What was it like the lore of going from reality to scripted?

Like, no one at that point had really done that.

And now people go reality to scripted all the time or reality to a different show or reality to Broadway.

But at the time it was like Hollywood was not interested in you if you had been on a reality show.

I'll never forget that first acting class that I walked into and and they sit you down in front of the class and they want you to explain everything about yourself.

And people are asking questions.

And they can ask anything and they just keep going and going.

And I'm already reluctant to share the MTV reality show of it all in this environment, but of course it went there very fast.

I was hyper aware of the stigma to reality TV at that time, and of course looked down upon.

It was gonna be the deathbed of the art for scripted.

I understood it.

Obviously, you've got something that's already hard to get gigs in the industry and there's only so many opportunities, and now media is being There's this overwhelming wave of just unscripted coming in.

People are going to be upset about it.

I get it.

And so, knew it was going to be tough, but for me, again, I'm kind of a masochist, I guess, in that way.

The challenge I knew was something that would hurt for many years, and people would not take me seriously.

But I felt just like it was going to be my mission because I already knew that I was being presented one way by MTV, and I look forward to showing people who I really am or what I was really about.

I think I just wanted to take it on.

It's one of those things in life where you kind of keep taking steps, and if it's feeling right and you're getting those green lights, if you will, not to quote a Matthew McConaughey novel here, but I kept enjoying the process and wanting to do more.

Going onto One Tree Hill, of course, 100 a more times than walking into that first acting class was stepping onto the set of One Tree Hill.

I was very aware of the success of the show, looked up to everyone on it, and just hoped that they were going give me a shot to prove what I was about.

Thankfully, everyone there was very kind.

I had done a movie with Hilary Burton, and that was massive as well.

First day, we didn't actually work together in the beginning, but she took me out to dinner and she brought the call sheet and flipped it over and was like, You memorize all these people's names, the whole crew, everyone on the back, taught me a few things that I still take to this day.

还有像李·诺里斯这样的人，一见面就特别亲切，从房车里出来，伸出手来跟我打招呼，确保我感到自在。

And then people like Lee Norris, who was so sweet right away, just popping out of his trailer and opening his hand to me, just wanting to say hello and make sure I felt comfortable.

Sophia Bush took me under her wing right away and made sure I was comfortable.

我和她拍了很多场戏，每天至少要请她和我对一百遍台词，但她总是那么宽容和耐心，每次都愿意陪我练习。

I was doing a lot of scenes with her and I must have asked her to run lines with me 100 times every day, but she was so gracious and patient with me and did that.

So, know, look, I am so grateful for that opportunity.

It was something I wanted so bad.

I just did a couple episodes, and then I told them, I'd love to keep coming back.

And it was a pivotal moment for me because you can take all these acting classes and study and do stuff on your own, but there's nothing like being on a set when you gotta hit those marks don't block someone's light and still deliver something interesting, that was where I learned a lot.

That's where I learned the most.

So, yeah, I really look back fondly on that time in my life.

It was so good.

I miss it.

What was one thing, like, One Tree Hill was airing, I'm sure that you were getting so many other offers, because people don't want to give you a job unless you already have a job in Hollywood.

Was there anything that you turned down that you absolutely regret that you were getting offered at that time?

拍完《交易者》之后，我想了想，我不觉得后悔。

After doing Traders, I think and I wouldn't say I regret it.

实际上，我现在回想起来，确实有一些遗憾。

I actually look back and Well, there's some.

我对自己的工作选择变得非常严格。

I got very strict on what I was doing.

我没有放松一点，去承担更多风险。

I didn't loosen up a little bit and take some more risks.

It was very narrow, the decision making at that time.

我觉得，如果我想被认真对待，被理解为一个尊重表演艺术、希望保持非剧本化的人，但还在到处参加各种真人秀，那就不妙了。

I felt like to be taken seriously and understood as somebody who respects the craft and wants to be unscripted, if I'm still running around doing a bunch of reality shows, that would not be good.

And there were stuff like, you look back and there was a random appearance on Here's a funny blending of lines.

I got an offer to judge Sweden's Next Top Model.

And when you tell my friends this, they're like, What is wrong with you?

You had an offer to go to Sweden for a couple months and judge a modeling contest?

I was like, Guys, you don't understand.

他们问：‘他们想让你做什么？’

And they're like, What would they want you to do?

Well, they wanted me to be an acting coach.

他们想让我教他们一些表演技巧。

They wanted me to teach some of them how to act.

我认为，如果你真的想转型，那就去吧。

And I think the idea of, Okay, make the transition if you wanted to.

对我来说，刚从《拉古纳》出来，又接了几个演戏的活儿，虽然才刚开始，但觉得凭这点资历就去干那事，还自以为是，简直是愚蠢的决定。

And again, for me, coming off of Laguna and then getting a couple acting gigs, still just getting started, but proving nothing for me to go and do that and think that I was something was a terrible call in my mind at that time.

但现在回头看，我觉得那其实也没什么大不了的。

But I look back on that now, I was like, it would have been harmless.

那可能会很有趣。

It could have been fun.

那时候《与星共舞》也快要开播了。

Dancing with the Stars was coming around that time as well.

Actually, we were talking about Chelsea Cain, she eventually did it.

And I give her a lot of credit because I had turned it down years prior and told her, was like, I mean, you've got a pretty established acting career going.

And she was like, I'm gonna I'm gonna do it.

I felt like I still had a pretty regular dating experience than most.

A lot of it's a mess, but thankfully, we've been spit out the other side and we've found a lovely wife and we're more happy than we've ever been.

Not without as trials and tribulations of dating as we've all been through, I did go single for a while before Alex and I started dating.
