我先解释一下今天故事里的一些单词。

I'll just explain some words that are in today's story.

红宝石，拼写是 r-u-b-y，是一种红色的宝石。

A ruby r u b y is a red gemstone, a red jewel.

红宝石会发出一种漂亮的红色光泽。

Rubies shine a beautiful red color.

如果你看到某种深红又特别美的颜色，就可以说它是‘宝石红’。

If you see something that is a deep beautiful red, you can say it is ruby red.

悲痛，拼写是 g-r-i-e-f，指的是你深爱的人去世后感受到的深切悲伤。

Grief g r I e f is a deep sadness that you feel after someone you love has died.

很多人会通过哭泣来表达自己的悲痛。

Many people express their grief by crying.

要从失去至亲的悲痛中走出来，往往需要很多年。

It can take many years to overcome grief, to get over the death of a loved one.

仆人是指住在你家里、帮你做事的人。

A Servant s e r v a n t is a person who lives in your house and helps you do things.

比如，仆人会负责打扫、做饭和洗衣服。

For example: Servants do cleaning, cooking and washing.

在过去，仆人是很常见的。

Servants were very common in the past.

英剧《唐顿庄园》讲的就是仆人们的故事。

The British TV show Downton Abbey is about servants.

龙是一种神话生物，在世界大多数文化中都有出现。

A dragon, d r a g o n, is a mythical creature that is found in most cultures around the world.

龙是体型庞大的怪物，长着角和爪子，能喷火，还会吃人。

Dragons are big monsters with horns and claws that can breathe a fire and eat people.

龙喜欢收集宝藏，把它们藏在洞穴里，比如红宝石；常有骑士前来想杀死龙，但大多数都只是成了龙的盘中餐。

Dragons like to collect treasure and hide it in their lair such as rubies and knights come to try and kill the dragon although most of them just get eaten.

在电视剧《权力的游戏》里，丹妮莉丝养了好几条龙。

In the tv series Game of Thrones, Daenerys had several dragons.

女巫是一种邪恶的女人，会施魔法的坏女人。

A witch w I t c h is an evil woman, a very bad woman who does magic.

女巫通常养黑猫当宠物，戴大黑帽，骑着扫帚飞行。

Witches go they have black cats as pets they wear big black hats and they fly on broomsticks.

莎士比亚的戏剧《麦克白》开场就是三个女巫在洞穴里碰面。

The Shakespeare play Macbeth opens with three witches meeting in a cave.

她们念着‘双倍双倍忙又乱，火焰烧，锅子冒泡’，这句话现在成了跟女巫相关的名言。

They say double double toil and trouble fire burn and cauldron bubble which is now a famous expression related to witches.

比如，在《哈利·波特》的一部电影里，霍格沃茨学校的合唱团就唱过这段歌词。

For example in one of the Harry Potter films the choir at the school Hogwarts sings this as a song.

海鸥是一种讨厌、肮脏、胖乎乎的白鸟，嘴巴特别大。

A seagull s e a g u l l is a horrible nasty fat white bird with a big mouth.

抱歉，你大概能听出来，我不太喜欢它们。

Sorry you can probably tell that I don't like them.

海鸥通常生活在海边，但在英国，任何游客众多的大城市都能看到它们。

Seagulls usually live by the sea but in The UK you can find them in any big town with a lot of tourists.

我家乡巴斯到处都是海鸥，因为它们会吃游客掉下来或故意喂给它们的食物。

Seagulls are everywhere in my hometown Bath because they eat food that tourists drop or feed to them.

这就是海鸥的叫声。

This is how a seagull sounds.

Horrible.

不过得说一句，自从我上次在播客里聊海鸥之后，我对它们的厌恶没那么强烈了。

Although, I will say, since I originally talked about seagulls on the podcast, I don't hate them as much.

我搬到伦敦后，看到的海鸥少多了，现在觉得它们就是普通的海鸟，挺可爱的——不过要是它们再偷我的披萨，我一定跟它们没完。

Since I moved to London, I see far fewer seagulls, so I don't mind them now they're just a nice seabird but if they steal my pizza again I will kill them.

勇气就是勇敢，能在恐惧的环境中控制住自己的害怕。

COURAGE means being brave being able to control your fear in a scary situation.

传统上，人们通过参战来展现勇气。

Traditionally people show courage by fighting in wars.

人们说单口喜剧需要勇气，但我觉得这比上战场或者做脑外科手术简单多了。

People say that doing stand up comedy takes courage but I think it's much easier than going to war or doing brain surgery for instance.

不过嘛，如果你觉得我特别有勇气，那我认了。

But hey if you think I have lots of courage then I agree.

奴隶是指被别人拥有、必须为他们干活的人。

A slave s l a v e is a person who is owned by someone else and has to work for them.

奴隶通常住在房子的独立区域，有吃有住，但拿不到工资，也没有基本权利。

Slaves usually live in a separate part of the house they get food and shelter but they are not paid and they usually have no rights.

过去，罗马帝国和大英帝国都曾拥有和贩卖奴隶，而美国的奴隶制度一直持续到1865年才废除。

In the past the Roman Empire and the British Empire kept and sold slaves and slavery continued in The United States Of America until 1865.

砸碎的意思是把某物，通常是玻璃，打成很多小碎片。

Smash s m a s h means to break something into lots of small pieces, usually glass.

漫威有个超级英雄叫浩克。

There is a Marvel superhero called the Hulk.

他总爱喊‘浩克砸了’。

He always says Hulk smash.

要是你把手机摔了，玻璃碎片肯定满地都是，手机也彻底没法用了。

If you smash your phone it's going to get lots of glass everywhere and it definitely won't work anymore.

浴缸就是用来放水泡澡的那个东西。

A bathtub is the thing you put water in to make a bath.

浴缸一般都够长，能让你躺进去，泡在热水里舒舒服服地洗个澡。

Bathtubs are usually long enough to lie down in, so you can lie down in hot water and have a nice bath.

不过在美国，浴缸比英国的短，躺下去特别别扭。

However in America they have shorter bathtubs than in The UK and it is difficult to lie down in them.

我不明白为什么会这样。

I don't know why this is the case.

Three kisses.

很久以前，有一位国王和一位王后。

Once upon a time there was a king and queen.

他们有一个儿子叫戈德温，一个女儿叫莉亚。

They had a son called Godwin and a daughter called Leah.

戈德温英俊强壮，莉亚美丽善良。

Godwin was handsome and strong and Leah was beautiful and kind.

她有一头深红如宝石的长发，和所有人都相处得很好。

She had long ruby red hair and she was friends with everyone.

但有一天，孩子们还小的时候，王后病逝了。

But one day, when the children were still young, the queen got ill and died.

这份悲痛让整个家庭难以承受。

The grief was too much for the family.

国王的悲痛转化成了愤怒，常常对仆人大发雷霆。

The king's grief made him angry and he often shouted at the servants.

莉亚的悲痛让她变得沉默，不再和任何人说话。

Leah's grief made her quiet and she stopped talking to people.

戈德温的悲痛则让他只想离开。

Godwin's grief made him want to leave.

每天看着城堡和家人，他就会想起妈妈，实在受不了了。

Seeing the castle and his family every day made him think of his mother and he couldn't bear it.

于是有一天，Godwin离开了。

So one day Godwin left.

他乘船出海，去寻找冒险。

He sailed away to find a adventure.

他留了张纸条解释原因，但这并没有让父亲或妹妹的悲伤减轻半分。

He left a note which explained this, but this did not make his father or his sister any less sad.

国王不想再失去Leah了。

The king did not want to lose Leah as well.

他注意到她每天都会站在阳台上望着大海，于是就在那里种了一片玫瑰园。

He noticed that every day she stood on her balcony and watched the sea, so he planted a rose garden there.

渐渐地，阳台上长满了数百朵白玫瑰，Leah也慢慢开始说话了。

Slowly, hundreds of white roses grew on the balcony, and with them, Leah began to talk again.

起初她只跟玫瑰说话，后来又开始跟别人交谈了。

She talked only to the roses at first, but then she started talking to people too.

但她似乎还是更爱她的玫瑰，胜过一切。

Still, she seemed to love her roses more than anything else.

有一天，莉亚说：真希望我能给哥哥寄一朵玫瑰。

One day, Leah said, oh, I wish I could send a rose to my brother.

她常常想起戈德温。

She thought often about Godwin.

望着海浪，她想象着他远在天涯，与巨龙搏斗，斩杀女巫。

As she watched the waves, she imagined him in faraway places, fighting dragons and killing witches.

她根本不知道这些是不是真的。

She had no idea if this was true.

她甚至不确定他是否还活着。

She didn't even know if he was alive.

就在这时，一只海鸥飞到阳台附近，莉亚突然有了个主意。

Just then, a seagull flew near the balcony, and Leah had an idea.

喂，海鸥！

Ho there, Seagull.

你能把这朵玫瑰带给我的弟弟吗？

Will you bring this rose to my brother?

海鸥飞了下来，莱亚把玫瑰放进它的嘴里。

The seagull flew down, and Leah put the rose in its mouth.

接着，她亲了鸟三次，两次亲脸颊，一次亲头顶。

Then she kissed the bird three times, twice on the cheek and once on the head.

一次为害怕，一次为勇气，一次为爱，莱亚说。

One for fear, one for courage, one for love, said Leah.

然后海鸥飞过大海，远去了。

Then the seagull flew away across the sea.

多年来，莱亚一直坚持给弟弟送花，每次都会亲那海鸥三下。

For many years, Leah continued to send flowers to her brother, each time giving three kisses to the seagull.

但从没收到过回信，城堡里的仆人们开始议论纷纷。

No reply ever came, and the servants in the castle began to talk.

有人说戈德温被龙吃掉了，也有人说他是被女巫杀死了。

Some said that Godwyn had been eaten by a dragon, and others said that he had been killed by a witch.

国王命令仆人们别再讲这些可怕的话，可话一旦像海鸥一样飞出去，就再也收不回来了。

The king told his servants to stop saying such horrible things, but when words fly like seagulls, nothing can bring them down.

莱亚又沉默了，国王实在不忍心看她这样。

Leah became quiet again, and the king did not want to see her that way.

他觉得她需要母爱，于是给另一个国家发了消息。

He thought that she needed a mother's love, so he sent a message to another country.

他知道那里有一位从未出嫁的公主。

He knew that there was a princess there who had never married.

他送了些莱亚的玫瑰给她，向她求婚。

He sent her some of Leah's beautiful roses and asked her to marry him.

令他惊讶的是，公主答应了。

To his surprise, the princess accepted.

她立刻就来了，虽然美得惊人，却格外古怪。

She came immediately, and although she was very beautiful, she was also very strange.

她话很多，但从不谈自己。

She talked a lot, but she never talked much about herself.

她好像藏着很多秘密。

It seemed like she had many secrets.

她年纪不小了，作为公主来说，国王觉得她大概只是终于有了结婚的机会，所以特别开心。

She was quite old for a princess, of course, so the king thought she was probably just very happy to finally have a chance at marriage.

他们没什么好等的，婚礼几天后就举行了。

They had no reason to wait so the wedding took place a few days later.

莱亚默默看着父亲亲吻这个奇怪的女人，但当她看到父亲开心，自己也跟着高兴起来。

Leah watched silently as her father kissed this strange woman But when she saw that her father was happy, she became happy as well.

不过，莱亚觉得有一件事特别奇怪。

Still, one thing Leah found very strange.

新王后一个随从都没带。

The new queen had brought no servants with her.

事实上，她带的东西少得可怜。

In fact, she'd brought very few things with her at all.

有一天，国王和王后骑马出去时，莱亚进了她的房间。

One day, while the king and the queen were riding horses, Leah went into her room.

她本以为会找到漂亮的珠宝和衣服。

She expected to find beautiful jewelry and clothes.

新王后每天换不同的衣服，可房间里除了床，就只有一张桌子和一个大玻璃瓶。

The new queen wore different clothes every day but all there was was the bed and a large glass bottle on a table.

瓶子里装着一种会变色的液体。

Inside the bottle was a liquid that changed colors.

有时候是黄色，有时候是红色，有时候是绿色，有时候是蓝色。

Sometimes it was yellow sometimes red sometimes green and sometimes blue.

莱亚特别想打开瓶子看看里面是什么，但她是个乖孩子，觉得仆人们很快就会来。

Leah wanted very much to open the bottle and see what it was but she was a good girl and she thought the servants would be coming soon.

可惜她没打开那个瓶子，不然就能发现新王后的秘密了。

It was a shame she did not open the bottle because then she would have discovered the new queen's secret.

瓶子里住着四个幽灵女巫：一个黄巫婆、一个红巫婆、一个绿巫婆，还有一个蓝巫婆。

In the bottle lived four ghost witches a yellow witch, a red witch, a green witch and a blue witch.

她把这四个幽灵女巫关进了瓶子里，现在它们都成了她的奴仆。

She had caught these four ghost witches in a bottle and now they were her slaves.

每天她都会打开瓶子，那四个幽灵女巫就会飞出来。

Every day she opened the bottle and the four ghost witches flew out.

她们为她做新衣服，给她戴上珠宝，让她看起来美丽动人。

They made her new clothes, they covered her with jewelry, and they made her look beautiful.

但这还不足以让女王满足。

But this was not enough for the queen.

在干活的时候，她们还得不停地夸她有多美。

While they worked, they had to tell her how beautiful she was.

你的皮肤像太阳一样金黄，

Your skin is as golden as the sun,

黄女巫说道。

said the yellow witch.

你的头发像红宝石一样鲜红，红女巫说。

Your hair is as red as a ruby, said the Red Witch.

你的衣服像最深邃的森林一样幽深，绿女巫说。

Your clothes are as deep as the deepest forest, said the green witch.

你的眼睛比晴朗的蓝天还要动人，”蓝色女巫说。

And your eyes are lovelier than a clear blue sky, said the blue witch.

说对了，”女王说道，她的仆人们继续干活。

Correct, said the queen, and her slaves kept working.

莉亚从未发现这个秘密，多年来，国王和女王过着幸福的生活，而女王的仆人们则不断让她变得更美。

Leah never discovered this and for several years the king and queen lived happily together while the queen's slaves made her beautiful.

莉亚不再像以前那样忧郁沉默了，但她也谈不上真正快乐。

Leah was not as sad and quiet as before but she was not very happy either.

有一天，一位流浪乐师来到了城堡。

Then one day a traveling musician came to the castle.

他唱着远方的故事，尤其是关于一位名叫戈德温的勇敢男子的歌。

He sang songs about faraway places and in particular he sang about a brave man called Godwin.

莉亚和国王都惊呆了。

Leah and the king were amazed.

戈德温还活着。

Godwin was alive.

音乐家告诉他们，没人比戈德温更勇敢了，他杀过五十条龙和一百个女巫，深受男女老少的爱戴。

The musician told them that none was more courageous than Godwin, that he had killed 50 dragons and a 100 witches, that he was loved by men and women young and old.

唯一听了不高兴的是王后。

The only one who was not happy to hear this was the queen.

够了，”她说。

Enough, she said.

你是个狠心的人。

You are a cruel man.

戈德温十年前就离开了这座城堡，如果他还活着，早就该回来了。

Godwin left this castle ten years ago, and if he was alive, he would have returned.

他只能是死了。

He can only be dead.

现在就走，不然我会让你也落得同样的下场。

Leave now, or I will make sure you end up dead as well.

音乐家离开了，但王后依然放心不下。

The musician left, but the queen continued to worry.

要是戈德温真的回来了怎么办？

What if Godwin did come back?

他肯定会发现她的秘密，还可能想杀了她。

He would surely find out about her secret and probably try to kill her.

女王正为此担忧时，幽灵女巫们帮她准备就寝。

As the queen worried about this, the ghost witches helped prepare her for bed.

她的皮肤像太阳一样金黄，

Her skin is as golden as the sun,

黄女巫说。

said the yellow witch.

她的头发像红宝石一样鲜红，红女巫说。

Her hair is as red as a ruby, said the Red Witch.

她的衣服像最深的森林一样翠绿，绿女巫说，她的眼睛比晴朗的夜空还要迷人，蓝女巫说。

Her clothes are as green as the deepest forest, said the Green Witch, And her eyes are lovelier than a clear below sky, said the Blue Witch.

她？

Her?

女王说道。

Said the Queen.

她？

Her?

你们在说谁？

Who are you talking about?

我们在说莉亚公主。

We speak of the princess Leah,

黄女巫说道。

said the yellow witch.

红女巫说：她现在是个大人了，而且非常漂亮。

She is an adult now and so beautiful, said the red witch.

绿女巫说：我们觉得你应该知道这件事。

We thought you should know, said the green witch.

蓝女巫说：现在大家都觉得她比你更漂亮。

Now everyone thinks she is more beautiful than you, said the blue witch.

这话让女王非常生气。

This made the queen very angry.

她冲着在房间里飞来飞去的幽灵女巫大喊，她们一边哭一边说对不起。

She screamed at the ghost witches who flew around the room and cried, sorry.

她们本指望女王能把那个瓶子摔碎。

They were hoping that she would smash their bottle.

只要女王把瓶子砸了，她们就能获得自由。

If the queen smashed their bottle, they would be free.

女王拿起瓶子，看起来马上就要把它摔在地上了。

The queen picked up the bottle, and it looked like she was just about to smash it.

可就在这时，她想到了一个主意。

But then she had an idea.

去吧。

Go.

去找公主。

Find the princess.

去把她变成有史以来最丑陋的生物。

Go and turn her into the ugliest creature that has ever lived.

好的，女王，幽灵女巫们回答道。

Yes, queen, said the ghost witches.

她们飞走了，没花多久就找到了莉亚。

They flew away, and it did not take them long to find Leah.

她像往常一样站在阳台上。

She was standing on her balcony as usual.

你的呼吸会比太阳还灼热，

Your breath will be hotter than the sun, said the yellow witch.

你的皮肤会像红宝石一样红，

Your skin will be as red as Ruby's, said the red witch.

你的眼睛会像最深的森林一样绿，

Your eyes will be as green as the deepest forest,

绿色女巫说道。

said the green witch.

你的舌头会像大海一样蓝，”蓝色女巫说。

And your tongue will be as blue as the sea, said the blue witch.

她们施展魔法，莉亚开始变成一条龙。

They used their magic, and Leah began to turn into a dragon.

她的皮肤变得坚硬，呈现出红宝石般的红色。

Her skin became hard and ruby red.

她的眼睛变成了绿色，舌头也变成了蓝色。

Her eyes turned green, and her tongue turned blue.

她一呼吸，就会喷出比太阳还炽热的火焰。

When she breathed, fire came out hot as the sun.

在莉亚的体内，依然深藏着对母亲的哀伤。

Deep in Leah's stomach, there was still the grief for her mother.

但在龙的体内，这份哀伤渐渐化作了饥饿。

But in the dragon's stomach, the grief turned to hunger.

那条龙飞走了。

The dragon flew away.

它用巨大的牙齿，把看到的东西全吃光了。

With its huge teeth, it ate everything it found.

有人靠近时，它就喷火烧他们。

And when people came near, it breathed fire on them.

它吃掉了一整片菜地，还吞了十二只羊。

The dragon ate a field of vegetables, and it ate a dozen sheep.

吃饱后，它飞回城堡，把玫瑰园也吃了个干净。

When it was full, it flew back to the castle and ate the garden of roses.

村民们跑去找国王求助。

The people ran to the king and asked for help.

国王也不知道该怎么办。

The king didn't know what to do.

大家从没见过龙，于是王后站了出来。

They had never seen a dragon before so the queen stepped in.

这龙必须除掉，

The dragon must be killed she said.

找全国最强壮的勇士去——不，国王说。

Find the strongest men in the land and No, said the king.

我敢肯定，只有戈德温才能杀死那条龙。

I'm sure only Godwin could kill that dragon.

他看见龙飞过天空，那身红宝石般的鳞片，他认得。

He saw the dragon fly through the sky, and that ruby red skin was familiar.

国王突然有了个主意。

The king had an idea.

把五十个浴缸运到海滩，每个浴缸装一百升牛奶。

Bring 50 bathtubs to the beach and fill the bathtubs with a 100 liters of milk.

人们觉得这主意怪得很，但国王过去总能想出好办法，于是照办了。

The people thought that this was strange but the king had always had good ideas in the past so they did as he said.

他们等龙睡着后，把一百个浴缸抬到阳台下的海滩，每个都装满一百升牛奶。

They waited for the dragon to fall asleep then they carried a 100 bathtubs to the beach below the balcony and filled them with a 100 liters of milk each.

龙醒过来时饿得发慌，立刻闻到了牛奶的香味。

When the dragon woke up it was hungry and it smelled the cow's milk immediately.

它飞下来，把所有的牛奶都喝光了，然后又睡着了。

It flew down and drank all the milk, and then it fell asleep again.

这招真管用。

It had worked.

接下来几天，人们继续给龙送牛奶，它再也不吃别的食物了。

For several days the people continued to bring the dragon milk, and it stopped eating their other food.

但在遥远的海上，情况并不妙。

But far away on the sea not all was well.

戈德温站在他的船上。

Godwin stood on his ship.

这艘船是他几年前让人建的，现在他去哪儿都靠它。

He had had the ship built a few years ago and now he traveled everywhere on it.

平时每天都有只海鸥飞来，给他带来一朵白玫瑰，他总想象那是妹妹送的，但最近几天，海鸥没再来了。

Usually a seagull came every day and brought him a white rose and he liked to imagine it came from his sister but the past few days the seagull hadn't come.

他开始想念家乡了。

He began to think about home.

这么长时间他都没回来，是因为太难过了。

All this time he hadn't returned because of his grief.

也许，是时候回去了。

Maybe it was time to go back.

就在这时，他听见天上传来一阵声响。

Just then he heard a sound from the sky.

是那只海鸥，但它没有像往常那样安静地叼着玫瑰。

It was the seagull, but it was not calmly carrying a rose as usual.

它发出刺耳的尖叫。

It shrieked horribly.

戈德温立刻意识到出事了，马上调转船头往家赶。

Godwin knew something was wrong, and he immediately turned the ship to go home.

他连续航行了好几天，快到家时，看见岸边有一条龙。

For several days, he traveled, and when he came near, he saw a dragon on the shore.

这一周多来，村民们一直在给龙送牛奶，王国里的奶牛都快没奶了。

For over a week now, the people had been bringing milk to the dragon, and the cows of the kingdom were getting drier and drier.

It seemed the dragon could drink 20,000 liters of milk and still want more.

日复一日，王后劝国王除掉这条龙，可他根本不听，王后气得躲进房间，琢磨着怎么达成目的。

Day after day, the queen told the king that they must kill the dragon but he did not listen to her so she got angry and hid in her room trying to think of ways to get what she wanted.

她一看到戈德温的船靠近，就知道必须马上行动。

When she saw Godwin's ship approaching she knew she had to do something.

她喊道。

She said.

她一把抓起瓶子，动作太急，一打开就掉在地上摔碎了。

She picked up the bottle so quickly that when she opened it, it dropped to the floor and smashed.

可王后根本没在意，那些幽灵女巫也一声不吭。

The queen hardly noticed, though, and the ghost witches said nothing.

他们只需要再为女王做最后一件事，就能获得自由了。

They only had to do one last thing for the queen and then they would be free.

女王喊道：去攻击那艘船！

Go and attack that ship cried the queen.

把它彻底打碎，让它沉入大海。

Break it apart so that it falls into the sea.

好的，女王。

Yes queen.

四位幽灵女巫如闪电般飞了出去。

The four ghost witches flew like lightning.

她们本打算冲进船里，把它撞得粉身碎骨，可一撞上去，船却像石头一样坚硬，反而被弹开了。

They were going to fly into the ship and smash it into a thousand pieces but when they hit the ship it was as hard as rock and they fell away.

什么？

What?

女王惊叫道。

Cried the queen.

这怎么可能？

How can it be?

这可不是戈德温第一次对付女巫了，他太了解她们的把戏了。

This was not the first witch that Godwin had fought and he knew their many tricks.

他造船的时候，特意要求用花楸木。

When he had his ship built he specifically asked that they use Rowan wood.

花楸木比其他木材贵，但能阻挡魔法。

Rowan wood was more expensive than other wood but it had the power to stop magic.

好吧，女王说。

Fine, said the queen.

去杀了戈德温。

Go and kill Godwin.

其他人可以活命，但戈德温必须死。

The others can live, but Godwin must die.

可那些幽灵女巫却没有任何反应。

But the ghost witches did not respond.

女王四处寻找他们，却怎么也找不到踪影。

The queen looked for them, but they were nowhere to be seen.

他们已经潜入了大海。

They had disappeared into the sea.

很快，戈德温的船靠了岸，那条龙也醒了。

Soon Godwin's ship pulled onto the shore, and the dragon woke up.

戈德温准备好迎战并杀死这头怪物，可海鸥突然叫了起来。

Godwin was ready to fight and kill the monster, but the seagull cried something.

什么？

What?

戈德温问道。

Said Godwin.

这时龙正盯着他，眼神里透着饥饿。

The dragon was looking at him now, and it looked hungry.

三个吻。

Three kisses.

三下亲吻，海鸥说。

Three kisses, said the seagull.

戈德温听不懂，但他仔细看了看那条龙。

Godwin didn't understand but then he looked at the dragon more closely.

那红宝石般的皮肤，还有那双绿眼睛，看起来好眼熟。

That ruby red skin looked familiar and those green eyes.

戈德温举起双手说：只要你别伤害我，我也不会伤害你。

I will not hurt you, said Godwin, and he put his hands in the air, if you do not hurt me.

龙盯着他看了一会儿，然后低下头来。

For a while, the dragon looked at him, then it lowered its head.

戈德温亲了龙三次，两次亲在脸颊，一次亲在头顶。

Godwin kissed the dragon three times, twice on the cheek and once on the head.

一次为勇气，一次为恐惧，一次为爱。

One for fear, one for courage, one for love.

突然间，龙开始发生变化。

Suddenly, the dragon started to change.

那丑陋的皮肤变成了金色的阳光。

The ugly skin turned into golden sunshine.

一头红宝石般的秀发从她头上长了出来。

Ruby red hair grew from its head.

她穿上了一身翠绿如深林的衣裳，双眼比晴朗的蓝天还要动人。

It put on clothes as green as the deepest forest, and its eyes became more beautiful than a clear blue sky.

她就是莉亚公主。

It was the princess Leah.

天哪，姐姐。

Oh brother, sister.

戈德温和莉亚紧紧相拥，哭了很久。

Godwin and Leah hugged and cried for a long time.

国王看到这一幕，立刻跑过来，一家人坐在沙滩上聊了几个小时，笑声不断。

The king saw what had happened and came running and for hours the family sat on the beach talking and laughing.

最后，国王问是谁把莉亚变成了龙，莉亚这才说出她在王后卧室里看到的一切。

Finally the king asked who could have turned Leah into a dragon and Leah explained what she had seen in the queen's bedroom.

他们三人冲了进去，结果只找到一些碎玻璃和一朵黑玫瑰。

The three of them ran there, but inside all they found was some broken pieces of glass and a black rose.

没人知道这朵玫瑰是从哪儿来的。

Nobody knew where the rose had come from.

多美的玫瑰啊，莱亚说。

Oh, what a beautiful rose, said Leah.

她伸手想去拿。

She went to take it.

可就在这时，海鸥从窗户飞进来，一口把玫瑰吞了下去。

But just then, the seagull flew through the window and ate the rose.

莱亚惊得说不出话，只憋出一个‘哦’。

Leah was so surprised that all she could say was, oh.

从那天起，王后再也没有出现过，那些幽灵女巫也彻底消失了。

After that day, the queen never came back, and the ghost witches were never seen again.

戈德温和妹妹、父亲一起度过了许多漫长的岁月，他总有讲不完的故事给他们听。

Godwin lived many long, years with his sister and his father, and he never ran out of stories to tell them.
