Now let's get into it.

Speaker 0

大家最近怎么样?

What is up, everybody?

Speaker 0

欢迎来到《每日极致》播客的又一期节目。

Welcome to another episode of the EVERYDAY ULTA podcast.

Speaker 0

我是你的主持人乔·科西恩,朋友们,我们做到了。

I'm your host, Joe Corcione, and my friends, we did it.

Speaker 0

西部山区100英里耐力赛已经圆满结束。

The Western States one hundred is complete.

Speaker 0

如果你从事超马运动,又了解西部山区100英里赛,那你一定知道这场赛事有多传奇。

And if you're in the sport of ultrarunning and you know the Western States one hundred, you know just how legendary this race is.

Speaker 0

我非常幸运,能有机会参加这场比赛。

And I'm so grateful to have had the opportunity to go run this race.

Speaker 0

如果你还不清楚西部山区100英里赛是什么,待会儿我也会简单介绍一下,帮你更好地理解。

And if you're unfamiliar with what the Western States one hundred is, we're going to talk about it a little bit here, too, so you can get some context.

Speaker 0

但我得跟你们说一句。

But I will tell you this, my friends.

Speaker 0

这绝对是我这辈子最棒的一个周末之一。

This was one of my best weekends I've ever had in my entire life.

Speaker 0

不仅是我跑过的最出色的山地百英里赛——老实说,是我跑过的最好的一场。

Not only was it one of the best mountain races actually, sorry, it was the best mountain 100 mile races that I've ever ran.

Speaker 0

从体验、收获到回忆,这都是我人生中最难忘的周末之一。

It was from an experience perspective, from a lessons perspective, from a memories perspective, one of the best weekends of my life.

Speaker 0

难怪有那么多人争着报名参加西部山区100英里赛。

And there is a reason why so many people apply to Western States.

Speaker 0

大家跑完这场比赛都想再回来,这背后是有原因的。

There's a reason why when people do this race, they want to go back.

Speaker 0

我有幸亲身体验了这种感受。

And I got to experience that first hold.

Speaker 0

我录这期播客,是想带大家跟我一起经历这段旅程。不只是回顾一下经历,也不只是按时间顺序复述过程,而是我从这场比赛中收获了很多。

And I wanted to share this podcast to take you on the journey with me, not just to recap the experience and not just to give a play by play, but I learned so much in this race.

Speaker 0

我对自己有了更深的了解,也学到了很多如何在山地比赛中打好每一场仗,还有心态调整,以及关于生活本身的许多感悟。

I learned so much about myself, so much about running a good executed race in the mountains, so much about mindset, so much about just life.

Speaker 0

每次我做这种赛后回顾,不只是为了给大家详细讲讲比赛里发生了什么,当然这部分我也会讲。

And any time I do these recaps, it's not just to give you a play by play of everything that happened in the race, which I will for sure.

Speaker 0

我还不确定这期节目会有多长。

I don't know how long this episode is going to be.

Speaker 0

不过既然你听到了这里,可能已经感觉到了,这期节目估计会挺长的,因为我不喜欢漏掉任何细节。

But if you've tuned in, you've probably already seen that it's I'm going guess it's going to be pretty long because these I don't like to leave anything out.

Speaker 0

我不想漏掉任何细节的原因是,我想把这些经验教训都消化成自己的东西,同时也希望能分享给你们。

And the reason why I don't want to leave everything out is because I want to take all these lessons for myself, I want to be able to share them with you as well.

Speaker 0

我刚开始接触超马、创办这个播客的时候,初衷就是想从别人的经历里学习,帮助自己成为一名耐力运动员,也帮助自己成长。

Because when I was first getting into ultrarunning and I started this podcast, the reason why I started this was to learn from other people's experiences to help me as an endurance athlete and a person.

Speaker 0

这正是‘每日超马’这个节目的使命。

And that is my mission here at Everyday Ultra.

Speaker 0

所以我希望把完整的经历、全部的收获都分享给你。

And so I want to give you guys the full package, the full experience, all the lessons.

Speaker 0

这些内容,你今天都能在这里听到。

And that's what you're going get here.

Speaker 0

说实话,我学到了很多东西。

And let me tell you, I learned a lot.

Speaker 0

接下来,我会带你一起走一遍这次西部山区100英里的全程。

And I'm going to take you on this Western States journey with me here, too.

Speaker 0

现在是六月三十日,星期二。

And right now, it's Tuesday, June 30.

Speaker 0

我上个星期六刚完赛。

I finished last Saturday.

Speaker 0

严格来说,应该是周日,因为那时候大概快到午夜了,我记得是这样。

Well, I should say Sunday, technically, because it was, I think, around midnight, I want to say.

Speaker 0

具体时间我有点记不清了。

I don't remember exactly.

Speaker 0

不过说实话,我现在还是特别累。

But yeah, I am still pretty wrecked.

Speaker 0

我这么累的原因是,这是我第一次真正把所有力气都耗光了。

And the reason why I am wrecked is because this is also the first race where I believe I went 100% draining the tank.

Speaker 0

跑了三十多场超马,我以前从没这么拼过。

After doing over 30 plus ultramarathons, I've never done that.

Speaker 0

以前总觉得,多多少少还能再撑一点。

Like, I've always felt like I had more to give in some way, shape, or form.

Speaker 0

但这次,我真的是把所有力气都用尽了。

But this was probably the first race where I really, really left it all out on the table.

Speaker 0

有意思的是,以前有几场比赛,如果提前问我,我还会觉得那几次已经拼尽全力了。

And it's funny because there were a few races where if you asked me that question beforehand where I would have thought, yeah, I left it out on the table.

Speaker 0

但在西部山区赛之后,我意识到自己还能做得更多。

But I learned at Western States that there is more.

Speaker 0

以前的比赛中,我体内其实还藏着更多能量,这次终于挖出来了,帮我熬过了无数低谷、挣扎和剧痛。

There was more in the tank that maybe I could have given in the prior races that I was able to tap into here to really push through a lot of the low moments and the struggles and a lot of pain.

Speaker 0

我想跟你们说说这种体验,因为这次我真的拼到了最后一口气。

And yeah, I want to share what that experience is like because, yeah, I really left it all out on the table.

Speaker 0

而最适合这么做的地方,就是西部山区100公里赛。

And this was the place to do it, Western States 100K.

Speaker 0

所以接下来,我会带你们完整回顾这一天、整场比赛,所有心得和领悟。

So yeah, we're going to go through the whole day, the whole race, all the takeaways, all the lessons.

Speaker 0

我很期待跟你们聊这段经历。

And I'm excited to dive into this podcast.

Speaker 0

而且我现在咖啡因上头,毕竟比赛才过去几天,我到现在还是被掏空的状态。

And I'm also hopped up on a ton of caffeine because this is only a few days removed and I still am just feeling destroyed.

Speaker 0

但我知道你们一定想听这段故事。

But I knew you guys wanted to hear this.

Speaker 0

所以我才想上来分享这段经历。

And so that's why I wanted to hop on here and share it.

Speaker 0

而且趁着所有想法还新鲜,咱们这就开始。

And also while all the the thoughts and everything are fresh, so we're going to dive in.

Speaker 0

在进入正题之前,我得特别感谢我在西部州100公里的后勤团队。

Before we dive into the podcast, though, I've to give a huge shout out to my crew there at Western States.

Speaker 0

没有他们,我根本撑不下来。

Could not have done it with my crew.

Speaker 0

首先是我的妻子,莱克西·科西恩,我太爱你了。

First of all, my amazing wife, Lexi Corcione, love you so much.

Speaker 0

你真的太棒了。

You are amazing.

Speaker 0

我们的后勤主管,确保我得到妥善照顾,还让我在补给站能快速通过,这太关键了。

Crew chief extraordinaire out there, making sure that I'm taken care of and just making sure that I'm getting out of the aid stations quickly, which is amazing.

Speaker 0

亚伦·弗莱舍,我最好的朋友之一,也是最给力的后勤,他为我做的后勤支持,比任何人都多,贯穿了我的整个越野生涯。

Aaron Fleisher, one of my best friends, also crew extraordinaire, has crewed me more than any other person in any race or any other person in my whole ultracareer.

Speaker 0

特别感谢 Erin 一直在现场支持。

So shout out to Erin for being out there.

Speaker 0

Christian Carlson 负责拍摄我们即将推出的这部纪录片。

Christian Carlson was shooting the documentary that we're going to be doing on this.

Speaker 0

Sydney Park 在现场为社交媒体拍摄 Instagram 内容。

Sydney Park was out there who she was taking Instagram content for social media.

Speaker 0

Hunter Kacenich 不仅帮我补给,还陪我跑了最后二十英里,还有 Jared Hazen。

Hunter Kacenich, who not only crewed me, but also paced me the last twenty miles, and then Jared Hazen.

Speaker 0

没错,就是那位传奇的 Jared Hazen。

Yes, that Jared Hazen, legendary Jared Hazen.

Speaker 0

如果你还不认识 Jared,那我告诉你,那年 Jim Wamsley 打破赛会纪录的时候,Jared 以第二名完赛,同时也打破了纪录,成绩大约是十四个小时二十分钟,那是当时 Western States 历史上最快的几个成绩之一。

If you don't know who Jared is, the year that Jim Wamsley broke the course record, Jared came in second place, also breaking the course record, running something around like fourteen hours and twenty minutes, one of the fastest times ever run at Western States at the time.

Speaker 0

所以那时候,他的成绩是历史上第二快的。

So I think it was, at the time, was the second fastest ever.

Speaker 0

能和 Jared 一起跑完这段路,真的太棒了。

So it was awesome to get to Rome with Jared.

Speaker 0

特别感谢我那支出色的后勤团队。

So huge shout out to my amazing crew out there.

Speaker 0

没有他们,我根本撑不下来,必须把所有的功劳都归给他们。

Couldn't have done it without them and had to give them all the lullameness.

Speaker 0

其次,我想感谢每一位 EverydayUltra 的朋友,我收到了无数条消息、短信和邮件,全是温暖的鼓励。

Secondly, I want to thank you, the EVERYDAYULTRA community, because I got so many messages and texts and emails and just so many kind messages.

Speaker 0

请知道,你们就是我坚持下去的动力。

And just know that you guys are my reason why I keep pushing.

Speaker 0

你们让我在低谷时挺了过来——接下来我会提到,这场比赛里我经历了好几次低谷,但正是你们给了我力量。

You are the reason why I overcame the low moments, as I'll talk about, because there was several low moments in this race that really, really helped me.

Speaker 0

谢谢你们不仅给予支持,更成为我每天前行的灵感,哪怕在最艰难的时刻。

So thank you for not only your support, but thank you for being the inspiration that always fuels me to keep going every single day and even in the low moments.

Speaker 0

第三,我特别想感谢三位最重要的合作伙伴。

And thirdly, I really want to thank three key main partners that I work with.

Speaker 0

首先,也是最重要的,是 Mount to Coast。

First and foremost is Mount to Coast.

Speaker 0

特别感谢 Mount to Coast。

Huge shout out to Mount to Coast.

Speaker 0

整场比赛我都穿着他们的 M1 鞋子。

I wore their M1s for the entire race.

Speaker 0

这双鞋真的太棒了。

And it's an incredible shoe.

Speaker 0

他们家的鞋款也很全,有 H1、R1、C1 和 T1。

They also have a great lineup of shoes, the H1s, the R1s, the C1s, the T1s.

Speaker 0

所有这些鞋都是专为超马设计的。

All these shoes are designed for ultramarathons.

Speaker 0

不仅鞋子出色,它们还完美体现了超马运动的精神。

And not only are the shoes are amazing, but they embody everything of what the ethos of ultrarunning is about.

Speaker 0

真的非常感谢他们。

So really, really thankful for them.

Speaker 0

如果你想试试,可以去 mounttocoast.com,用代码 EVERYDAYULTRA 享受八五折优惠。

If you want to give them a try, you can go to mounttocoast.com and use code EVERYDAYULTRA for 15% off your order.

Speaker 0

还要感谢Hyper Light Liquid Performance,这次比赛我主要靠它补充能量。

Also want to thank Hyper Light Liquid Performance, which was my main nutrition source out there.

Speaker 0

这绝对是目前最好的能量补给。

Best nutrition in the game.

Speaker 0

我真的很喜欢。

Love it.

Speaker 0

这次比赛天气有点热,液体卡路里特别合适。

Liquid calories were perfect for this race given that it was a little warm.

Speaker 0

往年通常都挺凉快,但今年还是挺热的。

Historically cool year, but still warm.

Speaker 0

如果没有它,我根本不可能冲到终点,必须给Hyperlite点个赞。

And could have not made it to the finish line without them, so shout out Hyperlite.

Speaker 0

如果你也想试试Hyperlite,去hyperliteliquidperformance.com,用代码EVERYDAYULTRA还能再打八五折。

And you can also get 15% off your order of Hyperlite if you use the code EVERYDAYULTRA at hyperliteliquidperformance.com.

Speaker 0

网址是h Y P E R L Y T E,liquidperformance.com。

That's h Y P E R L Y T E, liquidperformance.com.

Speaker 0

第三是PlayOn止痛产品。

And thirdly is PlayOn pain relief.

Speaker 0

我得说,我的大腿肌肉在这次比赛中彻底垮了,待会儿我会细说。

Let me tell you, my quads got destroyed out there, which I'll talk about.

Speaker 0

多亏了PlayOn,我才撑得住,最终完成了比赛。

And because of PlayOn, I was able to really push through and, get that thing done out there.

Speaker 0

因为它能在几秒钟内缓解肌肉酸痛。

So, because it helped to relieve soreness in a matter of seconds.

Speaker 0

如果你想试试,可以去playonrelief.com,在结账时输入代码EVERYDAYULTRA,享受八折优惠。

And if you want to give them a try, you can go to playonrelief.com and use code EVERYDAYULTRA at checkout for 20% off your order.

Speaker 0

好了。

All right.

Speaker 0

接下来我也要聊聊这一集的内容。

Now let me dive into this episode here too.

Speaker 0

顺便说一句,我确实挺累的,但你知道吗?

By the way, pretty tired, but you know what?

Speaker 0

我们今天要燃起全场的气氛。

We're bringing the energy.

Speaker 0

这期节目我们一定把能量拉满。

We're going to bring the energy on this episode.

Speaker 0

绝对精彩到爆。

It's going to be awesome.

Speaker 0

特别能激励人。

It's going be motivating.

Speaker 0

完全是经典的乔式风格。

It's going be classic Joe.

Speaker 0

所以我在赛前播客里说过,如果你想有所贡献,想有所作为,想在生活里创造价值,就得哪怕累得要死也照样到场。

So I said in the pre race podcast in this episode that if you want to contribute, if you want to perform, if you want to be someone who is adding value in life, you have to show up even when you're tired.

Speaker 0

这道理对超马也一样适用。

And that goes for ultramarathons as well.

Speaker 0

我现在虽然累得不行,但咱们还是得照旧把这期节目好好做下去。

So we're going to do that same damn thing on this podcast right now because I'm tired.

Speaker 0

但你知道吗?

But you know what?

Speaker 0

我准备好全力以赴,把这场回顾讲给你听,咱们这就开干。

I'm ready to go the distance to share this recap with you and we're going to freaking do it.

Speaker 0

那咱们开始吧。

So let's go.

Speaker 0

咱们先聊聊西部山区一百英里耐力赛吧,如果你还不了解这场赛事的话。

So let's just talk about Western States one hundred and the race and the history if you're unfamiliar of Western States 100K.

Speaker 0

西部山区一百英里赛其实是全世界第一场一百英里越野赛。

So Western States is actually the first 100 mile race in the entire world.

Speaker 0

它也是最古老的一百英里赛事。

And it's the oldest 100 mile race.

Speaker 0

可以说,正是它开启了现代人所熟知的一百英里越野赛传统。

It pretty much kicked off the 100 mile distance as we know it in the world.

Speaker 0

它的起源故事特别精彩。

And the origin story is awesome.

Speaker 0

戈迪·艾恩斯莱,我记得大概是五十四、五十五年前吧,差不多就是那时候。

So Gordie Ainslay, I believe it was like fifty four, fifty five years ago, somewhere around there.

Speaker 0

差不多是五十多年前的事了。

It was like some just over fifty years ago.

Speaker 0

这条路上有一场叫蒂瓦斯杯的比赛。

So there's a race on the same trail called the Tivas Cup.

Speaker 0

蒂瓦斯杯也是在这条路线上跑一百英里,不过骑的是马。

And the Tivas Cup is a 100 mile race on the same course, but it's with horses.

Speaker 0

这项比赛已经办了很多年了。

And that race had been running for a while.

Speaker 0

戈迪以前也骑马参加过。

And Gordy had done it with horses in the past.

Speaker 0

有一年他本来打算再去,结果马腿受伤了,没法参赛。

And this one year, he was going to go do it, but his horse went lame and couldn't race the race on the horse.

Speaker 0

于是戈迪灵机一动,心想:既然没马,那我就干脆用脚跑完这条路线,跟马一起比。

But Gordy had the idea of, hey, well, if I don't have a horse, let me just race the horses on foot and do this on foot.

Speaker 0

大家都觉得他疯了。

And people thought he was crazy.

Speaker 0

他们说:天哪,你怎么可能做到?

They were like, oh my gosh, how can you do that?

Speaker 0

他自己也不确定能不能完成,但还是决定去试一试。

He didn't even know if he could do it, but he wanted to go out and do it.

Speaker 0

结果他真做到了。

And he did it.

Speaker 0

我记得他是徒步在二十四小时之内跑完了全程,简直不可思议。

He completed it on foot in under twenty four hours I believe, which is crazy.

Speaker 0

那天温度高达108华氏度,天气热得离谱,但那就是第一届西部山区100英里越野赛。

And it was like 108 degrees, like crazy temperatures and everything, but that was the first running of the Western States one hundred.

Speaker 0

特别有趣的是,如果你去查超马比赛的历史成绩,第一届的名单上,就只有戈迪一个人的名字,太酷了。

What's super funny, if you go on ultramarathon and you go through the results, I believe the first year, if you click the first year of results, it's just Gordy's name on there, which is awesome.

Speaker 0

后来这些年,它逐渐成了正式比赛。

And over the years, it became an official race.

Speaker 0

它不仅成为了一项正式赛事,还成了美国越野跑者挑战百英里的顶级比赛。

And it not only became an official race, but it also became the premier competitive race for one hundred mile athletes in The United States.

Speaker 0

这些年来,它俨然成了美国越野长跑的全国锦标赛。

And so over the years, I mean, it is garnered to be the US championships basically of trail ultrarunning.

Speaker 0

每年都有全世界最顶尖的越野跑者专程赶来参加这场比赛。

And every single year, it has garnered the best ultrarunners in the world to come out and compete at this race.

Speaker 0

你要是看看今年西部山区赛的参赛名单,简直让人瞠目结舌。

I mean, if you looked at the lineup over Western States this year, I mean, was just absolutely insane.

Speaker 0

那里面全是顶尖选手,比如阿比·霍尔、珍妮弗·利希特、吉姆·沃尔斯利、基利安·多尔内,数都数不过来。

You had some of the best names in the sport out there, such as Abby Hall and Jennifer Lichter and Jim Walmsley, Killian Dornay, like, just so many people out there.

Speaker 0

每年都是这样,从没变过。

And that's how it's like every single year.

Speaker 0

西部山区赛之所以特别,不只是因为它的历史,更因为那里的人情味。

And the thing that makes Western States so special is not only the history, but the community out there.

Speaker 0

志愿者们简直太了不起了。

I mean, the volunteers are just absolutely unreal.

Speaker 0

我觉得这场比赛期间有1500名志愿者,简直让人难以置信。

And I think they had 1,500 volunteers over the course of the race, which is just absolutely crazy.

Speaker 0

那种氛围真的太震撼了。

And the energy is unreal.

Speaker 0

这场比赛有一种独特的魅力,不仅吸引了顶尖选手,也让大众越野跑爱好者深深着迷,因为现在想参加必须通过抽签。

And there's just a different energy about that race that has garnered not only the competition, but the love of mainstream ultrarunning because you have to get in through a lottery process now.

Speaker 0

抽签难度特别大,人人都想参加,但只有大约253个抽签名额。

And the lottery process is really, really, really hard to get picked because everybody wants to get into this race, and they only have about two fifty three lottery spots.

Speaker 0

自从获得官方许可成为正式赛事以来,参赛总人数就再也没有增加过,这是为了尊重这片土地。

And they have not increased the amount of total runners on the race since the times that they've got the official permits to do this as a full race because they do it to be respectful of the land that is out there.

Speaker 0

随着越野跑,尤其是西部州赛的热度持续攀升,想进这场比赛变得越来越难。

So as demand for not only Western states but ultrarunning has grown, it has become harder and harder and harder to get into this race.

Speaker 0

所以你现在得先跑一场资格赛才行。

And so you have to go through this process by running a qualifier.

Speaker 0

然后才能报名参加抽签。

You put your name in the lottery.

Speaker 0

一旦抽中,你就成功了。

If you get picked, you're in.

Speaker 0

如果没抽中,明年就得再跑一次资格赛。

If you don't get picked, you have to run another qualifier the next year.

Speaker 0

而且你报名的年数越多,中签几率会累积增加。

And that will actually compound your tickets by the years that you put in.

Speaker 0

比如第一年你报一次,没中,第二年就变成两次。

So for example, first year you put in as one, you don't get picked, it goes two the next year.

Speaker 0

第三年变成四次,然后四变八,八变十六,十六变三十二。

Then the year after that, it goes four, then four to eight, eight to sixteen, sixteen to 32.

Speaker 0

也就是说,每年你的中签票数都会翻倍,直到你被抽中为止。

So it basically doubles each year of tickets until you get picked.

Speaker 0

这次参赛,我手里有八张票。

Now I had eight tickets going into this race.

Speaker 0

这意味着我已经连续申请了四年了。

That means I've been applying to the lottery for four years.

Speaker 0

他们总会公布,如果你有特定数量的申请票,中签的概率是多少。

And they always announce the odds of, if you have a specific ticket count, what is your percentage of getting in?

Speaker 0

我有八张票,中签率是2.4%。

And so I had eight tickets, and my percentage of getting in was 2.4%.

Speaker 0

也就是说,我只有2.4%的几率能中。

So I had a 2.4% chance.

Speaker 0

顺便说一下,那些有128张票的人,中签率是32.7%。

Just to give some context, too, that for people who had 128 tickets, you had a 32.7% chance.

Speaker 0

这还不算稳当。

That's not a lock.

Speaker 0

有256张票的话,中签率是54.8%。

Two fifty six tickets, 54.8% chance.

Speaker 0

512张票,那可是得申请很多年才行。

And five twelve tickets, which is, I mean, just a crazy amount of years.

Speaker 0

我觉得那得是好多年了吧,真的挺久的。

I think that's like, yeah, I mean, that's just a lot of years.

Speaker 0

百分之七十九点六。

Seventy nine point six percent.

Speaker 0

太不可思议了。

So crazy.

Speaker 0

尽管如此,今年我还是靠着2.4%的概率中了抽签。

All that being said, though, I got picked in the lottery this year with a 2.4% chance.

Speaker 0

我简直不敢相信。

And I was stunned.

Speaker 0

我完全震惊了。

I was shocked.

Speaker 0

如果你想看我在Instagram上反应的视频,上面有。

If you want to go see the video reaction to me on Instagram, it's on there.

Speaker 0

我当时录了下来,镜头里的我有多震惊,现实中的我就有多震惊。

I live recorded it, and I'm literally as stunned as I look in that video.

Speaker 0

但这次比赛对我来说意义非凡,不只是因为比赛本身、历史背景,还有所有相关的那些事。

But this was a race that meant so much to me personally, not only because of the competition and the history and everything that goes around it.

Speaker 0

但对我而言,刚接触超马的时候——如果有人还不了解我的经历——我之所以开始跑超马,是因为我吸毒成瘾。

But for me, when I was first getting into ultrarunning for those who don't know my story, I got into ultrarunning because I was addicted to drugs.

Speaker 0

那时候我深受抑郁和焦虑困扰,甚至觉得自己一无是处。

And I was dealing with a lot of depression, anxiety, and ultimately feeling like I did not appreciate myself.

Speaker 0

我根本不懂得爱自己。

I didn't have a lot of self love.

Speaker 0

正因如此,我才开始吸毒。

And that led me to take drugs.

Speaker 0

我特别依赖阿得拉。

Specifically, I was addicted to Adderall.

Speaker 0

还大量吸食可卡因。

Was taking a lot of cocaine.

Speaker 0

喝酒也喝得很凶。

I was drinking heavily.

Speaker 0

我做这一切,是因为我讨厌当时的自己。

And the reasons I was doing all that was because I did not like the person who I was.

Speaker 0

吃了这些药之后,我就能变成我想成为的那个人,拥有那些特质和品质。

And when I took these drugs, that allowed me to become this person that I wanted to be, like through the characteristics and the qualities and everything.

Speaker 0

但内心深处,我特别没安全感,心想:天哪,我居然得靠吸毒才能变成这样。

But deep down, I had such an insecurity about, wow, I need to do drugs in order to be this person.

Speaker 0

这让我对自己产生了深深的自卑,因为我害怕付出必要的艰苦努力,不仅去成为那样的人,甚至我都不相信真有可能变成那样。

And that led me to have this deep insecurity about who I was because I was afraid to do the hard work necessary to not only become that person, but I just, I didn't even believe that it was possible to become that person.

Speaker 0

因为在我的成长过程中,我觉得很多深受严重抑郁和焦虑困扰的人,包括我自己,都会有这种想法:认为现在的自己就是定型了,也就是说,你现在的这些特质会伴随你一生,怎么改都没用。

Because growing up and I think a lot of people who deal with extreme depression and anxiety and I can share this because this is my experience personally is you can believe that who you are is a fixed person, meaning that the qualities that you currently have are with you for the rest of your life, there's nothing that you can do about it.

Speaker 0

所以,你要么天生这样,要么就不是。

And so you're either born this way or you're not born this way.

Speaker 0

我一年级的时候被确诊为注意力缺陷多动障碍。

And so when I was in first grade, I was diagnosed with ADHD.

Speaker 0

从一年级起,医生、老师和社会都告诉我,我必须服用利他林,才能像个正常人一样在课堂上表现,进而融入社会。

And I was told ever since I was in first grade by doctors, by teachers, by society that I had to take Adderall in order to function as a normal person in class and therefore society.

Speaker 0

所以,从很小的时候起,我就一直抱着这种观念。

And so even just from a very young age, that was the belief that I had.

Speaker 0

因为我有这种固定心态,总觉得生来就是个残缺的人,不靠吃药就没法像正常人一样生活。

And because I had this fixed mindset, I believed I was born this broken person who just couldn't be a regular functioning member of society if I wasn't taking drugs.

Speaker 0

当然,那时候我才上一年级,根本不可能有意识地意识到这些。

Now, I didn't obviously consciously know that at the time when I was in fricking first grade.

Speaker 0

那得是多开明的小学生啊。

That would be a very enlightened first grader.

Speaker 0

但这些想法不知不觉就藏在我心里了。

But it subconsciously was in the back of my mind.

Speaker 0

我以前总以为,自己取得的任何成就,其实都只是药物的功劳——不过现在回想起来,其实我根本没真正意识到这一点。

And I realized that any success that I had or anything like that I shouldn't say I realized, but I thought that it was just due to the drugs.

Speaker 0

这意味着,一旦没了药,我就什么也不是。

And that meant that without the drugs, I was nobody.

Speaker 0

正因如此,我一直觉得自己这辈子注定就是这个样子了。

And because of that, I thought I was destined to be that person for the rest of my life.

Speaker 0

后来,我经历了一连串糟糕透顶的事:我谈了五年的女朋友,我一直以为会和她结婚,结果她离开了我。

And fast forward through a very bad series of unfortunate events where this girl that I was dating for five years who I thought I was going to marry, she left me.

Speaker 0

我辞掉了在华尔街的工作。

I left my job on Wall Street.

Speaker 0

然后搬回去和父母住,那时候我和他们的关系并不好。

And I moved back in with my parents who I didn't have a good relationship with at the time.

Speaker 0

我几乎没什么朋友,因为那时我整个人都特别消沉。

And, basically I had no friends because I was just such a, just such an unhappy person.

Speaker 0

我躺在童年老家的地板上,抬头看着我长大的那个房间的天花板。

And I was in the floor of my childhood home looking up, at the ceiling in the room where I grew up in.

Speaker 0

我不知道当时怎么了,但脑子里突然冒出一个问题:我怎么会落到这步田地?

And I don't know what it was, but something clicked in my head to say, how did I lead up here?

Speaker 0

我意识到,如果继续这样下去,情况只会变得更糟。

And I realized if I kept doing what I was doing that it would only get worse from here.

Speaker 0

于是,我打开电脑。

And so what I did was I hopped on the computer.

Speaker 0

我直接输入了搜索关键词。

I literally typed in.

Speaker 0

我在谷歌上搜了怎么戒酒。

I said, how do I get sober in Google.

Speaker 0

我就是这么做的。

That's what I did.

Speaker 0

这成了我的做法。

That was my thing.

Speaker 0

我看了大量关于如何戒酒的文章。

And I was reading all the things on how to get sober.

Speaker 0

反复出现的共同建议是什么?

And what was the common thing that came up over and over again?

Speaker 0

最常见的建议就是运动。

The common thing was exercise.

Speaker 0

我这辈子几乎没怎么运动过。

Now, I had rarely exercised in my life.

Speaker 0

我唯一真正参与过的体育活动就是打高尔夫。

The only time that I really ever did anything athletic was play golf.

Speaker 0

那是我高中时唯一玩过的运动。

That was the only sport that I played in high school.

Speaker 0

那是我唯一稍微接触过的运动,一方面是因为我根本没什么运动天赋。

That was the only sport that I ever even dabbled in because, number one, I was very unathletic.

Speaker 0

每次打街头球类,别人看到我接球或者跑步都会笑我,我总是笨手笨脚的。

Like every time I would play pickup sports, people would laugh at me about how I catch a ball or how I ran and I would just be clumsy.

Speaker 0

再说回那个根深蒂固的想法,我一直觉得自己生来就不擅长运动,所以我就认了这个身份。

And again, going back to that deep seated belief, I believe that I was born unathletic, so therefore that's who I was.

Speaker 0

所以我还是去打高尔夫了。

So I went ahead and played golf.

Speaker 0

我不是说高尔夫不运动,但至少它算得上一项体育活动。

Now, not saying golf is unathletic, but it's arguably a sport.

Speaker 0

我说这话是有资格的,毕竟我确实打高尔夫。

And I can say that because I play golf.

Speaker 0

但归根结底,我根本没试过任何锻炼,因为我一直觉得自己天生就不是运动型的人。

But nonetheless, I just didn't even try anything exercise related because I just thought that I just wasn't this innate athlete.

Speaker 0

我确实不是。

And I wasn't.

Speaker 0

我真的不是那种人。

I genuinely wasn't.

Speaker 0

但我一直觉得,自己不可能变成一个运动型的人。

But I believed that I couldn't become an athlete.

Speaker 0

所以每当我看到锻炼这件事。

And so I saw exercise.

Speaker 0

我第一反应就是:天啊,我不确定自己能不能行,因为我太菜了。

And my initial thought was like, well, man, I don't know if I can do this because I suck.

Speaker 0

我在运动方面特别差。

And I suck at being athletic.

Speaker 0

这些事儿我全都不行。

I suck at all this stuff.

Speaker 0

但我还是想,也许该试试看,毕竟这对戒酒有帮助。

And I was like, but maybe I should give it a try because it will help to get sober.

Speaker 0

所以我一直在脑子里反复琢磨。

And so I did all the contemplating in my head.

Speaker 0

我想,我才不去健身房呢,我笨手笨脚的,怕别人笑话我,尤其是我还在老家,熟人多。

And I was like, well, I don't want to go to the gym because I am clumsy and I don't want people to make fun of me, especially because I was going to I was in my hometown.

Speaker 0

我也不想让以前的同学,特别是高中时候的人看到我。

I didn't want anyone from school to see me from high school or anything of such, too.

Speaker 0

我就对自己说:好吧,有什么事是别人看不到、也不会笑话我的,我可以试试的?

I told myself, I was like, Okay, well, what is one thing that I can do that won't have people see me or make fun of me that I can give a try?

Speaker 0

然后我想,要不试试跑步?

And I was like, well, what about running?

Speaker 0

嗯,行吧。

I was like, oh, well, all right.

Speaker 0

那就先试试看吧。

I guess I can give it a try.

Speaker 0

我可以每天早上四点起床,在没人看得见的黑夜里跑,这样就能安心试试了。

I can wake up at 4AM every morning, do it in the dark where no one sees me, and therefore I can just give it a shot.

Speaker 0

于是我决定,好,我去跑步。

So I said, Okay, I'm going to go run.

Speaker 0

我就去了商店。

So I went to the store.

Speaker 0

买了一双跑鞋。

I bought some running shoes.

Speaker 0

还买了条运动短裤。

I got some running shorts.

Speaker 0

该买的都置办齐了。

I got all the things.

Speaker 0

然后我就想着,出去跑一趟吧。

And I was like, I'm going to go out and run.

Speaker 0

那天是我第一次跑步。

And that day was the first day that I ran.

Speaker 0

这事儿背后其实有好多细节可以讲。

And there's a whole plethora of things that can go into the details of the story.

Speaker 0

但简而言之,这些细节咱们留到下一期播客再说吧。

But long story short, we can say that for another podcast.

Speaker 0

我再回到西部地区耐力赛这个话题。

I'm getting back to the Western States thing.

Speaker 0

当我逐渐深入跑步这项运动时,我读了一本叫《吃与跑》的书,作者是斯科特·杰里克。

Getting back to the Western States thing was as I was progressing in the sport of running, I picked up a book called Eat and Run by Scott Jerick.

Speaker 0

如果你不认识斯科特·杰里克,那我告诉你,他是史上最伟大的超马选手之一,赢过无数次西部地区赛,也拿过无数其他赛事的冠军。

And in the book, Scott Jerick if you don't know who Scott Jerick is, one of the greatest ultramarunners of all time, tons of wins at Western States, tons of wins at many other races.

Speaker 0

简直就是传奇人物。

I mean, just an absolute legend.

Speaker 0

但他在书里讲到了自己参加西部地区一百英里赛跑的经历。

But he talked about running the Western States one hundred in that book.

Speaker 0

他谈到这场比赛对他而言承载了多少历史意义,有多重要,当他拼尽全力跑出巅峰表现时,这不仅奠定了他运动员生涯的基石,也让他真正看清了自己能走到哪一步。

And he talked about how much history and how much this race meant to him and how much it meant to him to go out there and have the performance of his life and how that really solidified not only his career as an athlete, but also what he showed himself and what he was capable of doing.

Speaker 0

那是我第一次读到关于百英里赛跑的故事,它深深打动了我,让我心里冒出一个念头:我真不知道自己能不能做到。

And that was the first 100 mile race that really I read about that spoke to me and said, I don't know how I'm going to do it.

Speaker 0

我不知道该怎么训练自己跑完一百英里。

I don't know how I'm going to train myself up to do 100 miles.

Speaker 0

因为那时候我连第一个五公里都没跑过。

Because at the time, hadn't even done my first five ks.

Speaker 0

但我心里就想,总有一天我要跑这场比赛。

But I was like, I want to run this race one day.

Speaker 0

从那一刻起,这个念头就在我心里生了根。

And the seed was planted from that moment on.

Speaker 0

那是2018年。

That was 2018.

Speaker 0

我就想着,总有一天我要跑西方州一百英里。

And I was like, I'm going to run Western States one hundred one day.

Speaker 0

这个想法在我脑子里越来越强烈,仿佛一切都在为西方州赛做准备。

And it became this thought in my mind that it was always building up to Western States.

Speaker 0

在此之前,我已经完成了不少训练和比赛。

Like, I had done a lot of things leading up to it.

Speaker 0

我先是跑五公里,然后十公里,接着半马,之后是五十公里,再是五十英里,还有铁人三项,各种项目都试了个遍。

Like, I ran five ks, then 10 ks, then a half marathon, then I did 50 ks, and then 50 miler, and Ironmans, and all this stuff.

Speaker 0

最后终于完成了我的第一场百英里赛跑,全都做到了。

And then eventually did my first 100 miler and everything, too.

Speaker 0

但一路上我都清楚,我真正想朝着的目标,就是参加西部山区百英里赛跑。

And all along the way, though, I knew that one of the places that I wanted to build towards was running Western States one hundred.

Speaker 0

当我被抽中的时候,那种感觉真的像在做梦一样。

And so when I got picked, I mean, it was a surreal experience.

Speaker 0

我立刻给妻子打了电话。

I called my wife right away.

Speaker 0

我哭得稀里哗啦,因为太开心、太感恩,也太不敢相信了。

And I was in tears because I was just so happy and so grateful and so stunned.

Speaker 0

我知道,能参加这场赛事,尤其是以我这样的几率入选,我必须全力以赴,把最好的状态带到赛场上。

But I knew that being a part of this race, getting into this race, especially getting into the race with the odds that I had, that I was going to give it my 100 best showing up to that race.

Speaker 0

不只是比赛当天拼尽全力,我为这场比赛做的训练,也是我人生中最认真、最投入的一段训练。

And not only my 100% best in the race, but the way that I was going to train for this race was going to be the best training block that I had put in.

Speaker 0

我参加这次比赛的承诺就是,我得到了这个机会。

And that was my commitment going into this was I got this opportunity.

Speaker 0

我终于有了机会,能参加这场我一直想跑的比赛。

I got this shot to line up to a race that I've been wanting to do.

Speaker 0

从概率上讲,像我这样的人根本不可能站上起跑线,但我还是来了。

And one that from a statistical standpoint shouldn't even be on that starting line just based on the odds that I had.

Speaker 0

一旦机会来了,你就得抓住。

And when you get the shot, you have to take it.

Speaker 0

你必须抓住它。

You have to take it.

Speaker 0

你得主动去掌控它。

You have to command it.

Speaker 0

你得把握住每一个能全力以赴的机会。

You have to seize every moment and opportunity that you have to do your very best at that shot.

Speaker 0

你们很多人应该都知道,我最爱的电影之一就是《洛奇》。

And a lot of you all know, one of my favorite movies of all time is Rocky.

Speaker 0

对于那些还不知道的人,还有那些知道的人,我再提醒一下,我是在跑西部山区赛之前刚看完《洛奇》的。

And for those who don't know and for those who do know, just as a reminder, I actually watched Rocky right before running Western States.

Speaker 0

但洛奇其实就是一个无名小卒,对吧?

But Rocky is this kind of nobody, right?

Speaker 0

他就是一个普通的本地拳手。

Like he's just like a local fighter.

Speaker 0

他从来都没发挥出真正的潜力。

He's never really reached his full potential.

Speaker 0

他平时靠帮高利贷收债来赚点外快。

He's doing this like loan shark job as like a side thing.

Speaker 0

他就是一个再普通不过的普通人。

Like he's just kind of this random dude.

Speaker 0

结果突然间,他得到了一个机会,要和拳王阿波罗·克里德打一场冠军赛。

And out of nowhere, he gets a shot to face Apollo Creed, who is the champion of boxing, in a title match.

Speaker 0

整部电影讲的就是洛奇如何抓住这个机会,拼尽全力。

And the whole movie is about Rocky making the most of his shot.

Speaker 0

某种程度上,我感觉自己就像洛奇。

And in a sense, I felt like Rocky in this.

Speaker 0

当然,我也没想着去争世界冠军之类的东西。

Of course, I'm not going for the world title or anything, too.

Speaker 0

但我对自己说,这就是机会了。

But I told myself, I was like, this is the shot.

Speaker 0

你必须抓住它。

And you've got to take it.

Speaker 0

你得全力以赴。

And you've got to go all in.

Speaker 0

于是我这么做了。

And so I did.

Speaker 0

我全身心投入了。

I went all in.

Speaker 0

我为这场比赛做的训练,无论是里程、爬升、耐热训练,还是投入和牺牲,都是前所未有的。

I mean, this training block that I put in for this race was the most volume, the most climbing, the most heat training, the most dedication, like the most sacrifices.

Speaker 0

这次训练,我比以往任何一次都倾注了全部心血,因为我真的想抓住这次机会。

I put my heart and soul into this training block more than any other training that I've done because I, again, wanted to take the shot.

Speaker 0

我说的‘抓住机会’,当然,我也会说到自己的目标,比如想跑出什么成绩。

And when I say take the shot, my goal going into the race of course, I'll talk about my time goal and what I wanted to set out to do.

Speaker 0

但我的核心目标是,既然站到了西部山区的起跑线上,我就要把所有力气都使出来。

But my whole goal was if I'm showing up to Western States, I want to give it literally everything I got.

Speaker 0

我要充分利用这段经历,珍惜这份来之不易的资格。

And I want to make the most out of the experience and make the most out of the privilege to be there and to be selected.

Speaker 0

我等这一天,已经等了太久。

And I had been waiting for this for so long.

Speaker 0

没想到它来得比我预想的早太多了。

And it became much earlier than I ever thought.

Speaker 0

我本来以为,至少得再等四年才会轮到我。

Like, I thought I'd be doing this like four years from now.

Speaker 0

我还以为,得连续八年抽签才能中选呢。

Like, I thought I'd getting in eight years of putting in the lottery.

Speaker 0

我刚好第四次抽中了。

And I just got into four.

Speaker 0

但我还是想试一试。

But I wanted to take the shot.

Speaker 0

所以在这里,我想直接跟大家说清楚。

So for anyone listening here, I'm just going to tell you this right off the bat.

Speaker 0

第一课就是:当你遇到机会,比如抽中了 Lottery,或者有人送你一个你梦寐以求的赛事名额,又或者你心里一直惦记着某件事——不管是比赛、FKT,还是某个挑战,它总在你脑子里转个不停。

Like, first lesson is that when you get an opportunity, when you get a shot, whether it's getting picked in the lottery, whether it's someone gives you a free entry to a race that you really want to do, whether it's you have that thing that's circling in your mind, whether it's a race or an FKT or a challenge, and you can't seem to get it out of your head.

Speaker 0

一遍又一遍地提醒你:去做吧,去做吧,一定要去做,而这时机会正好来了。

And it's just telling you over and over again to do the thing, do the thing, do the thing, and you have the opportunity to do it.

Speaker 0

那就抓住这一刻。

Seize that moment.

Speaker 0

朋友们,勇敢接受挑战,抓住机会,全力以赴,别给自己留任何遗憾。

My friends, seize the challenge, take the shot and don't leave anything on the table when you are going in pursuit of that thing.

Speaker 0

因为只要你有这个机会,有这个可能性,结果成不成功其实都没那么重要。

Because if you have the opportunity, if you have the shot, it doesn't matter whether or not you make the shot or not.

Speaker 0

最重要的是,你有没有全力以赴?

What matters most is did you go for it?

Speaker 0

你有没有拼到最后一刻?

Did you empty the tank?

Speaker 0

你有没有为这个机会投入全部的精力、决心和坚持?

Did you give it 100000000% effort and commitment and perseverance into that opportunity?

Speaker 0

因为关键从来不是你有没有成功抓住这个机会。

Because it's never about whether or not you nail the opportunity or not.

Speaker 0

而在于你有没有把它发挥到极致。

It's about did you take it to the fullest?

Speaker 0

因为我们从不后悔拼尽全力去尝试,但总会遗憾没有尽全力。

Because we will never regret being able to go into something and draining the tank, but we will always regret not giving it a 100%.

Speaker 0

当机会来临时,你绝不能低估自己,一定要倾尽所有。

And those are the times where you can't sell yourself short when opportunity arises because you want to give it your absolute all.

Speaker 0

所以首先我想说,只要有机会,就别犹豫,直接上!

And so first of all, I will just say this, if you have the opportunity, fricking take it.

Speaker 0

但这件事还有个麻烦,没错,我还在跑。

Because here's the other snag with this whole thing was, and yes, I'm still running it.

Speaker 0

我今年原本计划把巴德沃特135英里赛作为我的主攻赛事,也就是再过27天就要开了。

But my plan this whole year was to run Badwater one hundred thirty five as my A race, which by the way is in like twenty seven days from now.

Speaker 0

简直疯狂。

Crazy.

Speaker 0

没错,我依然在准备。

And yes, I'm still doing it.

Speaker 0

我本来打算全身心投入巴德沃特。

But my plan was to go all in on Badwater.

Speaker 0

结果我意外获得了西部山区赛的资格。

And then I ended up getting into Western States.

Speaker 0

一开始听说这事,我就想:如果我要全力冲巴德沃特,那还该不该参加西部山区赛?

And initially when that happened, I was like, well, if I want to go all in on Badwater, should I even do Western States?

Speaker 0

这想法本身就很荒唐,因为这可是我从小的梦想。

Which was such a crazy thought because I was like, this was my dream.

展开剩余字幕(还有 480 条)
Speaker 0

就像电影里的洛奇一样,这不算剧透吧。

And even Rocky in the movie, like this is not a spoiler.

Speaker 0

毕竟大家都知道他要打阿波罗·克里德那些事。

It's just like a, cause we all know that he fights Apollo Creed and stuff.

Speaker 0

但一开始有人问他要不要打阿波罗的时候,他直接说不干。

But when he's first given the opportunity to fight Apollo, like the guy goes, do you want to take this match?

Speaker 0

洛奇回答:不干。

And Rocky goes no.

Speaker 0

然后那人就跟他说:老兄,这可是你唯一的机会。

And and then the guy says, well, dude, this is your shot.

Speaker 0

这种机会一辈子都碰不上一次。

Like, like no one is gets this shot.

Speaker 0

你必须抓住它。

Like you got to take it.

Speaker 0

他这才反应过来:天啊,这机会我真得接。

And he realizes he's like, damn, I got to take the shot.

Speaker 0

那一刻,我就是这种感觉。

And, and that's how I felt in that moment.

Speaker 0

心想,我必须得抓住这个机会。

Was like, I got to take the shot.

Speaker 0

哪怕这意味着我要放弃巴德沃特比赛,或者在巴德沃特少拼一点,也要在这里全力以赴。

Even if I had Badwater after And forgo maybe a little bit more performance at Badwater to give it my all out of here too.

Speaker 0

另外,我再打个比方,我是个漫威迷。

So the other thing that I liken it to I'm just giving examples here is I'm a big Marvel fan.

Speaker 0

还有新版的蜘蛛侠。

And there's the new Spider Man.

Speaker 0

就是那部新蜘蛛侠三部曲里的第一部电影。

There's the first movie in that series in the trilogy of the new Spider Man trilogy.

Speaker 0

钢铁侠对蜘蛛侠说,嘿,你想去德国帮我们打那些家伙吗?

And Iron Man goes to Spider Man and says, hey, you want to go to Germany and help us to fight these guys and everything?

Speaker 0

他说,但我还有作业要做。

And he goes, but I have homework to do.

Speaker 0

托尼·斯塔克看着他,说:我权当没听见你这话。

And Tony Stark looks at him and goes, I'm going to pretend you didn't say that.

Speaker 0

我觉得我们常常被眼前的事困住,明明知道该放手一搏,却因为怕吃苦而犹豫不决。

And I think we can be so caught up about the things that are in the now that sometimes we get afraid to go take the shot because we know it's going to be hard.

Speaker 0

我们知道,这一搏会彻底打乱我们的生活。

We know it's going to disrupt our whole lives.

Speaker 0

我们知道,改变势在必行。

Like we know that changes are going to be made.

Speaker 0

但我得告诉你,朋友,这一切都值得。

But let me tell you, it is worth it, my friends.

Speaker 0

我跟你说,熬过西部山区100英里赛跑,熬过这段高强度的训练,一切都值得。

I'm telling you on the other side of Western States 100 and the other side of this massive training block that it is worth it.

Speaker 0

所以,别犹豫,放手去干吧。

So take the fricking shot and go for it.

Speaker 0

你一定会收获巨大——不只是完成目标的成就感,更是因为勇敢追梦而获得的人生满足。

And you will be rewarded greatly, not just in the achievement, but ultimately like with the fulfillment in life that you went for your dreams.

Speaker 0

就是这样,没别的了。

So there was that, that was it.

Speaker 0

就像我说的,我付出了大量的努力。

And, like I said, I put in tons of work.

Speaker 0

我跑过的周均百英里里程,比以往任何时候都多。

I've ran more weeks over a 100 miles than I've ever had.

Speaker 0

我这次做了两阶段的热身训练,通常我只做一阶段的,那也是我推荐给99%的人的做法。

I've done I did like a two stage heat block, which usually I do a one stage heat block, which I recommend for ninety nine percent of people.

Speaker 0

但这次我知道自己想全力以赴。

But again, I knew I wanted to go all out on this.

Speaker 0

我增加了爬升训练的量。

I did more climbing.

Speaker 0

下坡训练也做了很多,恢复方面更是格外重视。

I did a lot of descending, took my recovery super seriously.

Speaker 0

该做的全都做到了。

Like it was the works.

Speaker 0

到了比赛那天,我感觉自己准备得特别充分,随时都能出发。

And when it was race time, like I just felt so prepared and felt so ready to go.

Speaker 0

而且说实话,还没到起跑线我就已经心满意足了,因为比赛本身从来不是重点。

And yeah, just was, you know, I was fulfilled before I even towed the start line because, you know, it's never about the race.

Speaker 0

重点在于整个过程。

It's about the process.

Speaker 0

我特别兴奋能全身心投入到这个过程中去。

And I was just super stoked to give it my all into the process.

Speaker 0

到了比赛当天,我老说这句话。

And knowing that on race day, you know, I always say this.

Speaker 0

只要你能在训练中日复一日、周复一周、月复一月地全力以赴,那比赛那天——不管是跑一天,还是像200英里或超长距离100英里那样跑好几天——你只需要照着同样的方式坚持下去就行。

If you can give it your all in training day after day consistently, week after week, month after month, all you've got to do is just do that very same thing for one day in a race or multiple days if it's a 200 mile race or a really long 100 mile race.

Speaker 0

我说超长,指的是爬升特别多。

When I say really long, I mean climbing.

Speaker 0

就是脚底下的时间得再长一点而已。

And it just takes a little bit more time on feet.

Speaker 0

而且说实话,我对这一阶段的训练特别满意。

And yeah, I mean, I was just stoked on this training block.

Speaker 0

所以到了西部山区100英里赛的正式比赛日,我简直兴奋到了极点。

So it was go time for Western States one hundred and super, super excited about that.

Speaker 0

先说说赛道的一些基本情况,帮你有个大致印象,之后我会详细讲。

Now, just some facts about the course just so you can kind of envision it, and I'll go through the course in detail.

Speaker 0

西部山区100英里赛,顾名思义,全长一百英里。

Western States one hundred is obviously 100 miles long.

Speaker 0

比赛从加利福尼亚的奥林匹克山谷起跑,就是当年冬奥会举办的地方,在太浩湖区域附近。

It starts in Olympic Valley, California, which is where the Olympics took place in the Tahoe area.

Speaker 0

确切地说,就在太浩湖边上。

So it's just outside of the Lake Tahoe area.

Speaker 0

这是一条单向终点的路线。

And it's a point to point course.

Speaker 0

起点在一个地方。

So it starts in one place.

Speaker 0

终点在另一个地方。

It ends in another place.

Speaker 0

终点是加利福尼亚的奥本,被称为世界耐力之都。

And that ending place is Auburn, California, which is known as the endurance capital of the world.

Speaker 0

它离萨克拉门托大约三十分钟车程。

It is about thirty minutes or so outside of Sacramento.

Speaker 0

所以你是在北加州。

So you're in Northern California.

Speaker 0

你基本上会穿越群山。

And you basically go through the mountains.

Speaker 0

你会经过美洲河的峡谷。

You go through the canyons of the American River.

Speaker 0

沿途景色非常丰富多样。

It's very diverse.

Speaker 0

不过,这条山地赛道确实很精彩。

But, it is a cool course in the mountains nonetheless.

Speaker 0

全程爬升约一万八千英尺,下降约两万二千英尺。

It has about 18,000 feet of uphill and about 22,000 feet of downhill.

Speaker 0

所以整体来看,这是一条明显的下坡路线。

So it is a significant net downhill course.

Speaker 0

接下来说说这条路线的几个关键特点。

And, some key features of the course.

Speaker 0

第一,这场比赛通常在每年六月最后一个星期六举行,天气特别特别热。

Number one, it is usually a very, very, very hot race taking place at the last Saturday of June every single year.

Speaker 0

在加州奥本,夏天真的非常闷热。

In Auburn, California, it gets really hot.

Speaker 0

一般气温都在华氏九十到一百度之间。

Usually the temperature is around 90 to a 100 degrees Fahrenheit.

Speaker 0

但今年情况有点不一样。

Now this year was a little different.

Speaker 0

这是西部百英里赛历史上第三凉爽的一年,奥本当天最高气温只有七十二度。

It was the third coolest Western States on record, with a high in Auburn of 72 degrees.

Speaker 0

不过在峡谷那段,待会儿我会提到,确实热一点。

Now granted in the canyons, which I'll talk about in a bit, it was a little hotter.

Speaker 0

但72度对这场比赛来说,真是非常非常凉快的一年。

But, 72 degrees is a very, very cool year for that race.

Speaker 0

所以今年算是个例外。

So this year was a little bit of anomaly.

Speaker 0

可即便如此,七十多度还是七十多度。

But still, 70 plus degrees is still 70 plus degrees.

Speaker 0

这是其中一个特点。

So that's one feature on it.

Speaker 0

其次,比赛一开始就是大约三英里内爬升三千英尺。

Secondly, the race starts with a 3,000 foot climb in about three ish miles or so.

Speaker 0

这段叫作悬崖爬升,是史上最残酷的起跑段之一。

Known as the escarpment climb, it is one of the most brutal starts to a race ever.

Speaker 0

我现在看着路线图,起点大概在……

And you're starting at about I'm looking at the profile now.

Speaker 0

是的,你出发时海拔大约7000英尺。

Yeah, you're starting at about 7,000 feet.

Speaker 0

然后你要么下坡,抱歉,是上坡。

And then you descend or ascend, sorry.

Speaker 0

你要一直往上爬,到接近10000英尺的高度。

You ascend upwards to just under 10,000 feet.

Speaker 0

所以你会在高海拔地区待上相当一段时间。

So you're in pretty high altitude for a while.

Speaker 0

在你下坡前往奥本的路上,大部分路段都保持在4000英尺以上。

You're like up above 4,000 feet for a pretty long part as you're descending into Auburn.

Speaker 0

而且整条赛道大部分都挺适合跑步的。

And, most of the course is pretty runnable.

Speaker 0

路面很平顺。

It's pretty smooth.

Speaker 0

没什么特别陡峭或难走的地方。

It's not very technical.

Speaker 0

但有些陡峭的上坡路段,特别是那些峡谷地带。

But there's some steep uphills, notably the canyons.

Speaker 0

那些峡谷简直太残酷了。

The canyons are very, very brutal.

Speaker 0

你会陡降进入峡谷,再陡峭地爬出来。

There's steep descents into a canyon and there's steep ascents out of it.

Speaker 0

魔鬼拇指、埃尔多拉多,还有第三个我一时想不起名字了,但就在密歇根堡之后或紧邻那里。

Devil's Thumb, El Dorado, and I forgot what the third one's called, but it's coming out of or right after Michigan Bluff.

Speaker 0

实际上有三个峡谷非常有名,以难度著称,正好在比赛最热的时候出现,而且上下坡都极其陡峭,毫不留情。

But you basically got three canyons that are very, very historic, known for their difficulty, known for being in the middle of the race when it's pretty hot, and known for being unforgivably steep on both the descents and the uphills.

Speaker 0

这确实是这条赛道一个很特别的地方。

And yeah, that's like a pretty cool feature about the course.

Speaker 0

还有一些历史悠久的补给站。

And then there's some historic aid stations.

Speaker 0

比如非常有名的密歇根堡,就在一个小社区里,通常会聚集大量观众。

So really well known Michigan Bluff, which is kind of like in this small little community that usually has like a ton of people coming through.

Speaker 0

森林山是我在这辈子见过的最疯狂的补给站。

Forest Hill, which is the craziest aid station I've ever been into in my entire life.

Speaker 0

那是一条往下延伸的街道,还是个小小的小镇。

It is just a street that goes down, again, this small little town.

Speaker 0

但街道两旁站满了人。

But the streets are lined with people.

Speaker 0

大家都在狂欢。

Everyone's partying.

Speaker 0

有人免费发吃的。

People are giving away free food.

Speaker 0

那地方简直太疯狂了。

It's a crazy environment.

Speaker 0

过了森林山,接下来就是鲁基·恰基河渡口,大约在78英里处横渡美洲河。

You So got Forest Hill and then you got the Ruckie Chucky River crossing where you cross the American River at about mile 78.

Speaker 0

这些补给点都是特别有名的地方。

And, those are some very, very famous, aid station markers.

Speaker 0

最后,你在普莱瑟高中结束比赛,绕着跑道跑半圈,完成西部山区100英里越野赛。

And then at the end you finish in Placer High School where you do a half loop around a track to finish the Western States one hundred.

Speaker 0

你有大约三十个小时的时间完成这场比赛。

You have about thirty hours to finish the race.

Speaker 0

如果你在二十四小时内完赛,就能拿到珍贵的银铃奖扣——说实话,100英里爬升18000英尺,这难度真不是盖的。

And if you finish in less than twenty four hours, you get the coveted silver bell buckle, which let me tell you, like 18,000 feet for a 100 mile is a lot.

Speaker 0

在我看来,任何超过16000英尺爬升的100英里赛程都算得上是陡峭了。

Like, I consider a very hilly 100 mile race to be anything over 16,000 feet.

Speaker 0

所以18000英尺的爬升,这赛道确实相当陡峭。

So 18,000 feet is a pretty, pretty steep race.

Speaker 0

而22000英尺的下坡更是让人吃不消。

And 22,000 feet of downhill is also nuts.

Speaker 0

所以这赛道确实非常非常艰难。

So yeah, it is a tough, tough course for sure.

Speaker 0

这就是西部山区100英里越野赛。

And that is the Western States 100.

Speaker 0

太惊人了。

It is amazing.

Speaker 0

美得不得了。

It is beautiful.

Speaker 0

我觉得最棒的是它的多样性。

I think the coolest thing is the diversity.

Speaker 0

比赛前半段你大部分时间都在高海拔山区奔跑。

You're in the high alpine for a lot of the beginning of the race.

Speaker 0

到了中途,你就进入了一片加州特有的峡谷地带,有点像沙漠,但又不完全是。

And then the mid race, you're kind of in this California carpet, canyon kind of desert y ish environment.

Speaker 0

其实算不上真正的沙漠,因为到处都是绿意。

Not really like full desert, because there is a lot of greenery.

Speaker 0

但确实像是一场穿越北加州的奇妙旅程。

But it's yeah, it's just like a unique experience of like a tour of Northern California through it.

Speaker 0

还有补给站和志愿者,简直无可挑剔,特别热心,后面我会详细说,这就是关于西部山区100英里赛的一些情况。

And then the aid stations and the volunteers are just absolutely incredible and just yeah, just incredibly helpful people, as I'll go through in the details on this, But that's a little bit about Western States.

Speaker 0

好了,朋友们,咱们直接进入这场赛事的回顾吧,我知道你们都等很久了。

So anyways, my friends, let's get on the frigging recap of this because I know you all have been waiting.

Speaker 0

我也想先简单交代一下背景信息。

I just want to give some background and everything, too.

Speaker 0

要讲清楚这个故事,光了解西部100有多重要还不够,还得明白它对我个人意味着什么。

It is so important to the story to understand not only the significance of Western States, but also what it means to me personally.

Speaker 0

当年我读到斯科特·朱雷克的故事,看到他通过西部100发现了自己真正的潜力,那一刻我就下定决心,也要去挑战它。

Because Western States, again, was that when I read about Scott Jurek, seeing Western States as something that showed him what he was really capable of, for me, that was always something that I wanted to strive for and go for.

Speaker 0

能完成这场比赛,真的是一段难忘的经历。

And to be able to do that was just a memorable experience.

Speaker 0

整个训练期间,我反复反思自己的人生,比任何其他时候都多——从戒除毒瘾,到学会跑超马,创办《每日超马》,再到结婚,这一路走来,点点滴滴都在心头。

And even in the whole training block, I had so many reflections about my life in the training block more than any other stuff because I reflected on me overcoming drug addiction, me learning to run ultramarathons, me starting Everyday Ultra, just the whole journey, getting married and everything is such, too.

Speaker 0

这场比赛对我来说,就像为生命中这段深刻的自我蜕变画上了一个圆满的句号。

And this was just such a cathartic experience where it really just felt like a bookend to this massive chapter of my life of self transformation.

Speaker 0

所以,这个周末的这场比赛,对我而言格外特别。

And that's why this race, again, was just so special to me this weekend.

Speaker 0

好了,咱们开始复盘吧。

So anyways, let's get into the recap.

Speaker 0

比赛前一天,我反思了自己这次比赛想达成的三个主要目标。

Now the day before the race, I reflected on the three big goals that I wanted to accomplish for this race.

Speaker 0

第一个,也是最重要的,就是在这场比赛中平衡努力与感恩,这一点我在赛前那期节目里也提到过。

And so the first and most important thing and I talked about this in the pre Western States episode that I had was balance the grind and the gratitude in the race.

Speaker 0

这可是我最看重的一点。

That was my number one thing.

Speaker 0

我之前在赛前的节目里聊过,现在再重复一遍:很容易一进比赛就只盯着成绩,结果完全忘了活在当下。

And I talked about this on the pre pre episode, but I'll talk about it here again, too, is that I think it can be very easy to go into a race and just focus on the grind, so much so that you almost forget to be present.

Speaker 0

你几乎忘了去享受整个过程。

You almost forget to enjoy the experience.

Speaker 0

你几乎忘了去感受自己正在成就的这份美好。

You almost forget to really just soak in the beauty of what you're accomplishing.

Speaker 0

而我知道,这么一场我期待已久的赛事,我绝不能错过这些时刻。

And I knew that I didn't want to do that given that this was a race I'd been looking forward to for so long.

Speaker 0

这是一场我有幸能参加的赛事。

It was a race that I'm lucky to get in.

Speaker 0

如果我只是敷衍了事,只顾埋头苦跑,完全忽略了比赛本身的存在,我一定会后悔。

And if I had just waltzed by it and just been nose to the grindstone and just had ignored the presence of the race, I would have been disappointed.

Speaker 0

所以,这是我当时特别想把握好的一点。

And so that was one thing I wanted to keep in check.

Speaker 0

但同时,我也不想在比赛里漫无目的地闲逛。

But also at the same time, I didn't just want just lollygag through the race.

Speaker 0

因为以前我确实有过几次,明明是故意放慢节奏的。

Because sometimes I've had races where I wanted to lollygag, and intentionally so.

Speaker 0

你根本不拼尽全力,就想着:哎,反正就在这个补给站多待会儿,聊聊天,图个开心——当然,这完全没问题。

But you don't push yourself to the fullest because you're just like, ah, I'm just going to spend time at this aid station and just chat and just have fun, which by the way, there is literally nothing wrong with that.

Speaker 0

我经常跟人说,如果你想要的就是这样的比赛体验,那再好不过了。

I tell people all the time, if that's the experience that you want in the race, that is amazing.

Speaker 0

真的特别棒。

That is awesome.

Speaker 0

这真的没什么不对的。

And there's literally nothing wrong with that.

Speaker 0

我确实参加过一些比赛,那时候我就想,我只希望到场,好好享受一下。

And I've had races where it's been like that, where I said, all I want to do is just show up and have fun.

Speaker 0

比如那次URA一百英里,对我就是这样。

Like URA one hundred was that for me.

Speaker 0

我就想着,我只希望到场,好好享受。

I was like, I just want to show up and have fun.

Speaker 0

我根本不在乎自己的成绩。

And like, I don't care about my time.

Speaker 0

我就只想出去跑完就行。

Like, I just want to go out and finish.

Speaker 0

而这次,我想在拼命和感恩之间找到平衡。

And this one, I wanted to thread the needle between grinding and gratitude.

Speaker 0

所以我最在意的就是:我能不能在全力冲刺的同时,也在整整一百英里的路程里,保持专注和感恩?

And so that was my big thing was like, I wanted to find that balance between can I grind as hard as I possibly can while also being as present and grateful as I possibly can through the 100 miles?

Speaker 0

所以这就是我的第一个目标。

So that was goal number one.

Speaker 0

第二个目标呢,就是拼尽全力。

And so number two, the goal was give it my absolute all.

Speaker 0

我想找到那个极限在哪里。

I wanted to find that limit.

Speaker 0

我想彻底榨干自己,到最后一刻感觉一点力气都没剩下。

I wanted to find the place where I can just totally empty that tank to the point where I feel like I had nothing left to give at the end.

Speaker 0

这第二个目标对我很重要,虽然以前我觉得自己已经做到过,也以为自己知道那是什么感觉,但心里还是好奇。

And that was the number two thing for me because even though I had thought it'd been in the past, I was like, yeah, I've done that before, I was still curious.

Speaker 0

也许我其实并没有真正做到过,对吧?

I was like, maybe not, right?

Speaker 0

你总听说有人以为自己到极限了,结果突然一踩油门,又冲了出去。

Because you hear all the time where people think they can go a certain place, and then all of a sudden they get that second gear and then they just go.

Speaker 0

我以前参加比赛时,好多次都觉得自己已经到头了,觉得再也撑不下去了。

And I've just known so many times in my races in the past, I think that I'm at my breaking point or I think that I'm at like there's nowhere to go.

Speaker 0

结果最后一英里,我居然跑出了六分三十秒左右,甚至七分钟整的配速。

And then all of a sudden the last mile I'm running like a fricking six thirty or something or seven minute flat pace.

Speaker 0

那时候我就想,嘿,你明明还有余力。

And I'm like, well, yeah, you've got something to give.

Speaker 0

在那种时候,你其实还能再榨出一点来。

Like you've something to give at that point.

Speaker 0

我很喜欢基利安·科斯是怎么说的,他是我最好的朋友之一,也是EVERYDAYULTRA的教练,Coca Dona 250的男子冠军,还保持着赛会纪录。

I love how Killian Korth talks about it, who's one of my best friends, EVERYDAYULTRA Coach, male champion of Coca Dona two fifty and male course record holder.

Speaker 0

他总说,我几乎是冲刺过终点的,因为我只想把所有力气都耗尽。

But he always says, he's like, yeah, I barely sprinted into the finish because I just want to leave it all out on the table.

Speaker 0

听他这么说,我就受到启发,觉得这次也许我根本不需要冲刺到终点。

And hearing him say that got me inspired to be like, yeah, this is one of those where maybe I don't want to sprint to the finish.

Speaker 0

我只想几乎是踉跄着冲过去——不是我故意这样,而是我真的连最后一丝力气都没了。

I just want almost hobble it in, not because I'm choosing to, but because I just don't have anything left to push.

Speaker 0

所以,这就是我的第二个目标。

So that was the second goal.

Speaker 0

第三个目标是个时间目标。

And then the third goal was more of a time goal.

Speaker 0

我的目标是跑进十八小时以内,因为我算过了,仔细推算过,觉得如果状态特别好,跑进十八小时就是我的目标。

And my time goal was I wanted to go sub-eighteen hours because I'd done the math, I'd done the calculations, and I said like, hey, if I'm having a great day, sub-eighteen hours, that's going to be the goal.

Speaker 0

但这里有个前提:我至少得跑满十八小时。

But I had this asterisk here was that I want to go eighteen hours.

Speaker 0

只有在完成前两个目标的前提下,跑满十八小时才算有意义。

Like the only way that that eighteen hours is going to be fulfilling is if I do one and two.

Speaker 0

第一,要平衡坚持和感恩。

If I balance the grind and the gratitude, number one.

Speaker 0

第二,要拼尽全力。

And number two, I give it my absolute all.

Speaker 0

所以我一直告诉自己,如果为了跑进十八小时而牺牲了前两点,那我宁可慢一点——因为万一我没能做到前两点,心里会知道,自己其实还能再拼一把,或者当时本可以更感恩、更专注。毕竟,这种比赛以后可能再也跑不到了,竞争越来越激烈,机会越来越少。

And so I always told myself, was like, I'd rather have maybe a little bit of a slower time if I did one and two than maybe getting sub-eighteen and knowing that I could have kept pushing or knowing that I could have been a little bit more grateful and present along the moment because there is a realistic chance that I might never do this race again, just given the odds and how popular it's getting and everything as such, too.

Speaker 0

这三点就是我最重要的目标。

And so those are my three biggest intentions.

Speaker 0

所以前一天晚上,我好好想了一遍这些事。

And so the night before, I reflected on that.

Speaker 0

在比赛氛围里领号码布的时候,那种感觉特别不真实,我一直把那几点记在心里。

Being in the energy of the race, picking up my bib, it was just surreal and just like keeping that in the forefront of my mind the entire time.

Speaker 0

在比赛开始前,我想说一个特别的时刻:比赛前一天,我和朋友克里斯·沃登聊天,他是‘山到海’赛事的解说员之一,你肯定听过他很多次的解说。

And the one moment I want to talk about before the race even started this was the day before the race I'm talking with a friend of mine, Chris Warden, who is one of the voices of Mount to Coast, who I'm sure you've heard many, many times through commentary.

Speaker 0

我当时正和他聊着天。

I'm talking with him.

Speaker 0

聊到一半,他突然说:‘嘿,你看,斯科特·杰里克就在那儿。’

And mid conversation, he just goes, dude, look, Scott Jerick's right there.

Speaker 0

我这辈子从来没见过斯科特。

And I've never met Scott in my life.

Speaker 0

我转头往左边一看。

And I turn to my left.

Speaker 0

你猜谁在那儿?

And who is there?

Speaker 0

斯科特·杰里克,就是写《吃与跑》的那位,正是他让我走上了通往西部山区赛的道路。

Scott Jerick, the guy who wrote that book, Ian Run, the guy who had basically put me on this path to go towards Western States.

Speaker 0

斯科特朝我走过来。

And Scott walks up to me.

Speaker 0

我看着他,脱口而出:斯科特。

I look at him and I just go, Scott.

Speaker 0

我跟他握了手,说:老兄,你根本不知道此刻见到你对我有多重要。

I shake his hand and I go, dude, you have no idea how much it means to meet you right now.

Speaker 0

我知道这种话你可能听多了,但我现在站在这儿,明天就要起跑,全是因为你。

I know you probably get this a lot, but like I'm standing here right now about to line up tomorrow because of you.

Speaker 0

因为我读了《吃与跑》,你当时在西部山区赛上展现出的可能性,深深打动了我。

Because I read Eat and Run and you really saw what you were capable of at Western States.

Speaker 0

我看完就想着:我也要这么做。

And I read that and I was like, I want to do that too.

Speaker 0

他听了说:哇,这真是太棒了,老兄。

And he was like, wow, like that, that is awesome, man.

Speaker 0

你加入这个圈子多久了?

Like, how long you've been getting in?

Speaker 0

他问了我一大堆关于生活和计划的事,全都聊得特别细。

Like, was asking all these questions about my life and my plan and everything is such too.

Speaker 0

他特别接地气,对我生活的每件事都特别感兴趣。

And he was just such so down to earth and so interested in everything that was about my life.

Speaker 0

那真的太棒了。

And that was just so cool.

Speaker 0

他说,嗯,那我在98英里补给站等你。

And he's like, yeah, well I'll see you at the Mile 98 station.

Speaker 0

我们会帮你快速进出补给站。

We'll get you, we'll get you in and out.

Speaker 0

你一定能拿到那个奖牌,兄弟。

And, you're gonna go get that buckle, man.

Speaker 0

我们还合了张影,那一刻真的奠定了整个基调。

And, we took a picture together and I mean, that just set the tone.

Speaker 0

我当时就想,这简直太棒了。

I was like, this is going to be freaking amazing.

Speaker 0

咱们就这么干吧。

Let's freaking do this.

Speaker 0

我睡觉前心里满是感激,特别兴奋。

And so I went to sleep just so, so grateful, so excited.

Speaker 0

当然有点紧张。

Definitely nervous.

Speaker 0

不过我主要紧张是因为这事挺搞笑的。

I was mostly nervous, though, just because it was funny.

Speaker 0

我把所有参赛衣服都带过来了,顺便说一句,我现在在亚利桑那州的菲尼克斯。

I brought all my clothes that I brought over to the race, which by the way, you don't know, I'm in Phoenix, Arizona.

Speaker 0

我们飞过来是因为我不想开车,麻烦事太多。

And we flew over to this because I just didn't want to deal with driving and everything and such too.

Speaker 0

所以 flight 大约一个半小时。

So it was like an hour and a half flight.

Speaker 0

但我只带了T恤和短裤。

But all I brought was t shirt and shorts.

Speaker 0

我还带了一件羽绒服,知道晚上肯定得穿,不跑步的时候会冷,毕竟我们之前住在太浩湖。

And then I brought a puffy that I knew I was probably going to wear at the nighttime and stuff because I was going get cold not running, but after because we were staying in Tahoe before.

Speaker 0

但我心里想,这比赛肯定暖和,用不着带厚衣服。

But in my mind, I'm like, this race is going to be warm, so I'm not going to need warm clothes.

Speaker 0

结果呢,到了选手报到的地方。

And lo and behold, we're at the runner check-in.

Speaker 0

他们正在发参赛指南,做各种说明。

And they're doing the runner guide and everything.

Speaker 0

然后他们说,早上气温大概在4摄氏度左右。

And they go, yeah, in the morning, it's going to be around 40 degrees.

Speaker 0

到了悬崖顶部,气温会降到零下1摄氏度,风速还有每小时50公里。

And at the top of the escarpment, it's going to be about 30 degrees with 30 miles an hour winds.

Speaker 0

我当时就傻了,天哪,这下糟了。

And I'm like, oh, my goodness gracious.

Speaker 0

我要冻僵了。

I'm going to freeze.

Speaker 0

所以我只好去买了件运动衫之类的装备。

So I had to go buy a sweatshirt and all this stuff.

Speaker 0

我确实很担心寒冷,因为我本来就怕冷。

And I was definitely nervous about the cold because I don't do well in the cold.

Speaker 0

这也不是我最喜欢的天气。

It is not my favorite either.

Speaker 0

我其实不太喜欢在冷天跑步。

I don't really like to run-in the cold.

Speaker 0

我还是更喜欢暖和点的天气。

I like the hot stuff.

Speaker 0

不过最后还好。

But it was fine.

Speaker 0

尽管如此,我还是挺兴奋的。

Nonetheless, I was excited.

Speaker 0

我当时就说,嘿,你听我说。

I was like, hey, listen.

Speaker 0

我宁愿在寒冷的天气里跑完这场比赛,也不愿干脆不跑。

I'd rather run this race in cold conditions than to not run it at all.

Speaker 0

不过呢,那事儿也挺有意思的。

But yeah, that was a funny little thing, too.

Speaker 0

但不管怎样,我睡了一觉。

But anyways, got some sleep.

Speaker 0

我其实睡得特别好,我觉得这充分说明了我应对压力的能力提升了——以前赛前我根本睡不着,总是焦虑得不行,满脑子都是当天会有什么状况。

I actually slept really well, which I think speaks a lot to how I've managed pressure because I used to never be able to sleep before races because I would have so much anxiety and really struggle with just getting caught up on what the day was going to bring.

Speaker 0

我在赛前的播客里也提到过这事,这里就简单带一句,因为我觉得特别重要。

And I talked about this on the pre race podcast, and I'll just mention here really briefly because I think it's very important.

Speaker 0

我渐渐明白,不管比赛当天发生什么,总会有好事从中发生。

I do think it's helped me a lot with sleeping well before races is that I've learned that no matter what happens on race day, there will always be a good thing that comes from it.

Speaker 0

我经常讲起那次跑亚利桑那怪物赛的经历。

And I tell the story all the time where raced Arizona Monster.

Speaker 0

我特别想赢下这场比赛。

I wanted to win it.

Speaker 0

我在社交媒体上发帖,也在播客里聊过这件事。

I was posting it on social media, talking about it on the podcast.

Speaker 0

结果在200英里处因为膝盖受伤,没能完赛。

And then I ended up DNF ing the race due to a knee injury at mile 200.

Speaker 0

虽然这让我身心都备受煎熬,但我明白,受伤的原因是我平时力量训练不够。

And although that was so painful for me mentally and obviously physically, too, I learned that the reason why I got the injury was because I wasn't strength training enough.

Speaker 0

于是我增加了力量训练,后来在塔霍200英里赛中跑出了职业生涯最好的成绩。

So I added more strength training into my routine and then ended up having the best 200 mile performance of my life at Tahoe two hundred.

Speaker 0

如果没有在亚利桑那怪物赛上的这次失败,这一切都不会发生。

And that wouldn't have happened if I didn't have that failure at Arizona Monster.

Speaker 0

所以我明白了,不管比赛结果如何,总会有一件好事从中诞生,哪怕结果不是你想要的,甚至完全相反。

And so what I learned was no matter what in a race, there's going to be something good that comes from it, even if it's not the result that you wanted, even if it's the exact opposite of the result.

Speaker 0

我觉得正因如此,我压力小了很多,因为我知道,不管当天发生什么,总会有积极的一面。

And I think that has allowed me to have less pressure because I always know that no matter what happens on the day, something good will come out of it.

Speaker 0

我不是说失败不痛苦。

And I'm not saying failure is any less painful.

Speaker 0

我不是说没达到的目标就不让人心痛。

I'm not saying a result that you didn't get is any less painful.

Speaker 0

但我以前总是执着于一定要完美发挥,尤其是投入了那么多时间、精力、金钱和牺牲之后。

But I used to get so caught up on just like wanting the perfect day all the time, especially after all the time, effort, energy, money, sacrifices that you put into a training block.

Speaker 0

你当然希望一切顺利。

Like you want it to be good.

Speaker 0

你希望所有的付出都有回报。

You want all of it to count for something.

Speaker 0

但每一份付出都会有回报。

But it will always count for something.

Speaker 0

你总会从中得到一些有价值的东西,哪怕不是你想要的结果——可能是帮你最终达成目标的教训,可能是能带入生活的领悟,也可能是最终实现了那个目标。总之,好事总会发生。

You will get something good out of it, even if it's not the result that you want to, whether it's the lesson that will help you eventually get the goal, whether it's an insight that you can take into life, or whether it is getting that goal that you wanted, something good will come of it.

Speaker 0

正因明白这一点,我赛前才能睡得香,压力也小多了。

And just knowing that has allowed me to sleep like a baby before the race and have less pressure.

Speaker 0

总之,比赛早上五点开始。

So anyways, race starts at 5AM.

Speaker 0

我三点左右就醒了,起得挺早的。

I wake up at about 3AM, early start.

Speaker 0

我七点就睡了。

Went to bed at like 7PM.

Speaker 0

睡了大概七八个小时,感觉还不错。

So I got like a good I think it was at seven, eight hours of sleep, something like that.

Speaker 0

但那天早上特别棒。

But the morning was awesome.

Speaker 0

我们上了车。

We hopped in the car.

Speaker 0

外面还黑着,放上点燃爆的音乐,整个人就慢慢沉浸在这种感恩的情绪里。

It was dark, put on some hype music and, just really just started to just soak in the gratitude.

Speaker 0

比赛前我心里想的就是:能参加这场比赛,我真的特别感恩。

Like my whole mindset going into the race was like, I'm so grateful to be doing this.

Speaker 0

我真的很感激能来到这里。

I'm so grateful to be here.

Speaker 0

我真的很感激自己能健康地站在起跑线上。

I'm so grateful to be showing up to the start line healthy.

Speaker 0

但最重要的是,我感激自己一路坚持,迈出每一步,熬过低谷,才走到今天。

But most importantly, I'm so grateful for myself for taking the actions, taking the steps, pushing through the low points to get to this point.

Speaker 0

对你来说,每次参加比赛,尤其是那种筹备了很久的赛事,你也得这样对自己说:你能站上起跑线,是因为你一次次做出决定,坚持训练,做好准备,不断学习,才最终来到这里。

And for you, anytime you get to a race, especially one that you've been building for for a long time, like you got to do the same for yourself because if you show up to that race, that is due to a series of decisions that you made to train for that thing, to be prepared for that thing, to work towards that thing, to learn new things, to be on that start line.

Speaker 0

当然,要感激这场比赛。

So of course be grateful for the race.

Speaker 0

当然,要感激这个机会,但也要感激你自己。

Of course be grateful for the opportunity, but also be grateful for yourself.

Speaker 0

我觉得我们平时太不给自己足够的肯定了,对吧?

And I don't think we give ourselves enough credit for showing up and doing the work, right?

Speaker 0

因为作为越野跑者,我们总是想要更多。

Because as ultramarathon athletes, we always want more.

Speaker 0

我们总想变得更好。

We always want to be better.

Speaker 0

我们总想达到更高的境界。

We always want to be greater.

Speaker 0

这很好。

And that is great.

Speaker 0

这太棒了。

And that is amazing.

Speaker 0

这真的很了不起。

And that is awesome.

Speaker 0

但有时候,因为我们总在追求更多,反而容易忽略甚至低估了自己为走到今天所付出的努力。

But sometimes for us always seeking more, we tend to forget and tend to under highlight the work that we've done to get to where we are now.

Speaker 0

所以在参加比赛之前,好好感受一下这份成就吧。

And so before you get to a race, like really soak that in.

Speaker 0

即使现在没有比赛,也趁现在好好想想,你为了走到今天,到底付出了多少努力。

Even right now, even if you don't have a race, soak that in right now and think about all the work that you did to get to where you are right now.

Speaker 0

你要明白,正因为你自己已经付出了努力,才走到今天这一步,所以你完全有本事达到未来的目标——你早就证明了自己能扛得住这份付出。

And know that because you've done the work to get to where you are right now, you can get to where you want to be in the future because you're in a position where you've already proven that you can do the work.

Speaker 0

我一直在播客里说过无数次,只要你愿意学、肯下功夫,就没有什么是你做不到的。

And I always say you've heard me say this a million times in the podcast if you've been listening to me is that as long as you're willing to learn and put in the work, you can do whatever you want.

Speaker 0

你完全可以成为你想成为的任何人。

You can become whoever you want to become.

Speaker 0

你能够实现任何你想要的梦想。

You can achieve any dream that you want to achieve.

Speaker 0

没有人能不学习、不努力就取得任何成就。

And no person gets anywhere without learning or putting in the work.

Speaker 0

所以,请好好感谢自己,感谢你为这一切付出的所有努力。

So give yourself the damn gratitude for yourself and all the effort that you put in.

Speaker 0

这就是我走向起跑线时的心态。

And so that was my mindset just going on to the start line.

Speaker 0

走向起跑线的时候,那种感觉特别不真实,因为我眼前这座拱门,我曾在无数视频里看过它。

So walking over to the start line was a surreal experience because I was looking at the arch that I've seen so many times in the videos.

Speaker 0

我看着眼前这一幕,以前在直播里看了太多次了。

Was looking at the scene that I've seen so many times in the livestream when I've spectated the race.

Speaker 0

起跑线上的气氛简直太疯狂了。

It was crazy on the start line.

Speaker 0

我看到了吉姆·瓦尔西。

Saw Jim Wamsi.

Speaker 0

我看到了基利安·霍尔内。

I saw Killian Jornet.

Speaker 0

我看到了我的好朋友亚当·彼得曼和杰夫·麦戈文。

I saw my good friend Adam Peterman, Jeff McGovern.

Speaker 0

我看到了珍·利希特。

I saw Jen Lichter.

Speaker 0

我看到了阿比·霍尔,她是上一届的女子冠军。

I saw Abby Hall, who's a woman's champion from the prior year.

Speaker 0

我看到了现场这么多传奇人物。

I saw just all of these legends out there.

Speaker 0

我当时就想,天啊,我居然真的和这些传奇人物一起站在起跑线上了。

And I was like, wow, I cannot believe I'm toeing the line with all these people.

Speaker 0

最让我激动的时刻之一,就是转头看向右边,看到了我的好朋友萨拉·奥苏兹基——萨拉是我多年的好友。

And one of the coolest moments was turning to my right and seeing my good friend Sarah Ossuzuki, Sarah is a great friend of mine, a friend for years.

Speaker 0

更厉害的是,顺便说一句,萨拉是个极其出色的运动员。

But what's awesome is she and by the way, Sarah is an incredible athlete.

Speaker 0

她曾经是椰子250和乌雷100的赛道纪录保持者,两次获得椰子冠军,一次获得残酷宝石冠军,跑过100英里耐力赛。

She former course record holder at Coconut two fifty, U Ray 100, two time champion, Coconut champion, Cruel Jewel champion, 100 miler.

Speaker 0

她不仅是个了不起的运动员,更是个了不起的人。

Just an incredible athlete and incredible human being.

Speaker 0

我们认识很久了,今年一起报上了名。

And we've been friends for a while, we both got in this year.

Speaker 0

特别让人感动的是,萨拉为了这次比赛,已经等了八到十年,简直难以置信。

And what's super cool about Sarah is she's been waiting for I think like eight to ten years, like something crazy like that.

Speaker 0

她之前拿到了256张入场券。

She had two fifty six tickets.

Speaker 0

她等的时间比我长得多,差不多是我的两倍以上。

And so she had been waiting for way longer, more than double the amount of time that I've been waiting.

Speaker 0

看到她那么兴奋、那么开心,真的特别棒。

And just seeing her there super stoked and super excited was just so awesome.

Speaker 0

能亲眼见证她实现这个经历,意义可能更大,毕竟她等了那么久。

And seeing her get to have that experience as well, too, which probably was even more meaningful for her just given the amount of time that she was waiting.

Speaker 0

就连她自己也说,这场赛事才是真正让她投身越野跑、追逐这个梦想的转折点。

And even for her, she even describes how this race was also the thing that really got her dedicated into ultrarunning and wanting to chase this dream.

Speaker 0

能和一个不仅有同样梦想、还和我一起走过这段历程的人并肩出发,真的很棒——我们可是一起在西部州立赛道参加过训练营的。

It was so cool to just be with someone who not only had that same dream, but someone who had been through the process with me because we did the training camp together at Western States that they did on the course.

Speaker 0

整个备赛期间,我们一直发消息互相鼓励。

We were texting each other throughout the whole block and everything.

Speaker 0

能一起站在起跑线上,那种感觉真的很特别。

And it was just cool to be on that start line together.

Speaker 0

在拱门下面有个倒计时,正在数着起跑前的最后时刻。

And they had a countdown right under the arch that was counting it down the time until the start was happening.

Speaker 0

我记得看着倒计时的十秒,闭上眼睛,深吸一口气,想象自己正捧着那本书,置身于那段戒酒、疗愈心灵、重建生活的旅程里,重新连起每一个关键的时刻,只想牢牢抓住此刻站在这里的感觉。

And I remember looking at the ten seconds and I remember closing my eyes, taking a deep breath and envisioning myself reading the book and being in this place where I was in this process of getting sober and fixing my mind and my life and everything and reconnecting the dots of connecting to that moment, wanting to be where I'm standing currently.

Speaker 0

然后我睁开眼,对自己说:我们做到了,宝贝。

And then I opened my eyes and I said to myself, we made it, baby.

Speaker 0

倒数到五、四、三、二、一。

And it was 54, 321.

Speaker 0

枪声一响,西部一百英里耐力赛正式开始了。

The shotgun went off, and the Western States one hundred was underway.

Speaker 0

如果你还记得我之前在节目里说过,那个断崖爬升段差不多三英里,海拔上升三千英尺左右。

And so if you remember me talking earlier in the episode about the the escarpment climb is a little over three miles, about 3,000 feet of climbing.

Speaker 0

简直就是直上直下地往上冲。

And it just straight just shoots you up.

Speaker 0

一开始是条双车道的土路,有些路段坡度还挺陡的。

So you're on this like double track, kind of like dirt road for a little bit that gets a little steep at some parts.

Speaker 0

但我一开跑就直接冲了上去。

But I just went out running.

Speaker 0

而且对我来说,最重要的一点是——如果你一直听播客,大概也了解我平时参赛的方式,我以前总是冲着赢或者拿某个名次去跑。

And the biggest thing that also in my mind so if you've been listening to podcasts for a while and kind of know how I've raced some races, I went out to win or I go out to get a certain placement.

Speaker 0

但这次比赛,我对自己说,我只跟自己比。

I told myself on this race, it is literally only me against me.

Speaker 0

我唯一要超越的,就是我自己的最佳成绩,仅此而已。

And all I'm running against is the time, my very best, and that's it.

Speaker 0

当然,比赛一开始,所有人都冲出去了,尤其是那些职业选手。

And of course, in the beginning of this thing, everybody goes out, right, especially all the pros.

Speaker 0

他们一个个都冲得特别快。

They all go out way ahead.

Speaker 0

很多其他人也冲在了前面。

A lot of other people go out way ahead.

Speaker 0

我给自己定了个计划,针对这段断崖爬升:因为它坡度陡,海拔高,又是比赛开始后三英里的地方,而且还是整个赛事中最受瞩目的路段之一——我待会儿会说,不只是因为它在起点,山顶那段简直让人窒息。

And I told myself the game plan for this escarpment climb because it is steep, because it is at high altitude, because it is three miles into the race, and also because it is also one of the most hyped parts of the race, which I'll talk about, not just because it's at the start, but the tippy top of the escarpment is insane.

Speaker 0

我对自己说,要稳住节奏。

I told myself, be controlled.

Speaker 0

如果你觉得自己有点失控或者冲得太快了,那就走一段,这完全没问题。

If you feel like you're getting a little bit out of control or a little bit ahead of yourself, you're going to hike, and that's Okay.

Speaker 0

我那时候也是这么打算的。

And that was the plan that I had on there, too.

Speaker 0

我看到好多人一下子就冲到我前面去了。

I saw so many people just start Zooming in front of me.

Speaker 0

你知道吗,我就想,

And I was like, you know what?

Speaker 0

我只按自己的节奏来。

I'm just going to take it just on my own intensity.

Speaker 0

另外,有个特别重要的建议,尤其在百英里比赛刚开始的时候,你设定的配速感觉上可能比实际要轻松,千万别被这种错觉骗了。

And by the way, really good thing to always just keep in mind from a tip perspective in the beginning of a race, especially for 100 miles, is whenever you're going out at the intensity that you set to go out at, you always want to keep in mind that whatever you're feeling is likely understated to what your actual intensity is.

Speaker 0

所以我一向更看重自己的努力程度。

So I always like to go by effort level.

Speaker 0

举个例子,我打算比赛一开始把体力消耗控制在十级里的三级左右。

Here's an example of this, is I want to race the beginning of this at like a three rate of perceived exertion level out of 10.

Speaker 0

所以,百分之三的用力程度,其实特别轻松。

So three out of 10 effort level, which is really easy.

Speaker 0

如果比赛刚开始我觉得自己只用了三成力,我总会提醒自己,这其实可能已经到四成了。

If I feel like I'm going at a three in the beginning of the race, I always tell myself this is likely actually a four.

Speaker 0

你也是这样吧?

And so same to you, right?

Speaker 0

这就是为什么比赛刚开始的时候,你可能也有过这种经历:跑起来感觉挺轻松,状态也不错,但速度不知不觉就上去了,结果后半程直接崩了。

Like this is why a lot of the times in the beginning of races where and you may have had this experience you run and then you're like, it felt easy, it felt good, but my pace did seem a little bit faster and I ended up blowing up later in the race.

Speaker 0

这是因为身体里涌动着大量肾上腺素,加上兴奋,甚至还有点紧张。

It's because we have all this adrenaline pumping through our body, all this excitement, maybe even some nerves.

Speaker 0

而肾上腺素一多,就会让你感觉不到身体实际承受的强度。

And what that does is because we have so much adrenaline in our system, it masks the intensity that our body is actually going through.

Speaker 0

所以我总说,别使全力,稍微压一压。

And so I always say, take it one notch down.

Speaker 0

这其实源于我第一位教练扎克·比特教给我的一个重要经验,他是我们这个时代最伟大的越野跑选手之一。

This goes back to a very important lesson that I learned from my very first coach, Zach Bitter, who's one of the greatest ultramarathon athletes of our time.

Speaker 0

我问他这个问题的时候,他告诉我,我该有什么样的感觉?

And he told me when I asked him the question, what should I be feeling?

Speaker 0

跑一百英里的时候,我该保持什么样的强度?

What intensity level should I be going at when I'm racing 100 mile race?

Speaker 0

他说,如果你觉得你跑得慢了,那就再慢一点。

He said, if you think you're going slow, go slower.

Speaker 0

我刚听到这话的时候,还以为他只是随口开个玩笑,意思是让你比想象中再放松点。

And when I first heard that, I thought it was just like a funny joke just to say like, take it easier than you think.

Speaker 0

但随着我越来越了解心理学,明白肾上腺素如何影响你对强度的感知,我才意识到,这话其实非常实用——只要你觉得太吃力,就真的该再降一档。

But it really is true of the more that I learned about the psychology and how your brain registers these things when you're feeling adrenaline, the more I realized that it's actually a practical message to take it one notch down if you feel like you're going too hard.

Speaker 0

所以一开始,我就觉得自己已经跑得很轻松了,但还是刻意再压低了一点节奏,真的做到了。

So, right off the bat, like I felt like I was at a pretty comfortable pace, but I wanted to put it one notch back and I totally did.

Speaker 0

然后我就根据感觉来,能跑的地方就跑,该走的地方就走,始终盯着这个强度不放。

And, I started to run the sections I felt like I could run, hike the sections that I could hike, and just keeping that intensity in mind.

Speaker 0

但我记得,整个过程中,我脸上一直挂着最大的笑容。

But I just remember just having the biggest smile on my face like the entire time.

Speaker 0

特别棒的是,我往上走的时候,居然碰上了莎拉。

And it was super cool because as I'm going up, I actually linked up with Sarah.

Speaker 0

我和莎拉一起沿着断崖往上走。

And Sarah and I, we were going up the escarpment together.

Speaker 0

我记得我们俩一路上不停地感叹:天哪,我们真的到了。

And I remember her and I were just going back and forth being like, oh my gosh, we're here.

Speaker 0

我们成功了。

We made it.

Speaker 0

我们激动得不得了。

We were so excited.

Speaker 0

更棒的是,杰夫·布朗宁也在那儿,和我们在一起。

And it was awesome because Jeff Browning was also he was also there with us.

Speaker 0

杰夫是莎拉的教练,这真是太巧了。

And Jeff is Sarah's coach, which is super cool.

Speaker 0

杰夫也是我的朋友。

And Jeff's a friend of mine.

Speaker 0

于是我们开始聊天,尽情感受这一切。

And so we started to talk and we were just taking it all in.

Speaker 0

我看到萨莉·麦克雷在路边为我们加油,她是我很好的朋友。

I got to see Sally McRae cheering us on like down the line, who was a good friend of mine.

Speaker 0

她真的特别棒。

And she's just so amazing.

Speaker 0

她一直在为我们加油打气。

So she was cheering us on.

Speaker 0

我还看到了蕾切尔·恩特雷金、凯蒂·谢德,还有好多人都在沿途为我们加油。

Saw people like Rachel Entrekin, Katie Scheid, like so many people cheering us up along the way.

Speaker 0

我发誓,我根本停不下笑容。

And I swear, I just I could not stop smiling.

Speaker 0

太令人难忘了。

It was amazing.

Speaker 0

我完全沉浸在这份喜悦里。

I was soaking it in.

Speaker 0

根本感觉不到是在比赛,就像置身于一个我一直梦想的巅峰时刻。

It didn't even feel like I was in a race because it just felt like I was in this peak experience of this dream that I wanted to do.

Speaker 0

真的像在实现一个梦,因为我正在亲历这个梦。

It literally felt like I was living a dream because I was living a dream.

Speaker 0

我早就梦见过这一刻。

I dreamed of this moment.

Speaker 0

一出发,我就已经身在其中了。

And I was already in it right off the bat.

Speaker 0

简直太棒了。

And it was just fricking incredible.

Speaker 0

往上走的时候,我和莎拉偶尔聊几句,但大多数人只是专注当下,静静感受这一切。

And so as we're going up, Sarah and I were kind of talking here and there, but most of us were just being present and just soaking it all in.

Speaker 0

往上爬的时候,我发现自己已经开始有点热了。

And as I'm going up, I noticed myself already getting a little bit warm.

Speaker 0

我还穿着那件我买来的运动衫。

And I was wearing that sweatshirt that I bought, too.

Speaker 0

我当时就想,我怎么这么快就热起来了?

And I was like, how am I getting warm already?

Speaker 0

外面可冷着呢。

It's pretty cold outside.

Speaker 0

我早年跑超马时就学到一条原则,一直记着:要是出了问题,而且能马上解决,就赶紧处理,别等它闹大了。

And there is one rule that I learned early on in my ultramarathon career that I always take into account is that if there is a problem and if it is something you can fix ASAP, fix it right away before it gets something that's out of hand.

Speaker 0

我当时就在想,因为汗都从运动衫底下冒出来了。

And I was thinking about it because I was getting sweaty underneath my sweatshirt.

Speaker 0

我知道我们还得往更高处走。

And I knew we were only going to go up higher.

Speaker 0

我不想爬到高处时浑身湿透,再遇上大风,冷得更厉害。

And so I didn't want to be soaking wet going up high if the winds were really high to get even colder.

Speaker 0

所以我决定,行,得把出汗这事儿停了。

So I said, all right, I'm going to stop the sweating.

Speaker 0

现在就停下,把运动衫脱了,继续走。

I'm going to stop now, take the sweatshirt off, go.

Speaker 0

听起来是不是有点疯狂?

Whereas it seems kind of crazy, right?

Speaker 0

比赛刚开始,你就停下来了,是不是?

Early into a race, like, oh my gosh, you're stopping right away.

Speaker 0

但我决定,这个问题得马上解决。

But I said, nope, we're going to take care of this problem as is.

Speaker 0

于是,我一路把上衣从侧面拉下来,直接脱掉了。

And so about halfway up this garment, I pulled down the side, took off the sweatshirt.

Speaker 0

还挺搞笑的。

It was funny.

Speaker 0

路上有人问我,你还好吗?

People were asking, are you Okay?

Speaker 0

你还好吗?

Are Okay?

Speaker 0

我就说,没事,就是太热了。

Was like, yeah, I'm just hot.

Speaker 0

我热得不行了。

I'm just burning up.

Speaker 0

所以也没事儿。

And so it was fine.

Speaker 0

塞进背包里,接着继续跑啊跑。

Put it in my pack and just kept on rolling and rolling.

Speaker 0

往上跑的时候,旁边有人从我身边经过。

And as we're going up, there's people running aside me.

Speaker 0

我就开始给旁边的人加油打气,喊着:我们到西部州际了,兄弟!

And I just like start hyping up people being like, we're at Western States, baby.

Speaker 0

我们真的到了。

We're here.

Speaker 0

我们做到了。

Like we did it.

Speaker 0

这简直太棒了。

Like this is so incredible.

Speaker 0

其他人也都特别兴奋,激动得不得了。

And everybody else was so hyped and so stoked.

Speaker 0

那种氛围简直像电流一样。

It was the energy was just electric.

Speaker 0

我们往上走的时候,太阳刚从身后山巅冒出来,天空泛着橙红色的光。

And as we're going up, the sun is just peeking over the mountains behind us and you can just see the orange in the sky.

Speaker 0

眼前是连绵不绝的壮丽阿尔卑斯山区,景色太震撼了。

And it's just this incredible sprawling view of this amazing Alpine, like just mountain area.

Speaker 0

越往上走,我越回头望,奥林匹克谷的全景尽收眼底。

It's the higher we're going, like I keep looking back and just seeing panoramic views of Olympic Valley.

Speaker 0

我当时就想,这景色真是美得让人屏住呼吸。

And I was like, this is just breathtaking.

Speaker 0

最酷的是,在陡坡最后一段之前,有一段特别陡的路,我真说不准坡度有多高,但肯定有三十多度。

What's super cool is like right before the final pitch of the escarpment, there's this incredibly steep, man, I don't even know what the grade was, but it had to have been like in the thirties.

Speaker 0

这段路简直陡得吓人,除非你像基利安·多尔内那样的怪物,不然就得老老实实徒步往上爬。

Really steep pitch up where it's like you're definitely hiking this thing unless you're like an absolute like Killian Dornet kind of figure.

Speaker 0

对吧?

Right?

Speaker 0

但最后我们还是开始往上爬了。

But ultimately, we started hiking up that thing.

Speaker 0

我远远听见山顶上的人在欢呼,这在西部州的赛事里是个特别经典的时刻——每当有人冲到断崖顶端,观众们都会提前赶到山顶,拼命为你加油。

And I remember hearing in the distance all the people at the top of the escarpment cheering, which is like a very historic moment in Western states, very classic moments where when you get to the end of the escarpment, people, spectators, they go all the way up to the top and they start cheering you on like crazy.

Speaker 0

那场面真是震撼。

And it's a wild sight.

Speaker 0

我以前当过观众,真的太棒了,太疯狂了。

I've been up there as a spectator and it's just so awesome, so crazy.

Speaker 0

如果你有机会去看西部州越野赛,只要时间允许,一定别错过,真的太精彩了。

If you ever get the chance to spectate Western States, like you've got to do that if you have the time because it's incredible.

Speaker 0

但我当时在远处听到了那片欢呼声。

But I heard that in the distance.

我记得转头对莎拉说:天啊,我们马上就要到山顶了。

And I remember turning towards Sarah and I was like, holy crap, like we're going to be up there real soon.

Speaker 0

我记得往上爬的时候还跟自己说,交给我吧。

And I remember hiking up and leave it to me.

Speaker 0

我们爬到了陡坡的中间,但还没到最顶上。

We get to the top of the steep pitch, not the top top.

Speaker 0

我一站起来,直接脸朝下摔了下去。

And I like fall directly down right on my face as I'm getting up.

Speaker 0

大概是踩到一块松动的焦土,一下就塌了,我整个人摔了出去,周围人都惊呼:天哪,你没事吧?

I think I just like hit a burn that just gave out underneath me and I hit it and everyone's like, my gosh, are you okay?

Speaker 0

大家都赶紧过来帮我。

Like everyone's helped me out.

Speaker 0

我说,我没事。

I'm like, I'm fine.

Speaker 0

我挺好的。

I'm okay.

Speaker 0

完全没问题。

I'm all good.

Speaker 0

我真的一点都不在意。

Like, I didn't even care.

Speaker 0

我就是特别兴奋能爬到那儿。

I was just like so excited to get up there.

Speaker 0

当我越来越靠近那群人时,我心里突然冒出一个念头。

And as I'm getting closer and closer to this crowd, something in my mind compelled me.

Speaker 0

你知道吗?

I was like, you know what?

Speaker 0

我这时候真想听点音乐。

I kind of want to listen to music in this moment.

Speaker 0

并不是因为我想要逃避,或者沉浸其中什么的。

And not because I wanted to be taken away or locked in or everything.

Speaker 0

我特别喜欢音乐,真心觉得音乐能让体验更棒。

I'm a big music fan, and I truly believe music enhances experiences.

Speaker 0

就像你看一部好电影,想想你最爱的那部,你肯定喜欢它的配乐,那种氛围音乐。

Because it's almost like when you watch any good movie, if you think about your favorite movie, one of the things you probably love is the music, is the score.

Speaker 0

因为配乐能把那一刻的情绪彻底激发出来。

And it's because the score brings out the emotion of the moment.

Speaker 0

我当时就想,诶,要不这样吧。

And, I was like, you know what?

Speaker 0

我决定放点Bring Me the Horizon的歌,直接开播。

I'm going to, I'm going to put on some, some Bring Me the Horizon and put it on.

Speaker 0

我就随便点了个Bring Me the Horizon的播放列表。

And I just like put on just a random Bring Me the Horizon playlist.

Speaker 0

结果你猜怎么着?居然是个现场演出的播放列表。

And lo and behold, it was an actual live playlist.

Speaker 0

正好是演唱会开场,音乐一点一点堆叠起来,气氛炸了,简直太棒了。

And, it was the beginning of the concert and it was like doing all this buildup and everything and it was crazy and it was awesome.

Speaker 0

就在我越来越靠近那片人海的时候,音乐也刚好同步推进,简直完美契合。

And it's like lining up ever so perfectly as I'm getting closer and closer and closer to all like the tunnel of people.

Speaker 0

在悬崖尽头,真的有一条由人群组成的通道。

Like there's this literal tunnel of people at the end of the escarpment.

Speaker 0

我听的这首歌里,主唱大喊:你准备好迎接人生最棒的夜晚了吗?

And in the track that I'm listening to, the lead singer screams out, are you ready for the best F ing night of your life?

Speaker 0

我当时就回了一句:对,我准备好了。

And I was like, yeah, am.

Speaker 0

因为我知道,这一刻就要来了。

Cause I knew this was going to be it.

Speaker 0

一冲进那堵人墙,音乐瞬间炸开,大家全都伸出手,疯狂地跟我击掌。

And as soon as it was crazy, as soon as I hit that first person on that wall of people coming in, the music dropped, people had their hands out and they were just like giving me high fives like crazy.

Speaker 0

有个人直接冲到我面前喊:上啊,卢波!如果你知道卢波是谁,你就懂了——那就是我的化身。

Someone went up right up to me and they were like, let's go Lupo, which if you know about Lupo, you know, that's the form that I go in.

Speaker 0

卢波的事我待会儿再讲。

I'll talk about Lupo later.

Speaker 0

还有人跟着喊:来吧,乔!

And then, but like people were like, yeah, let's go, Joe.

Speaker 0

来吧,乔!

Let's go, Joe.

Speaker 0

我看到好多熟人在上面,脸都笑得合不拢了。

I saw so many friends up there that I knew and I had just this biggest open mouth smile on my face.

Speaker 0

整段时间眼泪都止不住地流。

I got these tears in my eyes the entire time.

Speaker 0

我沿着山坡一路跑,不停地跟每个人击掌。

And I was running up this hill just like high fiving everyone.

Speaker 0

我激动得都说不出话了,简直不敢相信这一切真的发生了。

Just I could barely even speak or like anything because I was just I was so choked up and so blown away by just how surreal that experience was.

Speaker 0

现在回想起来,那是我这辈子最巅峰的时刻之一。

When I look back on that, that is one of the highest highs I've ever felt in my entire life.

Speaker 0

太疯狂了。

It was crazy.

Speaker 0

你有没有过那种感觉?就是有时候你会做梦,梦见自己站在台上,台下人群疯狂欢呼?

And it felt like literally you know when you I don't know if you've ever I've had these dreams sometimes, right, like where I think we've all had those moments where we see a performer or something and the crowd's going nuts, right?

Speaker 0

我们是不是都曾幻想过,那个站在台上的人,其实是自己?

And we almost imagine like, where that was me.

Speaker 0

那时候的感觉,真的就是那样。

Like in that moment, like that's how it felt like.

Speaker 0

能亲身体验这一切,站在山顶上,简直太棒了。

And it's just so cool to experience that and be at the top.

Speaker 0

我记得自己终于冲到山顶的时候。

And I remember getting to the top.

Speaker 0

我的朋友摩根·曼恩,他之前跑过西部百英里赛,应该是去年或者前年吧,反正刚跑完不久。

And a friend of mine, Morgan Mann, he had done Western States, I believe it was either last year or a couple of years ago, but he had done it recently last year, I think.

Speaker 0

比赛前他给我发消息,说别忘了回头看看那道断崖。

And he sent me a message before the race saying, don't forget to look back at the escarpment.

Speaker 0

我到山顶时回头一看,景色美得让人屏息。

And I remember getting at the top, looking back, and the view was immaculate.

Speaker 0

太阳刚刚升起。

The sun had just risen.

Speaker 0

整个奥林匹克山谷尽收眼底。

You see the whole Olympic Valley.

Speaker 0

你已经高到将近三千米了。

You're up like so high, like 9,000 feet or so.

Speaker 0

我记得当时只是看着那景色,轻轻点了个头,心里想着:来吧,干就完了!然后就顺着这条流畅的单轨小路飞驰而下,左边是白雪覆盖的群山,远处是湖泊,阳光正从山脊边缘悄悄探出来。

And I remember just looking at that, giving a little nod and being like, let's fricking do this and bopped right down onto this beautiful flowy single track that had this incredible panoramic view of the mountains, snow capped mountains on the left, lake in the distance, like sun peeping over the edge.

Speaker 0

到处都是野花。

I mean, wildflowers everywhere.

Speaker 0

你想想,要是你去用AI,输入‘给我画一张世界上最美妙的越野跑路线’。

I mean, when you think about like if you were to go into AI and type, write, like give me a picture of the most perfect trail run-in the world.

Speaker 0

那画面,简直就是我现在看到的这样。

Like that is what this was.

Speaker 0

前后都看不到任何人。

And there was like no one in front of me, no one behind me.

Speaker 0

就我一个人在这儿。

It was like just me out there.

Speaker 0

我当时就想,干脆就随性跑吧。

And I was like, I'm just going to flow.

Speaker 0

于是我开始顺其自然地跑起来。

And so I just started flowing.

Speaker 0

心里满是感激,就这么一路奔跑着。

And I was like, filled with gratitude, just running.

Speaker 0

根本不在乎自己跑得多快或者别的什么。

I didn't even care about like what pace I was at or anything.

Speaker 0

跑得特别轻松,这不用说。

I was running easy, course.

Speaker 0

就像我说的,好好感受这一刻,尽情享受这种感觉。

But like I just said, soak up that moment and just ride that high.

Speaker 0

就把这份劲头一直带到整整一百英里的比赛里去。

And let's just, let's take this energy all a 100 freaking miles into this race.

Speaker 0

这为我人生中最棒的夜晚之一定下了完美的基调,就像奥利弗·赛克斯在那首歌里唱的那样。

And it was the perfect tone setting for one of the best nights of my life as Oliver Sykes said in that, in that track.

Speaker 0

于是我继续跑着,跑着,纯粹地享受着这一切。

And so I'm running, I'm running, just enjoying it.

Speaker 0

特别特别顺滑。

It's really, really smooth.

Speaker 0

有点陡峭的上坡,但突然之间,路面就变得特别崎岖了。

Gets a little bit of a punchy climbs, but then out of nowhere, like it just actually becomes like pretty rocky.

Speaker 0

到处都是小石头,像婴儿脑袋那么大。

Like there's like some baby head rocks.

Speaker 0

虽然还是单行道,但满地都是这种小石头。

It's still some single track, but there's some baby head rocks.

Speaker 0

我跑过去的时候,两个脚踝都不由自主地扭了一下。

And as I'm going through, both of my ankles are actually like rolling a little bit.

Speaker 0

我当时吓了一跳。

And I was like, woah.

Speaker 0

正处在最爽的高潮时,突然就像从一个美梦里被硬生生拽醒了一样。

So right as soon as I have like a great high, it was almost like this abrupt moment where all of a sudden I was like shaken up from like the best dream ever.

Speaker 0

你懂那种感觉吧?正做着特别美的梦,一睁眼却懵了:我这是在哪?

You know like when you have like a great dream and then all of a sudden you wake up and you're like, where the hell am I?

Speaker 0

天哪,刚才那事儿是真的吗?

Oh my gosh, was that real?

Speaker 0

那种感觉就像这样,突然之间我的脚踝就开始乱扭。

Like that's kind of like what it felt like because all of a sudden my ankles were just rolling all over the place.

Speaker 0

我当时就想,这到底是怎么回事?

And I was like, what is going on?

Speaker 0

这也太奇怪了。

Like this is so strange.

Speaker 0

但我还是告诉自己,算了,也许我只是需要更专心一点。

But But I was like, all right, maybe I just need to pay attention more.

Speaker 0

也许我得更专注,全神贯注才行。

Maybe I just need to be more present, lock in.

Speaker 0

于是我关掉了音乐。

So I turned off the music.

Speaker 0

然后我就提醒自己,得保持清醒,好好看路,别分心。

And I was like, I'm just going to stay really present and just make sure that I'm seeing where I'm going.
