So what would be your tip to become kind of more powerful professionals in the English speaking space?

Speaker 1

是的。

Yes.

Speaker 1

我的第三个建议,Lindsay,是关于写作的,特别是商务邮件。

My third tip, Lindsay, is about writing, especially business emails.

Speaker 1

学生们往往想写得太长,就像写论文一样。

Students tend to want to write maybe too long, like they're writing an essay.

Speaker 1

但在写商务邮件时,你真的要确保邮件简短、切中要点、正式且礼貌,但不应超过大约五句话,因为你要向收件人表明你尊重他们的时间,而且你知道每个人都很忙,所以你不应该写一篇论文。

But when you're writing a business email, you really want to make sure that it's brief, it's to the point, it's formal and it's polite, but it shouldn't be more than about five sentences because you want to show the recipient that you value their time and you know everybody's busy and so you don't want to write an essay.

Speaker 1

你要直接切入主题。

You want to get right to the point.

Speaker 1

你要用词准确。

You want to have accurate wording.

Speaker 1

邮件要正式。

It should be formal.

Speaker 1

拼写和语法不能有错误。

It should have no mistakes with spelling or grammar.

Speaker 1

要确保内容准确,甚至在点击发送之前大声读一遍。

You want to make sure it's accurate and even read it aloud before you hit that send button.

Speaker 1

因为你知道,一旦点了发送,就收不回来了。

Because as you know, once you hit that send button, it's gone.

Speaker 0

收不回来了。

It's gone.

Speaker 0

对。

That's right.

Speaker 0

这真是太……

You know, this is so...

Speaker 0

你提到写有效邮件这个话题,我特别高兴。

I'm so glad you brought this up, the writing effective emails.

Speaker 0

我觉得我们可以再请你上节目,专门聊聊电子邮件这个话题。

And I think we could have you on the show again just to talk about emails.

Speaker 0

这可能是商业中最大的文化差异了。

This might be the single biggest cultural difference in business.

Speaker 0

你说得非常对。

It's very true what you said.

Speaker 0

我想再强调一下你刚才说的,人们不喜欢你浪费他们的时间。

I just wanna highlight again what you said that people don't want you to waste their time.

Speaker 0

在这里,时间是非常宝贵的。

Time is such a commodity here.

Speaker 0

不管我们喜不喜欢、尊不尊重、同不同意,我们对这个的看法其实并不重要。

And whether we like that, respect that, or agree with that, it really is irrelevant what we think about that.

Speaker 0

没错。

It's Right.

Speaker 0

事实就是这样。

It's just true.

Speaker 0

事情就是这样,尤其是在波士顿、纽约、华盛顿特区这样的大城市,跟商务人士打交道的时候。

It just is the way it is, especially when you're dealing with a business person in places like Boston, New York, right, Washington DC, the big cities.

Speaker 0

你就是不能浪费他们的时间。

You just can't waste their time.

Speaker 0

所以,Leann,我真的很喜欢你的这些建议。

So I really like your tips here, Leann.

Speaker 0

你有没有看到你的学生在这方面犯过错误?

Have you seen your students make mistakes with this?

Speaker 1

是的。

Yes.

Speaker 1

他们确实犯过。

They have.

Speaker 1

所以我真的鼓励他们,我们也练习如何立刻切入正题。

And so I really encourage them and we practice to practice getting to the point immediately.

Speaker 1

所以,你……

So you...

Speaker 1

当你写邮件的时候,亲爱的史密斯先生,我上周给你发了我们广告的预算提案。

When you're writing an email, you know, dear mister Smith, I sent you the proposed budget last week on our advertising.

Speaker 1

我想看看我们今天下午三点四十五能不能通过Skype见个面,讨论一些预算项目。

I would like to see if we can meet via Skype today, this afternoon at 03:45 to discuss some budget items.

Speaker 1

期待你的回复。

I look forward to your reply.

Speaker 1

此致敬礼,然后是你的名字。

Respectfully yours, you know, and your name.

Speaker 1

就是……

Just...

Speaker 1

邮件应该简短、直奔主题,不要啰嗦。

It should be brief, to the point, and, not wordy.

Speaker 0

没错。

Exactly.

Speaker 0

我喜欢这个。

I like that.

Speaker 0

而且我们有一些固定的说法,可以放进邮件里,保持礼貌。

And there are certain phrases that we can use and drop into our emails to remain polite.

Speaker 0

比如‘期待您的回复’之类的。

Like, I look forward to, receiving your reply, for example.

Speaker 0

对。

Yes.

Speaker 0

所以我们可以把直接切入正题和那些客套话、好听的措辞结合起来,维持良好的关系。

And so we can mix in just being direct into the point with using those kind of pleasantries or those nice phrases that maintain the rapport.

Speaker 1

没错。

Exactly.

Speaker 1

这需要在礼貌、准确和正式之间取得平衡。

It's a balance of being pleasant and accurate and formal.

Speaker 0

我们得再深入聊聊这个话题。

We're gonna have to go into this again.

Speaker 0

我真的很喜欢这个话题,我们在节目里聊得还不够多,因为我们知道所有听众都在写邮件。

I I really like this topic, and we don't talk about it enough on this show because we know that all of our listeners are writing emails.

Speaker 0

很多人都在用英语写邮件,我们想把这个领域攻克下来。

Many of them are writing them in English, and we wanna conquer this area.

Speaker 0

但非常感谢你,Leann。

But thank you so much, Leann.

Speaker 0

这真是太棒了。

This has been great.

Speaker 0

所以再总结一下,我们需要学会说行话,理解商务和我们领域的词汇,沉浸到材料中去,多读我们领域的文章,还要把邮件写好。

So just to recap again, we need to learn to talk the talk, understand the vocabulary of business and of our field, Immerse ourselves in materials and read about our field, and also get the emails down.

Speaker 0

明白怎么写一封有效且简洁的邮件。

Understand how to write an effective concise email.

Speaker 0

我很喜欢。

I love it.

Speaker 0

这就是成为一位强大的商务专业人士的方法。

That is the way to be a powerful business professional.

Speaker 0

最后……

Final...

Speaker 0

对于想用英语打入商业圈子的听众,你还有什么最后的建议吗?

Any final words of wisdom for our listeners who are trying to break into the business scene in English?

Speaker 1

我觉得首先要做大量的调研。

I'd say start out with a lot of research.

Speaker 1

研究你感兴趣的公司以及他们在做什么。

Researching the companies you're interested and what they're doing.

Speaker 1

现在互联网上能查到的东西太多了。

And you can pull up so many things on the internet today.

Speaker 1

你可以找到公司的一些邮件范例。

You can pull up some sample emails from companies.

Speaker 1

另外,如果你想换工作,技能非常重要。

Also, skills are so important if you're trying to change jobs.

Speaker 1

所以我建议去上课,学习怎么写简历,写一份有效的简历,还有学习怎么写求职信。

So, I would encourage, you know, taking lessons, learning how to make a resume, an effective resume, learning how to write a cover letter.

Speaker 1

面试技巧也非常重要。

Interview skills are so important also.

Speaker 0

没错。

Absolutely.

Speaker 0

要学的东西确实很多。

There's a lot to learn.

Speaker 0

所以我们要确保为成功投资,因为确实如此。

So we wanna make sure we invest in our success because Exactly.

Speaker 0

只靠免费资源,是没办法实现我们的职业目标的。

Just relying on free materials is not gonna get us to where we wanna be with our career goals.

Speaker 1

对。

That's right.

Speaker 0

所以,为了这个目标,我们想鼓励听众朋友们去了解一下Leann的商务英语课程。

And so to that end, we wanna encourage our listeners to go on over and check out Leann's Business English class.

Speaker 0

你这里有一门专门的商务英语课,看起来还挺受欢迎的。

You have a specific class here that is just for business English, and it looks like it's pretty popular.

Speaker 0

这门课你已经教过很多次了。

You've taught this session quite a bit.

Speaker 0

是的。

So Yes.

Speaker 0

所以,各位听众朋友们,如果你想预约和Leann一起提升商务英语技能,让自己更有竞争力,你的第一步就是访问allearsenglish.com/italki。

So for our listeners guys, if you wanna book a time to work with Leann on your business English skills to become more powerful, your first step, step one is to go to allearsenglish.com/italki.

Speaker 0

如果你在那里注册为新用户,你会在和Leann的第二次课上获得10美元的优惠。

If you register there as a new user, you'll get 10 off your second lesson with Leann.

Speaker 0

第二步就是去Leann的主页预约你的课程。

Your second step is to go to Leann's profile and book your lesson.

Speaker 0

Leann,你能告诉我们怎么在italki上找到你的主页吗?

Leann, can you tell us how to find your profile on italki?

Speaker 1

当然可以。

Sure.

Speaker 1

嗯,你可以去italki.com,有几种方式可以找到。

Well, you'd go to italki.com, and, you can do it a couple ways.

Speaker 1

你可以搜索不同的语言然后浏览,但如果你想专门找我的话,更简单的方法是直接访问italki.com/teacher,我的编号是1244791。

You can, you know, search for different languages and scroll through, but a little bit easier if you're looking specifically for me is you can go to italki.com/teacher and my number is 1244791.

Speaker 1

那是我的个人资料编号。

That's my, profile number.

Speaker 0

好的。

Good.

Speaker 0

好的。

Good.

Speaker 0

那我再说一遍,网址是 italki.com/teacher/1244791,他们会在那里看到你的照片,然后就可以直接预约课程了。

So just to say that one more time, it's italki.com/teacher/124479one, and they will see a photo of you there, and they can go ahead and book that session.

Speaker 0

哇。

Wow.

Speaker 0

这太棒了。

This is great.

Speaker 0

商务英语要学的东西真多。

There's so much to learn when it comes to business English.

Speaker 0

而且还有……

And there...

Speaker 0

正是那些细微的差别决定了我们的成败,你说对吧,Leann?

It's the little nuances that make the difference in our success, isn't it, Leann?

Speaker 1

Lindsay,你说得太对了。

It's so true what you said, Lindsay.

Speaker 0

好的,非常感谢你能来。

Well, thanks so much for coming in.

Speaker 0

我们很感激你分享的这些建议,希望很快能在节目中再次见到你。

We appreciate your tips here, and we hope to see you again on the show soon.

Speaker 1

谢谢。

Thank you.

Speaker 1

Lindsay,感谢你抽出时间。

I appreciate the time, Lindsay.

Speaker 1

祝你今天愉快。

Have a wonderful day.

Speaker 0

非常感谢。

Thanks a lot.

Speaker 0
