And I was so excited to see that you guys were so excited about this month's category. This is a category that I personally am very invested in, and so to see that mutual investment was very exciting. Now as you guys can tell by the title of today's episode, today we are talking about a man who has been coined the charmer.

Speaker 0

He's also been known as the East Side killer and the Bellevue killer. Today, we are talking about none other than a man named George Russell. So with that being said, let's jump right on into it today. Now this case takes place in Bellevue, Washington. The time frame we're looking at is the nineteen nineties, and the population in Bellevue at that time was about 98,000 people.

Speaker 0

So we're going to jump right where this case begins in 06/23/1990 at the local McDonald's in Bellevue. It was the early morning hours of the morning shift where the employees at the McDonald's were getting ready to start their day. Now one of the employees did their job of taking out the garbage to the dumpster out back and in doing so, he stumbled across something that didn't quite look right laying behind the dumpster. Upon further look, once he got closer, he was able to see that behind the dumpster was a body of a woman laying dead on the ground. Now he immediately ran inside and called 911, and authorities arrived on the scene promptly afterwards.

Speaker 0

Now when police arrived on the scene, they closed off the area, which was now a crime scene. And they were able to see that the victim was laying on her back without any clothing and only wearing a necklace around her neck. The victim appeared to be a white female in her mid to late 20s with blonde hair standing at about five feet seven inches tall. Now at first glance, police were not able to determine how exactly this woman was killed. However, what they were able to tell without any shadow of a doubt was that the body of the woman laying on the ground had been posed.

Speaker 0

Her legs had been crossed over one another, and then her hands had been placed on her stomach crossed over, and she was holding a pine cone in her hands. Lastly, there was a plastic coffee cup lid that was placed over her right eye as well. Now it was very eerie the way that her body was posed because it almost appeared as if the body was being staged in a way that would be similar if she had been put into a coffin or getting ready for a burial. Now as far as any evidence around the crime scene goes, police were not able to find any physical evidence. There were no drops of blood.

Speaker 0

There were no signs of a struggle at that particular scene. So that led police to believe that where her body had been discovered behind this dumpster was more of a dumping spot, for lack of a better term, in and of itself, rather than the spot that she was actually killed at. Now this led police to the next question, which was why this particular spot? Why did the killer choose to drop her body off here? And what really happened to her?

Speaker 0

Now, after an autopsy was conducted, the medical examiner concluded that the time of death was approximately five hours before the woman's body had been discovered and that the cause of death was strangulation. The medical examiner also discovered that the woman had a severe blow to the side of her head and she had also been kicked in the stomach so hard that it ruptured her liver. It was also found that the woman had been raped pre and postmortem with a foreign object. Now there was some DNA found on the woman's body. However, because we are talking about the nineteen nineties and DNA technology was obviously nowhere near as advanced as it is today.

Speaker 0

So because of that, there wasn't necessarily a database or anything that police could run the DNA through. There wasn't a system to do that yet. So the DNA that was found on the woman's body was only going to really be useful once police had a suspect. That way they would be able to confirm if the suspect's DNA matched the DNA found on the woman's body. Now you might be sitting here wondering, who is this woman?

Speaker 0

Well, on 06/27/1990, just several days after the woman's body was discovered, detectives received a call that there was a missing person's report filed. The missing person's report was for a 27 year old woman named Mary Ann Polreich. Polreich. Mary Ann's roommate had filed the report after she hadn't seen or heard from her in at least two days. Detectives had the roommate come down to the station and showed her the necklace that the victim was found wearing.

Speaker 0

And sadly, the roommate was able to confirm that the necklace did in fact belong to Mary Anne, therefore confirming that she was their victim. Mary Anne grew up in a family of eight children, and they were all incredibly close. She had a tradition where she would go and visit with her parents every single Sunday, and she was described as being outgoing and incredibly welcoming and sweet. She loved her friends. She loved being social.

Speaker 0

She had a very bubbly personality, and she worked at a medical device distribution company. Now based off of the medical examiner's reports, it was safe to assume that Mary Ann was murdered in the late night hours of June 22, which was a Friday. Now Mary Anne's friends told detectives that on that Friday, Mary Anne more than likely went to her favorite spot in town, which was a Mexican restaurant called Papa Gallo's Cantina. Papa Gallo's was a fun restaurant bar vibe, and it was the central spot for Mary Anne and all of her friends. So once police learned this, they decided to go over to the Papa Gallo's restaurant and see if anyone could confirm that Mary Anne was there on that Friday night.

Speaker 0

And lo and behold, they were able to do that. Mary Anne was a regular at the cantina. She knew a lot of the employees that worked there, some of the bartenders. And so they were able to confirm that they did see Mary Anne that Friday night. Police had talked to some of the employees there about Mary Ann's behavior that night.

Speaker 0

And according to them, they said that Mary Ann's behavior was as normal as it ever was. Mary Ann was always a very social person. She was very bubbly, and this night was no different. She was being social, talking to a lot of different people throughout the night, and it didn't seem like anything was wrong. Now even though they were able to confirm that people did see Mary Anne throughout the night at Papagayo's, no one ended up seeing her leaving.

Speaker 0

So because of this, no one knew if she had left by herself, if she left with someone else, what state of mind she was in when she was leaving. It really led to a lot more questions than it did answers. Now something that police were able to find, however, was Mary Anne's car in the parking lot of the Papagayo's restaurant, and they were told that it had been there ever since Friday night, which led police to wonder if that meant that Mary Anne had left with someone else because that would make sense as to why she didn't take her own car home that night. Now because there was a lack of witnesses and there being no surveillance footage, police really had no idea what happened to Mary Anne that night or who she could have possibly left with. And then seven weeks after the murder of Mary Anne and only two miles away on the morning of 08/09/1990, there was a 13 year old girl who had woken up in the morning and noticed that her mom, 35 year old Carol Beath, hadn't left for work that day as she typically did.

Speaker 0

Carol's daughter went over to her bedroom door and knocked, however, didn't receive any answer. So she went ahead and opened the door. And when she did, she discovered a horrific scene. Carol's daughter walked into her mom's room and saw Carol laying on her bed with her head covered by a pillow without any clothes. Carol was only wearing a pair of red high heels when her body was discovered.

Speaker 0

And similarly to Mary Anne, Carol's body had also been posed in a very suggestive way. Her legs were spread. However, her knees were bent so that her heels were touching each other. And along with that there had been a rifle inserted inside of her. Now immediately, Carol's daughter called 911 and police arrived on the scene.

Speaker 0

And when they got there, they removed the pillow from Carol's face and noticed numerous blows to Carol's head. Now unlike Mary Anne's murder where there was not a lot of blood found at the crime scene, this was the total opposite. There was blood everywhere in Carol's bedroom. There was blood on the mattress, on the pillowcases, on the lampshades, on the walls, on the dresser. There was blood everywhere.

Speaker 0

Now it was clear to police that this was a very violent scene and that Carol fought for her life. Now police learned through Carol's family that Carol was a bartender who had worked at several different locations throughout Bellevue. Carol was a mother of two daughters. She had a nine year old daughter and a 13 year old daughter, and her children were her absolute world. She was known to be a devoted mother and an amazing friend to everyone that knew her.

Speaker 0

Now Carol's case in particular definitely hit a little closer to home for police because the lieutenant on this case also had a nine year old daughter who just so happened to be really good friends with Carol's nine year old daughter. And not only that, the lieutenant's daughter had just attended a slumber party for Carol's nine year old only about two weeks prior to the murder. So like I said, this case definitely hit a little bit closer to home for police for that reason. Now during the autopsy, the medical examiner concluded that the cause of death for Carol was blunt force trauma to the head and that Carol had received approximately 60 blows to her head with a heavy object, and those blows continued after she died. Now it didn't take long for police to piece together that Mary Anne and Carol's murders were definitely connected.

Speaker 0

Bellevue in and of itself was a very low crime community, but to have two brutal murders within weeks of each other where both victims were bizarrely posed was no coincidence, and police started to really fear what was coming next. Now detectives did speak with Carol's 13 year old daughter while they were processing the crime scene, and she told them that the night that her mother was killed, she was in her room lying in her bed, and she ended up hearing some heavy footsteps walking down the hallway. Now the 13 year old daughter claimed that her bedroom door was open at the time, and she was able to see a male figure walking down the hall carrying a flashlight. Now Carol did have a boyfriend at the time named Mike, who we will get to in a moment. But Mike did not live in the house.

Speaker 0

He would just visit periodically. And Carol was a single mother. So to have a man walking through the house late at night was pretty unusual. Now the 13 year old claimed that when she saw the male figure, she pretended to be asleep. She closed her eyes, and the man actually stopped by her room and lit a flashlight and beamed the flashlight over her eyes before ultimately turning back around and continuing down the hall.

Speaker 0

Now, like I mentioned earlier, Carol did have a boyfriend named Mike. And according to Carol's daughter, she claimed that when she saw the figure, while it was a little unusual, she just assumed that it was Mike because she had no other reason to believe that it wasn't Mike. And once she thought that in her mind, she just closed her eyes and went to sleep. So now with this new information, police definitely wanted to speak to Mike. And after talking to some of Carol's friends, police learned that there definitely was some tension between Carol and Mike at the time of her murder.

Speaker 0

Police were able to bring Mike in for questioning. And upon doing so, Mike claimed that he and Carol definitely were at a rocky point in their relationship. They did argue a lot, and sometimes the arguments got very, very heated. And during the questioning, police really just came straight out and asked Mike, did you kill Carol? And instead of saying no or yes, instead, Mike looked at police and said, quote, unquote, I couldn't have.

Speaker 0

Now when police heard this, they were definitely taken aback because this isn't the typical answer that you would hear from someone who was trying to defend themselves against a murder accusation. When someone's being questioned on whether or not they killed someone, typically, it's a no. Usually, people always are just flat out, no. I didn't. But the fact that Mike is saying, well, I couldn't have, it definitely left a little bit of vagueness that was a red flag and suspicious to police.

Speaker 0

Now something else that also raised suspicion for police was when Mike told them that he was a regular at the Papagayo's Cantina restaurant. Now, obviously, this was the same place where Mary Anne was last seen alive. So because of this, police started to really raise their suspicions. They ended up doing a background check on Mike, which they really didn't find anything when they did that, but they did collect his DNA. And because there was no evidence or physical evidence to connect Mike to the murder of Mary Anne or Carol at that point, Mike was free to go.

Speaker 0

So this brings us to three weeks later on 08/31/1990 when a 911 call was placed in Kirkland, Washington. Now Kirkland is only about five minutes away from Bellevue, and a 911 call was made to report a murder. Now when police arrived on the scene, they discovered a woman lying in her bed on her back, and it was clear that she had been stabbed many, many times. Now similar to the previous two murders, this woman's body was also staged. Placed in her hands was a book titled The Joy of Sex, and there was also a sex toy inserted into her throat.

Speaker 0

Now the victim of this murder was 24 year old Andrea Levine, who is also known as Randy. Randy was known as a kind, loving person. Her brother Doug said that she simply just wanted to, quote, live, laugh, and love and grow old like a normal person, end quote. According to her family, Randy liked to frequent nightclubs in the Bellevue area. She was very social and outgoing.

Speaker 0

Her and her coworkers would regularly go visit a cocktail lounge near Papagayo's. Now after Randy's autopsy, it was confirmed that all in all, she had over 200 wounds on her body and that she died from multiple head injuries. It was also determined that the stab wounds took place postmortem, so after Randy had already passed away. The medical examiner also noticed a tan line where a ring would have been on Randy's finger. And after talking with her family, they confirmed that Randy did wear a specific ring all of the time.

Speaker 0

It was a ring given to her by her best friend, and she wore it constantly. And police looked high and low for this ring all throughout Randy's apartment, which is where the crime had occurred. However, they were unable to locate it, which made police believe that the killer must have taken the ring and kept it as a trophy. Now when canvassing Brandi's room in her apartment, which was obviously the crime scene, police were able to find some hair fibers laying around. So they collected that as evidence.

Speaker 0

And in Carol's crime scene, there were also hair fibers discovered. So because of this, police brought back in Mike, Carol's boyfriend, and took a hair sample from him to see if they matched. However, soon police realized that it was in fact not a match. And so because of this, this obviously meant that Mike was not their suspect, and police were really back to square one now. Now because of the time frame, it only being several weeks after Carol's murder, along with the fact that Randy's body was also posed, police were now convinced that they were hunting a serial killer.

Speaker 0

Now at this point, detectives brought in a criminologist with the help of building a profile to narrow down who this killer was. Now when this criminologist was brought in, they determined that the postmortem injuries that were inflicted on all three victims represented an anger and a rage that the killer had. The criminologist also theorized that surprisingly enough, this killer was probably terrified of women and was able to take out all of that built up angst and rage on them after they were dead. And the criminologists also determined that whoever was responsible for this was not going to stop until they were caught. Now the community of Bellevue was absolutely terrified during this time.

Speaker 0

As I mentioned, Bellevue was very typically a low crime area, and now a lot of people are being brutally and horrifically murdered, and no one knew why. Now the media named this killer, as I said in the beginning, the East Side killer with other nicknames being the charmer and the Bellevue killer, but no one had any idea what to look for when it came to finding this murderer. Then on 09/12/1990, nine one one operators received a phone call this time from a woman herself who was begging for help. The woman claimed that someone had been trying to break in to her apartment. The woman who was on the 911 call was named Robin Oldenburg.

Speaker 0

Now according to Robin, she had been packing for an upcoming weekend trip that she was going on. So she was just getting her belongings ready, making sure all of her bags were prepared and packed when all of a sudden Robin claimed that she heard a knock on her door. Now according to Robin, she remembered the knock sounding very firm and matter of fact. And Robin also said that when she heard the knock, the thought did come into her head about the serial killer that was on the run at the time. However, she quickly threw that thought out of her mind because she told herself that she was being paranoid and not to worry about it because it was probably nothing.

Speaker 0

However, in the time frame that she was able to have that thought about fifteen seconds later, Robin heard another knock, this time coming from her window. And Robin claimed right when she heard that second knock, she immediately had the thought to call 911. Now Robin remained on the phone with a 911 operator while she was waiting for police. And when the first officer, an officer named Tom Baker, pulled into the apartment complex to go assess the situation, He came in direct path with a white Volkswagen car that was trying to drive out of the complex. Now officer Baker flagged down the car and stopped the vehicle, and he went over to the driver's side window.

Speaker 0

And a man inside rolled down this window. Now when the man rolled down his window, officer Baker was able to see that the man in the car was actually someone he was familiar with. It was a man named George Russell. Now immediately, George looked at the officer and said, quote, unquote, hi, Tom. Officer Baker asked George if he had anything to do with the 911 call that had just came in about someone looking through the windows of an apartment, but George immediately denied it.

Officer Baker then instructed George to get out of the vehicle and hand over his license. And during that time, officer Baker radioed in to other police at the station to do a background check on George. And upon doing so is when officer Baker learned that George actually did have a warrant out for his arrest at that time for impersonating a police officer. So George was arrested right then and there. And his arrest had nothing to do at the time with looking through Robin's apartment or knocking on her door or harassing her.

It all had to do with this outstanding warrant. Now while officer Baker was transporting George Russell, other officers arrived to Robin's apartment and canvassed the area. And upon doing so, they saw that Robin's screen door had been removed, confirming that whoever was doing this was in the process of breaking in to Robin's home. Officers then asked Robin if she knew a man named George Russell, and Robin was immediately taken back because she actually did know George personally, but also knew that George Russell was nothing but bad news and trouble. Robin claimed that the first time she met George was at a party that they both attended where they socialized and chitchatted and got to know one another.

And Robin described George as a very charismatic and charming man. He had a very smooth personality to him. He was really able to engage in conversation and made people feel important. He was very funny. He was very engaging.

Speaker 0

And overall, again, just had a very smooth, charming personality. However, over time, Robin claimed that she started to see a much darker side to George Russell. Now at this point, police brought George down to the station, and they were doing some more digging into his past. And it was then that they were really able to confirm what Robin was saying about George having a very troublesome history. George had spent a lot of time in and out of the King County Jail, and he also had a background in breaking and entering.

Speaker 0

Now if you remember how I mentioned earlier that officer Tom Baker and George were familiar with each other, you might be sitting there wondering why. Well, the reason that George and officer Baker knew each other was because officer Baker had previously worked at the Papa Gallo's restaurant as outside security, and George was a regular to Papa Gallo's. Officer Baker said that while he would work security there, George would often come outside and talk to him or the other security officers that were working at the time. And it was very clear to officer Baker and the other security guards that George was very much trying to be friend them. He tried to engage in different conversations with them and spent a decent amount of time outside talking to the security guards rather than being inside, you know, enjoying the restaurant or eating or drinking or what have you.

Speaker 0

Now officer Baker claimed that George did have a very charming personality, and he was very bubbly with the security guards. So officer Baker never thought too much into it at the time. Now during George's police interview, George again really tried to pull these same tactics. He tried to befriend the police and pulled the smooth guy act, but police were not really buying it. They ended up flat out asking George if he was responsible for the murders of either Mary Anne or Carol or Randy, and George adamantly denied having any involvement in it.

Speaker 0

However, what he did say was that he did know Mary Anne and Randy from the Papagayo's restaurant and seeing them out and about around town. However, he denied knowing Carol. Now, again, George was putting on the bubbly smooth act. However, there was a big shift in energy right when police asked George to submit hair samples and DNA. According to the police that were conducting the interview, right when that question was asked, George's entire demeanor had changed.

Speaker 0

Police claimed that the charming, charismatic personality immediately turned off, and George got very, very quiet. He sat back in his chair, and he crossed his arms over his chest and said, quote, don't you think somebody else should be in the room, end quote. Now police, this obviously to them meant that George was asking for an attorney, and that is when the interview stopped. George refused to give any of his DNA or any hair samples over to the authorities. Now even though George had an outstanding warrant at this time, it was only a ninety day hold.

Speaker 0

So George was only going to be in jail for those ninety days, and then he was going to be released. But that meant that police were really working against the clock to close this case. They knew that once those ninety days were up, George was going to be released, and they could not let that happen because they were certain that if they did, they would have another victim on their hands. So because of this, police started by going back to the Papagayo's restaurant and were asking people who were working there if they could connect George Russell to any of the victims. Now they ended up talking to a security guard who said that the night that Mary Anne was last seen at Papagayo's, which was June 22, George was also at Papagayo's that night.

Speaker 0

And not only that, he claimed that he saw George leave with a woman. Now the security guard was not able to confirm whether or not this woman was Mary Anne. However, he did say that the physical description was very similar to what Mary Ann looked like. Now along with that, the security officer also told the detectives that George did not go to Papagayo's alone that night. He did not go by himself.

Speaker 0

He went to Papagayo's that night with a friend of his named Smitty. So now with this new information, police want to track down Smitty to see what he knows about that night. So police were actually able to track down Smitty, and he was very open in talking to them. He told police that on the night of Mary Anne's murder, him and George went to Papagayo's together in Smitty's truck. And then later on in the night, George approached Smitty and had asked him if it would be okay if he borrowed Smitty's truck to take a girl home with him.

Speaker 0

Now Smitty wanted to be a good friend. He thought that he was helping a friend out, and he told George that it was totally fine if he took the girl home in his truck. Now Smitty also told police that he was under the impression that George would be returning to Papagayo's later that night to pick Smitty up. However, he never did, and Smitty had to find his own ride home that night because George left in his truck. Smitty claimed he didn't see George until the next day when George had brought Smitty's truck back over to Smitty's house and had told Smitty some story about how the girl he took home had thrown up in the car and that the car was smelling really bad because of it.

Speaker 0

So Smitty was going to have to get the car cleaned because the girl had gotten sick in the car. Now Smitty said that when he heard this, he walked over to his car and immediately felt a wave of nauseousness. Because according to him, the smell in the car did not smell like throw up or vomit or any of the sorts, but in fact, it smelled like blood. So with this information, Smitty handed over his truck to police, and police had the truck processed for any blood or DNA that could possibly be in this truck. They took this truck apart.

Speaker 0

And, ultimately, they were able to discover a dark red stain on the seat of the truck that was sent off to the forensics lab. Now while the forensics lab was processing everything, police then started doing some digging into George Russell's past. They wanted to get a better idea of who George Russell was. George was born in Florida in April 1958 to his parents, Joyce and George senior. His parents separated very soon after he was born, and his mother left him with his grandmother to live in Mercer Island, Washington with her new husband.

Speaker 0

Now George moved out to be with them a few years later, but by that point, his mom had a daughter with her new husband. And while George's sister was absolutely adored and doted on, George was pushed away and ridiculed and abandoned, leaving him with great anger and jealousy. Now by the time George was 16 years old, he was only living with his stepfather at the time. His mother had abandoned him and left him with his stepfather. And his stepfather had ended up getting married to a new woman.

Speaker 0

And apparently, when this new woman moved into the house, George grew a hyper fixation on his new stepmother and began spying on her and following her around. And it became so bad that the stepfather ended up kicking George out of the house because of it. After getting kicked out of the house, George moved back to Florida to live with his aunts. Now when police learned this, this very much connected the dots for them looking at this from a psychological standpoint of these murders. Police believe that George was taking out his rage on these women because he had such a deep hatred for his mom and the fact that she abandoned him.

Speaker 0

They also believed that the brutality and the staging of the victims was George's way of showing victims that they had no value and that women as a whole had no value. Now at this point, the media and the public were made aware that police had a suspect in custody and that this suspect was George Russell. That became public knowledge. They also knew that police were now kind of in a limbo period waiting for forensic results to come back. And in that time frame, police ended up receiving a phone call in December 1990.

Speaker 0

And this phone call was from a woman who claimed that she actually personally knew George. She claimed that her and George were meant to go on a date in late August, which was right around the time of Randy's murder. However, George stood her up. Now according to this woman, she said that once she was stood up, she was very, very upset about it. She had a lot of anger about it.

Speaker 0

She was really mad about it. And she went off on George, so to speak, about how upset she was and that she was not happy. Now according to this woman, she claimed that George was extremely apologetic and asked to reschedule their date. And the date that he rescheduled for was right after Randy's murder. Now the woman claimed that when she showed up to the rescheduled date, George gave her a gift as sort of a peace offering for standing her up, and that that gift was a ring.

Speaker 0

Now the woman described the ring, and the description that this woman gave was almost identical to what Randy's ring looked like. Like I mentioned earlier, Randy had a tan line on her finger from a ring that she always wore that her best friend had given her, and the family of Randy was able to give police a description of what that ring looked like. And according to this woman, it was the exact same description. So at this point, police asked the woman if she would bring the ring into the police station so they could confirm it was Randy's. Because if police were able to confirm that this ring was Randy's, that was the smoking gun in this case.

Speaker 0

If police were able to confirm that this ring that George gave this woman was the same ring as Randy's, that puts him at the scene of the crime. Now, unfortunately, this was not as simple as the woman just bringing in the ring for police because the woman told police that she actually did not have the ring anymore because she gave it to a friend of hers who was now hitchhiking to Florida. So for police, this was obviously discouraging to hear because for them, it felt like finding a needle in a haystack. This woman has a friend who was hitchhiking to Florida. How are police going to be able to track down this friend?

Speaker 0

But luckily, the woman did give police the friend's contact information, and police were able to reach out to the friend's family. And when police reached out to the family, they asked if they had heard from their son, and they explained the whole situation. And according to the family, the son would very much call on and off. It wasn't an everyday check-in. And police explained, again, why it was so significant that they got ahold of their son so they could talk about this ring.

Speaker 0

Now the family did assure police that the next time their son called, they would make sure that he knew to get in contact with the authorities. And lo and behold, several days later, the son called his family, and the family made him aware of what was going on. Now you can imagine this man's surprise when he now hears that he is possibly holding the missing puzzle piece to a serial killer case, which, again, is Randy's ring. Now police did end up finally getting in contact with this man, and he tells police that he pawned the ring off. He told police that he pawned the ring off along with a guitar of his to a pawn shop in Key West, Florida called Uncle Sam's Pawn Shop.

Speaker 0

Now at this point, police wasted no time because they, again, were worried that at this point, the ring was gone. It could have been sold. It could have been taken apart. They did not know what to expect. But without any hesitation, detectives hopped on a plane and flew down to the pawnshop.

Speaker 0

And Randy's father actually lived in Florida at the time, so he was able to meet detectives at this pawnshop. And to everyone's surprise, when they all arrived to uncle Sam's, they found out that the ring had not been sold. It was still in the pawnshop. And upon looking at the ring, Randy's father was able to confirm that that was his daughter's ring. Now this was confirmation for police that George did have Randy's ring.

Speaker 0

Now shortly after this confirmation, the forensics lab came back and were able to confirm that the blood found in Smitty's truck was in fact Mary Ann's blood. And so because of this, George Russell was charged with all three murders. He pled not guilty, and the case did go to trial. And the defense did try to argue that because the method of killing was different for every victim, Mary Anne was strangled, Carol had blunt force trauma, and Randy also had head injuries alongside with stabbing. The defense tried to claim that the murders had to have been done by different killers because they had different methods of killing.

Speaker 0

However, this argument really did not stand up in trial. And after a month long trial, the jury deliberated for almost twenty two hours. And on 10/18/1991, the verdict was in, and George Russell was found guilty of all three murders and was sentenced to two life sentences plus twenty nine years without the possibility of parole. George Russell is currently being incarcerated at the Column Bay Correction Center where he will carry out the rest of his life sentences and ultimately die in prison for the murders that he committed. And that, you guys, is the case of George Russell.

Speaker 0

It is also the case of the murders of Mary Anne, Carol, and Randy. And I am very interested to hear what you guys have to say about this. My main question and my main takeaway when I was researching George and I was thinking about all of this and really seeing his crime, it really made me wonder if these three victims were the only three victims. It's interesting to see someone who goes to such great lengths, someone who commits such overkill, someone who is staging his victims in a very certain type of way. It definitely made me wonder if there are more victims than we know of, but I'm very interested to hear what you guys have to say about this case.
