And today, we have another usage of the phrasal verb to pull up.

So let's check out the dialogue.

这里可以吗，先生？

Is here good, sir?

请把车开到那辆红色汽车旁边。

Pull up to that red car, please.

Behind it?

前面就可以了。

In front is okay.

开到某个地方吧。

Pull up to someplace.

当你在汽车、卡车或类似车辆中时，你可以把车开到某个地方。

When you're in a car or a truck or something like that, you can pull up to a place.

‘开到’的意思是让车辆停下，可能是汽车、摩托车或公交车。

And to pull up means to stop a vehicle or maybe a motorcycle or maybe a bus.

在特定区域停下。

To stop in a particular area.

让我们来看看这段对话。

So let's look at the dialogue.

这里可以吗，先生？

Is good, sir?

这一定是个出租车司机。

This must be like a taxi driver.

明白吗？

Okay?

而这个人会把车停下，以便乘客下车。

And the guy is gonna stop his car so that the passenger can get out.

所以这里可以吗，先生？

So is here good, sir?

这是个合适的停车地点吗？

Is this a good place to stop?

那人说，请停到那辆红色汽车旁边。

And the guy said, pull up to that red car, please.

所以在前方远处，有一辆红色汽车。

So in the distance up ahead, there's a red car.

停到那辆红色汽车旁，意思就是开到那辆红色汽车旁边。

And pull up to that red car means go to that red car.

换句话说，在这种情况下，如果是出租车，我想在红色汽车旁边下车。

So in other words, in this situation, if it's a taxi, I want to get out by the red car.

所以出租车司机说，停在它后面吗？

So the taxi driver says, behind it?

停在红色汽车后面？

Behind the red car?

那个人说，前面就可以。

And the guy says, in front is okay.

其实不是在红车后面，而是在红车前面。

Actually, not behind the red car, in front of the red car.

所以‘停靠’只是指把车停下来，但通常我们会说在某个特定地点停靠。

So pull up simply means to stop your vehicle, but usually we say in a particular place.

停在那栋楼前。

Pull up to that building.

停在那个标志前。

Pull up to that sign.

停在那辆红车前。

Pull up to that red car.

这是一个非常好的表达，我们尤其在开车时使用，特别是在出租车里。

This is an excellent expression and it we use it especially, when we're in a car, especially in a taxi.

如果你看美国电影，看到有人坐出租车，很可能就会听到这个表达。

If you watch American movies and you see somebody in a taxi, then you probably are going to hear this expression.

It's very likely to hear that expression.

如果你载别人，对方可能会对你这么说。

If you're giving a ride to somebody, somebody might say it to you.

Pull up to that bus stop.

我就在那里下车。

I'll get out there.

It's a really, really good expression.
