It's okay to go through seasons of not knowing provided you have an inquiring mindset, provided that you're asking questions and you are a seeker I suppose and that you want to know things.
So there's a difference between not having a goal or not knowing your intention and just floating
和
and
there's a difference between that and not knowing your goal, not knowing your intention but seeking, questioning, inquiring how come, what for asking the dumb Yeah, being curious.
See, it's the second thing I wrote.
Welcome.
欢迎收听ATA(阿德莱德网球学院)推出的首个《专业之路》播客。
Welcome to the first ever Going Pro podcast by ATA, which stands for Adelaide Tennis Academy.
And I'm your host, Luke.
《Going Pro》
The Going Pro podcast is about motion, about being in motion and action orientated.
So it's about the process towards moving into a better future, instead of just the getting there about being pro.
Anyone who's reached a high level and has gotten pro, they've done a lot of that process and it wasn't really ever about the getting there, it was about the journey along the way.
And that's what we want to paint in this podcast.
We really want to show the journey.
We really want to make sure that this is not just related to tennis.
Can be in all athletic pursuits.
It can be business.
It can be in relationships.
It can be life in general.
I think that's what we're really interested in is we want to tell the stories of interesting people and extract practical tools to help people with their growth and how to move towards lasting change for the better.
Because I know people really wanting to change for the better.
And that's what we're here to do.
We want to see if we can actually all come together and see if we can make long lasting change through practical means.
So this podcast will be centred around themes of mindset, performance, success, winning mentality, internal growth, and just collating people's experiences and showing how can we learn from those experiences.
So our first podcast is with the great man himself, Terry Rogers.
He is the founder and creative creator of marketing studio 4 and a producer and a director and also a TV presenter.
You have a new show coming out in the new year called Building Ideas.
Was operating in the past and now it's back.
You're the host with Jessica Braithwaite.
Is that right?
没错。
That's right.
是的。
Yeah.
没错。
Yep.
完美。
Perfect.
And you've brought many brands to life over the last fifteen years.
You have been a big involvement of Sweat, Kayla It's own brand, shooting all of their content and constant communication with them and the team.

You've been living globally around the world, you fill your time with passions of sport, you even trained with Adelaide Crows and around the squad back in your heyday.
是的。
Yes.
You have a passion for food.
You have a passion for family.
You have two beautiful young girls, husband, two beautiful wife, Rachel.
And no two days are the same with Mr.
Rogers.
You keep it exciting, keep it fresh.
I think that's what we love about you when you're around the Academy.
You always bringing a spark.
You're always in motivating the kids.

And we couldn't think about anyone that we would love to interview first than you because you've been a big part of our journey at ATA, and we love having you there.
And you're a mentor and a great friend to us.
First of all, thank you so much for being here with us.
Absolute pleasure.
Let's unpack that intro.
I don't know, there's so much we can talk about there.
Thanks for having me, delighted to be here.
You said to me last week when we knew we were going to do this podcast, did I want to know what we were going to talk about?
I said to you, no, I don't want to know.
So I heard that intro for the first time about what the intention is for this podcast and how great, how motivating, how motivating.
100%
100%
Exciting to be here.
Thanks for reading out the words that I gave to you to describe me really well.
Thank you.
Yeah, just the old back slap.
对。
Yeah.
Yeah, we love a good back slap.
You need it.
对。
Yeah.
So I guess where I want to start is we've heard a little bit about your journey.
当然。
Sure.
And I think it's important to look back and with time, you can look back and you have hindsight and see what were some pivotal moments.
So I guess, without diving into a full story, I'd love to know a little bit more about some pivotal moments that have shaped you to be the man today, whether they were challenging or really a positive and uplifting.
And what did you really extract from some of those moments?
Is there anything that comes to your head initially here?
That's really interesting because you talk about reflection, right?
And it's not something I'm really good at, which is a strength and also a weakness.
And that's something that we could talk about, I think, till the cows come home, that our strengths and our weaknesses are actually sort of next door neighbors.
If you do the things you're good at and really good at poorly or incorrectly, it's a weakness.
And if you fix those weaknesses just a little bit, they can actually become your strengths.
So one of my strengths and or weaknesses, I'll let you determine and our listeners determine, has been the inability or the lack of willingness to reflect.
But that's because I've always been future orientated, moving forward.
What's the next thing?
What's the next thing?
Age does do a funny thing that you do afford yourself reflection.
So if your question is when I look back, what are some of the takeaways that have helped shape to getting here?
I don't know.
The things that I thought helped me in the moment are maybe not what I think helped me when I look back on them,
if that makes sense.
You know, when I was young, I was enthusiastic, I was earnest in all of my endeavours.
I have always believed that how you do one thing and I've said this to you so many times and I've even said it at the tennis club.
How you do one thing is how you do everything.
It's whether how you keep your bedroom, that's a reflection of how you keep your desk at work.
How you train is how you play.
My PE teacher who's responsible for probably pushing me to be the athlete I was when I was younger said to me, Terry, practice does not make perfect.
Perfect practice makes perfect.
You can turn up to practice and go through the motions.
You will not get better.
You can turn up to work and just do what's required.
You will not get better.
But if you turn up and there's something to be said about turning up, That's a discipline in itself day in and day out, there's something to be said about turning up.
But if you turn up with the mindset to be better, to do better, that's the only way you'll get better.
So I think having that earnest mindset was something that helped me when I was young.
Being a good listener.
哇。
Wow.
And I've got a lot of things to say, right?
So me being a good listener says a lot.
Being a good listener is so important because it's not like that's when you learn, it's when you learn from someone who's talking to you about the things they aren't saying.
When you actually actively listen and you're really good at it, you read body language, you read nuance.
Someone says something to you and if you're really listening, you know what the subtext is.
But if you're just sort of half listening, you don't feel that, you don't see that.
So if you listen well or you're halfway there, you digest.
And then the other one for me I think and this is probably in a previous life when I was an aspiring actor and all that sort of stuff become comfortable become comfortable with being uncomfortable, yes, absolutely.
Become comfortable and embrace rejection and failure.
That's a big one.
Don't tolerate it.
Right?
Don't accept it, but become comfortable with it.
When I was an actor, for the better part of fifteen years of my life, I would have auditions after auditions after auditions in rooms in Adelaide, in Los Angeles, in Sydney, in Melbourne, sitting next to people with the same dreams, the same values, the same aspirations.
You go in, you read something, you would do a good job.
You would audition, you would do a great job.
And they'd say no.
And that's really, really hard to take.
I can accept it's easy to accept someone saying no when you've been crap at something.
是的。
Yeah.
Oh, you didn't make the team because you were no good.
Kinda get that.
Cool.
But when they say no, but you were good, wrap your head around that.
是的。
Yeah.
Imagine doing that 10 times a week for fifteen years.
It builds resilience, right?
And I think that that's something that the younger generation, my children could benefit from.
It's okay to make mistakes.
It's okay to make mistakes and learn from them.
So there you go, there's a couple of answers.
No, you unpacked that really well.
Thank you.
So there's a couple of key things we can extract from that.
How you do one thing is how you do everything.
So I think that's an important takeaway is do everything pro.
You're not going to get it right, you're going to make mistakes, but what is your intention?
Can you keep your room clean?
Can you really take care of how you speak to your mum?
Can you really show up with intention to your practice?
And then when you are at your practice, it's about can we be a better listener?
When you are in a situation when you're listening to someone or someone's trying to teach you something, can you take on board feedback and actually listen to what the coaches or who the mentors are?
Or if you're in a meeting and you're trying to close a deal, are you really observing and listening to what they're saying and how they're responding to the words you're saying?
而且
And
then the third one, which was centered around- Accepting failure.
Yes, accepting failure.
I mean Becoming comfortable with it.
是的。
Yeah.
Becoming comfortable.
You just gotta put yourself out there.
I think that relates to opportunities.
没错。
Right.
Opportunities come and go, but they will not come and go they will not come your way if you're not putting yourself out there.
没错。
Right.
This is just a quick note on our podcast sponsor.
This podcast would not be possible without the support from 4RT.
They are a creative house that helps businesses with their advertising, marketing, and content needs.
If your business has a story to tell, then these guys can really help you with that story.
And through ATA, they've helped us massively, and we trust these guys dearly, and we feel like they're the best in the business, so they could add a lot of value to your marketing advertising needs.
And, you know, I think in let's use the tennis court.
You are You're losing as many points as you are winning in tennis.
It's one of the few sports that you can win more points, more games and lose the match, right?
So, you know, we make mistakes on the court all the time.
We make mistakes in the arena of life all the time.
Just get comfortable with it, right?
And I think it helps to become comfortable with mistakes if you start whatever it is start training, start game day on Saturday, start your work day, start your career if you start with the end in mind.
That's your why.
Yeah, exactly.
What does that mean?
Well, it means goal setting.
Oh my God, goal setting.
I've got my mood board.
It's the truth.
是的。
Yes.
You rock up to squad training on Tuesday night and you don't know why you're there, then you don't know what you want to get out
of it.
It's not going to last.
How can you keep enduring through the challenges, the losses if you don't understand your why?
Because if you do, then you can keep pushing through because today this training sucked and I had a tough match on the weekend and I just went down and it's just not working out.
But I know why I'm doing this.
It's making me stronger.
It's making me better.
So I get back out on the practice corner and start to endure these training sessions.
I think that's really important is knowing your intention and knowing your why so that we can actually keep pushing through the bad times.
Yeah, it's all gravy and sexy when things are going great.
But how do we bounce back through these tougher times?
Yeah, I think what you said before they hit a chord was just the younger generation that we're seeing coming through is just struggling with that a little bit more.
Just a real instant gratification culture, social media, everything at their fingertips, knowing all the answers to everything.
Things get hard and just finding a little bit challenging to push through that and have some resilience.
是的。
Yeah.
所以
So
is there any advice that you would give to the younger generation, how we can help them or anyone aspiring on the journey?
It's interesting because I'm sure when we were the younger generation, we had our own obstacles that we had to deal with as well.
So it's not a finger pointing thing at all.
And if anything, it's society's fault, right?
Because society has provided so much more to all of us, younger and generations, to get the immediate gratification.
So we've got all the answers at our fingertips.
But don't just think that because we have the answers at our fingertips that we then have the ability at our fingertips.
You watch a chef give you a reel on Insta about how to cook a meal and you think that you're going to produce that meal you're not You've got to have the skills, right?
So don't mistake the answers for the ability.
There's a level of confidence that you need There to is a level And that's the process.
It's just continually chipping away and knowing that there's no magic pill.
You're not going to get to that end point and just click your fingers and have that level of mastery.
It's going to take time.
是的。
Yeah.
And I guess when you're young, you start with the end in mind.
When you're young, you might not.
You might not know.
So you are exploring and you're going through a phase of inquiry and that's really important too.
So, you know, whether you're 12 years old or whether you're 25 crikey, I wanted to swear then crikey.
Like I think I only sort of got clarity in my thirties, but it's okay to sort of not know.
是的。
Yes.
And we've talked about having goals and stuff.
It's okay to go through seasons of not knowing, provided you have an inquiring mindset, provided that you're asking questions and you are a seeker I suppose and that you want to know things.
So there's a difference between not having a goal or not knowing your intention and just floating.
And there's a difference between that and not knowing your goal, not knowing your intention, but seeking, questioning, inquiring, how come what for asking the dumb questions.
是的。
Yeah,
being curious.
Here's the second thing I wrote.
Yeah, especially when you're younger and it is a massive time to explore and there's so many options, so many doors available before you have to maybe streamline into a couple of paths.
对。
Yeah.
I feel for young kids.
So many options.
And so much noise.
There's so much noise stealing your attention and vying for your attention.
What did we have on do you like how I say we like you're the same age as me?
Noted.
When I was young, what was vying for my attention?
运动。
Sport.
是的
Yep.
Right?
And different types of sport.
School, not really vying for my attention.
Sport, my mates, girls.
And that was kind of it.
Man I reckon there's probably 10 times that vying for your attention now.
So like is it our fault that we don't know what we want to do when we've got so many things talking to us?
So I think when you can get rid of the white noise it's important and have moments in your day where there is no white noise, whether you start the day let's break it down into practical terms rather using self help words.
Don't pick up your phone when you wake up for twenty minutes.
Some people would call that meditating.
I'm just saying don't pick up your damn phone.
Don't put your phone in your bedroom when you go to bed.
Big one.
Some people would say that meditating.
It's just a practical thing.
Have a moment in your day in a work capacity or a school capacity where you don't answer emails and you don't respond to people, you just do the work.
There's a difference, right?
So just find moments where you can get rid of noise.
I think that's a big one.
I think it's important to keep bringing it back to practical terms.
So what do you notice when you start to do those things where you're not starting your day with your phone and you're really having that space to get rid of the white noise.
What do you notice changes in your day when you do these sort of things?
I can tell you what I notice when I don't.
Anxiety is higher, quality of sleep's less,
注意力
attention
span is not good, my behavior to those closest and nearest to me isn't the best.
So they're the things that happen when I'm on my device too much.
So it's fair to say that when I'm not on my device or when I'm not listening to the external noise that I am a better person in a conversation.
I'm busy, I'm always sort of half in a conversation and half on the next one, that's part of my nature.
But at worst, you're talking to me and I'm doing 10 other things.
Sebastian's in the room here with us, he could attest to that.
So what happens when I do find the time to get rid of the white noise?
I'm more effective.
I'm happier, I'm calmer.
I can do something in two minutes instead of ten because I'm effective, I'm focused.
Absolutely.
Think let's try to channel that into how that can help kids or anyone aspiring to be a professional athlete or professional in business.
What do you think can really change if you're heading in that direction?
How do you see it really improving the way you are on court or any sport if we start to channel into this area and do it consistently over a lengthy period
时间?
of time?
是的。
Yep.
I've got some real strong ideas on this.
是的。
Yep.
And, yeah, let's talk sport.
In my sporting career, so I played a lot of football at a pretty high standard, and I was not the most talented player on the field.
I played with guys that went on to win AFL premierships.
They played at AFL clubs, 100 game players plus.
I was their captain in many instances.
How does that happen?
You know how it happens?
Through hard work.
Right?
Hard damn work.
So you've just got to put in the effort.
And in your formative years, you're young, between eight and 15, if you don't have talent, but you have more effort, it actually can make up for the lack of talent.
Yeah, absolutely.
We see that time and time again.
Oh my goodness.
Imagine if I said to you, you could be great.
You don't have to be the best.
You just got to work harder.
We can all do that.
We can all do that.
I might not have the best backhand in the world, but I can work harder than you to get it better.
We hit about three or four months ago before your squad training on the end court, and there were some kids hitting in the court next to us.
I mean, we were running around like crazy ass monkeys.
And one of the kids came up to you and said, This guy runs around more than we do at Squad.
Do you remember that?
Yeah, I do.
Granted, we were running around.
Buddy, for real?
No, that should not be a thing.
Yeah, I Full
on, they're supposed to be on that tennis journey.
Why are you just just coming out because is because how you do one thing is how you do everything.
对。
Right.
And you subscribe to the idea of working hard and really trying to get the most out of your experience.
是的。
Yeah.
Even if it's not that you're trying to get to some endpoint in the tennis game.
There is no I don't have the end in mind when I play tennis.
It's interesting.
It's more I love the journey and the experience of it.
I think we've to call out though that tennis is interesting in that it's a solitary sport, you know, when you play football and you're not having the best day there's 18 guys to pick you up and drag you along and say it's okay, we got you.
Tennis isn't that, Tennis is a mental toughness.
So you need to come in prepared.
You need to dot your I's and dot your T's.
You don't want to be packing your bag, filling your drink bottle, checking your strings, have you got a fresh pair of socks fifteen minutes before you leave home.
It needs to be done.
You need to be ready.
Right?
Prepare.
But I think we have to call out that tennis is tough in that it's just on you.
But in the same breath, and I've written it here in my notes, you can't get there even though it's a solitary sport, can't get there by yourself.
是的。
Yeah.
And that's in business and in life.
You can't get anywhere you want to get.
Think of the most lofty dream you might have.
Win a grand slam.
Run your own business.
Develop an idea.
Win an Academy Award.
Whatever it is, it's your dream.
Right?
It's yours to own, yours to pursue, yours to achieve.
Guess what?
It's going to take the help of other people for you to get there.
That's really interesting.
So how important are those people helping you to get your dream?
I want to win wrap your head around that for a I want to win the Australian Open.
很好。
Great.
I've got parents who will always be there for you.
I've got a coach, I've got physios, I've got people.
Strength and conditioning.
All of that stuff.
Maybe mindset coach.
All of
都。
that.
Close friends.
对。
Right.
Who said, Yeah, cool.
I'm going to help you get paid for it, whatever.
I'm going help you achieve your dream.
Wow, that's pretty full on.
Yeah, I think we can break that down to know that everything we do is an individual, But we can't do anything if we don't have good people around us.
And I think it's really, really important to understand who you're bringing into that space.
是的。
Yeah.
Especially on an individual sport like tennis, but it's not even tennis, just in your life.
Like, who are your closest friends?
Are they adding value to your life?
Are they actually a positive influence?
Or are they are they dragging you down?
Or are they a negative influence?
And if that answer is yes, that they are negative influence on you, then I think we can probably say goodbye towards your goals and aspirations in the long term.
Maybe in the short term, there's some maneuverability in that.
But I think in the long term, I just don't see how you're going to get towards your goals if you're not surrounding yourself with the right team, the right people.
So I guess, how do we discern who's right?
Knew that was going to be the question at the end of that.
Was like, that's going be the question he's going to ask me, how do you make that choice?
Well, this is cool because some of our earlier points that we made now come into light.
It's trial and error, right?
I still make the wrong choices with regards to relationships and people in my life and so forth.
The trick is that when you make the wrong choice for a particular reason that you register it, clock it and you don't make it twice.
And the sporting analogy of that is don't let one mistake lead to three.
Right?
You're done beforehand to the net, reset, make sure the next one's good.
And that happens too often.
Don't let one mistake become free.
And that's the same with relationships.
You make the wrong choice, great, learn why, don't make it again.
And sometimes the wrong choice is the wrong term.
You do outgrow relationships.
I heard this great thing the other day about a rocket ship, right?
And someone on social media talked about if you are a rocket ship and people in your life are the afterburners and the afterburners fall off and they fall off because they played their role and you're still going.
So if you want to use that analogy, sometimes relationships come and go for a reason but that's not the question.
Your question is making bad decisions on relationships.
It's going to happen.
Learn from it, don't make it again.
Don't let one mistake become three.
Because then it's just you're being stupid.
是的。
Yes.
Right?
And there's no way to butter that up.
If you choose to hang out with the wrong crowd multiple times, have you got rocks in your head?
对。
Yeah.
And to add to that, I think the reason why maybe some people get stuck with the wrong crowd is they don't actually have that space and time that we're talking about to get rid of the white noise.
If you're always busy in your mind and always doing, you never have any moments to kind of stop and realise, hey, what's going on in my life?
We can keep moving into decisions and hanging out with people that maybe aren't best for us.
So when you talk about sport or tennis analogy, you dump a forehand into the net.
If you're just so emotional and worried about how bad your forehand is and how you can't do this, then the next point comes.
The likelihood of you doing that again is now elevated.
But if you can just take a moment to go, hey, I just dumped that forehand in that.
Just pause for a second and go, okay, well, clearly knew what I did wrong there.
It's all good.
Let's just reset here.
Let's set a better intention.
And you might not win the next point.
You might not do the next thing great.
But I just feel like almost all of the time it's going to be better.
Even if you miss, it's going be a better miss.
是的。
Yeah.
Because you're stopping, you're pausing, you're having that intention.
Yeah, life could be a bit like tennis, right?
Life could be like tennis in that I would rather miss at life and miss in tennis by missing big then missing into the net.
是的。
Yeah.
Right?
是的。
Yeah.
Yeah, I gave it a go.
But I overshot it.
对。
Yes.
Opposed to, I gave it a go and I didn't even get stage one at Everest.
Guess in tennis terms, you'd rather miss big than dump it.
At least you've given yourself an opportunity to cross that line on the net and it's the same with life.
I think that ties into the winning mentality that we're trying to build where we are at ATA is, I mean, if we look at Carlos Alcaraz, the guy is just almost the best we've ever seen in terms of how he looks, his mindset, like at his age, just haven't seen someone do the things he's doing so And I think what stands out is when it comes down to the big moments, he stands up and he goes for it.
He doesn't hide away.
He doesn't power from the moment.
He stands up and be brave.
Sometimes he misses, but more times than not, he's taking the shot and he's and he backs his ability and goes for it.
So I think if we talk about high level tennis, sport, business, I think when it comes down to the moment, you got to stand up and be brave and go for it.
Yeah, and what helps being brave and going for it is being comfortable with making mistakes, is being prepared, having a good safety network around you.
And all of these things that we've spoken about, I can guarantee you Akraz has got those things buttoned down.
And then on top of that, he can play a bit of tennis.
是的。
Yeah.
But you look at the I've only seen him on TV.
I can't wait to see him live.
You look at him and you know how much sacrifice he's put in.
You can see the clarity in his eyes about the life he's leading.
And what I like about him and I look at him and this is a good one.
This is a really good one.
He's a nice guy.
You can see it.
Because everyone thinks that to be successful on the court or in business or in life, you've got to have a hard edge and it generally makes you a bit of a you've got to be a hard ass.
He's not.
You can see he's a good dude.
You can actually still be a good dude or check whatever and have success.
Let's throw that myth out the door now.
For me to get there, I've got to be singular focus, real hard ass and, I've got make tough decisions and it might be bad on people, but it's gonna, I've got to climb on people.
Yeah, not really.
是的。
Yeah.
You can still be a good person.
Yeah, there's some key values and principles that he lives by and yeah, he shows good sports.
Do reckon I'd
get a game off of him?
I reckon if you're if you're sliding that lefty serve out wide on the ad Yeah.
And you're quick on the feet Yeah.
I feel
A couple of points.
是的。
Yeah.
No, no, no.
I feel like if you get a few of those and maybe like he hasn't read your serve early because you got that quick action, the ball's going up early.
I feel like you've catch him by surprise, but you'd to come out hot.
I think that he can only serve second serves.
是的。
Yeah.
Let's go with that.
是的。
Yeah.
And maybe maybe the tram lines.
是的。
Yeah.
You get tram lines.
You get extend baseline.
是的。
Yeah.
And maybe he gets, like, half the court.
Like, he has to hit down the middle.
Is he with a wooden racket?
Just to help just to help me out here.
I need.
Well, have you seen that that that racket that functional tennis has bought out the saber?
It's got the blue and the head size is like I don't know.
It's So he's playing with the saber.
It's like a paddle racket.
是的。
Yeah.
He's playing with the saber.
I think now now we're talking about competitive battle.
对。
Yeah.
好。
Yeah.
You can sell tickets to that.
I respect that.
I think I want to go back because I think we've been covering and dancing around a few really key points.
I think there's a lot of value to take away from some of the things we've been talking about.
But I think you talked about you touched on something that thought was pretty good, which was the seeing it in his eyes, this amount of sacrifice, and that he really believes in himself.
So is that something that you look for or see in people straight away that you can see kind of their potential when their eyes are lighting up and they're really good listener?
Is that someone you look to bring on to your team as an employer in your business?
Yeah, in life, absolutely.
That looks different for different peoples.
That looks different for different people.
That looks should be different subject to the needs you have in life.
Yeah, absolutely.
You can only determine that if you're a good listener.
You can only determine that because the assessment of the person isn't in what they say, it's in how they carry themselves.
Yeah, that's a big one.
You can tell by posture and how they walk and talk.
And the gut and the mind makes that assessment within the first two seconds of meeting someone.
So if you're not listening to too much white noise, you can actually engage and listen to that gut.
The power of the gut is a science.
So you can deduce a lot about a person subconsciously.
It's just about being in touch with that consciously to sort of to know.
There's a couple of things I want to wrap up on here.
I thought you're going do a rap.
I know you're going to rap on.
There's gonna be a musical interlude.
This is how Jamie Fallon.
This podcast called Next Level or what?
不是。
No.
I just I just wanna I just wanna talk about has there been anyone that's influenced you that you stands out?
Whether you've met them live or you haven't even met them, they're just online figures that stand up to you?
What are some of the key things that they've taught you?
是的。
Yeah.
Heaps people have influenced influenced me, that I've worked with, people that I've just observed from afar.
I remember a boss of mine, he would have been 40 at the time.
His name was I'm not gonna mention his name.
His name was Simon Spellesy.
I think he's now in charge of, like, the Sydney Opera House or something.
I was managing a call centre in New Zealand for a hotel group and I would have been 20 years old and he threw me out of a car in Rotorua New Zealand one day to go manage a call centre for like six weeks, which turned out to be six months.
And these people in that call centre would have been old enough to be my parents, and the respect thing was going through my head.
And as I got out of the car, already I respected this guy a lot because he was a leader, but he was mild mannered.
As I got out of the car, said, Hey, Terry.
I said, Yes, Simon.
什么?
What?
He goes, Don't worry.
They don't know that you don't know.
I'm like, What?
He goes, They don't know that you don't know.
And they don't.
So you've got to step out in the tennis court and you've got a sore ankle, you've got a shit backhand.
They don't know.
So there's something to be said about just believing in yourself.
So I always took that from, they don't know that you don't know.
Just stay one step ahead of the game.
Be prepared as best as you can.
But on a bad day, if you can't, just stay one step ahead.
They don't know that you don't know.
I always remember that.
You know, other people that I've seen along the journey and admired, well, you know, for me, I don't it starts close.
My dad, my mom, that sort of stuff.
And we could do a whole podcast on their inspiration.
But I look close for inspiration.
Although, you know, you always have models.
Geez, I love Stefan Edberg when I was a kid.
I talk about grace and poise and, you know, just a gentleman.
I love the tenacity of Agassi, you know, and those skills.
And there was footballers.
I looked to a lot of sports people and loved people that had grunt and grit and fought for things.
I think you watch a fighter compete for his sport more often than you would someone that's just really good because that can get a bit boring.
We liked Jordan because he was great.
是的。
Yeah.
But he was more of a fighter than he was good.
And he was good.
He's the best.
But we liked him because he was a fighter.
是的
Yeah.
Right?
So, yeah, that's
that's why I
got for you.
对。
Yeah.
Extracting some key values and key qualities that these people have.
I want a bit more of that or I feel like I could use more
of that.
是的。
Yeah.
Because inspiration's all around us.
It is.
I draw it from YouTube, bro.
Likewise, likewise, my man.
I'm gonna wrap up here.
There's one more thing I wanna ask you.
好的。
Okay.
Is from the outside, I feel like you've done a lot of cool things, lot of experience.
是的。
Yeah.
You've achieved success in whatever you want to define success as.
In my observations, feel like you've done some great things and met some amazing people along the way.
Where do you see yourself moving towards in the next phase of your life now that you've done all these things?
Where do you feel called to in the next phase?
Good question to finish on.
Wow, you gonna ask that of everyone in the other podcast.
It depends on who the guest is.
It's a good one.
You know, I'm at a stage in my life now, I think, where my desire, my ambition has not tempered at all.
It's still a 100%.
You know, there's a lack of satisfaction in anything.
But I'm at a stage now where I want to spend more time to be satisfied and to be happy and to enjoy things.
And part of that is I have this real bent to put myself and surround myself with people who are good at what they do and give them an opportunity to shine.
And our work environment here is an example of that.
Put people in the place who are good at things to do that.
It's okay to not know stuff, right?
So I just want to surround myself with people who are good at stuff better than me.
Better than me.
So before I wanted to be the man at everything.
Oh, I can do that.
I can do that.
Here's a hot tip.
You can't do everything first.
You can't do everything first.
Do one thing, do it really well, and then start to build off of that.
Gary Ablett, Geelong footballer, the old man, not the junior.
Master the basics before you do the fancy stuff.
So sure, the tween is good, but just get the overhead smash down pat first.
Right?
So I'm at a stage in my life where I just wanna surround myself with people who are better at stuff than me and help them to shine.
是的。
Yeah.
That'll benefit me in some way.
What a cool vibe that would be.
是的。
Yeah.
I think that's a really good takeaway to end on is anyone that you see has some real skills or traits that you admire or you really like, I think try to really learn from them.
Get yourself in as many situations as you can to learn from them.
对。
Yes.
To help you with maybe areas that you don't you lack or you struggle with.
I think that's that's a really good way to end.
I'm really I'm really grateful to have you here.
This was fun.
This is really good.
I feel like we had a really beautiful free flowing conversation mixed in with some some good questions.
So appreciate the time.
I love it.
And I love the idea of this and it fits hand and glove into everything that you guys are trying to do at ATA.
Not trying to do, that you are doing.
It just fits really well.
And you have this really amazing nurture process that you guys go through at ATA.
You know, everything is about elite standards, and you use that word.
But yourself, you know, and all the coaches out there, Dylan and Matt and Theo, everyone lives by those standards.
You that tennis coach that tells you to be the best, but he's wearing a dirty t shirt and looks like he has eaten six meat pies?
That's not you guys.
You're living the mantra and the way of life.
It's inspiring.
I love it.
I love that my kids are part of that.
And me.
Yeah, absolutely.
We love having you.
Thank you so much.
Thank you, man.
是的。
Yeah.
Appreciate it, bro.
All love, man.
