Good evening, good afternoon, or good morning, or maybe even good night, ladies and gentlemen.

Speaker 0

欢迎来到卢克的英语播客。

Welcome to Luke's English podcast.

Speaker 0

这可能是您一生中听过最吓人的一集——说实话,真的有可能。

This, could potentially be the most frightening episode of, well, frankly, anything that you've ever listened to in your whole life.

Speaker 0

我现在是认真的。

I'm I'm being quite serious now.

Speaker 0

在听这一集之前,你最好再三考虑一下。

You you might want to just think twice before listening to this episode.

Speaker 0

如果你容易紧张,性格敏感,我建议你先做好一切准备,确保自己感觉安全、安心、完全放松之后,再开始听这一集。

If you're sensitive, if you have a nervous disposition, I recommend that you just take all necessary steps to make sure that you're feeling safe and protected and completely comfortable and at ease before listening to this episode of the podcast.

Speaker 0

这一集讲的是鬼魂、怪事、无法解释的现象、恶魔,还有夜里莫名其妙的响动。

This episode is all about ghosts, strange things, the unexplained, demons, and things that go bump in the night.

Speaker 0

我要说的是超自然现象、鬼魂、幻影、幽灵、灵魂、闹鬼现象、各种神秘怪事——这些内容,你一个人在家过夜时,根本不想听到。

I'm talking about the paranormal, ghosts, phantasms, specters, spirits, poltergeists, unexplained phenomena, and all that kind of weird stuff that you don't really want to hear about when you're alone in the house at night.

Speaker 0

希望你现在不是一个人,因为这可能是《卢克英语播客》迄今为止最吓人的一集。

I hope you're not alone right now because this could be the creepiest episode of Luke's English podcast so far.

Speaker 0

这可能会非常吓人。

It could be very scary.

Speaker 0

为了让你安心一点,我建议你抱个泰迪熊,或者躲到枕头后面。

So to help you feel okay, I suggest that you maybe get a teddy bear to hold onto or a pillow to hide behind.

Speaker 0

把门都关上。

Close the doors.

Speaker 0

把窗帘拉上。

Close the curtains.

Speaker 0

别看镜子,一直开着灯。

Don't look in the mirror, and keep the light on at all times.

Speaker 0

如果这样让你安心,可以点根蜡烛——传统上说,火焰能驱邪避煞。

You could burn a candle if that makes you feel better as traditionally, it's said that a flame can protect you from evil spirits.

Speaker 0

最好有人陪着你一起听这个。

Ideally, you should listen to this with some other people around you.

Speaker 0

据说,亡灵和恶魔会被 paranormal 的故事吸引过来。

People say that undead spirits and demons can be attracted by accounts of paranormal activity.

Speaker 0

一说起鬼魂,好像就把鬼的世界拉近了,有时候甚至真能把灵体招到你这边来。

If someone talks about ghosts, it brings the world of ghosts closer to you, apparently, and in some cases, can attract spirits into your world.

Speaker 0

如果你听的时候感觉周围有异常,干脆别听了,开灯,去厨房冰箱拿点喝的,把那些吓人的念头全赶走。

So if you notice anything strange going on around you while you're listening to this, I suggest that you simply stop listening, turn on the lights, maybe get a drink from the fridge in the kitchen, and just put all scary thoughts out of your mind.

Speaker 0

我自己不信鬼神,但谁知道黑暗里到底藏着什么呢?

I don't believe in ghosts and, the paranormal myself, but who knows what is really out there in the darkness?

Speaker 0

在这期节目里,我要讲几个特别吓人又离奇的故事,这些要么是我自己想出来的,要么是真实发生在我身上的事。

In this episode, I'm going to tell you some very scary and strange stories, which I've thought of or which are completely real and actually happened to me.

Speaker 0

我想知道你怎么看。

I wonder what you think.

Speaker 0

你相信有鬼吗?

Do you believe in ghosts?

Speaker 0

你觉得这个世界真的可能被我们平时看不见的灵体或其他生物造访吗?

Do you think it's really possible that our world could be visited by spirits or other beings that we don't normally see?

Speaker 0

你心里大概已经想好了答案:不可能,我猜。

The answer you're probably thinking of is no, I expect.

Speaker 0

不可能,卢克。

No, Luke.

Speaker 0

不可能。

No.

Speaker 0

这太荒唐了。

That's ridiculous.

Speaker 0

根本就没有鬼这种东西。

There are no such thing as ghosts.

Speaker 0

我其实不太信鬼,但挺喜欢听鬼故事的。

I don't really believe in them, but I do quite enjoy listening to ghost stories.

Speaker 0

不过总的来说,我是不信鬼的。

But no, generally speaking, I don't believe in ghosts.

Speaker 0

我觉得凡事都有合理的解释,我也挺认同这个观点的。

I think there's probably a rational explanation for everything, and I kind of agree with that.

Speaker 0

你有没有遇到过特别奇怪、完全说不清的事?一认真琢磨,不躲开它,就会吓得够呛?

But have you ever experienced something really strange which you can't really explain and which when you really think about it without ignoring it, it actually makes you very frightened.

Speaker 0

说实话,我自己也经历过一些特别诡异、说不明白的事,我都不太敢想,一想就有点毛骨悚然。

Now to tell you the truth, I have had some pretty strange experiences myself that I can't explain and that I don't like to think about very much because it sort of freaks me out a bit.

Speaker 0

我觉得自己是个挺理性的人。

Personally, I consider myself to be quite a rational person.

Speaker 0

我不信鬼,但我相信这世上还有我们目前无法理解的东西。

I don't really believe in ghosts, but I do believe there are things in the world that we don't understand yet.

Speaker 0

我们不该总是把无法解释的现象直接归因于超自然或灵异力量,但与此同时,我也知道这个世界还有很多我们根本不懂、甚至看不见的东西。

I don't think we should always conclude that unexplained things are the result of supernatural or paranormal causes, but at the same time, I know that there are plenty of things about the world that we don't really understand and can't even see.

Speaker 0

就连科学领域里,也有大量未解之谜,科学家们现在正努力寻找答案。

Even in science, there are many mysteries, massive puzzles that scientists are trying to work out even right now.

Speaker 0

量子物理、我们对时间和空间的基本认知、宇宙的起源与归宿、平行世界、其他维度,还有鬼魂是否就生活在我们身边,甚至栖息在我们家里的某个角落或窗外。

Quantum physics, our basic understanding of time and space, the origins or the destiny of the universe, parallel worlds, other dimensions, the possibility of ghosts living around us, or even inhabiting certain spaces in our homes or even outside our windows.

Speaker 0

这些对我们来说,全都是未解之谜。

These are all areas of mystery to us.

Speaker 0

五百年前的人们,对很多事情根本一无所知。

Five hundred years ago, people were relatively clueless.

Speaker 0

那时候的人觉得地球是平的,头疼是邪灵作祟,抽烟居然还被认为对身体有益。

People thought the world was flat, that headaches were caused by evil spirits, and that tobacco was actually good for you.

Speaker 0

这些想法现在看来,全都是错的。

All of those things are completely wrong.

Speaker 0

错得离谱,真的,错得一塌糊涂。

Like, totally wrong, you know, like massively wrong.

Speaker 0

这些可是相当重大的错误啊。

These are quite big things to get wrong, in fact.

Speaker 0

想想看,我们如今自以为知道的东西,会不会也一样是错的呢?

Imagine if we are similarly wrong about what we know now.

Speaker 0

这完全有可能,对吧?

It's quite possible, isn't it?

Speaker 0

五百年前的人,大概也对自己的信念深信不疑。

I mean, back five hundred years ago, people were probably quite sure of their beliefs.

Speaker 0

可结果呢?全都被证明是错的。

Why but they all turned out to be wrong.

Speaker 0

那为什么我们现在的看法,就不会是同样的情况呢?

So why can't the same b k why can't the same case be true for our beliefs now?

Speaker 0

也许我们对很多事情的理解,全都是错的。

Maybe we're all wrong about about so many things.

Speaker 0

也许我们对世界的认知,才刚刚开始而已。

Maybe we've only just scratched the surface of knowledge about the world.

Speaker 0

我们不知道的东西,可能远远不止这些。

There could be so much more that we don't realize.

Speaker 0

比如人死后会发生什么?灵魂真的存在吗?它会不会在我们死后继续存在?

Answers to the questions of what happens to us after we die, is there such a thing as the soul, and does it live on separately from us?

Speaker 0

会不会有其他我们看不见的隐形世界,里面住着恶魔或灵体,就在我们身边?

Are there other invisible worlds full of demons or spirits living around us that we can't see?

Speaker 0

如果我们无意中做了某些事,会不会无意中打扰或激怒这些灵体?

Is it possible for us to disturb these spirits or upset them by doing things wrong without realizing it?

Speaker 0

正如我所说,我并不真信鬼魂或超自然现象,因为我需要证据才能相信。

As I said, I don't really believe in ghosts or the paranormal because I require evidence for these things.

Speaker 0

但还是有一些事,我完全没法解释。

But still, there are things that I just can't explain.

Speaker 0

说实话,有时候这真让人有点害怕。

And to be honest, that is a bit frightening sometimes.

Speaker 0

我经历过一些事,到现在想起来还觉得毛骨悚然。

There are things I've experienced that have freaked me out and continue to bother my memory today.

Speaker 0

有时候这些回忆真会让我有点害怕。

Sometimes these memories make me a little bit scared.

Speaker 0

可能听起来有点吓人,但我还是想在这期播客里跟你们说说这些事。

Maybe it will be creepy, but I'm going to share those things with you in this podcast episode.

Speaker 0

我会跟你们讲几个真实的故事,不是编出来的。

I'm going to tell you some stories, but some real ones, not made up ones.

Speaker 0

我待会儿讲的这些,都是我亲身经历过的。

The stories I'm going to tell you are all ones that I've experienced personally.

Speaker 0

不是那种给孩子讲的童话故事,完全不是。

They're not fictional bedtime stories for children or anything.

Speaker 0

不是。

No.

Speaker 0

也不是什么逗小孩的有趣故事。

They're not fun stories for kids.

Speaker 0

这些都是我过去不同时间里遇到的真实怪事,挺吓人的。

They're real accounts of some weird and scary stuff that has happened to me at various times.

Speaker 0

现在我很少跟朋友或家人聊这些事。

I don't talk about these kinds of things very often with my friends or family these days.

Speaker 0

他们说听了会觉得有点不舒服。

They say it makes them feel a bit uncomfortable.

Speaker 0

很多人不太喜欢自己的世界被奇怪又无法解释的事情打乱。

A lot of people don't really like their world to be challenged by strange and unexplained things.

Speaker 0

他们宁愿不去想那些自己搞不懂、或者让人不安的事。

They'd rather not think a lot about things that they don't really understand or things which are disturbing.

Speaker 0

但有时候我睡不着,就会想起那些奇怪的经历,还是让我挺害怕的。

But sometimes, I can't sleep, and I think of weird things I've experienced, and they still make me quite scared.

Speaker 0

不过这些事对我来说也很吸引人,所以我想跟你分享一下。

But they're quite fascinating to me too, so I thought I would share these experiences with you.

Speaker 0

也许你能解释这些现象,或者你也有过类似的经历。

Maybe you can explain them, or maybe you've experienced similar things.

Speaker 0

有些人可能会说,我不该公开谈论这些事,怕吓到别人,甚至会把灵体吸引到听节目的人家里。

Some people might say that I shouldn't talk about these kinds of things publicly or share them because I could scare people or even attract spirits into the homes of people who are listening to this.

Speaker 0

我不太确定,但我建议你认真听这一集。

I'm not sure about that, but I'd like to suggest that you listen rather carefully to this episode.

Speaker 0

如果你容易受惊,那听之前最好三思。

If you're easily scared, then just think twice before listening to this.

Speaker 0

可能会让你心里发毛。

It might disturb you.

Speaker 0

睡觉前别听这个。

Don't listen just before you go to bed.

Speaker 0

如果房间很暗,就把灯关了,这样你才能看清周围的一切。

Turn off the lights if you're in a dark room so that you can see everything.

Speaker 0

把衣柜和暗房间的门都关好,免得听的时候胡思乱想,觉得里面有人等着你。

Close cupboard doors or doors to dark rooms so that you don't get scared when you imagine that something or someone is waiting in there while you listen to this.

Speaker 0

如果你没那么怕,不妨看看床底下或者沙发后面,有时候光是想着那儿有东西在盯着你、等着你,就够让人不安的了。

If you're not too scared, try to have a look under the bed or behind the sofa because sometimes you can be very disturbed by the thought that there is something or someone there watching you and waiting.

Speaker 0

别去想象黑影,也别觉得身边有人,不然你的脑子会自己吓自己。

Try not to imagine dark shapes or the idea that there is a person with you because your mind will play tricks on you.

Speaker 0

如果是晚上,房间里又有窗户,赶紧拉上窗帘,把窗户关严实,别总担心外面有什么东西想溜进来,也别怕突然看见窗外有张脸一闪而过。

If it's nighttime and there are windows in your room, just quickly close the curtains and make sure that the windows are sealed so that you don't worry about things that are outside trying to get inside, and so you don't worry about seeing a face appearing in the window even just for a moment.

Speaker 0

关上窗户或拉上窗帘会让你安心些,至少你看不见外面到底有什么。

Closing windows or closing curtains will make you feel more comfortable because you won't be able to see whatever is out there.

Speaker 0

就算外面真有什么,它也看不到你。

And if there is something out there, it won't be able to see you either.

Speaker 0

关窗的时候要小心点。

Just be careful when you close the windows.

Speaker 0

动作快一点,别往外面的黑暗里张望。

Do it quickly, and don't look out of the window into the darkness.

Speaker 0

如果你没那么害怕,可以快速检查一下家里空着的房间。

Quickly check empty rooms in your house if you aren't too scared.

Speaker 0

当你觉得家里不止你一个人的时候,真的会吓人一跳。

It can really freak you out when you get the feeling that you're not alone in your own home.

Speaker 0

说不定另一个房间里正藏着什么人,或者什么东西,而且已经待了很久,你却一点都没察觉。

And there's something or someone maybe in another room, and maybe they've been there for some time without you knowing it.

Speaker 0

所以如果你能的话,赶紧在房子里四周看看,上楼或下楼,去那些空房间走一趟,这样心里会踏实一点,听我讲话时也不会太害怕。

So if you can, have a quick look around the house, go upstairs or downstairs, and visit empty rooms just to make your mind feel more comfortable and so that you don't get too scared while you're listening to my voice.

Speaker 0

如果你需要去洗手间或者厨房,可能会吓得动不了,因为不敢一个人去。

And if you need to go to the toilet or the kitchen, you'll be frozen because you don't want to go alone.

Speaker 0

所以别忘了,这时候有人和你在一起。

So try to remember, there's someone there in the house with you.

Speaker 0

就算你一个人在家,也有人在你附近——你能听到我的声音,你不会有事的。

Even if you are alone, there's someone nearby, and you can hear my voice, and you'll be okay.

Speaker 0

如果你觉得受不了,也可以关掉音频,等到天亮再继续。

You could stop listening and wait until the daytime if you like.

Speaker 0

但我建议你还是听完全部内容,这样你就能听到这集结尾的音乐。

But I suggest that you listen to all of this just so that you can get to the end of it, hear the music at the end of the episode.

Speaker 0

虽然一个人待在安静的房间里可能挺吓人,但你知道自己已经听完了整集,恐怖故事到此结束,一切都会恢复正常。

And although it might be frightening to be in silence, you know that you've completed the episode, and that's the end of the scary stories, and everything will be back to normal.

Speaker 0

哦,还有一件事。

Oh, one other thing.

Speaker 0

听这段内容的时候,别看镜子。

Don't look in the mirror while you're listening to this.

Speaker 0

事实上,任何形式的倒影都尽量避开。

In fact, avoid reflections of any kind.

Speaker 0

在窗户上、手机屏幕或者电脑显示器上看到自己的倒影,都可能在这种情况下面临危险。

Seeing your reflection in a window, maybe even in the glass of your mobile phone or a computer monitor, seeing seeing reflections can be quite dangerous in these circumstances.

Speaker 0

据说镜子和倒影是通往灵界的门户。

Mirrors or reflections are said to be like portals to the spirit world.

Speaker 0

说实话,我也不确定信不信,但聊到鬼魂或恶魔时,小心点总没错。

I mean, I'm not sure I believe it, but it's better to be on the safe side, certainly when discussing ghosts or demons.

Speaker 0

谁知道那些古老的民间传说里,有多少是基于我们已经遗忘的真实知识呢?

Who knows what elements of old folklore are based on real knowledge that we've lost?

Speaker 0

也许民间传说在某种程度上都是真的。

Maybe folklore is all true to a certain extent.

Speaker 0

十九世纪的英国,灵异和超自然话题非常流行,那段时间记录下了许多怪异事件。

The subject of spirits and the supernatural was very popular in England during the nineteenth century, and lots of strange events were documented during that period.

Speaker 0

很多德高望重的人,比如《福尔摩斯》的作者阿瑟·柯南·道尔爵士,对这个话题非常着迷,还写过自己亲身经历的事。

Many well respected people, such as sir Arthur Conan Doyle, the author of the Sherlock Holmes stories, were very interested in this subject and wrote about their experiences.

Speaker 0

据说当时人们会聚在一起办降神会,通常是在那些据说闹鬼、常有幽灵出没的房子里,关着灯进行。

Apparently, people used to gather together in seances, which are meetings that often took place in dark rooms in houses that were said to be haunted or regularly visited by apparitions or other phantoms.

Speaker 0

他们聚在一起,就是为了跟亡者沟通,或者联系灵界。

So they got together in these seances in order to contact the dead or communicate with the spirit world.

Speaker 0

他们用各种工具来联系另一边,比如通灵板,还有镜子。

They used various devices to contact the other side, including Ouija boards, but also mirrors.

Speaker 0

这些做法的人会念诵一些古老的文本,据说能吸引来自另一界的幽灵。

Now what these practitioners would do was to read pages of old texts designed to attract ghosts from the other side.

Speaker 0

到了关键的时刻,所有人会一动不动地盯着镜子,想亲眼看到幽灵现身。

And then at certain key moments, they would all stare without blinking into a mirror in order to see the spirits appearing.

Speaker 0

据说,镜子是灵体向活人显现最常用的方式之一。

Apparently, the mirror was one of the most common ways that spirits reveal themselves to the living.

Speaker 0

它们可能只是在背景里现出个轮廓或黑影,有时甚至叠加在别人脸上,特别诡异;也有可能清清楚楚地显现出另一个人的样子,通常就站在镜中人群的身后。

They might just appear as a shape or a shadow in the background or sometimes even overlaid on top of someone else's face, which is very strange, or they would appear clearly as someone else in the room, usually standing behind the people in the mirror.

Speaker 0

还有不少都市传说讲,站在镜子前念特定的咒语,会把一个恶魔召进房间,和你的倒影在一起。

There are also lots of urban myths about standing in front of the mirror and saying special words, which brings a demon into the room with you with your reflection.

Speaker 0

据说,一旦恶魔进了你的镜子,它就会一直藏在你所有的倒影里,除非你找到办法把它赶走。

The story goes that once the demon has arrived in your mirror, he will always be there in any reflection of you until you find a way to remove him.

Speaker 0

而唯一赶走它的办法,就是告诉别人这件事,让他们对着镜子念出那些话。

And the only way to remove him is to tell someone else about it, persuading them to say the words while looking in a mirror.

Speaker 0

这样,恶魔就会转移到他们的倒影里,你就能重获自由了。

The demon is then transferred into their reflection, leaving you free again.

Speaker 0

最后,唯一的解决办法,是让一个盲人站在镜子前念出那些话。

Finally, the only solution is for a blind person to say the words in front of the mirror.

Speaker 0

他们把恶魔接了过去,却看不见它,所以恶魔对他毫无办法。

They then take the demon, but can't see it, and so it has no power over him.

Speaker 0

正如我之前说的,传统上人们相信,谈论灵体本身就能吸引它们,描述或想象另一个世界,甚至会让两个世界之间的界限变薄,让它们更自由地来访。

As I said before, traditionally, people believe that spirits can be attracted by talking about them and that describing or thinking about the other side can even make the gap between our worlds and the world of the spirits thinner, allowing them to visit us more freely.

Speaker 0

所以人们说起这些事时,往往都会压低声音,轻声细语。

That's why people tend to whisper or speak quietly when talking about these things.

Speaker 0

别到处大喊恶魔或灵体的名字,尤其是晚上,听这个的时候,或者听完之后不久,都别照镜子。

You shouldn't go around shouting the names of demons or spirits, especially at night, and you should not look in the mirror while listening to this or even soon after listening to this.

Speaker 0

这事儿不靠谱,我劝你千万别试。

It's not advisable, and I would warn you not to do it.

Speaker 0

说实话,我自己也不一定信,但我不清楚你信不信。

I mean, I don't necessarily believe it myself, but I don't know what you believe.

Speaker 0

不过有时候,就算科学不认同,传统智慧也值得留意。

But sometimes, it's worth paying attention to traditional wisdom even if science disagrees with it.

Speaker 0

科学也有可能出错,我之前说过。

Sometimes science can be proven wrong, as I said before.

Speaker 0

所以这期节目期间,别照镜子。

So avoid mirrors during this episode.

Speaker 0

希望你别被这些吓人的怪物传说搞得太过紧张或害怕。

I hope you're not getting too freaked out or scared by all of this, all this talk of scary monsters visiting you.

Speaker 0

如果你本来就迷信,那该怎么做就怎么做吧。

Now if you are superstitious, then, you know, do what you've got to do.

Speaker 0

如果觉得有用,可以念个简短的祷告,或者自己默默重复几句话,让自己安心一点。

Maybe say a short prayer, if that helps, or try repeating some words to yourself in order to make yourself feel okay.

Speaker 0

据说人们常念这句话来驱赶邪灵,如果你听了能感觉好一点,不妨小声重复几遍。

Apparently, a common thing that people can say to protect themselves from evil spirits is this, and you can try repeating this quietly to yourself if it makes you feel any better.

Speaker 0

明白吗?

Okay?

Speaker 0

就是这句话。

So it's it's this.

Speaker 0

我一个人在这里。

I am alone.

Speaker 0

我知道他们不在这里。

I know they are not here.

Speaker 0

我一个人在这里。

I am alone.

Speaker 0

我知道他们不会来。

I know they will not come.

Speaker 0

我一个人在这儿。

I am alone.

Speaker 0

我知道他们还没找到我。

I know they have not found me.

Speaker 0

明白吗?

Okay?

Speaker 0

这就是人们用来驱赶邪灵的一句话。

So that's just a a line that people say as a way of protecting themselves against evil spirits.

Speaker 0

你可以重复三遍。

You can say it three times.

Speaker 0

我一个人在这儿。

I am alone.

Speaker 0

我知道他们不在这里。

I I know they are not here.

Speaker 0

我一个人在这儿。

I am alone.

Speaker 0

我知道他们不会来了。

I know they are not coming.

Speaker 0

而且我一个人在这儿。

And I am alone.

Speaker 0

我知道他们还没找到我。

I know they have not found me.

Speaker 0

明白吗?

Okay?

Speaker 0

你可以重复这句话,但一定要把‘不’字放在正确的位置。

So you can repeat that, but just make sure that you get the word not in the correct position.

Speaker 0

明白吗?

Okay?

Speaker 0

这很重要。

That's very important.

Speaker 0

别这么说:‘我不孤单。’

Do not say, I am not alone.

Speaker 0

我知道他们在这儿,或者我知道他们会来,或者我知道他们已经找到我了。

I know that they are here, or I know that they will come, or I know that they have found me.

Speaker 0

别在照镜子的时候,或者任何时候,重复说这三句话。

Don't say that three times while looking into a mirror or even at any time.

Speaker 0

明白吗?

Okay?

Speaker 0

就是别这么说。

Just do not say that.

Speaker 0

希望我说清楚了。

I hope that's clear.

Speaker 0

如果你身边有人,那就更好了。

If you're with someone else, good.

Speaker 0

我建议你可以轻轻握一下对方的手,或者拍拍他的肩膀,表示没事的。

I recommend that you maybe just squeeze the the person's hand or maybe touch them on the shoulder just as a way to say, it's okay.

Speaker 0

你也在。

You're here too.

Speaker 0

如果他们对此反应不好,比如让你滚开,或者问你干嘛呢?

If they react badly to that, like if they tell you, get off or what are you doing?

Speaker 0

你就冷静地解释,说你只是想通过身体接触来建立一道保护屏障,防止一些奇怪或吓人的事情发生。

Just explain calmly that you're just making a physical contact with another person in order to create a protective boundary between you and the spirit world in order to prevent any weird or scary things from happening.

Speaker 0

我相信你的朋友或亲人一定会理解的。

I'm sure your friend or your loved one will understand.

Speaker 0

如果你在公共交通工具上,可以试着碰一下旁边坐着的人,不过后果自负。

If you're on a if you're on public transport, you could try touching this the person who's sitting next to you, but I'm not responsible for the consequences.

Speaker 0

明白吗?

Okay?

Speaker 0

我只想说,有时候公交车和地铁上的人,可能比鬼还可怕。

All I'll say is that sometimes people on buses and trains can be even more dangerous than ghosts.

Speaker 0

明白吗?

Okay?

Speaker 0

所以上地铁时,打算碰陌生人之前,最好先想想清楚。

So maybe think before you you make physical contact with a stranger on on the train.

Speaker 0

明白了吗?

Okay?

Speaker 0

最后,如果你在听的时候感到害怕,或者注意到周围有什么异常,就留下评论,说说发生了什么。

Finally, if you do get scared while you're listening to this or you notice anything strange going on around you, then just leave a comment explaining what has happened.

Speaker 0

读到这些经历一定会很有趣。

It could be fascinating to read about that.

Speaker 0

另外,如果你有过其他奇怪的经历,而且知道怎么解释,也欢迎留言告诉我们。

Also, if you have any other strange things that you've experienced and you you you know how to explain them, then just let us know by leaving a comment.

Speaker 0

我对你们对接下来我要分享的故事和经历的反应也非常感兴趣。

I'm also very interested in your responses to the stories and experiences that I'm going to share with you.

Speaker 0

所以,如果你觉得自己有解释,或者有过类似的经历,还是老规矩,留言告诉我们详情。

So, if you think you've got an explanation or a similar experience, again, just leave a comment and tell us all about it.

Speaker 0

好的。

Okay.

Speaker 0

我想我们该开始了。

I think we should probably get started.

Speaker 0

正如我之前说的,我要跟你们分享一些这些年发生在我身上的怪事,也想知道你们怎么看。

So as I said, I'm going to tell you some strange things that have happened to me over the years, and let me know what you think.

Speaker 0

明白吗?

Okay?

Speaker 0

我现在在想,该从哪儿说起呢。

Now, I'm wondering where I should start, here.

Speaker 0

我想先讲讲我住在日本时的一段经历。

I think I'm gonna start with, an experience that I had when I was living in Japan.

Speaker 0

你们知道,我十年前在日本住了两年。

As you know, I lived in Japan about ten years ago for two years.

Speaker 0

第二年夏天,我有三周时间几乎一个人待在公寓里。

And in the second year I was living there, I spent three weeks during the summer pretty much just living alone in my apartment.

Speaker 0

我每天照常上班,但公寓里就我一个人。

Now I was going to work every day, but I had the the apartment to myself.

Speaker 0

那是个两人住的公寓,以前我和另一个英国人合住,他住了大约十八个月才搬走。

It was an apartment for two people, and I used to live with another English guy, and he lived in the apartment for about eighteen months before moving out.

Speaker 0

三周后,另一个小伙子搬了进来,但那段时间我每天晚上和傍晚都一个人待在公寓里。

And three weeks later, another guy moved in, but I had three weeks there where I was just living in the apartment in the evenings and at night on my own.

Speaker 0

明白吗?

Okay?

Speaker 0

两居室的公寓,可就我一个人住。

Two bedroom apartment, but I was living in it alone.

Speaker 0

明白吗?

Okay?

Speaker 0

整整三周,我一个人等着从英国来的下一个室友。

So three weeks alone, waiting for the other flatmate to arrive from England.

Speaker 0

那三周我一个人住在这套公寓里,发生了一些特别怪的事。

Now during that three week period when I was living in the the the apartment on my own, some pretty weird things happened in the flat.

Speaker 0

行吧?

K?

Speaker 0

说实话,我真不知道该怎么解释这些事。

And to be honest, I don't really know how to explain them.

Speaker 0

我不是在说地震,虽然我确实经历过几次。

I'm not talking about earthquakes, although I did experience some of those.

Speaker 0

那也挺吓人的。

That was pretty frightening too.

Speaker 0

这些地震的故事以后可以做成《卢克英语播客》的另一期。

That should be another episode of Luke's English podcast someday, earthquake stories.

Speaker 0

但我说的不是地震,而是一件同样吓人、我根本说不清的事。

But, no, I'm not talking about earthquakes, but I I'm talking about something equally frightening, which I can't really explain.

Speaker 0

简单说,当时厨房的水龙头老是自己打开。

Now, basically, what happened was the kitchen tap kept turning itself on.

Speaker 0

明白吗?

Okay?

Speaker 0

就是水槽上面那个拧开就能出水的水龙头。

The kitchen the kitchen tap, that's the the the thing above the sink that you turn to get water, the tap.

Speaker 0

那水龙头老是自己莫名其妙地开了。

The kitchen tap would turn itself on.

Speaker 0

它就是自己莫名其妙地拧开了,好像有意识似的。

Just it would just turn itself on like it had a mind of its own.

Speaker 0

所以我晚上在卧室睡觉,半夜总会被厨房传来的响声惊醒。

So what happened was I would go to bed in my bedroom, and then in the middle of the night, I would wake up to this the sound of noise coming from the kitchen.

Speaker 0

你可以想象一下,一个人住在国外的公寓里,对那地方还不太熟悉,按理说这地方应该挺舒适、挺安全的。

So if you can imagine being in the being in apartments on your own in a in a foreign country that you don't, you know, you don't know everything about it, The apartment should have been quite a comfortable and safe place for me.

Speaker 0

但有一段时间,我总在半夜惊醒,外面一片漆黑,安静得吓人,而厨房的水龙头却一直哗哗地流着。

But there was just this period where I kept waking up in the middle of the night when it was completely dark and quiet outside, and the kitchen tap was just running like that.

Speaker 0

那水龙头为什么会自己开着呢?

Now why was the kitchen tap running?

Speaker 0

于是我只好爬起来,走进厨房,发现水龙头真的在开,哗哗地流着冷水,冷得异乎寻常。

So what what I did, I mean, I would get up, go into the kitchen, and there's the kitchen tap just running, running cold water, freezing cold water, much colder than usual.

Speaker 0

我得伸手把水龙头拧回去,才能回去继续睡觉。

And I'd I'd have to turn it off by turning the tap around in my hand before going back to bed.

Speaker 0

明白吗?

Okay?

Speaker 0

这件事一共发生了三次。

So this happened three times.

Speaker 0

前两次吧,虽然挺怪的,但我也没太放在心上。

The first two times, it was kind of it was just weird, but I didn't let it bother me too much.

Speaker 0

但第三次最吓人,因为我清楚记得上床前,我特意检查过水龙头是关着的。

But the third time was the worst because I distinctly remember before going to bed, I remember making sure that the tap was turned off.

Speaker 0

我明明用力拧紧了水龙头,还心里提醒自己:水龙头已经关了,才去睡觉的。

I, you know, firmly turned the tap off, and I made a mental note, the tap is off, before I went to bed.

Speaker 0

我记得当时还倒了杯水,然后关掉水龙头,才去睡的。

I remember getting myself a glass of water and then turning off the tap, and then I went to bed.

Speaker 0

结果那天凌晨三点左右,我被厨房里水龙头流水的声音吵醒了。

Now when I woke up, probably about 03:00 in the morning or something, when I woke up to hear the sound of the tap running in the kitchen.

Speaker 0

我的卧室和厨房是连着的。

Now my bedroom was connected to the kitchen.

Speaker 0

所以我一开门,直接就到厨房了。

So I would just open the door, and then I would be in the kitchen.

Speaker 0

明白吧?

Okay?

Speaker 0

所以我躺在床上就能听见水龙头在响。

So I could hear the sound of the tap running from my bed.

Speaker 0

于是我又被水龙头的声音吵醒了。

So I woke up to hear the sound of the tap running again.

Speaker 0

这经历真的很怪,半夜听见家里有动静,特别让人不安,对吧?

Now immediately, that's a strange experience because if you hear a sound that's clearly coming from inside your own apartment at night, it's quite disconcerting, isn't it?

Speaker 0

因为你第一反应就是:这是什么声音?

Because you think, well, what's that?

Speaker 0

这明显是屋里头传出来的。

That's clearly something inside.

Speaker 0

可我知道这房子里就我一个人,那这到底是什么动静?

And since I know that there's no one else in this apartment, what the hell is that noise?

Speaker 0

难道有人闯进来了?

Is it has someone broken in?

Speaker 0

这次,是第三次了,我知道那声音是什么了。

Well, this time, the third time, I knew what it was.

Speaker 0

我知道是水龙头在流水。

I knew that it was the tap running.

Speaker 0

这事儿真够怪的,我真不想起床。

So it's pretty weird, and I did not want to get up.

Speaker 0

我真的不想动。

I really didn't.

Speaker 0

不知怎么的,就是不想去厨房。

I just didn't want to have to go into the kitchen for some reason.

Speaker 0

我特别害怕。

I just was really scared.

Speaker 0

但我还是得去查看,得把水龙头关掉,总不能任由水一直流着睡觉吧。

But I had to investigate, and I had to stop the tap because I couldn't just go back to sleep with the tap running.

Speaker 0

最吓人的,就是我得打开卧室门,看见水龙头在厨房里哗哗流着的那一刻。

Perhaps the worst part of this was the moment when I had to open my bedroom door to reveal the kitchen with the tap running.

Speaker 0

不知怎么的,我整个人都僵住了,根本不想去开门,因为我不知道门后面会有什么。

For some reason, I was just sort of frozen, and I couldn't I just really didn't want to open that door because I didn't know what I was gonna see on the other side.

Speaker 0

我就是有种奇怪的感觉,觉得门后头有什么东西。

I just had this weird feeling that there was something on the other side of the door.

Speaker 0

你懂吧?

You know?

Speaker 0

就是那种明明没看见人,却总觉得有人在那里的感觉?

You know when you just get a sense that there's someone there?

Speaker 0

你不能确定有人,但就是觉得有人在那儿。

You don't know that there's someone there, but you just feel like someone is there.

Speaker 0

是直觉吧,我也说不清那是什么。

Instinct, I don't know what it is.

Speaker 0

可能是直觉,也可能是因为听到了什么额外的声响。

Instinct or maybe you're picking up something, some extra noise.

Speaker 0

我不确定,但我就是强烈感觉到,门后头还有别的东西。

I don't know, but I just really got a feeling there was something else on the other side of the door.

Speaker 0

所以我没想开门,但听见水龙头在滴水。

So I didn't want to open it, but I could hear the tap.

Speaker 0

我得去把它关掉。

I had to turn it off.

Speaker 0

于是我开了门,厨房里一片漆黑。

So I opened the door, and there was the kitchen all in darkness.

Speaker 0

我能看到厨房尽头的水龙头。

And I could see the tap at the end of the kitchen.

Speaker 0

水正往外流着。

I could see the water pouring out.

Speaker 0

别的什么也看不清。

Couldn't see anything else really.

Speaker 0

一切都很正常。

It was just normal.

Speaker 0

但我还是得穿过整个厨房,去把水龙头关上。

But I had to then walk across the kitchen to get to the tap to turn it off.

Speaker 0

最吓人的是,我得经过那个空房间。

Now the the kind of scary thing was that I had to walk past the empty bedroom.

Speaker 0

左边还有另一个空房间。

There was another empty bedroom on the left.

Speaker 0

我得从那儿走过,房门是开着的,里面什么都没有。

I had to walk past it, and the door to the bedroom was open, and the bedroom was empty.

Speaker 0

但房间另一头是几扇大窗户,还没挂窗帘。

But on the other side of the bedroom, there were these big windows with no curtains.

Speaker 0

晚上看到没拉窗帘的窗户,特别让人毛骨悚然,因为你根本不敢往外面看。

And this there's something very frightening about seeing windows, which have no curtains at night because you don't wanna look out.

Speaker 0

你不敢看窗外,怕会看到什么人,或者窗外贴着一张脸之类的东西。

You don't wanna look out of the windows because you think that I'm gonna see something out there or there's going to be a face at the window or something.

Speaker 0

我实在不敢往那边瞧。

I just couldn't really bring myself to look.

Speaker 0

于是我赶紧冲到水龙头那儿,连看都不敢看窗户一眼,就把水关了。

So I quickly walked, over to the tap, not looking at the windows, and turned off the tap.

Speaker 0

又像往常一样,冷得厉害。

It was very cold again, as usual.

Speaker 0

然后我得回床上去,但怎么也睡不踏实。

And and then I had to go back to bed, and I didn't really sleep very easily.

Speaker 0

不过我想着,反正后来也没再发生过。

But I just thought that I mean, it didn't happen again.

Speaker 0

就只发生了三次而已。

It just happened three times.

Speaker 0

我平时没那么胆小,可就是老忍不住去想那个水龙头。

But I'm not normally scared by stuff, but sometimes I can't stop thinking about that tap.

Speaker 0

你觉得这正常吗?

So what do you think?

Speaker 0

这到底是怎么做到的?

How on earth is that possible?

Speaker 0

水龙头怎么可能自己打开?

How can a tap turn itself on?

Speaker 0

也许是水压的问题。

Maybe maybe it's water pressure.

Speaker 0

我不确定。

I don't know.

Speaker 0

我又不是水管工。

I'm not a plumber.

Speaker 0

可能是管道里的水压积聚,然后把水逼得从水龙头里流出来。

But maybe something to do with water pressure building up inside the pipe, which then sort of forces itself out of the tap.

Speaker 0

也可能是管道里残留的水自己流出来了。

Maybe water which is left in the pipe just coming out.

Speaker 0

但那时候水龙头是开着的,你知道的。

But the pipe was you know, the tap was open.

Speaker 0

还有一种可能是,我睡觉时自己无意识地打开了水龙头,毕竟梦游是真会发生的。

Another theory is maybe I did it myself in my sleep, you know, because sleepwalking is is a thing that happens.

Speaker 0

也许我半夜起来走到水池边,把水龙头拧开了,光是想想就挺吓人的。

Maybe I walked to the sink and turned on the tap, which is pretty scary in itself.

Speaker 0

我干嘛非得半夜爬起来干这种事,醒来还一点都想不起来?

Like, why would I get up in the middle of the night, do something like that, and then not remember doing it when I woke up?

Speaker 0

我肯定记得才对。

Surely, I would remember.

Speaker 0

我真的说不准。

So I don't know.

Speaker 0

说实话,我真不知道。

I I don't actually know.

Speaker 0

要是理性地分析,我觉得唯一合理的解释就是我自己干的。

I mean, if you look at it rationally, that's I think the only explanation that I did it myself.

Speaker 0

可问题是,我完全不记得自己做过这些——不记得醒来,不记得起身,不记得去厨房,更不记得无缘无故开水龙头,我为什么要这么做?

But I the fact that I don't remember doing it at all, that I don't remember waking up, I have no memory of standing up, going into the kitchen, and turning the tap on for no reason, why would I do that?

Speaker 0

所以这个解释本身也挺吓人的。

So that that explanation itself is scary.

Speaker 0

但如果你再想想,也许根本不是我干的。

But then when you think, well, maybe it wasn't me.

Speaker 0

也许我整晚都躺在床上没动过。

Maybe I was in bed the whole time.

Speaker 0

到底是什么东西把水龙头拧开了?

What the hell was it that turned the tap on?

Speaker 0

确实太奇怪了。

Very strange indeed.

Speaker 0

我不是在说这跟超自然现象有关。

I'm not saying it was like the paranormal.

Speaker 0

我只是说,我也不知道那到底是什么。

I'm just saying I don't know what it was.

Speaker 0

也许你有什么想法?

Maybe you've got an idea.

Speaker 0

那时候我确实跟我的日本学生讲过这件事,因为我一开始觉得这事儿特别有意思。

Now I did tell at that time, I told all my Japanese students about this because I first of all, I thought it was fascinating.

Speaker 0

再者,我也想听听他们怎么看,毕竟我自己实在想不通。

And secondly, I just wanted to know what they thought because I was pretty stuck.

Speaker 0

我当时也不知道该怎么解释这件事。

I didn't know how to explain it.

Speaker 0

所以我问了学生们很多关于这个的事,让我挺意外的是,他们对我的经历并不觉得特别奇怪。

So I asked my students all about this, and, what was quite surprising for me is that they were not really surprised by my story.

Speaker 0

他们既没有震惊,也没有感到意外。

They weren't really shocked or surprised.

Speaker 0

实际上,日本很多人还挺迷信的。

And in fact, a lot of people in Japan are quite superstitious people.

Speaker 0

日本民间传说中有各种各样的幽灵,相信鬼魂和鬼故事的人非常多。

Apparently, there are many different types of ghost in Japanese folklore, and the belief in ghosts and ghost stories is quite common in Japan.

Speaker 0

我以前每周五早上教过一位老奶奶,她对这方面的知识特别丰富,跟我讲了很多,说日本的幽灵叫‘怨灵’,就是yurei。

One particular old woman that I used to teach on Friday mornings was very knowledgeable about this subject, and she told me a lot about it, saying how ghosts or yurei, that's Japanese word for ghosts, yurei.

Speaker 0

她说,其实怨灵很常见,大多数人也都觉得它们是真实存在的。

She said, in fact, yurei are quite common and even accepted by most people as being just real.

Speaker 0

据说,这些怨灵是那些因为死亡方式异常或生前经历重大创伤而无法安息的灵魂,这跟英国对鬼魂的解释其实差不多。

Apparently, these yure are spirits of people who've been prevented from having a peaceful afterlife because of the way they died or the trauma they experienced during their life, which is basically the same explanation given for ghosts in The UK too.

Speaker 0

真奇怪,世界各地的民间传说里都有鬼魂,而且都说是因为灵魂无法安息。

It's weird that ghosts feature in folklore from so many cultures around the world, and they all seem to be explained by the idea of a spirit that can't rest.

Speaker 0

不过这位女士说,我那儿的敲击声是被一种叫‘座敷童子’的孩童鬼魂搞的,这名字我一辈子都忘不了。

Anyway, this woman suggested that my tap thing was caused by, and I'll never forget this name, it was caused by a zakishi warashi or the ghost of a child.

Speaker 0

据说座敷童子通常爱恶作剧,干的都是一些调皮捣蛋的小事,不是那种特别吓人或危险的事。

Apparently, zashiki warashi are often mischievous, which means that they do naughty naughty little things rather than seriously scary or very dangerous things.

Speaker 0

就是干点小坏事,但都不算严重。

So they just do little bad things, which are not very serious.

Speaker 0

就是搞点小麻烦之类的。

They cause trouble and things like that.

Speaker 0

她说,这种东西通常会在日本的‘鬼时间’出现捣乱。

She said that they commonly arrive and do things during the Japanese witching hour.

Speaker 0

所谓的鬼时间,就是女巫活动的那段时间。

Now the witching hour is the hour when witches do stuff, the witching hour.

Speaker 0

在日本,鬼时间一般是凌晨两点到三点之间。

And apparently, in Japan, the witching hour is between 02:00 and 03:00 in the morning.

Speaker 0

这段时间,也就是凌晨两点到三点,最常发生各种怪事,也最容易遇到灵异现象。

Now this is the hour when the most strange things happen or when most ghostly encounters seem to occur between two and 03:00 in the morning.

Speaker 0

因为据说,这时候我们这个世界和灵界之间的界限最薄。

Because apparently, this is when the gap between our world and the spirit world is is sort of narrowest.

Speaker 0

就在这个时候,我们的世界和灵界靠得最近——也就是凌晨两点到三点的午夜时分。

This is when our world and the spirit world are closest just during this time, the witching hour, two to 03:00 in the morning.

Speaker 0

她说,日本夜里发生的怪事,有时候就是被归咎于座敷童子干的。

And she said that strange things that happen at night in Japan are sometimes attributed to Zashiki Warashi.

Speaker 0

说实话,这并没有让我好受多少,一想到半夜两点到三点,有个日本小孩的鬼魂在我公寓里捣乱,尤其我还是一个人住,根本没法安心。

This, to be honest, didn't really make me feel better because the idea that I had some little Japanese child ghost in my apartment between two and 03:00 at night was not particularly fun, especially when I was in the place on my own.

Speaker 0

不过幸运的是,自从我搬进来一个叫彼得的新室友后,那敲击声就再也没出现过。

But, thankfully, the tap thing stopped after I got a new flatmate called Peter.

Speaker 0

他八月份搬来的,从那以后一切就都正常了。

He arrived in August, and everything was alright.

Speaker 0

但在那之前,有好几个星期我一个人待在公寓里,整晚都不敢想那敲击声的事,过得特别煎熬。

But for a couple of weeks, I did have a very disturbing time alone in the apartment trying not to think about this tap.

Speaker 0

从那以后就没再发生过,也许就只是那次特殊情况,以后再也不会了。

It hasn't happened to me since, so maybe it was just that, you know, that occasion, and and it's never gonna happen again.

Speaker 0

如果再发生,我肯定得吓疯了。

If it does happen again, then I just will freak out.

Speaker 0

我心里清楚。

I know it.

Speaker 0

我从来没跟女朋友提过这事,怕她会担心。

I've never told my girlfriend about this because I think it would probably worry her.

Speaker 0

她对这种事特别容易害怕。

She gets scared by these things quite easily.

Speaker 0

各位觉得呢?

So what do you think, ladies and gentlemen?

Speaker 0

你们知道我那个水龙头自己打开是怎么回事吗?

Have you got any idea what caused my tap to turn itself on?

Speaker 0

有什么想法吗?

Any any thoughts or any ideas?

Speaker 0

如果你是日本人,有没有听说过宅子童子或者其他类型的灵异现象?

If you're from Japan, have you ever heard of Zashiki Warashi or any other types of ghost?

Speaker 0

你觉得我遇到的那位女士是在编故事,还是真的发生了?

And do you think the woman that I met was making it up or or not?

Speaker 0

你以前听说过类似的事情吗?

Have you heard of that kind of thing before?

Speaker 0

我倒是挺好奇的。

I wonder.

Speaker 0

这就是我的第一次经历。

So that's the that's my first experience.

Speaker 0

这算不上什么传奇故事,但确实是真实发生过的,我也说不清到底怎么回事。

Now it's not an absolute sort of legendary sort of story, but it is a real experience and kind of something I can't explain, really.

Speaker 0

我现在在想,还能跟你们说点什么别的。

Now I wonder what else I can tell you about.

Speaker 0

我还有几件别的事,可以跟你们分享一下。

I've got a few other things which I can share with you.

Speaker 0

我们来看看。

Let's see.

Speaker 0

好吧。

Okay.

Speaker 0

还有一个是关于弹跳球的故事。

Another one was the story of the bouncing ball.

Speaker 0

我已经跟你讲过日本水龙头的故事了。

So I've given you the story of the the Japanese running tap.

Speaker 0

下一个故事是弹跳球的故事。

Next story is the story of the bouncing ball.

Speaker 0

弹跳,比如说你有个足球。

Bouncing, let's say you got a football.

Speaker 0

如果你把足球扔到地上,它就会弹起来。

If you throw the football on the ground, it'll go.

Speaker 0

它会弹跳。

It it bounces.

Speaker 0

这就是弹跳。

That's to bounce.

Speaker 0

东西掉到地上,撞一下又弹起来,这就叫弹跳。

When you drop something and it hits the floor and comes back up again, that's that's to bounce.

Speaker 0

如果你把网球扔向地面,它就会弹起来。

So, you know, if you throw a tennis ball at the ground, it will bounce.

Speaker 0

如果你把足球扔向地面,只要里面充了气,它也会弹起来。

If you throw a football at the ground, it'll bounce if it's full of air.

Speaker 0

所以,这个弹跳球的故事。

So, the bouncing ball story.

Speaker 0

这真是个特别诡异的故事,我最近又重新想起来了,之前已经把它抛在脑后很久了。

This is definitely a freaky story and something which I've sort of thought about again recently after sort of putting it out of my mind for quite a long time.

Speaker 0

即使到现在,我依然觉得不安,虽然我其实并不想相信,但当时我也不太愿意相信。

And it still disturbs me even though I don't really want to believe it, and I I sort of didn't want to believe it at the time either.

Speaker 0

但现在回想起来,我真不知道该怎么解释。

But thinking about it now, I don't know how to explain it.

Speaker 0

这事儿太怪了。

It's very weird.

Speaker 0

你可能知道,我当年在利物浦上大学,住了整整四年。

So as you may know, I went to university in Liverpool, and I I lived in Liverpool for four years.

Speaker 0

第一年我住在学生宿舍,那地方人多得不得了。

The first year, I spent in student accommodation in a big residence full of full of people.

Speaker 0

明白吧?

Okay?

Speaker 0

第二年,我和几个朋友搬出了学生宿舍,在利物浦切布鲁克区、靠近韦斯特德比的地方找了一栋房子。

In the second year, me and a group of my friends left the student residence, and we found a house in a neighborhood of Liverpool called Chewbrook near West Derby.

Speaker 0

我们找的那房子特别大。

And we found a house which had which was a very big house.

Speaker 0

一共有四层,还有个地下室,七间卧室,大厨房,宽敞的客厅,而且是栋老房子。

It had four floors, a basement, let's see, seven bedrooms, a big kitchen, big living room, and it was an old house.

Speaker 0

这房子有个奇怪的地方是,它坐落在一排连体屋中间。

And, one of the strange things about this house was that it was on a street, of terraces.

Speaker 0

联排房子都是连在一起的。

So terraced houses are all connected.

Speaker 0

你见过英国街上那种长长的联排住宅吧,一整排房子都连着。

You know, you you see these terraced houses in English streets, long rows of houses that are all connected.

Speaker 0

我住的那条街叫俄罗斯大道,在利物浦。

Well, this street that I lived on, it was a Russian drive in Liverpool.

Speaker 0

整条街都是联排房,但中间偏偏有一栋房子孤零零地立着,两边都没连着任何房子。

This street was full of terraces, rows of terraces, but then there was one house in the middle of the street that was on its own, just separated, so it had no houses connected on either side.

Speaker 0

就是这一栋四层楼的大房子,我们住的就是它。

This just this one big house, four floors, that was the house that we lived in.

Speaker 0

门牌号是俄罗斯大道14号。

It was Number 14, Russian Drive.

Speaker 0

就这一栋,单独一栋。

Just this one house on its own.

Speaker 0

据说它原本是和旁边的房子连着的,但那栋在二战时被炸弹炸毁了。利物浦当时被德军炸得很惨,周边很多房子都毁了,连着这栋的那栋也不例外。

Apparently, what the reason it was on its own, was because it used to have another house connected to it, but that house, was destroyed by a bomb which landed on it during World War two because Liverpool was quite heavily bombed by the Germans, during World War two, and lots and lots of houses around Liverpool were destroyed by bombs, including the house next door to this one.

Speaker 0

所以很可能炸弹直接命中了那栋房子,或者就在附近爆炸,把整栋楼都炸没了,里面住的人可能全都没了。

So probably a bomb will have would have landed directly on it or nearby, and it would have been destroyed and maybe even all of all the people living in it killed.

Speaker 0

我不确定这跟那个故事有没有关系,但确实挺奇怪的,居然有这么一栋孤零零的房子。

I don't know if that has any connection to the the story, but certainly, it's just a bit strange because there was this house on its own.

Speaker 0

它以前其实是和另一栋房子连在一起的,但那栋在二战的一次空袭中被炸毁了。

It did used to have, like, a twin house next to it, but that one had been destroyed in World War two in a bombing raid.

Speaker 0

总之,我们搬进了这栋房子。

So, anyway, we moved into the house.

Speaker 0

那地方真不错。

It was great.

Speaker 0

我们有自己的房子。

We had our own house.

Speaker 0

简直太棒了。

It was brilliant.

Speaker 0

我和几个朋友一起住在这栋房子里。

I was with some friends all living in this house together.

Speaker 0

那可太有意思了。

It was great fun.

Speaker 0

但住在这儿也有些怪事。

But there were some strange things about living in this place.

Speaker 0

尤其是有一件事,住在顶层或者楼下的人总说听到有个球在 bouncing 的声音。

Well, one strange thing in particular, and that was that, people who lived, at the top of the house on either the Top Floor or the floor below would complain about the sound of a bouncing ball.

Speaker 0

明白吧?

Okay?

Speaker 0

我当时其实不太信这事儿。

Now I didn't really believe it.

Speaker 0

那时候我挺怀疑的,根本不信这种说法。

And, you know, at the time, I was quite skeptical, didn't believe in that kind of thing.

Speaker 0

特别是住在阁楼里的人,老是抱怨。

But in particular in in particular, the people who lived in the loft room.

Speaker 0

阁楼就在屋顶最上面,直接挨着房顶。

So there was a room right at the top, right in the roof of the house.

Speaker 0

事实上,在我们住那里的三年里,这个房间先后有三个人住过,每年换一个。

And, in fact, three people three three people used this room over the course of the three years that we lived there, one person every year.

Speaker 0

每个人住满第一年之后,都决定再也不想继续住下去了。

And each person decided that they didn't wanna stay in that room after the first year that they'd lived there.

Speaker 0

每个人都勉强住了一年,然后就坚持不下去了。

So each person managed to stay in it for a year before deciding they wanted to leave.

Speaker 0

其中一个原因,就是他们总能听到屋顶上那个奇怪的弹跳声。

And one of the reasons was because of the sound of this strange bouncing ball that they could hear in the roof of the house.

Speaker 0

这声音只在晚上出现,而且我真的亲耳听过几次。

So it only happened at night, and apparently and I did hear it myself.

Speaker 0

我确实听过好几次,这事儿挺诡异的。

I did hear it a few times, which is pretty strange.

Speaker 0

但每次都是在夜里发生。

But it would happen at night.

Speaker 0

你突然就会听到好像有个球在掉,像是个塑料足球,砰砰地弹跳,然后又突然停了。

You'd suddenly start to hear what sounded like a ball, like a plastic football being dropped, and the ball would bounce and then stop bouncing.

Speaker 0

所以你可以想象,就像一个塑料足球被扔下来,慢慢停下来的声音。

So it it would you know, if you could imagine the sound of a plastic football being dropped and just slowly coming to rest.

Speaker 0

就是那种声音。

So it was like, like that.

Speaker 0

明白了。

Okay.

Speaker 0

你大概在想,这肯定有合理的解释吧。

You're probably thinking, alright, there must be an explanation for this.

Speaker 0

事实上,我们所有人也都这么想。

And that's in fact what we all thought.

Speaker 0

我们花了不少时间讨论这个,想弄清楚那到底是什么声音。

We spent quite a lot of time talking about this, trying to work out what it was.

Speaker 0

但谁也没能得出一个确凿的结论。

No one ever managed to come up with a conclusive answer.

Speaker 0

我们甚至爬进屋顶,想亲自找找那声音的来源。

We even crawled into the roof of the house in order to try and find out what was making that noise.

Speaker 0

我们什么都没找到。

We didn't find anything.

Speaker 0

明白吗?

K?

Speaker 0

上面根本没水箱。

There was no water tank up there.

Speaker 0

你可能觉得那大概是个水箱。

You you might be thinking it was probably a water tank.

Speaker 0

也许是个浮球阀,就是水箱里那种阀门装置。

Maybe there was a ballcock, which was a was a sort of valve system in a water tank.

Speaker 0

当水位降到某个程度,或者升到某个高度时,塑料浮球可能会撞上水箱顶部之类的,发出声音。

And maybe when the water drops to a certain level or rises to a certain level, it causes the plastic float, the bull cock, to knock against the roof of the the the water tank or something like that.

Speaker 0

但其实不是。

Well, no.

Speaker 0

那里根本就没有水箱。

There was no water tank in there.

Speaker 0

所以那根本不是原因。

So that's not what it was.

Speaker 0

你可能会想,会不会是风里有什么东西在吹来吹去。

You might be thinking, maybe there was like, I don't know, maybe something blowing in the wind.

Speaker 0

也许有东西被风吹得撞在墙上之类的。

Maybe something in the wind sort of caused this thing to knock against the wall or something.

Speaker 0

但这种声音总是在晚上、没风的时候出现。

But this would happen on evenings and nights when there was no wind.

Speaker 0

即使夏天的夜晚风平浪静,你还是会听到那个弹跳球的声音。

Even very calm evenings in the summer, sometimes you would hear the sound of this bouncing ball.

Speaker 0

不可能是邻居,这房子周围根本没住人。

It wasn't the neighbors because there were no neighbors connected to the house.

Speaker 0

如果你在阁楼里,会被这声音吵醒。

And if you were were in the loft, it would wake you up.

Speaker 0

你正躺在床上睡觉,突然就被一阵声音惊醒了。

You'd you'd be in bed sleeping, and then suddenly you'd be woken up by the sound of.

Speaker 0

就这么回事。

And that's it.

Speaker 0

我们也不知道那到底是什么。

We don't know what it is.

Speaker 0

我们检查过屋顶,什么都没找到,我真的想不出有什么合理的解释能说明为什么会发出那种声音。

Even though we looked through the roof of the house, found nothing, I can't think of I genuinely can't think of a good reason why there would be a sound.

Speaker 0

你想想看。

Think about it.

Speaker 0

它不是每晚都发生。

It didn't happen every night.

Speaker 0

根本没法预测它什么时候会出现,什么时候不会。

There was no kind of telling when it was gonna happen or when it was not gonna happen.

Speaker 0

它不是每晚都发生。

It didn't happen every night.

Speaker 0

它也不是在特定条件下才会出现。

It didn't happen in certain conditions.

Speaker 0

所以它并不是只在下雨的时候发生。

So it didn't only happen when it was raining.

Speaker 0

下雨时有时会响,有时也不会。

It would happen sometimes when it was raining, sometimes not.

Speaker 0

它也不是只在刮风的时候出现。

It didn't just happen when it was windy.

Speaker 0

所以不是风把什么东西吹动了。

So it wasn't the wind blowing something.

Speaker 0

有风的时候它确实出现过。

Sometimes it happened when there was wind.

Speaker 0

没风的时候它也发生过。

Sometimes it happened when there was no wind.

Speaker 0

明白吗?

Okay?

Speaker 0

我们想出来的所有推测,基本都被推翻了。

All of the theories that we came up with were sort of pretty much disproved.

Speaker 0

所以是风在吹动什么东西,比如说。

So it's the wind blowing something, for example.

Speaker 0

不对,因为没风的时候它也会发生。

Well, no, because it even happens when there's no wind.

Speaker 0

那是个水箱。

It's a water tank.

Speaker 0

那是水箱里的一个浮子。

It's it's a a float in a water tank.

Speaker 0

不是。

No.

Speaker 0

上面根本没什么水箱。

There's no water tank up there.

Speaker 0

我们检查过房子的屋顶。

We looked through the roof of the house.

Speaker 0

什么都没发现。

We found nothing.

Speaker 0

那声音到底是什么?

What was the sound?

Speaker 0

这个球掉下来的时候,声音到底像什么?

What was the sound of this ball dropping?

Speaker 0

这可把住在顶层的人吓坏了。

So this would really freak out the people who lived at the top.

Speaker 0

正如我所说,那阁楼里住了三个人,他们简直受不了。

And as I said, people, three people lived in that loft, and they couldn't stand it.

Speaker 0

最后他们都搬走了。

They all moved out.

Speaker 0

我住在一楼,连我都偶尔能听到这个球的声音,这很奇怪,因为声音得从阁楼传下来,穿过三层楼才能到我这儿。

I lived on the Ground Floor, and even I could hear this ball sometimes, which is weird because the sound would carry all the way from the loft, all the way down three floors to the to the bottom.

Speaker 0

好像每当这声音出现时,整栋房子里就只剩下这球的声音,特别响。

It's almost as if when you when this sound was happening that it was the loudest thing in the house, just the sound of this ball.

Speaker 0

是不是挺奇怪的?

Strange, isn't it?

Speaker 0

也许你会想,是不是屋里有人在恶作剧。

Now maybe it was maybe you're thinking, oh, it would have been someone in the house playing a trick.

Speaker 0

但那几个人为什么要连续三年一直这么做呢?

But they're not they why would they have kept this up for three years?

Speaker 0

我了解我的朋友们,也知道我们当时是怎么讨论这件事的。

And I know my friends, and I know the way we all talked about it.

Speaker 0

我真心相信,根本没人搞什么恶作剧。

I genuinely believe that no one was playing a trick.

Speaker 0

那他们到底是怎么做到的?

And how would they do it?

Speaker 0

因为那声音是从屋顶传下来的。

Because the sound was coming from the roof.

Speaker 0

是来自屋顶内部,你知道的。

It was coming from, you know, inside the roof.

Speaker 0

不是从阁楼下面传上来的。

It wasn't coming from below the loft.

Speaker 0

声音是从阁楼周围的屋顶传出来的。

It was coming from the roof around the loft.

Speaker 0

我不清楚。

I don't know.

Speaker 0

我也说不准那会是什么。

I don't know what that could be.

Speaker 0

也许我真的不知道。

Maybe I don't know.

Speaker 0

我真的一点都不知道那到底是什么。

I I I genuinely don't know what that was.

Speaker 0

那你觉得呢?

So what do you think?

Speaker 0

对这种奇怪的弹跳球声音,你有什么想法吗?

Any idea about this strange bouncing ball sound?

Speaker 0

说说你的看法吧。

Tell me what you think.

Speaker 0

我们来看看。

Let's see.

Speaker 0

那就是那个弹跳的声音。

That's the the bouncing ball.

Speaker 0

我还剩下什么?

What else do I have?

Speaker 0

好吧。

Okay.

Speaker 0

我还有一个。

I've got another one.

Speaker 0

我来跟你说说,我那天早上醒过来,整个人冻在床里,以为房间里有人,结果还被一个奇怪的钟吓了一跳。

I'm gonna tell you the story of how I woke up frozen in bed, convinced that there was someone in the room, and how I got freaked out by a strange clock.

Speaker 0

明白吗?

Okay?

Speaker 0

再说一遍,我不是在讲什么超自然的事,也不是鬼故事。

Again, I'd I'm not saying that this is a supernatural story or the story of a ghost.

Speaker 0

就是一件挺奇怪的事,我真说不清是怎么回事。

It's just something strange that I can't really explain.

Speaker 0

咱们看看。

Let's see.

Speaker 0

我跟你说说这个故事。

Let me tell you the story.

Speaker 0

好。

Okay.

Speaker 0

这事发生在我伦敦的时候。

So this happened to me in London.

Speaker 0

我以前在利物浦待了四年,离开后去了日本,在那儿住了两年。

So I'd, I'd spent four years in Liverpool, left Liverpool, and eventually went to Japan, stayed there for two years.

Speaker 0

从日本回来后,我又回到了伦敦住。

When I came back from Japan, I was living in London again.

Speaker 0

刚开始,我住在我父母的公寓里。

And, at the beginning, I was living in my parents' flat.

Speaker 0

他们伦敦有个公寓,我就住那儿。

They had a flat in London, so I was living there.

Speaker 0

但前六个月挺折腾的,我爸妈决定把整个公寓里里外外重新装修一遍。

But the first six months were a bit tricky because my parents decided that they were going to completely redecorate, the inside of the apartment.

Speaker 0

所以我得搬出去住了一个月。

So I had to move out for a month.

Speaker 0

那段时间挺难熬的,我刚在国外待了两年,重新回到自己的文化里,总觉得不太适应。

It was kind of a difficult time for me because I'd just been living abroad for two years, so I wasn't completely comfortable back in my own culture again.

Speaker 0

我感觉自己格格不入。

I felt kind of out of place.

Speaker 0

有点脱节的感觉。

I felt a bit out of touch.

Speaker 0

说实话,我特别想念在日本的那些朋友。

To be honest, I was missing all my friends back in Japan.

Speaker 0

有点孤单。

I felt a bit lonely.

Speaker 0

然后我不得不搬出自己的公寓,整整一个月都住在朋友家的沙发上,随身只带着一个行李箱。

And then then I had to move out of my own apartment, and I was living on people's sofas, living out of a suitcase for a month.

Speaker 0

去年十月的一个周末,我住在南伦敦一位朋友家,具体在肯宁顿,那是南伦敦的一个区域。

Now one weekend in October, I I was staying at a friend's house in South London, k, way down in Kennington, which is an area in South London.

Speaker 0

肯宁顿是个很有历史底蕴的地方。

It's, Kennington is a quite a historical place.

Speaker 0

事实上,我朋友以前住的那条街,正是查理·卓别林童年时长大的地方。

In fact, the street, where my friend used to live was a street where Charlie Chaplin grew up as a child.

Speaker 0

在上世纪早期,那一带以极度贫困闻名。

It was notorious back in the sort of early part of the last century for being a very poverty stricken area.

Speaker 0

那时候穷困潦倒的人很多,是个非常贫苦的地区。

Lots of poverty there, very poor region.

Speaker 0

现在那儿已经是个挺不错的居住地了。

These days, it's it's a nice place to live.

Speaker 0

那里保留着许多漂亮的旧式住宅。

They've got these lovely old houses.

Speaker 0

跟利物浦的房子一样,这些房子也挺高的,大概有四层楼。

Again, similar to the houses in Liverpool, they're kind of tall, houses, probably about four floors.

Speaker 0

同样有地下室、一层客厅,上面还有好几层。

Again, a basement, a ground floor, and several other floors on top.

Speaker 0

这些老房子特别棒,规模很大,充满历史感,仿佛能感受到以前住过的人留下的痕迹。

Really fantastic, big, old houses with a real sense of history and a real sense of a past and past lives who've lived in this house before.

Speaker 0

那段时间我到处借住,朋友就让我在他家过周末。

So my friend let me stay in his place for the weekend while I was, you know, moving around, staying with different people.

Speaker 0

那会儿是十月,外面已经开始有点冷了。

And it was October, so it was getting a little bit cold outside.

Speaker 0

那天晚上,就我和朋友两个人,待在他家的公寓里。

And that evening, it was me and my friend, just the two of us in his apartment in in his house.

Speaker 0

我们俩互相讲恐怖故事,想吓唬对方。

And we were sort of telling each other scary stories, trying to trying to scare each other.

Speaker 0

他跟我讲了他前女友的事,那故事挺怪的。

And he told me, about his ex girlfriend, and the story was pretty weird.

Speaker 0

但这不是我要讲的故事。

But this isn't this isn't the story.

Speaker 0

这根本不是我的故事。

This is just this isn't my story.

Speaker 0

这只是其中一部分,算是背景铺垫。

This is just part of it, just part of the context.

Speaker 0

他说他以前和这女孩交往过,一切都挺好的,但总觉得她有点怪。

So he said that he used to go out he used to, go out with this girl, and it was great and everything, but, there was something strange about her.

Speaker 0

她有时候会在半夜突然醒过来。

And that was the fact that sometimes in the middle of the night, she would wake up.

Speaker 0

不对。

No.

Speaker 0

有时候他半夜醒来,是因为听见她在说梦话。

Sometimes in the middle of the night, he would wake up because she was talking in her sleep.

Speaker 0

明白吗?

Okay?

Speaker 0

你有没有过这样的经历,就是有人在同一个房间里说梦话?

I don't know if you've ever experienced that when someone in the same room is talking in their sleep.

Speaker 0

这感觉特别奇怪。

It's pretty weird.

Speaker 0

有时候他们真的会说出正常的话,你甚至能听出他们在跟谁对话,挺诡异的。

Sometimes they they actually say normal words, and you can kind of listen to them having a conversation with someone, which is pretty odd.

Speaker 0

有时候他们根本说不出什么词。

And sometimes they don't really say anything.

Speaker 0

就只会发出一些特别吓人的声音。

They just make some really scary sounds.

Speaker 0

我表弟奥利弗说梦话,但他说的完全听不懂。

My cousin, Oliver, talks in his sleep, but he doesn't make sense.

Speaker 0

他就说一种我完全不明白的奇怪语言。

He just kind of speaks a weird language that I don't understand.

Speaker 0

他睡着了说话的时候,特别诡异。

It's very strange when he's talking in his sleep.

Speaker 0

他就会那样

He kinda goes,

Speaker 1

是啊

It's

Speaker 0

就好像另一个人在用他的嘴说话一样。

like it's like someone else is talking using his mouth.

Speaker 0

真的特别吓人。

It's really, really scary.

Speaker 0

我朋友跟我讲过,他有时候半夜醒来,发现女朋友躺在旁边说梦话。

Anyway, so my friend was telling me about how sometimes he would wake up in the middle of the night, and his girlfriend was lying in bed next to him talking in her sleep.

Speaker 0

有时候她还会直接坐起来。

And sometimes she would actually sit upright.

Speaker 0

她会睁着眼睛坐起身来。

She would sit up in the bed with her eyes open.

Speaker 0

她明明睡着了,眼睛却睁着,跟房间里的人说话,好像那个人真在那儿似的。

She was asleep, but her eyes would be open, and she would be talking to someone as if this person was in the room, with them.

Speaker 0

于是我的朋友醒过来,看见女朋友直挺挺地坐在床上,好像真有个人坐在床尾跟她说话似的。

And so my friend would wake up and kind of look at his girlfriend sitting bolt upright in bed, talking as if there was someone sitting on the end of the bed.

Speaker 0

他仔细听了一会儿,才发现她是在跟她的爷爷说话。

And he would listen to her, and, it became clear that she was talking to her grandfather.

Speaker 0

她就这么跟爷爷聊着天,那语气太真实了,完全不像在梦话。

So she would have these conversations with her grandfather, and it was so convincing, so real.

Speaker 0

虽然她明明睡着了,但脸上的表情、说话时偶尔流露的沮丧,还有她分明在跟房间里某个人对视的样子,都让人觉得真得不能再真。

Even though she was just talking in her sleep, it looked so real, the expression on her face, the fact that she would be quite upset sometimes when talking, and the fact that she was clearly making eye contact with someone else in the room.

Speaker 0

有时候那个人像是坐在床上,有时候又只是站在房间后头,她就对着他摇头说,不行。

Sometimes the person would appear to be sitting on the bed, and sometimes the person would just be standing at the back of the room, and she would be talking to him sort of saying, no.

Speaker 0

不行。

No.

Speaker 2

你不懂。

You don't understand.

Speaker 2

为什么

Why are

Speaker 0

你在这儿?

you here?

Speaker 0

你为什么在这儿?

Why are here?

Speaker 0

你为什么回来了?

Why did you come back?

Speaker 0

就是这类事情。

You know, that kind of thing.

Speaker 0

所以,我朋友特别害怕,每次醒来都看见她在跟一个幽灵说话,那场景太真实了。

So and understandably, my friend used to get really scared because he would wake up, and she's there having a conversation with a ghost is what it looked like.

Speaker 0

这真的让他吓得不行。

And and it was really, really frightening for him.

Speaker 0

这个想法让我也毛骨悚然——我忍不住想,夜里真的会有人来探访你吗?

And that kind of freaked me out, just this idea that I wonder if it's possible to be visited by someone at night like that.

Speaker 0

然后我就开始想,这间屋子,就是发生这一切的地方。

And then I started thinking, well, this is the house in which it happened.

Speaker 0

也许她只是在跟一个人说话。

Maybe maybe she was talking to a a person.

Speaker 0

也许看起来她像在说梦话,但从她的角度看,床尾确实有个人,她在跟那个人聊天。

Maybe it looked like she was sleep talking, but maybe in her from her point of view, there was a person at the end of the bed who she was talking to.

Speaker 0

她还跟我朋友说,是啊,我经常梦见跟爷爷说话。

And, in fact, she said to my friend, she told him, well, yeah, I do often have dreams that I talk to my grandfather.

Speaker 0

爷爷会来我的梦里,我就在梦里跟他聊天。

My grandfather visits me in my dreams, and I talk to him in my dreams.

Speaker 0

她说,过去就有人跟她说过,她从小就这样,一直如此。

And she said that, you know, people have told her in the past that she's been to she's done it all her life.

Speaker 0

这确实挺奇怪的。

And, so that's pretty strange.

Speaker 0

还有,有时候她会直接从床上站起来,起身离开房间,一边走一边说话。

Also, the fact that sometimes she would actually walk out of the bed, so she would stand up and leave the room talking.

Speaker 0

一般人不会梦游,但确实有人会这样。

It's not very common that people sleepwalk, but it does happen.

Speaker 0

这可不是什么超自然现象。

It's not some sort of paranormal thing.

Speaker 0

其实是有科学解释的。

It can be explained.

Speaker 0

这不过是做梦时很平常的一种表现。

It's just a normal part of dreaming.

Speaker 0

有时候人会起床走动、说话,甚至跟人聊天。

Sometimes people get up, they walk around, they talk, they have conversations.

Speaker 0

所以当我的朋友醒过来时,肯定被吓了一跳。

So but it must have freaked out my friend when, for example, he woke up.

Speaker 0

她正在跟别人说话。

She was talking to someone.

Speaker 0

她站起来,一边说一边走出了房间。

She got up and seemed to leave the room talking.

Speaker 0

但他告诉我,每次她离开房间后,他总觉得那个祖父的幽灵还留在房间里,陪着他。

But he told me that he always had the sensation that when she left the room, that the ghost, the grandfather was still there in the room with him.

Speaker 0

他感觉房间里有人。

He felt like someone was there.

Speaker 0

他就是有种奇怪的感觉,因为她盯着房间的样子,让他觉得有人在那儿。

He could just had this strange sensation because of the way she was looking in the room, that there was someone there.

Speaker 0

所以那天晚上,他去睡觉了,而我睡在楼下的沙发上。

So, you know, at the end of the evening, he went to bed, and I slept downstairs on the sofa.

Speaker 0

明白吗?

Okay?

Speaker 0

那天晚上,我睡得特别奇怪。

And that evening, I had a very strange night.

Speaker 0

也许是因为我一直在想他跟我说的那些事,但我确实睡得特别奇怪。

Maybe it was just the fact that I was thinking about these stories that he told me, but I had a very strange night.

Speaker 0

我记得半夜突然惊醒,整个人都僵住了。

And I remember waking up in the middle of the night frozen, completely frozen.

Speaker 0

我当时面朝墙躺着,背对着房间的其他部分。

So I was lying facing the wall with my back to the rest of the room.

Speaker 0

为了让你有点概念,那个房间很大,分成两个区域。

The just to give you a bit of context, the room was quite large in two sections.

Speaker 0

一个是客厅,再往里是个小凹室,穿过那里就是餐厅。

There was a living room and then a a kind of alcove where you could walk through to a dining room.

Speaker 0

房间两端都有大窗户,但没挂窗帘。

At both ends, there were large windows without curtains.

Speaker 0

明白吗?

Okay?

Speaker 0

房间另一头的窗户对着花园,那边一片漆黑。

So at the other end of the room, the window went out into the garden, and it was just dark on that side.

Speaker 0

而房间前头的窗户外头有街灯,透进一点光。

And at the front end of the room, you could see some light coming in from streetlights outside.

Speaker 0

我躺在沙发上,脸朝着墙。

And I was lying on the sofa facing the wall.

Speaker 0

我醒过来的时候,吓坏了。

And, I woke up, and I was just terrified.

Speaker 0

我说不清楚为什么。

I can't explain why.

Speaker 0

我就是突然惊醒,吓坏了。

I just woke up terrified.

Speaker 0

就好像,是我自己的恐惧把我从睡梦中拽醒的,好像我在睡着的时候就已经害怕了,一睁眼就彻底吓懵了。

It was almost as if, I was brought back to consciousness by my own fear, as if I was already scared when I was asleep, and I just woke up completely terrified.

Speaker 0

我不知道你有没有过这种经历,但这不是第一次,我猜也不会是最后一次。

Now I don't know if you've ever experienced this, but it's not the first time, and I expect it won't be the last time that that has happened to me.

Speaker 0

有时候半夜醒来,我就会突然吓到,浑身动弹不得。

I've it's sometimes I wake up in the middle of the night just terrified and frozen.

Speaker 0

动不了。

Can't move.

Speaker 0

所以,总之,我醒过来的时候,整个人都吓呆了。

So, anyway, I woke up completely terrified.

Speaker 0

我动不了,只觉得背后有个人正盯着我。

I couldn't move, and I just got the overwhelming sensation that there was someone in the room behind me.

Speaker 0

明白吗?

Okay?

Speaker 0

我真难让你体会到那种感觉,但就在半夜那个瞬间,我完全动弹不得。

It's hard for me to really get across to you how that felt, But at that sort of moment in the middle of the night, I was just completely frozen.

Speaker 0

我该怎么形容呢?

And and I was like, how can I explain it?

Speaker 0

我特别想转过身去看看。

I felt like I wanted to turn around.

Speaker 0

我感觉自己像在打仗。

I felt like I was in a battle.

Speaker 0

就像被卷入了一场无形的搏斗,怎么都挣脱不了。

It felt like I was locked into some kind of battle or struggle.

Speaker 0

那场搏斗是心里的——我得战胜自己的恐惧。

And the struggle was mental, because it was kind of like, okay, I've got to conquer my fear.

Speaker 0

万一真有什么东西在房间里呢?也许什么都没有,可我就是感觉它就在那儿。

Because if there's something here, if there's something in this room now maybe there's nothing, but I can feel that there's something there.

Speaker 0

所以如果我猛地转过身,表现出我不怕他,他就会消失了。

So if I turn around strong and show him that I'm not scared, then it's gonna go away.

Speaker 0

所以我必须坚强起来。

So I've got to be strong.

Speaker 0

对吧?

Right?

Speaker 0

你想想,比如你遇到一只危险的狗。

You know, imagine if you, for example, are faced with a dog, like a a dangerous dog.

Speaker 0

你知道你得表现得毫不畏惧,因为狗能闻出恐惧。

Now you know that you've got to show it no fear because dogs can smell fear.

Speaker 0

对吧?

Right?

Speaker 0

你知道,如果你露怯,它就会扑向你。

You know that if you if you show weakness, then it's gonna go for you.

Speaker 0

所以你得展现出勇气和底气,让它明白别来招惹你。

So you you know that you have to show some courage and strength to show it that you're that you you know, it shouldn't mess with you.

Speaker 0

我刚才就是这么想的。

This is what I was thinking.

Speaker 0

我一直在想,对吧。

I was thinking, right.

Speaker 0

我不知道那儿有什么,但我打算转过身,直直地看进房间,确认那里什么都没有,然后一切就会没事的。

I don't know what's there, but I'm gonna turn around and I'm I'm gonna look directly into the room and see that there's nothing there, and and it's gonna be okay.

Speaker 0

但我根本做不到。

But I couldn't do it.

Speaker 0

我整个人都僵住了。

I was physically frozen.

Speaker 0

这真的特别奇怪。

It's really, really weird.

Speaker 0

我感觉到自己身上有股压力。

I felt pressure on myself.

Speaker 0

我觉得自己动不了。

I felt like I couldn't move.

Speaker 0

好吧。

Okay.

Speaker 0

于是我躺在那儿,眼睛睁着,盯着墙,根本动不了,心里跟自己较劲,拼命告诉自己要镇定,让房间里那东西知道它奈何不了我。

So I lay there for a while with my eyes open, staring at the wall, unable to turn around, having this mental fight of trying to get a grip on myself, so that whatever was in the room knew that it couldn't get me.

Speaker 0

这不奇怪吗?

Now, is that strange or what?

Speaker 0

这真的不正常吗?

Is that really weird?

Speaker 0

这事儿确实怪,但还没完——最后我总算又睡着了。

That's very strange, but it doesn't end there because finally, I'm I managed to go back to sleep.

Speaker 0

我没敢回头去看房间,但确实又睡着了。

I didn't manage to turn around and check the room, but I did go back to sleep.

Speaker 0

大概一小时后,我又被吵醒了。

Probably about an hour later, I was woken up again.

Speaker 0

明白吗?

Okay?

Speaker 0

但这次我醒过来,是被闹钟吵醒的,它就放在沙发旁边的架子上。

But this time when I woke up, I was woken up by the clock, which was just on the shelf next to the sofa.

Speaker 0

那儿就放着一个钟。

There's a clock just there.

Speaker 0

那钟一直在走,我发誓,发出那种声音。

And the clock was going, right, I swear, making that noise.

Speaker 0

那真的吓到我了,我脑子里就一个念头:这到底是什么东西?

And that was really scary because I was just thinking, what the hell is that?

Speaker 0

我唯一能做的就是伸手去抓那个钟,想让它停下来。

All I could do was just try and grab this clock to stop it.

Speaker 0

我一直在敲它的顶部。

And I was hitting it on the top.

Speaker 0

我心里直犯嘀咕:这是什么?

I was thinking, what is this?

Speaker 0

闹钟吗?

An alarm?

Speaker 0

也许钟的闹钟是不小心被设上的。

Maybe the clock's alarm was set by mistake or something.

Speaker 0

所以我敲了钟的顶部,结果根本不是闹钟。

And so hitting the clock on the top, there was no alarm.

Speaker 0

这根本不是个闹钟。

It wasn't an alarm clock.

Speaker 0

我一把抓起钟,连它一起拽到沙发上,它还在那儿咔嗒咔嗒响,特别怪。

I grabbed the clock and pulled it down onto the sofa with me, and it was going like that, really weird.

Speaker 0

钟上的指针,你知道的,秒针或者时针,都在疯狂地转。

And the hands on the clock, you know, like the second hand or the hour hand, were spinning round.

Speaker 0

指针转得飞快,一圈又一圈,停不下来。

The hands were turning really fast, going round and round and round.

Speaker 0

明白吗?

Okay?

Speaker 0

那时候我就想,这太吓人了,到底发生什么事了?

Now at that moment, I thought, okay, this is really scary because what's going on?

Speaker 0

我是不是误入了另一个维度什么的?

Have I entered some other dimension or something?

Speaker 0

时间在飞速流逝吗?

Is time flying by?

Speaker 0

这到底怎么回事?

What's going on?

Speaker 0

我当时又困惑又害怕。

I was so confused and so scared.

Speaker 0

我就不停地拍打时钟,想让它停下来,还按了钟背后的所有按钮。

And I just you know, I was like hitting the clock, trying to get it to stop, pressing all the buttons on the back of the clock.

Speaker 0

它就是停不下来。

It would not stop.

Speaker 0

指针还在不停地转圈。

The hands were going round and round.

Speaker 0

最后,我把钟背后的电池给拔了。

Eventually, I pulled out the batteries from the back of the clock.

Speaker 0

我打开钟的后盖,把电池拿了出来,它就停了。

I opened the back of the clock and pulled the batteries out, and and it stopped.

Speaker 0

谢天谢地。

Thank God.

Speaker 0

要是没停,就算我拔了电池它还走,那我真要吓坏了。

If it hadn't stopped, if I'd pulled the batteries out and it hadn't stopped, that would have really freaked me out.

Speaker 0

但幸好,指针就这么停了,我直接把钟扔一边,爬回床上,把被子裹得严严实实。

But, thankfully, the hands stopped like that, and I just threw the clock down and sort of climbed back in, you know, back into my bed, pulled the covers around me.

Speaker 0

后来,我又睡着了。

Eventually, I got to sleep again.

Speaker 0

第二天早上,天亮了我醒过来,又看了一眼钟,果然电池已经没了,其他什么都没变。

In the morning in the morning, I woke up when it was light, and I looked at the clock again, and certainly, the the batteries were out, and nothing else had changed.

Speaker 0

这事儿是不是太奇怪了?

Now how weird is that?

Speaker 0

不过,这事其实有解释。

But there is an explanation for it.

Speaker 0

这两件事其实都有合理的解释。

There is a rational explanation for both of these things.

Speaker 0

我们来分析一下。

Let's see.

Speaker 0

那座钟确实吓人,但指针乱转是因为它属于那种卫星授时钟。

The the clock, well, it was really scary when it happened, but the reason that the hands were flying around the clock is because this was one of those, like, satellite operated clocks.

Speaker 0

就是那种能自动校准时间、永远保持准确的钟。

You know, you get clocks that automatically adjust themselves so that they're the correct time all the time.

Speaker 0

这正是这样的一座钟。

Well, this was one of those clocks.

Speaker 0

而那天晚上,正好是时钟调整的日子。

And the fact is that that night was the night when the clocks changed.

Speaker 0

每年十月,我们是把钟往回拨还是往前拨呢?

So in October, we put the clocks when do we put them back or do we put them forwards?

Speaker 0

这样做的目的是为了让早晨的光线更充足。

Well, the idea is that we get more lights in the morning.

Speaker 0

所以我们是把时间往前调,我觉得。

So we change the time we put the clocks forward, I think.

Speaker 0

也就是说,早上八点的时候,实际上已经是九点了。

So that's in the morning when it's eight, it's actually nine.

Speaker 0

我们把时钟往回拨。

We put the clocks back.

Speaker 0

就是这样。

That's it.

Speaker 0

所以十月份的时候,我们会把时钟往回拨一小时。

So in October, we put the clocks back one hour.

Speaker 0

而那天晚上,正是时钟该往回拨的时候。

And it was actually that night when the clocks were due to go back.

Speaker 0

所以这个钟自动调整,从两点直接跳回了一点,一圈转了回去。

So this clock was automatically adjusting itself by, going all the way around from, you know, like, 02:00 all the way back to 01:00 or something.

Speaker 0

所以时钟才会这样乱转。

That's why the clock was changing.

Speaker 0

它自己自动重新调整了。

It was automatically readjusting itself.

Speaker 0

所以不是什么闹鬼的钟。

So it wasn't like a ghost clock.

Speaker 0

就是那种自动对时的卫星钟。

It was just one of those automatic satellite clocks.

Speaker 0

还好是这样。

Thank god for that.

Speaker 0

但我醒来时吓一跳,这也不是第一次发生了。

But then the other thing about me waking up frightened, and it hasn't it it it's not the first time it's happened to me.

Speaker 0

以前就发生过好几次,说不定你也遇到过。

It's happened to me a number of times before, and it may have happened to you.

Speaker 0

那种醒过来却动弹不得的现象,其实挺常见的,据说大概有一半的人都经历过。

Well, this this phenomena of waking up and yet being frozen is something that happens to people, and apparently affects something like fifty percent of us.

Speaker 0

我想不起这叫什么名字了,但它是睡眠和做梦周期中某个阶段被打断了。

I can't remember the name of this phenomenon, but it's, it's a kind of an interruption of a certain stage in our sleep and dreaming pattern.

Speaker 0

这时候你还在做梦,但意识却已经醒过来了。

And it's when we're still dreaming, and yet we're still awake at the same time.

Speaker 0

这感觉特别奇怪。

It's very strange.

Speaker 0

不过这种情况不常发生。

It doesn't happen that much.

Speaker 0

它的原理是,当你进入REM睡眠阶段,也就是快速眼动阶段并开始做梦时,大脑会释放一种化学物质,让身体暂时无法动弹。

But the effect is that your body is kind of paralyzed because when you're when you're sleeping and you go into the REM stage or the rapid eye movement stage and you start to dream, your body releases a kind of like a chemical, I guess, which keeps your body from moving.

Speaker 0

明白吗?

Okay?

Speaker 0

你做梦时可能觉得自己在马路上狂奔,但实际上身体躺在床上一动不动,因为大脑在抑制你的动作。

When you're dreaming, you might be dreaming you're running down the road, but your body doesn't actually run-in the bed because it's being inhibited by the brain.

Speaker 0

明白吗?

Okay?

Speaker 0

不过在你刚要入睡的时候,有时会出现一个阶段,你已经开始做梦了,但身体还没被抑制住。

Now, just before you go to sleep, sometimes there's there's a phase where you start dreaming, but your body is not inhibited.

Speaker 0

所以有时候你会踢腿,因为你觉得自己要摔倒了;或者猛地从床上弹起来,感觉像是要从树枝上掉下去;又或者腿动了一下,因为你梦见自己在踢足球。

So sometimes you might kick your leg because you think that you're you're you're gonna fall over, or you you jump up in bed because you feel like you're gonna fall off the branch of a tree, or your leg moves because you feel like you're playing football.

Speaker 0

明白吗?

Okay?

Speaker 0

这是因为你刚开始做梦,但身体还没被抑制住。

Now that is because you're starting to dream, but your body is not inhibited.

Speaker 0

所以在你完全醒过来之前,身体还能稍微动一动。

And so your body's able to move a little bit before you wake up.

Speaker 0

但一旦进入深度梦境,身体就会自动被抑制,避免你在梦里乱动,造成危险。

But when you go into the full dream state, your body inhibits itself so that it doesn't move, and so you don't, you know, dangerously move around while you're dreaming.

Speaker 0

不过,也有可能你睡醒了,但身体还处于被抑制的状态。

But it is possible for you to break, your sleep, wake up, and yet your body's still inhibited.

Speaker 0

这时候你就会感觉有什么东西压着你,动弹不得,像是被堵住了。

And that's when you experience this sensation that you're somehow being blocked, that there's something pushing down on you, preventing you from being able to move.

Speaker 0

但你其实还半梦半醒,所以才会幻觉到好像真有什么东西在那儿。

But you're still sort of in a in a slight dream state, which is why you might, for example, imagine that that there's something there.

Speaker 0

但躺在自己床上,身体动不了却清醒着,这感觉确实非常吓人。

And, of course, it's very alarming and very frightening to be paralyzed and yet awake in your own bed.

Speaker 0

很多人经历过这种情况,还以为是遇到了超自然的东西。

And many people have many people experience this, and they attribute it to some kind of paranormal visitation.

Speaker 0

有人说,感觉有人坐在胸口上,或者有恶魔、怪物压在身上。

People say that, you know, I felt like someone was sitting on my chest or that there was a demon or a monster sitting on my chest.

Speaker 0

其实那根本不是什么鬼怪来访。

Well, in fact, it wasn't a ghostly visitation.

Speaker 0

这只不过是一种有点罕见、但完全正常的睡眠麻痹现象。

It was just a strange, slightly rare, but completely normal case of something like sleep paralysis.

Speaker 0

我想应该叫这个名字吧。

I think that's what it's called.

Speaker 0

等我录完这段,我去查一下确认。

I'm I'll have a look when I finished recording this.

Speaker 0

我找了一个TED教育的视频,专门讲这个现象。

So I found a video from TED Education all about this.

Speaker 0

我做了一些调查。

I did a bit of research.

Speaker 0

我会把这段视频放到网站上,你们可以去看看相关内容。

So I'll post that video onto the website, so you can read about it.

Speaker 0

这种情况下,所有发生的事其实都有合理的解释,但确实挺吓人的。

So this in this case, there is a rational explanation for everything that happened, but it was pretty scary.

Speaker 0

这一点我可以肯定。

I can tell you that much.

Speaker 0

这是我经历过最害怕的时刻之一。

It was one of the times I've been most terrified.

Speaker 0

我觉得这跟睡前我和朋友聊的话题有关。

I think part of this is because of what I've been talking about with my friend before going to bed.

Speaker 0

那种夜里有人来访、就在这栋房子里的念头,一直在我脑子里挥之不去,后来我就开始做这样的梦。

And, like, this idea of being visited by someone in the night, in that very house stuck with me, and I started dreaming about it.

Speaker 0

等我醒来陷入睡眠瘫痪时,就下意识地觉得是鬼魂来造访了。

And then when I woke up with that sleep paralysis, I sort of interpreted it as a ghostly visitation.

Speaker 0

还有那个钟的事,其实只是巧合,一堆巧合凑在一起罢了。

And then the clock thing as well, I mean, it was just a coincidence, really, just a set of coincidences.

Speaker 0

但当这些巧合同时发生时,你的大脑就会觉得这不可能。

But when those coincidences happen at the same time, your mind sort of thinks this is impossible.

Speaker 0

我当时差点就相信自己遇见了鬼什么的。

And I was close to believing that I was in the presence of a ghost or something.

Speaker 0

特别吓人,但其实完全正常。

Very frightening, but in fact, completely normal.

Speaker 0

这就是我那次躺在床上动不了的经历。

So that was my frozen in the bed story.

Speaker 0

还有别的吗?

What else?

Speaker 0

好吧。

Okay.

Speaker 0

我跟你说说我去过的一次叫拉普沃斯步道的经历。

I'm gonna tell you about an experience that I've had called the Lapworth Walk.

Speaker 0

拉沃斯步行道。

The Lapworth Walk.

Speaker 0

好吧。

Okay.

Speaker 0

那什么是拉沃斯步行道呢?

Now what's the Lapworth Walk?

Speaker 0

拉沃斯步行道就是我以前常走的一条路,我哥哥和我一起走。

The Lapworth Walk is basically a walk that I used to do, and my brother and I used to do.

Speaker 0

这条路是从火车站到我父母家。

And the walk was from the train station to my parents' house.

Speaker 0

大概三英里,也就是四公里左右吧。

It's about three miles, about four kilometers, something like that.

Speaker 0

我们之所以得走这条路,是因为住的地方在乡下。

And the reason that we had to do this walk was because, we lived in the countryside.

Speaker 0

我们想去伯明翰——最近的城市——找朋友玩、去夜店或喝酒,唯一的办法就是从拉沃斯车站坐火车,那车站离家四公里远。

The only way that we could get into Birmingham, into the nearest city to go nightclubbing or to go drinking with our friends would be to catch a train from Lapworth Station, which was four kilometers away from the house, and then take the train to Birmingham.

Speaker 0

到了晚上,我们就得回到车站,然后沿着乡间小路走四公里,穿过一片荒凉的郊外,才能回到家。

And then at night, we would come back to the station, and we would have to walk from the station to our parents' place four kilometers through country roads in the middle of the countryside, in the middle of nowhere to get back to the house.

Speaker 0

明白吗?

Okay?

Speaker 0

你可能觉得,晚上在乡下散步挺浪漫的。

Now you might think that sounds lovely walking through the countryside at night.

Speaker 0

但实际上,这是我经历过最吓人的步行之一,而且我经常得走,每次几乎都被吓到,尤其是头几次。

In fact, it was one of the scariest walks that I've ever had to do, and I used to do it quite a lot, and it would scare me almost every time, particularly the first few times I did it.

Speaker 0

为了让你更好理解,我前十年基本是在伦敦长大的。

So just to give you some context, I grew up in London, basically, for the first ten years of my life.

Speaker 0

我是个地道的城里孩子。

I was a city boy.

Speaker 0

我在西伦敦长大,早就习惯了人多热闹的生活环境。

I grew up in in in West London, and I, you know, I was used to living in in a very populated place.

Speaker 0

后来我九岁或十岁的时候,我爸在米德兰兹找到了工作,我们就搬过去了。

Then when I was nine or 10, my dad got a job in the Midlands, and we moved.

Speaker 0

我们搬到了乡下的一栋大房子里,住在乡野边缘的生活跟城里完全不一样。

We moved to a big house in the countryside, which was quite different living out there on the edge of the countryside.

Speaker 0

跟住在城市里、周围都是人相比,简直是天壤之别。

Very different experience to living in the city surrounded by people.

Speaker 0

我们周围全是田野、树林、自然风光,什么都没有,只有乡下那种神秘莫测的寂静。

Now we were surrounded by fields, trees, nature, just nothing, just this of mystery of the countryside.

Speaker 0

我们住的那个地方,说它是镇子都算抬举了。

The town where we lived was well, it wasn't really a town.

Speaker 0

那其实就是一个小村子,沿着一条路分布着。

It was a tiny village on a road.

Speaker 0

那儿就只有个酒吧、一个小足球场,再加几户人家。

The only things there were a pub, and, a little football pitch, and a few houses.

Speaker 0

这个小村子后面,就是一片空旷的乡野。

And just to the back of this this little village was just open countryside, basically.

Speaker 0

在这片空旷的乡野中间,四公里外是最近的火车站,那条铁路连接着伦敦和伯明翰——英国第二大城市,也是我父母住的地方最近的大城市。

In the middle of that open countryside, four, kilometers away was the nearest train station, and this was the train line that went from London to Birmingham, Birmingham being the second biggest city in The UK, I think, and the nearest city to where my parents lived.

Speaker 0

所以我们是在乡下一片荒凉的房子里长大的。

So, we grew up in this in this very isolated house in the middle of the countryside.

Speaker 0

那儿没公交车,也没出租车。

There were no buses, no taxis out there.

Speaker 0

我和我哥哥都不会开车。

We didn't drive, my brother and I.

Speaker 0

所以,我们要想接触外界——去酒吧、夜店,见朋友——只能靠那个位于荒郊野外的火车站。

So the only way that we could access civilization, pubs, nightclubs, bars, and our friends was to go via this station in the middle of nowhere.

Speaker 0

刚开始去那儿倒还行。

So it was fine going there in the first place.

Speaker 0

爸妈会开车送我们,一路上穿过乡间,风景特别美。

Mom or dad would give us a lift in the car, and it would often be a very nice drive through the countryside.

Speaker 0

我们去镇上见朋友,在酒吧喝点东西,玩得特别开心。

We'd go out into town, meet our friends, drink in the pub, have a very good time.

Speaker 0

后来,要么我一个人,要么我哥一个人,或者我们俩一起去——但经常是我自己去,因为我哥在上大学,所以我经常一个人去伯明翰。

And then I you know, either me alone or him alone or the two of us, quite often it was me alone because my brother was at university, and so I used to go out into Birmingham on my own.

Speaker 0

所以我会和朋友们在酒吧里玩得很开心。

So I would be with my friends in the pub having a good time.

Speaker 0

我们都会一起去赶最后一班火车,通常是半夜十二点半。

We would all go to the station to get the last train home, which was typically at about 12:30.

Speaker 0

于是我们上了火车,朋友们都比我先下车,因为他们住的地方都在索利赫尔之类的站点。

And so we'd be on the train, and my friends would all get off before me because they all lived at, you know, stops in in Solly Hull and other places.

Speaker 0

他们先下了车,剩下我一个人留在火车上。

So they would get off the train before me, and then I would be left on the train on my own.

Speaker 0

首先,伯明翰本身挺危险的,以前那儿治安挺差的。

So first of all, being in Birmingham itself can be quite dangerous because it's it used to be quite a rough place.

Speaker 0

酒吧里经常能看到人打架,犯罪事件也时有发生。

You'd often see people fighting in pubs, crime, that kind of thing.

Speaker 0

所以在城里晃荡,本身就挺有风险的。

So just being out in the city could be quite dangerous.

Speaker 0

所以在城里得格外小心。

So you have to be careful in the city.

Speaker 0

但到了凌晨一点,我就一个人坐在火车上,驶向漆黑的乡下。

But then by 01:00 in the morning, I would find myself on a train alone heading into the darkness into the countryside.

Speaker 0

确实如此。

We would.

Speaker 0

火车到拉普沃思站时,通常就我一个人下车,因为那片乡下根本没人住。

The train would arrive at Lapworth Station, and usually, I would be the only person to get off because no one else lived in that part of the countryside.

Speaker 0

于是我下了车。

So I'd get off the train.

Speaker 0

火车开走后,我突然一个人留在了乡间车站里。

The train would leave, and then suddenly, I'm alone in this station in the middle of the countryside.

Speaker 0

明白吗?

Okay?

Speaker 0

然后我得在黑暗中走路回家。

And I'd have to walk, through the darkness.

Speaker 0

我来给你描述一下这段路,你就知道为什么特别吓人了。

So I'm gonna talk you through the walk to give you an idea of why it's scary.

Speaker 0

你现在可能觉得自己是个硬汉,挺能扛的,听我这么说,心里肯定在说:得了吧,卢克。

Now, you're sort of a macho man or a bloke who thinks he's pretty tough, yeah, you're probably listening to this and going, come on, Luke.

Speaker 0

别怂啊,兄弟。

Don't be a pussy, mate.

Speaker 0

来吧。

Come on.

Speaker 0

听起来也没那么可怕。

Doesn't sound that bad.

Speaker 0

不就是晚上在乡下散个步嘛。

Just a nice walk in the countryside.

Speaker 0

是啊。

Yeah.

Speaker 0

没问题。

Fine.

Speaker 0

真没那么吓人。

It doesn't sound that bad.

Speaker 0

但不知为什么,那时候真的特别吓人。

But for some reason, at the time, it's really scary.

Speaker 0

确实如此。

It is.

Speaker 0

你一个人孤零零的。

You're on your own.

Speaker 0

四周只有你一个人,一片漆黑。

It's just you in the darkness.

Speaker 0

你得独自走进那片荒无人烟的地方。

You gotta walk off into the middle of nowhere.

Speaker 0

不知为啥,这特别吓人,因为这跟人的本能完全相反,对吧?

For some reason, that's frightening because it goes against your basic instincts, doesn't it?

Speaker 0

人的本能就是待在有光的地方,待在能看清楚四周的地方,而那种彻底漆黑的地方,最好别去,因为你根本不知道里面有什么。

Your instinct is just sort of stay where there's where there's light, stay where you can see things, and where it's completely pitch black, it's probably best not to go there because you don't know what's in there.

Speaker 0

尤其是你17岁的时候,想象力特别丰富,对吧?

Especially when you're 17 years years old, you know, you you're you're fairly you've got an active imagination.

Speaker 0

这确实挺吓人的。

It can be quite scary.

Speaker 0

一开始那段路要穿过车站附近的小村子,平时还好。

So the first part of the walk would be through this little village near the station, and that was normally fine.

Speaker 0

你只是从一户户人家旁边走过。

You're kind of walking past houses.

Speaker 0

大家都睡了。

Everyone's in bed.

Speaker 0

全都在睡觉。

They're all asleep.

Speaker 0

一般都没事。

It's normally okay.

Speaker 0

你只希望别碰上人,因为在乡下,遇见别人可是挺少见的。

You just hope that you're not gonna see anyone because in the countryside, if you see other people, it's it's quite rare.

Speaker 0

所以有点尴尬。

So it's a bit awkward.

Speaker 0

所以你会穿过小镇,走到镇子另一头,路灯就全没了。

So you'd walk through the town, and then you'd get to the other end of the town, and the street lights would just stop.

Speaker 0

再也没路灯了。

So no more street lights.

Speaker 0

接着你走上一条通往乡下的路,路的尽头一片漆黑。

And you'd start walking down a road into the countryside, and it's just black at the end of the road.

Speaker 0

你从光明里走出来,走进了黑暗。

You walk away from the light into the darkness.

Speaker 0

明白吗?

Okay?

Speaker 0

你知道接下来还得走大约三十分钟,全程都是黑漆漆的。

And you real you know that you've got about thirty minutes of walking ahead of you just through through the darkness.

Speaker 0

就像我之前说的,这完全违背人的本能。

So as I've said before, it goes against your basic instincts.

Speaker 0

谁也不想往一片漆黑里走,但我别无选择。

You don't want to walk into pitch darkness, but, I had to do it.

Speaker 0

所以我走过那里,第一段是个拱桥。

So I walked through, and the first part would be a a bridge, a humpback bridge.

Speaker 0

这座桥坡度特别陡,横跨一条运河。

So that this is a very steep bridge going over a canal.

Speaker 0

我得爬上桥,每次、每次、每次都很害怕桥下有什么,因为能听见水在桥下哗哗溅响。

And, so I'd have to walk up the bridge, and I'd always, always, always be scared that there was something under the bridge because you could hear the sound of the water splashing beneath the bridge.

Speaker 0

月光下你能隐约看到周围的东西,但中间却有大片大片的黑暗。

And you you can sort of see some things around you in the moonlight, but then there would be large patches of darkness.

Speaker 0

你知道那里就是一片空荡荡的漆黑空间。

And you know that there's just a kind of open dark space.

Speaker 0

你的脑子会自己吓自己。

It could be you know, your mind plays tricks on you.

Speaker 0

你总觉得桥底下藏着什么,对吧?

You think there's something under the bridge, isn't there?

Speaker 0

通常我都会走得特别快。

And, typically, I'd be walking extremely quickly.
