Hi.
Welcome to eatyourcrust.
我是 Crystal。
I'm Crystal.
我是 Jisoo。
I'm Jisoo.
我是 Edward。
I'm Edward.
我是 James。
And I'm James.
Today, we have on two familiar voices.
We have Eddie and James.
是的
Yeah.
你好。
Hello.
Welcome back.
Eddie and James are actually family friends, and so they've known each other for a really long time.
And we brought them on hoping that we can talk a little bit about, you know, the typical Asian family slash family friend dynamic.
对。
Yeah.
Family friends are
a huge part of Asian American lifestyle, I guess.
是的。
Yeah.
So how long have you guys been family friends?
Since we were seven.
So fifteen years now.
Fifteen years.
Mhmm.
And how did your families meet?
I think I went to the same, like, elementary school as him.
Is that?
Chinese school?
不是。
No.
That doesn't sound right.
I think, no, you ended up going to the same elementary school.
But from what I remember, it was like a camping trip that our parents both went on.
And then like a bunch of parents like brought their kids along and then like that's kind of how our family friend group was like formed.
I think like Mhmm.
We had like mutuals or like they had mutuals amongst each other.
Oh.
Yeah.
That's same story.
没错。
Yeah.
But then he ended up coming to my elementary school like later on.
I always wonder how Asian parents make friends.
Like, do they go to elementary school, events and fucking like parents Like, seek out Chinese.
Yeah.
I actually don't know how it was for us.
Like, I feel like, because my parents already had known their friends and then their friends probably knew of like James' parents and stuff.
So it's
like Yeah.
Kind of like a mutual friend like circle.
That's like how they kinda all met each other.
I feel like nowadays they're probably in the same like WeChat groups.
Yeah.
How they meet other people.
It's like subtle Asian traits, but for parents.
Subtle WeChat traits.
Subtle WeChat traits.
Well, I know my family friends, my mom met them through either like the Samsung Korean community circle.
对。
Mhmm.
三星?
Samsung?
是的
Yeah.
Because my dad used to work at Samsung.
哦。
Oh.
And then there was also this one Korean volunteer group.
It was like a senior center where elderly people can go take classes.
Then my mom volunteered there and then she met some people.
哇。
Wow.
And also, I think, adult school for English as a second language learners.
My mom also met some friends through that.
是的。
Yeah.
Oh, my god.
Your mom is so hardworking.
Parents definitely did not go to English school.
They're just like, we're just gonna have this bad English.
Was like, okay.
对。
Yeah.
I If I went to meet friends.
My parents made friends when I moved here.
We have a distant cousin.
对。
Mhmm.
Well, distant blood wise, but, like, we're pretty close.
And then they invited us to their whole family friend gathering, and then we just mingled and forced our way into that friend group.
Oh my god.
That reminds me of a story.
So I used to go to Korean school.
It was like at my high school on Saturdays.
And actually, that was also where we made friends.
We finished class one day, and we were walking to my car in the parking lot.
And this small, like, really thin lady came running towards us and was like, which means like older brother.
Right?
Goodness.
And then we turned around and it turned out to be like a cousin of my dad's.
哦。
Oh.
And they had separated when they were in Korea.
Woah.
And my dad had no idea she lived in this area at all.
Like, I think he vaguely heard that she had moved to America.
Uh-huh.
But then it turns out we just lived in the same community and went to the same Korean school.
That's so cool.
是的。
Yeah.
She recognized or how long were they separated?
So I think they were really close when they were young up till like high school.
对。
Uh-huh.
And he had tutored her or They're something like also like cousins of cousins or something.
Really like far distance wise.
Mhmm.
But then I think they had separated after my dad left Korea.
So probably like a good ten years or so.
Wow.
That's so cool and kinda crazy to think that she was able to recognize him even after all those years.
Yeah.
I was like, what the fuck?
How can you recognize him?
He's so wrinkly now.
That's rude.
So how big of a part of your lives were your family friends?
I feel like it was a pretty big part of my life.
Friday nights, saw church people.
And then Saturday nights, I saw my parents' close friends.
And then Sundays at church, we also saw like close family friends.
So it's like three days a week.
That's like pretty often, I think.
Oh my god.
Your parents probably met people through church too.
Oh, yeah.
Dude, that's the Korean way.
我的
My
family friends, I definitely see them during all the big holidays.
So, like, Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year's, Chinese New Year's.
That's mostly it, I think.
And then sometimes we'll take, trips, but that's a lot more rare.
But they're, like, a decent part of my life.
For me and Eddie, we saw them for major holidays and then Mhmm.
Like the Asian holidays, like, you eat mooncakes
Oh, yeah.
Chinese New Year.
Eat zongzi, the wrapped Oh, yeah.
Rice thing.
Sticky rice.
是的
Yeah.
糯米
Sticky rice.
对
Yeah.
Oh, we just literally, that was like two days ago?
对
Mhmm.
是啊
Yeah.
My mom made like a shit load of Like, don't give it to his mom.
等等。
Wait.
That's so cute.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Oh, wait.
Because you guys live so close
to We live.
There.
Really close to each other.
I think from my friend group, we're really far apart.
There's some people in Union City, there's some people all the way up north in Dublin, and then there's like a handful of Fremont people.
So we're not super close distance wise.
Mhmm.
So that's why we mostly just see each other during the big holidays.
That's, yeah, that's kind of the same case with me and James too.
Think, like, we have other family friends spread out through, like, the rest of the Bay Area.
Like, I know one of our family friends lives in, like, Palo Alto and then there's, like, Campbell.
But, like, me, my family and James' family live really close to each other, so we see each other, like, a lot too.
For the other, like, extensions of, like, that group, we'd probably just see them on, like, major holidays.
What about in your guys' childhood?
Cause I know for me, our family friend group met a lot when we were children.
And then once kids started going to high school and we had like exams and stuff and like school actually mattered for our future, we definitely started seeing each other a lot less.
We used to get together a lot when we were kids Mhmm.
To go hiking, go to other people's houses for barbecues.
Mhmm.
It's definitely been a lot less because our family friend group has different ages too.
So some people would be in college while others would be in high school.
And so it would separate the group a little bit.
Honestly, yeah.
I think the cutoff point was like usually when the kid got into like college Uh-huh.
Their parent wouldn't like come around as much anymore because
Oh my god.
这太
That's
so sad.
Yeah.
Because I mean, I think like one thing that like Asian parents like bond over a lot is like talking about like the whole like college acceptance like
process, wait.
没错。
You Yeah.
That's so interesting.
Interesting.
My family friend group, they hang out without us.
Oh, really?
Kids.
They're like, fuck yeah.
Kids are gone, dude.
Literally, like, right now I'm living with my parents.
Right?
And they'll they'll just be like, hey, Crystal.
Tonight we're going to this family friend's place.
We're gonna go play cards, go eat or whatever.
And I'm like, TFTI, dude.
They're like, can I come for the Yeah?
And they're just like, yeah.
Just stay at home, figure it out yourself.
And I'm like, okay.
Bye.
It kinda boils down to like why they're family friends in the first place.
Going back to like what I was talking about before, there's like a core group, like, in Fremont, my family and James's.
对。
Mhmm.
And then there's also, like, the extension ones that would, like, come over and, like, hang out.
But that would mostly be because, like
They're just there to show off.
Sort of.
Honestly, yeah.
Like, a lot
of our
gatherings were, like, flex like, we were fucking we had to do like piano recital sometimes.
My god.
You're funny.
And then go play a fucking song.
Like and I'd be like No.
I love
It becomes a flex off.
Holy shit.
Was that like every major holiday party you guys would have to like perform or do something?
Honestly, I
mean That's wild.
When we were kids
Oh god.
I would just not go.
Dude, it's it's a lot of pressure.
I just hit.
Yeah.
You have to like wait it out until like the
Oh god.
They stop asking you to like come up and
We kind of had that too actually.
I think not as intensely as yours, but sometimes the parents would be like, oh, there's a piano lying around.
Anyone wanna play?
And everyone's like, fuck no.
Yeah.
Us too.
But it would be like, we would make the person who really likes piano play.
We had like one family friend who's really really into piano and she was fucking good at it too.
对。
Yeah.
And there was like me, the shitter who quit at like level five.
She would play and then I would just like watch and laugh.
Okay.
So besides the piano recitals that you guys had to do, what were your family friend dinners like?
Usually, every parent would bring two or three dishes Mhmm.
For a potluck.
Typical.
We
went to, like, designated families' houses for each holiday.
Like, for example, Eddie's is Thanksgiving.
所以他
So his
his dad will make thanks Turkey.
Like the turkey.
对。
Yeah.
He'll usually buy it.
哦。
Oh.
I don't think it's actually
The secret comes out.
All these years.
What's your house,
James?
My house is for New Year's.
是的。
Yeah.
Regular one.
Regular one.
但我们
But we
have like the karaoke machine.
哦。
Oh.
So our ears bled when our
kid our parents Although recently, they don't really bust it out as much.
Yeah.
Definitely not.
Thank god.
We we also have that, like, designated houses for each holiday.
My house is Chinese New Year.
It's really cool.
We have literally, like, an assembly line of parents Mhmm.
Making dumplings and we make it from scratch.
That's so cute.
Yeah.
没错。
Yeah.
We don't really do the whole, like, designated house thing.
对。
Mhmm.
I guess what we do is so half the time, we would do the potluck where you bring like a dish or two.
And I think it's really cute because I feel like every family has that one dish they always bring.
对。
Mhmm.
So this one family friend that we're really close to, her mom is really good at cooking.
So she always brings like the jellyfish salad, I guess.
And then it has like mustard in it.
Oh, yeah.
Like spicy.
对。
Yeah.
It's it's a Korean dish and it's so good.
I always look forward to that.
And then my mom makes like mussels and then she puts spicy mayo and fish roe on top.
Oh my way, had that once.
对。
Yeah.
是的
Yeah.
She made this one time.
对
Mhmm.
是啊
Yeah.
Think for us, different parents have their specialty dishes that
they bring over.
There's always I think the hot in demand ones are like, one parent brings like taifan.
炒
Fried
rice.
对。
Yeah.
But like
Really?
That's a popular one?
Yeah.
It's it's surprisingly good.
It's just bai tai.
I literally
Bok choy and then, yeah, like rice and
I'm so surprised because I literally hate rice.
Yeah.
Maybe whatever.
对。
Yeah.
But it's pretty bomb.
And then one of our other parents brings the beef rolls.
Oh.
Cucumber.
对。
Yeah.
You gotta you gotta like hoard up on them.
My parents always tell me they're like, we're not good at cooking.
So, Crystal, it's up to you in the future.
And I'm like, dude, I hate cooking.
Are you guys the family that brings like utensils?
没有。
No.
We we bring dishes.
But my parents or my mom, she's just like, I don't have any specific specialty.
但她
But she
always makes something that I think is like pretty decent.
Food tends to be a really big part of family friend culture for Asian Americans.
对。
Mhmm.
Because it's like, often it's the way that Asian Americans show love to each other without having to actually say words of affection.
Uh-huh.
Because fuck that, you know.
It's usually Asian food, right, when you guys Oh, yeah.
Have dinners.
是的。
Yeah.
I think Thanksgiving is the only time we actually eat more American food.
对。
Yeah.
Turkey and Turkey.
Asian food.
Oh my god.
Do you guys what my family friends, they bring one turkey and it's just kinda like for the tradition.
And then we each eat a small piece of turkey and we're like, alright, back to the Asian food.
Most of us don't really eat too much of that turkey.
I feel like Eddie probably has to eat leftovers
for weeks.
My god.
Good.
Like, they put it in my parents put it in everything for
People didn't wanna eat the turkey so we started doing ham.
Oh, okay.
You know, ham and then, like,
the side dishes.
Turkey is dry.
It is dry.
It's hard to make well.
You have to drown it in gravy.
Yeah.
I've always wanted to do, like, the turducken,
啊?
like Oh.
啥?
The what?
The shit that's like it's like a turkey with a
Duck
inside Ducks and a chicken.
Then a chicken stuffed inside the duck.
Oh my god.
Oh my god.
A little intense.
那个。
The
third one.
对。
Yeah.
I I can do like I can understand turkey with a duck in it, but turkey with a duck and a chicken.
A little graphic.
It's like yeah.
Am I imagining it incorrectly?
不是。
No.
I think you're measuring it
对。
Yes.
Whatever you're thinking.
对。
Yes.
I think I I think some I've heard of some Asian family friend gatherings, they do duck instead of turkey.
Is so good.
It does.
Aging duck
with some like bow.
对。
Yes.
So at family friend dinners, sorry to interrupt.
You guys are, like, drooling right now.
Do you guys usually separate adults and kids?
And then just, like, for us, the kids would just play games or watch movies the whole time and then sometimes we could hear the adults talk about stuff.
Mhmm.
And a lot of the times we would overhear them talking about us.
So we would turn down the games to like see what they were saying.
哦。
Oh.
I think we turned up to try to drown it out.
是的。
Yeah.
We were really uncomfortable when we heard parents talking about us.
We're like, oh god, they're going at it again.
Dude, honestly, I I feel like the conclusion of this whole podcast topic is family friend gatherings are to flex kids.
对。
Yes.
That's what I've gathered because, yeah, they used to always just like talk about like college, getting ready for college and like how you're doing in high school and stuff.
I think for us, it was less of a flex maybe because our family friend group was smaller.
对。
Mhmm.
Our core friend group when I was in middle school, high school, it was maybe like four or five families.
So for us, it was really like asking the oldest daughter's family for advice.
对。
Mhmm.
Because she was the one going through high school first, middle school first, And then I was an only child, so I had to ask her and our other family friends because I had nothing to go off of.
Your your age difference was kind of like spread out then,
Yeah.
So she's two years older than me.
对。
Mhmm.
I have another family friend who's one year older but same grade.
对。
Mhmm.
And then it's me and then the baby just graduated high school.
Oh, wow.
是的。
Yeah.
In my group, there's the older kids which is me and there's one other person my age and everyone else is about one year older.
And then there's like my brother's age which is two years older.
对。
Mhmm.
So we're all like the big kids and we're just grouped as one.
And then we have the little kids which is everyone's younger sibling and then some of them are just younger.
And then those are people who are I think they're like third or second year in college now.
哦。
Oh.
So did you guys hang out in separate groups too?
是的。
Yeah.
Kind of.
Oh my god.
是的
Yeah.
When we were younger, we had like the kids table.
But now it's we kinda just eat on like couches or wherever.
Like, there's no really table for the kids.
Uh-huh.
对。
Yeah.
There's a table for the adults though.
I think that's the exact same thing we have.
We just have the couch.
对。
Yeah.
但我
But I
think in recent times, because we're all older now, like, my brother was the youngest of, the whole group and then he just graduated high school.
But everybody else is in, like, college and stuff and it's, like, drinking age now.
Oh, god.
So yeah.
It's like it's actually, like, pretty different now.
Like, I think this past Thanksgiving was the turning point
where mean when you blacked out?
Yeah.
Like straight up.
Like, it was like a family friend gathering and then I think we we had always like snuck wine or whatever like when we're kids.
Mhmm.
But we straight up went out and bought like bottles and
Oh my god.
30 baker beer.
Everything was gone by the end of the night.
And so was I.
It was mostly Eddie who drank and Oh,
and another friend.
Oh, yeah.
Yeah.
That was my first time visiting their family friend's like holiday party.
Oh, god.
And they were like, oh, can you pick us up?
Because I was going a little bit late after hanging out with my mom.
They're like, can you pick us up and can we go to CVS?
对。
Mhmm.
And I was like, oh, okay.
And we go pick up, like, a 30 rack and a fifth.
God.
And I was just so shook.
It was like a culture shock for me.
That's not no.
对。
Yeah.
That's not no.
Not gathering.
I would be shocked too.
对。
Yeah.
But, Crystal, you said you drink a lot of like, a good amount of wine at family parties.
对的
Yeah.
So once I turned 21, I was like, well, I mean, I really like wine.
So why not just drink some?
Because we always have hella wine.
对呀
Mhmm.
And I started drinking and then the parents slowly walked by
没错
Mhmm.
Throughout the night.
They're like, oh my god, Crystal.
They just commented on they're saying that they were so surprised that I was drinking a lot.
And then now, I'm kind of accidentally known as like an Accidentally.
Someone who just drinks a lot.
Literally, uncle came up to me.
He was like, Crystal, you need to be careful.
You know, your great grandma was an alcoholic.
Oh my god.
And I was like, okay.
Oh my god.
That's so funny.
Yeah.
I feel like I kinda established that reputation.
没错。
Absolutely.
It's not even close.
是的
Yeah.
Mean It's kinda nice though.
Just drinking at a family party.
对。
Yeah.
没错。
Yes.
Like, feel more adult.
没错。
Exactly.
I think it kind of honestly brought the kids closer to the parents too because our parents always, like, drink wine and beer Mhmm.
In the gatherings and then we used to play, you know, Super Smash Bros and like Mhmm.
Random video games It's more of like a coming together thing for us now.
Like, we drank with our parents a bit.
We played like some poker and stuff.
是的。
Yeah.
对。
Yeah.
It it was like a lot more mature of a gathering and kinda liked it a lot.
是的。
Yeah.
The adults can kinda participate with the kids now.
是的。
Yeah.
对。
Yeah.
Yeah.
I don't know.
I just don't know if I could drink in front of my family friends.
I don't I don't really drink with my dad.
对。
Mhmm.
I'm comfortable drinking with my mom, but I don't only drink when my dad's there.
对。
Mhmm.
I don't know.
It's like a respect thing almost.
哦。
Oh.
是的。
Yeah.
I accidentally got really drunk one time.
And it was I was a little embarrassed.
But my mom was really cute about it.
In the morning when I woke up, she was and I went down back downstairs.
She was like, Crystal, you were so drunk yesterday.
And she gave me a hug and I was like, oh, okay.
So you got really drunk when you were drinking with your parents or you came home drunk and she saw you?
Oh, no.
It was at a family friend gathering.
Oh, then, like, yeah, I was pretty drunk.
Nice.
My dad, Thanksgiving, I think I went downstairs and he's like, you should eat some bananas.
I guess that's like
good bananas or something.
Bananas.
Yeah.
I haven't heard that one.
没错。
Yeah.
But yeah.
对。
Yeah.
Oh, Eddie was a wild one that night.
Really?
I can imagine.
What's that supposed
啊?
to mean?
Yeah.
I guess part of why I wouldn't wanna drink or get really drunk in front of family friends is this might be a kind of an Asian thing, but I feel like I have some sort of image to uphold in front of family friend parents, even though they've seen me since I was young.
And I don't necessarily wanna get really really drunk in front of them.
对不起,Eddie。
I'm sorry, Eddie.
No shade.
是的。
Yeah.
Now, like, going back to it, I'm more of like the obedient golden child.
Oh, yeah.
And so that Thanksgiving, I actually didn't drink too much.
He was busy upholding his image.
Oh, absolutely.
And I was taking care of Eddie to Yeah.
To absolutely like further that image.
Oh, yeah.
Eddie
Eddie's just embracing his not as golden child I don't I don't know
about embracing, but I feel like we kinda establish these roles or like reputations with their parents growing up, you know?
So then they kinda come to expect things like James kinda said, he was typical golden child.
He wears glasses.
My theory is that since he's like always sort of looked like a parent, he gets along with
him.
Oh my gosh.
Okay.
I'm gonna tell your dad about your tattoo.
He knows.
I showed him actually.
Oh, I showed him a couple days ago.
对。
Yeah.
哦。
Oh.
等等。
Wait.
How did he react?
He actually reacted better than my mom.
He was like, yo, that's like kinda big but like how long he he kinda just asked questions about it.
He's like, how long did it take?
Like, how much did it cost?
Oh my god.
He's like, okay.
对。
Yeah.
But how long will it last?
When is it going away?
No.
No.
I think he actually said after that that he wanted to get one before.
So that's probably
why.
My god.
He's like, I want some like Chinese like writing, like a saying or
some shit.
Wow.
But do you think your parents are super traditional or do you think they're more progressive in trying to accept like, current trends and stuff?
I honestly think they're pretty traditional, but like for some stuff Mhmm.
They are a little more progressive.
Like, I guess, like, my dad just weirdly wanted a tattoo so he's like progressive in that.
My mom is definitely more traditional for that.
She was like freaking out with my shoulder.
What was your exact reaction?
I mean, okay.
I told I kind of prepped her for it by saying, hey, mom.
I'm going to LA this weekend.
I'm gonna get a tattoo.
哦。
Oh.
And then she kinda asked like how big it'd be and I just kinda told her in my shoulder.
Uh-huh.
It's actually a half sleeve.
Yeah.
So when When when I shoulder.
When when I showed her in person, she's just like, wow, that's really big.
Don't show your dad.
I think he she actually thought, like, he would react worse than he did.
哦。
Oh.
So that was like a little surprising.
Oh my god.
That makes me think maybe I should tell my parents.
I think as long as you're open with them Mhmm.
About it like beforehand, don't try to hide it, you know, because
It's too late for me.
I think you just have to have like a adult conversation about it, you know.
对。
Yeah.
没错。
That's true.
You're no longer at the age of asking for permission to do stuff.
Yeah.
And I think it's like we are accustomed to that because we grow up like that.
对。
Mhmm.
And you know, as Asian kids, your parents might have more traditional expectations of you and you're always might like kinda shy away from asking them for stuff because they always shut you down beforehand.
对。
Mhmm.
But I mean, you have to realize that we're also like adults now.
是的。
Yeah.
But my thought is, you and me, we're both living
with our parents.
Right?
是的。
Yeah.
So I like, I'll wait until I move out to tell my mom.
Because right now, it's like they're still supporting me Yeah.
Like housing and
That's true.
All that kind of stuff.
I feel like I'm still under their like Yeah.
而且
And
plus, I think parents are more lenient with guys.
Oh, And girls, they tend to be a little bit more protective of
And my kinda see that.
是的。
Yeah.
And my oldest tattoo is like four or five years old now.
It's okay.
Your mom won't know.
Be like, I just got all four tattoos.
I feel yeah.
For that, like, your tattoos are a little more easy to hide.
Right?
对。
Yeah.
I purposely get it in like easy to hide spots.
Yeah.
I think mine, I hid as long as I could.
Now it's summer, know?
So I'm gonna wear like short sleeves around the house.
Like I wore like, jackets and stuff for the last time.
You were wearing like a parka.
Not parkas, but I mean, you know, you go to work every day, there's AC so you can wear a jacket the whole time.
You can pretty much cover it up whenever.
But now it's it's literally 90 degrees in the Bay Area today.
So, you know, I wanna walk around my house Yeah.
Wearing whatever I wanna wear.
是啊
Mhmm.
没错
Yeah.
My mom straight up told me she would disown me.
害
Oh.
She was like, I'll cut you out of our family.
Oh my god.
And it's weird because, Crystal, you've met my mom.
Right?
是的。
Yes.
对。
Yes.
My mom is really liberal
Uh-huh.
And she's really, really open minded Mhmm.
About everything except tattoos for some Oh my Maybe because in Korea, it's like Yeah.
A gangster Yeah.
对。
Yeah.
I think, yeah, it's like also the
In China too, I think it like like generally all those Asian things like so gangster related.
Which is why I'm surprised.
Yeah.
My parents were like a lot more chill with it than I thought they'd be, to be honest.
But I do think I mean, your parents both went to school here.
Right?
Yeah.
They went to college here and then Oh, okay.
Honestly, I think over the years I've just worn them down.
Like, I got earrings.
I got earrings for the first time in high school.
Oh my god.
They flipped out about that.
This is like freshman year of high school.
I got my ears pierced in my bathroom by like this random chick.
She just like pierced it with a thumbtack after she like sterilized it.
Oh my god.
And then, you know, like I had them and they're like, what the they actually didn't notice for the longest time.
But I'm surprised they didn't notice.
I know.
Just
hard to not.
I feel like Asian parents can also be like not that
They're like a billionaire.
Yeah.
They don't like look out for it.
是的。
Yeah.
When they did notice, they were like, what the fuck?
Take that out.
So, yeah, I kinda for the longest time, I actually took them out when I was around them and then put them back in.
Oh god.
My Did you like it?
是的。
Yeah.
It it didn't like, I think my ears started swelling.
Oh god.
I was just like, this is not the right move.
I'm just gonna, like, let it heal.
And then I ended up getting them pierced in college again as soon as I went off.
对。
Mhmm.
And then by then, they were chill with it too.
Yeah.
Think I ought to I honestly just wear my mask.
So clearly, you know, as we mentioned earlier, Eddie is definitely not the golden child.
对。
Yeah.
The hooligan.
I don't know if
you also get caught doing other stuff when you were a kid?
I think when we were really little Mhmm.
He would be the one that did he was like running around a lot.
Oh, the North like Yeah.
And then, I mean, I guess, like, I like the whole Internet thing that we talked about.
Oh, yeah.
Oh, yeah.
He used to make me ask his parents for Internet.
Oh, my god.
是的
Yeah.
Family friend parties, when he came over, I'd be like, yo, go ask them because they're not cheap.
And it would usually work.
And then I think one time when we were in middle school Mhmm.
Eddie sent hundreds of texts but didn't have a
texting plan.
Oh my god.
And so he racked up a pretty big phone bill.
Oh my This is we we had a like a 200 text like monthly plan.
So you could only send
200条
200
短信
text
Like family?
Within a family?
And then I think my dad got wind of it.
Like, he saw the bill and he's like, you can't do this anymore.
Oh my So like, I cut it down and then I think another time, he caught me texting when I was supposed to be in bed.
啊。
Oh.
I think like 10:00 or some shit.
等等。
Wait.
That's so early.
Is like sixth or seventh grade.
Oh, okay.
Know, I think also the phone bill was in Eastern time, so it looked three hours later than it was.
But he was like, why are you texting at 12AM?
And he's like I think he texted the person I was texting.
He was like, why are you texting my son?
Oh my god.
Oh my god.
And that was a girl I liked at the time.
So yeah.
She's like, I no more Edward.
Yeah.
Yikes.
She's like, I'm done with your shit.
对。
Yeah.
I think I'm kinda similar with Eddie though.
I I was a problem child.
Really?
Yeah.
How how so?
When you when you ask like, have you ever gotten caught doing stuff Uh-huh.
That, like, triggered a memory.
I used to, like, sneak out of my house sometimes.
In high school?
是的。
Yeah.
In in high school.
I'd sneak out of my house and go on, like, walks with friends.
