Speaker 1

你好,Lindsay。

Hello, Lindsay.

Speaker 1

你最近怎么样?

How are you?

Speaker 0

嘿。

Hey.

Speaker 0

我挺好的,Aubrey。

I'm doing great, Aubrey.

Speaker 0

你好吗?

How are you?

Speaker 0

最近怎么样?

How's it going?

Speaker 1

我特别好。

I am excellent.

Speaker 1

问你个问题。

Quick question for you.

Speaker 0

好的。

Yes.

Speaker 1

你经常和别人聊工资吗?

Do you often talk with people about their salary?

Speaker 0

嗯,我会和我的伴侣聊工资,但和朋友聊得不多。

Well, I talk with my partner about salary, but not a ton with friends.

Speaker 0

不过我知道,有些朋友之间聊工资比我聊得多一些。

But I do know, like, some friends talk with other friends about salary a bit more than I than I do.

Speaker 0

如果你和某个人在同一个行业,你可能会更愿意聊这个话题。

If you're in the same industry as someone, you might be more likely to.

Speaker 0

但对我来说,这种情况不太多。

But not Most so much.

Speaker 0

那你呢?

What about

Speaker 1

这种情况经常出现,对吧?

often comes up with that, right?

Speaker 1

当你们在同一个行业时,可能有人正在面试新工作,或者想进入你所在的行业。

When it's within the same industry, someone's maybe interviewing for a new job or a job in your industry.

Speaker 1

所以他们想知道有竞争力的薪资水平,对吧?

And so they want to know what competitive salaries are, right?

Speaker 0

当然。

For sure.

Speaker 0

没错。

Sure.

Speaker 0

今天的节目灵感来自YouTube上的一个问题。

Today's episode is inspired by a question in YouTube.

Speaker 0

大家别忘了,我们All Ears English有一个YouTube频道。

Speaker 0

好吗?

Okay?

Speaker 1

对。

Yes.

Speaker 1

我来给大家读一下。

I'll read it for us.

Speaker 1

这是来自Max Galvin 136的提问,他说:嘿,Aubrey、Lindsay和Michelle。

Is from Max Galvin 136 who said, Hey, Aubrey, Lindsay and Michelle.

Speaker 1

这期节目非常有意思。

Super interesting episode.

Speaker 1

那在美国,薪水情况怎么样?

What about salary in The USA?

Speaker 1

基本工资?

Base salary?

Speaker 1

你能在一期节目里解释一下吗?

Could you explain it in an episode?

Speaker 1

谢谢。

Thanks.

Speaker 1

所以,是的,这很有意思,因为在美国的商业文化中,我们并不总是直接问别人的薪水,但你确实可能会在总体上讨论不同领域或职业的薪资情况。

So, yeah, this is interesting because in American business culture, we don't always ask someone salary, but you definitely might have conversations about this in general about salaries for different fields or careers.

Speaker 1

如果你是决策者,你也可能会和同事讨论新员工的薪酬方案。

You could also have a conversation with coworkers if you're a decision maker, maybe about compensation packages for new hires.

Speaker 0

哦,那当然。

Oh, for sure.

Speaker 0

所以这个话题会出现,我们需要坦然面对。

So it will come up and we need to be okay.

Speaker 0

我们只需要知道什么时候问合适。

We just kinda need to know the cues of when is it appropriate.

Speaker 0

比如,如果你在晚宴上,朋友来自不同行业,你不一定会问“你赚多少钱?”

Like, if you're at a dinner party with friends who are in all different industries, you're not necessarily gonna say, so how much do you make?

Speaker 0

我是说,你可以问,

I mean, you could,

Speaker 1

你知道,

you know,

Speaker 0

你可以打破一些常规,这也许也不错。

you could break some norms, which could be good, I guess.

Speaker 0

但是,你知道……

But, you know...

Speaker 1

这很有意思,因为我觉得一般来说,问或者主动说可能会被认为有点俗气。

That's interesting because I feel like in general, it's considered maybe a little bit tacky to ask or to offer.

Speaker 1

如果有人突然随口说出自己赚多少钱,我会想,真的假的?

If someone just randomly throws out how much they make, I'd be like, really?

Speaker 0

这挺有意思的。

That's interesting.

Speaker 0

这有点不礼貌。

It's a little rude.

Speaker 0

这有点不礼貌。

It's a little rude.

Speaker 0

我同意。

I agree.

Speaker 0

Speaker 0

你不想错过我们发布的任何一集吧。

You don't want to miss a single episode that we publish here.

Speaker 0

好的。

All

Speaker 1

那我们首先来分享一些关于薪资的术语。

So we're first going to share some of the terminology that we use around salary.

Speaker 1

第一个是起薪,对吧?

The first one is starting salary, right?

Speaker 1

这是员工刚开始一份工作时拿到的薪水。对。

This is the amount of money an employee is paid when they first begin a job Yeah.

Speaker 1

在未来的加薪或升职之前。

Before any, you know, future raises or promotion.

Speaker 1

就是他们入职时被提供的那个数额。

Just the amount they're offered when they begin the job.

Speaker 0

是的。

Yes.

Speaker 0

没错。

Exactly.

Speaker 0

比如说,市场协调员这个职位的起薪是每年六万二。

So for example, the starting salary for the marketing coordinator position is 62 k a year.

Speaker 0

我们用的词是……

We use the word...

Speaker 0

K这个说法,意思就是一千。

The phrase K to mean a thousand.

Speaker 0

我经常这么说。

I use that a lot.

Speaker 0

你是不是也经常说K?

Do you find yourself saying K a lot?

Speaker 1

是的。

I do.

Speaker 1

我会说六万二K。

I'll say 62 ks.

Speaker 1

有时候我会听别人说六万二美元,但我更倾向于说K。

Sometimes I'll hear people say $62, $62, but I'm more likely to say K.

Speaker 0

我两种都说。

I kind of say both.

Speaker 0

我觉得“Grand”这个词更口语化一些。

Grand is a little more slangy, I think.

Speaker 1

对,我也这么觉得。

Yeah, I think so too.

Speaker 0

但可以说62千,或者说年薪62000,六个月后有绩效评估。

But 62 ks or you could also say 62,000 per year with a performance review after six months.

Speaker 1

或者举个例子,虽然A公司给的起薪更高,但B公司的长期职业发展机会更好。

Or for example example, although company a offered a higher starting salary, company b had better long term career opportunities.

Speaker 1

所以这就是在比较多个工作机会时,对比它们提供的薪资。

So this is where you're comparing salaries offered when you're looking at, multiple job opportunities.

Speaker 0

是的。

Yes.

Speaker 0

然后下一个,基本工资。

And then next one, base salary.

Speaker 0

所以这就是员工可以拿到的固定金额……

So this is kind of the fixed amount of money that employee can...

Speaker 0

每月保证能赚到的钱。

Is guaranteed to earn per month.

Speaker 0

所以这就意味着其他所有东西都可能是奖金、提成、加班费,或者其他福利和激励。

And so that implies that everything else could be a bonus, a commission, overtime, or other perks or incentives.

Speaker 0

明白吗?

Okay?

Speaker 1

没错。

Exactly.

Speaker 1

所以我能理解为什么这会让人困惑,因为起薪和基本工资可能是一样的。

So I could see where this would be confusing that these could be the same starting salary, base salary.

Speaker 1

这更多是关于你在任何奖金和提成之前赚到的钱,尤其是很多销售工作通常都有这种奖金结构。

This is more about what you earn before any bonuses and commission, which a lot of especially sales jobs are often structured with that bonus pay.

Speaker 1

所以基本工资可能比较低,但赚钱的潜力可能相当高。

So the base salary might be lower, but the earning potential could be quite high.

Speaker 0

对。

Exactly.

Speaker 0

比如说,我的基本工资很有竞争力,而且我还能拿到年度绩效奖金。

So for example, my base salary is competitive and I can also earn an annual performance bonus.

Speaker 0

所以……

So...

Speaker 1

或者在面试的时候,我问过基本工资是固定的还是对所有新员工都一样可以谈。

Or during the interview, I asked whether the base salary was negotiable or fixed for all new hires.

Speaker 1

是的,这挺有意思的。

Yeah, this is interesting.

Speaker 1

Lindsay,你觉得面试过程中应该谈薪资吗?

Do you think, Lindsay, that salary should come up in the interview process?

Speaker 1

如果应该的话,什么时候谈?

And if so, when?

Speaker 1

比如在哪个阶段?

Like at what point?

Speaker 0

哦,这有点棘手。

Oh, that's tricky.

Speaker 0

我好久没站在面试者那边了,所以有点难说。

I haven't been on the interviewee side in a while, so it's hard.

Speaker 0

一般来说,我会建议面试的人等到拿到工作offer再谈。

I would say, generally, the advice to people who are interviewing for a job is to wait until you get the job offer.

Speaker 0

然后,你知道,他们知道……

And then, you know, they know...

Speaker 0

你知道他们想要你,所以这时候可以更努力地谈判。

You know they want you, so it's the time to kind of negotiate harder.

Speaker 0

我觉得传统的建议是不要问……

I think the traditional advice is not ask...

Speaker 0

你知道,可能是在……

You know, it probably was in the...

Speaker 0

希望是在职位描述里。

Hopefully, it was in the job listing.

Speaker 0

我知道在某些州,现在法律要求招聘信息里必须写明薪资。

I know in certain states, it has to be listed in the job listing now by law.

Speaker 0

比如在科罗拉多州,你必须列出薪资。

Like in Colorado, you have to list the salary.

Speaker 0

你不能只给个工作机会,却不写明薪资预期。

You can't just have a job offer with no salary expectations listed.

Speaker 1

有意思。

Interesting.

Speaker 1

这对那些只想找……的人来说挺好的。

Which is nice for people looking for just...

Speaker 1

如果完全不知道薪资是多少,去参加面试确实很难。

It's difficult to go into that interview with no idea what the salary is being offered.

Speaker 1

确实棘手。

Tricky.

Speaker 0

天哪。

Oh my goodness.

Speaker 0

当然。

For sure.

Speaker 1

我很好奇在其他文化中是怎么样的,我觉得这个……

I'm curious how this is in other cultures, I feel like this.

Speaker 1

是的,我们有一个全球化的商业文化,但根据国家和文化的不同,关于薪资谈论的程度和入职时的明确程度可能会有很大差异。

Yes, we have a global, you know, business culture, but depending on the country and the culture, this could be very different, how much you talk about it and how clear it is when you're first hired.

Speaker 0

哦,对。

Oh, yeah.

Speaker 0

这非常重要。

It's so important.

Speaker 0

我知道在美国,对于高层职位,你经常……

I know in The US in higher level jobs, you're often...

Speaker 0

特别是在市场营销领域,你经常需要在第二轮或第三轮面试中做一个项目。

Especially in the marketing world, you're often asked to do like a project in your second or third interview.

Speaker 0

所以你可能会在不知道薪资的情况下,和一家公司面试一个月。

So you could go for like a month interviewing with a company without knowing.

Speaker 0

我是说,这太疯狂了。

I mean, that's crazy.

Speaker 0

不知道的话,

The idea of not

Speaker 1

确实。

knowing.

Speaker 1

对,有时候这个过程会很长。

Yeah, sometimes it's a very long process.

Speaker 1

挺棘手的。

Tricky.

Speaker 1

好,我们这里还有几个术语。

Well, we have a couple other terms here.

Speaker 1

首先,我们之前提到过佣金。

First of all, commission, we had mentioned.

Speaker 1

这是通常基于销售业绩或业务成果赚取的钱。

This is money earned that is usually based on sales, business generated performance.

Speaker 1

通常是按销售额的百分比来算的,但也要看情况。

Usually calculated as a percentage of the value of sales, but it depends.

Speaker 0

对,没错。

Yeah, exactly.

Speaker 0

所以你可以说,她的佣金超过了基本工资,因为她那个季度表现特别出色。

So you could say her commission exceeded her base salary because she had an outstanding quarter.

Speaker 1

或者,销售代表每带来一个新客户,就能拿到10%的佣金。

Or the sales rep receives a 10% commission on every new client they bring in.

Speaker 1

是的,这挺有意思的,因为这个词在英语里还有别的用法。

So yeah, this is interesting because we also use this word another way in English.

Speaker 1

我爸爸经常接绘画的委托。

My dad is often painting commissions.

Speaker 1

这种艺术品是别人委托他创作的,而且会提出具体的要求。

And so this is artwork that is commissioned by someone and they're asking for specific details on it.

Speaker 1

所以如果你听到“commission”这个词,要注意它可能跟工资没关系,因为这个词在英语里有好几种不同的意思。

So just be aware if you hear the word commission, it might not have anything to do with salary because we do use this word a few different ways in English.

Speaker 0

这里要小心一点。

Be careful there.

Speaker 0

你可以把它当作动词来用。

You could see it as a as a verb.

Speaker 0

我的意思是,这个词有很多不同的用法。

I mean, there's a lot of different ways to use this word.

Speaker 0

也许我们改天在另一集里再讲。

Maybe we'll do that in a different episode another day.

Speaker 1

那会很有意思。

That'd be interesting.

Speaker 1

最后,我们来说说奖金。

And lastly, we have bonus.

Speaker 1

这是除了员工正常工资之外额外支付的钱。

This is extra money that's paid in addition to an employee's regular salary.

Speaker 1

通常是对出色表现的奖励,可能是公司利润的一部分,或者是达成特定目标的奖励。

Usually for as a reward for strong performance, maybe percentage of company profits or achieving specific goals.

Speaker 0

或者也可以像是销售奖金,但通常佣金是销售奖金更正式的结构,对吧?

Or it could also be like a sales bonus, but usually commission is a more formal structure for sales bonuses, right?

Speaker 0

根据你个人卖了多少。

For how much you personally sell.

Speaker 0

好的。

Okay.

Speaker 0

没错。

Exactly.

Speaker 0

项目上的每个人都因为超额完成业绩目标而获得了年终奖金。

Everyone on the project received a year end bonus for exceeding their performance targets.

Speaker 0

所以是年终奖金。

So a year end bonus.

Speaker 0

有时候你可能会有经理发放的节日奖金之类的。

Sometimes you might have like a holiday bonus that managers will give out, things like that.

Speaker 1

没错。

Exactly.

Speaker 1

或者经理宣布,达到销售目标的员工会获得季度奖金。

Or the manager announced that employees who met their sales goals would receive a quarterly bonus.

Speaker 1

所以是的,奖金可能是按季度发放的,或者像你说的,也许是节日奖金。

So yeah, it could be that the bonuses are like quarterly like that, or like you said, maybe a holiday bonus.

Speaker 1

所以是的,有趣的是,即使告诉你会有奖金,你仍然需要了解具体细节。

So yeah, it's interesting how even if you're told there will be a bonus, you would still need details about that.

Speaker 1

奖金有各种各样的发放方式。

There's all kinds of structures for that.

Speaker 0

对。

Yes.

Speaker 0

你有没有说过英语后感到筋疲力尽?

Have you ever felt exhausted after speaking English?

Speaker 0

不是因为对话很难,而是因为你的大脑在加班加点地翻译、检查语法、寻找词汇。

Not because the conversation was difficult, but because your brain was working overtime to translate, checking grammar, searching for vocabulary.

Speaker 0

但真正的流利其实感觉更轻松。

But true fluency actually feels lighter.

Speaker 0

你花在思考英语上的时间更少,更多的时间用来和人交流。

You spend less time thinking about English and more time connecting with people.

Speaker 0

好的,Aubrey。

All right, Aubrey.

Speaker 0

那我们今天来做个角色扮演。

So we are here for a role play.

Speaker 0

我们现在是商业伙伴,在讨论一个潜在新员工的薪资。

So here we are business partners discussing the salary of a potential new hire.

Speaker 0

好吗?

Okay?

Speaker 0

好的。

Good.

Speaker 1

我先开始吧。

I'll start us out.

Speaker 1

哦,你看了新员工的薪酬方案了吗?

Oh, did you get a chance to review the compensation package for the new hire?

Speaker 0

看了。

Yes, I did.

Speaker 0

起薪对于那个经验水平的人来说似乎有点低。

The starting salary seems a bit low for someone with that level of experience.

Speaker 1

哦,真的吗?

Oh, really?

Speaker 1

我还没看呢。

I haven't looked at it yet.

Speaker 0

基础工资对于入门级来说是有竞争力的,但这个职位不是入门级的。

The base salary is competitive for entry level, but this isn't entry level.

Speaker 0

这个职位不是入门级的。

This role isn't entry level.

Speaker 1

如果有提成和奖金的话,那可以弥补一下。

If there's commission and bonus potential, that could make up for it.

Speaker 0

对。

True.

Speaker 0

但我觉得我们应该提供一个更有竞争力的固定底薪。

But I think we should offer a stronger guaranteed base salary.

Speaker 1

好的。

Okay.

Speaker 1

听起来不错。

Sounds good.

Speaker 1

我今天下午会看一下。

I'll look it over this afternoon.

Speaker 0

好的。

All right.

Speaker 0

对,因为很大一部分是要确保这个职位有竞争力,对吧?

Yeah, because a big part of that is making sure that the position is competitive, right?

Speaker 0

这正是另一方面。没错。

That's the other side Exactly.

Speaker 1

你想吸引人才,吸引那些你愿意共事的人,所以你得让这个职位有竞争力。

You want to attract talent, the kind of people you want to be working with, so you want it to be competitive.

Speaker 1

但确实,这类对话通常就是在这些时候出现得最多。

But yeah, this is definitely when these types of conversations come up the most often.

Speaker 1

比如,如果你在领导层,想确定起薪应该定在什么水平。

For, you know, if you're in leadership and you're trying to figure out what a starting salary should be set at.

Speaker 0

是的,完全正确。

Yes, exactly.

Speaker 0

所以我们在这里聊了一会儿。

So we had a little conversation here.

Speaker 0

所以你说,你有没有机会看一下薪酬方案?

So you said, did you get a chance to review the compensation package?

Speaker 0

然后我说,是的,我看了。

And I said, yes, I did.

Speaker 0

对于那个经验水平的人来说,起薪似乎有点低。

The starting salary seems a little bit low for someone with that level of experience.

Speaker 1

然后你说,基本工资对于入门级来说是有竞争力的,但我们要招的并不是入门级职位。

And then you said the base salary is competitive for entry level, but we're hiring someone that's not an entry level position.

Speaker 1

然后我提到,我说,嗯,如果有提成和奖金,也许可以弥补一下。

And then I mentioned, I said, well, if there's commission and bonus, maybe that could make up for it.

Speaker 0

对。

Yep.

Speaker 0

就这样。

And that was it.

Speaker 0

这就是角色扮演的结尾。

That was the end of the rope play.

Speaker 1

你会说,哦,我觉得我们应该提供一个更有保障的基本工资。

You're like, oh, I think we should offer a stronger guaranteed base salary.

Speaker 1

这很有意思,因为很多人……

This is interesting because a lot of...

Speaker 1

有些人习惯了靠提成和奖金工作,尤其是在销售领域。

Some people are used to working for, you know, commission bonus, especially in the sales field.

Speaker 1

但很多人想要有保障的基本工资,因为那更像是你可以规划的有保障的收入。

But a lot of people want that guaranteed base salary because that's more like, guaranteed funds that you can plan on.

Speaker 0

对,当然。

Yeah, of course.

Speaker 0

绝对是的。

Absolutely.

Speaker 0

知道自己能指望什么,这确实很好。

It's good to have that to know what you can count on is good for sure.

Speaker 1

但确实,你知道,这很有意思,因为很多人如果靠提成工作,他们会更有动力,因为他们必须真正努力才能养家糊口。

But it definitely, you know, it's interesting because a lot of people are pushed more, are motivated by, you know, if they're working on commission, then they're having to like really apply themselves in order to put food on the table.

Speaker 0

我觉得这取决于你的性格。

Think it depends on your personality.

Speaker 0

也许吧,肯定是这样。

Maybe Definitely.

Speaker 0

你的情况……

Yours...

Speaker 0

你处于人生的哪个阶段。

Where you are in your life.

Speaker 0

你是有了家庭还是单身?

Do you have a family or are you single?

Speaker 0

就像,这取决于很多因素。

Like, depends on so many things.

Speaker 0

你喜欢怎么工作。

How you like to work.

Speaker 1

没错。

Exactly.

Speaker 1

有意思。

Interesting.

Speaker 0

是的。

Yes.

Speaker 0

好。

Good.

Speaker 0

各位,还有一集值得去看看。

Another episode to check out, guys.

Speaker 0

什么时候应该让事情顺其自然发展?

When should you let something play out?

Speaker 0

这一集是商务英语06:30。

This is episode, Business English 06:30.

Speaker 0

今天听完之后,去看看吧。

Go and check that out after you finish up today.

Speaker 0

Aubrey,

Aubrey,

Speaker 1

对,是的。

any Yeah.

Speaker 1

最后一集真的很有意思,讲的是让事情自然发展。

Final was a really interesting episode about play out and letting things play out.

Speaker 1

所以千万别错过。

So don't miss Yes.

Speaker 1

还有,最后一点,这真的很有意思,因为这件事跟文化关系很大。

That And yeah, for a final takeaway, this is really interesting how cultural this is.

Speaker 1

如果你在美国的商业文化里工作,在聊到问别人赚多少钱、聊薪水的时候,确实要小心一点,但这种情况完全有可能出现。

If you work in American business culture, you do wanna be a little bit careful around conversations about asking what someone makes asking about salary, but it could definitely come up.

Speaker 1

所以你需要这些词汇。

So you need this vocabulary.

Speaker 0

完全同意。

100%.

Speaker 0

所以,去跟别人开启一段对话吧。

So open a conversation with someone.

Speaker 0

如果你在练习英语,或者你在和母语者聊天,可以问问这些问题。

If you're practicing English or you're talking to a native speaker, ask these questions.

Speaker 0

和朋友聊工资常见吗?

Is it common to talk about salary with your friends?

Speaker 0

深入了解一下这些文化上的细微差别。

Get into some of the cultural nuances.

Speaker 0

这会提升你的英语水平,拉近你们的距离,还能让你获得那种全球性的知识。

This will improve your English, build your connection, and give you that knowledge, that global knowledge.

Speaker 1

完全同意。

Absolutely.

Speaker 1

这个话题真的很有意思。

Really interesting topic.

Speaker 1

谢谢你们发来这个问题。

Thank you for sending it in, guys.

Speaker 1

你也可以像Maxi Galvin那样在YouTube上留下你的问题。

You can also leave your questions on YouTube just like Maxi Galvin did.
