你有没有说过一些事后感到后悔的话?

Have you ever said something you came to regret?

Speaker 1

也许你曾对朋友或家人发脾气,或者给别人起了不那么友善的外号。

Maybe you snapped at a friend or family member, or called somebody a not so kind name.

Speaker 1

很容易因为烦躁或慌乱而说出后悔的话。

It's easy to get annoyed or flustered and say things we regret.

Speaker 1

在今天的故事中,一只鸭子、一只公鸡和一只蓝鸟说了些他们后悔的话,结果不得不吃下苦果。

In today's tale, a duck, rooster, and bluebird say something they regret, and as a result, they have to eat crow.

Speaker 1

我是丽贝卡·谢尔,欢迎来到加利福尼亚州格伦代尔格伦代尔表演艺术中心的《Circle Round》现场演出。

I'm Rebecca Scheer, and welcome to Circle Round live at the Glendale Performing Arts Center in Glendale, California.

Speaker 1

今天我们的故事叫做《晚安太阳》。

Today our story is called Goodnight Sun.

Speaker 1

这个故事的灵感来自越南和印度的传说。

It was inspired by tales from Vietnam and India.

Speaker 1

今天和我一起登台的是一组才华横溢的演员:陈泰德、玛丽·法伯、洪海伦和饶杰西卡。

Joining me on stage is a quartet of talented actors, Theodore Chin, Mary Faber, Helen Hong, and Jessica Rao.

Speaker 1

为本剧提供音乐伴奏的是独一无二的埃里克·施梅洛尼斯。

Providing musical accompaniment is the one and only Eric Schimelonis.

Speaker 1

所以请大家围成一圈,一起来听《晚安太阳》。

So circle around everyone for Good Night Sun.

Speaker 1

很久很久以前,在动物统治世界的年代,有三位最好的朋友:鸭子、公鸡和蓝鸟。

Way, way back in the long ago days when animals ruled the world, there were three best friends, Duck, Rooster, and Bluebird.

Speaker 1

在那些遥远的年代,这三位朋友整天有一大半时间都在抱怨。

And during these long ago days, the Friends spent a good portion of their days complaining.

Speaker 2

太糟糕了。

It's horrible.

Speaker 3

这最糟糕了。

It's the worst.

Speaker 4

比最糟糕的还糟。

It's worse than the worst.

Speaker 2

你可说对了。

You can say that again.

Speaker 4

比最糟糕的还糟。

It's worse than the worst.

Speaker 2

好吧。

Okay.

Speaker 2

所以其实不用真的再说一遍了,蓝鸟。

So no need to actually say that again, Bluebird.

Speaker 2

这是一种习语,一种比喻表达。

It's an idiom, a figure of speech.

Speaker 2

哦。

Oh.

Speaker 1

总之,你可能在想,公鸡、鸭子和蓝鸟认为最糟糕的是什么?

Anyway, you may be wondering, what was it that Rooster, Duck, and Bluebird thought was the worst?

Speaker 1

比最糟糕的还要糟糕。

Worse than the worst.

Speaker 1

没错。

Right.

Speaker 1

好吧,正是所谓的

Well, it was none other than

Speaker 3

The

Speaker 1

每天早晨,太阳都会从东方的海平面上升起。

morning, the sun would rise above the sea to the east.

Speaker 1

每天傍晚,它又会在西方的山后落下。

Every evening, she would set behind the mountains to the west.

Speaker 1

而在日出日落之间的时光里,当太阳在天空中燃烧着它的 fiery 轨迹时,朋友们都会抱怨。

And during the hours between, as she blazed her fiery trail across the sky, the friends would grumble.

Speaker 2

太阳太热了。

Sun is too hot.

Speaker 2

而且还抱怨。

And grouse.

Speaker 2

太阳太亮了。

The sun is too bright.

Speaker 4

而且牢骚不断。

And gripe.

Speaker 4

要是她能干脆别升起来就好了。

If only she would just stop rising.

Speaker 4

那样我们就能终于休息一下了。

Then we could finally get a break.

Speaker 1

鸭子、公鸡和蓝鸟并不是唯一抱怨的。

Duck, Rooster, and Bluebird were not alone in their complaining.

Speaker 1

所有动物都有同样的感受。

All the animals felt the exact same way.

Speaker 1

但你猜怎么着?

But guess what?

Speaker 1

太阳听到了他们说的每一句话,而且她非常不高兴。

The sun could hear every word they uttered, and she was not pleased.

Speaker 2

呃。

Ugh.

Speaker 2

我简直不敢相信这些动物对我有这么多怨言。

I can't believe how much those animals bellyache about me.

Speaker 2

他们整天就是抱怨、牢骚、发脾气。

All they do is grumble and grouse and gripe.

Speaker 2

这种不知感恩的行为让本就炽热的太阳怒火中烧。

This lack of gratitude made the already fiery sun fume with fury.

Speaker 2

毕竟,如果没有她,地球将是一个寒冷、黑暗、荒凉的地方。

Because after all, without her, the earth would be a cold, dark, desolate place.

Speaker 2

这话一点不假。

You can say that again.

Speaker 2

实际上,你能再说一遍吗?

Actually, can you say that again?

Speaker 2

哦,你是说没有她,地球会变得寒冷、黑暗、荒凉。

Oh, you mean without her, the earth would be a cold, dark, desolate place.

Speaker 2

是的。

Yes.

Speaker 2

是的。

Yes.

Speaker 2

我的意思是,你想一想。

I mean, think about it.

Speaker 2

我是那个让世界变暖、保持温暖的人,更不用说我还帮助植物和树木生长了。

I'm the one who heats the world, who keeps it warm, to say nothing of how I help the plants and trees grow.

Speaker 2

所以也许这个世界本该是一个寒冷、黑暗、荒凉的地方。

So maybe the world should be a cold, dark, desolate place.

Speaker 2

意思是说你不该再升起了?

As in you shouldn't rise anymore?

Speaker 2

是的。

Yes.

Speaker 2

蓝鸟不是说过,我比最坏的还要糟糕吗?

Didn't Bluebird say that I am worse than the worst?

Speaker 2

实际上,她说了不止一次。

More than once, actually.

Speaker 2

她还说我不该再升起来了。

She also said I should just stop rising.

Speaker 2

所以你知道吗?

So you know what?

Speaker 2

我就要这么做。

That's exactly what I'll do.

Speaker 2

我不再每天早晨从东方海平面上升起,而是安坐不动。

Instead of rising above the sea to the east each morning, I will sit tight.

Speaker 2

我会放松下来,安顿好,好好歇着。

I'll kick back, settle in, and chill.

Speaker 2

但说实话,真正会蜷缩着发抖在黑暗中的是蓝鸟和她的朋友们。

Though in truth, it'll be Bluebird and her friends who are chilling as they shiver in the dark.

Speaker 1

你猜怎么着?

And guess what?

Speaker 1

事情就是这样发生的。

That's exactly what happened.

Speaker 1

太阳停止了升起和照耀天空,动物们只能颤抖着跌跌撞撞地四处乱走。

The sun stopped rising and blazing across the sky, and the animals were left trembling and stumbling around.

Speaker 1

于是,它们有了一个全新的抱怨理由。

So now they had a whole new reason to grumble.

Speaker 1

太冷了,真烦人。

It's too cold and grouse.

Speaker 3

太黑了。

It's too dark.

Speaker 1

还抱怨。

And gripe.

Speaker 4

要是太阳能再次升起就好了。

If only the sun would rise again.

Speaker 4

那样我们终于能喘口气了。

Then we could finally get a break.

Speaker 1

动物们知道不能再这样下去了,于是鸭子、公鸡和蓝鸟决定去拜访太阳,请求她

The animals knew they couldn't go on like this, so Duck, Rooster, and Bluebird decided they would visit the sun and ask her

Speaker 2

回来。

to come back.

Speaker 2

毕竟,没有太阳的生活太糟糕了。

After all, life without the sun is horrible.

Speaker 3

简直是最糟的。

It's the worst.

Speaker 4

比最糟的还要糟。

It's worse than the worst.

Speaker 2

这话一点不假。

You can say that again.

Speaker 4

这比那什么,哦,对了,还糟。

It's worse than the Oh, right.

Speaker 4

习语。

Idiom.

Speaker 3

你知道吗,朋友们,我完全支持去拜访太阳。

You know, friends, I am all for visiting the sun.

Speaker 3

真的,我支持。

Truly, I am.

Speaker 3

但太阳挂在遥远的东方,真的非常远。

But the sun is hanging out all the way to the east, which is really, really far.

Speaker 4

那又怎样?

So?

Speaker 3

所以,鸭子会飞,蓝鸟会飞,但公鸡的翅膀不适合长途飞行,公鸡的身体也不适合游泳。

So ducks can fly, bluebirds can fly, but a rooster's wings aren't meant for long distance travel, And a rooster's body isn't meant for swimming.

Speaker 2

嗯,鸭子的身体天生就适合游泳。

Well, a duck's body is totally made for swimming.

Speaker 2

那我来游泳,你趴在我背上怎么样?

So how about I swim and you ride on my back?

Speaker 4

我可以飞在你们上面带路。

And I can fly above you leading the way.

Speaker 4

如果太暗看不到我,你可以跟着我的声音走。

If it's too dark to see me, you can follow my voice.

Speaker 4

我会啾啾叫。

I'll chirp.

Speaker 4

什么?

What

Speaker 3

如果鸭子和我掉队了怎么办?

if duck and I fall behind?

Speaker 2

那我就嘎嘎叫。

Then I'll quack quack.

Speaker 3

我会打鸣。

And I'll crow.

Speaker 3

你觉得你能听到那只蓝鸟吗?

Think you'll hear that blue bird?

Speaker 4

我觉得不可能听不到。

I think it's impossible not to.

Speaker 4

来吧,朋友们,我们去见太阳吧。

So come on friends, let's go see the sun.

Speaker 4

希望她正渴望回到我们身边,不会冷落我们。

Hopefully, she'll be burning to come back to us and won't give us a cold shoulder.

Speaker 2

这三位朋友能一路到达太阳那里吗?

Will the three friends make it all the way

Speaker 1

到达太阳吗?

to the sun?

Speaker 1

如果能,她会欣然接受他们的请求吗?

If so, will she take a shine to their request?

Speaker 1

我们稍作休息后就会知道答案。

We'll find out after a quick break.

Speaker 1

我是丽贝卡·谢尔。

I'm Rebecca Scheer.

Speaker 1

欢迎回到《圆圈剧场》现场,地点在加利福尼亚州格伦代尔的格伦代尔表演艺术中心。

Welcome back to Circle Round Live at the Glendale Performing Arts Center in Glendale, California.

Speaker 1

今天我们的故事叫做《晚安,太阳》。

Today our story is called Good Night, Sun.

Speaker 1

在广告之前,太阳停止了从东方海平面上升起。

Before the break, the sun stopped rising above the sea to the east.

Speaker 1

她厌倦了人们抱怨她太亮太热,于是离开了动物们,留下了一个黑暗而寒冷的世界。

Tired of complaints that she was too bright and too hot, she left the animals in a world that was dark and cold.

Speaker 1

鸭子、公鸡和蓝鸟决心把太阳找回来。

Duck, Rooster, and Bluebird were determined to bring the sun back.

Speaker 1

于是他们启程横渡大海,鸭子游泳,公鸡骑在她背上,蓝鸟在前方飞翔。

So they set out across the sea, with Duck swimming, Rooster riding on her back, and Bluebird flying ahead.

Speaker 1

嘿,蓝鸟,

Hey, Bluebird,

Speaker 2

你看到太阳了吗?

do you see the sun yet?

Speaker 4

还没呢,鸭子。

Not yet, Duck.

Speaker 3

现在呢?

How about now?

Speaker 4

还没呢,公鸡。

Not yet, Rooster.

Speaker 2

现在呢?

How about now?

Speaker 4

我不是说了吗,鸭子,还没呢。

I told you, Duck, not yet.

Speaker 4

你们别着急啊?

Can you cool your jets?

Speaker 2

别着急?

Cool my jets?

Speaker 2

如果我的喷气再冷一点,我就成冰鸭子了。

If my jets were any cooler, I'd be a ducksicle.

Speaker 2

这水冷得要命,而且公鸡重得像座山。

This water is freezing and rooster weighs a ton.

Speaker 3

纠正一下,一头大象才是一吨重。

Correction, an elephant weighs a ton.

Speaker 3

一头鲸鱼才是一吨重。

A whale weighs a ton.

Speaker 3

我轻得像片羽毛。

I'm as light as a feather.

Speaker 2

是啊,一吨重的羽毛。

Yeah, a ton of feathers.

Speaker 4

听好了,你们两个。

Listen, you two.

Speaker 4

争吵不会让我们更快看到太阳。

Fighting won't help us reach the sun any faster.

Speaker 4

所以你们能安静点吗,

So can you please pipe down and

Speaker 3

看那个!

Look at that!

Speaker 4

在地平线上,我看到了一丝最微弱、最模糊的光亮。

On the horizon, I see the tiniest, faintest hint of light.

Speaker 4

我们快到了。

We're nearly there.

Speaker 1

朋友们加快了脚步,还没反应过来,他们就已经直视着那张明亮、炽热、生气的脸。

The friends picked up their pace, and before they knew it, they were staring into the bright, blazing, irritated face.

Speaker 1

你想要什么,太阳?

What do you want Of the sun.

Speaker 2

你们三个特地跑到这里来,就是为了告诉我我有多糟糕吗?

Have the three of you traveled all the way out here to tell me how horrible I am?

Speaker 2

说我比最差的还要差?

How I am worse than the worst?

Speaker 1

三人尴尬地对视了一眼。

The trio exchanged a sheepish glance.

Speaker 2

不,孩子。

No, son.

Speaker 2

我们不是来告诉你这个的。

We're not here to tell you that.

Speaker 3

我们是来告诉你,你比最棒的还要优秀。

We're here to tell you you're better than the best.

Speaker 4

我们希望你回来。

And we want you to come back.

Speaker 2

没有你,世界一片黑暗。

The world is so dark without you.

Speaker 3

而且如此寒冷。

And so cold.

Speaker 4

你能不能重新升起呢?

Will you please start rising again?

Speaker 2

开始上升?

Start rising?

Speaker 2

你们希望我开始上升?

You want me to start rising?

Speaker 2

我记得,是你们,蓝鸟,希望我停止上升。

I believe it was you, Bluebird, who wished I would stop rising.

Speaker 2

尽管是我点亮了你的路,温暖了你的世界,帮助了你的植物和树木生长。

Even though it was I who lit your way, who heated your world, who helped your plants and trees grow.

Speaker 2

但你有没有一次感谢过我?

But did you ever once thank me?

Speaker 2

没有。

No.

Speaker 2

相反,你却抱怨、牢骚、不满。

Instead, you grumbled and groused and griped.

Speaker 2

我们很抱歉。

And we're sorry.

Speaker 3

这样对待你是不对的。

It was wrong to treat you that way.

Speaker 4

从今以后,我们会做得更好。

From now on, we'll do better.

Speaker 2

这话一点不假。

You can say that again.

Speaker 4

从今以后,我们会。我什么时候才能明白呢?

From now on, we'll When will I learn?

Speaker 3

不管怎样,我们都需要你,孩子。

Anyway, we need you, son.

Speaker 2

没有你,我们就迷失了。

We're lost without you.

Speaker 4

真的迷路了。

Like, really lost.

Speaker 4

一片漆黑,我们都没好的夜视能力,总是到处乱撞,而且

It's so dark and none of us has good night vision, so we're always stumbling around and

Speaker 2

我是说,我们失去了她,是因为我们爱她,没有她就活不下去,这种意义上的失去。

I meant lost as in we love her and can't live without her, that kind of lost.

Speaker 4

哦,对。

Oh, right.

Speaker 4

也是。

That too.

Speaker 2

那呢?

So?

Speaker 2

你觉得呢,孩子?

What do you say, son?

Speaker 4

你能接受我们的道歉,回来跟我们在一起吗?

Will you accept our apology and come back to us, please?

Speaker 1

太阳默默悬在空中,仿佛在掂量着鸟儿的话,现场陷入了一阵漫长的沉默。

There was a long simmering pause as the sun weighed the bird's words.

Speaker 1

然后呢?

And then?

Speaker 2

是的。

Yes.

Speaker 2

是的。

Yes.

Speaker 2

我接受你们的道歉。

I will accept your apology.

Speaker 2

是的,我会回来。

And yes, I will come back.

Speaker 3

去跑吧。

Go run.

Speaker 3

哇哦。

Woo hoo.

Speaker 3

好。

Yeah.

Speaker 3

然而,

However,

Speaker 2

我担心有一个问题。

I'm afraid there's one problem.

Speaker 2

你看,虽然我很高兴回到你身边,但我已经很久没有完成每天穿越天空的旅程了。

You see, happy as I am to come back to you, it's been so long since I made my daily trek across the sky.

Speaker 2

我担心我会忘记升起。

I'm worried I'll forget to rise.

Speaker 2

鸟儿们都安静了下来,

The birds were quiet,

Speaker 1

接着公鸡打破了沉默。

then rooster broke the silence.

Speaker 3

你知道吗?

You know what?

Speaker 3

别担心,孩子。

There's no need to worry, son.

Speaker 3

作为一只公鸡,我有一副响亮的大嗓门。

As a rooster, I've got a nice, loud voice.

Speaker 3

所以每天早上你该升起的时候,我会用打鸣叫醒你。

So every morning when it's time for you to rise, I'll wake you up with a crow.

Speaker 3

咯咯咯哒。

Cock a doodle doo.

Speaker 4

我也可以帮忙。

I can help too.

Speaker 4

作为一只蓝鸟,我的声音没有公鸡那么响亮。

As a bluebird, my voice isn't as strong as roosters.

Speaker 4

但他叫醒你之后,我会 chirp。

But once he wakes you up, I'll chirp.

Speaker 4

你就会知道该开始你横跨天空的旅程了。

And you'll know it's time to start your trip across the sky.

Speaker 4

而且

And

Speaker 2

如果还需要更多提醒,蓝鸟叫完之后,我会发出嘎嘎声。

in case you need more reminding, after Bluebird makes her call, I will let out a quack.

Speaker 2

嘎嘎。

Quack.

Speaker 1

太阳喜欢这个主意,从那以后,她、公鸡、蓝鸟和鸭子一直遵守着这个约定。

The sun loved the idea, and ever since, she, Rooster, Bluebird, Duck have kept their bargain.

Speaker 1

当公鸡打鸣时,太阳就知道该醒来了。

When Rooster crows, the sun knows it's time to wake up.

Speaker 3

喔喔喔。

Cock a doodle doo.

Speaker 1

当蓝鸟鸣叫时,太阳就知道该开始她横跨天空的旅程了。

When Bluebird chirps, the sun knows it's time to begin her trek across the sky.

Speaker 4

而且只是

And just

Speaker 1

万一她睡过头,鸭子就会叫一声。

in case she slips, Duck lets out a quack.

Speaker 1

直到今天,如果你住在世界某些地方,清晨时分,你都会听到这三位朋友按这个顺序呼唤。

To this very day, if you live in certain parts of the world, come early morning, you'll hear the three friends call out in this very order.

Speaker 1

当它们这样做的时候,太阳就会醒来,从东方升起,向世界展示她那不可或缺且备受珍视的面容。

And when they do, the sun wakes up and rises to the East, showing her much needed and much appreciated face to the world.

Speaker 1

现在轮到你了。

Now it's your turn.
