Today's pre intermediate story is called Herding Mountains to Make a Forest.

Speaker 1

这个故事来自中国的一个少数民族——撒尼人。

So today's story comes from the Sani people in China.

Speaker 1

撒尼人是彝族的一个分支,彝族是中国55个官方认定的少数民族之一。

So the Sani are a subset, they are a smaller part of the Yi, YI, Yi ethnic minority, there are 55 officially recognized ethnic minorities in China.

Speaker 1

中国大多数人口是汉族,但还有傣族、哈尼族、白族,你可能听说过的一些民族,比如哈萨克族、乌兹别克族、朝鲜族等等。

So the majority of Chinese citizens are Han, but you also have Dai, he, Gino, some you might have heard of, like Kazakh, Uzbek, Korean, and so on.

Speaker 1

这个故事来自中国西南部云南的撒尼人。

And this story comes from the Sani people who come from Yunnan in Western China.

Speaker 1

在讲这个故事之前,我想跟大家分享一下我是怎么找到它的,因为这对我来说是一次特别圆满的相遇。

So before I tell the story, I want to give a bit of the background about how I found this story because it was kind of a full circle moment for me.

Speaker 1

所谓圆满的相遇,就是你经历了一件事,恰好为一段旅程画上了句号,让一切有了完整的呼应。

So a full circle moment is when you have an experience that kind of finishes a story, it ties everything together.

Speaker 1

我是在石林发现这个故事的,石林在云南,是个挺有名的旅游景点。

So I found this story in Stone Forest or in Chinese Shilin, which is a tourist attraction in Yunnan.

Speaker 1

它其实是一片石头森林,属于喀斯特地貌,因为特殊的地质条件,岩石形成了像树一样尖锐挺拔的形状,特别漂亮,去那里游玩很方便。

It is a, well, it's a forest made of stone, it's an area of Cast Mountain, where basically certain geological conditions caused the rocks to make these very distinct kind of sharp, tree like shapes, and it's very beautiful, and you can go and visit it.

Speaker 1

那为什么去石林对我来说是一次圆满的相遇呢?

So why was going to Stone Forest a full circle moment for me?

Speaker 1

我从2010年开始学中文。

Well, I started studying Chinese in 2010.

Speaker 1

那已经是很久以前了,十六年前,我刚上大学的时候。

Oh, that's a long time ago, sixteen years, when I first went to university.

Speaker 1

我去牛津学中文,但课程里有不少地方我不喜欢,比如太陈旧了,重点全放在古文和中国历史上,而现代汉语教得简直一塌糊涂。

I went to Oxford to study Chinese, and there were various aspects of the course I didn't like, I didn't like how old fashioned it was, I didn't like that it focused so heavily on, like, classical Chinese and Chinese history, and then the modern Chinese was taught, in my opinion, very poorly.

Speaker 1

全是那种老掉牙的语法练习、翻译作业,用的教材都过时了,课文里人人都管对方叫‘同志’。

Like, it was the most kind of traditional boring grammar exercises, translation, you know, using an outdated textbook where everyone still called each other comrade.

Speaker 1

这种教语言的方式,既枯燥又低效,实在提不起兴趣。

It was just a very uninspired and honestly ineffective way of teaching a language.

Speaker 1

所以在那儿学了一年后,我决定退学。

So after studying there for a year, I decided to drop out.

Speaker 1

我决定离开牛津,去学语言学。

I decided to leave Oxford University to go and study linguistics.

Speaker 1

我其实考虑过在牛津转专业,但他们语言学必须搭配一门语言,我不确定自己想这么选,我更想单独学语言学,于是休学一年重新申请,最后去了剑桥学语言学。

I did consider changing courses at Oxford, but they only offer linguistics with a language, and I wasn't sure that I wanted to do that, I kind of wanted to just do linguistics by itself, so I took a year out to reapply and I ended up going to Cambridge to study linguistics.

Speaker 1

这么说吧,至少最后我可以说,我既在牛津也上过剑桥。

So I did okay, because in the end, I can say that I studied at both Oxford and Cambridge.

Speaker 1

但说回来,这段经历让我对中文产生了复杂的情绪,因为退学后我基本就停了中文学习,后来也有些后悔。

But anyway, this experience left me with some complicated feelings about Chinese, because I pretty much stopped studying Chinese after I dropped out, and later on, I maybe had some regrets.

Speaker 1

总觉得有件事没做完,不是说我对中文或中国文化没兴趣,只是那时候的时机、方式和环境都不对。

I thought there was something that was left unresolved, cause it wasn't like I had no interest in studying Chinese or Chinese culture, but it just wasn't the right time and style and place for me to be doing it.

Speaker 1

而且说实话,当时我真的很需要自己做这个决定,因为我根本没想清楚大学该学什么,甚至有点被推着做了选择。

And also, to be honest, I, at that point, really needed to just make that decision for myself because I didn't really choose what I wanted to do at university or rather I was very undecided and I slightly felt like I was just pushed into making that decision.

Speaker 1

我原本打算学日语,但所有大学课程都是零基础起步,也就是从零开始。

I was going to do Japanese at university but all of the university courses were ab initio which means starting from scratch, starting from zero.

Speaker 1

我当时日语已经说得很好了,再从零开始学一门语言,感觉真的挺傻的。

And I already spoke really good Japanese, so it seemed really stupid to study a language from scratch when I already spoke it.

Speaker 1

对吧?

Right?

Speaker 1

所以别人都说,那你干脆学中文吧。

So people said, oh, you should just do Chinese.

Speaker 1

你不是已经会日语了吗?

You already speak Japanese.

Speaker 1

你不是挺有语言天赋的吗?

You're good at languages.

Speaker 1

你干脆学中文好了。

You should do Chinese.

Speaker 1

我就随大流听了别人的建议,可后来我才意识到,不对劲。

So I kind of just did what people told me, and then later on, I was like, no.

Speaker 1

我想自己做决定,这正是我后来退学、转去学语言学的原因。

I wanna make this decision for myself, which is why I dropped out and ended up doing linguistics.

Speaker 1

总之,我对中文一直有种复杂的情绪,之后也没怎么认真学,就随便碰了那么一点点。但到了2023年,我参加了在法国南部举办的AGEN研讨会,那是个专门讲用讲故事方式教语言的会议,像我这样的老师都会去。会上有个语言工作坊,每天早上你都会去旁听其他老师用不同语言上课。

So anyway, I was left with these complicated feelings about Chinese, I didn't really study it or I studied it like a tiny bit after that, but then in 2023, I went to the AGEN workshop, which is a language teaching conference in the South Of France, it's a conference for people who teach languages using storytelling such as me, and at this conference they do language labs, So every morning you go and observe classes from another teacher in a variety of languages.

Speaker 1

于是我去了一个中文工作坊,授课的是黛安·诺伊鲍尔。

So I went to a Chinese language lab where Diane Neubauer was teaching.

Speaker 1

黛安·诺伊鲍尔是一位非常出色的美国中文教师,我旁听了她的中文课,

So Diane Neubauer is a fantastic American teacher of Chinese, and I observed her Chinese language lab,

Speaker 0

那真是一段特别美好的体验,因为我第一次以一种很对的方式学中文——教得特别好,温暖、亲切、有耐心,还特别有趣。

and it was just a lovely experience because I got to learn Chinese in a good way, like taught really well, taught in a very warm, approachable, patient and fun way.

Speaker 0

黛安整个课程都围绕着石林和撒尼人展开,因为她曾经住在中国云南。

And the whole course that Diane did was based around the Stone Forest and the Sani people because she had lived in Yunnan, China.

Speaker 1

这种教学方式很不一样,因为通常大家提到中国,讲的都是汉族——这个国家的主体民族,少数民族的事儿几乎听不到。

So it was a really different approach because obviously most information about China just focuses on the Han people who are the ethnic majority in the country, and we don't really hear much about the ethnic minorities.

Speaker 1

用这种方式了解中国文化,感觉特别温馨又新鲜。

So it was a lovely different way to learn about Chinese culture.

Speaker 1

了解石林的故事让我特别向往,心里就冒出一个念头:总有一天,我要去云南看看。

It was lovely to learn about Stone Forest, and it just really left me with this feeling of, oh, one day I would like to go to Yunnan.

Speaker 1

你猜怎么着?

And guess what happened?

Speaker 1

那一天真的来了。

That day came.

Speaker 1

我有点说快了。

But I'm getting a bit ahead of myself.

Speaker 1

上完那门课后,我对中文又重新产生了兴趣。

After I did that course, it revived my interest in Chinese.

Speaker 1

它让我再次想学中文。

It made me interested in learning Chinese again.

Speaker 1

我跟着黛安·诺伊鲍尔上了网课。

I did an online course with Diane Neubauer.

Speaker 1

我开始自己学,看YouTube视频、听播客、读书。

I started doing self study through watching YouTube videos, listening to podcasts, reading.

Speaker 1

但去年,我终于搬到了中国。

But then finally, last year, I moved to China.

Speaker 1

这自然让我的中文学习变得更加投入了。

So that certainly made my Chinese study a bit more intense.

Speaker 1

不过,就像我说的,我一直想去云南,一个月前我本来计划和父母去柬埔寨,结果发现最划算的航班是先飞到云南的昆明,待一天,再转飞柬埔寨的暹粒。

But yeah, as I said, I knew I wanted to go to Yunnan at some point, and then a month ago I was planning on going to Cambodia with my parents and the best flight option was to fly to Kunming, which is in Yunnan, stay a day there and then fly to Siem Reap in Cambodia.

Speaker 1

这样一来正好,我在昆明有一整天时间,可以去石林,那儿打车离市区一个半小时左右。

So it was perfect because I had a day in Kunming, and I could go to the Stone Forest, which is about an hour and a half by taxi from the city.

Speaker 1

这简直再理想不过了。

So it was actually the ideal situation.

Speaker 1

当然,我很想再回昆明,多待些日子,把云南其他地方也逛一逛。

Obviously, would love to visit Kunming again and spend more time there and visit more of Yunnan.

Speaker 1

那里是全球蘑菇种类最丰富的地区,作为个爱吃菌子的美食爱好者,我觉得特别有意思。

It is the area with the highest diversity of mushrooms in the world, and I find that very exciting as someone who loves food and mushrooms.

Speaker 1

石林的人比我想象中多太多了。

Stone Forest was a lot busier than I expected.

Speaker 1

中国的旅游业特别热闹,也特别成熟。

Tourism is very boisterous in China, and it's very developed.

Speaker 1

我以为这里会像英国那些自然景点一样,就一个停车场, maybe 有几个小吃摊和厕所,就没了。

So, you know, I think I had this image that it would be like these nature sites in The UK where there might be like a car park and maybe some food stalls and some toilets, but that's it.

Speaker 1

结果完全不是,一进去就有个大型游客中心,坐上观光车,然后一路上全是摊位和餐馆,回来的时候更夸张,整条长廊都是餐厅和商店,下车后又是一大片商铺和建筑,我觉得有点太商业化了。

But no, it was like, oh, there's a big tourist information center, you get a bus in, then there's a bunch of stalls, and there's a food places, and then when you come back, there's a whole, like, massive corridor of, like, restaurants and shops, and then the bus drives you back to another place where there are, like, all of these shops and buildings, and I found it a bit over touristy.

Speaker 1

人也多得出乎意料。

It was also surprisingly busy.

Speaker 1

我是在农历新年第一天去的,那年是马年,本来以为人会少点,毕竟大家应该都在家团聚,但看来本地人也想找地方出来走走。

I went on Lunar New Year's Day, the first day of the year of the horse, and I think I thought it would be less busy because I guess I thought people would be spending time with their family, but I guess people, local people, were looking for something to do.

Speaker 1

人确实很多,但风景还是特别美。

So there were a lot of people that still it was very beautiful.

Speaker 1

我发现很多当地导游都是撒尼族人,都穿着传统服饰带游客参观。

It was interesting to see that all the local tour guides, there were a lot of local Sani tour guides, and they all traditional clothes as they guide people around.

Speaker 1

在石林的时候,我才知道这个名字其实是上世纪三十年代一位中国官员起的。

While at the Stone Forest, I learned that the name actually comes from a Chinese governor in the nineteen thirties.

Speaker 1

当时云南省的省长来这边视察,觉得这地方太美了,就给它起了名,还让人在石头上刻了‘石林’两个字,挺有意思的。

The Chinese provincial governor of Yunnan was traveling in the province, and he came to Stone Forest and thought it was beautiful, so he named it and he asked them to carve the characters for Stone Forest into one of the rocks, which is kind of funny.

Speaker 1

这种做法挺有殖民色彩的。

It's it's a very colonial kind of way of doing things.

Speaker 1

对。

But yeah.

Speaker 1

所以起初,我觉得这里对撒尼人来说是个神圣或重要的地方,但当时并没有这种正式命名的地位。

So originally, I think it was a kind of sacred or important site for the Sani people, but it didn't have this kind of named status,

Speaker 0

要不要

shall

Speaker 1

我们来说。

we say.

Speaker 1

在石林漫步的时候,我还发现了它的起源故事。

While wandering the Stone Forest, I also discovered the origin story.

Speaker 1

撒尼人有一个很美的传说,讲述了这片森林是如何形成的,今天我们要讲的就是这个故事。

So the Sani people have a lovely myth about how this forest came to be, and that's exactly the story we're doing today.

Speaker 1

如果你有机会去云南,我真的很推荐你去石林看看。

I do recommend you visit the Stone Forest if you happen to go to Yunnan.

Speaker 1

我觉得这地方挺棒的。

I think it's a cool place.

Speaker 1

如果你喜欢奇特的岩石景观,谁不喜欢呢?这地方绝对值得一去,只是尽量避开旺季。

If you like cool rock formations, and who doesn't love a cool rock formation, it's definitely worth visiting, but try to avoid the peak season.

Speaker 1

幸运的是,云南的一大优点就是全年气候都很宜人。

Fortunately, one of the best things about Yunnan is it basically has good weather all year round.

Speaker 1

昆明被称为‘春城’,全年温度都在二十到二十五度之间,什么时候来都合适。

Kunming is known as the city of eternal spring, it ranges from 20 to 25 degrees all year, so you can go at basically any time.

Speaker 1

虽然石林并没有像我当初期待的那样,变成一个充满魔力的瞬间,但能在这里体验这一切,正好让我想起了当初重新开始学中文的初衷——这简直像画上了一个圆满的句号,你看,我做到了。

So although the Stone Forest wasn't this beautiful, magical moment that I had maybe hoped it would be, it did feel like a full circle moment to have the reason I got back into studying Chinese with Diane Neubauer to have this experience, it kind of brought it all together, like, look at me.

Speaker 1

我现在住在中国。

I live in China now.

Speaker 1

就像我当年在牛津一起学中文的朋友说的,我来中国,就像当年如果我没放弃那个专业,本该有的那一年海外经历。

And as my friend said, who I studied with way back in Oxford in the day, me coming to China is a bit like me during the year abroad that I would have done if I had stayed studying that degree.

Speaker 1

我不太想说得太感性,但过去我确实对在中国、学中文、还有退学这些事,有很多羞愧感。

And I don't know, not to get too emotional about it, I really did have a lot of shame based around China, learning Chinese, dropping out to university.

Speaker 1

这件事我憋在心里很久了。

It was something I carried around for a long time.

Speaker 1

所以来中国对我来说是个艰难的决定。

So coming to China was a really difficult decision.

Speaker 1

我真的花了好大勇气才下定决心:不管以前怎样,这次我一定要做下去。

Like, it really took me a lot of courage to say, no, I am going to do this, even though I dropped out before.

Speaker 1

其实吧,以前有没有上过大学、学没学过中文、有没有中途退学,这些都不重要,我现在做的这个决定完全是另一回事,而且我过得特别开心。

When, of course, actually, that doesn't matter, you know, whether I studied Chinese at university before or didn't, whether I had dropped out or finished, this decision is a completely separate thing that I'm enjoying very very much.

Speaker 1

是的。

So yes.

Speaker 1

好的。

Okay.

Speaker 1

我来解释一下今天故事里的一些词。

I'll just explain some words in today's story.

Speaker 1

一群动物叫一个 herd,比如一群羊、一群猪、一群牛,等等。

A herd is a group of animals, a herd of sheep, a herd of pigs, a herd of cows and so on.

Speaker 1

赶牲畜的时候,你会把它们集中在一起移动。

When you herd animals, you move them together in a group.

Speaker 1

比如,牧羊人就会赶羊。

For example, shepherds herd sheep.

Speaker 1

牧羊人会用一种叫德国牧羊犬的狗来帮忙赶羊。

Shepherds use a special dog called a German shepherd to help herd the sheep.

Speaker 1

他们把羊赶到不同的草场,让羊能吃到各种各样的草。

They herd the sheep and move them around different fields so they can eat all the different grass.

Speaker 1

桶是一个圆形的容器,用来装水。

A bucket is a round thing that you use to carry water.

Speaker 1

桶的大小跟垃圾桶差不多。

Buckets are about the size of rubbish bins.

Speaker 1

你会把桶装满水,或者沙子、牛奶之类的东西,然后提着把手把它搬走。

You fill the buckets up with water or maybe sand or milk or something like that, and then you pick up the handle of the bucket and carry it.

Speaker 1

我们去海滩玩的时候,也会用桶来堆沙堡。

We also use buckets when we go to the beach to build a sand castle.

Speaker 1

灵魂就像幽灵一样。

A spirit is like a ghost.

Speaker 1

在一些文化里,人们相信灵魂就住在我们体内。

In some cultures, they believe that spirits live inside us.

Speaker 1

通过魔法,我们的灵魂可以离开身体,四处飘荡。

With magic, our spirits can leave our bodies and fly around.

Speaker 1

在某些文化中,人们认为人死后,灵魂就会离开躯体。

In some cultures, people believe that when you die, your spirit leaves your body.

Speaker 1

还有一些文化认为,灵魂存在于岩石、树木、河流这些地方。

And in some cultures, spirits live in rocks, trees, rivers, and so on.

Speaker 1

命令就是你让人去做某件事。

An order is when you tell someone to do something.

Speaker 1

比如,你的上司可能会让你写一份报告。

For example, your boss might order you to write a report.

Speaker 1

命令可以是口头的,也可以是书面的。

Orders can be written or spoken.

Speaker 1

书面命令通常比较正式。

A written order is usually quite formal.

Speaker 1

鞭子,w-h-i-p,是一种长条状工具,用来从远处抽打动物。

A whip, w h I p, is a long object that you use to hit animals with from far away.

Speaker 1

你得在空中挥动鞭子,然后用它抽中目标。

You swing a whip around in the air and then strike the thing you want to hit with it.

Speaker 1

鞭子抽起来会发出‘啪’的一声。

Whips make a sound like whipsh.

Speaker 1

印第安纳·琼斯用鞭子荡过深谷,或者够远处的物品。

Indiana Jones uses a whip to swing across big gaps and to get objects from far away.

Speaker 1

但平常人不会这么用鞭子。

That's not normally the way whips are used.

Speaker 1

平时不使用鞭子的时候,它通常是卷起来的。

When you're holding a whip but not using it, it's usually rolled up.

Speaker 1

但当你想用的时候,就得把它展开。

But when you want to use the whip, you unfurl it, spread it out.

Speaker 1

你得先把鞭子展开,才能在空中挥动。

You have to unfurl the whip so you can swing it in the air.

Speaker 1

水坝是建在大河上的堤坝。

Dams are walls that are built on top of large rivers.

Speaker 1

水坝能拦住河水,把水积起来,供周边地区使用。

Dams stop a river's flow and collect the water so that it can be used to provide water for an area.

Speaker 1

海狸用木头筑坝,造出一片水域,这样就能躲开想吃它们的动物,冬天还能把食物存在那里。

Beavers build dams out of wood to make an area of water where they are protected from animals that want to eat them, and they can store their food there over winter.

Speaker 1

公鸡就是雄性的鸡。

A rooster is a male chicken.

Speaker 1

公鸡比母鸡体型更大,羽毛也更鲜艳。

Roosters are larger and more colorful than hens, female chickens.

Speaker 1

公鸡还会在早上大声打鸣。

Roosters also crow, call out loudly in the morning.

Speaker 1

‘Freeze’ 和它的过去式 ‘froze’ 指的是东西变得非常冷的状态。

Freeze and the past tense is froze is what happens when something goes very cold.

Speaker 1

水变得很冷的时候,就会结冰。

When water gets very cold, it freezes.

Speaker 1

如果河或湖结冰了,你就能在上面走路。

If a river or a lake freezes, you can walk on it.

Speaker 1

如果外面特别冷,你可以说:‘哎呀,真冷啊。’

If the weather is very cold outside, you can say, oh, it's freezing.

Speaker 1

如果你在移动,然后突然停下来,那就是冻住了。

If you are moving and then you suddenly stop moving, you freeze.

Speaker 1

比如,警察要抓人的时候,就会喊:‘别动!’

For example, when the police want to catch someone, they say, freeze.

Speaker 1

是警察。

It's the police.

Speaker 1

明白了。

Okay.

Speaker 1

所以仔细听,好好享受。

So listen and enjoy.

Speaker 1

赶着山去造一片森林。

Herding mountains to make a forest.

Speaker 1

很久以前,撒尼人生活非常贫困。

Once, a long time ago, the Sani people were very poor.

Speaker 1

天下雨的时候,他们用桶接雨水来喝。

When it rained, they caught the rain in buckets and drank the water.

Speaker 1

但不下雨时,桶就空了,人们只能干渴着。

But when it didn't rain, their buckets went empty and the people went thirsty.

Speaker 1

有时候渴得厉害,连路都走不动。

Sometimes they were so thirsty that they could not move.

Speaker 1

撒尼人中有一位英雄,名叫金分若嘎。

Among the Sani was a hero, a man named Jinfenroga.

Speaker 1

金分若嘎不仅力气大,还特别聪明。

Jinfenroga was not only strong but also clever.

Speaker 1

他打过无数架,但从没输过;也从没在辩论中败过。

He had never lost a fight and he had never lost an argument either.

Speaker 1

一天,经过长时间的酷热干旱,金芬罗加看着空空的水桶,对族人们说:我们不能再这样干等着下雨了。

One day after a long period of hot dry weather, Jinfenroga looked at the empty buckets and said, my people, we cannot go on waiting for the rain like this.

Speaker 1

如果水不来找我们,那我就去把水带来。

If the water will not come to us, then I will bring it to us.

Speaker 1

于是,金芬罗加等到夜里,便出发了。

So Jinfurl, Rooger waited for night and then set off.

Speaker 1

他先去了那些奇异精灵居住的洞穴。

First, he went to the caves where strange spirits lived.

Speaker 1

他悄悄溜进去,因为精灵们正在睡觉,顺走了两件宝物:移山令和牧山鞭。

He went quietly inside because the spirits were sleeping and stole two valuable objects, the mountain moving order and the mountain herding whip.

Speaker 1

这些精灵以前靠这两样东西躲着撒尼人。

The spirits used these to hide from the Sani.

Speaker 1

每当撒尼人靠近,精灵们就移动山峦,让撒尼人找不到他们。

When the Sani came near, the spirits would move the mountains so that the Sani could not see them.

Speaker 1

等撒尼人一走,精灵们又把山搬回原位。

And when the Sani left, the spirits would return the mountains to their usual places.

Speaker 1

但金芬罗格根本没打算用这些魔法物品来做那件事。

But Jinfenroger did not plan on using the magic objects for that.

Speaker 1

相反,他走到一片高耸连绵的群山之间。

Instead, he walked to a place with many long tall mountains.

Speaker 1

他举起山移令,开始念诵起来。

He held up the mountain moving order and began to read it.

Speaker 1

金凡德罗格是萨尼族中少数会识字的人,他知道文字的力量有多强大。

Jinfandrogar was one of the few in the Sani who knew how to read, and he knew how powerful reading could be.

Speaker 1

提克塔克塔克,拉克拉克,蒙蒂尼,敦蒂尼,斯利利威利,霍尔威尔斯,移动乌尤沃。

Tick a tuck tuck, a rack, a rack, montiny, duntiny, skilly willy, His or wills or move oo yoo voo.

Speaker 1

瓦克利,瓦克利,啪。

Wackily, wackily, whack.

Speaker 1

随着他念出咒语,群山开始缓缓移动。

As he read the magic words, the mountains began to move.

Speaker 1

起初,它们只是轻微晃动,就像一个孩子从深睡中醒来一样。

At first, they only shook slightly, like a child waking from a deep sleep.

Speaker 1

但慢慢地,它们开始跳着跑起来,好像长出了脚,急着要去什么地方似的。

But slowly, they began to jump and run as if they had grown feet and were in a hurry to get somewhere.

可还没等这些山跑远,金芬罗格就展开山群鞭,使出全身力气一挥。

But before the mountains could run away, Jinfun Rooger unfurled the mountain herding whip and swung it with all his strength.

Speaker 1

呼——

Whoosh.

Speaker 1

鞭子抽在地上,所有山都吓得尖叫起来。

The whip struck the ground and all the mountains screamed in fear.

Speaker 1

当然,要是山能说话的话。

Or they would have, if mountains could talk.

Speaker 1

它们全都聚成了一团,有些吓得直发抖,等着听金芬罗格说什么。

They all moved into one group, some so scared they were shaking and waited to hear what Jinfenroger had to say.

Speaker 1

山啊,我的族人已经干渴太久了。

Mountains, my people have been thirsty for too long.

Speaker 1

我要修一座水坝,而你们,得帮我。

I am going to build a dam and you are going to help me.

Speaker 1

你们得跟我一起去河边,躺下来让我拦住水流,这样我的子民就永远有水喝了。

You will come with me to the river and lie down so that I can dam the water and my people will always have something to drink.

Speaker 1

明白了吗?

Understood?

Speaker 1

要是山有脑袋,这时候肯定拼命点头。

If the mountains had heads, they would have been nodding them furiously.

Speaker 1

于是,金芬罗加带着这群山出发了。

So Jinfenroga set off with the mountains.

Speaker 1

他们翻山越岭,穿行在起伏的地形里,时而直行,时而绕道。

They walked through the hills up and down, straight and around.

Speaker 1

要是哪座山走得慢了,金芬罗加就会展开驱山令,念几句咒语。

When a mountain was too slow, Jinfenroga opened the mountain moving order and said some magic words.

Speaker 1

快点走。

Hurry up us.

Speaker 1

要是有山脱离了队伍,他就展开驱山鞭,冲着它抽过去。

And when a mountain moved away from the group, he unfurled the mountain herding whip and swung at them.

Speaker 1

很快,所有的山都整齐有序地移动起来。

Soon, all the mountains were moving quickly and orderly.

Speaker 1

连那些灵体也没跟在他们后面。

None of the spirits seemed to be following them either.

Speaker 1

但当他们经过一片田野时,太阳刚刚升起。

But as they passed through a certain field, the sun was starting to rise.

Speaker 1

这片田野里住着一只神奇的公鸡。

In this field lived a magic rooster.

Speaker 1

每天早上,这只公鸡都会打鸣,叫醒所有的灵体。

Every morning, the rooster crowed to wake up the spirits.

Speaker 1

今天早上也是一样。

This morning was no different.

Speaker 1

那只神奇的公鸡昂起头,大声啼叫。

The magic rooster held his head high and crowed loudly.

Speaker 1

山们听到后,惊讶得当场僵在原地。

The mountains, hearing this, were so surprised that they froze in place.

Speaker 1

吉芬·鲁格试图念出山体移动的口令。

Ginfin Rooger tried reading from the mountain moving order.

Speaker 1

懒洋洋的,像朵雏菊一样。

Lazy, lazy, like a daisy.

Speaker 1

他挥舞了十几下牧山鞭,可一点用都没有。

And he unfurled and swung the mountain herding whip a dozen times, but it was no use.

Speaker 1

那些山彻底冻住了。

The mountains were well and truly frozen.

Speaker 1

所以今天,在云南的某个地方,你找不到大坝,只有一片石林。

And that is why today, in a certain area of Yunnan province, you will not find a dam, but a stone forest.

Speaker 1

清晨,你会听到公鸡嘹亮得想忽略都难的啼鸣。

In the morning, you will hear the crow of a rooster loud and impossible to miss.

Speaker 1

如果你仔细听,或许还能听见吉芬·鲁格对着石头大喊,挥着鞭子。

And if you listen closely, you might even hear Jinfurl, Roger shouting at the stones and swinging his whip.

Speaker 1

故事结束。

The end.

Speaker 1

希望你们今天喜欢这个故事。

Well, I hope you enjoyed today's story.

Speaker 1

你们了解我,我特别喜欢这类起源故事。

You know me, I love a good origin story.

我最爱那些解释事物为何如此、为何存在的传说。

I love a myth that tells us why something is the way it is, why something exists.

Speaker 1

看到这个故事的时候,我直接就心动了。

So when I saw this story, I was like, yes.

And in other news, I am back.

Speaker 1

前几期节目我是一次性录完的。

The last few episodes I recorded batched.

Speaker 1

我是一口气录完的。

I recorded them back to back.

Speaker 1

其实这些是很久以前录的,那时候我正在度假,不过现在我度假回来了。

So, like, I recorded them a really long time ago because I was on holiday, but I'm back from holiday now.

Speaker 1

我跟父母去了柬埔寨,感觉特别棒。

I went to Cambodia with my parents, it was really great.

Speaker 1

工作已经重新开始了,这学期是第二学期,我也一直在锻炼,一切都挺顺利的,不过更多细节,下周一我做对话节目时再跟你们细聊。

I've started at work again, it's semester two, I've been doing lots of exercise, everything is going very well, but you'll hear lots more about that next week when I do a conversational episode.

Speaker 1

啰啰嗦嗦说了这么多,我知道你们就爱听这个。

Blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah I know that's what you all love to hear.

Speaker 1

你们就喜欢听我一个人没完没了地讲。

You love to hear me just talk and talk and talk.

Speaker 1

不管怎样,谢谢你们收听本期节目。

Anyway, thank you for listening to today's episode.

Speaker 1

祝你今天过得愉快,我们很快再见。

Have a wonderful day and see you soon.

Speaker 1

再见。

Bye.
