S o c I a l。

S o c I a l.

Speaker 1

你好,Michelle。

Hello, Michelle.

Speaker 1

你今天怎么样?

How are you today?

Speaker 2

我挺好的,Aubrey。

I'm doing well, Aubrey.

Speaker 2

Aubrey,你小时候长大想做什么?

Aubrey, when you were a kid, what did you wanna be when you grew up?

Speaker 1

哦,天哪。

Oh, man.

Speaker 1

我其实没什么特别的想法。我记得上高中的时候,有一门职业规划课,我得选一个职业,我选了程序员,因为那时候电脑还挺新奇的。

I didn't really have anything specific in mind when I was a I remember when I was in high school, I had this careers class and I had to choose and I chose computer programmer because computers were sort of new and exciting at the time.

Speaker 1

我年纪就这么大了。

That's how old I am.

Speaker 1

但即使那样,我也很快就没兴趣了。我从来就不是那种从小就清楚自己想做什么的孩子。

But even then, like I got over that really quick and I just was never the kid who like knew what I wanted to be from when I was really little.

Speaker 1

你呢,Michelle?

What about you Michelle?

Speaker 2

其实我想过很多,现在想想,我脑子里有很多想法。

Well actually I wanted to be a lot of I had a lot of things in mind actually now that I think about it.

Speaker 2

我记得我想当老师。

I remember I wanted to be a teacher.

Speaker 2

那肯定是因为我会和我的娃娃玩,我还有一个小的记分册,但你知道我小时候为什么想当老师吗?

That was definitely because I would I would play with my dolls and I had a little grade book and but you know why I wanted to be a teacher when I was younger?

Speaker 1

为什么?

Why?

Speaker 2

因为我想在投影仪上写字。

Because I wanted to write on the overhead.

Speaker 2

还记得投影仪吗?

Remember remember the overhead?

Speaker 2

记得。

Yes.

Speaker 2

那太好玩了,还有那些小记号笔。

That was so fun with the little The markers.

Speaker 2

我一直很喜欢那个样子。

I always loved how it looked how like that.

Speaker 2

而且我以前真的会去买透明胶片和投影笔,然后拿来玩。

And I actually would have like buy transparencies and overhead markers and like use that to play with.

Speaker 1

真有意思,因为现在这些都已经被白板取代了。

That's interesting because that's all been replaced now with like white boards.

Speaker 1

但是我和Michelle小时候上学那会儿,不知道听众们有没有印象。

But when Michelle and I were younger and in school, I'm curious if listeners out there are familiar.

Speaker 1

那是一个发光的投影。

It was a lit up projection.

Speaker 1

就像投影仪一样,他们会放一张透明的纸在上面,然后用记号笔在上面写字,擦掉之后,字就会投影到墙上或者黑板上。我记得我当时也挺着迷的。

It was like a projector that they would put this transparent paper, you know, paper on and then they would write on that with a Sharpie and then wipe it off and that would be projected up onto the wall or the blackboard and I remember being sort of enamored with that too.

Speaker 1

就是那种感觉,有点说不清。

Was like, It's it's something about

Speaker 2

笔在上面写字的柔和感,还有各种颜色,但问题是我习惯用左手,所以那些东西对我来说一直是个麻烦。对。

the softness of the pen writing on it and all the colors, but the problem is I'm left handed and so that's always been an issue with any of those Right.

Speaker 2

是的。

Yes.

Speaker 2

所以,这就是我当初想成为……

So but that's why I wanted to be

Speaker 1

一名老师。

a teacher.

Speaker 2

但那不是我成为老师的原因。

But that's not why I became a teacher.

Speaker 2

但后来我还有其他想法,比如我想当歌手、演员之类的,但今天我们就走到了这里。

But then I had other things in mind like I wanted to be a singer and an actress and all these things and so but here we are today.

Speaker 1

是的。

Yes.

Speaker 1

你可能注意到了,我们在讨论“have in mind”这个短语。

And you might have noticed we're talking about this phrase have in mind.

Speaker 1

这是由我们偶尔听到的学生错误引发的,最近我听到有人说“我没想过换职业会有多冒险”。

This was prompted by a student mistake that we hear sometimes and recently I heard someone say I didn't have in mind how risky it would be to switch careers.

Speaker 1

我当然明白他们的意思,但“have something in mind”这个结构挺有意思的。

And so of course I understood what they meant but this is kind of an interesting construction to have something in mind.

Speaker 1

我们使用这个短语的方式比较特定。

We use it in sort of a specific way.

Speaker 1

所以我们要解释一下为什么那样说听起来有点奇怪,以及你该怎么在英语里用这个短语。

So we're going to explain you know sort of why this sounded strange and how you can use this phrase in English.

Speaker 2

没错。

Exactly.

Speaker 2

对。

Exactly.

Speaker 2

所以这会很有意思。

So this is gonna be really interesting.

Speaker 2

所以各位,无论你在哪里收听《商务英语播客》,一定要点击关注按钮,这样就不会错过我们的任何内容。

So guys, make sure you hit the follow button wherever you're listening to the Business English Podcast so that you don't miss anything from us.

Speaker 1

那我们就深入聊聊这个话题吧。

So let's dive into this.

Speaker 1

为什么不能说“我没想过转行会有多冒险”呢?

Why can't you say, you know, I didn't have in mind how risky it would be to switch careers?

Speaker 1

嗯,我们通常不会用 have in mind 来表达意识、理解或某事的程度。

Well, we don't use normally use have in mind, with things related to like awareness or understanding or the degree of something.

Speaker 1

完全正确。

Exactly right.

Speaker 1

这个句子讲的是意识到或理解风险,也涉及风险的程度。

The sentence is about being aware or understanding risks and it's also talking about the degree of that risk.

Speaker 1

所以难点在于 how 经常出现在程度描述之前。

So the tricky thing is how often comes before the degree of something.

Speaker 1

我们可能会说 how risky。

We might say how risky.

Speaker 1

我没意识到这会有多冒险。

I didn't understand how risky this would be.

Speaker 1

how difficult。

How difficult.

Speaker 1

我完全不知道那会有多难。

I had no idea how difficult that would be.

Speaker 1

或者多贵。

Or how expensive.

Speaker 1

我震惊于这有多贵。对。

I was shocked at how expensive this Right.

Speaker 2

所以如果你用how加上形容词或副词,和have in mind搭配起来听起来会很奇怪。

So if you have how and then an adjective or an adverb it will probably sound strange with have in mind.

Speaker 1

没错。

Exactly.

Speaker 1

那我们什么时候可以用have in mind呢?

So when can we use have in mind?

Speaker 1

因为这是个很好的短语。

Because this is a great phrase.

Speaker 1

我们在工作中经常听到。

We hear it a lot at work.

Speaker 1

我们用它,也希望你能分享你心里想的,不管是工作中的项目、你计划的事情,还是我们之前的对话,对吧?

We use it and we want you to be able to share what you had in mind, whether that's about a project at work, what you had planned or the conversation we had, right?

Speaker 1

你小时候想成为什么样的人,这就是指你脑子里已经有的具体想法或计划,对吧?

What you had in mind to be when you grew up And this is more for specific ideas or plans that you already have in your head, right?

Speaker 2

所以就是“have”加上你的想法或计划,然后再加上“in mind”,对吧?

So have plus your idea or plan and then in mind, right?

Speaker 2

比如,我下个季度有几个营销想法。

So for example, I have a few marketing ideas in mind for next quarter.

Speaker 1

这差不多等于说我有几件事在考虑。

It sort of means the same as I have a few things I'm thinking about.

Speaker 1

我有几个计划。

I have a few plans.

Speaker 1

这是另一种很好的表达方式。

This is another great way to say that.

Speaker 1

你可能会说,在预算削减之前,我们本来有不同的策略。

You might say we had a different strategy in mind before the budget cuts.

Speaker 1

哦,那可能会改变一切。

Oh, that can change everything.

Speaker 2

是的。

Yes.

Speaker 2

你知道有趣的是什么吗?

And you know what's interesting?

Speaker 2

我刚刚通过另一个例子意识到,我脑子里有几个营销想法。

I just realized with this other example, I have a few marketing ideas in mind.

Speaker 2

我们不会说“在我的脑子里”,而是说“在脑子里”。

We don't say it like we would say in mind more than in my mind.

Speaker 2

这其实才是我们的意思。

And that's really what we mean.

Speaker 2

但出于某种原因,我们不会说“我脑子里有几个营销想法”。

But for some reason, we don't we don't want you I wouldn't say I have a few marketing ideas in my mind.

Speaker 1

这是一个固定搭配。

This is a chunk.

Speaker 1

“to have in mind”这个短语。

To have in mind.

Speaker 1

你心里想的,我们这里把“my”给省掉了。

What you have in mind and we drop that my.

Speaker 1

不需要用所有格代词。

We don't need the possessive pronoun.

Speaker 1

我想可能是因为大家默认你就是在说自己的心思,也可能是为了简洁,所以就把“have in mind”作为一个固定搭配来用了。

I guess because it's sort of understood that you're talking about your own mind or maybe to shorten, we use this as a chunk, have in mind.

Speaker 1

这点说得挺对的。

That's a good point.

Speaker 2

没错。

Exactly.

Speaker 2

对,就是这样。

Exactly.

Speaker 2

然后我们还可以用它来思考某个特定的人或地方。

So and then we could use it for thinking about a specific person or a place.

Speaker 2

比如,你会说‘把某人或某地放在心上’。

So for example, you would say have plus the person or place plus in mind.

Speaker 2

比如说,你心里有没有考虑过谁来担任管理职位?

So for example, did you have anyone in mind for the management role?

Speaker 2

就是你考虑要雇谁来担任那个职位。

So anyone that you're thinking about hiring for that role.

Speaker 1

对。

Exactly.

Speaker 1

这是非常地道、自然的说法,比问“你考虑雇谁”要好得多。

This is such a native natural way to say that instead of who are you thinking about hiring.

Speaker 1

说“你心里有人选吗?”

To say, do you have anyone in mind?

Speaker 1

意思就是“你在考虑谁?”

Who are you considering is what that means?

Speaker 1

或者“我已经心里有开会的场地了。”

Or I already have a venue in mind for the conference.

Speaker 1

意思是我已经在考虑一个了,而且说“我心里有一个”其实意味着我已经决定了。

It means one that I'm already considering and really to say I have one in mind sort of means I've decided on it.

Speaker 1

我已经很确定了。

I'm pretty set.

Speaker 2

对。

True.

Speaker 2

然后这个挺有意思的。

And then this is interesting.

Speaker 2

所以你可能常听到的一个问题是:你有什么想法?

So a common question that you might hear is what did you have in mind?

Speaker 2

这可以用来询问别人的想法。

And this could be used for asking about someone's idea.

Speaker 2

比如,你对重新设计有什么具体想法?

So for example, what exactly did you have in mind for the redesign?

Speaker 2

是的。

Yes.

Speaker 2

或者也可以用来询问别人的偏好。

Or it could be used for asking someone's preferences.

Speaker 2

比如,你说过我们应该庆祝一下。

Like, you said we should celebrate.

Speaker 2

你有什么想法?

What did you have in mind?

Speaker 2

或者,对于商务午餐你有什么想法?

Or what did you have in mind for the business lunch?

Speaker 2

我的意思是,这甚至可以用于很随意的场合,比如我和奥布里决定去吃午饭,你可以说,哦,我们去哪儿吃?

I mean, I mean, it could even be as something as casual as Aubrey and I are deciding to get lunch and you said, you could say, oh, where should we go?

Speaker 2

我可能会说,哦,那你有什么想法?

And I might say, oh, well, what did you have in mind?

Speaker 2

大概就是这样。

Something like that.

Speaker 1

这种说法真的很礼貌。

This is such a polite construction.

Speaker 1

非常尊重人。

It's very respectful.

Speaker 1

我觉得这就是为什么我们在职场和商务英语里经常听到这个说法,对吧?

I think that's why we hear it a lot at work in business English, right?

Speaker 1

因为另一种说法就是“你想去哪儿?”

Because the alternative is like where do you want to go?

Speaker 1

“你想去哪儿吃午饭?”

Where do you want to go for lunch?

Speaker 1

“你对重新设计有什么想法?”

What are you thinking for the redesign?

Speaker 1

这也不是什么大不了的事,但加上这个说法会显得更有礼貌,多一分尊重。

Which is not the end of the world, but this adds a little bit of politeness, a little level of respect.

Speaker 1

没错。

Exactly.

Speaker 0

And I can't wait to see you soon inside the course.

Speaker 1

好的。

Alright.

Speaker 1

那我们回到学生犯的错误上来。

So let's jump back to the student mistake.

Speaker 1

你知道,除了“我没想过换职业会有多冒险”之外,还能怎么说?

You know, what can you say instead of, I didn't have in mind how risky it would be to switch careers?

Speaker 1

我们换种说法该怎么说呢?

How would we say this instead?

Speaker 2

好的。

Okay.

Speaker 2

嗯,当你谈论对某事的意识、理解或程度时,你可以说“完全不知道”。

Well, when you're talking aware about awareness or understanding or degree of something, You could say something like, had no idea.

Speaker 2

所以再说一次,这跟“多么”搭配很重要。

So again, this goes along with this how, which is important.

Speaker 2

真的,非常有用。

Really, is a really, like very useful.

Speaker 2

比如,我完全不知道换职业会有多冒险。

So for example, I had no idea how risky it would be to switch careers.

Speaker 2

那样听起来会自然得多,也更像日常对话。

So that would be much, that would sound much more natural and conversational.

Speaker 2

而且它确实能表达出那种惊讶的感觉,就像我们之前说的“how”一样。

And it does show that surprise like we talked about with how.

Speaker 2

再举个例子,比如“我完全没想到这个行业竞争这么激烈”,或者“我们完全没想到这个项目需要这么多时间”。

So another example would be, I had no idea how competitive the industry would be or we had no idea how much time the project would require.

Speaker 2

没错。

Exactly.

Speaker 2

这真是个很好的说法,

That is a great way to say

Speaker 1

用来替代那个表达。

that instead.

Speaker 1

与其说“我没预料到会发生什么”,不如说“我完全没想到”。

Instead of I didn't have in mind what would happen, you'd say I had no idea.

Speaker 1

然后你可以随便接任何内容。

And then you can finish that with anything.

Speaker 1

比如“这有多冒险”、“这有多难”。

How risky this would be, how difficult this would be.

Speaker 1

你还可以说“had no clue”。

Another thing you could say is had no clue.

Speaker 1

我完全没想到转行会这么冒险,对吧?

I had no clue how risky it would be to switch careers, right?

Speaker 1

这比“had no idea”更口语化。

This is more informal than had no idea.

Speaker 1

非常日常的说法。

It's very conversational.

Speaker 1

我可能会说,我完全没想到管理远程团队会这么难。

I might say I had no clue how difficult managing a remote team would be.

Speaker 1

就是那种,你本来以为挺简单的。

This is the kind of that you're like, oh, I expected it to be pretty easy.

Speaker 1

结果没想到会这么棘手。

I had no clue that it would end up being so tough.

Speaker 2

或者他们完全没想到扩张会变得这么贵。

Or they had no clue how expensive expansion would become.

Speaker 2

所以,是的,我觉得这对那些刚开始创业的人来说特别有用。

So yeah, I feel like this was really good for, especially somebody who's starting a business.

Speaker 2

也许我没想到会有多难,或者类似的情况。

Maybe I had no clue how hard it would be or something like that.

Speaker 2

然后这里还有一个。

And then here's another one.

Speaker 2

没意识到。

Didn't realize.

Speaker 2

所以这个你可以这么说。

So this one you would do.

Speaker 2

我没意识到转行会有多大风险。

I didn't realize how risky it would be to switch careers.

Speaker 2

这是最自然、最专业的说法。

And this is the most natural and professional option.

Speaker 2

听起来非常正式。

Sounds very buttoned up.

Speaker 2

她没意识到这个职位的要求有多高。

She didn't realize how demanding the role would be.

Speaker 2

还能怎么说呢?

And what else could you say?

Speaker 1

我们没意识到实施需要多长时间。

We didn't realize how long the implementation would take.

Speaker 1

对,就是这样。

So yes, exactly.

Speaker 1

就是说你完全不知道或者毫无概念。

To say you had no clue or had no idea.

Speaker 1

这些说法更随意、更友好、更像日常对话。

These are much more informal, friendly, conversational.

Speaker 1

如果你想听起来更得体、更专业,比如在会议、演讲或求职面试中,最好用“我没意识到”。

If you are wanting to sound more polished and professional, maybe in a meeting or a presentation, a job interview, it would be optimal to use I didn't realize.

Speaker 2

是的。

Yes.

Speaker 2

没错。

Exactly.

Speaker 2

所以这些都是很好的替代说法,你可以用它们来表达。

So these are a bunch of really good options of what else you could say.

Speaker 2

我们要不要来一段角色扮演?

Should we do a role play?

Speaker 1

来吧。

Let's do it.

Speaker 1

你和我在这里是工作上的朋友。

You and I are work friends here.

Speaker 1

我刚升到管理职位,你已经是另一个部门的经理了。

I just got promoted to a management position, you are already a manager of another department.

Speaker 1

好的。

Okay.

Speaker 1

你想先开始吗?

Do you wanna start us I

Speaker 2

我来开头吧。

will start out.

Speaker 2

开始了。

Here we go.

Speaker 2

欢迎加入管理团队。

Welcome to the management team.

Speaker 2

那你那边

So how's it

Speaker 1

部门里情况怎么样?

going in your in your department?

Speaker 1

还行吧。

It's going okay.

Speaker 1

说实话,我没想到要协调这么多事情。

Honestly, I had no idea how much coordination it would involve.

Speaker 1

很多人都不了解这工作有多累。

A lot of people don't realize how demanding it can be.

Speaker 1

这绝对值得加薪。

It's definitely worthy of that pay raise.

Speaker 1

确实。

True.

Speaker 1

我也没想到每周会有那么多晚间的会议。

I also had no clue how many late meetings I'd have every week.

Speaker 1

有点应接不暇,但我觉得我会慢慢

It's been a bit overwhelming, but I think I'll get the

Speaker 2

适应的。

hang of it.

Speaker 2

明白了。

Gotcha.

Speaker 2

那你接受晋升的时候,心里是怎么想的?

So when you accepted the promotion, what did you have in mind?

Speaker 1

我以为会更多是关于战略和领导方面的工作。

I thought it would be more on strategy and leadership.

Speaker 1

我没意识到我会花那么多时间解决日常问题。

I didn't realize how much time I'd spend solving day to day problems.

Speaker 1

是的。

Yes.

Speaker 1

我觉得这是工作中很常见的对话,对吧?

This I think is a very common conversation at work, right?

Speaker 1

我们常常对事情的发展有设想,比如事情会多简单,和每个人合作会多容易。

We often have this idea of how things will go, whether how simple it would be, how easy everyone will be to work with.

Speaker 1

但现实往往不是这样,对吧?

And then that's not always how it goes, right?

Speaker 2

对,确实如此。

Yeah, that's true.

Speaker 2

生活总是充满惊喜,确实如此。

That's life is full of surprises even It's true.

Speaker 1

是啊,这让我们保持警觉,也让事情变得有趣。

Know, it keeps us on our toes, keeps things interesting.

Speaker 1

没错。

Exactly.

Speaker 2

好的。

All right.

Speaker 2

那你之前说,你没想到会需要这么多协调工作。

So first you said I had no idea how much coordination it would involve.

Speaker 2

所以你当时挺惊讶的。

So you were surprised.

Speaker 1

对,这其实是个很好的沟通技巧,对吧?

Yeah, and this is such a good connection skill, right?

Speaker 1

你问,最近怎么样?

You're saying like how's it going?

Speaker 1

我本来可以随便说句还行就过去了,对吧?

I could just say fine and move on, right?

Speaker 1

但我更在乎和你作为同事的关系。

But instead I care about the relationship with you as a coworker.

Speaker 1

我这是实话实说。

I'm being honest here.

Speaker 1

我在跟你分享。

I'm sharing with you.

Speaker 1

这比我想象的更有挑战性,能有这些表达方式真是太好了。

It's more challenging than I expected and it's great to have the phrases to do that.

Speaker 1

这对职场中的沟通联系其实非常重要。

This is actually really important for connection at work.

Speaker 1

确实。

Definitely.

Speaker 1

然后你说很多人没意识到这有多费精力。

And then you said a lot of people don't realize how demanding it can be.

Speaker 1

这是一种非常专业的说法。

This is a very professional way to say this.

Speaker 1

当然,你也可以说完全没概念。

Know, of course you can say no clue.

Speaker 1

我们关系显然好到可以用这些更随意的说法。

We're clearly good enough friends that we can use these more informal phrases.

Speaker 1

我完全不知道。

I had no clue.

Speaker 1

我一点头绪都没有,但这个说法适合任何商务场合。

I had no idea, but this would be perfect for any business scenario.

Speaker 2

对,没错。

Yes, exactly.

Speaker 2

那下一个是什么?

And what was the next one?

Speaker 1

我说过,我也不知道每周会有多少次加班会议。

I said I also had no clue how many late meetings I'd have every week.

Speaker 1

我觉得我跟不同工作环境的人聊过这个话题。

I feel like I've had this conversation with people depending on where they work.

Speaker 1

你常常无法预料某家公司的情况,对吧?

They you often just can't foresee how things work at a certain company, right?

Speaker 1

有些地方所有会议都在早上,一切都安排好了,然后你去了别的地方。

In some places all the meetings are in the morning, everything's and then you go somewhere else.

Speaker 1

哇,我们下午晚些时候有这么多会议。

Wow, we have all these meetings later in the afternoon.

Speaker 1

我完全没想到,这需要一些时间来适应。

I had no clue that's going to take some getting used to.

Speaker 2

对,总是让人意外。

Like, always always a surprise.

然后我们说,那么当你接受晋升时,你心里是怎么想的?

And then we said, so when you accepted the promotion, what did you have in mind?

Speaker 2

所以有点像,你原本以为会是什么样子?

So it's kind of like, what did you think it would be?

Speaker 1

但你可以看到,根据语气不同,这听起来可能轻率或带有指责批评的意味。

But this is you can see how depending on the tone, this might sound flippant or accusatory critical.

Speaker 1

就像,嗯,你

It's like, well, you

Speaker 2

接受了,那你原本期待的是什么?

accepted What did your you expect?

Speaker 1

有意思,这两者之间的差别就在这里。

And that would be it's interesting the difference there.

Speaker 1

那样说更直接,也更带批评意味。

That is a more blunt critical way to say it.

Speaker 1

你期待什么?

What did you expect?

Speaker 1

但用这种更正式的说法,你当时是怎么想的?

But when you say this more formal construction, what did you have in mind?

Speaker 1

听起来更尊重人。

It is more respectful.

Speaker 1

也更礼貌。

It's more polite.

Speaker 1

就是问问你原本的期望是什么,但不带批评的意思。

Just kind of like what were your expectations, but without the criticism,

Speaker 2

对,是的,所以怎么说真的很重要。

Right, yeah, so it all matters how you say something.

Speaker 1

最后你提到,我没想到会花那么多时间解决日常问题,这又是最合适、最恰当的说法,适用于各种工作场合。

Then lastly you said I didn't realize how much time I'd spend solving day to day problems and that again is the most you know acceptable or appropriate rather for every work scenario.

Speaker 1

说“我没想到”显得很得体、很专业。

It's polished, it's professional, just to say I didn't realize.

Speaker 2

我没想到,是的。

I didn't realize, yep.
