你好。
Hello.
Welcome back to Luke's English podcast, a podcast for learners of English all around the world.
The episode today is called workplace scenarios, role plays for practical English.
And as the title suggests, I'll be doing some role plays in order to demonstrate various bits of practical English that you can use in various workplace scenarios.
Hopefully, this will be useful, instructive, and amusing as well as we inject a bit of humor into things along the way.
So I was inspired to do this episode by a comment from a listener that I got recently.
I actually can't remember which platform this comment arrived on or indeed who the commenter was.
But, anyway, here's the comment that I got.
It went like this.
It would be great to hear some episodes that include dialogues or vocabulary related to everyday workplace scenarios, such as conversations in a factory setting, interactions in a store or supermarket, or business presentations within a company.
As a learner aiming to improve my comprehension in real life professional environments, I believe these themes could be both practical and engaging for many listeners.
Now I thought this would be great and that in doing this, could use ChatGPT to help me do some role plays.
That's in voice mode where you actually speak to it and it speaks back to you.
I could use ChatGPT to do some role plays of general workplace scenarios in a factory, in a store, or supermarket, in an office, in a business meeting for presentations and negotiations, and we can see what kind of language comes up.
Because, yes, in voice mode, you can chat with ChatGPT.
It'll chat back to you.
And then when you've finished, it it actually gives you a full transcription of everything that you've both said, which I could then obviously, present to you on the episode PDF, and you could use it to notice language and study and so on.
So here's the prompt that I could ask ChatGPT.
So here's what I can put into ChatGPT.
Can you help me with this?
A listener wrote this comment on my channel and then the comment that I've already read to you.
Could we role play some of these scenarios so I can record our conversations for the podcast?
For each one, I'll give you the scenario, and I'll tell you what your role is and give you the relevant instructions.
Follow my lead and act out the scenario with me.
We'll do this in voice mode.
Okay and then I've got various suggested scenarios that I can work with.
Right so let me just open up ChatGPT and enter that prompt.
This is just in text mode at the moment so I'm just entering the prompt into ChatGPT now we'll see what it says.
All right here we go.
So it's as usual very positive.
当然。
Absolutely.
That sounds like a brilliant idea for your podcast.
I'd love to help you role play these scenarios.
Just give me the scenario, the context, what my role is, any personality or attitude instructions.
We'll jump in, and I'll improvise my part naturally so you can guide it, interrupt, or keep it flowing like a real conversation.
I'll keep my language clear, authentic, and with varied workplace vocabulary.
好的。
Alright.
So let's let's get started.
Let's kick off.
This could be fun.
And I'm gonna try to, like I said before, keep things light as well with a little bit of humor.
But it should be the right mix of, you know, normal useful English and a bit of fun as well.
So we're gonna start with the first scenario, which is in a factory.
Okay?
So a supervisor giving instructions to a new worker on how to use a machine.
I'll be the supervisor.
You can be the worker.
It's your first day and you're a bit nervous.
So I'm just going to give some instructions on how to use a machine.
Alright, so let's enter that.
I'm entering that and I'm going to say we can start this when I go into voice mode.
Alright, so let's do that.
So perfect.
I'll be the new worker.
It's my first day.
I'm keen, but a bit nervous.
Maybe trying to hide it with polite eagerness.
If you're eager, it means you're keen, enthusiastic to get started.
Whenever you switch to voice mode and begin, I'll jump in as the worker.
Ready when you are, boss.
好的。
Okay.
Now what ChatGPT doesn't know is that I'm gonna make this machine both incredibly dangerous and also extremely complicated to to use.
And it's it's his first day.
So he's we'll see.
We'll see how ChatGPT deals with the level of danger and the complexity of the instructions I'm gonna give to to him.
And it's him because in voice mode, ChatGPT uses a sort of British accent.
好的。
Okay.
Let's get started then.
I'm gonna enter voice mode right now.
喂?
Hello?
喂?
Hello?
Can you hear me?
能。
Yes.
I can hear you loud and clear.
好的。
Alright.
I'm ready to start whenever you are.
Just let me know what what to do.
Okay, so it's your first day here on the factory floor, and we've decided to kick things off by showing you how to use this particular machine today.
This is the hydraulic press, otherwise known as the industrial crushing machine.
This is, to be honest, a machine that we don't normally let workers use until they've had at least three years of experience because of the level of danger involved.
But we've decided to to, you know, kick things off by showing you this machine first.
This is gonna be the the your first experience here on the factory floor.
Have you worked on a factory before, by the way?
I know it's your first day.
You're probably feeling a little bit nervous.
But have you worked on a factory floor before?
Oh, wow.
This sounds like quite an intense machine to to start with.
I haven't actually worked on a factory floor before, so I'm definitely a bit nervous, but I'm eager to learn.
I'm sure you're gonna be fine.
You just have to make sure that you pay very close attention to my instructions because as I said, this is a, well, a lethally dangerous machine.
We have had a number of incidents in the past with this machine, especially those members of staff who aren't experienced with it.
Some of the guys here in the factory will will attest to that.
I'm sure you've seen one armed Greg over there.
I mean, you know, just talk to him at lunchtime if you wanna get some tips if indeed you do make it through all the way to lunchtime.
Anyway, are you ready to get started?
I'm gonna give you instructions on how to use the machine now.
Oh, wow.
That's, definitely a bit nerve wracking to hear, but I'm definitely gonna pay very close attention to everything you say.
I'm ready to get started whenever you are.
Don't worry.
Don't worry.
Don't worry.
好的。
Okay.
I know what I'm doing, and, if you just follow my instructions, everything will be fine.
好的。
Okay.
So let's talk about how to use the machine first.
Obviously, here is the loading area.
This is where you load in items that need to be crushed, and it's operated by a series of different control panels.
The green button there is the is the is the the main one.
That's the start button.
The red button there is the stop button.
But and and you'd simply press that button to to make the machine do the crushing.
But it's not quite as simple as that.
There are a few other, things that you have to bear in mind.
So there are also these two other switches just here on the side.
You need to flick those switches initially.
Make sure both those switches are engaged, the first two ones, but not the third one.
That's very important.
Do not engage the third switch because that could result in fatal injury.
Again, just ask one armed Greg about that.
So flick the two first switches and then press the green button to to get started.
好的。
Alright.
Got it.
So I'll make sure I flick the first two switches and definitely avoid that third one, and then I hit the green button to start.
But when yes.
But when you hit that green button, it's not as simple as just pressing the button as you might expect.
You've gotta actually press it twice.
So, the first time, you just tap it.
The second time, you may have to make sure you hold it down.
And when you hold that button down, it has to be held down for a minimum three seconds.
Okay?
Can you just repeat that back to me?
好的。
Alright.
So I tap the green button once, and then I hold it down the second time for at least three seconds.
没错。
That's right.
And it has to be three seconds.
Do you have a stopwatch or some kind of timer that you could use?
Because anything less than three seconds, could be, well, frankly, could be fatal.
This is why I'm giving you these specific instructions.
So do you have any kind of stopwatch with you?
I actually do have my phone with me, and I can use the timer on that to make sure I hold it down for exactly three seconds.
不行。
No.
不行。
No.
不行。
No.
不行。
No.
不行。
No.
不行。
No.
I'm sorry, but you're not allowed to use your phone.
Did you not get the briefing earlier on about no phones on the factory floor?
没有。
No.
A phone will not be the right thing.
You will need a stopwatch.
Oh, I see.
I must have missed that in the briefing.
好的。
Alright.
I'll make sure I have an actual stopwatch on me before I try to operate the machine then.
You really must have one.
You you gotta bring one in tomorrow because simply counting in your head could result in you doing slightly less than three seconds.
As as I said before, you know, that could be very dangerous.
So please make sure you bring in a stopwatch tomorrow.
Got it.
I'll definitely bring one tomorrow and, make sure everything's done safely.
Thanks for the heads up.
I really appreciate it.
好的。
Okay.
So I think it is time to get started.
Just before we kick off, I just want to make sure that you've, you you've got gloves and a and a hard hat.
Do you have those things with you?
有的。
Yes.
I've got them right here.
I've got my gloves on and my hard hats securely on my head, so I think I'm all set.
Great.
I mean, to be honest, this industrial crushing machine is so powerful.
It could easily, crumple a hard hat like a can of Coke, but still, it is a regulation.
I'm glad you've got it on.
So, let's see.
So oh, just one other thing.
Did you sign the, the legal waiver, earlier on?
That's a very important document.
Oh, I don't think I did sign that yet.
I must have missed that as well.
I'll make sure to do that right away before we get started.
不用。
No.
不用。
No.
Well, you know, you could just give me your your verbal agreement.
Basically, it's just a legal waiver that says that if there's any accident that happens as a result of you using the machine, that it's not the fault or responsibility of the company, the factory, or your line manager that you take full individual and sole liability for any injury caused through using the machine.
Can I just get a quick agreement on that one before we begin?
Oh, wow.
That sounds pretty serious, but I understand.
好的。
Alright.
You have my verbal agreement.
I'll, I'll be careful and follow all the instructions.
Fantastic.
Well, actually, since since you're in such an agreeable mood, would you mind just signing this as well?
Just a bit of small print.
Could you just sign that as well for me?
Thank you.
Oh, sure.
I'll take a quick look at it and sign wherever you need me to.
I trust that it's all straight for you.
Just there on just there on that line there would be great.
Thanks.
If you could just do that now.
好的。
Alright.
好了。
Done.
I've signed it.
Everything should be good to go now.
Excellent.
Excellent.
好的。
Okay.
So if if you'd like to just, begin by doing a, safety protocol that we do with the crushing machine, it does actually have sort of automatic safety system built into it where if, for any reason, one part of your body, a limb, a head, for example, was to get trapped within the workings of the machine, that it would be able to sense that the wrong item was in there, and it would automatically stop.
But in order to do that, the machine needs to get a reading of that body part.
So if you could just put your head into the plates of the machine just so that we can get a reading, then then we can get started.
Oh, that sounds a bit unusual, but I'm assuming you're joking.
I'll definitely follow.
不。
No.
不。
No.
不。
No.
不。
No.
I'm not I'm not joking.
没有。
No.
没有。
No.
没有。
No.
This is a genuine safety system.
It takes a reading of your cranium of your skull, so that if it detects something of that shape, that it will automatically stop.
So you've got to put your head inside the machine in order to get an initial reading.
Okay?
So if you'd like to just go ahead, put your head take off your hard hat and put your head into the machine so we can get an initial reading, and then we can get started.
In that way, you can continue without any concerns for your safety.
You'll just be able to freely use the machine.
And if, God forbid, anything did happen and you slipped and your head got jammed within the teeth of the machine, that you would be completely safe.
But, you know, as I said, we've got to get a reading first.
So if you could just put your head into the machine, please, we'll get started.
好的。
Alright.
I think, I might double check with someone else just to be sure.
I am because I'm the duty officer.
I'm the line manager.
I'm the health and safety, officer here on the factory floor.
I'm the only person you need to check with.
So, listen.
This is this is actually a crucial point.
And without this procedure, really, there's no way you can operate the machine.
So it's either you put your head in the machine now or you walk away.
This is a red line issue for us actually here at the company.
好的。
Alright.
I think I'm gonna walk away and maybe have a chat with HR just to clarify everything because I wanna make sure I'm doing things safely.
好的。
Alright.
If you walk away, that's it.
There's no coming back.
Well, I definitely wanna make sure everything's done properly.
So, I'll just check-in with HR, and we can figure it out from there.
Thanks for understanding.
HR are not gonna take too kindly to this.
They don't like interruptions.
I think you should just put your head in the machine.
I think I'm gonna trust my instincts on this one and just make sure everything is safe and sound.
You know what?
You know you know what?
I was just joking.
It was just a little joke.
It's a test.
The lads here on the factory floor, we like to fool around every now and then and try and persuade you to stick parts of your body into the machine.
But well done.
You you passed the test.
Well done.
You passed the safety test.
You're no fool, are you?
You're nobody's fool.
Well done.
好的。
Okay.
So if you like to get started, go for it.
好的。
Alright.
That was a pretty good joke.
I'm glad to know it was just a test.
好的。
Alright.
I'll keep all that in mind.
Let's get started and give this machine a try.
Thanks for the guidance.
好的。
Okay.
很好。
Great.
That's the end of that role play then.
Well done.
Thank you very much.
That was a lot of fun.
You did a great job with that scenario.
If you wanna do another one, just let me know, and, we can jump right into it.
好的。
Okay.
Thank you.
好的。
Okay.
So I've ended there.
And what ChatGPT does is it actually writes out the full script of everything that was said.
That was a bit ridiculous, but that was quite good fun.
I mean, I'm glad that he didn't agree to put his head in the machine.
Obviously, that would have been a very bad idea.
Let's move on to another scenario then.
Okay, everyone.
This time, it's gonna be I'm gonna mix things up, and let's say we're going to have a customer ask in a customer in a shop asking help finding a product.
I'll be the customer who can't find something.
ChatGPT can be the member of the staff who assists me.
好的。
Okay.
So let's let's do that then.
行。
Alright.
So I'm just adding that in.
I'll say, when I when I go to voice mode, we can start.
Now what I'm not telling ChatGPT is that the the item I'm looking for is a pair of camouflage trousers.
Camouflage trousers.
And the the reason I can't find them is because they are camouflage trousers and they they're just sort of, you know, impossible to spot.
Anyway, I'm gonna put that, prompt in.
And it says, perfect.
I'll be the helpful store employee, polite and professional, ready to assist you.
Whenever you go into voice mode and start speaking, I'll jump in naturally where, ready when you are.
好的。
Okay.
你好。
Hello.
Can you hear me?
能。
Yes.
I can hear you perfectly.
How can I help you today?
What, what are you looking for?
你好。
Hi there.
I'm looking for a product, and no matter how hard I try, I just can't find it.
Do think you could help me?
Of course.
I'd be happy to help.
What exactly are you looking for today?
So I'm I'm looking for a pair of trousers, a pair of camouflage trousers.
Ah, camouflage trousers.
Got it.
They should be over in our outdoor or sporting section.
Let me show you where that is.
Follow me.
Thank you.
好的。
Okay.
As we walk over to the area.
好的。
Okay.
行。
Alright.
到了。
Here we are.
And this is where we keep, all our outdoor gear, and you should find the camouflage trousers right here on this rack.
Let me know if you need a specific size.
Just on this rack, you say?
没有。
No.
I can't.
I just can't see them.
Oh, no worries.
Ray might have gotten mixed in with some of the other items.
Let me take a closer look, and, we'll find them together.
好的。
Okay.
Let's have a look around.
I'm seeing various trousers, but I just I just can't see the camouflage ones.
Gotcha.
好的。
Alright.
Let me just check with one of my colleagues.
It might be that we've moved them to another section or maybe they're in the stop room.
I'll find out for you right away.
好的。
Okay.
Thanks.
It's a wonder
You're welcome.
Oh, I was just thinking to myself.
It's a wonder how anyone finds camouflage trousers, you know, because since they're they're camouflage.
That's a good one.
They do tend to blend in, don't they?
好的。
Alright.
Let me, let me see what I can find, and I'll be right back with some Cannonflies trousers for you.
Thank you.
My pleasure.
I'll make sure we get you exactly what you need.
Just, give me a moment, and I sort it out for you.
Excuse me.
Any any news on those camouflaged trousers by any chance?
有的。
Yes.
I just checked with my colleague, and it turns out we have the re in the stockroom.
I'll go grab a pair in your size, and be right back with them.
好的。
Okay.
Great.
Thanks.
I'll just wait here then.
Absolutely.
Feel free to, make yourself comfortable, and I'll be back in just a minute with those trousers for you.
好的。
Okay.
Let's stop the role play there because, you know, let's be honest, the joke has been made, hasn't it, about the camouflaged trousers?
It's a bit of a pity you didn't kind of play along with that and say, I've checked in the storeroom and I just can't find them either.
It's a bit of a funny thing.
But anyway, we can end the role play here.
Got it.
That would have been a fun twist.
I'll, I'll keep that in mind for next time we do something similar.
Thanks for the feedback, and, I hope you had fun with that little scenario.
I did.
Thank you very much.
好的。
Okay.
So we end the voice chat, and, of course, ChatGPT usefully has added all of that stuff in there.
好的。
All right.
Let's move on to another role play.
We're going to do a business meeting now, I think, an office scenario.
So let's have this.
We're gonna have a Q and A session.
That's a question and answer session at a company.
And the issue is that our company is it's a podcast studio.
That's a studio that has a few little rooms where people can record podcasts, sort of soundproofed rooms, podcasting equipment.
And, the manager of the studios is is, fielding questions from staff about a merger which is about to happen.
合并。
A merger.
That's when one company joins with another company, they kind of become one.
So and our our podcast studio is going to merge with a local drum shop.
So the shop that sells drums and percussion instruments is gonna merge with the podcast studios, and the manager, the boss, is just dealing with questions from staff.
So I'm gonna, I'm going to just put that into ChatGPT right now.
好的。
Okay.
So I'll be the studio manager, says ChatGPT.
Calm, professional, reassuring, trying to handle concerns with polite positive language.
好的。
Okay.
So let's go into voice mode and we'll get started.
Here we go.
Good morning.
Thanks for joining the meeting everyone.
I have some exciting news to share about our upcoming merger with the local drum shop.
Let me give you a quick overview, and then I'll be happy to answer any questions you have.
好的。
Okay.
Great.
Looking forward to finding out more.
当然。
Absolutely.
So, the idea behind this merger is to bring a unique blend of creativity and collaboration to our space.
I know some of you might have concerns about noise levels, so feel free to ask anything that's on your mind.
Well, yes.
And considering we'll be merging with the local drum shop, does that not mean that there'll be a lot of background noise while everyone's recording their podcasts?
I don't understand how this is gonna work.
That's a great question.
We've actually thought about that and, have plans to soundproof the studio areas even more effectively.
Plus, we'll coordinate schedules so that recording sessions and drumming sessions don't overlap and cause any disruption.
Not so sure about that.
Another very important question.
Will there still be free biscuits for staff in the office?
Absolutely.
The free biscuits are definitely staying.
In fact, we might even expand our snack selection to keep everyone happy and energized.
Oh, that sounds good.
That sounds fantastic.
What about, tea and coffee making facilities?
Will will will you be expanding those as well?
We sure will.
We're planning to upgrade the tea and coffee station so that everyone has plenty of options.
We wanna make sure the workspace is as comfortable as possible for everyone.
好的。
Okay.
This sounds pretty good.
One question.
Will I still have to work with Adrian?
Because don't say anything, but, I mean, it's been very difficult for a variety of reasons, including his bad breath, which everyone agrees is a problem.
But there's it's more than that.
Will I still have to work with Adrian?
I appreciate you being honest about that.
We'll definitely take everyone's preferences and comfort into account when we arrange the new team.
So, we can definitely have a chat about that and, see what we can do.
It'd be nice to get, like, a a firm response to that right now.
Could you tell me yes or no?
Will I still have to work with Adrian?
This is a a crucial point for me, actually.
I understand how important that is for you.
And while I can't give you a definitive yes or no on the spot, can assure you that we'll do our best to accommodate your needs and make sure everyone is comfortable with the new arrangements.
好的。
Okay.
Now whenever, you know, there's a merger, often there are job losses.
Just be frank with me now.
Will there be redundancies at the company?
I appreciate your honesty, and I understand that concern.
We are doing everything we can to ensure that everyone on the team has a place, and our goal is to keep the transition as smooth and positive as possible for everyone.
好的。
Okay.
You didn't really give a clear answer to that.
I'd like to know.
Mean, this is always what happens whenever there's a merger.
There's no way that the two companies I mean, what was the point of the merger anyway if it's not to kind of downsize and become more efficient?
Just be honest with me.
Is my job secure?
Is my jobs gonna be safe?
Will I still have a job at the end of the month?
I hear you, and I understand that it's really important to have clarity.
Our intention with this merger is to grow and create more opportunities, not to downsize.
At this moment, I can assure you that we're committed to keeping everyone on board, and we'll keep communication open so that you know exactly where you stand.
You're committed to keeping everyone on board.
Does that mean that you will be keeping everyone on board?
I mean, it's like saying we want to keep everyone on board.
We're committed to it, but be just be clear.
Will you be keeping everyone on board?
I understand your need for a clear answer.
As of now, our plan is absolutely to keep everyone on board, and we have no intentions of making any redundancies.
Your your plan is to
your plan is to keep everyone on board.
What what does that mean?
It means that our intention is to maintain all current positions and ensure that everyone continues in their roles.
好的。
Okay.
We really value our team, and, we're working hard to make sure that everyone is secure in their jobs.
好的。
Okay.
听着。
Look.
Thanks so much for answering that question, sincerely.
But, you know, obviously, it's important for me, so I appreciated your honesty and your your clarity on that.
You're very welcome, and I completely understand how important it is to have that reassurance.
If you have any more questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out anytime.
好的。
Okay.
Thank you very much.
Let's end the role play there.
Could you give me your feedback on the way I handled that in terms of, for example, the way I structured my English?
Absolutely.
You did a fantastic job of asking clear and direct questions, and you kept the tone very professional and, engaging.
You also did a great job of following up for clarity, which is always helpful in a conversation like this.
Overall, it was really well done, and you kept it natural and engaging.
好的。
Alright.
不错。
Nice one.
Thanks very much.
好的。
Okay.
I'm gonna stop now.
Okay then.
So that's that.
Very positive.
ChatGPT always.
Always very positive.
Let's have another situation.
This time, it's a sort of a a problem with a customer in a supermarket, let's say.
So a cashier, that's the person who takes the money, you know, deals with the transactions at the till.
A cashier is dealing with a small issue with the customer.
The the, the issue is a wrong price or at least, not a wrong price, short change.
So a customer says they've been short changed.
Do you know what that means?
Short changed means that, the the wrong amount of change was given back.
So when you buy something, let's say you pay with a £20 note, and the change is the money that you get back.
And so the customer thinks they've been short changed, meaning that they've not been given enough money.
Understand.
So a cashier dealing with a small issue.
You could be the ChatGPT is gonna be the cashier.
I'll be the customer with the problem.
So let's go.
好的。
Okay.
你好?
Hello?
Excuse me.
Oh, hi there.
是的。
Yes.
How can I help?
Is everything alright with your purchase?
I think you've given me you you didn't give me the right change.
Oh, I'm so sorry about that.
Let me take a look and see what happened.
Could I just, check your receipt and the amount you handed over?
给您。
There you go.
You see, bought this pack for £4.
You gave me £6 back, but I paid with a £20 note.
Oh, I see what happened there.
I'm so sorry about that mix up.
Let me get you the correct change right away.
Thanks for bringing that to my attention.
Thank you very much.
You're very welcome.
I'm glad we could sort that out quickly.
If there's anything else I can do for you, just let me know.
好的。
Okay.
Thanks.
You know what?
Let's do that role play again, but this time, you are gonna deny that I paid with a £20 note.
As far as you're concerned, in your memory, I paid with a £10 note, and so £6 is the correct amount of change.
So you're gonna deny, the £20 note, claim.
Okay?
好的。
Alright.
Got it.
I'll take that approach this time.
Feel free to start whenever you're ready, and I'll follow your lead.
Excuse me?
是的。
Yes.
Of course.
How can I help you today?
Is there something I can assist you with?
是的。
Yes.
I just bought this pack, and, it was four pounds.
I gave you a £20 note, and you've only given me £6 change.
You've shortchanged me.
Oh, I'm so sorry for the confusion.
I actually remember you handing me a £10 note, which is why I gave you £6 in change.
Are you sure it was a £20 note?
是的。
Yes.
I'm absolutely certain it was a £20 note.
I only had a £20 note in my in my wallet, and I definitely gave you a £20 note.
I understand, and I definitely wanna make sure everything is correct for you.
Let me double check the kill and, see if there's any discrepancy.
We'll sort this out together.
出入?
Discrepancy.
Really?
Are you suggesting I might be a liar?
Oh, not at all.
I definitely didn't mean it that way.
I just wanna make sure we get everything right for you.
Let me just check and confirm so we can clear up any misunderstanding.
好的。
Okay.
So have you checked?
I think an apology might be, coming my way.
I appreciate your patience.
Let me check right now.
It looks like you were right, and, I do apologize for the confusion.
Let me get you the correct change, and thank you for bringing it to my attention.
Thank you very much.
You're very welcome.
This is where I can look very smug for being right.
你
You
definitely deserve that moment.
I'm, I'm just glad we got everything sorted out.
Thanks again for your understanding.
好的。
Alright.
Any feedback you can give me on the things I said?
You did a great job keeping things clear and direct, and you expressed your concerns confidently.
You also kept a polite tone, which is always great in these kinds of interactions.
Overall, you handled it really well and kept it friendly and constructive.
Could you when I ask for feedback in this in these role plays, could you be a little bit more critical and perhaps just find a couple of negative points that you could criticize me on.
Absolutely.
I can do that.
One thing you might consider is maybe being a bit more specific with your questions or concerns to get even clearer answers.
But overall, you did a fantastic job, I really enjoyed the interaction.
好的。
Okay.
Me too.
So let's end that there.
And let's let's find another one.
好的。
Okay.
Let's go back to the factory situation.
So we're gonna have a worker reporting a problem with a machine, and, the worker reports, this to a duty officer.
I'll be the worker reporting the problem with the machine, and ChatGPT can be the duty officer who asks for information about the machine and responds accordingly.
Alright then.
What ChatGPT doesn't know is that the problem with the machine is that there is a human hand stuck in it.
I'm curious to see how ChatGPT is gonna respond to that.
So I'm just punching in the the the prompt.
好了。
There we go.
你好。
Hello.
Excuse me.
Are you the duty officer on the factory floor this afternoon?
是的。
Yes.
That's me.
How can I help you?
Is there something going on with one of the machines?
There's a there's a problem with the machine.
I I need to tell someone about it.
I think you're the person I need to to tell.
Is that right?
对。
Yes.
没错。
Absolutely.
You're in the right place.
Could you let me know which machine it is and what kind of issue you're noticing?
It's it's it's the, this machine here.
It's B749, the, packing machine.
Got it.
The B749 packing machine.
And, what exactly seems to be the issue with it?
Is it making any strange noises, or is it not functioning properly?
It's not functioning probably prop proper it's not functioning properly.
There appears to be something stuck within the gears of the machine, which means that it can't do you know, it can't it can't pack it can't pack things because there's something stuck in there.
好的。
Alright.
That sounds serious.
Thanks for letting me know.
Let's make sure we stop the machine and put a safety lockout on it so no one tries to use it.
I'll also get maintenance over here right away to clear that jam.
好的。
Okay.
There's just one other thing though that the I didn't tell you.
It's a bit weird that the I had a look inside.
The thing that's stuck in there, there's a well, there's a there's there's something there's something specific stuck inside the machine.
Oh, that does sound unusual.
Could you let me know what exactly is stuck in there?
That way we can let the maintenance team know what to expect.
It appears to be a human hand.
Oh, that sounds really serious.
好的。
Alright.
Let's make sure we handle this carefully and get the proper assistance.
I'm gonna call the safety team immediately, and, we'll make sure everything is taken care of properly.
Thanks for reporting this.
等等。
Hold on.
But who but whose hand is that?
Why is there a hand why is there a hand in the machine?
Understand this is really shocking and unexpected.
Let's take a deep breath and stay calm.
We'll get to the bottom of this and make sure everything is handled safely and thoroughly.
You're doing the right thing by reporting it.
But there shouldn't be a hand in the machine.
It's it's very upsetting.
I think I need to take the rest of the afternoon off and the rest of the week off, but with full pay.
I completely understand that this is a really distressing situation.
Let's make sure you're alright first, and we can definitely talk to HR and make sure you get the time you need.
Just take care of yourself, and we'll handle everything from here.
好的。
Okay.
I'm I'm definitely not okay, but thanks.
I completely understand, and it's alright to feel that way.
Just know that we're here to support you, and we'll make sure everything is taken care of.
If there's anything else you need, just let us know.
Have you got any idea whose hand that might be?
I mean, I was looking at one armed Greg.
I mean, but I could it be his hand?
I could understand why you'd be concerned, but let's not jump to any conclusions.
We'll let the proper authorities and safety team, handle the investigation.
In the meantime, please take care of yourself, and we'll make sure everything's managed properly.
Let let let the safety team handle the situation.
Just, you know, just be careful, because, handle handling is handling the hand.
I appreciate the humor even in this stressful moment.
We'll definitely make sure everything is handled with care and sensitivity.
Did it again.
Did it again.
You said it again.
Anyway, that's enough.
Thank you very much.
Feedback time, please.
You did a great
job staying in character and making the situation engaging.
One small note would be to maybe give a bit more detail about the machine or the situation at the start, just to set the scene a bit more.
But overall, you kept it dynamic and really engaging, so well done.
Engaging is the the word here, isn't it?
It certainly is the keyword here.
Absolutely.
Definitely brought that element of engagement into the scenario.
It made the role play really lively and interesting, so great job on that.
好的。
Okay.
That's enough of that one.
Thank you very much.
好的。
Okay.
I think what we're gonna do now is go back to an office environment, and we'll do some sort of negotiation.
Okay?
So the situation I've chosen here is a a negotiation.
So a buyer of office supplies, that's, you know, stationary office equipment.
A company needs more office equipment, and the person responsible, the buyer, is negotiating a bulk order from a stationer.
A stationer is a company that sells office equipment, and a bulk order is a large order where you order lots of things all in one go.
And normally, in that situation, you would expect to get some sort of discount when you order in bulk.
So I'll be the buyer of of office stationery and equipment.
ChatGPT is gonna be the seller.
Let's negotiate fair prices and terms for the sale of various items, which I will ask about during the meeting.
I need to make a note of the of the things I need.
Let's say I need some staples.
I'll say a million.
Why not?
We need blue pens, black pens, and let's go for 1,000 each.
And, I don't know, plain paper, 10,000 packs, and something stupid, something ridiculous.
What what what could it be?
What could be a stupid, ridiculous thing that they would need in the office?
I know.
An owl.
An owl.
That's a kind of bird, right?
A bird that comes out at night, which is obviously completely ridiculous.
There's no way that the company would want to purchase an owl.
But let's say that we want to get an owl.
Any owl really will do.
An owl.
好的。
Okay.
And we'll see how ChatGPT responds to that.
I'm gonna try to I'm gonna ask for their price list, and then I'm gonna ask for something ridiculous, discount.
We also need so we we're gonna try and negotiate the discount.
Okay then.
Let's do that.
This might be the last one.
你好。
Hello there.
Thanks very much for coming to this meeting today.
Oh, sorry.
Well, thanks very much for hosting me, in your offices today for this, for this this sales negotiation.
Oh, it's absolutely our pleasure.
We're really happy to have you here and excited to discuss how we can meet your office supply needs.
What kind of items are you looking at today?
Well, I've got a list of, requirements here.
Let's kick off with the first item on the list.
Why not?
So I'm looking for some staples.
Obviously, we do a tremendous amount of stapling in our company.
After all, we are a stapling company.
That's why people come to us.
They come to us and they say, look.
We've got some paper.
We need it to be stapled together.
Is there is there anything you can do?
And we say, yeah.
Of course.
We're a stapling company.
We will staple your paper together.
So but to cut a long story short, we need some staples.
Got it.
Staples are definitely a top priority for a a stapling company.
We have a variety of staple sizes and quantities.
How many boxes are you thinking of ordering in milk?
So we're looking for a a total of a a million staples.
A million staples.
Got it.
We can definitely accommodate that.
We offer bulk discounts for large orders, so I'm sure we can come up with a price that works for both of us.
Let's discuss what kind of pricing you're looking for.
Well, what's what's your normal list price for, what's your normal list price per item for Staples?
Our standard list price for Staples usually comes out to about £2 per box of a thousand Staples.
Of course, for an order of a million, we can definitely look into a significant bulk discount for you.
好的。
Okay.
Well, what kind of discount could you offer?
For an order that large, we could look at something like a 20% discount off the list price, which would bring the cost down quite a bit.
We can also discuss flexible payment terms to make it even more convenient for you.
八折。
20%.
To be honest, I was looking for something closer to 95%.
Would that be possible, do you think?
I appreciate where you're coming from, but 95% might be a bit steep for us.
However, I'm definitely willing to see if we can meet somewhere in the middle and come up with a deal that works well for.
好的。
Okay.
You know, offer me a percentage.
What what kind of thing you're thinking of?
If we're gonna meet in the middle?
How about we aim for somewhere around 40%?
That way you get a significant reduction, and we can still ensure top notch quality and service for you.
40%?
40%?
