Speaker 0

大家好,各位听众。

Hello, listeners.

Speaker 0

欢迎回到卢克的英语播客。

Welcome back to Luke's English podcast.

Speaker 0

本期节目中,您将听到一段关于童年的对话,内容涵盖这个话题的方方面面,充满了有趣的故事,还有我们讲述过去、描述家庭生活、谈论成长与校园时光时常用的表达方式,等等。

In this episode, you can hear a conversation about childhood covering various aspects of this topic, and it's full of funny stories and also the language that we use to tell stories about the past, to describe family life, to talk about growing up and school days, and a lot more.

Speaker 0

我觉得这一期特别棒,您一定会很喜欢。

I think it's a really good one, and you will enjoy it a lot.

Speaker 0

但我在录这一集的时候遇到了播客主播最怕的情况,真的太糟了。

But I had a podcaster's nightmare recording this episode, a podcaster's nightmare.

Speaker 0

你觉得播客主播最怕的情况会是什么?

What do you think a podcaster's nightmare could be?

Speaker 0

事情是这样的,我先把录音完成了。

Well, what happened is that I did the recording.

Speaker 0

当时一切都很正常。

Everything was fine.

Speaker 0

后来我开始剪辑的时候,才发现出了问题。

Then I started to edit it.

Speaker 0

我拿到了他们的音频文件,开始剪辑,结果发现录音时选错了麦克风。

I got their files, started to edit them, and then I discovered that during the recording, the wrong microphone was selected.

Speaker 0

我用的录音软件里,误选了别的麦克风。

I had the wrong microphone selected in the recording software that I use.

Speaker 0

所以我的声音没有通过平时用的播客麦克风收录,而是被笔记本自带的麦克风录了下来。

So my voice, instead of being captured by my normal podcasting microphone, it was actually being recorded by the inbuilt microphone on my laptop.

Speaker 0

声音特别闷,听不清。

The sound was very muffled.

Speaker 0

对吧?

Right?

Speaker 0

听起来就像这样,说话都糊成一团。

So it sounded a bit like sort of talking about like this.

Speaker 0

特别闷。

So very muffled.

Speaker 0

而且,偶尔还能听到风声吹过麦克风,因为那天太热了,我开着窗户录的。

And, also, you could hear the sound of wind occasionally blowing across the microphone because I was recording with my window open because it was such a hot day.

Speaker 0

大概就是这种效果。

So it was a bit like this.

Speaker 0

这段录音基本没法用了,我气得差点咬断自己的腿——再没什么比录到一段精彩的即兴对话,结果发现完全不能用更让人崩溃的了。

Basically, it was virtually unusable as a recording, and I was so frustrated I nearly bit off my own leg in frustration because there's nothing worse than capturing some spontaneous moments of quality conversation only to learn that it is completely unusable.

Speaker 0

实在没办法,我只好求助AI,用了一个工具想试着修复一下。

So in my desperation, I turned to AI, and I used an AI tool to try to fix it, to try to recover it.

Speaker 0

但神奇的是,效果出奇地好。

And amazingly, it worked really quite well.

Speaker 0

所以现在完全可以使用和发布,只是还不算完美。

So it's definitely usable and publishable, but it's not perfect.

Speaker 0

我只是想提醒一下这一点。

And I just wanted to flag this up.

Speaker 0

我觉得AI大概是提升了我的录音,把原本模糊又满是风声的麦克风音质,变成了听起来像专业录音棚的效果。

So I think what the AI did is it boosted and fixed my recording somehow changing my muffled and windy microphone into something that sounded a bit like a normal studio microphone.

Speaker 0

这技术实在太厉害了。

It's incredibly clever.

Speaker 0

它能捕捉到我的声音并进行修复,但只在我实际说出它能识别的词时才生效。

So it picked up my voice and fixed it, but it only applied those changes when I was actually saying words that it recognized.

Speaker 0

其他任何声音——比如笑声、音效,甚至是一些AI没认出来的词——全都被它直接删掉了。

Anything else, any other sounds I made, including laughter, sound effects, or even some words that the AI couldn't quite identify, all those other things got completely removed and cut by the AI.

Speaker 0

现在听上去还行,但离完美还差得远。

Now the result is okay, but it's not perfect.

Speaker 0

我的麦克风现在听起来温暖饱满,等录音一开始你就能听到,但还是没达到我想要的清晰度。

My mic now sounds pretty warm and full as you will hear when the recording starts in a moment, but it's still not quite as clear as I want.

Speaker 0

比如,有时候词尾会被稍微切掉,或者出现其他一些小问题。

For example, sometimes the ends of words get cut off slightly or other little things.

Speaker 0

也许这段话根本没必要说,你根本注意不到。

Now maybe this message isn't necessary, and you won't really notice.

Speaker 0

我觉得最终效果还算能用,但谈不上让人满意。

I found the end result basically good enough, but not really satisfying.

Speaker 0

所以我想说的是。

So the point is this.

Speaker 0

如果你觉得我比平时难听清,那是因为麦克风的问题。

If you find me a bit harder to understand than usual, it's the microphone problem.

Speaker 0

明白吗?

Okay?

Speaker 0

正如我所说,词尾听起来好像被切掉了一点。

As I said, the ends of words seem a little bit cut off.

Speaker 0

有些清晰度损失了。

Some of the clarity is lost.

Speaker 0

你大概会注意到。

And you'll probably hear it.

Speaker 0

马上就开始了。

It's gonna start in just a second.

Speaker 0

你听了会觉得我有点小题大做。

You'll hear it, and you'll think that I'm overreacting.

Speaker 0

但对我来说,这很重要。

But for me, it's a big deal.

Speaker 0

高质量的音频对我的播客非常关键。

Good quality audio is really important for my podcast.

Speaker 0

我一直在尽力提供清晰的音频,就是想减少你和听到的英语之间的障碍。

I'm always doing my best to present clear audio because I want to reduce barriers between you and the English you're hearing.

Speaker 0

我希望你听到的英语清晰易懂,尤其是在这种比较快、自然的在线对话里——这种场合本来就不容易听懂。

I want to make sure that English, the English you're listening to, is right there and is comprehensible, especially in a fairly fast and natural online chat like this, which can be difficult anyway.

Speaker 0

所以我想先说明一下,如果你觉得听清我说的每一句话有点吃力,那是因为我的麦克风有问题。

So just to let you know, if you find it a bit tricky to hear everything I'm saying, that's because of my microphone.

Speaker 0

我的意思是,如果你觉得分辨我每个词都有困难,根源就在麦克风上。

I mean, if you find it a bit tricky to identify every single word I'm saying, it's the microphone.

Speaker 0

明白吗?

Okay?

Speaker 0

所以没必要在评论里专门提这个问题。

So there's no need to write any comments about that particular issue.

Speaker 0

我已经在这里解释过了。

I have answered it here.

Speaker 0

这段对话有完整的文字稿可以帮你理解,不过不管怎样,我想说的就是这些。

There is a full script for this conversation which can help you, but, anyway, that's all I wanted to say.

Speaker 0

希望你喜欢这期节目,也欢迎留言告诉我,其实音质完全没问题,是我自己想太多了。

I hope you enjoy the episode, and feel free to write and tell me that actually the audio is absolutely fine, and I'm completely overthinking it.

Speaker 0

还有一件事。

One more thing.

Speaker 0

这期节目有一个高级版本,精选了对话中的词汇,并按高级内容的标准做了整理。

There's a premium episode for this with a selection of vocabulary taken from the conversation and given the normal premium treatment.

Speaker 0

所以如果你是普通听众,不妨去看看。

Speaker 0

你可以在你的高级内容推送里找到它。

Speaker 0

现在应该已经可以观看了。

Speaker 0

关于麦克风问题的这些提前说明,到这里就结束了。

This is the end of my pre intro kind of disclaimer thing about the microphone.

Speaker 0

好了,不多说了,咱们正式开始吧。你现在可以说,麦克风根本没问题,是我自己想太多了。

Now without any further ado, let's kind of get started properly, and, you can now note you can now tell me that the microphone is absolutely fine, and I'm totally overthinking it.

Speaker 0

明白了吗?

Okay?

Speaker 0

好,那我们开始。

Alright then.

Speaker 0

咱们正式开始,这就来了。

Let's get started, and here we go.

Speaker 0

我热得不行,脑子都转不动了。

I'm absolutely boiling hot, and my brain isn't really working properly.

Speaker 0

有个特定的温度点。

There there's a certain temperature.

Speaker 0

我觉得,作为一个英国人,大概在16摄氏度左右吧。

I think it's about as an English person, I think it's about 16 degrees c.

Speaker 0

一旦超过这个温度,我的脑子就开始罢工。

Above that temperature, my brain starts to melt.

Speaker 0

我当然是在开玩笑。

I'm joking, of course.

Speaker 0

我觉得温度可能更接近17度左右。

I think it's probably something more like 17 degrees maybe.

Speaker 0

不过这儿特别热,因为这一带正经历热浪。

But, anyway, it's super hot here because there's a heat wave in this part of the world.

Speaker 0

我待会儿再详细说说。

I'll talk more about that.

Speaker 0

这事儿挺有意思的。

It's fascinating.

Speaker 0

我猜你肯定急着想听我讲讲,录这期节目时我有多难受。

I'm sure you can't wait to hear more about how uncomfortable I am, as I record this.

Speaker 0

不过,各位听众,大家好。

But, anyway, listeners, hello.

Speaker 0

这期节目我们来聊聊童年,会讲到一些关于孩子时代、上学日子和成长过程中的趣事和难事。

This episode is gonna be a conversation about childhood, and there'll be anecdotes and memories and funny things and difficult things all related to being a child, school days, growing up.

Speaker 0

我希望你们听这期节目时能享受其中,也留意一下我们聊天时经常出现的那些常用词汇。

I really hope you enjoy listening to this and that you can try to notice the usual bits of vocabulary that will pop up as, as we talk during this episode.

Speaker 0

今天我的嘉宾是马丁·亚伦。

My guest today is Martin Aaron.

Speaker 0

和上一次一样,这次我们要换个角色——马丁不仅是嘉宾,还会以主持人的身份来采访我,就在这档我自己的播客里。

And, just like last time, we're gonna turn the tables, and Martin is actually going to be, as well as being the guest, he's actually going to be interviewing me on my own podcast.

Speaker 0

对吧?

Right?

Speaker 0

你明白这个安排吗?

Do you understand the concept?

Speaker 0

他是嘉宾,但同时也是主持人,而我呢,反而成了我自己的播客里的嘉宾。

He's the guest, but he's also the host, and I'm the guest on my own podcast.

Speaker 0

如果觉得有点乱,其实没必要纠结。

If that's confusing, it really shouldn't be.

Speaker 0

可能我越解释,反而越说不清楚了。

I think maybe I'm confusing it, by trying to explain it.

Speaker 0

其实挺简单的。

It's fairly simple.

Speaker 0

马丁给我准备了一些关于童年的提问。

Martin has prepared some questions about childhood for me to answer.

Speaker 0

所以再次成为自己节目的嘉宾,我感到特别荣幸。

So I feel very sort of flattered and privileged again to be a guest on my own show.

Speaker 0

之前几期我们聊食物的时候,就做过一次类似的安排。

We did this previously a few episodes ago when we had a conversation about food.

Speaker 0

我觉得马丁想出的这个点子特别棒。

I think this is a great concept, that Martin has come up with.

Speaker 0

随便挑个话题,准备些问题,看看我会冒出什么闲聊的片段,尤其是相关的词汇。

Just pick a cop pick a topic, prepare some questions, and see what rambling anecdotes I come out with, especially vocabulary as well.

Speaker 0

咱们来看看这个话题下会冒出哪些词汇。

Let's see what vocabulary emerges on this particular topic.

Speaker 0

我也很想把问题抛回给马丁。

I would love to ask I'd love to throw the questions back to Martin.

Speaker 0

我们肯定有不少话可聊,这个话题内容太丰富了。

Sometimes we will see I'm sure we've got loads of things to say on this subject.

Speaker 0

现在我们来听听马丁怎么说。

Let's talk to Martin now.

Speaker 0

嗨,马丁。

Hello, Martin.

Speaker 0

你最近怎么样?

How are you doing?

Speaker 1

嗨,卢克。

Hey, Luke.

Speaker 1

你怎么样?

How are doing?

Speaker 1

我热得不行,跟你一样。

I'm I'm very hot like you.

Speaker 1

今天确实特别热,不过我觉得还没巴黎那么热。

It's extremely hot today but I believe not as hot as Paris.

Speaker 1

你那边现在多少度?

What is your temperature?

Speaker 0

现在是上午十点四十四分。

It is currently 10:44AM.

Speaker 0

对吧?

Right?

Speaker 0

我说的是时间。

That's that's the time.

Speaker 0

我不是说温度。

That's not the temperature.

Speaker 0

温度可没到一万零四十四度。

It's not 10,044 degrees.

Speaker 1

不过感觉差不多。

Although it feels like it.

Speaker 0

是啊。

Yeah.

Speaker 0

是的。

Yeah.

Speaker 0

不是。

No.

Speaker 0

现在是上午10点44分。

It's 10:44 in the morning.

Speaker 0

大家都清楚了吗?

Okay, everybody?

Speaker 0

目前温度是40度。

And currently, it's 40 degrees.

Speaker 0

这可能吗?

Is that possible?

Speaker 0

有可能。

Yes.

Speaker 0

确实如此。

It is.

Speaker 0

不是。

No.

Speaker 0

等一下。

Wait a minute.

Speaker 0

我正在琢磨手机上的天气应用是怎么回事。

I'm trying to work out I'm trying to understand the the weather app on my phone.

Speaker 0

所以答案是否定的。

So it's no.

Speaker 0

实际温度是30度,但体感像是38度。

It's 30 degrees, but it feels like 38.

Speaker 0

天哪。

Gosh.

Speaker 1

哇。

Wow.

Speaker 1

是的。

Yeah.

Speaker 1

我想说一句。

I I I would like to remark.

Speaker 1

你自从我上次见你之后,头发剪短了。

You have so you've you've been shorn since I last saw you.

Speaker 1

你去剪了头发。

You've had a haircut.

Speaker 1

这跟天气有关系吗?

Is this weather related?

Speaker 1

我看起来一点没变,但你看上去年轻了不少。

I look exactly the same, but you you look you look younger.

Speaker 1

你看起来更利落了。

You look sleeker.

Speaker 0

是吗?

Do I?

Speaker 0

真的?

Really?

Speaker 0

是的。

Yeah.

Speaker 0

也许我只是出汗了。

Maybe it's I'm just I'm just sweaty.

Speaker 0

这光泽其实是汗造成的。

That's the sleekness.

Speaker 0

我只是因为出汗才亮晶晶的。

I'm just shiny because it's sweat.

Speaker 0

不过,是的。

But I yeah.

Speaker 0

不是。

No.

Speaker 0

不是。

No.

Speaker 0

对。

Yeah.

Speaker 0

是的。

Yeah.

Speaker 0

我刮过胡子了。

I've shaved.

Speaker 0

我几天前刚刮过,记不太清具体多久了。

I shaved, I don't know, a couple of days ago.

Speaker 0

很明显,胡子又长出来了。

All this obviously, the stubble is is coming back.

Speaker 0

不过,我确实得再刮一次。

But, yeah, I have to shave off.

Speaker 0

你知道的,只要一热,我根本受不了留胡子,所以一长出来就得刮掉。

I I you know, any kind of beard growth has to be shaven because when it's hot, I just can't handle having a big beard.

Speaker 0

你倒是留了全须全尾的大胡子。

But you've got the full beard.

Speaker 0

对。

Yes.

Speaker 1

这胡子可能很快就得剃了。

The beard may have to go soon.

Speaker 1

我注意到你那边有风呢。

You I see you have a nice breeze there.

Speaker 1

你的头发刚刚被风吹得动了一下。

Your hair just ruffled in the in the wind.

Speaker 0

是的。

Yeah.

Speaker 0

天气挺怪的,热得要命,但偶尔有阵风从我正前方的窗户吹进来。

So it's kind of strange weather where it's very, very hot, but there's the occasional sort of bit of breeze that comes through the open window, which is right in front of me.

Speaker 0

又闷热又有点风,真是奇怪。

So it's kind of breezy, boiling.

Speaker 0

我感觉马上就要打雷下雨了。

I feel like there could be a thunderstorm or something.

Speaker 1

对。

Yeah.

Speaker 1

是的。

Yeah.

Speaker 1

嗯,咱们这儿就是这种情况。

Well, that's what we've got here.

Speaker 0

我这儿还放了个小风扇,挺管用的。

I've also got a fan, a very small fan here, which is helping me.

Speaker 0

我旁边倒是放了把椅子,但根本没在用,也帮不上什么忙。

And I'm not sitting on a chair next to me trying to keep me cool, not really doing a very good job.

Speaker 0

你看过《阿基·维恩特2:自然呼唤》吗?

Have you seen Ace Ventura two, When Nature Calls?

Speaker 0

没看过?

No?

Speaker 0

那部电影里大概

It's probably

Speaker 1

我没看过。

not your I haven't seen.

Speaker 0

在这部电影里,吉姆·凯瑞有一场戏,他整个人待在一头犀牛里面。

Basically, Jim Carey in that film is a scene where he's inside a rhino.

Speaker 0

对,就是那样。

It's it's yeah.

Speaker 0

故事发生地是非洲吗?

It's set in is it Africa?

Speaker 0

是澳大利亚吗?

Is it the Australian?

Speaker 0

我觉得是非洲。

I think it's Africa.

Speaker 0

故事设定在非洲的某个地方,对吧?

It's set in somewhere in Africa, right?

Speaker 0

很热,对吧。

Hot, right.

Speaker 0

确实热,没错,而且是特别热。

And it's hot, yeah, but it's really hot.

Speaker 0

他正在监视一个人,而他的监视方式是用一个机器犀牛,自己躲在里面操控它。

And he's spying on someone and his method of spying on this person is that he's he's got this elect this kind of robotic rhino, and he's inside it controlling it.

Speaker 0

明白吧?

Okay?

Speaker 0

他慢慢靠近那两个鬼鬼祟祟的人,他们正在秘密交谈。

And he's moving towards these two dodgy people who are having a secret conversation.

Speaker 0

他装作说:别管我。

And there's he's like, don't mind me.

Speaker 0

我就是个友善的犀牛。

I'm just a friendly rhino.

Speaker 0

他靠近过去,整个人都藏在犀牛里面。

And he goes over, and he's inside the rhino.

Speaker 0

很明显,这台机械犀牛里面热得要命。

And, obviously, it's boiling hot inside this mechanical rhino.

Speaker 0

他还说:这犀牛里面还真够闷热的。

And he's like, oh, it's kinda hot in these rhinos.

Speaker 0

他还带了个小风扇,结果风扇突然坏了。

And he's got a little fan, and the fan just dies.

Speaker 0

接着笑点来了,他越来越热,只好一层一层地脱衣服。

And then the the joke is he gets hotter and hotter and hotter, and he has to, like, peel off more and more layers of clothing.

Speaker 0

我感觉我就像吉姆·凯瑞。

So I feel like Jim Carrey

Speaker 1

吉姆·凯瑞穿着个犀牛装。

Jim Carrey in a rhino.

Speaker 0

在非洲某个炎热的地方,钻在一台机械犀牛里。

In a mechanical rhino somewhere in a hot part of Africa.

Speaker 0

接下来,他不得不从犀牛里爬出来,唯一的出口是后头一个小洞。

And then there's the what happens next is that he has to actually get out of the rhino, and the only way to get out is to climb through a small hole at the back.

Speaker 0

一群游客正在 safari,看到后都惊呆了,说:天哪。

And there's a family of tourists who are on on safari, and they're like, oh, wow.

Speaker 0

快看。

Look.

Speaker 0

那儿有一头犀牛。

There's a rhino.

Speaker 0

接着吉姆·凯瑞从犀牛屁股上的一个洞里钻了出来。

And then Jim Carrey pops out of the rhino a hole in the rhino's bum, basically.

Speaker 0

他们惊讶地说:‘哇!’

And they're, oh, wow.

Speaker 0

母犀牛正在生产。

The mother rhino's giving birth.

Speaker 0

但出来的却是汗流浃背的艾斯·文图拉。

But it's Ace Ventura, the sweaty Ace Ventura.

Speaker 0

所有人都吓坏了。

And they're all horrified.

Speaker 0

所以,这就是你现在的感受吗?

So, yeah, that's that's what's going That's on with how you feel?

Speaker 1

对。

Yeah.

Speaker 1

简单说吧。

In nutshell.

Speaker 1

差不多就是这么回事。

Basically, yeah.

Speaker 0

我觉得吉姆·凯瑞被困在一台发热的机械犀牛里。

I feel like Jim Carrey stuck inside a hot mechanical rhino.

Speaker 0

太棒了。

Excellent.

Speaker 0

好吧。

Okay.

Speaker 0

所以。

So

Speaker 1

这周,上次我们聊了食物,问了你一堆问题,这次我们来谈谈童年。

So this week, last time we talked about I asked you lots of questions about food and this time we're doing childhood.

Speaker 1

我们应该感谢一位听众,是他在评论区提的这个建议。

And we should thank one of your listeners who suggested this in the in the comments.

Speaker 1

我记得他们的名字,就在这儿。

It was I've got their name here.

Speaker 1

他们用的是一个登录名。

They they they use a login.

Speaker 1

叫Hunzedu。

It's Hunzedu.

Speaker 1

谢谢您,Hunzedu。

So thank you, Hunzedu.

Speaker 0

好的。

Okay.

Speaker 0

谢谢。

Thank

Speaker 1

H-U-N-Z-E-D-E-D-U。

h u n zed e d u.

Speaker 1

所以我也说不准。

So I don't know.

Speaker 1

是有个叫Edu的人,自称Huns,像蜂蜜那样?

Is that someone whose whose whose name is Edu and they're calling themselves Huns, like honey?

Speaker 1

你有时候就这么写,对吧?

You write that sometimes, aren't you?

Speaker 1

H-u-n-z-e-d,Huns。

H u n zed, Huns.

Speaker 0

是的。

Yeah.

Speaker 0

Huns。

Huns.

Speaker 0

对。

Yeah.

Speaker 1

是有个叫Zedu的人,来自匈牙利?

Is it someone called Zedu who's from Hungary?

Speaker 1

所以H-u-n代表匈牙利,他们的名字是Zedu。

And so the h u n is Hungary, and then their name is Zedu.

Speaker 1

我不清楚。

I don't know.

Speaker 1

是从事教育行业的人吗?

Is it someone who works in education?

Speaker 1

是为了教育吗?

Is the for education?

Speaker 1

那是他们的登录名。

That's their login.

Speaker 1

我真的不知道。

Don't I don't know.

Speaker 1

也许他们可以在评论里告诉我们。

Maybe they could tell us in the comments.

Speaker 1

不过还是要特别感谢Hamzedu,提供了童年这个话题,今天我们就围绕这个展开。

But thank you very much anyway to Hamzedu for the topic of childhood, which is what we're going with today.

Speaker 1

那我们开始吧?

So should we kick off?

Speaker 1

对。

Yeah.

Speaker 1

那么最早的记忆是什么呢?

The earliest point then is what are your earliest memories?

Speaker 1

你最早记得的是什么事?

What's the first thing you remember?

Speaker 0

没错。

Right.

Speaker 0

我有很多小时候的记忆,但最早的一件,就是我躺在地板上,靠近地毯的地方。

I have loads of early memories, but the first the very fur the sort of earliest thing I can remember is being on the floor near the carpet.

Speaker 0

每当我努力回想最早的事,最清晰的回忆就是躺在客厅那块棕色地毯上,那时候我们住在伦敦西部伊林的那栋房子里。

I get this you know, when I try and think back as far as I can go, the earliest thing I can remember is this sensation of being down on the floor near the carpet, like this brown carpet that we used to have in the living room in the house that we lived in in in Ealing in West London.

Speaker 0

我依稀记得那地毯的触感,一种说不清的、挺舒服的感觉。

And I have this, like, weird distant memory of the carpet and the feeling of the carpet, like, quite a nice feeling of a kind of a I don't know.

Speaker 0

那种粗糙但很舒服的地毯触感。

Like, a rough but pleasant feeling of the carpet.

Speaker 0

我不确定这些记忆是不是我编出来的,但这就是我脑海里浮现的画面。

I don't know if I'm making these memories up or not, but this is kind of what I think of.

Speaker 0

当时我父母的音响正放着披头士的音乐,音箱在高处,所以尤其是《Rubber Soul》这张专辑的声音,

While the music of the Beatles plays on my parents' stereo system and the speakers obviously were up there, so the sound of Rubber Soul, specifically that album

Speaker 1

没错。

Specifically.

Speaker 0

从头顶传来,而我则躺在那块棕色地毯附近,感受着它的质地。

Coming down from above while I'm down near this brown carpet with this feeling of this brown carpet.

Speaker 0

每当我听《Rubber Soul》里的所有歌,总会不自觉地想起那种和地毯靠得很近的奇怪记忆。

And every time I listen to all the songs from Rubber Soul, I have this weird carpet sort of proximity memory that comes to me.

Speaker 0

挺奇怪的,对吧?

Strange, isn't it?

Speaker 1

是的。

Right.

Speaker 1

明白了。

Okay.

Speaker 1

那这个场景大概是哪个年代的呢?

What what can I ask what decade this would be for?

Speaker 1

棕色地毯可能是八十年代留下的七十年代风格。

A brown carpet could be kinda eighties leftover from the seventies.

Speaker 1

对。

Yeah.

Speaker 1

差不多是这样吧?

Is that about right?

Speaker 1

我们家那时候也铺了很多棕色地毯。

I think we had a lot of brown carpet in our house.

Speaker 1

我比你年长一些,但那时候家里还是到处都是棕色和橙色。

I'm a bit older than you, but there was still a lot of brown and orange.

Speaker 1

挺有味道的组合,对吧?

A lovely combination, isn't it?

Speaker 1

深棕色配橙色。

Dark brown and orange.

Speaker 0

是的。

Yeah.

Speaker 0

还有地毯方面。

And for carpets.

Speaker 0

是的。

Yeah.

Speaker 0

而且确实有很多那种橙色的东西。

And and, yeah, a lot a lot of that stuff in the kinda orange.

Speaker 1

深棕色的地毯上铺着亮橙色的地毯,你知道的。

A dark brown carpet with a bright orange rug on it.

Speaker 1

明白。

You know?

Speaker 0

对。

Yes.

Speaker 0

是的。

Yeah.

Speaker 0

七十年代和八十年代的浴室也特别流行这种颜色,比如浴缸、马桶和洗手池都是那种刺眼的橙色或绿色,墙上的瓷砖也是绿色或橙色的。

And bathrooms as well in the seventies and eighties had a lot of those kinds of colors, like a bath and toilet and sink set that were a kind of lurid orange or kind of green color and tiles on the walls that were kind of green or orange as well.

Speaker 0

那时候这种风格特别普遍。

That's quite normal in the seventies and eighties.

Speaker 0

你现在再回头看,

You'll come back

Speaker 1

是不是觉得挺熟悉的?

now, isn't it?

Speaker 1

说不定现在又流行起来了。

Is it it's probably fashionable again.

Speaker 1

七十年代我们家有很多叫Urcol的家具,边角都是圆润的,特别有七十年代的味道。

I think We had all this furniture in the seventies called Urcol, which was also of rounded edges and very seventies.

Speaker 1

到了八十年代,这些东西就让人看着特别不舒服了。

And then by the time of the eighties, it was absolutely revolting.

Speaker 1

说实话,我们都觉得特别难看。

You know, we thought it was disgusting.

Speaker 1

所以我们把所有这些东西都扔了。

And so we got rid of it all.

Speaker 1

现在你反而能在一些高端时尚精品店里看到它,比如那种特别难看的沙发。

And now you see it in, like, you know, exclusive fashionable boutiques and a horrible settee sofa.

Speaker 1

现在卖到两千英镑了。

It sells for like £2,000 now.

Speaker 1

天哪。

Oh god.

Speaker 0

是啊。

Yeah.

Speaker 0

对啊。

Yeah.

Speaker 0

潮流就是这样循环往复,真有点奇怪,对吧?

It's it's weird, isn't it, the way these fashion trends go around?

Speaker 0

以前被认为最低俗的品味,现在反倒成了最高级的品味。

What what what is considered the the lowest form of taste is now considered the highest form of taste.

Speaker 0

是的。

Yeah.

Speaker 0

这事儿挺有意思的。

It's a funny thing.

Speaker 0

我记得小时候趴在地上,听着披头士的音乐。

So, yeah, I remember being close to the carpet, hearing the music of the Beatles.

Speaker 0

我还有好多其他回忆,比如在法国南部度假的日子。

And I've got loads of other memories that I could mention, like just holidays, memories of holidays in the South Of France.

Speaker 0

虽然我妈总是负责安排假期,但大多数时候,她都会订个位于英格兰、威尔士或苏格兰偏僻地方的小木屋。

Although my mom used to organize the holidays, and most of the time, she would, like, book some cottage in the middle of nowhere in in England, Wales, or Scotland.

Speaker 0

所以我们经常待在英国乡下最偏远的地方。

So we we had a lot of times just kind of, like, in the in the remotest part of the British countryside somewhere.

Speaker 0

不过我们也会去法国南部度假。

But then also, we would have these holidays down in the South Of France.

Speaker 0

我清楚记得每次去法国的旅程,我们通常会到佩皮尼昂附近的一个小镇,叫塞雷,就在比利牛斯山脚下,特别美。

And I'd remember distinctly the the journey down to wherever we Typically, we'd we'd go to a place near Perpignon in France, a little town in the foothills of the Pyrenees called Seret, a lovely little spot.

Speaker 0

为了到那儿,我们得开车去多佛。

And to get down there, we had to drive down to Dover in the car.

Speaker 0

我记得我爸把我们那辆红色的福特Escort装上车顶架,全家一起开车去多佛,然后把车开上渡轮。

So I remember my dad packing up the Ford Escort that we had, red Ford Escort with a roof rack on it, and we'd all drive down to to Dover, and then we'd put the car on a ferry.

Speaker 0

我们都上了渡轮,车也一起被开上了船。

So we'd all get on the ferry, and the car would go on the ferry too.

Speaker 0

小时候,这事儿总让我特别兴奋。

And this was always so exciting to me as a kid.

Speaker 0

我就特别喜欢这种把一种交通工具放到另一种交通工具上的感觉。

Just I love the idea of putting transport on other transport.

Speaker 0

这真的太让人激动了。

That's just so exciting.

Speaker 0

就是那种开车开上渡轮的斜坡,把车停好,下车,再爬一段金属楼梯的过程。

So just the moment where you drive the car up the ramp onto the ferry and you park the car in the ferry and you get out of the car and then you climb up some metal steps.

Speaker 0

然后你就上了渡轮,船就开始横渡英吉利海峡了。

And then you then you're in the in the ferry, and then the ferry is going across the English Channel.

Speaker 0

然后你就想到,我们的车其实也正停在下面的渡轮里。

And then you think, but the our car is down below in this ferry as well.

Speaker 0

这真是太神奇了。

That's amazing.

Speaker 0

到了对岸,你再回到车里,从另一条金属坡道开下渡轮。

And then when you get to the other side, you go get back in the car, drive off the ferry on another metal ramp.

Speaker 0

接着开车到火车站,排在其他车后面,最后把车开上火车。

And then you drive to a train station and you get in a queue of other cars and eventually drive the car onto the train.

Speaker 0

是的。

Yeah.

Speaker 0

所以你确实能开车上火车。

So you could drive the car yeah.

Speaker 0

把车开上火车,我不知道现在还有没有这种服务,但以前火车有专门运车的车厢。

Drive the car onto the train and there's like don't know if this is still a thing, but the trains allowed cars they were like train cars that could hold cars.

Speaker 0

我这么说你能明白吗?

Am I making any sense?

Speaker 1

所以你是开车坐火车去的佩皮尼昂?

And So you went on a you went to Perpignan on a train in your car?

Speaker 0

把车停在火车上,然后我们睡在卧铺车厢里,每个小隔间。

The car you'd leave the car parked on one of the trains, and then you would then we would go into a sleeper car on the train where we had a little cabin.

Speaker 0

因为从法国北部到南部坐火车要很久,至少在以前是这样。

Because to travel by train from north to South of France takes a long time, or it did in those days.

Speaker 0

那时候还没有高铁。

It wasn't a high

Speaker 1

当时能达到的速度。

speed that was possible.

Speaker 0

对。

Yeah.

Speaker 0

天哪,突然风好大。

God, it's so windy suddenly.

Speaker 1

现在还有这种车吗?

Is that still a thing?

Speaker 1

在英国,大多数时候你根本没法把车甚至自行车带上火车。

You can put can take your car you can't even take your bike on a train in The UK most of the time.

Speaker 1

连你自己都挤不上去。

Can't even take yourself on

Speaker 0

坐火车。

a train.

Speaker 0

在英国,火车那么挤,你根本别想挤上去。

Don't yourself even on a train in The UK that's so crowded.

Speaker 0

不过呢。

But yeah.

Speaker 0

是啊。

Yeah.

Speaker 0

我不确定现在是不是还这样,但那时候的火车根本不是高速列车。

I don't know if it's still a thing, but it wasn't a high speed train.

Speaker 0

火车要花很长时间才能从北到南跑完全境。

It took a long time for the train to travel all the way down the country.

展开剩余字幕(还有 480 条)
Speaker 0

所以我们当时会睡在卧铺车厢里,那也特别棒。

And so we would be in a sleeper carriage and that was also great.

Speaker 0

还有一个很早的记忆,就是躺在那种卧铺车厢里,看着沙发座椅能折叠变成三层的上下铺,特别兴奋。

A very early memory as well is of being in this sleeper carriage and the excitement of the sort of sofa bunk the sofa benches that would fold and transform into three different bunk beds on three levels.

Speaker 1

太酷了。

So cool.

Speaker 1

我觉得我也不太确定。

I think I don't know.

Speaker 1

小时候,上下铺就让人特别激动,对吧?

As a kid, I I bunk beds, that was just exciting, wasn't it?

Speaker 1

我那时候一直想要一套,尽管根本没必要。

I always wanted one even though there was no need for one.

Speaker 1

我姐妹们每个人都有自己的房间。

And my my sisters all had their own bedroom.

Speaker 1

但上下铺就是让人觉得特别有意思。

But bunk beds were exciting.

Speaker 1

火车上的上下铺。

Bunk beds on a train.

Speaker 1

天哪。

Oh my god.

Speaker 0

不仅如此,那些火车上的沙发座平时坐着吃饭,桌子还很小,到了晚上却能变成床。

Not only that, but bunk beds on trains that are that normally are sofas where you're sitting and, like, you're having some food on a little table.

Speaker 0

然后,到了某个时候,对,就是那样。

And then at some point, like, right.

Speaker 0

咱们把这儿改成卧室吧,有皮带固定,一拉皮带,部分座椅就降下来,床就出来了。

Let's change this into a bedroom, and there are leather straps, and you pull the straps and the and the benches kinda go some of them come down, and then you've got beds.

Speaker 0

而且。

And the

Speaker 1

床离地好高。

beds are like

Speaker 0

小时候,那床高得吓人。

when you're a little kid, the beds are so high up.

Speaker 0

你懂的吧。

You know?

Speaker 0

这儿有一张床。

There's like one bed here.

Speaker 0

嗯,明白了。

Okay.

Speaker 0

那边还有一张床。

Another bed there.

Speaker 0

再往上,高得离谱的地方还有一张床,你爸可能就得睡那儿了。

And then there's like another bed impossibly high up there where your your dad's gonna sleep or something.

Speaker 0

是的。

Yeah.

Speaker 0

那些设计真不错。

So those were great.

Speaker 0

特别有意思。

Exciting.

Speaker 1

太让人兴奋了。

Very exciting.

Speaker 1

我到现在还觉得不可思议,车居然能上火车。

I still can't get over I can't get over a car on a train.

Speaker 1

简直颠覆了我的认知。

It's blown my mind.

Speaker 1

我以前坐过一次火车,我是说,作为成年人,这说起来有点尴尬,因为我根本不知道有这回事。

I I once took a train I mean, as an adult, so this is embarrassing because I had no idea.

Speaker 1

我从哥本哈根坐火车去德国的汉堡。

But I got a train from Copenhagen to Hamburg in Germany.

Speaker 1

是的。

Yeah.

Speaker 1

我从来没想过这回事,结果一上车,突然就有人通知大家要下车。

And I'd never given it a moment's thought, but I got on this train and then suddenly we were being told to get off the train.

Speaker 1

于是所有人都下了车。

And so everybody got off the train.

Speaker 1

我当时还是不太明白到底发生了什么。

I still didn't really know what was happening.

Speaker 1

火车好像停在一个车站里。

And the train seemed to be in some sort of station.

Speaker 1

所有人都在这站下了车,然后我们一起上了楼梯。

And then everyone got off at this station, and we all went up some stairs.

Speaker 1

我一出来,发现站在了一艘船的甲板上,原来火车是开上了渡轮。

And then I came out on the deck of a ship, and the train has got onto a ferry.

Speaker 1

这艘大船现在正载着火车,横跨这片海域,大概要开一个小时。

And this big boat is now going on a, you know, an hour long journey across this.

Speaker 0

等等。

Wait.

Speaker 0

什么?

What?

Speaker 0

火车上船?

A train on a boat?

Speaker 1

然后你就直接到了德国。

And then you you're live in Germany.

Speaker 1

所以我就,嗯,是这样。

So I I yeah.

Speaker 1

我的地理知识很差,根本没想到事情居然是这样的。

My geography was not great, but I had no clue that that's how you how it worked.

Speaker 1

突然间,我就站在一艘船的甲板上,眼前是大海。

So suddenly I'm standing at sea on a deck of a boat.

Speaker 1

但那时候我已经不是小孩子了。

But, you know, I wasn't a small child.

Speaker 1

这也不是什么童年记忆。

This wasn't an early memory.

Speaker 1

我当时都三十多岁了。

I was in my thirties or something.

Speaker 0

这确实挺尴尬的。

So that's quite embarrassing.

Speaker 0

眼见为实,还得是眼见为实。

Sight to still be sight.

Speaker 1

这事儿迟早得发生。

That was gonna happen.

Speaker 0

对。

Yeah.

Speaker 0

等等,有点不对劲。

But wait a minute.

Speaker 0

火车开上船?

A train on a boat.

Speaker 0

他意思是,他们真没把整列火车都搬上船,对吧?

He's telling he genuinely, they didn't put the whole train on the boat, did they?

Speaker 0

他们就是简单地……是啊。

They just kinda like Yeah.

Speaker 1

他开车开进一艘巨大的渡轮,渡轮开到另一头,火车再开出来。

He drives into this huge ferry, and then it comes up the other end, and off it goes again.

Speaker 0

别说了。

Shut up.

Speaker 1

这怎么可能?

How is that possible?

Speaker 0

火车太长了。

The train train's too long.

Speaker 1

不是的。

No.

Speaker 1

要么火车很短,要么渡船很大。

It was either a short train or a long boat.

Speaker 0

这主意真绝了。

Well, that's brilliant.

Speaker 0

哇。

Wow.

Speaker 0

我以前从来没听说过这种事。

I've never heard of that before.

Speaker 0

我的意思是,这真是太绝了。

I mean, how brilliant.

Speaker 0

我的意思是,确实就是这样。

I I mean, that that yeah.

Speaker 0

运输工具叠运输工具。

Transport on transport.

Speaker 0

这太厉害了。

This is brilliant.

Speaker 0

车开上船。

Car on a boat.

Speaker 0

车开上火车。

Car on a train.

Speaker 0

火车换轨道。

Train on a change the point of.

Speaker 1

我们这期节目换个话题。

We're gonna change the topic of this week's episode.

Speaker 1

这已经跟童年没关系了。

It's not about childhood anymore.

Speaker 1

现在讲的是运输工具叠运输工具。

It's about transport on transport.

Speaker 1

你还记得那次你把直升机放在飞机上的事吗?

Do remember that time when you put a helicopter on a plane?

Speaker 0

天哪。

Oh, god.

Speaker 0

我们要想完成这个,得有个人讲个把火车或者船放在车上的故事。

We what we need to fit to complete this, one of us needs a story about putting a train or a boat on a car.

Speaker 0

那样才算真正给这个话题画上句号。

That would be the, ultimate way to round this off.

Speaker 0

对。

Yeah.

Speaker 0

那好吧。

So okay.

Speaker 0

小时候的记忆。

Early memories.

Speaker 0

我还有其他一些小时候的记忆。

I've got other early memories as well.

Speaker 0

我记得小时候特别害怕过一次。

I've got a memory of being really terrified as a kid.

Speaker 0

那是非常早以前的事了,印象有点模糊,但我确实记得。

Really early memory, and it's very vague, but I do remember it.

Speaker 0

我爸妈和我叔叔到现在还总跟我提起这件事。

And my my mom and dad and my uncle will still tell me this again and again.

Speaker 0

我真的记得,不过我也知道,小时候的记忆,我们到底是真记住了,还是只是根据别人讲的故事慢慢拼凑出来的?

And I do remember it, although I know that, you know, maybe childhood memories, do we actually remember them, or do we just kind of, like, construct the memory based on the stories that we've been told by other people?

Speaker 0

这确实很难说清楚,对吧?

It's hard to tell, isn't it really?

Speaker 0

但我真的觉得,这件事我多少还是有点印象的。

But I honestly genuinely do think I can remember this one a little bit.

Speaker 0

就是那列火车。

So was this train.

Speaker 0

明白吗?

Okay?

Speaker 0

又是火车,交通工具。

Again, train, transport.

Speaker 0

话题又绕回来了。

We're back to that again.

Speaker 0

那时候我住在外公外婆家,我舅舅、舅妈、哥哥、爸爸都在,到了该睡觉的时间。

So I was staying at my grandparents, my mom's parents, and my uncle and aunt were there too, my brother and my dad and everything, and bedtime.

Speaker 0

我刚睡下没多久就惊醒了,特别害怕,哭得厉害,又喊又叫,情绪完全失控。

And I woke up sort of fairly soon after having gone to bed very, very upset, like having a sort of like just crying and really, really bothered, crying and screaming.

Speaker 0

大人们都搞不懂我怎么了。

And no one could understand what was the matter with me.

Speaker 0

怎么问都问不出原因。

They couldn't work it out.

Speaker 0

我当时简直彻底崩溃了,完全歇斯底里。

And I was absolutely sort of beside myself, like, completely hysterical.

Speaker 0

小孩子有时候确实会这样。

Like, little kids can can do that sometimes.

Speaker 0

他们可能会经历夜惊,尤其是在睡觉的时候,突然就陷入那种状态。

They're like night terrors or especially around sleeping, they can sort of snap into this thing called like a night terror.

Speaker 0

我当时的样子,简直像从恐怖片里跑出来的一样。

And and I was it was like something out of a horror film or something.

Speaker 0

我又是喊又是指,他们完全搞不懂我在说什么。

I was like screaming and pointing, and they couldn't work it out.

Speaker 0

最后他们才发现,原来是因为那个塑料玩具火车,大到小孩子都能坐上去的那种。

And eventually, they worked out that it was this kind of plastic toy train big enough that you could sit on the little kid could sit on.

Speaker 0

就是托马斯小火车,你知道的。

And you know Thomas the Tank Engine.

Speaker 0

对吧?

Right?

Speaker 0

所以,对于不知道的听众,托马斯小火车是一部很出名的动画片。

So Thomas the Tank Engine is just for any listeners who don't know, it's like a famous TV show.

Speaker 0

讲的是一群火车,但它们都有脸。

It's about all these trains, but they've got faces.

Speaker 0

火车前面有张脸,它们会互相说话,每个人物性格都不一样。

So the trains have got faces on the front, and they all kind of talk to each other, they've got different personalities.

Speaker 0

那个塑料火车是托马斯的廉价仿制品,不是官方授权的托马斯玩具。

So this plastic train was a kind of cheap copy of a Thomas the it wasn't an official Thomas the Tank Engine toy.

Speaker 0

就是别的厂家做的便宜货,也在火车前面加了个脸而已。

It was just some other cheap toy that had the same idea that they put a face on the front of this train.

Speaker 0

那个带着诡异脸孔的塑料火车把我吓坏了,直接把我吓到崩溃。

And this train, plastic train with a creepy face on the front absolutely freaked me out and terrified me, and it it caused me to have this massive sort of meltdown.

Speaker 0

是的。

Yeah.

Speaker 0

但我就是觉得那辆火车透着一股邪恶、吓人的气息。

But I just remember getting very malicious, terrifying vibes from this evil train.

Speaker 0

在我眼里,它就是纯粹的邪恶。

It just seemed to be pure evil to me.

Speaker 0

我哭得特别厉害,记得当时天都黑了,大家都从卧室出来,想帮我平静下来。

And I had a huge crying fit and it was just I remember it was dark and everyone came out of their bedrooms to kind of try and help me calm down.

Speaker 0

谁都没办法。

No one could do it.

Speaker 0

只有当那个火车被彻底搬出家、放到车库里时,我才终于不哭了。

And I only stopped crying and calmed down when the train was actually removed from the house entirely and was put into the garage.

Speaker 0

那时候我才慢慢平静下来,但只要那火车还在屋里,我就怎么也静不下来。

And then I then I calmed down, but I just couldn't calm down with that train in the house.

Speaker 0

所以你看,就是这样。

So there you go.

Speaker 0

这事儿是不是挺怪的?

That's a weird one, isn't it?

Speaker 1

从那以后,你就一直讨厌托马斯小火车,是吗?

And ever since then, you've you hated Tom Thomas the Tank Engine, did you?

Speaker 1

还是没有?

Or did you No.

Speaker 0

我其实很喜欢托马斯小火车。

I love Thomas the Tank Engine.

Speaker 0

我只是不喜欢那些廉价的托马斯仿制品。

It's just I just don't like cheap copies of Thomas the Tank Engine.

Speaker 1

你是因为觉得这东西太粗俗,破坏了你的审美?

Your your aesthetic taste was offended by this the vulgarity of this cheap

Speaker 0

这不是官方授权的周边。

It's not the official merchandise.

Speaker 0

这不是官方产品。

It's not official merchandise.

Speaker 0

但说实话,我那时候被吓成那样,其实也不算过分。

But I mean, I kind of to an extent, I kind of feel that it wasn't unreasonable of me to be so terrified of this thing.

Speaker 0

你想想,一列火车,脸上还长着五官,是不是挺怪异、挺吓人的?

Because when you think about it, a train with a face on the front, that's quite strange and quite creepy, isn't it?

Speaker 0

我觉得

And I think

Speaker 1

是啊。

yeah.

Speaker 1

这些怪东西,对吧?

Of weird things, aren't they?

Speaker 1

我小侄子看过一部纪录片,讲的是一个位于阿拉斯加或者加拿大、我也不太确定是哪儿的小镇,那里是北极熊迁徙的必经之路。

My little nephew saw a documentary about a town in I think Alaska or Canada, not sure which, where she's on the migratory route of polar bears.

Speaker 1

每年都有北极熊穿过这个小镇,翻垃圾桶找吃的,还撞窗户什么的。

So every year these polar bears come through this town and they go through people's bins looking for food and they bang on the windows and all this.

Speaker 1

我侄子那时候还很小,看了之后被吓坏了,真的被吓坏了。

And my nephew at a very young age had seen this and absolutely, absolutely terrified him.

Speaker 1

他是澳大利亚人。

He he was Australian.

Speaker 1

我妹妹住在澳大利亚。

My my sister lived in Australia.

Speaker 1

所以他想给我们找一只北极熊,可能性很小吧。

So the chances of him finding us a polar bear

Speaker 0

确实很低。

were quite

Speaker 1

你知道的。

you know?

Speaker 1

他曾经来英国探望我们一次,我就带他出去散步。

He came to visit in England once and we went for a walk, just me and him.

Speaker 1

那时候他还很小。

And he was only tiny.

Speaker 1

我牵着他的手。

He was so I was holding his hand.

Speaker 1

那天还下雪了。

And it snowed.

Speaker 1

他从来没看过雪,所以这一切都让他特别兴奋。

He'd never seen snow before, so this is all very exciting.

Speaker 1

所以我们出去看雪。

So we went out to look at the snow.

Speaker 1

当我们走过那片田野时,我感觉到他的手突然攥紧了我的手,好像想到了什么。

And as we were walking across this field, I felt his hand suddenly tighten in my hand as he he had a thought.

Speaker 1

他问我:马丁叔叔,英国有北极熊吗?

And he said, uncle Martin, are there are there polar bears in England?

Speaker 1

我当时就说:没有。

So I was like, no.

Speaker 1

没有。

No.

Speaker 1

没关系。

It's fine.

Speaker 1

哦,这样啊。

Oh, okay.

Speaker 1

然后他就放松下来了。

And he relaxed again.

Speaker 1

哦,是的。

Oh, yes.

Speaker 1

他一直到年纪挺大了,才不再害怕北极熊。

He was he was quite old before he stopped being scared of polar bears.

Speaker 0

嗯,我倒是能理解。

Well, again, I sort of understand.

Speaker 0

他叫什么名字?

What was his name?

Speaker 0

他叫什么名字?

What's his name?

Speaker 1

我侄子。

My nephew.

Speaker 1

对。

Yeah.

Speaker 1

约翰。

John.

Speaker 0

所以我理解约翰,毕竟他是怕北极熊。

So I understand John because polar bears yeah.

Speaker 0

你确实该怕北极熊,毕竟它们是极其可怕又危险的掠食者。

You should be scared of polar bears because they're, you know, extremely terrifying, dangerous predators.

Speaker 0

但显然,你不能对约翰这么说,对吧?

So, you know, But obviously, you can't say that to John, can you?

Speaker 0

你不能在约翰哭着说怕熊的时候,还跟他说要怕熊吧。

You can't say to John when he's crying in bears, yeah, yeah, yeah.

Speaker 0

你真该怕北极熊。

You should be scared of polar bears.

Speaker 0

它们真的非常危险。

They're really dangerous.

Speaker 0

要是有只北极熊在窗外,你肯定得尖叫着逃跑。

And if there is one at the window, you know, you should definitely run screaming.

Speaker 0

对。

Yeah.

Speaker 0

你不能对小孩子这么说。

You can't say that to a child.

Speaker 0

你得说:别担心。

You have to say, oh, don't worry.

Speaker 0

根本没什么北极熊。

There are no polar bears.

Speaker 0

不过幸运的是,在澳大利亚确实没有。

But thankfully, in Australia, yes.

Speaker 0

澳大利亚没有北极熊。

No polar bears.

Speaker 0

虽然其他危险的动物不少,但就是没有北极熊,那儿完全不用怕。

Plenty of other dangerous animals, but no polar bears, so nothing to worry about there.

Speaker 1

那我换一个话题。

So I'm moving on.

Speaker 1

你提到你家的棕色地毯在伊林,那属于伦敦西区。

You mentioned that you grew your brown carpet was in Ealing, so that's a part of West London.

Speaker 1

你真的很酷啊。

So you you're very cool.

Speaker 1

你出生在西伦敦。

You were born in West London.

Speaker 1

你整个童年住过多少个地方?

And how many is that where you lived your whole childhood?

Speaker 1

你一共住过几个地方?

Where how many places did you live?

Speaker 1

你是在哪儿长大的?

Where did you grow up?

Speaker 0

我其实出生在海威科姆,那可更酷了。

So I was born actually in High Wycombe, so even cooler.

Speaker 0

其实也没那么酷。

Not not really.

Speaker 0

海威科姆就是伦敦外头一个挺普通的小镇。

High Wycombe is just a sort of, I don't know, just a fairly average town just outside London.

Speaker 0

但我出生在那里,我们其实没在那里住。

But I was born there, but we didn't really live there.

Speaker 0

不过我出生后不久,我们就搬到了西伦敦。

But then, yeah, fairly quickly, fairly soon after I was born, we did move into West London.

Speaker 0

所以简单说,没错,就是在西伦敦。

So basically, yes, West London.

Speaker 0

后来我九岁的时候,我们搬到了西米德兰兹,一个偏僻小村,就在伯明翰和考文垂之间,紧挨着索利胡尔的边界,属于沃里克郡那一头。村里只有一家酒吧、一个游乐场,还有一家兼做邮局的小商店。

And then when I was about nine, we moved to the West Midlands, tiny little village in the middle of nowhere, somewhere vaguely between Birmingham and Coventry, right on the edge of Sollyhull where Solly the the border of Sollyhull and Warwickshire in this tiny little sort of tiny little village that just have one pub, one playground, one little shop with a post office in it.

Speaker 0

就这些了。

That that was it.

Speaker 0

周围全是小路和田野之类的地方。

And lots of lanes and fields and stuff like that.

Speaker 0

从伦敦的四区或五区一下子搬到这种荒郊野外,每天坐公交上学,路上都是农场和各种田园景象。

So going from, you know, like, I guess Zone 4 or Zone 5 of London to just what felt like the middle of nowhere, like taking the bus to school, past farms and things like that.

Speaker 0

对。

Yeah.

Speaker 0

所以说到童年,主要就是这两个地方。

So in terms of childhood, it was mainly those two places.

Speaker 0

一个还算城市的地方,然后一个特别乡村的地方。

So somewhere kind of fairly urban and then somewhere really quite rural.

Speaker 1

明白了。

Alright.

Speaker 1

你那时候喜欢那样吗?

And do you remember did you like it at the time?

Speaker 1

你对这个变动满意吗?还是想留在城里?

Did you did you were you happy with that change or did you want to stay in in the city?

Speaker 0

我对环境其实不太在意。

So I wasn't really bothered by the environment.

Speaker 0

那样挺好的。

That was fine.

Speaker 0

事实上,我们还挺高兴的,因为家里有个大花园。

In fact, I was really happy we were happy with that because there was a big garden, you know, in in the house.

Speaker 0

那房子有个挺大的花园,花园往下延伸,尽头全是野地,长着几棵树,像个小小的树林,可以钻进去探险,特别棒。

The house had a nice big garden with a the garden went down and at the bottom of the garden, it kind of was all wild and there was like a there were trees, a tiny little wood, you know, where you could go in and explore, and that was brilliant.

Speaker 0

但最难熬的是要转去一所新学校。

But the tricky thing was starting a new school.

Speaker 0

你知道的。

You know?

Speaker 0

那真的太糟糕了。

That was horrible.

Speaker 0

我本来就特别怕开学。

I mean, starting school already was difficult for me.

Speaker 0

我刚去伦敦上小学的时候,他们得拽着我,我边哭边喊,死活不肯进校门。

When I started when I went to primary school in London, they had to drag me screaming into the building.

Speaker 0

literally,我使出浑身解数就是不想进去,最后还是被硬拖进去的,哭得不行。

Literally, like, I was doing everything I could do to actually not physically go in and they had to pull me in and I was crying.

Speaker 0

真是够丢人的。

How pathetic.

Speaker 1

我觉得这挺常见的,对吧?

I think it's pretty common, isn't it?

Speaker 0

我八岁的时候,刚开始当老师。

Eight years old, was at the first was a teacher.

Speaker 1

你开始了第一份教学工作。

You started your first teaching job.

Speaker 0

但我其实是九岁,去乡下上小学,身边都是本地孩子,他们老拿我的口音开玩笑,因为大家都说着一口地道的乡下话。

But I was nine, so I started a new primary school in the countryside with loads of local kids and they sort of took the piss out of my accent and stuff because they all had these Were

Speaker 1

你是不是那种典型的伦敦东区小孩,满口‘哎呀我的天’、‘老兄’之类的?

you like a Cockney London kid where you like goblimey geezer?

Speaker 1

这到底是怎么回事?

What's going on here?

Speaker 1

是啊,没错。

Was, right.

Speaker 1

午饭几点开?

What time's lunch?

Speaker 1

什么?

What?

Speaker 1

没午饭。

There ain't no lunch.

Speaker 1

自带午餐。

It's packed lunch.

Speaker 0

这到底怎么回事?

What the bloody hell is all this about?

Speaker 0

而且他们

And And they

Speaker 1

他们就说:这口音是啥?

were like, oh, know, what's that accent?

Speaker 1

你哪儿来的?

You're from where are you from?

Speaker 0

你来自伦敦?

You're from London?

Speaker 0

你知道吧,他们全都是伯明翰口音。

You know, they're all sort of brummies.

Speaker 0

所以那时候我还没有伦敦口音。

So I didn't have a London accent at the time.

Speaker 0

我讲话跟现在差不多,只是音调没那么低,一般更高一些。

I spoke more or less like the way I do now, except not as deep, generally higher pitch.

Speaker 0

是的。

Yeah.

Speaker 0

你可以想象一下,卢克的英语播客,但音调更高,内容也短得多,因为那时候我的词汇量没现在这么丰富。

It's just imagine Luke's English podcasts but at a higher pitch and much shorter because I didn't have the same vocabulary that I do now.

Speaker 0

不过他们确实老拿我的口音开玩笑,那感觉太糟了。

But no, they used to take the Mickey out of my accent and that was horrible.

Speaker 0

我那时候特别紧张焦虑,说不上是想家,但刚进新学校那几周,真的很难熬。

I felt very kind of, I don't know, homesick's not the word, but I just felt very nervous and anxious going those those first few weeks of starting a new school, it was horrible.

Speaker 0

不过你应该深有体会,毕竟你上过寄宿学校,那完全是另一回事。

But you will know all about that because you you went to a you went to a boarding school, which is a totally different thing.

Speaker 0

那肯定很难适应吧。

And that that that must have been quite difficult to get used to.

Speaker 0

是的。

Yeah.

Speaker 0

总之,是啊。

Anyway Yeah.

Speaker 1

对。

Yeah.

Speaker 1

但你觉得这正常吗?

But I think it's off isn't it?

Speaker 1

刚上新学校的时候,总会有一种恐惧感。

There's a feeling of fear for when you start a new school.

Speaker 1

所有孩子在第一天走进新操场时,都会觉得胃里像打结一样,对吧?

Surely all children have that terrible feeling in your stomach of of that first day in a new playground.

Speaker 1

以后的人生里,再没什么比这更吓人了,你说是不是?

Nothing will ever be so terrifying again in your life, Is it?

Speaker 1

我的意思是,人长大了,换新工作哪能跟这比呢?

I mean, once you become an adult, starting a new job is not the same, is it?

Speaker 0

这就像是……

It's it's it's like a

Speaker 1

有点紧张,但毕竟你小时候经历过换学校,我说了,第一次在操场上休息、第一次在操场上吃午饭,那才真叫吓人。

little bit nervous, but I mean, once you've done that childhood thing of starting a new school, And as I say, I feel like the first break in the playground or the first lunchtime in the playground is a terrifying thing.

Speaker 1

你该去哪儿?

Where do you go?

Speaker 0

你去哪儿?哪儿都躲不了。

Where where do you which where there's nowhere to hide.

Speaker 0

你该去哪儿?

Where do you go?

Speaker 0

你怎么去跟别的孩子搭话?

How do you approach other children?

Speaker 0

天哪。

Oh god.

Speaker 0

是的。

Yes.

Speaker 0

真的很吓人。

It's terrifying.

Speaker 0

你就那么愣在那儿。

You just sort of stand there.

Speaker 1

你花了多久才克服这种感觉?

Did it take you long to get over that?

Speaker 1

后来慢慢适应了吗?

Did settle down?

Speaker 1

你最后喜欢上那所学校了吗?

Did you enjoy that school eventually?

Speaker 0

是啊,后来就好了。

Yeah, eventually.

Speaker 0

我不太记得具体花了多久。

I don't know how long.

Speaker 0

说起来,巧合的是,当时有个孩子也正好和我同一时间入学。

I mean, helped that there was another kid who started at exactly the same time as me just by coincidence.

Speaker 0

他也是从伦敦来的,住的村子跟我家那个一模一样。

And he also had come from London and he lived in the same tiny little village that I lived in.

Speaker 0

所以至少我还有个和我处境相似的人。

So I did have someone else who was in a similar situation to me.

Speaker 0

这多少帮了点忙,但说实话,我大概花了几个月, maybe 一年左右,才慢慢觉得那里像家。

So that helped a bit, but no, it took me probably a few months or maybe a year or something to kind of feel like I was at home there.

Speaker 0

后来上中学时情况就不一样了,因为我是和全班同学一起开始中学的。

And then went to secondary school and that was different because I started secondary school at the same time as everyone else in my year.

Speaker 0

我哥哥就没这么幸运,他是在中学二年级中途转进去的。

My brother, it was harder for him because he started that secondary school in the second year.

Speaker 0

他中途插班,很难融入,被同学欺负,还打过架,诸如此类的事都发生过。

He kinda joined in the middle of the second year and had a really hard time trying to kind of establish himself and he got picked on by kids and got into a fight and stuff like that.

Speaker 0

所以我相对轻松些,因为小学和中学都是和大家一起开始的。

So it was a little easier for me because I started at primary school, and started secondary school with everyone else.

Speaker 0

所以那也没那么糟。

So that that wasn't so bad.

Speaker 0

是的。

Yeah.

Speaker 1

所以你刚才问的是,你一共上了几所学校?

So you went to my question is here is how many schools did you go to?

Speaker 1

你在伦敦上过一所,然后在当地上了所小学,之后又去了更大的中学。

So you went one in London, then your little primary school locally, and then you went to a bigger secondary school.

Speaker 1

对。

Yes.

Speaker 1

那你喜欢上学吗?

And Did you would you say you enjoyed school?

Speaker 0

我觉得还行吧。

I mean, it was alright.

Speaker 0

还过得去。

It was okay.

Speaker 0

我我

I I

Speaker 1

我在学校的时候,基本就是埋头做事,不惹事。

think I kind of kept my head down at school.

Speaker 1

你懂的。

You know?

Speaker 1

是的。

Yeah.

Speaker 1

你可不是那种出风头、最出名的学生。

You weren't you weren't king of the king of the I don't know what the expression would be.

Speaker 1

最顶尖的学生。

Top kid.

Speaker 1

领头羊。

Top dog.

Speaker 1

领头羊。

Top dog.

Speaker 0

没有。

No.

Speaker 0

也不是真的。

Not really.

Speaker 0

我意思是,

I would I mean

Speaker 1

帮派老大。

Leader of the gang.

Speaker 0

我觉得美国高中更容易让人理解,因为大家都看过影视里怎么描绘美国的学校。

It's I feel like American high school is easier for the world to understand because they've seen it ever we've all seen the way that school in America is depicted.

Speaker 0

每次都是那套东西。

It's just the same things every time.

Speaker 0

你知道的,金属储物柜,总是一样的那几类学生。

You know, the metal lockers, and there's always the same types of kids.

Speaker 0

在美国高中,基本上就是那几种人:受欢迎的运动型孩子,刻薄的霸凌者,还有那种书呆子。

You know, in American high school, it's like there's basically like this the the popular sporty kids, and then there's the mean bully, and then there's the kind of geeks.

Speaker 0

基本上就这三类人。

And it's basically those three categories.

Speaker 0

女生那边也差不多。

And for girls, it's a similar story.

Speaker 0

你懂的。

You know?

Speaker 0

有爱运动的啦啦队女生,有心肠坏的女生——她们可能也是啦啦队员,然后就是那种比较普通的书呆子女生。

You've got the sporty kind of pom pom girls, the cheerleaders, and the evil girls who might actually be the cheerleaders too, and then the kind of more ordinary geeky kind of girls.

Speaker 0

但英国的学校就很难这样分类,对吧?

But British school, it's harder to categorize, isn't it, really?

Speaker 0

是啊。

But Yeah.

Speaker 0

不是。

No.

Speaker 0

我不是那种受欢迎的孩子。

I wasn't one of the cool kids.

Speaker 0

我也没觉得自己是那种特别聪明的孩子。

I wasn't really one of the really super clever kids.

Speaker 0

我也不是那种书呆子型的孩子。

I wasn't one of the geeky kids.

Speaker 0

我算是介于这些类型之间的那种人。

I was somewhere sort of in between all of those things.

Speaker 0

是的。

Yeah.

Speaker 1

一个恰到好处的平衡。

A happy medium.

Speaker 0

对。

Yes.

Speaker 0

我觉得是这样。

I think so.

Speaker 0

学校某种程度上就是这样,不算太糟,但有时候真像在求生,因为总有霸凌的人,孩子们彼此之间可能特别刻薄。

But it was like school to an extent is, it wasn't that rough, but sometimes it is a question of survival because there are bullies around, and kids can be pretty mean to each other and nasty to each other.

Speaker 0

对吧?

Right?

Speaker 0

所以,说实话,我在学校的时候一直低调行事,没什么存在感。

So, yeah, I I I feel like I've kind of kept my head down and didn't really have a lot of personality at school.

Speaker 0

我不确定这么说公不公平,但我确实挺内向的,不过还挺爱开玩笑的。

I don't know if that's fair, but I was I was fairly shy, but I was quite funny.

Speaker 1

那在学业上,你是那种尖子生,还是只是勉强应付?

Yeah, so Academically, were you a star or you just sort

Speaker 0

学业上?不算,我就那样吧。

of muddle along or Academically, no.

Speaker 0

我也就是比平均水平高一点点。

Again, I was just above average, just slightly above average.

Speaker 0

你要想想学校里有些孩子,其实他们的成绩拉低了整体平均分。

And when you consider some of the kids in the school, that doesn't necessarily mean that they dragged the average down quite a lot.

Speaker 0

所以我还算不错。

So I was okay.

Speaker 0

我中学的成绩还行。

My results from secondary school were alright.

Speaker 0

没一门课拿到A。

I didn't get an a in any subject.

Speaker 0

拿了五个B、三个C和一个D,就这样,也挺好的。

I got five b's, three c's, and a d, okay, which is fine.

Speaker 0

说不上让爸妈特别骄傲,也没什么好吹的,但也没考得特别差。

I mean, nothing to really make my parents proud, nothing to shout about, but no terrible failures at the same time.

Speaker 0

反正还行,够用了。

So it was fine, it was good enough.

Speaker 0

不过我相对擅长的科目其实是英语,还有戏剧,我也挺拿手的。

But the subjects I was probably better at were English and drama actually was one of the ones I was good at.

Speaker 0

我后来没继续学戏剧,但戏剧、英语、音乐、社会学我都挺擅长的。

I never actually pursued that, I didn't do drama studies later, but I was good at drama, English, music, sociology.

Speaker 1

社会学?那会儿已经算比较晚的课了吧?

Sociology a bit older, was it?

Speaker 1

你是说你把它当作一种……

You do that as like

Speaker 0

不是,中学时这门课是选修的。

No, they had that as an option at secondary school.

Speaker 0

是的。

Yeah.

Speaker 0

我学了两年。

I did it did it for two years.

Speaker 1

不太酷啊。

Not cool.

Speaker 1

你提到过戏剧,但学校的话剧也是挺重要的。

So the school play, you mentioned drama, but the school play is a thing.

Speaker 1

对。

Yes.

Speaker 1

我从来没参加过学校的话剧。

How what what I I was never in a school play.

Speaker 1

现在回想起来,我可能有点后悔,真希望当年参加过这样的活动。

I think looking back, that might be a regret that I wish I had done something like that.

Speaker 1

但不知为什么,自从参加过圣诞剧之后——也许你得跟观众解释一下,圣诞剧是孩子很小的时候在幼儿学校演的,大概三、四岁左右吧。

But for some reason, after the nativity play, maybe you should explain to viewers that the nativity play is when you're very young at an infant school, when you're sort of what, three, four years old, something like that.

Speaker 1

每到圣诞节,学校就会演一出关于耶稣降生的故事。

At Christmas, they put on a play about the story of Jesus being born.

Speaker 1

其他国家也会这样吗?

Do they do that in other countries?

Speaker 1

我不太清楚。

I don't know.

Speaker 1

这倒挺值得了解一下的。

That would be interesting to know.

Speaker 1

也许你的读者或听众可以在评论里分享一下他们的经历。

Maybe your readers, your listeners could put their comments.

Speaker 1

在英国,我们都有圣诞剧,而且所有家长都得去观看。

But in The UK, we have a nativity play, which all the parents have to go and watch.

Speaker 1

那场面真是烂得经典。

It's classically terrible.

Speaker 1

演技真算不上多出色。

Not not the greatest acting going on.

Speaker 1

为了确保每个孩子都有角色。

Some to make sure that all children have a role.

Speaker 1

当然,玛丽和约瑟夫是主角,还有几个牧羊人。

Obviously, there's there's Mary and Joseph, importantly, some shepherds.

Speaker 1

还有一个天使。

There's an angel.

Speaker 1

为了让其他孩子也都参与进来,你可能就是站在后面的一棵圣诞树。

But to make sure all the other children have a have a role, you might be a Christmas tree standing at the back.

Speaker 1

我觉得我当年演的就是一棵圣诞树。

I I think that's what I was, a Christmas tree.

Speaker 1

天哪。

Oh, no.

Speaker 1

我觉得我演的是个牧羊人。

I think I was a shepherd.

Speaker 1

我想我后来还演过,但那之后,学校里演戏就成了一件挺重要的事了,毕竟小时候三四岁的时候人人都要演圣诞剧。

Think I quite But after after the nativity play, which everybody does, because everybody is in the nativity play when you're three or four years old.

Speaker 1

从那以后,在学校演戏就变得挺有分量了。

After that, doing a play at school is is a sort of quite a big thing.

Speaker 1

你第一次演戏是什么?演的是什么角色?

What what was your first play and what was your first role?

Speaker 0

天哪。

Oh gosh.

Speaker 0

上中学的时候,我参加了戏剧社,我们戏剧课确实排过一出戏。

So secondary school, yeah, I was in drama and we actually with the drama class, we did do a play.

Speaker 0

演的是《圣诞颂歌》。

It was A Christmas Carol.

Speaker 0

对。

Yeah.

Speaker 0

我们演了《圣诞颂歌》。

We did A Christmas Carol.

Speaker 1

查尔斯·狄更斯的作品。

Charles Dickens.

Speaker 0

查尔斯·狄更斯写的,我演的是小蒂姆。

Charles Dickens, and I was Tiny Tim.

Speaker 0

哦,那可是。

Oh, that's

Speaker 1

挺重要的角色。

quite a big role.

Speaker 0

这角色确实挺关键的。

It's quite an important role.

Speaker 0

因为我要在台上死掉,所以特别重要。

It's quite a it's a it's a because I had to die.

Speaker 0

我觉得我是在台上死的。

I think I died on stage.

Speaker 1

天哪。

Oh my god.

Speaker 1

这一定很伤感。

It's got to be sad.

Speaker 0

这确实是个悲伤的故事。

It is a sad story.

Speaker 0

不。

No.

Speaker 0

这毫无疑问。

There's no question.

Speaker 0

不过说真的,当小蒂姆去世时,那其实只是一场梦。

Although although, to be fair, when Tiny Tim dies, that is just a sort of, a dream.

Speaker 0

在现实里,他并没有死,因为埃比尼泽·斯克鲁奇改过自新,照顾起了小蒂姆和他全家。

In the real world, he doesn't die because Ebenezer Scrooge changes his his ways and looks after Tiny Tim and his family.

Speaker 0

但确实有一段情节,在斯克鲁奇被那些幽灵展示的某个幻象中,他看到小蒂姆……你知道的,他亲眼目睹小蒂姆去世了。

But so there is a sequence though in which in one of Scrooge's dreams that or visions that he's been given by one of these ghosts, he sees Tiny Tim you know, he observes that Tiny Tim has died.

Speaker 0

所以我当时得演死掉,结果咳得厉害,直接倒在了地上。

So I had to die and I kind of had a coughing fit and fell on the floor.

Speaker 0

我记得自己当时拿了一根木头拐杖。

I remember having a wooden crutch.

Speaker 0

戏剧老师那儿堆满了道具,我就拿着那根木头拐杖,还说了几句台词。

The drama teacher had a room full of props and I had this wooden crutch and and then I, you know, had a few lines.

Speaker 0

上帝保佑我们每一个人。

God god bless us, everyone.

Speaker 0

然后一直咳个不停,慢慢从椅子上滑下来,摔到了地上。

And then kept coughing and coughing and slowly fell off my chair and fell on the floor.

Speaker 0

天哪。

Oh, no.

Speaker 0

他死了。

He's dead.

Speaker 1

你那时候多大年纪?

How old were you when you were doing this?

Speaker 0

我当时大概十二三岁吧,记不太清了。

I must have been about, I don't know, 12, 13, something like that.

Speaker 1

真精彩。

Great stuff.

Speaker 1

是的。

Yeah.

Speaker 1

后来你演过其他角色吗?年纪更大的那种?

And did you go on to other performances where you later you became older characters?

Speaker 1

对。

Yeah.

Speaker 0

我们在戏剧课上还演过别的剧。

We did other plays in drama class.

Speaker 0

我得演一个老头。

I I had to play an old man.

Speaker 0

有一出戏里,我和几个孩子一起演一个老头。

I had to play an old man in in one of the plays that the with a group of other kids.

Speaker 0

我们自己写了剧本。

We wrote the script.

Speaker 0

我们写了这部剧。

We wrote the play.

Speaker 0

我们排练了。

We practiced it.

Speaker 0

我们做了准备,然后在全班面前表演。

We prepared it, and when we performed it to the rest of the class.

Speaker 0

我演的是个老人,但我记得戏剧老师跟我说,卢克,你演得不错。

And I was an old man, but I remember that one of the things that the drama teacher was trying to tell me, he's like, Luke, you're great.

Speaker 0

你演得很好,但试着表现得更像个老人。

You're doing great, but try to act like an try to act like an old man.

Speaker 0

你要记住,老年人行动没那么利索。

I mean, remember, old people, they can't move very well.

Speaker 0

他们站起来、走路可能都有点吃力。

They might kind of have difficulty standing up and walking.

Speaker 0

他们可能会弯着腰。

They might be hunched over.

Speaker 0

他说,你得记住这些细节。

And he said, you know, remember those things.

Speaker 0

试着把这些表现出来。

Try to do those things.

Speaker 0

我觉得我演老人的时候,就是用一个14岁少年的身子到处走来走去。

And I think that my performance as an old man was just me walking around with my normal sort of 14 year old's body, walking around.

Speaker 0

没改声音。

Didn't change my voice.

Speaker 0

没改肢体动作,也没改站姿或姿态。

Didn't change my body language or my posture.

Speaker 0

我就这么走来走去,把台词念完,指望大家自己记得我是演个老人。

I just walked around and just delivered the lines and just, you know, expected everyone to remember that I was an old man.

Speaker 0

那根本算不上什么像样的表演。

It wasn't a good it wasn't a good acting job at all.

Speaker 0

对。

Mhmm.

Speaker 1

所以你从来没想过,或者说没考虑过当演员?

So you never wanted to you didn't, never fancied becoming an actor?

Speaker 1

或者

Or

Speaker 0

没有。

a No.

Speaker 0

其实我一直特别想当演员或者喜剧演员。

Definitely wanted I would've loved to be have been an actor or a comedian.

Speaker 0

这一直是我心底里特别想做的一件事,但我当时就是缺乏自信,也缺少那种足够的自我认知和成熟度,没法把它做好。

That was always something I secretly would've loved to do, but I just didn't have the confidence or the kind of self awareness, the maturity to be able to do it properly.

Speaker 0

我觉得主要原因还是我比较内向。

I think it was more I was shy.

Speaker 0

我确实挺害羞的。

I was quite shy really.

Speaker 0

我觉得,虽然我很享受表演和逗人笑,但骨子里的害羞和拘谨让我从不敢主动去争取这些机会。

I think, yeah, although I enjoyed performing and making people laugh, there was a certain shyness and a certain sort of reserve that meant that I didn't put myself forward for those things.

Speaker 0

其他孩子要自信多了,也更愿意站出来表现自己。

Some of the other kids were a lot more confident and willing to kind of put themselves out there.

Speaker 0

老师总会点名说:‘卢克,你来演这个吧。’

And I was the kind of kid the teacher would say, Luke, why don't you do this?

Speaker 0

我记得小学时,老师明明想让我演主角。

I remember that in primary school, whereas I was the teacher wanted me to play the main character.

Speaker 0

老师总说:‘卢克,你应该试试这个。’

I think, Luke, you should do this.

Speaker 0

但我就是摇头拒绝。

I And was like, no.

Speaker 0

不行。

No.

Speaker 0

不行。

No.

Speaker 0

不行。

No.

Speaker 0

不行。

No.

Speaker 0

我真的不想,就是不想去做。

I really don't you know, I don't want to.

Speaker 0

不想去。

Don't want to.

Speaker 0

最后我只好演了圣诞剧里的一头牛之类的角色。

And I ended up being a cow or something in the in the nativity.

Speaker 0

卢克,你可以演约瑟夫。

Luke, you could be Joseph.

Speaker 0

我觉得你应该演约瑟夫,卢克。

I think you should be Joseph, Luke.

Speaker 0

不行。

No.

Speaker 0

不行。

No.

Speaker 0

不行。

No.

Speaker 0

然后我就她了。

And then I I will she.

Speaker 0

你知道的。

You know?

Speaker 1

所以真正让你退缩的,其实是你的不自信。

So it was your lack of confidence really that held you back.

Speaker 1

如果你更有信心一点,本可以演主角的。

If you'd have been more confident, you could have been the main the main character.

Speaker 0

也许吧。

Perhaps.

Speaker 0

是的。

Yeah.

Speaker 0

我不确定这是自信不足,还是太谦虚,或者别的什么原因。

I don't know if it's confidence or modesty or or or what.

Speaker 0

对。

Yeah.

Speaker 0

可能我只是没什么野心吧。

But I just wasn't really ambitious, maybe.

Speaker 0

我没那种强烈的渴望。

I wasn't I didn't have that That burning

Speaker 1

这正好引出下一个问题:你小时候想做什么?

leads us nicely to the next question, which is what what did you want to do when you were a kid?

Speaker 1

你小时候想象过自己长大后会成为什么样的人吗?

What did you imagine you would like to be one day?

Speaker 0

我从来就不知道自己到底想做什么,到现在也一样。

I've never really known what I wanted to do, including even now.

Speaker 0

甚至每时每刻都拿不定主意。

Even just moment by moment.

Speaker 1

还是说,

Still like,

Speaker 0

那现在你打算干嘛呢?

oh, what are gonna do now?

Speaker 0

我不知道。

I don't know.

Speaker 0

我小时候根本一点想法都没有。

But I had no idea at all really as a little kid.

Speaker 0

我甚至不记得自己曾经想当消防员之类的职业,而那正是大多数孩子都会说的。

Even I don't remember a time when I wanted to be fireman or something like that, which is what most little kids will say.

Speaker 0

比如我儿子,快三岁了,他就想当消防员,因为他特别爱看《消防员山姆》,对火和救援特别着迷。

Like even my son who is nearly three, he wants to be a fireman because he loves watching Fireman Sam on TV and just he's obsessed with fire and emergencies.

Speaker 0

但我从来就没有这种感觉。

But no, I never had that sense.

Speaker 0

到了中学快毕业的时候,得去和职业顾问面谈一次。

And then at secondary school, just before you leave, you have to have a meeting with a careers adviser.

Speaker 0

每个人都要单独面谈一次,坐下来,他们就会问:你以后想做什么?

You have a one to one meeting, everyone does, and you sit down and they say, so what would you like to do?

Speaker 0

你有没有想过毕业后要干点什么?

Have you got any idea what you'd like to do after school?

Speaker 0

我就说,我想继续读A-Level,上大学之类的。

And I'd say, well, think I'm gonna continue to do a levels of college and stuff like that.

Speaker 0

他们想帮你们决定选哪些科目,或者有哪些选择。

They're trying to help you decide what subjects you will do or what your options are.

Speaker 0

我当时能想到的唯一一个职业,就是想当一个体育中心的主管。

And the only thing I could think of as a career was that I wanted to be the manager of a sports center.

Speaker 0

他们在我档案里写的是:我喜欢休闲中心管理员。

That was the thing that got written down in my folder that I like leisure center manager.

Speaker 0

之所以这么想,是因为我特别喜欢

The reason for that is just that I liked the

Speaker 1

我只是在笑。

I'm only laughing.

Speaker 1

不好意思。

Sorry.

Speaker 1

我现在只是在笑。

I'm only laughing now.

Speaker 1

看起来好像我不礼貌,但我笑是因为我们之前聊过这个。

It seem I look rude, but I'm only laughing because we've talked about this before.

Speaker 1

我知道你接下来要说什么。

And I know what you're gonna say.

Speaker 1

你继续说。

Go on.

Speaker 1

我不希望你的观众以为你一说完,我就当面笑你。

I don't want your viewers to think that as soon as you said that, I just laughed in your face.

Speaker 0

不会。

No.

Speaker 0

当然了。

Of course.

Speaker 0

没有。

No.

Speaker 0

我们以前聊过这个。

We have talked about that before.

Speaker 0

这个话题我们之前也笑过。

We've laughed about this before.

Speaker 0

你当初邀请我上你的播客时,我们就聊到这个了。

When you when you invited me onto your podcast, we ended up talking about this.

Speaker 0

而且,没错,我当初是想当休闲中心的经理。

And, yeah, I wanted to be a leisure leisure center manager.

Speaker 0

对吧?

Right?

Speaker 0

就是那种运动中心,你知道的,听众们。

So that is, you know, like a sports center listeners.

Speaker 0

你知道那是什么意思吧,就是可以去那里做各种运动的体育中心。

You know what that means, a sports center where you can go and do different types of sports.

Speaker 0

我觉得主要原因是在中学阶段,大概十一到十六岁之间,我一直埋头于自己的世界,对外面的事没什么兴趣。

And I think the main reason for that is that at secondary school, again, between the ages of sort of 11 and 16, I kept my head down and I wasn't particularly interested in the world.

Speaker 0

我其他朋友那时候开始迷上音乐,热衷各种新鲜事,还想出去玩、甚至开始喝酒之类的。

Some of my other friends were getting into music and getting into all these different things and kind of wanting to go out and even start drinking and all that stuff.

Speaker 0

而我的兴趣范围特别窄,就只对运动感兴趣。

And I was just kind of fairly limited really in my interest of things, and I was just into sports.

Speaker 0

我就是想一直踢足球。

I just wanted to play football all the time.

Speaker 0

我特别喜欢各种体育项目,尤其是运动器材。

I just loved all kinds of sport, especially sporting equipment.

Speaker 0

不知为什么,我特别喜欢那些在体育课上叫‘器械’的东西。

For some reason, I just loved apparatus, which is what they call it in school.

Speaker 0

上体育课的时候,他们管那些叫器械,就是这么个叫法。

So when you go to PE class, that's apparatus, that's what they call it in Yeah.

Speaker 0

对。

Yeah.
