Speaker 1

我很好,谢谢,Feifei。

I'm very well, thank you, Feifei.

Speaker 2

谢谢你,Georgie。

Well, thank you, Georgie.

Speaker 2

是的,我换了。

Yes, I have.

Speaker 2

不过这个秘密我可不告诉你。

But that secret stays with me.

Speaker 2

什么?

What?

Speaker 2

别这么小气啊,Feifei,快说吧。

Come on, Feifei, don't Gatekeep.

Speaker 2

好吧,行吧。

Okay, fine.

Speaker 2

我最近在用椰子油抹头发。

I've been putting coconut oil on it.

Speaker 2

听说这样能保湿。

Apparently, it helps to moisturise.

Speaker 1

哦,真的吗?

Oh, wow.

Speaker 1

我以前还真没听说过这方法。

I've never heard of that.

Speaker 1

那我今晚就试试看。

Maybe I'll try it tonight.

Speaker 1

Feifei,这个节目里我们到底在学什么?

So Feifei, what are we learning in this programme?

Speaker 2

你刚才用了个挺有意思的词,叫‘gatekeep’。

You just used an interesting word, gatekeep.

Speaker 2

那咱们来学学这个词吧。

So let's learn that.

Speaker 1

好啊。

Great.

Speaker 1

‘Gatekeep’是个动词,意思是控制别人接触某样东西的权限。

Well, gatekeep is a verb which means you control access to something.

Speaker 1

这个词原本来自大门紧闭、阻止进入的意象,但现在大多用在比喻意义上。

Now it comes from the idea of a closed gate blocking access, but it's used mostly in a metaphorical sense.

Speaker 1

指的是你故意不让人了解某件事,或者不让人参与进来。

It means you deliberately stop someone from understanding something or joining in.

Speaker 2

对。

Yes.

Speaker 2

所以当我都不告诉你我头发上涂了什么,我就是在藏私房话。

So when I wouldn't tell you what I used on my hair, I was gatekeeping the secret.

Speaker 2

这个词在网上经常用。

This word is often used on the internet.

Speaker 1

确实如此。

It is.

Speaker 1

比如,我见过很多美妆博主用这个词。

For example, I've seen lots of beauty influencers using it.

Speaker 1

他们会说,我一直在用一款超棒的面霜,让皮肤特别柔软。

They'll say things like, I've been using this amazing cream that makes my skin so soft.

Speaker 1

别担心,我不藏私。

Don't worry, I don't gatekeep.

Speaker 1

然后他们就会把产品说出来。

And then they'll reveal the product.

Speaker 2

藏私这种行为通常被认为挺负面的。

Gatekeeping is seen as quite negative.

Speaker 2

它经常被用来把别人挡在某个社群或粉丝圈之外。

It's often used to keep others out of a community or fandom.

Speaker 2

我们来听几个例子。

Let's listen to some examples.

Speaker 3

我朋友不让我其他朋友玩一款规则很多的桌游,说他们新手玩不来,我就让他别这么藏私。

My friend wouldn't let my other friends play a board game with lots of rules because they're beginners and I told him to stop gatekeeping.

Speaker 0

我朋友老跟我聊她去的那家超棒的餐厅,可就是不肯告诉我地址。

My friend's talking about this amazing restaurant she went to, but she won't tell me where it is.

Speaker 0

她在藏这地方呢。

She's gate keeping it.

Speaker 0

我家人老问我秘制烤鸡的做法,但我就是不告诉他们。

My family's always asking me for my secret roast chicken recipe, but I'm gatekeeping that.

Speaker 0

这是我的独家秘诀。

That's my secret.

Speaker 2

所以,'gatekeeping' 这个词常被用在互联网上,批评别人故意不分享信息。

So gatekeeping is a word often used on the Internet to criticize people for withholding information.

Speaker 2

乔治亚,我们该怎么用这个词呢?

Georgie, how do we use it?

Speaker 1

gatekeep 是个很常见的动词。

Well, gatekeep is a typical verb.

Speaker 1

它可以单独使用。

It can be used on its own.

Speaker 1

比如,别藏着掖着。

For example, don't gatekeep.

Speaker 1

它后面可以跟一个名词。

It can be followed by a noun.

Speaker 1

她把食谱藏着不给,动名词形式就是别藏着掖着。

She's gatekeeping the recipe and in the gerund form, stop gatekeeping.

Speaker 2

明白了。

Okay.

Speaker 2

我们来总结一下。

Let's recap.

Speaker 2

我们学了 'gatekeep' 这个词,意思是通过不让人参与来控制信息的获取。

We learnt the word gatekeep, which means control access to something by keeping others out.

Speaker 1

感谢你的参与。

Thanks for joining us.

Speaker 1

再见。

Goodbye.

Bye bye.
