So what have you been doing?

Well, I recently been to the beach.

我回去看望父母，他们住得离海边很近。

I went to my to visit my parents, and they live quite close to the beach.

所以大概就是这个原因，我看起来和感觉都特别放松。

So that's probably why I I look and feel very relaxed.

海边啊。

The beach.

Well, we are talking about the beach today.

贝卡，当你去海滩玩的时候，是喜欢晒太阳吗？就是躺在沙滩上什么也不做。

Okay, Becca, when you have a beach day, do you like to sunbathe, which means lying on the beach in the sun doing nothing?

还是更喜欢做点活跃的事，比如游泳？很多人在海滩上运动，就是这类活动。

Or do you prefer to do something active like swimming, people often play sports on the beach, that kind of thing?

我很喜欢晒太阳，但英国阳光不多，温度也常常不太适合晒太阳。

I do love to sunbathe, but we don't have a lot of sun in The UK, and the temperatures aren't always the best for sunbathing.

不过我还是特别享受这个过程。

But it's still something I really enjoy doing.

我会晒一会儿太阳。

I'll sunbathe for a little bit.

先在太阳底下晾着，等热得差不多了，就去游泳凉快一下。

I'll kind of, I'll cook under the sun and then I'll go for a swim to cool down.

是的，我更喜欢轻松一点的活动。

Yeah, I prefer more relaxing activities.

我知道有些人喜欢打沙滩排球，也有人喜欢沿着海岸线长时间散步。

I know some people enjoy like beach volleyball or some people like long, long coastal walks.

但我更倾向于待在一个地方，安安静静地放松。

But yeah, I prefer kind of just staying in one one spot and relaxing there.

How about you?

我更喜欢在海滩上做些活跃的活动，比如游泳。

I prefer to do something active at the beach, swimming.

我喜欢打沙滩足球、沙滩板球，哦。

I like to play beach football, beach cricket Oh.

随便什么吧。

Whatever.

如果我躺着晒太阳，我喜欢读本书。

And if I am lying or sunbathing, I like to read a book.

但有点不舒服。

But it's a bit uncomfortable.

确实可能。

It can be.

确实会不舒服。

It can be uncomfortable.

是的。

Yeah.

你刚才提到你喜欢在沙滩上做些运动。

Also, you mentioned that you like playing some sports on the beach.

我猜在布满鹅卵石的沙滩上运动应该挺难的。

I imagine it can be quite difficult to play sports on a pebbly beach.

对。

Mhmm.

鹅卵石是小石头，跟沙质沙滩完全不一样。

Pebbles are small stones and very different to sandy beaches.

沙滩沙子比较软，我觉得打沙滩足球或沙滩板球会容易一些。

Sandy is quite soft and I guess easier for beach football and beach cricket.

是的。

Yeah.

英国很多海滩都是鹅卵石滩，上面铺满石头，而不是沙子。

Lots of the beaches in The UK are pebble beaches with stones on them rather than sand.

没错，确实更难一些。

And, yes, it can be more difficult.

脚踩上去真的会很疼。

It can really hurt your feet.

有时候在鹅卵石海滩上，看到人们游完泳上岸，走路都一瘸一拐的，还挺滑稽的。

Sometimes it is quite funny on a pebbly beach to see people coming out of the sea from their swim and then kind of, you know, finding it quite difficult to walk along the beach.

确实挺有意思的。

It sometimes is quite funny.

那吃的呢？

How about food?

那你去海滩的时候会带野餐吗？

So do you take a picnic to the beach?

会的，有时候会。

Yeah, sometimes.

其实还有一个原因，我们刚才聊了碎石海滩，但我特别喜欢碎石海滩，因为在那儿野餐更方便。

Another reason actually, we talked about pebbly beaches, But I really love a pebble beach because it's easier to have a picnic on a pebble beach.

我不知道你有没有类似的经历，但每次我在沙滩上吃美味的野餐，最后总被沙子搞得一团糟。

I don't know about your own experiences, but every time I sit on a sandy beach with a lovely picnic, it always gets ruined by all of the sand.

没错。

Exactly.

最后吃出来的三明治都是硌牙的。

You end up with a kind of crunchy sandwich.

对啊。

Yeah.

满嘴沙子的三明治。

Sandy sandwiches.

满是沙子的三明治

Sandy sandy sandwich.

不好吃。

Not tasty.

所以我确实喜欢在海滩上野餐，但你也得注意选对地方，还得留意风向。

So I do love a picnic on the beach, but yeah, you do have to be careful about where you are and the wind as well.

没错。

Yes.

尤其是在英国。

Especially in The UK.

是啊。

Yeah.

那里风挺大的。

They're quite windy.

英国的风确实很大。

Very windy in The UK.

但世界上有好多美丽的海滩。

But the world is full of beautiful beaches.

你有没有去过哪个特别喜欢的海滩，留下过难忘的回忆？

Have you got a memory of a favorite beach you've been to somewhere?

有。

Yes.

我有很多美好的回忆。

I have beautiful memories.

最近最难忘的一次是去年二月在泰国，那时候英国又冷又下雨。

Probably the most recent and the most beautiful was when I was in Thailand last February, very cold and rainy in The UK.

所以我决定去泰国。

So I decided to go to Thailand.

我记得那天在海滩上看日落，头一回见到太阳这么红。

And I just remember seeing the sunset at the beach and I'd never seen the sun so red before.

简直太震撼了。

It was incredible.

所以当太阳落山，好像要沉到海平面以下的时候，那景象真是美得让人惊叹。

So when the sun is setting and it's kind of it looks like it's going below sea level at nighttime, just beautiful, stunning.

现在我们来回顾一下本期播客里学到的词汇，先从‘sunbathe’开始。

Time now to recap the vocabulary we've heard in this podcast, starting with sunbathe.

如果你去晒太阳，就是坐着或躺着享受阳光放松，但得小心别被晒伤了。

If you sunbathe, you sit or lie in the sunshine to relax, but you have to be careful in case you get burnt.

对。

Yes.

如果晒太久，你可能得想办法降降温。

And if you sunbathe for too long, you might need to cool down.

‘降降温’就是当你觉得太热时，做点什么让自己凉快下来。

To cool down means to do something to cool yourself when you're feeling too hot.

比如去游个泳。

You can do that by going for a swim.

‘去游个泳’字面上就是去游泳，但也可能只是指在水里放松一下。

To go for a swim is to literally go swimming, but it could also mean just to relax in the water.

我们之前聊了两种不同的海滩：鹅卵石海滩和沙滩。

We talked about two different kinds of beaches, pebble beaches and sandy beaches.

鹅卵石海滩上铺满了小石头。

Pebble beaches are covered in small, stones.

走在上面可能会有点不舒服。

They can be difficult to walk on.

沙滩则是由细沙组成的，沙子颗粒很细，走起来舒服多了。

A sandy beach is covered in sand, and sand is that fine grain, and it's much more comfortable to walk on.

最后，我们还提到了野餐。

And lastly, we mentioned picnics.

野餐就是在户外吃的一顿饭。

A picnic is a meal that you enjoy outside.
