He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried.

He descended into hell.

On the third day, he rose again.

He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the father.
他还要光荣地降来，审判生者与死者。
He will come again to judge the living and the dead.

Our first meditation.
耶稣是好牧人，来赐予我们丰盛的生命。
Jesus is the good shepherd who's come to give us life in abundance.
但他也说过，贼来是为偷窃、杀害和毁灭。
But he also said the thief comes to steal and kill and destroy.
我们生活中最具破坏力的力量之一就是骄傲。
And one of the most destructive forces in our lives is pride.
并不是因为它总是喧嚣的，而是因为它常常隐藏着。
Not because it's always loud, but because it's often hidden.
骄傲体现在我们试图在没有上帝的情况下，构建自己的身份、证明自己的存在或证实自己的价值的所有方式中。
Pride is all the ways we try to create our identity or validate our existence or prove our worth apart from God.
骄傲并不仅仅表现为过度自信。
Now pride doesn't only show up as overconfidence.
它常常隐藏在焦虑和压力中，体现在过度苛责、仿佛一个错误就会让你不被爱、或在控制欲、过度工作、怨恨，甚至在沉默的绝望中。
It often hides in anxiety and pressure, in scrupulosity, living as if one mistake would make you unlovable, or in the need to control or overwork or in resentment or even in quiet despair.
所有这些表现背后，说的都是同一件事。
All of these say the same thing beneath the surface.
如果我不能把自己维持住，如果我不能掌控一切，我就会变得毫无价值、不被爱。
If I don't hold myself together, if I don't hold everything together, I'll be worthless and unloved.

When you think of your identity and self worth, what do you associate it with most?

Some accomplishment or attribute?

Ask yourself, what is the one thing you fear most to lose?

Is it possible you fear losing it because it gives you your identity and value?

Our second meditation.
如果我们最认同的身份或认为赋予我们价值的东西不是上帝，那么我们的生命就是建立在终将让我们失望的事物之上。
If the thing we most associate our identity with or think makes us valuable is anything other than God, then our life is built on something that will eventually fail us.
除非你知道你的身份和价值来自上帝，你被上帝所爱，否则你永远无法确信自己的价值是真实的，总会需要其他东西来证明它。
Unless you know that your identity and value come from God, that you are loved by God, you can never be sure your worth is real, and you will always need something else to prove it.
职业终有尽头。
Professions come to an end.

Accomplishments fade.
孩子和孙子们对我们的依赖越来越少，我们会变得无关紧要。
Children and grandchildren need us less, and we become irrelevant.
如果我们把价值建立在别人的看法上，那将多么不幸，因为人心善变。
And woe to us to base our worth on the opinion of others because people are fickle.

They're constantly changing their opinion of you.
你在世人眼中的价值总是在起伏波动。
Your value in the eyes of the world is always trending up and then trending down.
如果自己的价值没有保障，你就无法确信它的真实性。
And if there is no guarantee of your value, then you can't be sure it's true.
你会花费所有的时间和精力去努力让它成真，竭尽全力说服他人相信它是真的，并恐惧任何暗示它可能不真实的说法。
And you will spend all your time and energy trying to make it true and all your effort trying to convince others it's true and fearing any suggestion that it might not be true.

The other problem of seeking our identity and worth apart from God is that our defects, our sins, our limitations, our failures, they scream at us that we're worthless.
现在，罪之所以成为一个真正的问题，是因为它让我们质疑自己是否配得良善。
Now here is where sin becomes a real problem because sin makes us doubt our claim to goodness.
罪挑战了我们的自我价值感，这就是我们可能抗拒承认自己罪过的原因。
Sin challenges our sense of self worth, and that's why we could resist admitting our sins.
这也是许多人抗拒耶稣的原因之一，因为承认我们的罪和对救主的需要，或许正是对我们自我和自尊最大的威胁。
And it's one of the reasons many people resist Jesus, because admitting our sin and our need for a savior might just be the greatest threat to our ego and self worth.

But deep down, we know it's true.

We know we are broken, and our defects tell us we're not valuable.

So what's the solution?

是谦卑。
It's humility.
谦卑并不是低估自己。

I was thinking about how in every big action film, there is some sort of plot to distract the hero from saving the world, not just to fight them, but to get them caught up in something that they don't have the chance to even get to whatever final boss there is because they're just too distracted in some small fight on the side and they don't know what the real threat is.

But I was just realizing how futile the fight with pride is and how distracting it is, where I get so caught up in a fight that is constant and that can't be won.
