Recently, after we played some golf, and it was really funny too because it was most of our first round of the year.

And we'll pick a book, read it on our own time, and then meet, say, like once every one to two months to talk about it.

There's this part of this game where you can give these NPCs jobs.

And every time they get a job, they can offer trades, basically.

So for example, one type of job is a librarian.

So another part about Minecraft, which we've talked about briefly, is building stuff, crafting stuff.

So basically, a unit of a thing is a block in the world.

我当时在建一个农场结构之类的，然后在看一个教学视频。

I was building this, like, farm structure or whatever, and I was watching this video on how to do it.

视频里列出了所有你需要的材料。

And they listed out, like, all the things you needed.

但有时候，你需要其他材料来制作最终需要的材料。

But sometimes, you need other materials to create the final material that you need for the build.

一开始，我手写下来并手动计算。

At first, I was writing it down and hand calculating stuff.

但后来我想，等等。

But then I was like, wait.

我们现在有工具了。

We have tools now.

于是我打开谷歌表格，开始制作一个计算表格。

So I literally pulled up Google Sheets and I started making a spreadsheet to calculate.

如果我要做一个标志，意味着每个标志需要三块木板，而我需要做大约300个标志。

If I'm building like a sign, that means I need three planks per sign and I need to build like 300 signs.

那总共需要多少块木板呢？

So how many planks is that?

And I was like, oh, fuck, dude.

我真是个极客。

I'm a nerd.

嘿，这简直就是运营管理啊。

Hey, that's like operational management right there.

Like, would win competitions at his company and stuff and get branded prizes winning and being really good at Go.

自然而然地，当在线游戏兴起时，在线围棋也出现了。

Naturally, when online gaming became a thing, like, online Go became a thing as well.

Oh, yeah.

所以詹姆斯问我爸爸，你以前玩过吗？

So James was asking my dad, oh, like, did you used to play?

blah blah blah。

Blah blah blah.

他就说，是啊，我经常玩。

And he was like, yeah, I would play.

挺有意思的。

And it was fun.

这样就不必去线下围棋聚会了，他以前也常去。

It was like nice that I wouldn't have to go to like IRL Go meetups, which he also used to do.

所以他说很方便，但你知道，网上有些特别毒舌的孩子，总在聊天里说些奇怪的话之类的。

So he was like, was convenient, but, know, there's some really toxic kids out there who like say weird shit and chat and whatnot.

我就说，天哪。

And I was like, oh my god.

我爸爸认识那些有毒的游戏玩家。

Like, my dad knows toxic gamer bros.

这简直太疯狂了。

Like, this is crazy.

Yeah.

在这些更具竞争性的游戏中，有时会游走在边缘。

With these more competitive games, it toes the line sometimes.

但如果你有一群合适的人，我觉得仍然可以很温馨。

But if you have the right group of people, it can still be wholesome, I think.

比如，我想起英雄联盟的例子，如果你和一群友善的朋友组五人队，而且不是在打排位赛的话。

For example, I'm thinking, like, back to league example, if you have a five stack of wholesome friends and you're not playing, like, competitive Mhmm.

Then there's a lot higher chance that it's gonna be wholesome.

我想这也是为什么在大学以及之后，我们玩英雄联盟时，更多是玩休闲模式，而不是排位模式。

I guess that's also why in college and later, whenever we play league, it's really more a ram, which doesn't have that ranked capability.

而且这真的只是为了好玩。

And it's really truly just for fun.

You're not here to pillage your friends' homes and stuff like You're more here to be like, woah, this is so cool what you've built.

I'm feeling a little bit inspired after our conversation here because I initially felt like, oh, maybe I have one or two wholesome activities that I like.
