Hello, my lovely learners, and welcome to Easy Stories in English, the podcast that will take your English from okay to good and from good to great.

Speaker 0

我是你的主持人 Ariel Goodbody。

I am Ariel Goodbody, your host for this show.

Speaker 0

今天的故事是中级初级水平的,名叫《动物和平派对》。

Today's pre intermediate level story is called The Animals Peace Party.

Speaker 0

和往常一样,文本和PDF版本可在easystoriesinenglish.com上找到,链接在描述中。

As always, the transcript and PDF are available at easystoriesinenglish.com and you can find the link in the description.

Speaker 0

今天的故事也改编自玛丽·海耶斯·戴维斯和赵龙收集的中国寓言和民间故事。

Today's story is also adapted from Chinese fables and folk stories by Mary Hayes Davis and Chao Lung.

Speaker 0

我说‘也’是因为我们之前还讲过这个集子里的另一个故事,但我已经忘记名字了。

I say also because we had another story from this collection which I have forgotten the name to.

Speaker 0

等一下。

One second.

Speaker 0

月亮是如何变美的。

How the moon became beautiful.

Speaker 0

那集也是基于这个故事集制作的。

That is the episode that I made also based on this collection of stories.

Speaker 0

所以你看,我的记忆力非常好,记忆力超群,而且比平时更好,因为昨晚我去参加了朋友的生日派对,我们唱了卡拉OK,很明显,喝酒真的能让第二天的记忆变得更牢固。

So as you can see, my memory is functioning very well, I have a brilliant memory and it's even better than normal because last night I went out for my friend's birthday party, we did karaoke and obviously drinking alcohol really makes your memory stronger the next day.

Speaker 0

另外,如果我的声音听起来有点沙哑,h-o-a-i-s-e,像马(horse),那可能是因为今年是马年,h-o-r-s-e。

Also, if my voice sounds a bit hoarse, h o a I s e, like horse, then maybe that's because it's the year of the horse, h o r s e.

Speaker 0

今年是马年,所以我声音听起来像马。

It's the year of the horse, so I sound horse.

Speaker 0

真是个糟糕的笑话。

What a terrible joke.

Speaker 0

或者可能是因为我昨晚喝酒了。

Or maybe it's because I was drinking last night.

Speaker 0

谁知道呢?

Who knows?

Speaker 0

什么事都有可能。

Anything is possible.

Speaker 0

好吧。

Okay.

Speaker 0

我来解释一下今天故事里的一些单词。

I'll just explain some words that are in today's story.

Speaker 0

Filthy,拼写是 f-i-l-t-h-y,意思是非常脏。

Filthy, f I l t h y, means very dirty.

Speaker 0

如果孩子出去玩泥巴,回家时会浑身脏兮兮的,妈妈很可能不会高兴。

If a child goes out and plays in the mud, they will come home filthy and their mother will probably not be happy.

Speaker 0

如果你走进一家餐厅,发现里面很脏,你大概就不想在那里吃饭了,因为你可能会生病。

If you go inside a restaurant and it is filthy, you probably won't want to eat there as you might get sick.

Speaker 0

Greedy,拼写是 g-r-e-e-d-y,意思是想要很多食物或很多钱。

Someone who is greedy, g r e e d y, wants to have lots of food or lots of money.

Speaker 0

孩子常常很贪婪,总是想吃更多的食物和甜点。

Often children are greedy and always want to eat more food and sweets.

Speaker 0

我无法理解,我从来不想吃很多食物和甜点。

I can't understand this, I never want to eat lots of food and sweets.

Speaker 0

也许他们因为太贪婪而偷其他孩子的食物。

Maybe they steal food from other children because they are so greedy.

Speaker 0

通常当成年人贪婪时,意味着他们想要越来越多的钱。

Usually when adults are greedy, it means that they want more and more money.

Speaker 0

钱真美味。

Money delicious.

Speaker 0

争议,d i s p u t e,是指人与人或组织之间的争论或分歧。

A dispute, d I s p u t e, is an argument, a disagreement between people or organisations.

Speaker 0

争议可能持续很长时间,因此最好尽快解决争议。

Disputes can last a long time so it is a good idea to settle disputes.

Speaker 0

人们可以通过交谈并找到妥协来解决争议,国家之间解决争议的方式也类似。

People might settle a dispute by talking about it and finding a compromise, and countries settle disputes in a similar way.

Speaker 0

让两个发生争执的普通人坐下来谈话,远比让两个交战国家的领导人坐下来谈要容易得多。

It's just it's much easier to get two normal people who have had an argument in a room to talk than leaders of two countries that have been at war.

Speaker 0

例如,主人是指有他人为自己工作的人。

For example, a master is someone who has people who work for them.

Speaker 0

过去,许多人拥有仆人或奴隶,这些人是他们仆人的主人。

In the past, many people had servants or slaves and these people were masters of their servants.

Speaker 0

在这个故事中,主人是所有动物所居住的农场的拥有者。

In this story, the master is the owner had of the farm where all the animals live.

Speaker 0

‘Amongst’ 意为‘在……之中’、‘在……之间’。

Amongst, a m o n g s t, means among, between, in the middle of.

Speaker 0

我们常在‘彼此交谈’这个短语中使用它。

We often use it in the phrase talk amongst yourselves.

Speaker 0

例如,如果你即将做演讲,但电脑出了问题,还没准备好开始,你可能会说:‘我修好之前,你们先互相聊聊。’

For example, if you are about to give a presentation but you're having problems with the computer and you're not ready to start, you might say talk amongst yourselves while I fix this.

Speaker 0

这基本上意思是和你周围的人交谈。

It basically means talk with the people around you.

Speaker 0

农场工人是指在农场工作的人。

A farmhand is someone who works on a farm.

Speaker 0

农场工人通常从事体力劳动,比如喂养动物、清理它们的活动区域等。

Farmhands are usually people doing manual labor such as feeding the animals, cleaning their areas, and so on.

Speaker 0

当你偏爱某人时,你更喜欢他们,给予他们比其他人更好的待遇。

When you favor someone, f a v o u r, you prefer them, you give them better treatment over others.

Speaker 0

‘favorite’(最喜欢的)这个词就来源于此。

This is where the word favorite comes from.

Speaker 0

作为一名老师,我不应该偏袒某个学生而忽视其他学生,但有时这很难做到。

As a teacher, I shouldn't favor one student over others, but it's sometimes difficult.

Speaker 0

有些学生就是比其他学生更有趣、更可爱。

Some of them are just funnier and cuter than others.

Speaker 0

如果父母偏袒一个孩子而忽视其他孩子,情况会特别糟糕。

It's especially bad if a parent favors one child over another.

Speaker 0

在过去,国王们常常会偏爱长子,这是很常见的现象。

This was common with kings in the past, they would usually favor their firstborn son over the others.

Speaker 0

智慧(wisdom)意味着有智慧,能够做出良好的判断并理解复杂的思想。

Wisdom, w I s d o m, means being wise, being able to make good judgments and understand difficult ideas.

Speaker 0

很多人可以很聪明,但智慧是不同的。

Many people can be intelligent, but wisdom is different.

Speaker 0

智慧意味着你也很擅长判断人和事。

Wisdom means you are also good at judging people and situations.

Speaker 0

例如,《狮子王》中的木法沙就非常有智慧。

For example, Mufasa from The Lion King is very wise.

Speaker 0

他教辛巴许多关于世界的道理,这就是智慧。

He teaches Simba many lessons about the world, that is wisdom.

Speaker 0

你嘴里后边长出来的、只有成年后才出现的牙齿叫智齿,因为人随着年龄增长会变得更聪明。

The teeth at the back of your mouth that only come up when you're an adult are called wisdom teeth because you get wiser as you get older.

Speaker 0

通常如此。

Usually.

Speaker 0

不过,智齿常常会引起问题,必须拔掉。

Anyway, wisdom teeth often cause problems and have to be removed.

Speaker 0

所以这并不太聪明,对吧?

So that's not very clever, is it?

Speaker 0

尖叫声,s-q-u-e-a-l,是一些动物发出的高音调声音。

A squeal, s q u e a l, is a high pitched sound that some animals make.

Speaker 0

猪会尖叫,豚鼠也会。

Pigs squeal, and so do guinea pigs.

Speaker 1

但是

But

Speaker 0

豚鼠的尖叫声比普通猪可爱多了。

guinea pig squeals are much cuter than regular pigs.

Speaker 0

好的。

Okay.

Speaker 0

所以请仔细听,好好享受。

So listen and enjoy.

Speaker 0

动物和平派对。

The animals peace party.

Speaker 0

猪是所有动物中最肮脏、最贪婪的。

Pigs are the filthiest and greediest of all animals.

Speaker 0

这一点众所周知,在这个故事中也是如此。

This is known everywhere and in this story it is no different.

Speaker 0

从前,有一个满是动物的农场,马和牛决定举办一场派对。

Once there was a farm full of animals and the horses and cows decided to throw a party.

Speaker 0

尽管猪又脏又贪,马却说:我们还是邀请它们吧。

Although the pigs were filthy and greedy, the horses said, let's invite them

Speaker 1

并把这当作一个与他们化解矛盾的机会。

and take it as a chance to settle our disputes with them.

Speaker 1

也许我们甚至能成为朋友。

Perhaps we could even become friends.

Speaker 1

我们可以称之为和平派对。

We can call it a peace party.

Speaker 1

几代猪都闯入我们的土地,偷走我们的食物,喝我们的水,吃我们的草。

Generations of pigs have broken into our land, taken our food, drunk our water, eaten our grass.

Speaker 1

但同样真实的是,许多小牛和马也曾伤害过猪。

But it is also true that many young cows and horses have hurt the pigs.

Speaker 1

主人不喜欢我们争吵,所以让我们举办这场和平派对,彻底解决我们的矛盾。

The master does not like us fighting, so let us throw this peace party and settle our disputes once and for all.

Speaker 1

是的。

Yes.

Speaker 1

这是个好主意。

It is a good idea,

Speaker 0

奶牛们说道。

said the cows.

Speaker 0

于是动物们讨论了该由谁来领导,他们选了一头非常小但善良的奶牛。

So the animals discussed who should be their leader, and they chose a very small, kind cow.

Speaker 0

第二天,领导奶牛去邀请猪群。

The next day, the leader cow went to the pigs to invite them.

Speaker 0

猪们正在泥地里玩耍,浑身脏兮兮的。

The pigs were playing in the dirt and they were filthy.

Speaker 0

当它们看到奶牛时,小猪们跳了起来,冲她哼叫。

When they saw the cow, the young pigs jumped up and grunted at her.

Speaker 2

你们想干什么?

What do you want?

Speaker 0

它们尖叫起来。

They squealed.

Speaker 2

你们是来打架的吗?

You here to fight?

Speaker 1

不,牛说。

No, said the cow.

Speaker 1

我来是邀请你们参加我们和马匹举办的派对。

I am here to invite you to a party that we and the horses are throwing.

Speaker 1

请告诉我你们是否会来。

Please let me know if you will come.

Speaker 1

这会非常有趣。

It will be a lot of fun.

Speaker 0

一头猪说。

Said a pig.

Speaker 2

我们需要时间考虑。

We need time to think.

Speaker 2

你先走吧,我们会告诉你我们的决定。

Go away and we'll let you know what we decide.

Speaker 0

于是牛离开了,猪们彼此讨论起来。

So the cow left and the pigs talked amongst themselves.

Speaker 2

你觉得会是怎样的贫困?

What kind of poverty do you think it will be?

Speaker 0

一头猪说。

Said one pig.

Speaker 2

牛是无牙的。

Cow's a no fang.

Speaker 2

我们别

Let's not

Speaker 3

走吧,另一个说。

go, said another.

Speaker 1

不,

No,

Speaker 3

第三个说。

said a third.

Speaker 3

就只是

Just

Speaker 2

我觉得那是个派对。

think it's a party.

Speaker 2

在派对上会有

At parties there

Speaker 3

食物。

are food.

Speaker 3

牛和马经常能吃到好东西。

The cows and the horses often have good food.

Speaker 2

我们可以去吃个够,然后回家。

We can go and eat as much as we want and then go home.

Speaker 3

我去告诉他们一下,

I'll go and let them know,

Speaker 0

一只老胖猪说。

said an old fat pig.

Speaker 0

其他猪都同意了。

The other pigs all agreed.

Speaker 0

这头猪很能说,许多奶牛都害怕他。

This pig was a good talker, and many of the cows were scared of him.

Speaker 0

于是他去告诉奶牛和马,猪们要去参加派对。

So he went and told the cows and horses that the pigs would go to the party.

Speaker 0

到了那天,盛况空前,共有300只动物聚集在一起。

When the day came it was a huge celebration 300 animals all together.

Speaker 0

有食物,有饮料,所有人都在笑,在跳舞。

There was food and drink and everyone was laughing and dancing.

Speaker 0

猪们狼吞虎咽地吃着,但每个人都很快乐。

The pigs ate greedily, but everyone was happy.

Speaker 0

这场和平派对似乎真的能成功。

It seemed like this peace party might actually work.

Speaker 0

终于,到了发言的时刻。

Finally, the moment came to talk.

Speaker 0

奶牛们的领袖,那只瘦小而善良的奶牛,走上前来发言。

The leader of the cows, that small, kind cow, came forward and spoke.

Speaker 1

我们会坦诚相告,猪们,那头牛说。

We will be honest, pigs, said the cow.

Speaker 1

我们邀请你们来,不仅是为了庆祝,更是为了达成和平。

We have not just invited you here to celebrate, but also to make peace.

Speaker 1

我们厌倦了农场上的争端。

We are tired of disputes on the farm.

Speaker 1

你们的人能否停止闯入我们的土地、偷吃我们的食物、喝我们的水、吃我们的草?

Can your people stop breaking into our land, taking our food, drinking our water, and eating our grass.

Speaker 1

那样的话,我们会确保我们的小牛和马儿不再伤害你们的人。

We will then make sure our young cows and horses do not hurt your people.

Speaker 0

我们的纷争将被遗忘,我们终将迎来和平。

Our troubles will be forgotten, and we will finally have peace.

Speaker 0

马儿们微笑了。

The horses smiled.

Speaker 0

猪群 surely 无法拒绝这个提议。

Surely the pigs could not say no to this argument.

Speaker 0

但站起来说话的是那只年老的肥猪。

But it was the old fat pig who got up to speak.

Speaker 3

这片土地不属于你们,

This land does not belong to you,

Speaker 2

猪说道。

said the pig.

Speaker 3

这片土地属于主人。

This land belongs to the master.

Speaker 3

你们不明白吗?

Do you not understand?

Speaker 3

我们无处可去寻找食物。

We cannot go anywhere else for our food.

Speaker 3

每天主人都会派农工给我们送食物,有时他还派我们到你们家吃你们的食物。

Every day the Master sends farmhands with food to us and sometimes he sends us to your home to eat your food.

Speaker 3

每天农工都会打扫我们的家,夏天还会给我们提供干净的水洗澡。

Every day the farmhands clean our home and in the summer they give us fresh water to bathe in.

Speaker 3

所以,朋友们,你们难道看不到吗?

So friends, can you not see?

Speaker 3

这片土地不属于我们,它属于主人。

This land is not our land, it is the Master's.

Speaker 3

他决定我们该做什么,而他已经决定,我们在你们吃完后吃你们剩下的食物。

He chooses what we do and he has decided that we should eat your food after you are finished.

Speaker 3

我们只吃你们不吃的东西,如果我们不吃,这些食物就会变质。

We only eat the food that you do not eat, and if we did not eat it, then it would go bad.

Speaker 0

所有的猪都发出了赞同的声音。

The pigs all made sounds of agreement.

Speaker 0

一匹马试图说话,但那只老肥猪继续说着。

One of the horses tried to speak, but the old fat pig continued.

Speaker 3

你们回答我,我们的族人可曾伤害过你们的族人?

And answer me this, have our people ever hurt your people?

Speaker 3

没有。

No.

Speaker 3

然而每年你们的小牛和马都会杀死一些我们的猪。

Yet every year your young cows and horses kill some of our pigs.

Speaker 3

食物和生命,哪个更有价值?

What is worth more, food or life?

Speaker 3

如果你死了,食物就毫无意义。

Food is nothing if you are dead.

Speaker 3

此外,主人并没有派我们去干活。

Besides, the master does not send us to do work.

Speaker 3

主人偏爱我们。

The master favors us.

Speaker 3

他让你们的牛和马一年到头都干活,即使你们生病了,而我们却可以随心所欲地玩耍。

He sends you cows and horses to work every day of the year, when you are sick, but we are allowed to play as long as we want.

Speaker 3

他并没有这样偏待你们。

He does not favour you in this way.

Speaker 3

你们或许觉得他不公平,但我们有什么资格评判呢?

You may think he is unfair, but who are we to say?

Speaker 3

主人让我们长得肥壮快乐。

The master lets us grow fat and happy.

Speaker 3

你从没见过我们的骨头。

You never see our bones.

Speaker 3

现在看看你们的一些马,只剩下骨头了。

Now look at some of your horses, nothing but bone.

Speaker 3

朋友们,你们有什么问题吗?

Friends, have you any questions?

Speaker 3

我想没有。

I think not.

Speaker 3

我所说的一切都是真的。

Everything I have said is true.

Speaker 3

主人偏爱我们,而主人最懂道理。

The master favors us, and the master knows best.

Speaker 3

我们不要质疑他的智慧。

Let us not question his wisdom.

Speaker 0

马和牛互相看着对方。

The horses and cows looked at each other.

Speaker 0

它们不知道该对猪说什么。

They did not know what to say to the pig.

Speaker 0

确实,主人知道的比它们多得多,它们总是听从主人的吩咐。

It was true that the master knew much more than they did, and they always did what the master told them.

Speaker 0

那头温顺的小奶牛叹了口气。

The small, kind cow sighed.

Speaker 1

谢谢你们来参加我们的派对,

Thank you for coming to our party,

Speaker 0

她说。

she said.

Speaker 0

猪离开了,牛和马彼此交谈起来。

The pigs left, and the cows and horses spoke amongst themselves.

Speaker 0

我不明白,

I do not understand,

Speaker 1

一匹马说。

said one horse.

Speaker 1

我们比猪更强壮、更聪明、更有用。

We are stronger, wiser, and more useful than the pigs.

Speaker 1

为什么主人不偏爱我们呢?

Why does the master not favor us?

Speaker 1

我的朋友们,

My friends,

Speaker 0

另一匹马说,主人比我们更聪明。

said another horse, the master is

Speaker 1

比我们更聪明。

wiser than us.

Speaker 1

如果我们无法理解他的智慧,那就这样吧。

If we cannot understand his wisdom, so be it.

Speaker 1

他偏爱猪。

He favors the pigs.

Speaker 1

这是真的。

It is true.

Speaker 1

让我们忘记我们的争执吧。

Let us forget our disputes.

Speaker 1

新年快到了,一头牛说。

It will soon be the new year, said a cow.

Speaker 1

愿所有猪在这世上幸福生活。

May all pigs live happily in this world.

Speaker 0

但那头牛听起来并不开心。

But the cow did not sound very happy.

Speaker 0

与此同时,猪们正一路尖叫着回家。

Meanwhile, the pigs were walking home, squealing all the way.

Speaker 2

我们赢了,我们赢了,我们赢了,

We won, we won, we won,

Speaker 0

他们尖叫着。

they squealed.

Speaker 0

那只老肥猪没有尖叫。

The old fat pig did not squeal.

Speaker 0

他没有那个力气。

He did not have the energy.

Speaker 0

但他很开心。

But he was happy.

Speaker 0

他面前还有许多漫长的日子可以吃喝玩乐。

He had many long days of eating and playing ahead of him.

Speaker 0

毕竟,主人想要的不就是这个吗?

After all, that was what the master wanted, wasn't it?

Speaker 0

故事结束。

The end.

Speaker 0

哦,这到底意味着什么?

Oh, what does it all mean?

Speaker 0

我实话告诉你,当我第一次读这个故事时,我并不确定它的含义。

I will be honest, when I first read this story, I was not sure of the meaning of the story.

Speaker 0

我不是很明白这个信息是什么。

I didn't quite understand what the message was.

Speaker 0

这些故事集的每个故事结尾都有些小寓意,告诉你它们的含义,但这个故事真的非常模糊。

The collection of stories has, like, little messages at the ends of each story that tells you the meaning of them, but this one was really unclear.

Speaker 0

要不我念给你听吧?

Why don't I read it to you, actually?

Speaker 0

为什么有些人拥有更多的权力?

Why have some more power than others?

Speaker 0

只有一个人知道。

Only one knows.

Speaker 0

为什么有些人活得更久?

Why have some longer life than others?

Speaker 0

只有一个人知道。

Only one knows.

Speaker 0

为什么有些人努力了却没成功,而有些人根本没努力却成功了?

Why do some try and not succeed while others do not try and yet they do succeed?

Speaker 0

只有一个人知道。

Only one knows.

Speaker 0

我现在才意识到,这其实有歧义,因为对我来说,'只有一个人知道'意味着有一个人知道所有这些问题的答案,我猜这暗示那个人是主人。

Now I just realized, actually, this is ambiguous because to me, only one knows implies that, yeah, there is one person who knows the answers to all these questions, and I guess it's implying that that person is the master.

Speaker 0

你可以从基督教的角度来解读,对吧?认为主人是上帝,但考虑到这是一个中国故事,如果真是这个意思,我会非常非常惊讶。

You could read into this in a Christian way, right, that the master is God, but given that this is a Chinese story, I would be very very surprised if that was the interpretation.

Speaker 0

但另一方面,也许写下这些故事的美国女性改变了原意,使其更符合基督教的诠释。

But then again, maybe the American woman who wrote these stories down kind of changed the interpretation to make it more Christian.

Speaker 0

另一方面,这可能是一种老式的说法,意思是'只有天知道'。

On the other hand, this could be an old fashioned way of saying one only knows.

Speaker 0

'只有天知道'的意思是我们不知道。

One only knows means, we don't know.

Speaker 0

对吧?

Right?

Speaker 0

就是说,根本无从知晓。

Like, it's impossible to know.

Speaker 0

比如,为什么会有战争呢?

Like, oh, why do wars happen?

Speaker 0

谁知道呢。

One only knows.

Speaker 0

对吧?

Right?

Speaker 0

当我们这么说时,意思是没有任何答案,事情本来就是这样。

When we say this, we mean there is no answer, it's just the way of things.

Speaker 0

所以也许‘只有一个人知道’是这种表达的一种变体,意思是说我们不知道任何事情的意义,这非常——我想说——是道家的。

So maybe only one knows is a variation of that expression, in which case this is saying we don't know the meaning to anything, which is very, I guess, Taoist.

Speaker 0

这更像是一种中国哲学,也许这个故事的真正含义就是我们根本不知道为什么主人偏爱猪而不是牛和马。

It's more kind of Chinese philosophy, so maybe that is the meaning of this story that we just don't know why the master favors the pigs over the cows and horses.

Speaker 0

所以改编这个故事相当困难,因为显然我不希望改动太多而改变原意,但我也不是很确定它的真正含义是什么。

So it was quite difficult to adapt this story because obviously I didn't want to change too much and change the meaning, but then I wasn't really sure what the meaning was.

Speaker 0

所以我很好奇想听听你的解读。

So I'm curious to hear your interpretations.

Speaker 0

你觉得这个故事的寓意是什么?

What do you think the message of this story is?
