Randy Cross, who I'll let introduce himself a little bit more in a minute, but really has considered the basics of endodontics.
Is the canal clean or not?
And with this next, invention that he's gonna be, discussing with me, It's really a a revolutionary and pretty much a seismic change.
Has the ability to really revolutionize how we approach endodontics.
So, Randy, Doctor Cross, it is an absolute pleasure.

Hey, Marcus.
That's, a really great introduction, and and thank you so much for that.
I just wanna say the...
I I feel the same here.
So I I went to residency listening to your podcast.
You helped me stay awake on those drives to my residency.
So it's really cool to actually be on this podcast.
I've been listening to every episode.
So, yeah, it's a pleasure to be on here.
But just to be ethically open and transparent, we just wanted to disclose any potential conflict that you may have since you are the owner of this new technology.
没错。
That's correct.
So my company is Endocator, and I have several intellectual patents that involve ATP testing and biomarker testing inside of a root canal.
So on this discussion, we're talking more about it, but just wanna be totally clear that I have intellectual property in this area and that my company is based off of.
Yeah, really, you know, thank you for that.
It's something that we just wanted to provide information in a more digestible format for the endodontists and those who are interested in dentistry in general.
And when we had the chance to meet last AAE and you approached me, I was literally blown away by what you presented to me.
And I'll just go ahead and say it's the Endocator, and I'll let you get into that a little bit more what that means.
But, essentially, you are using biomarkers.
For those of you who don't know, those are kinda measurable substances and organisms that we can kinda use to indicate a level of disease, infection, some sort of exposure or what have you, and using that technology to help us determine, can we fill the canal or not?
是的。
Yes.
So so that's that's a great kinda intro to it.
那么……
So...
And, yeah, kinda the background is, I'm sure, like a lot of people listening here during residency, we'd always hear, is a canal clean enough?
Are you sure you're ready to fill?
This has a big lesion.
You should do it in two visits.
In the back of my mind, because I'm a biochem background, I worked in a biotech company for a year.
I'm thinking there's lots of ways to see if it's clean.
We can do a Bradford assay.
We could analyze assay, we can look for DNA.
So there's lots of different ways, but we're not using any of them in endodontics, and I think we spent so much time looking at cleaning methods and file design and stuff like that, but one part we had not looked at at all is, is the canal clean or not?
And so kind of with that in mind, I went ahead and looked into ATP.
ATP is adenosine triphosphate.
It's present in every cell on planet Earth nerve, blood, bacteria, everything.
And so I went ahead and started checking the root canals to see, man, is this can this detect anything?
Because there should only be one cell in here, two cells, like this thing shouldn't be sensitive enough to see it.
But in our root canals, the things are just exploding with ATP.
It's not even like micro levels.
It's very high levels.
And sure enough, you can use this to determine if it's clean or not.
So right now we're in the process of getting a product to market that can see when your canal is clean or not based off ATP testing.
And it's very simple, very easy to do.
And we'll talk about that.
I've had the ability to use the technology and I really appreciate you allowing me to engage and really, you know, work with that in real time.
But it seems so...
It's just like elementary in the sense that, yes, why hasn't someone thought of this before?
So is the canal clean or not?
And using a biomarker to really detect that.
So I just gotta take my hats off to you because that is the whole basis of endodontics is to remove any microbes within the canal, prevent and eliminate apical periodontitis.
And so often we say in endodontics, we do it in the dark in terms of the work that we're doing, we really can't see what we're doing with our files.
But ultimately, we have to move beyond the white lines because if it looks good, but the canal is not clean, what's the point?
I think you said a couple really good points there.
It's like whenever I see these pictures now, for me, I check every tooth, every, you know, every tooth to make sure it's clean before I close it.
So when I get in these AAE morning emails and these pictures of these really cool cases, see the white lines, apex.
I'm like, who cares?
Like, who cares?
What the more important part is if you cleaned it or not, not not what it looks like in the x rays.
So that was one point you said.
And the second was like, oh, you see it looks clean.
And that's that's exactly it.
Like these things look clean, but you have no idea unless you test it.
And granted, some of these look dark and you can see black, you know, it's been necrotic for a long time.
You can see it.
But for the most part, every case looks perfect and it's only until you check with a biomarker that you can really tell.
So, yeah, that's, yeah, that's that's really kind of cool points is that even though it looks perfect in the x-ray, did you clean it or not?
And you can't tell unless you test it.
And these the results are just all over the place with the ATP testing.
Talk a little bit more about using ATP.
And you kind of alluded to just its presence within, I guess, microorganisms throughout the tooth and what have you.
So how did that technology...
What made you think to apply that specifically, you know, to your invention, the Endocator?
So I think it it kinda goes back into historical research with endodontics.
In the past, you'd always culture and if it was gram, if it if it cultured negative, you were fine.
And if it cultured positive, you have to sterilize more.
The problem is those results take two weeks.
And so it always mattered when you fill it.
Is it culturing positive or negative?
People can't wait that long.
It requires every visit to be two or three cases.
So just that kind of fell off the, you know, died.
No one does that anymore.
Another one that came up was calcene, and calcene is an enzyme that you can inject in the tooth, and in five minutes you can see if the levels of bacteria or not.
But again, that takes five minutes.
You have to inject things in the tooth and it just never really panned out.
The one that's been kind of the low hanging fruit in the background has been ATP, and there's been previous literature to show that high levels of ATP correlate with bacteria positive, low levels bacteria negative.
And then this thing is much, much, much more sensitive than just plus or minus.
It's not just bacteria positive, bacteria negative.
There's 10,000 shades of gray to ATP.
And even though you're gonna be culturing negative, you can get it, you know, with this thing, you can...
With this ATP testing, you can determine well below the culture positive, culture negative.
Is it clean or not?
And the great thing about ATP is it's ten seconds.
It's a couple bucks a test.
It's it's quick.
It's easy and it's chairside.
So you can just, you know, for me, it's it's every case because it only takes ten seconds and there's nothing going in the tooth at all except for water.
So nothing nothing damaging in the tooth, very quick, and it's very cheap.
Well, you know, I I think that's key because as endodontists, it is about the bottom line.
And when we're really trying to introduce new technology, is it gonna disrupt our workflow, slow us down, which sometimes may translate into, you know, lost productivity or improvement.
But this technology, I've had the chance to to use it chairside.
And, yeah, it literally takes me no more than a minute.
And I think the simple application, you know, I'll let you get into a little bit more, but just the rinsing of the canal, go ahead and taking the sample, putting it in the the applicator, and then just giving it literally, like, ten seconds, and then you have your reading.
And with that reading, I think we'll get into the conversation of that range.
What does that really indicate in terms of cleanliness and how does that help us to determine when or not to fill, or should we be two stepping these cases?
Yeah, and I think that's great for patients too, because I'm not sure if you've gotten this question like, well, how do you know this root canal is gonna work if the first one didn't?
How do you And know it was
干净了
clean or
so for me, I can go ahead and say, listen, we checked it for ATP, a biomarker for infection.
It's perfectly clean.
There's nothing else we can do to the inside of this tooth to clean it up.
We are ready to close it.
And a lot of times for me, it's it's, you know, we're...
This is still...
There's like, I've heard the expression there's, cutting edge and there's bleeding edge.
This is bleeding edge technology, which is which is why it's great to be on your podcast.
So if this inspires any residents or faculty or any research projects, I mean, is a very quantitative, very quick, very cheap.
So, you know, I would love to get some more research on exactly what this means.
Previous biomarkers have had a 4.5 times higher failure rate depending on high levels and low levels.
And I think we're going to find something with like similar to ATP that if it has high levels of ATP, you know, you probably wanna clean up the case a little bit more, but if it has low levels, you're good to go and there's nothing else you can do inside the tooth to clean it up anymore.
You you speak on that real time feedback and that has been so advantageous when was using it.
Know, in a chronic case, of course, we know it's gonna have a certain level of, you know, bacteria within the cow.
It's a little bit harder to clean.
We all know the the data suggests that usually about ten percent decrease overall just with necrotic cases, even more in compared to viral cases.
So I really found it useful when I was applying it to necrotic cases, but you alluded to also the idea of individualized care.
You know, each case is specific.
So I have my protocol, my clinging and shaped protocol, but do I need to adjust it based upon the case and the person's?
And so that's what's really cool.
So a lot of times I'm I'm ready to go.
I think I'm ready to finish, but I'll get a high reading or not not a lot of times, but it happens.
And then at that point, I don't get nervous.
I don't freak out.
I just go ahead and I put the hypochlorite back in and I use my, you know, EndoActivator or maybe I'll use my laser for another round of laser disinfection.
And I just use that opportunity to give it one more clean.
And I think that with this technology, this doesn't mean you throw away everything you learned during residency.
Like if you have a necrotic case with the big parapical radiolucency, you know, you want to make sure that's totally, totally, totally clean, but now you have this opportunity to give it one last check before you close it up.
Hey, this is good and or, Oh man, I had a little bit higher score than I wanted to do.
Let me go ahead and give it one last round of activation.
And again, for the most, so it lets you get individualizable care based on the patient, but also every single one of my cases for the last thousand plus 2,000, 3,000 cases, I know how clean it's getting.
So I've gotten really dialed in to my skills to know what do I need to do to clean it up.
And there's there's different ways of doing it.
For me, it's the EndoActivator to get the Apex.
It's the laser.
It just gets some really good disinfection in there.
And also it's just time too.
Like it does...
Like the research has said, if if I blitz through the root canal in one...
You know, five minutes to get to the apex and put my gutta percha in, you know, it's not clean.
Just like all the, research in, Apisola's study of, dye penetration.
Like, it needs a little bit of time to work.
So for me, I've gotten my method dialed in for the most part.
It's just a final check to make sure it's clean, but it lets you individualize patient care for the patient.
And also it lets me get feedback on what I'm doing so I can perfect my technique.
Well, you know, one thing I do like is, yeah, the approach to individualized care, but it does, if adopted on a larger scale, can almost provide a standardization across platforms for how we can actually assess.
And I think that's so needed.
Know, I've had a lot of guests on and we were talking about just different research techniques and methods, and even looking at the restorative aspect of, you know, endodontics and how we're kind of triaging that out to the general dentist or someone else when we should probably be the ones who restore it because at that point, we know the tooth is as clean as it can be.
And now we can actually say that with confidence.
So, I mean, that's just like a great point to say, well, you know what?
This is really when we should be restoring the tooth because I have guarantee data that this tooth is probably the cleanest it's ever gonna be because we know as soon as they hit the parking lot, if it's in a temporary restorative material, it's leaking as soon as they hit the pavement.
I know I feel like with this device, I've gotten paranoid about once I'm done with my root canal, I'm at least putting intraorphis barrier on there because like the last thing I want is to have anything touching it after I've like confirmed it's sterile.
So I totally agree with you this once it's done sealing it off because, you know, the last thing you want to do is have your root canal fail from saliva hitting it afterwards.
So one other thing that you did mention that's kind of neat is that this is extremely quantitative.
So what that means is like if you have a benchtop study and you look at extracted teeth, you can get really good readings on a laser versus gentle wave versus ultrasonic versus sonic.
We've already had some research into this area, especially from Doctor.
Nagesh Bola in India.
He did a thousand patient study and he looked at 5% hypochlorite versus 3% hypochlorite.
He looked at ultrasonic versus sonic versus no activation, and at the end of the day, he found that higher higher strength hypochloric gets you lower ATP numbers, that ultrasonic is slightly better than sonic, which is much, much better than than nothing at all, and that time is really important as well.
So his research has been really extremely helpful for guiding us into what levels are acceptable for a root canal.
Endocator...
And also with that in mind, the Endocator that...
The ATP test that we have indicator, it grades it on a zero to 100 scale.
So zero being the cleanest and 100 being the dirtiest.
So that way it makes sense of these numbers and, you know, and gives you a better reference what you want your cases to end at.
And again, you don't want to throw away in your studies and your research, like if you see an experience, if you see a tooth with a big lesion, for me, I want those numbers to be about 20 or below before I close that case.
While if it's a vital case, you know, I know those tend to work out, so I'm a little bit more comfortable sealing those teeth with higher numbers.
好的。
Okay.
You know, I'm glad you brought up the range, in terms of determining the sterility of the sample.
With any new technology, there's always gonna be areas of improvement.
And so I think that was one area I was a little bit, you know, just not clear on is how to really know at which point I can say this is clean.
But you're saying usually you say under 20 based on these studies by Doctor.
Bola.
And I think you also had, you involved Doctor.
Gamberini in doing some work as well.
So let's kind of talk about that so we can better understand in real time how we can actually use this and feel confident that these values that we receive are actually telling us, you know, the truth.
So the first round of research, kind of like the pilot project was with Nagesh Bola in, Siberian Institute of Dental Science, and he took a thousand patients and just checked every case from hand file after rotary, after, cleaning and after second round of cleaning on some cases.
And what he found is these ATP numbers are in the thousands, right when you enter the hand file and then the rotary goes to a thousands and then, you know, going going down after the final cleaning, it goes down to very low numbers.
But the thing is, it's incredibly variable.
There's lots of lows, lots of highs.
And even though you've done the exact same file, the exact same routine, you can still get so much variability among those cases.
And so it's really cool for this technology to be able to find out which ones are still dirty, so you get another round of sterilization in to make sure it's totally clean.
So after that first pilot study, we're...
We have, the first round of prototypes out there.
So we have Doctor.
Adam Azim, we have Fred Barnett, we have Gamborini, we have Jorge Vera, we have, Justin Kolnick, we have, Cliff Ruttle, Doctor.
West.
So we have a slew of key opinion leaders to get feedback from and also, the second round of research.
And that's what I'm really exciting...
Excited for just to get to the second round of research.
You know, this unbiased...
They they can publish what they wanna publish, and that way we can actually get some real feedback.
Because at this point, we have that initial study and we have my study feedback, we have our key opinion leaders, but I think just getting unbiased feedback from everybody is just going be super helpful, And then we can kind of decide...
Figure out as a profession, like what do...
What's our goal to get...

And we are back.
Thank you for tuning in.
I must say this is a fascinating episode because we are now really exploring the dynamics of how can we determine are our cases ready to fill?
Is the bacteria still there?
At what levels does it exist?
And with this new technology that Doctor.
Randy Cross has brought to the forefront with the Endocator, this really becomes a real time task that you can do on any and every case.
And it sounds like, Doc, you pretty much use it on every case, correct?
Oh, I do it every case.
Yeah, guaranteed.
And I've had it where, you know, there's electronic component to this thing and then the consumable tester item.
So I've had it where I did a case, didn't have my electronic piece with me, so I just kind of closed it anyways, but I kept that sample and ran it afterwards and the numbers were sky high and I'm like, Oh no.
And so then sure enough, the same patient as a retreat came back two weeks later and the tooth failed.
And so we had to extract the tooth.
So I was, you know, using it at ninety percent of my cases, vital necrotic, you know, but after that case, I'm like, just check it.
Like, it's ten seconds.
对。
Yep.
It does...
And I'm not sure if you've had the same, feelings, but it doesn't...
That what takes long isn't checking it.
What takes long is if you get a high number going back in that tooth and sterilizing it because it's it's not like what these companies will tell you.
It's not like you put it in there, you get a twenty second act.
At least for me, what I found, I can't just do twenty second round of activation and get those numbers down.
Sometimes I can, but for the most part, it's like every round of activation apical suction that I do, you know, I can bring those numbers down a half, a half, a half, a half, something right around there.
So for me, the time consuming part is not doing the test because that's ten seconds a minute total for all the whole rinsing and things like that.
But for me, the hardest part is if you get a high number, it's like, what do you do with the case?
You know?
So that like...
So that's that's been, the interesting part for me is just that it...
It's really can be challenged sometimes to get some of these dirty teeth all the way clean.
And if I can share, you know, I was a little bit, you know, freaked out originally.
I had a case and I registered about, you know, 60 or so.
And I said, well, you know what?
Maybe I can definitely try to get this down.
And to be honest, I went ahead and did my cleaning and shaping protocol again.
Do you know what took an extra ten minutes or so?
But when I actually got a reading below 20, I felt very confident based on the conversations we had that we can feel that this is clean enough to go ahead and seal.
And I'm very happy to see the outcome of that case.
But if you can just walk us through...
I wish we had the, you know, the the video so someone could also just kinda see how you...
You're actually doing this chairside.
But just on a regular case, how are you actually doing this multi rooted tooth?
Which canal are we choosing?
How deep are we going in the canals?
And then we'll start to just understand a little bit better how we can apply this technology.
So the exact protocol is do your root canal exactly how you normally do it.
You finish off your root canal, you're ready to go close it and, you get your two milliliters of sterile distilled water.
So you just get two milliliters of clean water and you rinse out the canals with that.
So that's going to remove the disinfectant.
It's going to remove some that debris.
And I kind of like that because it gives one last round of just quick little rinse to make sure everything's clean.
So once after you give it that little rinse, you go ahead, you have your canals filled with this water.
You just put the 30 gauge needle and put it about halfway down the canals and aspirate out a sample.
And then with that sample, you squirt it in our little tube, and then you push down on the tube, and that's gonna mix everything together in these chemicals.
And then you put it in our reader and then they could see you in ten seconds of reading.
So again, it's rinsing with water.
If you have a multi rooted tooth, I just test everything at once.
I don't test into each individual root, although you could.
For me, it's just a final check.
So I go ahead and I rinse with water.
I sample from each canal as opposed to just squirting that water in the trash can.
I go ahead and squirt it in our tube and then push it down, and that activates the science that then gets read for our electronic device in ten seconds.
The other really cool thing about this test is how simple it is.
就是ATP。
It's ATP.
It's in everything.
You can use it for vital, necrotic, retreat, and it's it's in everything.
And what it does is it hits this enzyme called luciferase and it starts to brighten.
So it's it's basically just, you know, the...
Your biomarker...
The most important biomarker in there with the most important enzyme in that device, and there's some other ones too, but most important is just how easy it is.
It's the ATP, the energy that's being pulled out from that canal, you're squirting it into the tube, and then you get a reading in ten seconds on the zero to 100 scale.
What I did like about the technology was, I guess it also helped me identify maybe there's a crack, right?
If we keep cleaning this tooth out, but we still keep getting a high reading, there must be some sort of communication with the periodontium that's still allowing that tooth to have a high reading.
So let's talk about that.
Where are the nuances of this test where we can maybe get...
I I don't think it's possible we really get a false positive, but a continually high reading.
And how does that really work with the new advanced irrigation technologies that we're seeing on the market?
好的。
Okay.
So, I mean, you do bring up a good point too.
This isn't a zero to 100 scale on if it's gonna work or not.
This is a zero to 100 scale on if it's clean or not.
So I've had people that, and again, this is much more sensitive than bacteria culturing.
So if you get a reading of 20, sometimes people just get upset.
Like, what do you mean it got something?
Like, what do you mean it got a score of 30?
Like, this thing is measuring ATP, so it's super sensitive and you should not...
Your expectation should be, I will get readings at thirty, forty, 50.
所以……
So that...
I just want to put that out there that it tells you how much ATP and grades it.
It doesn't necessarily say is it going to work or not, But that being said, higher numbers are bad.
Numbers are bad.
Lower numbers are good.
And when I get scores with higher numbers, what I found for me that works really well is to go ahead and to the laser for me in my hands is a good tool.
I like using the EndoActivator because it's a flexible tip and could get to the apex.
And the other one I found that really works out for me is apical suction.
So I'll get like a 30 gauge needle, put it at the end, and then just, you know, run a milliliter hypochlorite through it.
So I...
And I think these advanced irrigation units like the the Edge Pro, the GentleWave, I think they're super helpful and super useful.
And, yeah, it's just that it's another kind of tool to use in addition to the higher strength hypo, in addition to the amount of time and in addition to the indicator, knowing what you're doing, I feel like we should finally start to see hopefully, you know, more of our cases work out unless, you know, so I'm pretty excited for that.
Yeah, excited because it has the chance to just kind of, like I said, it's a paradigm shift, but, you know, in terms of ATP and the sensitivity of the tests, we have to also consider the apical tissues.
And when we maybe use something like the general wave, and if there is an extrusion, not really an extrusion, but there's gonna be some sort of irritation of those apical tissues, influx of that tissue into the canal, that in a sense could be seen as a false positive, so to speak, right?
And that's a great point too, is that...
So when I first did this, I was kind of like a little bit, you know, I was like, why am I getting high readings?
And you start getting readings from everything.
So some of my cases, I didn't build up the wall correctly, and so I was getting leakage from, like, saliva.
And I couldn't see it.
I didn't even think it was there, but then I got these sky high readings and it's kinda like, woah, what's going on?
So I can go back and find out what's going on.
And the last thing in the world I'd wanna do is be sealing my case with a little bit of saliva being, you know, findings with the apex.
Like, that's the last thing in the world.
So I wouldn't have had any idea about that unless I had this device.
And your other kind of points too about, like, cracks and things like that.
I had another case.
I'm like, why am I getting these sky high readings?
And it turned out it was it was a...
And so I ended up closing it, sure enough, they came back and it was a crack.
So, you know, I couldn't see it.
I couldn't get a reading from it.
You know, I couldn't see it, but I was getting these weird readings and all of a sudden it just gave me the ability to know which patients to recall a little bit more aggressively.
And that we found out was a crack.
Sometimes those results aren't so obvious.
I've also had coronal crack that I got kind of high numbers on and it's just like, what's going on here?
I closed it anyways and sure enough, that one came back a month later and had a failure due to coronal coronal fracture.
So it's not like there's a there's a reading that blinks out at you, says crack or blinks out and says, apical, extrude, you know, it's it's it's, apical extrusion, or saliva.
But it just it just makes you wonder, why am I getting this high of a reading if I've done everything right?
And I've also had like a C shaped canal where I get in there.
I think I'm done.
I get a higher number and I'm like, well, I know I have to let the bleach soak longer anyway, so I'll put the hypochlorite back in and then I'll find that missed canal that I didn't get.
And then I get my lower reading.
So it for better or worse, this thing tells you if you have apical leakage, it's going to be high.
If you have bleeding from the apex, maybe you're a GentleWave fan and you know, you ran a really hard cycle and you get a little bleeding.
Mean, you gotta control that stuff before you get a reading because ATP, for better or worse, is in saliva, is in apical tissue, is in is in blood, is in nerve tissue.
So if you get a high reading, it's not gonna say what it's from.
So you do have to...
After I run my test or while my test is running, I get paper points out.
I make sure there's no apical leakage.
I make sure there's no bleeding.
And if I do get some bleeding or apical leakage and I get a higher number, well, I know what it is.
Now I know what I have to control.
And the other thing that kind of blew my mind is how much that affects your numbers.
Like if you get apical leakage from a necrotic case that, you know, that's kind of oozing, those numbers are going be sky high.
So you really have to control that, at least in my opinion, and try to manage those situations.
And it may not be as obvious if you didn't have this test.
So for better or worse, it detects everything.
So, and you kind of have to use your clinical judgment to decide is it from saliva?
Is it from a nerve tissue to remove that...
Remove?
Is it from a missed canal?
Is it from a vertical root fracture?
But at the very least, it lets you...
Gives you that second chance like, what's going on here?
I really need this one to work out.
It's under five unit bridge.
Like, I need this one to work out.
So I'm gonna go ahead and, you know, do a little more investigating.
You know, I like that idea of the the second chance endodontics.
You know, you can kinda captain save yourself.
So when we talk about vital and necrotic, are we still aiming for the same value for, you know, these differences in diagnosis?
So in my hands, way that...
So from...
In my hands, I tend to, one visit the vital cases, more often than the necrotic ones.
So for me, I get to actually get a little bit higher numbers with the vital.
And the reason is there's all this...
You know, you're removing all this blood, you're removing all this nerve tissue, and so it's a lot of just debris in there.
And I don't think that debris is gonna make the case fail.
And so if I get a higher reading like fifty, sixty on a vital case, like, I'm still gonna go back in there and put the hypochlorite back in and activate it one last round.
I may not even check after the second round.
A lot of times if it's a high number in, like, an necrotic case, I'm gonna double check it with with another reading.
But if it's a vital case, get a higher number.
I know from success rates, it's probably gonna work anyways, but let me just get one last round in there, one last cleaning, one last laser, one last x, and one last ultrasonic, whatever your method is, just give it one last round and just really make sure that you you got all that gunk out of there.
But that's how I use it in vital cases.
I still check it.
I still think it's gonna work out even if I didn't check it, but at a couple bucks a pop, you know, for less than the cost of your rotary file, it it might be worth just checking and making sure.
You know, and I really think it just aids to the point that we just need a little bit more research.
So like you said, through this discussion, maybe you can engage the residents to really start using this technology and kind of finding out just the little points of how to improve upon it, what really works in various situations, advanced irrigation, how important is it if you have a vital versus necrotic.
So a lot of still discovery to get it to the point where it's a highly functional technology.
But I gotta tell you, it has revolutionized how I've approached my my cases.
And I'm just very excited that someone finally thought of this idea.
And I mean, that point, and I think this technology is great for the patient care.
So it's great for the individual tooth, individual patient to let the notes clean.
I think it's great for the dentist and the endodontist because you get feedback.
So I've upped my game, like the numbers I used to get in the beginning, no longer get because I know what I'm doing.
I know what I have to do to clean up the tooth.
So for me, it's helped improve...
It's feedback on every case.
It's helped improve my game, but also for research.
I mean, can use this bench top with extracted teeth and it's a research dream because, you know, culturing and plating and serial dilutions.
I mean, that's a nightmare.
And I used to work under a flow hood for my my biotech days.
But, I mean, this turns something complicated into a ten second test and a couple bucks.
And what I'd love to see is, okay, Triton versus 5% hypo, like 3% versus 5%, sonic versus ultrasonic versus laser versus gentle wave, and it makes everything so quantitative because there's a zero to 100 scale for us in the clinic.
Actually, if you go to the settings, you can make it zero to 100,000.
So you can make it totally quantitative and get down to the minute detail of how much more effective this is versus that, how much time do we actually need.
So I feel like it's great for the patients.
It's great for the endodontists to get feedback.
And it's also great just for research because there's a lot of kind of smoke and mirrors and it's hard to tell what's going on.
And this just cuts through all of that in a very simple, very fast, very easy to use, very reproducible way.
So tell us what are the plans moving forward for the indicator for this technology and AAE24 in LA is coming up.
Where do you kind of see this vision going?
现在呢,你可以去 endocator.com,就是 endo,cator.com,获取更多信息。
So right now, you can go to endocator.com, like endo, cator.com, and get some more information.
And there is some hurdles before we get it out to every, the general public, or for for the endodontists and dentists, and that's the FDA application.
So right now, we're in discussions with the dental distributor, and hopefully by AAE, we can go to their booth and try it out and and see.
So hopefully, by the time this airs, we should have it available for research use only for sale.
We should have it available for preorder.
And then hopefully by the end of this year, we can actually deliver these units and get it out to the...
To anybody who wants it.
所以……
So...
再说一下,你可以去 endodirect.com 和 endocator.com 获取更多信息。
And again, it's endodirect,.com and endocator.com is where you can get some more information.
And thank you so much for identifying me as an individual to test the technology.
I've had a good time using it.
I think that its usability is just across the board, much needed and looking forward to seeing where you take this.
You know, I I gotta applaud you for the ability to think outside the box.
It's nice that you did have that biochem background.
But before, you know, we conclude, I just wanna highlight that your research, your endodontic research really had nothing to do with this.
So this was like a side project.
So you're a hard worker, man, which I love.
You're like, you're you're all over this.
其实……
It's...
I was doing my endo residency and then working with the patent office.
I've been...
Have my...
I just opened up my private office, Watsonville Endodontics, and every morning I'm sending off emails and working with the manufacturer and things like that.
So it's been a pretty fun little side project, but it's really cool.
所以如果外面有人有好点子想联系我,可以发邮件到 infoendocator.com。
So if there's any people out there that have a cool idea and wanna reach out to me, it's, infoendocator dot com.
You know, it...
So it's it's...
If you guys think there's a way you can improve the profession through research, do it.
If if it's outside of research, do it.
Like, at this day and age, it's, you know, everything's changing pretty rapidly.
So I wanted, if there's anybody who's looking for guidance or anything like that, feel free to reach out and I can kind of explain the process and what it looks like.
Well, I'll tell you, one person you may hear from is AAE secretary, Doctor.
Elizabeth Perry, You know, she's been very instrumental along with Ken Wiltebank and, you know, others at the executive level of the AAE and bringing new codes that we can use as endodontists for insurance purposes as well.
So, you know, this just, like, opens up a can all over the place, man.
That would be the win of the century.
If if we could go ahead and help increase, you know, help make sure the tooth is clean, that would help us out.
If the patient, if we need a billing code so that we can get reimbursed for it, that would be great.
And again, these things are not these tests are not crazy expensive.
It's not doesn't take too long to run.
So for a couple, you know, the cost of a rotary file, ten seconds, you can get reimbursed whatever from the insurance companies.
And I feel like the insurance companies want that too, because they don't want their cases failing and then paying for another retreat.
Very true.
So I feel like this is a win win win for everybody.
Now across the board, it's definitely a win.
And so Doctor.
Cross, Randy, it's just been really cool to get to know you over this past year.
And I really am excited to see where you're taking this with the Endocator.
And I can't thank you enough for just coming on the podcast and sharing this new technology with our listeners.
Well, it's been, it's been a pleasure, and I'm glad I stopped by your booth last year to harass you.
And I might have to stop by your booth this year to harass you a little bit again.
So hopefully you don't mind.
The harassment was well well received.
I don't know if you had the chance to meet my dad, but we we always have a good time, man.
We love everybody just coming up, saying hello, and look at what's, you know, what's transitioned out of that.
So exciting times.
Look forward to seeing you in LA, and we know that this is just gonna revolutionize Endo as we see it.
So congratulations.
I'm gonna give you that...
You know, give you your flowers now.
Oh, perfect.
Thank you so much, Marcus.
And thank you for having me on having me on, and, I'm glad you're having fun at the unit.
I appreciate it.
I feel awkward not testing my teeth now for for ATP.
So, you know, hopefully you're kind of getting, finding a fun little addition to your endodontics and kind of open some eyes that you've never, you know, opens opens, some doors you've never seen before because no one can see this.
It's only the ATP testing you can find it out.
没错。
That's right.
And you're the man with the technology.
So thank you so much, Randy.
It's been a pleasure.
We'll let you get back to your day.
I know you're busy and see you soon, man.
好的。
All right.
I'll see you at AAE and thank you so much.
Okay, buddy, thank you.
