Speaker 0

大家好。

Hello, ladies and gentlemen.

Speaker 0

您正在收听的是卢克英语播客的又一期节目。

You are listening to another episode of Luke's English podcast.

Speaker 0

我已经有好一阵子没录新节目了,对吧?

It's been a long time, hasn't it, since I recorded an episode?

Speaker 0

可能您也有一段时间没听我说话了。

It may have been quite a long time since you listened to me talking talking to you.

Speaker 0

我想着,既然有点空闲时间,就赶紧录点东西,传到网上,你们可以下载下来听。

Well, I thought that, since I had a brief bit of time, a brief bit of spare time that I'd quickly record something, stick it on the Internet so that you can download it and listen to it.

Speaker 0

这期节目我没什么特别的计划。

I don't really have any particular agenda for this episode.

Speaker 0

我只是想跟你们说一声,我还好好的。

I'm just talking to you just to let you know that I'm still alive.

Speaker 0

我还在这儿呢。

I'm still here.

Speaker 0

我的嗓子还管用。

My voice is still working.

Speaker 0

我的脑子也没罢工。

My brain is still working.

Speaker 0

脑袋还好好长在脖子上,一切正常。

My head is still attached to my body, and it's all working fine.

Speaker 0

我还在,Luke的英语播客也活得好好的,继续更新中。

I still exist, and Luke's English podcast is very much alive, and kicking.

Speaker 0

好吧?

Alright?

Speaker 0

所以这一期的主要目的就是跟大家打个招呼,再耐心等一等,新节目很快就会上线。

So that's that's the main point for this one is just to say hello and, just hold on for a little bit longer because new episodes will arrive soon.

Speaker 0

最近我确实安静了一阵子,原因有不少。

Now I've been a bit quiet recently for a number of reasons.

Speaker 0

如果你最近访问过我的网站,应该注意到了上面有一封信。

If you visited my website recently, you will have noticed that there was a, letter on there.

Speaker 0

我给你们每个人都写了一封信,解释了为什么最近没录新节目——比如我的嗓子状态很差。

I wrote a letter to all of you in which I explained that, for example, I hadn't recorded an episode recently because my voice was, was in bad condition.

Speaker 0

我感冒了,还得了流感,喉咙疼得厉害,直接失声了。

I had a cold, I caught the flu, and it gave me a very bad throat, and I lost my voice.

Speaker 0

所以当时我本来打算就这么录了。

And so I was gonna speak it like that.

Speaker 0

哦,大家好。

Oh, hello, everybody.

Speaker 0

这样可没法录播客。

And that's no good for recording podcasts.

Speaker 0

我只好让嗓子好好休息。

I had to rest my voice.

Speaker 0

从那以后,我已经恢复了。

Since then, I've recovered.

Speaker 0

现在好多了。

I'm much better.

Speaker 0

但接着,我去了美国度假。

But then, of course, I went on a holiday to The States.

Speaker 0

我去了纽约。

I went to New York.

Speaker 0

那地方真是太棒了。

That was amazing.

Speaker 0

我正在准备一期关于那趟旅行的播客,很快就会录制并上传。

And I am preparing a podcast all about that, which I'll be recording soon and uploading.

Speaker 0

我会把我在纽约的所见所闻全都告诉你,那真的是世界上最令人惊叹的城市之一。

I'm gonna tell you everything that happened, exactly what it was like being in New York, one of the most amazing cities in the world, really.

Speaker 0

我知道去纽约这种事听起来有点老生常谈。

I know it's a bit of a cliche to go to New York.

Speaker 0

大家都知道纽约很棒,这谁都知道。

You know, it's kind of like everyone knows New York is amazing.

Speaker 0

但你真去了那儿一看,才会明白,真的美得让人震撼。

But actually, you go there and have a look at it, wow, it really is stunning.

Speaker 0

简直就像置身于电影里一样。

I mean, it's like being in a movie.

Speaker 0

我会录一期节目,讲讲我在纽约的旅行经历,把每一个细节都告诉你,让你真正感受到纽约是什么样子。

So I will record an episode about my experience of traveling in New York, and I'll tell you every little detail about that and give you an idea of what it's really like in New York.

Speaker 0

接下来就为大家带来这期内容。

So that's coming up.

Speaker 0

我还有很多其他主题的节目正在策划中。

I also have other episodes planned on different subjects.

Speaker 0

比如说,我还有不少关于英国喜剧的内容。

For example, I've got more stuff on British comedy.

Speaker 0

我打算做一期关于《蒙提·派森的飞行马戏团》的,可能还会讲讲史蒂夫·库根。

I'm gonna do something about Monty Python's flying circus and some other things, maybe something on Steve Coogan.

Speaker 0

我还没完成之前开始的那一系列英国俚语的节目。

I still have to finish the series of episodes that I have started about British slang.

Speaker 0

你还记得吗?

Remember that?

Speaker 0

但我还没做完。

But I haven't finished that.

Speaker 0

这个必须得补上。

That's that has to be done.

Speaker 0

我最近做的一期是关于语法和时态的,当时答应过要接着讲自然语流中的发音,比如我们怎么连读长动词短语和各种动词结构。

One of the more recent episodes I did was about, grammar and verb tenses, and I promised that I would finish that one off by going through pronunciation of sort of natural connected speech in the way that we pronounce sort of long verb phrases and different verb structures.

Speaker 0

这个接下来也会做。

So that's gonna come up.

Speaker 0

而且,我脑子里还有一大堆别的想法,想跟你分享。

And also, I've just got loads of other ideas in my head that I'd like to share with you.

Speaker 0

但就像我在这期里说的,我其实没什么特定的计划。

But as I said in this episode, I don't really have any agenda.

Speaker 0

我就想随性一点,放空自己。

I'm just gonna let my self go.

Speaker 0

让思绪带着我到处走,就这么跟你聊一聊,因为我刚好有点空闲时间,不多,就一点点,足够我插上麦克风,不打任何草稿,随便说点什么,这就是结果。

I'm just gonna let my mind take me wherever it goes and I'm just gonna talk to you because I've got a little bit of time, just a little bit, enough time for me to be able to just plug the microphone in and do something without planning it at all, and this is the result of it.

Speaker 0

明白吗?

Okay?

Speaker 0

你可能听得见背景里有点音乐。

You might be able to hear some music in the background.

Speaker 0

我录这期的时候放着音乐。

I've got music playing while I'm recording this.

Speaker 0

我还没决定要不要把这段音乐保留在播客里。

I haven't decided if I'm gonna keep the music track on the podcast or not.

Speaker 0

既然这主要是我想跟你分享一些近况,我就想着背景里放点音乐也不错,这样你不用每句话都紧盯着听,有点氛围音乐反而刚好。

Since this is just a kind of chance for me to give you some news, I thought it might be nice to put a bit of music in the background, maybe because you don't have to focus on every single word and so it's fine if there's a bit of atmospheric music going on.

Speaker 0

你听到的所有音乐,都是我弟弟詹姆斯制作的。

All of the stuff that you're hearing has been produced by my brother James.

Speaker 0

你认识他。

So you know him.

Speaker 0

以前在播客里你听过他的声音。

You've heard him on podcasts before.

Speaker 0

我过去也给你放过他的音乐,但现在你听到的是他最近的新作品。

I have played you some of his music in the past, but you're now listening to it, and this is some more of his recent stuff.

Speaker 0

我觉得挺不错的。

I think it's pretty good.

Speaker 0

你觉得呢?

Don't you agree?

Speaker 0

这算是纯器乐的嘻哈风格。

It's kind of instrumental hip hop.

Speaker 0

他平时会从自己的黑胶唱片里采样片段。

What he does is he samples records from his record collection.

Speaker 0

他收藏了大量黑胶唱片。

He's got a massive collection of vinyl records.

Speaker 0

所以他都是从黑胶里采音。

So he samples his vinyl.

Speaker 0

他会挑出歌曲里特别冷门的小段落。

He finds, like, really obscure little bits from songs.

Speaker 0

把这些片段采进MPC采样器,再重新编排,做出新的嘻哈曲子。

He samples them into an MPC, acai sampler machine thing, and then he kind of creates new bits of hip hop and produces these tracks.

Speaker 0

他没跟任何唱片公司签约。

And he's not signed to any labels or anything.

Speaker 0

我觉得他正在制作一张EP。

I think he's producing a kind of EP.

Speaker 0

到时候会做成CD,可能拿去卖。

That's that will be a CD that he may be able to sell.

Speaker 0

也许有一天,这些曲子会被刻成黑胶唱片,让DJ们也能用上。

Maybe one day he'll have some of these things pressed onto vinyl and DJs will be able to use them.

Speaker 0

我觉得配上说唱会特别棒,你觉得呢?

I think they'd be really good with some rapping over the top, don't you think?

Speaker 0

我也这么觉得。

I think so.

Speaker 0

如果你是个说唱歌手,手里有一堆押韵的词,却找不到合适的伴奏,欢迎联系我,说不定你能用上我弟弟吉姆制作的这些音乐。

If you are a rapper and you're just out there, you've got loads of rhymes but you don't have any good backing tracks, get in touch with me because you might be able to use some of the music that you can hear that was produced by my brother Jim.

Speaker 0

他真的很厉害。

He's brilliant.

Speaker 0

这些音乐很棒,我觉得特别适合搭配卢克的英语播客,氛围感很强,情绪也很到位。

The music's great, and it's a perfect accompaniment to Luke's English podcast, I think, because they're quite atmospheric, quite moody.

Speaker 0

没有歌词,所以我可以直接在上面讲话。

There's no lyrics, and so I could just talk over the top of it.

Speaker 0

我选这段其实是因为我特别喜欢这几首曲子,它们有种神秘又深沉的感觉。

I chose this selection here actually because I just really like these particular tracks because they're they sound sort of mysterious and atmospheric.

Speaker 0

每次听到这些曲子,我总会想到某种悬疑故事或者侦探小说。

And when I listen to these tunes, it always makes me think of kind of like a mystery story or a detective story.

Speaker 0

我早就一直在想,要不要写一个发生在七十年代纽约的侦探悬疑故事。

I've been thinking about this for ages, some kind of detective mystery set in, like, New York in the nineteen seventies.

Speaker 0

总有一天,我会把这个故事写出来。

One of these days, I'm gonna write this story.

Speaker 0

这会是个阴暗神秘的侦探剧,而这些音乐简直是为它量身定做的背景配乐。

It's gonna be a sort of dark mysterious detective drama, and this is the perfect background music for it.

Speaker 0

故事我还没写,所以现在我只是在这段音乐上随便聊点废话。

I haven't written that story, so instead, I'm just sort of talking nonsense over the top of the music instead.

Speaker 0

这当然算不上真正的替代品,但至少你能明白我的意思。

So it's not really any substitute, but still you get the idea.

Speaker 0

对。

Right.

Speaker 0

这就是我要说的音乐。

So that's the music.

Speaker 0

对。

Right.

Speaker 0

我最近怎么没做任何播客呢?

Why why haven't I done any podcasts recently?

Speaker 0

我已经说过,我之前生病了,然后去度假,现在度假回来,工作多得忙不过来。

Well, I've explained that I was ill, then I went on holiday, and now I'm back from holiday, I'm just incredibly snowed under with work.

Speaker 0

工作堆得像山一样,忙得不可开交,手上有一大堆事,根本抽不出一个完整的下午来认真做一期播客。

I'm snowed under, I'm up to my eyes in work, I'm up to my neck in work, I've just got loads of stuff stuff on my plate at the moment, which means that I can't devote, you know, like a solid afternoon to doing a proper podcast.

Speaker 0

我以前就说过很多次了,做一期像样的播客其实挺费时间的。

I've told you so many times before, it does take quite a lot of time to produce a proper podcast.

Speaker 0

你说的‘像样的播客’是什么意思,卢克?

What do you mean by proper podcast, Luke?

Speaker 0

《卢克的英语播客》所有节目都可以算作是像样的播客。

All of the episodes of Luke's English podcast could be considered to be proper podcasts.

Speaker 0

也不完全是,对我来说,真正出色的那些,都是我事先做了规划的。

Well, not exactly because for me, the really good ones are the ones that I sort of plan some stuff for.

Speaker 0

你知道的,我会做些研究。

You know, I do a bit of research.

Speaker 0

我会提前规划,让内容更有条理,真正有料、有见解、有深度。

I plan things so that it's quite sort of structured and there's some genuine content and insight and depth in there.

Speaker 0

在我看来,这才是真正的播客。

That's that's what makes a proper podcast from my point of view.

Speaker 0

但说来奇怪,从你的角度看,可能完全不一样。

But strangely enough, from your point of view, it might be completely different.

Speaker 0

事实上,就像我之前说的,那些最受欢迎的集数,往往是我根本没打算好内容的。

In fact, as I've said before, some of the more popular episodes are the ones where I have absolutely no agenda at all.

Speaker 0

我只是随口聊聊。

I just sort of talk off the top of my head.

Speaker 0

我个人觉得,录之前还是该准备一下,不然就会原地打转,反复说同样的话。

I think personally that I should do some preparation before recording because otherwise I'll just go round and round in circles repeating myself.

Speaker 0

所以就是没时间。

So not enough time.

Speaker 0

为什么?

Why?

Speaker 0

因为我最近工作多得忙不过来。

Because I'm really snowed under with work.

Speaker 0

快到大学学期末了。

It's near the end of the university semester.

Speaker 0

这才是主要原因。

That's the main thing.

Speaker 0

不过还有其他事情要处理。

But, there are other things too.

Speaker 0

对。

Right.

Speaker 0

所以是学期末了。

So end of the university semester.

Speaker 0

这意味着我得给学生们出一套考题。

That means that I had to produce a test for my students.

Speaker 0

所以我出了一份试卷。

So I wrote a test.

Speaker 0

几周前发给他们,大家都埋头苦干了一番。

I gave it to them a couple of weeks ago, they all slaved away.

Speaker 0

我有大概两百个学生,说不定还更多,所有人都完成了这份试卷。

I've got something like 200 students, maybe more, and so they've all done this test.

Speaker 0

试卷里有个阅读部分,要求他们读一篇文章,然后回答相关问题。

The test involved a, a reading section where they had to read a text and sort of write answers to questions.

Speaker 0

有些问题挺深入的,得让他们分析信息,考察了多种不同的阅读能力。

Some of the answers were quite in-depth, they had to interpret the information, they had to you know it tested various different reading skills.

Speaker 0

除了阅读部分,还有语法部分,考他们对英语语法的理解和运用;另外还有一个写作部分,要求他们针对我给的题目写一篇大约三百词的短文。

So there's the reading section, then there's a grammar section where they had to answer various questions testing their knowledge and use of grammar in English and as well as that there was a writing section that's where they had to write about 300 words as an essay in response to one of the questions that I'd given them.

Speaker 0

题目都跟英国的政治体制有关,比如要不要废除君主制、苏格兰独立问题、英国在欧洲的地位,诸如此类。

Questions were about things like the political system in The UK, debates over whether Britain should abolish its monarchy or not, the question of Scottish independence, Britain's position in Europe, and this kind of thing.

Speaker 0

全是政治和时事话题。

Lots of politics and current affairs.

Speaker 0

所以我现在面前堆了一大摞考卷,整整一大摞。

So what I now have is a huge pile, a massive pile of exam papers on my table.

Speaker 0

大概有两百份试卷等着我批改。

I've got something like 200 exam papers that need to be marked.

Speaker 0

两百篇三百字左右的作文,这工作量实在太大了。

200, 200 written essays of about 300 words in length, that's a massive amount of work.

Speaker 0

说实话,我现在根本不该在这儿录这个播客。

I to be honest, I shouldn't be doing this podcast right now.

Speaker 0

我没时间了。

I don't have time.

Speaker 0

我真该好好批改那些作文才行。

I should be, marking all those essays, to be honest with you.

Speaker 0

我得马上开始干了,因为不到两周我就得把作文发回去。

I need to get started now because in just less than two weeks, I've got to give the essays back.

Speaker 0

我得把所有人的成绩都发出去。

I have to give them all their results.

Speaker 0

我得把所有这些都批改完。

I've got to grade them all.

Speaker 0

我还得评他们今年做的展示。

I have to grade their presentations that they did this year.

Speaker 0

所以我现在有堆得像山一样的事情要处理。

So I've got tons of stuff to do.

Speaker 0

所以你看,我被绑住了,根本抽不出身来跟你做这个播客。

That's why I've, you know, my hands are tied, and I haven't been able to talk to you on a podcast.

Speaker 0

这也解释了为什么这一期节目这么乱,我自己都不清楚接下来要讲什么。

That also may account for the fact that this episode is completely unstructured and I don't know quite where I'm going.

Speaker 0

我想我也就是跟你聊聊最近的状况。

I suppose I'm just telling you some news.

Speaker 0

要是条件理想的话,这些内容本该比现在有趣得多。

In a perfect world this would be a lot more interesting and fascinating than it actually is.

Speaker 0

我始终想着得让你一直听得下去。

I'm always aware that I want to keep you gripped in.

Speaker 0

我始终都想让你一直听下去。

I want to keep you locked in at all times.

Speaker 0

一直听我的新节目——Radio LEP。

Locked into radio LEP which is something I've just created.

Speaker 0

Radio LEP?

Radio LEP?

Speaker 0

那是什么东西?

What is that?

Speaker 0

是Luke的英语播客电台。

Radio Luke's English podcast.

Speaker 0

这名字其实有点怪,到底算什么?

Doesn't really make sense because what is it?

Speaker 0

是电台还是播客?

Radio or is it a podcast?

Speaker 0

其实呢,它就是个播客。

Well, it's a podcast.

Speaker 0

但我还是喜欢叫它Radio LEP,因为我特别喜欢广播这种感觉。

But I like to call it Radio LEP just because I love the idea of radio.

Speaker 0

广播现在怎么了?

What has happened to radio?

Speaker 0

广播不是还很兴旺吗?

It's still going strong, isn't it, radio?

Speaker 0

广播依然很棒。

It's still great.

Speaker 0

广播依然特别出色。

It's still brilliant.

Speaker 0

某种程度上,我更喜欢广播而不是电视。

In a way, I prefer radio to TV.

Speaker 0

现在的电视不都挺无聊、枯燥、没意思的吗?

TV is just sort of dull and boring and stupid, isn't it, these days?

Speaker 0

至少广播这种形式,单纯地对着麦克风说话,反而有种纯粹的感觉。

At least with radio, there's some something kind of pure about just talking into a microphone like this.

Speaker 0

你能从中感受到一种真实的人与人之间的连接。

There's some genuine human connection that you can get from it.

Speaker 0

广播真的是一种很特别的东西。

Radio is a really special thing.

Speaker 0

无论你走到哪儿,带个小收音机,就能听人说话,听人给你推荐各种音乐。

You can just take a little radio with you wherever you are and you can listen to people talking, listen to people presenting different bits of music to you.

Speaker 0

广播真的很酷。

Radio is really cool.

Speaker 0

而且,广播比电视酷多了,想想上世纪五十年代、六十年代,摇滚乐刚兴起的时候。

Also, is like radio is much cooler than TV because think about, for example, the nineteen fifties, the nineteen sixties, the birth of rock and roll music.

Speaker 0

那时候那些音乐是怎么传开的?

How was that music spread around?

Speaker 0

就是靠广播节目,地下电台或者海盗电台,这类渠道传播开的。

It was spread around through radio shows, underground radio shows or pirate radio shows, things like that.

Speaker 0

我觉得广播一直都是最酷的媒介,你肯定也同意。

Radio has always been the coolest medium, I think you'll agree.

Speaker 0

所以我才喜欢做电台节目的想法。

That's why I like the idea of, like, doing a radio show.

Speaker 0

挺有趣、刺激又酷的。

It's kind of fun and exciting and cool.

Speaker 0

所以有时候我录《卢克英语》播客时,会想象自己正在为一家国际电台LEP做现场直播。

So, sometimes I sort of imagine when I'm doing Luke's English podcast that I'm doing some kind of live radio broadcasts, international radio station LEP.

Speaker 0

听起来不错吧?

It sounds quite good, doesn't it?

Speaker 0

我觉得确实如此。

I think I think so.

Speaker 0

对。

Yes.

Speaker 0

所以,大学学期快结束了,意味着一大堆工作等着处理。

So yes, the university semester is coming to a close, which means that loads of work has to be done.

Speaker 0

但除此之外,我还接了另一个项目。

But as well as that, I've also got another project on.

Speaker 0

我一直在为牛津大学的一个暑期学校编写一门商务英语课程。

I've been writing a business English course for an Oxford summer school.

Speaker 0

对吧?

Right?

Speaker 0

你们当中有些人听这个节目时,可能年轻时参加过暑期学校,也许是十几岁或者学生时代。

You know, some of you listening to this, you may have gone to summer schools when you were younger, maybe when you were a teenager or a student.

Speaker 0

英国有很多非常棒的暑期学校,夏天特别适合去参加。

Britain has loads of really great summer schools for people to attend during the summer.

Speaker 0

学生们会来英格兰,在牛津郡待上几周,上午学英语,下午则参加各种活动之类的。

They come to England, spend a couple of weeks in Oxfordshire and maybe study English in the morning and in the afternoon they do different activities and stuff like that.

Speaker 0

不过呢,牛津某所暑期学校有一门课是专门给大一点的青少年设计的。

Well, there's this one course at a particular summer school in Oxford which is for older teenagers.

Speaker 0

这些学生大概十七岁,课程内容主打商务英语。

They're about 17 years old and the course is focused on business English.

Speaker 0

后来这所学校联系了我,邀请我为他们设计这门课程。

And they asked me, this college contacted me and they asked me to write the course for them.

Speaker 0

所以我从二月就开始做了。

So I started doing that in February.

Speaker 0

花了我好几个月的时间。

It's taken me months.

Speaker 0

我写了超过六十个小时的课程内容。

I've written over sixty hours of course material.

Speaker 0

这门课完全是关于商务英语的。

The course is all about business English.

Speaker 0

重点是教你如何创办自己的企业。

So business English with a specific focus on building your own business.

Speaker 0

明白吗?

Okay?

Speaker 0

内容涵盖了商业话题、词汇和技能,比如参加会议、谈判、分析财务、研究国际营销、全球市场和自由贸易等等。

So it's a combination of sort of business topics, vocabulary and business skills for things like taking part in meetings, negotiating, looking at finance, looking at international marketing, global markets and free trade and all that kind of thing.

Speaker 0

同时,学生们还要完成一个长期项目,就是自己创办一家公司。

And with combined with that, a sort of long running project in which the students have to set up their own business.

Speaker 0

现在这个生意是虚构的。

Now it's it's an imaginary business.

Speaker 0

不是真的开公司,但学生得想象自己要提出一个全新的商业点子,把它发展起来,做市场调研,然后写出商业计划和财务计划。

It's not real, they're not actually creating a real business but they have to imagine that they're going to have to come up with a new business idea, develop it, do some market research and then developing a business plan for it and a financial plan.

Speaker 0

最终,他们还得面对一群投资人做汇报。

And ultimately they will have to then go in front of a group of investors.

Speaker 0

这些投资人其实就是学院的老师。

The investors will be like teaching staff at the college.

Speaker 0

学生们分组去向这些投资人展示自己的商业构想,目标是争取投资,让这个点子变成真正赚钱的生意,最后人人都能成为百万富翁。

The students in teams will go in front of these investors and they'll present their business ideas with a view view to getting an investment which will then ultimately allow them to make the business into a real profitable venture and then they'll all become millionaires.

Speaker 0

这就是整个设计的初衷。

That's the that's the idea.

Speaker 0

他们不仅学商业知识,还掌握经营企业所需的各种词汇,理解领导力、管理这些概念,同时练习开会、做高质量的演示等等。

So they're learning about business, they're learning all the right vocabulary that you need to run a business, to understand concepts like leadership and management and also to to take part in meetings, to do really good presentations and stuff like that.

Speaker 0

这可是个大工程。

So that's a massive thing.

Speaker 0

我完全是从头开始写的。

I've just written the entire thing from scratch.

Speaker 0

他们每天都有课程,涵盖不同的商业主题。

So they have like lessons every day in which they cover different business topics.

Speaker 0

教材里还融入了指导内容,帮助他们制定商业计划并展示创意以争取投资。

There's coaching built into the material for developing a business plan and presenting business ideas in order to get investment.

Speaker 0

我觉得,等这些青少年完成这门课后,他们会受益匪浅。

Ultimately, I think when these teenagers have finished this course, they'll be in a really good position at the end.

Speaker 0

他们会变得更加有见识,掌握一套扎实的技能基础,未来真的用英语做商业时能派上用场。

They'll be much more, knowledgeable and they'll have like this sort of basis of skills, this foundation of skills that they could use in the future to actually do business in English.

Speaker 0

真希望我那时候还是个青少年,这样我就能亲自上这门课了——就算是我写的,我也特别想参加。

I wish that I was a teenager so that I could do this course because, even though I wrote it, I I would love to do it.

Speaker 0

看着就挺有意思的。

It looks fun.

Speaker 0

这事儿就是我最近在忙的,差不多快搞定了。

So that's what I've been doing and I've almost finished that.

Speaker 0

我还得再处理几件小事,这事儿就彻底完成了。

I just need to do just a few other things on that and then it's done.

Speaker 0

就这样了。

So there we go.

Speaker 0

我最近在我网站上发的那封信里也提到,我要结婚了。

I also revealed in the letter that I wrote on my website recently that I'm getting married.

Speaker 0

没错。

That's right.

Speaker 0

恭喜我吧。

Congratulations to me.

Speaker 0

我订婚了。

I'm engaged.

Speaker 0

我马上就要结婚了。

I'm gonna get married.

Speaker 0

所有听到这个消息而心碎的姑娘们,我真是过意不去。

I'm sorry to all of the the the girls out there who are heartbroken by this news.

Speaker 0

我依然爱着你们大家,你知道的。

I still love you all, you know.

Speaker 0

我依然爱着你们所有人,但我真的要结婚了。

I still love all of you, but I'm I'm getting married.

Speaker 0

我的意思是,这事儿挺棒的,对吧?

I mean, it's it's great, isn't it?

Speaker 0

这是个好消息。

It's great news.

Speaker 0

是的。

Yes.

Speaker 0

没错。

It is.

Speaker 0

谢谢大家发来的祝贺和祝福消息。

Thank you for the congratulation the congratulatory messages and things like that.

Speaker 0

婚礼定在明年,所以我有足够的时间好好焦虑一下了。

That's happening next year, so we've got plenty I've got plenty of time to get very stressed out about that.

Speaker 0

我表弟今年晚些时候要结婚,我是伴郎,这意味着我得准备一段伴郎致辞,光是想想就让我挺头疼的。

My cousin is getting married later this year and I'm the best man so that means that I have to come up with a best man speech which is worrying me already.

Speaker 0

我已经做过好几次噩梦,梦见自己在致辞时一个合适的词都想不出来。

I've already had bad dreams and nightmares about not being able to think of any good things to say in the speech.

Speaker 0

我不清楚你们那儿怎么样,但在英国,伴郎致辞特别重要。

I don't know what it's like in your country but in The UK the best man speech is very important.

Speaker 0

得既搞笑又感人,还得打动人心。

They have to be very funny and it has to be very touching and moving.

Speaker 0

所以这活儿真不轻松,我得好好琢磨一下。

So it's quite a big task to do the best man speech so I'll be working on that.

Speaker 0

对,最近确实忙得不可开交。

So yes, very busy at the moment.

Speaker 0

我不太想老提这事儿,但最近我有点沉默,原因就在这儿。

I hate to keep going on about it but that's my reason for being a bit quiet lately.

Speaker 0

明白吧?

Okay?

Speaker 0

等这部分工作搞定,我就又能继续做播客的新一期了,包括那些关于短语动词的专题。

Once this work is out of the way I'll be able to get back on to doing more episodes of the podcast, including phrasal verb episodes.

Speaker 0

我会继续做下去,还有之前提到的其他所有内容。

So I'm gonna carry on with that and all of the other episodes that I've mentioned earlier on.

Speaker 0

对。

Yes.

Speaker 0

不过今天就说到这儿吧。

But that's it now.

Speaker 0

好。

Okay.

Speaker 0

我差不多把最近的近况都跟你说了。

I've I've pretty much given you my news.

Speaker 0

其实我还有很多别的事可以聊,但都得留到以后的播客里再说吧。

I mean, I've I've got plenty of other things to say, but they'll have to wait for, subsequent podcasts, I think.

Speaker 0

我很喜欢收到你们的消息和评论。

I love getting your messages and comments.

Speaker 0

我真的很喜欢。

I absolutely love it.

Speaker 0

最近,我收到很多网站上的留言。

Recently, I've been getting lots of comments on the website.

Speaker 0

现在网站的流量真的上来了。

The website's really taking off now.

Speaker 0

每天都有人在那里留言。

Every day I get comments posted there.

Speaker 0

我每天大概能收到三千到四千次页面浏览,这真是太好了。

I'm getting sort of between 3,004 views on the web page every day which is really great.

Speaker 0

最近我达成了几个重要的里程碑。

I passed a couple of big milestones recently.

Speaker 0

什么叫里程碑?

What's a milestone?

Speaker 0

里程碑就是进步的标志。

A milestone is a a marker of progress.

Speaker 0

明白吗?

Okay?

Speaker 0

比如,一百年前,如果你步行或骑马进城,每走一英里,路边就会立一块白石碑,告诉你离城市还有多远。

For example, if you're travelling into the city, let's say a 100 ago, if you were walking into the city or travelling by horse, every mile there would be a white stone placed next to the road which would give you an indication of how far you have to go before you can get to the city.

Speaker 0

有时候石碑上会写着城市的名字,比如‘伦敦15英里’。

Sometimes they write the name of the city like London 15 miles for example.

Speaker 0

所以里程碑,其实就是进步的标志。

So a milestone is a marker of progress basically.

Speaker 0

最近,卢克英语播客达成了几个相当重要的里程碑。

So I've I've achieved or passed a few quite significant milestones for Luke's English podcast recently.

Speaker 0

就在几周前,我们的脸书页面点赞数突破了五千,这很棒。

Just a few weeks ago, the Facebook page received over 5,000 likes, which is great.

Speaker 0

网站的总浏览量现在已经超过了一百万。

The website now has had over a million views.

Speaker 0

我觉得我在YouTube上的总播放量差不多也到两百万了。

I think I've had something like 2,000,000 views on on YouTube now.

Speaker 0

现在我其实有点忽略了我的YouTube频道。

Now I'm actually I've I've neglected my YouTube page.

Speaker 0

确实如此。

I have.

Speaker 0

你明白我的意思吧?

Do do you know what I mean?

Speaker 0

我确实忽略了它。

I've neglected it.

Speaker 0

我都没怎么上心。

I haven't paid enough attention to it.

Speaker 0

有点放任自流了。

I've kind of let it go a bit.

Speaker 0

最近没怎么花心思在YouTube的内容上。

I haven't really been doing enough work on the YouTube stuff.

Speaker 0

所以未来我想重新拾起来,拍几节视频课程。

So that's something I'd like to do in the future is get back onto YouTube and perhaps do a few video lessons.

Speaker 0

因为现在YouTube上的视频质量终于提升到很高了。

Because it seems that now that the quality of videos on YouTube has has has finally reached a a high level.

Speaker 0

上面有很多老师,尤其是很多英语老师。

There are loads of teachers, loads of English teachers on YouTube.

Speaker 0

你有没有注意到?

Have you noticed?

Speaker 0

视频画质够好了,老师们也渐渐学会了怎么在镜头前讲课。

This the the the video quality is good enough and the the teachers have started to learn how to teach on video.

Speaker 0

所以现在网上有大量教英语的视频。

And so now there's quite a lot of videos of people teaching English on YouTube.

Speaker 0

我觉得我也得赶紧跟上,拍点自己的视频。

And I thought, I've got I've got to do that.

Speaker 0

你说对吧?

Haven't I?

Speaker 0

这特别适合我。

That's perfect for me.

Speaker 0

我的意思是,我可以把《卢克英语播客》里的内容搬上视频。

I mean, I can use the stuff that I do in Luke's English podcast and put it on video.

Speaker 0

这样就能吸引一批新的观众。

I'd get a new audience.

Speaker 0

我长得也不差啊。

I mean, I'm not a bad looking guy.

Speaker 0

怎么说呢,我上镜还挺自然的。

I'm quite kind of camera friendly, you could say.

Speaker 0

我觉得我确实该拍视频。

I think that I should be on video.

Speaker 0

我该去当演员才对。

I should be a film star.

Speaker 0

这话有点夸张了,不过我倒是可以试试做点YouTube教学内容。

Well, that's a bit far, but, maybe I'll do some YouTube teaching stuff.

Speaker 0

不过关键是,得有个合适的拍摄环境。

Thing is you need the right environment to do it.

Speaker 0

你需要一个光线好的地方,最好有个白板。

You need a good sort of, a well lit space with a whiteboard.

Speaker 0

光线一定要足,要是太暗,你看起来就像个僵尸。

It needs to be well lit because if it's dark then you look look sort of like a zombie.

Speaker 0

得有充足的光线才行。

It has to be very well lit.

Speaker 0

得有个地方能写字,这样你才能直接板书教学。

There has to be a a space where you can write on a board so you can teach directly.

Speaker 0

我会去准备这些的。

I'll work on that.

Speaker 0

我可能很快就要出视频了。

I might be on video soon.

Speaker 0

这事还得再看看。

We'll have to see about that.

Speaker 0

我刚才还聊来着,说到哪儿了?

What else was I talking about?

Speaker 0

我想不起来了。

I can't remember.

Speaker 0

接下来会发生什么?

What's going to happen next?

Speaker 0

接下来要做的事可多了。

Well, there's loads of stuff that's going to happen next.

Speaker 0

好多事情呢。

Loads of things.

Speaker 0

比如结婚之类的那些大事。

Yeah, getting married and all that other things.

Speaker 0

对啊。

Yeah.

Speaker 0

人生的重要节点。

Milestones.

Speaker 0

我刚才说的就是这个。

That's what I was talking about.

Speaker 0

里程碑。

Milestones.

Speaker 0

Facebook上五千个赞,网站上一百万次浏览,YouTube上两千多万次播放。

5,000 likes on Facebook, a million views on the website, over 2,000,000 views on YouTube.

Speaker 0

很快我就要达到Audio Boo上一百万次下载了,而我去年十一月初才刚加入Audio Boo。

And soon I'll have achieved a million downloads from Audio Boo and I only joined Audio Boo at the beginning of November last year.

Speaker 0

所以是从十一月到四月,六个月的时间,差不多就做到了一百万次下载。

So that's like November, December, January, February, March, April, that's six months and it's almost a million downloads in six months.

Speaker 0

太厉害了。

Wow.

Speaker 0

这太棒了。

That's brilliant.

Speaker 0

这简直惊人,因为去年一整年我总共才下载了一百二十五万次,现在六个月就破百万了。

That's amazing in fact because, I think in the previous year I got something like 1,250,000 downloads in the whole year and I've got a million downloads in in just six months now.

Speaker 0

所以这个播客越来越受欢迎了。

So the podcast keeps getting more and more popular.

Speaker 0

谢谢。

Thank you.

Speaker 0

谢谢。

Thank you.

Speaker 0

特别感谢你。

Specifically you.

Speaker 0

非常感谢你们支持卢克的英语播客。

Thank you very much for supporting Luke's English podcast.

Speaker 0

其实我可能没必要特意感谢你们。

I suppose I don't really need to thank you.

Speaker 0

归根结底,这说明一切都不错,对吧?

Ultimately I suppose means that it's good, right?

Speaker 0

这说明播客做得好,值得听。

It means that the podcast is good, it's worth listening to.

Speaker 0

我希望在座的各位继续收听卢克的英语播客。

What I'd like you to do, ladies and gentlemen out there, is of course keep listening to Luke's English podcast.

Speaker 0

请继续把评论发送到 teacherluke.com。

Keep sending your comments to teacherluke.

Speaker 0

WordPress.com。

Wordpress dot com.

Speaker 0

另外,如果你能顺手去 iTunes 给我留个评价,那就太好了,因为 iTunes 对播客的成功特别关键,我觉得大多数人都是通过它来听播客的。

But also, if you could, it would it would be really great if you could go on to iTunes and leave me a review there as well, because iTunes is really important for the success of a podcast because I think most people use iTunes as their way of accessing podcasts on the internet.

Speaker 0

有些人会用其他软件或者播客客户端,但 iTunes 依然是最受欢迎的。

Some people use other programs, other pod catchers and things, but iTunes is the most popular one.

Speaker 0

其实我在 iTunes 上的评分已经很不错了。

Now, I actually have very good ratings on iTunes.

Speaker 0

差不多是五颗星里拿了四星半,这已经很棒了。

That's like four and a half stars out of five, which is really great.

Speaker 0

不过,新的评价和评分总是更有帮助。

But it's always helpful to receive fresh reviews and fresh ratings.

Speaker 0

如果你喜欢 Luke 的英语播客,觉得它帮到了你的英语学习,也享受每一集的内容,那就去 iTunes 给我留个好评吧,这不仅能提升我的曝光度,也能帮助更多人找到这个播客。

So if you like Luke's English podcast, if you feel it's helped you with your English, and if you feel that you enjoy episodes and that you have a good time when you listen to to Luke's English podcast, then do go to iTunes and leave me a nice review there because it's going to help my popularity and it'll help other people find Luke's English podcast.

Speaker 0

你还可以推荐给朋友。

What you could also do is recommend it to your friends.

Speaker 0

如果你有朋友或家人在学英语,不妨建议他们定期听Luke的英语播客。

If you've got friends or family who are learning English, then why not suggest that they listen to Luke's English podcast on a regular basis.

Speaker 0

我觉得这确实是保持英语水平的好方法,而且是一种全新的英语学习方式,对吧?

I think you'll agree it's a good way of keeping your English fresh, and it's a new way of learning English, isn't it?

Speaker 0

我以前在之前的节目里提过,但这次真的不一样。

I've gone into this before in previous episodes, but this is a really new thing.

Speaker 0

我的意思是,以前从来没有人这样过。

I mean, we've never had this before.

Speaker 0

以前我们从来没有机会定期跟另一个国家的人直接交流,通过互联网跟他们对话。

We've never had the opportunity to connect to someone in another country on a regular basis, someone who talks directly to you over the internet.

Speaker 0

这种事以前根本不可能实现。

This has never been possible before.

Speaker 0

你们的父母那一代人,只能听BBC广播,或者买英语人士讲英语的磁带和黑胶唱片。

Our parents, your parents' generations, they had to listen to BBC radio or they had to buy like tapes or vinyl records of people speaking English.

展开剩余字幕(还有 480 条)
Speaker 0

那时候想接触到地道的口语英语可真不容易。

It was really hard to access natural spoken English.

Speaker 0

结果呢,很多人英语都没学到位。

And as a result, people didn't really develop their English properly.

Speaker 0

以前大家光靠看书、读报来学英语,所以说得总有点不对劲。

People used to use reading texts like they'd read books and newspapers and as a result of that their English would be not quite right.

Speaker 0

发音也特别奇怪。

The pronunciation was weird.

Speaker 0

他们学发音完全是照着单词的拼写来猜的。

They'd learned to they'd learned pronunciation from the way that words look on the page.

Speaker 0

但现在通过互联网,学英语的方式高效多了,我觉得网上最好的方法就是听播客。

But now through the internet it's possible to learn in a much more effective way and perhaps the best way to do that online is to use podcasts, I think.

Speaker 0

你当然也可以看视频、看电影,但那些人又不是专门对着你讲的,对吧?

You could watch videos and movies and things, but they're not speaking specifically to you, are they?

Speaker 0

现在网上有好多专门教英语的播客。

And there are lots of podcasts for learning English out there.

Speaker 0

能不能找到最适合你的,就看你了。

It's up to you to find the one that works best for you.

Speaker 0

如果是我的播客,麻烦你去 iTunes 或其他平台给我留个好评吧。

So if it is my podcast, I'd love it if you could just write a nice review for me on iTunes or anywhere else.

Speaker 0

如果你是从别的网站或渠道找到我的播客,也麻烦在那里留个好评。

If you have a different website or a different way of finding Luke's English podcast, leave me a nice review there as well.

Speaker 0

真的非常感谢。

It would be much appreciated.

Speaker 0

如果觉得适合家人朋友,也推荐给他们听听。

Do recommend it to your family and friends as well if it's for them.

Speaker 0

如果你觉得他们会喜欢,就建议他们也来听一听。

If you think that they'll like it, then suggest that they listen to this too.

Speaker 0

我想我说的就这些了。

And I think that's all I have to say.

Speaker 0

接下来我要做的,就是不再说话,放一段我以前录的音频给你听。

What I'm going to do now is I'm going to stop talking to you and I'm going to play you a recording that I made a while ago.

Speaker 0

我有个美国朋友叫大卫,人特别棒。

I've got an American friend called David, and David is great.

Speaker 0

他真是个特别好的人。

He's he's a really great guy.

Speaker 0

他特别幽默。

He's very funny.

Speaker 0

他特别聪明。

He's very intelligent.

Speaker 0

他是一名律师。

He works as a lawyer.

Speaker 0

我是在巴黎认识他的,但最近——说起来幸运的是——大卫搬回美国了。

I met him in Paris, but unfortunately very recently David, well, fortunately for me, moved back to The States.

Speaker 0

他现在和妻子、孩子一起住在华盛顿。

He's gone to live in Washington with his wife and his kid.

Speaker 0

他已经搬走了。

He's moved.

Speaker 0

他离开巴黎了,所以我挺想大卫的。

He's left Paris, so I miss David.

Speaker 0

在他走之前,我总算约到他,为卢克的英语播客录了一期,我们就随便聊了聊。

I did manage to grab David before he left and record an episode with him for Luke's English podcast in which we just talked about some stuff in general.

Speaker 0

我们喝了点啤酒,聊了聊文化差异,英国和美国的不同,还有在外国生活是什么感觉。

We had a couple of beers and just kind of talked about cultural differences and differences between Britain and The USA and and what it's like living in in another country.

Speaker 0

我还问了大卫关于他的多元文化背景,因为他家有哥伦比亚血统,所以会说一点西班牙语。

Also, I asked David about his multicultural history because, he's got kind of Colombian family, So he speaks some Spanish.

Speaker 0

他原本来自美国南部,我想是那里。

He's originally from, I think, the South.

Speaker 0

他是美国南方人,这本身就很有趣。

He's from the American South, which is quite interesting in itself.

Speaker 0

所以我录了一段和大卫的采访。

So I recorded an interview with David.

Speaker 0

但不幸的是,我的录音设备二十分钟后就没电了。

But unfortunately, my battery on my recorder died after twenty minutes.

Speaker 0

真可惜,我没法把我和大卫的完整访谈放给你听。

It's a real pity because I can't present you the whole podcast interview with David.

Speaker 0

所以我只能把录下来的这二十分钟放给你听。

Instead, what I'm going to do is is give you the twenty minutes that I've got.

Speaker 0

遗憾的是,二十分钟后录音就突然中断了。

So unfortunately, after twenty minutes, it just stops.

Speaker 0

特别烦人,那时候对话正说到精彩的地方,结果电池没电了,访谈就这么戛然而止。

And it's really annoying because it's just getting really interesting at that point, and then the interview just stops because my batteries ran out.

Speaker 0

不过,我还是先放一段我和美国朋友大卫的对话,大概二十分钟,结束后我再回来跟你们说几句再见。

But, nevertheless, let me now play you twenty minutes of my conversation with my American friend David, and I'll probably speak to you again at the end of that conversation and just say goodbye to you.

Speaker 0

一会儿再跟你们聊。

So I'll speak to you again in a moment.

Speaker 0

明白吗?

Alright?

Speaker 0

我马上就把背景音乐关掉,这样你们能更清楚地听访谈,不会被打扰。

I'm gonna stop the music as well in just a second so you'll be able to listen to the interview without any distractions.

Speaker 0

如果你喜欢这段音乐,记得告诉我。

If you do like this music, let me know.

Speaker 0

我或许还能帮你弄到一些这段音乐的MP3。

I might be able to arrange for you to get hold of some some, like, m p threes of this stuff too.

Speaker 0

好的。

Okay.

Speaker 0

明白了。

Right.

Speaker 0

那我们开始吧。

So here we go.

Speaker 0

我这就把音乐停下,你可以专心听采访了。

Let's let's cut the music, and then you can listen to the interview.

Speaker 0

暂时先这样,再见。

Bye for now.

Speaker 0

很快再跟你聊。

Speak to you soon.

Speaker 0

十二。

12.

Speaker 0

十二。

12.

Speaker 0

一百二十三。

123.

Speaker 0

现在我们得尽量把这架飞机上的音量调到最高。

Now we need to try and try and get the level up as as much as possible here on this on this plane.

Speaker 0

+1 (212) 345-6789。

+1, (212), 345-6789.

Speaker 0

原来你是用英式英语数数的。

So you count in British English.

Speaker 0

那你们美国人怎么数?

How do you

Speaker 1

count in American English?

count in American English?

Speaker 1

12345。

12345.

Speaker 1

不。

No.

Speaker 1

嗯,算是吧。

Well, yeah.

Speaker 1

5。

5.

Speaker 1

再往后我就不太清楚了。

And then some I don't know.

Speaker 0

六、七。

Six, seven.

Speaker 0

我们就只能做到这里了。

That's as far as we can get.

Speaker 1

我以前曾数到过九,但那时候我喝醉了

Once I got up to nine, but I was drunk at

Speaker 0

那时候。

that time.

Speaker 0

没问题。

Sure thing.

Speaker 0

我现在待在公寓里,和我的美国朋友大卫在一起。

So I'm sitting here in my flat with my American friend David.

Speaker 0

我又在公寓里多了一个美国人。

I've gotten another American person in my apartment.

Speaker 0

这挺有意思的,倒不是说有什么奇怪的地方,就是有种跨文化的意味。

It's exciting, I suppose, in a in a not in any kind of weird way, way, but just in a kind of like cross cultural sense.

Speaker 0

和英国人交流是什么感觉?

How does it feel to to communicate with the British person?

Speaker 0

刚才用的词是‘有意思’,我觉得

The word used was exciting, and I

Speaker 1

这确实就是我的感受。

think that's that's how I feel.

Speaker 1

我也有你之前说的那种感觉。

And I feel it in the other sense that you're describing earlier.

Speaker 1

是吗?

Yeah?

Speaker 1

对。

Yeah.

Speaker 1

麻麻的。

Tingling.

Speaker 1

我感觉到一种明显的麻麻的感觉。

I feel a really a tingling feeling.

Speaker 1

我的意思是,这确实让人兴奋。

I mean, it's exciting.

Speaker 1

就像我第一次去蹦极的时候那样。

It's like when I was going bungee jumping for the first time.

Speaker 0

这确实是一阵肾上腺素飙升。

It is an an adrenaline rush.

Speaker 0

肾上腺素

Adrenaline

Speaker 1

飙升。

rush.

Speaker 1

对。

Yep.

Speaker 0

是的。

Yeah.

Speaker 0

好的。

Okay.

Speaker 0

那大卫,你的背景是什么?

So so what's your background, David?

Speaker 0

你来自美国的

Which part of

Speaker 1

哪个州?

the states are you from?

Speaker 1

你有多美国呢?

How how American are you?

Speaker 1

我就是那种典型的美国人。

I'm that American.

Speaker 1

我可以说是标准的美国人,因为一个父母来自田纳西州,另一个是移民。

I'm I am the quintessential American because one of my parents is from Tennessee and the other is an immigrant.

Speaker 1

是的。

Uh-huh.

Speaker 1

所以我既体验过地道的美国本土生活,

And so it's got I kind of lived the American experience by being both down home roots.

Speaker 0

对。

Yep.

Speaker 1

还有个奶奶总说些‘远走高飞’之类的话。

Had a grandma that said, hail far and and that kind of stuff.

Speaker 1

而我妈妈呢,她能说一口标准的英语吗?

And then my mom, can I speak English correctly?

Speaker 1

她以前在自助点餐机那儿总被人笑,因为她会说‘我要一杯可乐,再来一杯雪碧’。

And she used to get laughed at in the the drive through because she would say, I would like a Coke and then a Sprite.

Speaker 1

她其实只想说雪碧,但没人听得懂,因为我们当时在

When she wanted to say Sprite, and nobody understood her because we were in

Speaker 0

你懂的。

you know?

Speaker 0

你妈妈是哪里人?

Where's your mom from?

Speaker 1

她来自南美洲。

She's from South America.

Speaker 1

明白了。

Okay.

Speaker 1

她是南美洲的西班牙语使用者。

Spanish Spanish speaker from South America.

Speaker 0

对。

Right.

Speaker 0

来自哥伦比亚。

From Colombia.

Speaker 0

她是那些移民到美国的人之一,像她这样的人很多,正是他们让美国变得如此强大。

And so she was a one of the immigrants who came into The States, One of the many immigrants who have, you know, made America the great nation

Speaker 1

没错。

That's right.

Speaker 1

明白了。

Okay.

Speaker 0

那她是什么时候来美国的?

When did she come to The States then?

Speaker 1

她是在六十年代末、七十年代初来的美国。

She came to The States in the end of the sixties, beginning of the seventies.

Speaker 0

好的。

Okay.

Speaker 0

那真是个挺特别的时期到的。

That's an interesting time to arrive.

Speaker 0

确实如此

Very

Speaker 1

那真是个充满魅力的年代。

it was a fascinating time.

Speaker 1

我爸爸在哥伦比亚遇见了她,这其实是个特别精彩的故事。

So my my dad met her in Colombia doing that's a great story, actually.

Speaker 1

我爸爸在哥伦比亚遇见她,是因为他当时在做类似和平队的工作。

My dad meets her in Colombia because he's doing something like the Peace Corps.

Speaker 1

对的。

Mhmm.

Speaker 1

他去那里帮助那些资源匮乏的群体。

He goes down there to help out underserved populations.

Speaker 1

是的。

Yeah.

Speaker 1

后来,他被委派去为贫困青少年建一所学校。

And at a certain point, he's he's called upon to build a school for underprivileged youth.

Speaker 1

当时参与这个项目的还有另一群人,是一群修女,来自一所天主教学校。

Well, another group that was participating in this project was a group of sisters from the nunnery of something, Catholic school.

Speaker 1

对。

Yeah.

Speaker 1

那所天主教学校里有个高年级女生,就是我妈妈,个子是所有人里最矮的。

A senior in this Catholic school, my mother, was the shortest girl in the bunch.

Speaker 1

我爸爸是个美国人,身高将近两米,超过六英尺,是所有人里最高的。

My dad, an American, close to two meters tall, over six feet, was the tallest in the bunch.

Speaker 1

项目结束的时候,他们办了一场舞会。

And so at the end of the thing at the end of the project, they have a dance.

Speaker 1

对。

Yeah.

Speaker 1

大家说,最矮的和最高的那一对,应该跳第一支舞。

And they say, The shortest and the tallest, they should dance.

Speaker 1

对。

Yeah.

Speaker 1

故事就是这样开始的,九个月后,又是九个月后。

That's how that's how stories are Nine months later Nine months later.

Speaker 1

你出生了。

You were born.

Speaker 1

那时候我已经两岁了。

I was already two years old.

Speaker 1

所以我也不清楚具体发生了什么,不过确实没发生什么。

So I don't know what happened, but yeah, no.

Speaker 1

这就很浪漫了,他们相爱了,让我把话说完,这故事真的很美。

That's a great so they fell in love, and if I could just finish it because it's romantic and beautiful.

Speaker 1

对。

Mhmm.

Speaker 1

然后呢,当时局势动荡,他本该回美国去应征入伍。

So then he's supposed to go this you said it was a tumultuous time.

Speaker 1

我父亲本该回国去报名参军。

He's my old man is supposed to go back to The States and sign up for the for army duty.

Speaker 0

好的。

Okay.

Speaker 0

等一下。

Wait a minute.

Speaker 0

因为征兵的事。

Because of the draft.

Speaker 0

等一下。

So wait a minute.

Speaker 0

所以你妈妈是六十年代末搬去美国的?

Your your your so your mom moved to The States in the late sixties

Speaker 1

对。

Right.

Speaker 0

然后她去教会工作?

And then she worked for the church?

Speaker 0

不是。

No.

Speaker 0

这个

This

Speaker 1

你这话说得我糊涂了。

is you got it all I'm confused.

Speaker 1

这是故事的开头,你当时在浴室里。

You this is the first part of the story, you were in the bathroom.

Speaker 1

让我从头说一遍。

Let me back up.

Speaker 1

他,也就是父亲,现在在南美洲。

He, the father, is down in South America.

Speaker 1

她当时在波哥大读高中,快毕业了,是的。

She is in finishing up high school in Bogota Yeah.

Speaker 1

他们正在一起建一座教堂。

Capital of South they're building a church together.

Speaker 1

他们建了一座教堂。

They build a church.

Speaker 0

是的。

Yeah.

Speaker 1

那是个破破烂烂的地方。

It's a ramshackle.

Speaker 1

好吧。

Okay.

Speaker 1

为了庆祝教堂建成,他们举办了一场舞会。

To celebrate the building of the church, they have a dance.

Speaker 1

舞会上,最矮的和最高的那对跳舞了。

At the dance, the shortest, tallest, they dance.

Speaker 1

对。

Mhmm.

Speaker 1

但后来他的政府征召他去参战。

But then he's cut back by his government to go to war, to fight.

Speaker 1

所以他拒绝说:没有我女人,我哪儿都不去。

So instead of going to war to fight, he says, not without my woman.

Speaker 1

对。

Mhmm.

Speaker 1

所以他才是来自田纳西山区的那个人。

So he's the one who's from Tennessee, the hills.

Speaker 1

是的。

Yeah.

Speaker 1

我快讲完这个故事了,但真的很精彩。

I'm almost done with the story, but it's great.

Speaker 0

是的。

Yeah.

Speaker 1

是的。

Yeah.

Speaker 1

所以他本该去参军。

So he's supposed to go into war.

Speaker 1

他本该被征召入伍。

He's supposed to be drafted.

Speaker 1

那时候,他拒绝报到参军,说要先结婚才去打仗。

And at that time, he didn't report for duty because he said, I'm not going to war until I get married.

Speaker 1

于是,征兵办公室的人跑到田纳西州的山里,上门找他。

So the draft board comes to his house on the on the mountains of Tennessee.

Speaker 1

他们敲了门,一个年轻人出来开门,他们喊:约翰。

They knock on the door, and a young man answers and they say, John.

Speaker 1

他回答:对。

And he says, yeah.

Speaker 1

我就是约翰。

I'm John.

Speaker 1

你们找我有什么事?

What what can I do for you?

Speaker 1

他说:没错。

And he says, yes.

Speaker 1

你得去报到。

You're supposed to come to to the thing.

Speaker 1

你根本没有去报到。

You didn't reply for duty.

Speaker 1

把你的证件拿出来看看。

Show me your identification.

Speaker 1

我们要上战场了。

We're going to war.

Speaker 1

他出示了证件。

Shows the identification.

Speaker 1

那个人不是约翰。

It's not John.

Speaker 1

那是韦斯利,我爸爸的弟弟,他没被征召,却去开门,假装是我爸爸。

It's Wesley, my dad's younger brother, who wasn't called to the draft, had answered the door and pretended to be my dad.

Speaker 1

与此同时,我老爸从后门溜走了。

Meanwhile, my old man goes out the back door.

Speaker 0

天哪。

Woah.

Speaker 0

哇哦。

Woah.

Speaker 0

哇哦。

Woah.

Speaker 0

哇哦。

Woah.

Speaker 0

所以你爸爸那时候,征兵的人来敲门,对吧?

So so your dad, when when the draft guy is knocked on the door That's right.

Speaker 0

征兵就是,你知道的,年轻男子必须参军的那种情况。

The draft, of course, is when, like, you know, young men are obliged to join the army.

Speaker 0

他们管这叫征兵。

They call it the draft.

Speaker 0

对。

Right.

Speaker 1

这也叫征召。

And this Also called a conscription.

Speaker 0

征兵制度。

Conscription.

Speaker 0

明白了。

Okay.

Speaker 0

当征兵官来到你爸爸家门口时,你爸爸从后门溜走了,因为他知道一旦被征走,就会和他新爱的人分开。

When the draft officer, let's call him, arrived at the door of your dad's house, your dad escaped out of the back because he knew that he couldn't be he couldn't be taken into the army because he would be taken away from the new love of his life.

Speaker 0

没错,就是你妈妈。

That's Your exactly mom.

Speaker 0

于是他让弟弟冒充自己去应征。

And so he so he got his younger brother to pretend to be him.

Speaker 0

对。

Yes.

Speaker 0

他弟弟拿的是你爸爸的身份证?

And his his younger brother gave what your dad's ID?

Speaker 0

不是。

No.

Speaker 0

不是。

No.

Speaker 1

他给了自己的身份证。

He gave his real ID.

Speaker 1

你弟弟给了他自己的身份证。

Your younger brother gave his own ID.

Speaker 1

为了争取时间。

To buy time.

Speaker 0

明白了。

Okay.

Speaker 0

就是为了拖一拖他们。

As a way of, like, delaying them.

Speaker 0

对。

Right.

Speaker 0

你爸爸就跑出了

And your dad ran out of

Speaker 1

后门?

the back door?

Speaker 1

对。

Right.

Speaker 1

好的。

Okay.

Speaker 1

那他去哪儿了?

And what did he go?

Speaker 1

后来怎么样了?

What happened?

Speaker 1

他骑了自行车。

He went on a bicycle.

Speaker 1

他去了一个叫蒙特戈的山上。

He was up on a mountain called Montego.

Speaker 1

他上了山,骑上自行车,一路骑到了火车站。

He went up he got on a bicycle and rode down to the train station.

Speaker 1

是的。

Yeah.

Speaker 1

不是火车站。

Not train station.

Speaker 1

是铁轨那边。

To the train tracks.

Speaker 1

那里根本没有专门供人去野餐时搭火车的地方。

There's not a place where you hop on the train to go for picnics.

Speaker 1

那些火车只运煤和牛,不载人。

It's they they have trains for coal and cows, not for people.

Speaker 1

他直接跳上去了。

He hops on.

Speaker 0

抱歉,哪儿?

Where sorry.

Speaker 0

这事儿到底发生在哪儿?

Where was this again?

Speaker 0

美国的哪个地方?

Which part of America?

Speaker 1

田纳西州。

Tennessee.

Speaker 1

田纳西州。

Tennessee.

Speaker 0

中田纳西。

Mid Tennessee.

Speaker 0

对我来说,那里就像西部牛仔之乡。

Which is sort of like for me in my mind, this is Cowboy Town.

Speaker 1

这已经很接近南方了。

That's close as the South.

Speaker 1

这绝对是南方。

It's definitely the South.

Speaker 1

这里好多人都这么说话,卢克。

A lot of people talking like this right here, Luke.

Speaker 1

是的。

Yeah.

Speaker 1

而且低音特别多。

And so lot of bass.

Speaker 1

嗓音里低音很重。

Lot of bass in the voice.

Speaker 1

嗓音里低音很重。

Lot of bass in the voice.

Speaker 1

显得他们特别粗犷。

Show that they're real mess.

Speaker 1

于是他骑上自行车,去火车站,跳进一节车厢,直奔加拿大。

So he hops on a bike, heads to the train, and he jumps in a car compartment, heads to Canada.

Speaker 1

加拿大。

Canada.

Speaker 1

顺便说一句,我之前没告诉你,他不止一个兄弟,他有四个兄弟。

In the meantime, what I what I didn't tell you is that not only did he have one brother, he had four brothers.

Speaker 1

这简直就像劳莱与哈迪的喜剧片段,真的。

And they just gave was like a Laurel and Hardy sketch Yeah.

Speaker 1

各种评论接二连三地冒出来。

Remarks about it.

Speaker 1

一个接一个,根本停不下来。

They just kept coming out one after the other.

Speaker 1

不是。

No.

Speaker 1

我叫约翰。

I'm John.

Speaker 1

不是。

No.

Speaker 1

我叫约翰。

I'm John.

Speaker 1

没错。

Right.

Speaker 1

我奶奶在厨房里,手里还拿着猎枪,你知道的。

And my grandmother's in the kitchen with the shotgun, you know.

Speaker 1

真的吗?

Really?

Speaker 1

她干嘛拿着猎枪?

Why has she got the shotgun?

Speaker 1

怕他们去找我爸爸的麻烦。

In case they go after my dad.

Speaker 1

这

It's

Speaker 0

好吧。

Okay.

Speaker 0

可这是美国啊。

Well, this is America.

Speaker 0

这可是美国。

This is This is America.

Speaker 0

这是田纳西州。

This is Tennessee.

Speaker 0

没错。

Yes.

Speaker 0

所以她就说:你别想动我约翰一根汗毛。

So she's like, you ain't gonna get my John.

Speaker 0

我非用双管猎枪把你撂倒不可。

I'm gonna gun you down with both barrels of my shotgun.

Speaker 1

没错。

That's right.

Speaker 1

真的吗?

Really?

Speaker 1

就是那样?简直跟奶奶一模一样?

That's exact that's almost exactly Granny?

Speaker 0

天哪。

Oh my god.

Speaker 1

听起来就是这样的。

That's what sounded like.

Speaker 1

那后来你爸爸怎么样了?

And what happened to your dad then?

Speaker 1

他逃出去了吗?

Did he escape?

Speaker 1

他逃到了加拿大,后来又回到了哥伦比亚。

He escapes, gets to Canada, and then eventually goes back to Colombia.

Speaker 1

他身无分文。

And he had nothing.

Speaker 1

他走的时候,身上就穿着那身衣服。

He'd left really, literally with the clothes on his back.

Speaker 1

是的。

Yeah.

Speaker 1

他回到哥伦比亚,敲开人家的门,直接问:你愿意嫁给我吗?

He gets to Colombia, knocks on the door and says, will you marry me?

Speaker 1

哇哦。

Woah.

Speaker 1

是的。

Yeah.

Speaker 1

她答应了。

And well, she said yes.

Speaker 1

她答应了。

She said yes.

Speaker 1

之后的事就顺理成章了。

And the rest is history.

Speaker 1

之后的事就顺理成章了。

The rest is history.

Speaker 0

这太惊人了。

That's amazing.

Speaker 0

是不是很美好?

Isn't it beautiful?

Speaker 0

这是我听过的最浪漫的故事。

Most romantic story I've ever heard.

Speaker 0

是的。

Yeah.

Speaker 0

有人说,卢克的英语播客里浪漫内容太少了,你知道的。

And they say that, you know, there isn't enough romance on Luke's English podcast.

Speaker 0

其实也不是别人这么说。

Actually, it's not that they say that.

Speaker 0

除了我之外,没人这么说。

No one's saying that except me.

Speaker 0

我只是注意到,英语国家的人普遍不太浪漫,因为当我们说英语的时候,你会发现,我们确实不是特别感性的人。

I'm I'm just aware that there's a lack lack of general lack of romance because whenever I'm English, you see, we're not the most romantic people.

Speaker 0

我们更注重实际。

We're pragmatic people.

Speaker 1

对。

Right.

Speaker 1

这违法吗?

It's illegal?

Speaker 1

谈恋爱还违法?

Is it is romance illegal?

Speaker 1

也不是违法,就是不被看好。

It's not it's just frowned upon.

Speaker 0

这不违法。

It's not illegal.

Speaker 0

就是不被鼓励。

It's just discouraged.

Speaker 0

就是不被看好。

It's just frowned upon.

Speaker 0

得了吧,别闹了。

It's like, come on now.

Speaker 0

赶紧回去干活。

Get back to work.

Speaker 0

别这么浪漫了。

Stop being romantic.

Speaker 0

还有正事要办呢。

There's there's jobs to be done.

Speaker 1

没错。

That's right.

Speaker 1

我能问你个问题吗?

Can I ask you a question?

Speaker 1

好。

Yeah.

Speaker 1

我觉得在美國,一提到英國人,就會想到他們那種不露感情的樣子。

I feel like when when The States we think about the English we think about having a stiff upper lip.

Speaker 1

不露感情。

Stiff upper lip.

Speaker 1

对。

Yes.

Speaker 1

我怎么会知道呢

How do really should I know

Speaker 0

什么意思?

what that means?

Speaker 0

‘强忍情绪’这个词是用来形容英国人的态度,就是不流露情感,保持克制

Stiff upper lip is the expression which is used to describe the attitude of the British, which is to be unemotional, to be under control

Speaker 1

对

Mhmm.

Speaker 0

还要理性,能控制自己的情绪

And to be sort of rational and in control of yourself emotionally.

Speaker 0

嘴唇嘛,你脸上有上下两片,下唇和上唇

So the upper lip, you know, obviously on a on your face, in your mouth, you've got two lips, the lower lip and the upper lip.

Speaker 0

不知为什么,上唇的动向就被当成情绪状态的象征

For some reason, the upper lip, the movement of the upper lip represents your emotional state.

Speaker 0

说实话,我自己也一直不太喜欢这个说法

I don't I've I've never really been completely happy with this expression myself either.

Speaker 0

但如果你绷着脸,那就意味着你的上嘴唇根本不动。

But but if you have a stiff upper lip, that means the upper lip is kind of doesn't really move.

Speaker 0

对。

Right.

Speaker 0

这是一种老派英国人的态度——绷着脸,不露情绪。

And so it's this sort of old school English attitude, stiff upper lip.

Speaker 1

我发现自己说话时也总这样。

I find myself talking like

Speaker 0

别慌,稳住,小伙子。

try to pull yourself together, boy.

Speaker 0

咱们继续干活吧。

Let's get back to work.

Speaker 0

没错。

Right.

Speaker 0

好的。

Righto.

Speaker 0

好的。

Righto.

Speaker 1

如果我总是绷着脸,最后我自己也会变成那样说话。

And then if I keep my upper lip stiff, I end up talking like that myself.

Speaker 1

没错。

Exactly.

Speaker 0

对。

Yes.

Speaker 0

现在,回去干活吧。

Now Back to work.

Speaker 0

就是这样。

Exactly.

Speaker 0

想象一下,比如说,你是个二战时期关在条件极其恶劣的日本战俘营里的囚犯,或者别的什么地方的战俘营。

Now, if you imagine for, you know, if you if you were to imagine that you were, let's say, a prisoner of war in a rather awful Japanese war camp during the second world war or another another camp somewhere maybe.

Speaker 0

这时候你只有两个选择。

Now, you've got two choices.

Speaker 0

你要么就彻底崩溃,失去理智。

Either you're gonna just lose you lose control of your faculties.

Speaker 0

那样对你有什么好处?

What bloody good is that gonna do you?

Speaker 0

不行。

No.

Speaker 0

相反,你要保持冷静,稳住自己。

Instead, you keep your keep the stiff upper lip, keep yourself together.

Speaker 0

这肯定特别难,但你绝不能被它打倒。

It may be jolly hard work, but you certainly don't let it get to you get you down at all.

Speaker 1

没错。

Right.

Speaker 1

别废话了,赶紧干吧。

Just let's bloody get on

Speaker 0

继续演吧。

with the show.

Speaker 0

咱们给这些日本人搭座桥吧。

Let's build a bloody bridge for these Jappos.

Speaker 0

没错,就是这样。

That's the that's the Right.

Speaker 0

有点种族偏见,但这就是我的看法。

Slightly racist, but that's the the I see.

Speaker 0

要保持冷静克制的态度。

Stiff upper lip attitude.

Speaker 1

相比之下,他们一疼就发抖,你知道的,一哭就说不想上战场。

So they're so they in contrast, a quivering up relate with pain, you know, if you're crying I don't wanna go to war.

Speaker 1

对。

Right.

Speaker 0

别垮了,振作起来。

Pull yourself together.

Speaker 0

保持冷静克制。

Stiff upper lip.

Speaker 0

对。

Right.

Speaker 0

是的。

Yeah.

Speaker 0

这就是个老生常谈了。

That's the cliche.

Speaker 0

我觉得我也不太确定。

I think I don't know.

Speaker 1

你见过英国人哭过吗?

Have you ever seen an Englishman cry?

Speaker 0

是的。

Yeah.

Speaker 0

当然了。

Of course.

Speaker 1

好吧。

Okay.

Speaker 0

是的

Yeah.

Speaker 0

对

Yeah.

Speaker 0

哦,对啊

Oh, yeah.

Speaker 0

没错

Yeah.

Speaker 0

确实

Yeah.

Speaker 0

我觉得这真不太好解释,你说是不是?

I think it's it's it's hard to explain, isn't it?

Speaker 0

因为当你谈到这种跨文化的话题时,人们总说,哦,英国人嘛,特点是内敛、不外露感情,特别能憋着。

Because when you talk about cross cultural stuff like this, you know, they they say, oh, the English, you know, the the the the characteristic of the English is that they're reserved, they're unemotional, they have a stiff upper lip.

Speaker 0

但其实也不全对,我认识不少情感丰富的英国人,尤其是喝醉了以后。

Well, it's not completely true because I know plenty of emotional English people, you know, especially when they get drunk.

Speaker 0

我不确定是不是我把情绪和暴力搞混了。

I don't know if maybe I'm confusing emotion with just violence.

Speaker 0

我不清楚。

I don't know.

Speaker 0

我觉得周五晚上在酒吧里把啤酒杯砸在墙上

I think smashing a beer glass against the side of a pub on a Friday night

Speaker 1

那是开心的表现。

That's happiness.

Speaker 1

那就是开心。

That is happiness.

Speaker 0

这其实是一种情绪的表达。

It's an emotional act.

Speaker 0

没错。

Sure.

Speaker 0

但这也是一种暴力行为。

But it's it's a violent act.

Speaker 0

我觉得可以说,英国人相比其他民族要内敛得多。

I think maybe the it's fair to say that the English are quite reserved in comparison to other nationalities.

Speaker 0

来法国之后,我明显感受到一点——我不想显得无礼,但有时候觉得,法国人带着一点拉丁血统,反应确实更快。

Coming to France, I have been rather struck by how and I don't want this to sound rude, but how sometimes I find that the French with their Latin with a bit of Latin blood, they tend to react more quickly.

Speaker 0

对。

Mhmm.

Speaker 0

他们更容易情绪化、更冲动,不像我们英国人那样克制。我总觉得,法国人往往还没想清楚,就先发脾气或动感情了。

They react in a more passionate emotional way than us Brits where that I sometimes I think that the French react with anger or emotion before they think about it.

Speaker 0

他们很少深思熟虑。比如开车这件事,就是一个例子。

They don't really think it through So for example, one example of that is driving.

Speaker 0

明白吧?

Okay?

Speaker 0

我发现法国人特别容易按喇叭。

So I find that the French are very quick to beat the horn.

Speaker 0

嘀嘀。

Beep beep.

Speaker 0

他们按喇叭更快,是因为更容易生气。

They beat the horn more quickly because they just get angry faster.

Speaker 1

这是热情的表现。

It's passion.

Speaker 0

比如,赶紧让开之类的。

Like get out of the way, for example.

Speaker 0

但他们往往没想清楚。比如在T字路口,有一条主路,另一条路从侧面汇入。

But they don't really think it through because if you've got a t junction, that's where you've got one main road and another road joining it.

Speaker 0

主路上车很多,司机开过来,发现没法汇入,就停了下来。

And there's lots of cars on that main road and the driver arrives and he can't get onto the road, so he stops.

Speaker 0

后面的车一看,前面一辆车不动,就按喇叭:‘嘀嘀,怎么卡住了?’

The car another car comes behind him and he all he sees is one car in front of him not moving and he goes beep beep like why is there a delay?

Speaker 0

其实他只要抬头看看,就会发现——香榭丽舍大街上车流不断。

And all he needs to do is look up a bit and see that look there's cars coming all the way down the Champs Elysees.

Speaker 0

所以你根本插不进去。

That's why you can't get it.

Speaker 0

所以你根本没法往前走。

That's why you can't go forwards.

Speaker 0

但他们就是先按喇叭再说。

But no, they just beep first

Speaker 1

觉得这太短视了。

and think it's shortsighted.

Speaker 1

先按喇叭,再动脑子。

Beep first and think later.

Speaker 0

对。

Yeah.

Speaker 0

我不太会说那种特别有力的表达。

And I don't know powerful phrase.

Speaker 0

但如果这只是情绪的发泄,那说明法国人确实更容易、更直接地表露这种挫败感。

But if that's just emotion, that's just this the fact that the French just sort of express that frustration more readily and more easily.

Speaker 0

他们就是当场把情绪释放出来,事后才慢慢想。

They just let the emotion come out there and then and sort of think about it later.

Speaker 0

作为英国人,我可能稍微内敛一点,总觉得要忍一忍。

For me as an English person, maybe I'm I'm slightly more reserved and I think, no, hold back.

Speaker 0

别按喇叭。

Don't beep.

Speaker 0

要考虑到周围的人。

You know, be considerate of others around you.

Speaker 0

除非万不得已,否则别按喇叭。

Only beep if it's absolutely necessary.

Speaker 0

没错。

Right.

Speaker 0

忍住别按喇叭。

Hold your honk.

Speaker 0

对。

Yeah.

Speaker 0

忍住别按喇叭。

Hold your honk.

Speaker 0

别随便冲动,好好想一想。

Don't, you know, just just think it through.

Speaker 0

我们总是让理智压过情感,而不是反过来。

So we let the mind control the heart rather than the other way around.

Speaker 0

这到底是好是坏呢?

Is that a bad thing or a good thing?

Speaker 0

谁知道呢?

Who knows?

Speaker 1

少按喇叭确实让人清净不少。

But it's a lot less annoying to have less beeping.

Speaker 0

喇叭声确实少了。

There's less beeping.

Speaker 1

对。

Right.

Speaker 0

是啊。

Yeah.

Speaker 0

我在巴黎开车时,经历过一种文化冲击:有人按喇叭,我立马想,天哪。

That's a cultural culture shock thing I've experienced when I'm driving in Paris is that someone beeps and I think, my god.

Speaker 0

我哪里做错了吗?

What did I do wrong?

Speaker 0

对啊。

Mhmm.

Speaker 0

在英国,按喇叭的含义比在法国要严重得多。

You know, a beep is in England is much more serious than it is in France.

Speaker 0

在这里,按喇叭只是提醒你醒醒。

Here it just means wake up.

Speaker 0

这里的喇叭声,意思就是嘿,注意一下。

Here it's like, hello, you know, here.

Speaker 0

但我总把它理解成:你脑子有问题吧?

But I interpret it as what the hell is wrong with you?

Speaker 0

你爸妈根本就不该认识才对。

Your parents should never have, you know, met each other.

Speaker 1

对。

Right.

Speaker 0

这种事可是严重的冒犯。

That that kind of thing is a deep insult.

Speaker 1

对。

Right.

Speaker 1

也许你正面临一些更深层的问题,卢克。

Maybe you're dealing with some deeper issues, Luke.

Speaker 0

也许吧。

Maybe I am.

Speaker 0

我的意思是,你也这么觉得吗?

I mean Do you think so?

Speaker 1

是的。

Yeah.

Speaker 1

你现在都哭了,所以我感觉这说明

Well, you're crying now, and so I feel like that's

Speaker 0

这是我英语热情的自然流露

It's my English passion coming through in

Speaker 1

体现在交通问题上。

the in the form of Traffic issues.

Speaker 1

就是交通问题。

Traffic issues.

Speaker 1

真烦人。

Damn it.

Speaker 0

你现在在法国住多久了?

How long have you been living in France now?

听我说。

Look.

Speaker 0

我已经在这儿

I've been

Speaker 1

在法国住了七年,有时候感觉像二十年,有时候又觉得才几周而已。

in France for seven years, and sometimes it feels like twenty, and sometimes it feels like, you know, a couple of weeks.

Speaker 0

是的。

Yeah.

Speaker 0

真的吗?

Really?

Speaker 0

是的。

Yeah.

Speaker 0

你现在还觉得文化上有冲击或者困惑吗?

You're still experiencing the culture shock or the culture confusion?

Speaker 0

当然。

Sure.

Speaker 0

是的。

Yeah.

Speaker 0

给我举个例子吧。

What what give me an example.

Speaker 0

现在还有什么事情让你觉得特别费解或困惑的?

What things still baffle you, confuse you about life here?

Speaker 1

太多了。

So many things.

Speaker 1

比如前几天,我参加了一个周日的聚餐,本来以为就是个随便聊聊的场合。

So many well, for instance, the other day, was I was at a dinner that was meant to be just kind of a a casual get together on a Sunday.

Speaker 1

我走到桌边,却被告诉不能坐在某个位置。

And I approached the table, and I was told that I was not allowed to sit at a at a certain place.

Speaker 1

是的。

Yeah.

Speaker 1

主人已经安排好了每个人的座位。

The the host had decided who would sit where.

Speaker 1

嗯。

Uh-huh.

Speaker 1

我以为这应该是个比较随意的聚会,所以我不确定这是文化差异,还是跟阶层有关。

And I I had thought of it as kind of an informal so this maybe I'm not sure if it's a cultural issue or if just if it's a if it's a class.

Speaker 1

我也不太清楚到底是什么原因。

I don't know what it is.

Speaker 1

但我当时被明确告知了该坐哪儿。

But I was placed situation where I was told where I could sit.

Speaker 1

作为美国人,我觉得没人能命令我坐哪儿,真是太过分了。

And as an American, I thought No one tells me where to sit, goddamn it.

Speaker 1

没错。

That's right.

Speaker 1

我有权利自己选座位。

I have the freedom to choose.

Speaker 1

是的。

Yeah.

Speaker 1

其实我也不太想坐主位,那样不太合适。

You know, I wouldn't wanna sit at the head of the table Yeah.

Speaker 1

因为那样可能会显得不礼貌。

Because that might be that might be considered rude.

Speaker 0

那样做太张扬了。

It's too bold to move.

Speaker 0

我的意思是,我要坐在这场聚会的主位上。

It's like, I'm gonna place myself at the head of this party.

Speaker 0

没错。

Right.

Speaker 0

不行。

No.

Speaker 0

但你是想挨着你女朋友或者妻子坐,对吧?

But you wanted to sit, I don't know, near your near your girlfriend, near your wife Right.

Speaker 0

举个例子。

Example.

Speaker 0

是的。

Yeah.

Speaker 0

或者别的地方也行。

Or somewhere else.

Speaker 0

你就是想自己做主,我是美国人。

You just you wanted to choose, I'm American.

Speaker 0

我相信我有权利坐在我想坐的任何地方。

I I believe I have the right to sit wherever I want.

Speaker 1

对。

Yeah.

Speaker 1

我一开始的想法是先到先坐。

So my initial think thinking was first come, first serve.

Speaker 1

我先到这张桌子的。

I got to this table first.

Speaker 1

我要坐在那块奶酪旁边,看着真诱人。

I'm gonna sit right next to that cheese because it looks delicious.

Speaker 0

是的。

Yeah.

Speaker 0

你是想挨着奶酪坐。

You wanted to sit next to the cheese.

Speaker 0

对。

Yes.

Speaker 1

就是这样

That's what

Speaker 0

没错。

it was.

Speaker 1

我明天就能见到我妻子了。

My wife my wife I'll see her tomorrow.

Speaker 1

这奶酪简直绝了。

But this cheese was out of the out of this world.

Speaker 1

是的。

Yeah.

Speaker 1

没人给我别的选择。

I wasn't given that option.

Speaker 0

那后来怎么样了?

What what happened then?

Speaker 0

你不是坐下了吗?

What you you you sat down?
