I recently went to the dentist, and I had a very good clean at the dentist.

we're talking about the dentist today.

真的吗？

Oh, really?

We are, yes.

Do you like going to the dentist?

有谁会喜欢去看牙医呢？

Does anyone like going to the dentist?

有时候确实有点吓人。

It can be a bit scary sometimes.

你对牙医有什么看法？

How do you feel about the dentist?

我很久没去看过牙医了。

Well, I haven't been to the dentist for a long time.

你上次做牙科检查是什么时候？

When was the last time that you had a check up at the dentist?

检查就是让牙医看看你的牙齿。

A checkup is when you have your teeth looked at by the dentist.

我确实也有段时间没做检查了。

Well, I haven't had a checkup for a while.

但牙医说我的牙齿没什么问题。

But the dentist said my teeth were okay.

没什么毛病，牙也不疼，所以我感觉没必要去。

There were no problems and I don't have any toothache, so I don't feel like I need to go.

对，牙疼就是牙齿疼的意思。

Right, and a toothache is when you feel pain in your teeth.

是的。

Yeah.

你以前做过牙齿矫正吗？

Have you ever had anything done to your teeth?

做过，是的。

I have, yes.

我13岁的时候戴过牙套。

So when I was 13, I had braces put on my teeth.

牙套就是一种横跨牙齿的金属丝，戴它是为了让牙齿变得更整齐。

And so braces are kind of like a wire that go across your teeth and you have them done because they help to straighten your teeth.

我女儿以前也戴过牙套，大概一年前取下来的，我想是的。

My daughter had braces and they came off about a year ago, I think, yes.

哦。

Oh.

牙套摘掉的时候挺有意思的，孩子看起来完全不一样了。

It's funny when the braces come off because the kids look different.

You're used to seeing them with

It's also really lovely to see a straight smile

很多人其实不太喜欢看牙医，因为得去补牙。

Lots of people don't really like the dentist because they have to go in for a filling.

补牙是什么？

What's a filling?

补牙啊。

A filling.

我从来没补过牙。

I've never had one.

补牙就是牙医用某种材料把牙齿上的洞填上。

But a filling is when a dentist will fill a hole in your teeth with some kind of material.

通常来说，如果你饮食中糖分太多，这个洞会随着时间变得越来越大。

And usually that hole can get bigger over time if you, for example, have too much sugar in your diet.

我很惊讶自己从来没补过牙，毕竟我特别爱吃糖。

So I'm surprised that I've never needed a filling because I love sugar.

Have you ever had a filling?

我小时候乳牙蛀过，补过一次，乳牙也叫奶牙。

I had a filling in a baby tooth, and we sometimes call baby teeth milk teeth as well.

那是人一生中第一副牙齿，小时候会自然脱落。

Those are the first set of teeth you have that fall out when you're still very young.

但从那以后，我再也没补过牙。

But since then, I have never had a filling.

现在我们来回顾一下本期节目中出现的词汇，先从‘检查’说起。

Time now for a recap of the vocabulary that we heard in this episode, starting with checkup.

看牙检查就是你去牙医那里，让牙医检查一下牙齿的健康状况。

A checkup is when you go to the dentist for the dentist to check the health of your teeth.

对。

Yes.

我们还听到了‘牙疼’这个词。

And we also had toothache.

牙疼的时候，你就该去看牙医了。

Now you would go to the dentist when you have a toothache.

疼就是一种疼痛的感觉。

An ache is a pain.

所以牙疼就是牙齿疼。

So a toothache is a pain in your teeth.

我们还听到了‘补牙’这个词。

We also heard the word filling.

补牙就是把一种材料填进牙齿上的洞里，而牙齿出现洞，通常是因为没好好护理牙齿。

A filling is a piece of material which is put into a hole in your tooth and you get the hole in your tooth if you don't look after your teeth properly.

我们还戴过牙套，牙套是戴在牙齿上，帮助把牙齿矫正到正确位置的装置。

We also had braces and braces are something that you attach to your teeth to help put them in the correct position or straighten them.
