This is just a quick message to say hello to everyone and to let you know that I'm going on holiday for about five days.

I'm going to Spain, Alicante in the South Of Spain to go rock climbing with some friends.

So I'll be on holiday for a few days, which means that I won't be uploading another full podcast for about another week.

I've got one prepared.

So I'll load that up when I get back from my holiday.

It was my birthday yesterday, and I had a little celebration down next to the river in a pub, which is close to my house.

And some of my friends came and joined me, we had a few drinks and and stuff, and that was really great fun.

我现在有两周的工作假期。

And I'm on holiday from work for two weeks now.

And so five of those days will be spent in Spain rock climbing.

Now, I thought that just to give you something to listen to and to enjoy and to study while you wait for the next podcast, I would play you a little comedy clip.

The the comedy clip that I'm gonna play you is by a comedy group from The UK called Monty Python's Flying Circus.

你们可能听说过他们。

Now you might have heard of them.

Let's see.

Probably the most famous member of the group is John Cleese.

And John Cleese is an actor who he's he was in some James Bond movies as Q, the guy who gives James Bond all of his machines and weapons and things.

And he's also in a very successful comedy called Faulty Towers, which is probably the most famous thing that he's ever done.

But Monty Python's Flying Circus was a group of comedians who came out of ox Oxford and Cambridge universities joined together to make one of the best and one of the most influential comedy programs on the television here in in The UK.

Everyone knows Monty Python and everyone loves them here.

They're very, very popular.

So I'm going to play you a little comedy scene that they did.

They performed it live at the Drury Lane Theatre in, I think, 1974.

The title of this sketch is called the four Yorkshire men.

约克郡人就是来自约克郡的人。

Now a Yorkshire man is just a man who comes from Yorkshire.

约克郡是英格兰北部的一个地区。

Yorkshire is an area in the North Of England.

明白吗？

Okay?

基本上，这个小品的喜剧效果或者说笑点在于，这四个约克郡人坐在一起的情景。

And basically, the the the kind of comedy or the funny part of this sketch is, well, the fact that these four Yorkshire men basically are sitting together.

你可以想象，他们坐在一起喝着非常昂贵的葡萄酒，因为他们现在很有钱。

If you can imagine, they're sitting together drinking some very expensive wine because now they're they're rich.

懂了吗？

Okay?

他们现在年迈且富有，但过去并非如此。

They're old and rich now, but they didn't used to be rich.

当他们还是孩子和成长过程中，都过着极其艰难的生活，都是必须拼命工作的工人阶级，历经艰辛才得以致富。

When they were when they were children and when they were growing up, they all had very, very difficult lives, and they're all working class men who had to work very, very hard in a difficult life in order to get rich.

这类老人的特点之一就是聚在一起时，总会谈论过去生活多么艰难，而现在的年轻人多么轻松。

So one of the things about this is that when old men like that get together, they always talk about how hard their lives were in the past and how it's really easy for young people nowadays.

明白吗？

Okay?

这类人通常会说些诸如'现在的孩子身在福中不知福'之类的话。

And typically, men like that will say things like, you know, the kids of today don't know they're born.

他们的生活比我们当年容易多了。

Life is much easier for them than it was for us.

对吧？

Right?

他们就是身在福中不知福。

They just don't know they're born.

或者举个例子，如果你告诉他们年轻人他们过去的生活有多艰难，他们可能会说，你跟现在的孩子们讲这些，他们根本不会相信。

Or for example, if you if they've told a younger person how difficult their lives were, they they might say things like, you tell you tell the kids of today that and they won't believe you.

对吧？

Right?

所以这算是老人们在抱怨过去生活多么艰难、而年轻人现在的生活相比之下多么轻松时，常说的典型话题。

So it's kind of typical things that old men say when they're complaining about how their lives were very hard in the past and how young people's lives now are very easy in comparison.

他们的对话内容就是不断回忆年轻时生活多么艰苦，描述成长过程中不得不面对的恶劣生存条件。

And the conversation that they have is they they talk about how when they were when they were younger, their lives were so hard, and they describe the difficult conditions that they had to live in when they were growing up.

但随着讨论深入，这就像变成了一场竞赛，因为他们都要描述出更艰难的生活经历。

But as they all talk about it, it becomes like a competition because they all have to describe a much harder life.

比如一个人说，他当年喝茶时因为没通电，只能喝冷茶。

So if one says that he had to for example, when he drank tea because they had no electricity, he had to drink cold tea.

另一个人就会说：'你这算走运了'。

And the other one would say, you were lucky.

冷茶？

Cold tea?

你算走运了。

You were lucky.

我们那时候只能喝卷成报纸的脏水。

We used to have to drink old water out of a rolled up newspaper.

对吧？

Right?

所以他们试图说明自己当年生活更艰苦，就像在比赛一样。

So they're they're kind of trying to explain that they had much harder lives, and it's like a competition.

总之我觉得特别好笑。

There were a 150 of us living in shoebox in middle of a road.

We lived for three months in a paper bag in a septic tank.

我们那时每天早晨六点就得起床，打扫纸袋，啃一块发霉的面包皮，然后去磨坊干14小时活，一周接一周，一个月要干六周。

We used to have a girl up at six in the morning, clean the paper bag, eat a crust of stale bread, go to worked out mill fourteen hours a day, week in, week out for six months a week.

And when we got home, our dad would trash us to sleep with his belt.

那都是奢侈日子了。

And when we got home, our dad and our mother would kill us and dance about in our grave singing Hallelujah.

你要是跟现在的年轻人说这些，他们根本不会信。

And you try and tell the young people of today that, and they won't believe you.

他们就是不信。

They won't.
