This is this is, of course, the big question and also the main part of our investment philosophy.
And so so we believe, and and it's it's pretty obvious if if you look at the data.
So we live in an aging society that needs ever more debt to keep growing.
So, if you take this also the nice example, a lot of people see China as some kind of growth miracle.
But if you look at their labor force, it's shrinking even faster than in Japan, in Germany, than in micro and US.
So, aging is a negative for GDP growth.
Nobody accepts that.
Nobody wins elections by saying this is the case.
So what do all these politicians and policymakers do?
They accumulate more debt to continue to keep growing because otherwise, this whole aging part will literally eat your economy away.
Now, this means that that is now the main engine of GDP growth in general, even for a country like China.
And that means that the question is not how are we going to grow faster?
How are we going to use our means better that people have a better life, more wealth, whatever?
No, the question is how do we make sure that this debt driven growth model does not fall apart?
And then the rules of the game change because then you see, and you see that in practice, and August was an example of that.
Then you see that policymakers will make decisions not based on inflation levels, not based on unemployment per se, but on debt sustainability as we call it.
Now, how can you create debt sustainability?
First, as a government, you can spend less.
Well, that is not possible as we've seen.
You can raise taxes, but only to a certain amount.
And then people, and this is a hot topic, especially now in The Netherlands with the new proposed tax on wealth gains.
Lot of people will in the end move somewhere else where capital is taxed less.
So, then you need a very straightforward trick, and that is increase inflation because that inflates away the nominal debt levels, and push down interest rates when they go too high, because low interest rates increase the affordability of debt, and inflation erases part of that debt.
So if you believe that interest rates on average in the longer run will be low or lower, this is a definition question, and inflation will be high or higher, again, whatever, so higher than the 2% that central banks officially target, then you have a very nasty mix of low interest rates and high inflation.
So why would I save if I don't have to?
Why would I buy bonds?
Because they will lose purchasing power.
And that is your whole chimpanzee.
A lot of people think that French will default or The United States will default.
They won't, but that is exactly the problem.
They will print money to push down interest rates, creating inflation, and you with your money in the bank or your debts or bonds in your pension fund are literally paying the price.
So that is we don't like it.
I think we don't believe in doom scenarios, but this is the way financial system works.
And I don't want to hold assets that will 90%, 90% sure lose purchasing power because the whole idea of investing is grow or at least protect purchasing power.
Grow or protect your pie.
But that's exactly right.
I mean, that's what a lot of people don't get, you know, because they think just in nominal terms and nominally like your 10,000 Euro or 100,000 Euro on in your bank account still remain the same.
But then like in real terms, these things against other goods, like the real goods and assets, the hard assets, the sound money assets that you mentioned against these, they definitely lose real purchasing power.
And that's I think where it needs to click still with a lot of people.
It does ever more and I think topics like Bitcoin, you know, have helped in the in the recent years, but it's still something that needs to kinda where the penny needs to drop for many people.
You mentioned the thing with the capital gains tax, know, or wealth tax.
Like, I don't know.
Can you elaborate on this a little?
因为我
Because I
觉得
think like
there's also happening in other countries, these discussions.
And I feel like in Europe, were a lot of discussions about like a transactional tax, you know, where at some point every equity transaction would be taxed.
I think it's not the case yet, but they will probably come up with different taxes at some point because they have to.

As mentioned in a debt driven world, raising taxes is one of the options to lower the budget deficits, for example.
And then, of course, it's a choice of how to do that.
You see, in The Netherlands, we have a capital gain tax when realized of 36%.
So that is really, really high.
For example, Belgium, our neighbor, it's 10% on some parts of the portfolio.
So, that is one thing.
So, 36% is already pretty massive, right?
And basically, they messed up the whole system, how to collect that tax.
Then there was a judge that says, You cannot do that like this anymore.
They had to change.
And the only thing in The Netherlands is that the total amount of tax income cannot go down.
That is the literal focus of policymakers.
Now, what are doing now is they say, okay, we are going to introduce this tax for when realize gains for most of your portfolio, but for Bitcoin and physical gold, not.
So if you buy a Bitcoin ETF or gold ETF, you get taxed when you realize that gain.
But if you hold it in a fold in Switzerland, so you have the real thing, then you get taxed every year on paper gains.
So there's now this massive outcry that why are you discriminating between different assets, and also to those assets where the actual ownership is crucial.
So yeah, I can imagine that the crypto industry and the gold industry, they're really angry, and I can understand why.
So there's the thing.
And then you have the unrealized gains.
So the paper gains are taxed.
That means you literally disrupt the compounding effect because you have to sell.
If you're fully invested, you have to sell some of your Bitcoin or whatever gold to to pay for those taxes.
And that is also what I find interesting that compounding is the same for everyone.
If you invest with a €100 or for 10,000,000, the compounding is what helps you preserve purchasing power in the long run.
And my government has decided to brutally intervene in that compounding effect because they have to have 4,000,000,000 of tax income from this side every year.
So, it's really stupid because you cannot calculate on it because it also depends on markets.
But now you have these two worlds.
So, paper gains and realized gains.
And now the question, of course, is, is it a coincidence that Bitcoin and gold are left outside the realized gain part?
And of course, this raises a lot of questions.
But this is now what is happening.
So 36% is disturbingly high.
And now you also have the two kinds of tax systems, and then Bitcoin and gold are on the wrong end of the tax system, so to say.
