Speaker 0

You should always build a company that a public company could always buy.

Speaker 0

It's not mom and pop time anymore.

Speaker 0

A business that's not run properly or set up properly for an exit is probably not running well anyway.

Speaker 0

That's how you gain real wealth.

Speaker 0

Try to find deals where you have equity and not just a fee.

Speaker 0

I've had many moments in my life where I could have gone left or right, and I decided to just say, let's just keep going forward.

Speaker 0

We try to create ecosystems where they all feed each other.

Speaker 0

By having that in one property, it lets us hyper focus on the guests.

Speaker 0

They don't see me as just a restaurateur or just a nightclub owner.

Speaker 0

They see me as an entrepreneurial that's gonna help them with their lives.

Speaker 0

I'm very protective over people, and I send them my deal flow.

Speaker 0

You're adding value to people's lives.

Speaker 0

That's a coupon that's gonna come back.

Speaker 0

The one thing they don't really talk about with you in college, how important it is and what it means to own an IP.

Speaker 0

I also won't do a deal with somebody if I don't own the IP as part of it.

I'm Rudy Rush, and trust me, you're in the right place.

Speaker 1

Let's get Unplugged.

Speaker 2

Ladies and gentlemen, today's guest is an expert of experts.

Speaker 2

He has a new book out, Take It Personal, that not only is a blueprint for mentality, it's a blueprint for strategy, it's a blueprint of life when you read it from beginning to end.

Speaker 2

He's gonna talk to us about this book, the reason behind the book.

Speaker 2

He's the founder of Groot Hospitality.

Speaker 2

He is a trailblazer.

Speaker 2

He's visionary.

Speaker 2

He's an influential entrepreneur.

Speaker 2

Ladies and gentlemen, I welcome mister David Grutman.

Speaker 2

David, how are doing today, brother?

Speaker 0

I'm doing great.

Speaker 0

Thanks for having me, by the way.

Speaker 0

Thank you, Mick.

Speaker 2

不是。

No.

Speaker 2

Thank you, brother.

Speaker 2

Before we get into the book, because I'm gonna tell you the reason I initially connected with the book.

Speaker 2

But but before we get there, I love opening the show asking my guest about what I call their because.

Speaker 2

That thing that's deeper than your why.

Speaker 2

Like, if I were to ask you about your why, you might say your kids.

Speaker 2

And then when I say, but why are they your why?

Speaker 2

That sentence usually starts off with, well, because dot dot dot.

Speaker 2

And I care about that.

Speaker 2

So if I were to say David, man, like, all of the amazing things that you're doing, all the things that you've done for people, what's your because?

Speaker 2

Why do you keep doing the things that you do?

Speaker 0

You know, as soon as I accomplish something, I wanna try to take something else on.

Speaker 0

Again, I have very high ADD.

Speaker 0

So for me, it's, you know, what's next?

Speaker 0

What can I do differently than my predecessors or, you know, competitors?

Speaker 0

And I think for this one in particular, the book, I'm really on this mission to try to build legacy as I'm getting older now.

Speaker 0

And I think if I didn't do the book now and I did it after I retired, it wouldn't just be, it wouldn't be relevant to people as much as I'm in it today.

Speaker 2

是的。

Yeah.

Speaker 2

I I love it, man.

Speaker 2

And and you're so right.

Speaker 2

And and I see your because in everything that you do, right?

Speaker 2

You know, with Groot Hospitality expanding from Miami into Vegas and just kind of taking over and, like, the things that you do there with your business, man.

Speaker 2

Like, talk to us about, you know, a little bit about what your hospitality company does and, like, that big expansion that you had to take over the world.

Speaker 0

We we were able to do poppy steak, Komodo, live and live beach all under one roof, which is the Fountain Blue Las Vegas.

Speaker 0

And we try to build an ecosystem for ourselves here in Miami.

Speaker 0

So in to be able to do it in one property in Las Vegas, where, you know, we capture you for dinner, you'll have a drink afterwards at another one of our restaurants and then go right up to LIV.

Speaker 0

Or you can start your day at LIV Beach, take a nap, then go eat a poppy steak, go to Komodo and then go to LIV afterwards.

Speaker 0

We try to create ecosystems where they all feed each other.

Speaker 0

And I think, by having that in one property, it lets us hyper focus on the guest.

Speaker 2

Yeah.

Speaker 2

没错。

It does.

Speaker 2

And I I will tell you there there's no property like yours.

Speaker 2

You know, I was just talking to some of my friends, and and they were talking about it and and all the things that you do.

Speaker 2

You know, talking to a Chris Voss or Robert Irvine or Damon John, and, like, your name comes up.

Speaker 2

And and and it's it's the experience.

Speaker 2

Right?

Speaker 2

And and I think that's what you know more than anyone because, I'll just say it.

Speaker 2

This will be a Mick Hunt unplugged truth right here.

Speaker 2

I think there are a lot of property owners.

Speaker 2

There are a lot of folks that don't look at the actual experience of the individual.

Speaker 2

They say they do, but they don't really put themselves in those shoes.

Speaker 2

And I think you nailed that because every aspect of all the things that you do, it's like you're looking at it from the true experience standpoint.

Speaker 2

And I think that's what makes you one of the most successful people in the world, bro.

Speaker 0

I think that comes with by being in our venue you know, by having dinner with friends in my venues.

Speaker 0

Right?

Speaker 0

So I catch a lot of things.

Speaker 0

I'm just like, this music's too loud to even enjoy this experience, or I'm just hearing everyone's conversation.

Speaker 0

It's just not enough.

Speaker 0

It just depends on like how the food comes, what's the sequence of service, how's the team interacting with each other, is the lighting going down at the right moment, is it going up to it, the whole thing, right?

Speaker 0

So you want to know all these touching points and I think about the details more than anything.

Speaker 0

So it's all about the details.

Speaker 2

Yes, sir.

Speaker 2

Yes, sir.

Speaker 2

Now we're gonna go to the book.

Speaker 2

And I'm gonna give you another Unplugged Truth, and I'm gonna ask you for one.

Speaker 2

So when I first saw the book, I was grabbed by the title, Take It Personal.

Speaker 2

And here's why.

Speaker 2

I'm a UNC Tar Heel.

Speaker 2

Right?

Speaker 2

Which means I love Michael Jordan.

Speaker 2

Means we all watched The Last Dance, and we saw all the memes of Jordan saying and I took that personally.

Speaker 2

Well, when you are wired the way that I'm gonna say I'm wired, that Michael Jordan's wired, the way that David's wired, you do take things personal.

Speaker 2

And that's kinda like the chip on our shoulder to to provide the best experience, to be the best business leaders that we can be, to be the best people in life that we could be.

Speaker 2

So now I wanna get it from you.

Speaker 2

Talk to me about when you decided that this was gonna be the title of the book and why you chose that title.

Speaker 0

Well, it's it's really something that I focus in with my team so much.

Speaker 0

Like, if I see a guest that I know that we take care of all the time doing their birthday party at another venue and not ours, and I'm like, or somebody I'm like, even like a team member, by the way, let alone, I've seen team members do a birthday somewhere else.

Speaker 0

And I'm like, are you crazy right now?

Speaker 0

Like, are you in Spain?

Speaker 0

Actually I get the guy.

Speaker 0

And like, listen, I think it's to my core.

Speaker 0

I look at the window at the restaurant next to poppy steak and see if my friends are in there.

Speaker 2

是的

Yeah.

Speaker 0

It's not my rest.

Speaker 0

You know, I talk about that in the book and I'm on it.

Speaker 0

I'll go like this in the window to the person.

Speaker 0

I'm like, if you could be next door, then you could be in my spot.

Speaker 0

And I think as your relationships build with people, they know how much you take it personal.

Speaker 0

I want them to have that second thought before they go somewhere else.

Speaker 0

At least be troubled with it.

Speaker 0

At least not enjoy their meal completely because they know I'm I'm upset.

Speaker 2

没错。

Right.

Speaker 2

没错。

Right.

Speaker 2

You know, one of my favorite chapters in the book is chapter two, and it's building an ecosystem.

Speaker 2

And and, you know, I had this conversation with all of my people about, you know, your circle and and that ecosystem that you call it.

Speaker 2

And and we had a team meeting on Monday where we dissected chapter two.

Speaker 2

And I I could talk about it all day long, but we have the author here.

Speaker 2

So I'd love for you to talk to us about the importance of building an ecosystem and the foundational structure of building that ecosystem.

Speaker 0

So, I mean, it's it's a it's a great thing.

Speaker 0

I think it it stems from relationships.

Speaker 0

I think it stems for how do you curate that how do you curate that experience for people when they come to your city, when they come to your home, when they come to whatever.

Speaker 2

对。

Yeah.

Speaker 0

What did let me ask you a question.

Speaker 0

What did your team get out of it?

Speaker 2

What they got was everyone that we interact with, we control an experience because they're gonna have one either way it goes.

Speaker 2

So are you gonna be the one that controls it, or are you gonna let someone else decide the experience that they're gonna have?

Speaker 2

And so for us and our ecosystem and understanding, it was what do we all do that's uniquely the thing that no one else can do?

Speaker 2

Like, what is it that we do individually, right, that no one else can do?

Speaker 2

And then when we put that together as a team, what makes us the most ineffable team that exists in what we do?

Speaker 2

And that's what everyone got at so what everyone started understanding was to create this ecosystem, it starts with you and understanding that unique talent or gift that you have that no one else can do.

Speaker 2

Because at the end of the day, everyone's gonna have an experience.

Speaker 2

It's just more of, did you control that experience, or did you leave it up for someone else to have without your influence?

Speaker 0

I mean, for us, we also think it kind of takes the thought process out of the guest to have to be concerned about it as well.

Speaker 0

Right?

Speaker 0

Because, you know, if we're programming your night for you and we say, this is what we think the best night of your life could be, And you have trust with us that that earns trust too.

Speaker 0

And it comes over time.

Speaker 0

Right?

Speaker 0

So, and that's why it's good.

Speaker 0

And also even if it's not one of my places, but it's something that I think they should go see or do or something like that.

Speaker 0

You also want to plant this because if you're just, if it's just all your, like I might send them to an experience at Superblue, which is this museum that has installation, not mine, but you want them to go experience other things.

Speaker 0

You don't want it to just be a sales job of just your spots too.

Speaker 0

You want to say, Hey, listen, I really want to curate the best day and night for you ever.

Speaker 2

I love that, brother.

Speaker 2

I love that.

Speaker 2

And I know you don't say this, and I'm gonna step away from the book for a moment just because you're someone who I've followed forever.

Speaker 2

And and it kinda does coincide with the book a little bit, but I like hot takes.

Speaker 2

Right?

Speaker 2

I'm just gonna say this.

Speaker 2

There's not a lot of people that can do what you do.

Speaker 2

Right?

Speaker 2

When I think of DG and I talk about again, John talks about you, Chris Voss talks about you, Robert Irvine talks about you.

Speaker 2

We go to the book, you've got Tom Brady, Serena Williams.

Speaker 2

Oh, by the way, Kim Kardashian does the forwarded intro.

Speaker 2

What makes DG uniquely different from people in your category?

Speaker 0

I think because they don't see me as just a restaurateur or just a nightclub owner.

Speaker 0

They see me as some as an entrepreneurial that's going to help them with their lives.

Speaker 0

I think they all know over time, am very protective over people.

Speaker 0

That's one and I send them my deal flow.

Speaker 0

I go, Hey, I look at this new brand.

Speaker 0

I think I negotiated a great deal.

Speaker 0

Why don't you come in with me on the same thing that I've negotiated?

Speaker 0

I'm pretty good at it now.

Speaker 0

And I think it comes over time.

Speaker 0

I also think I try to add value for those.

Speaker 0

Anybody that you talk to, they'll say, I just try to add value.

Speaker 0

And, you know, I talk about a lot in the book is just being a great connector and don't being a gatekeeper.

Speaker 0

I hate these gatekeeper people.

Speaker 2

Same, man.

Speaker 0

Right?

Speaker 0

So, oh, someone's like, oh, do you know that person?

Speaker 0

And if they think there's any kind of monetary situation that they that you're gonna benefit from their connection, they want a piece of it.

Speaker 2

没错。

Yeah.

Speaker 0

That's just such the wrong way to look at things.

Speaker 0

And it pays off 10 times more than whatever that little thing is that you're trying to make that 10% of.

Speaker 0

And I talk about, oh, when they're like, make sure you CC me on all conversations with them.

Speaker 0

I'm like, wants, I don't even, I barely have time to read all my emails.

Speaker 0

You want I'm gonna tell you to go CC me on a conversation with somebody because there might be some monetary exchange between two people creating who wants to live like that?

Speaker 2

Dude, I love that.

Speaker 2

And when I read the book, another gatekeeper type that came to mind is the friend that doesn't want you to become closer to that celebrity or influencer than they are.

Speaker 2

Right?

Speaker 2

It's like, I'm tight with DG, but I don't want you to be tight, though.

Speaker 2

And it's like, bro, like, chill out, man.

Speaker 2

Like, like, what is this about?

Speaker 2

But that person, I think, is worse than the financial game gatekeeper.

Speaker 0

By the way, you're not wrong.

Speaker 0

Like, I I listen.

Speaker 0

I'm friends with some some very, like, say, wealthy people that have a lot of amazing toys.

Speaker 0

Yeah.

Speaker 0

Yachts, this, that, the I've definitely introduced some big celebrities to some great billionaires, let's say, and they've gone and gone on their boat separately than me.

Speaker 0

And I'm like, people are like, wow, so and so's on that yacht and you're not there.

Speaker 0

I go, great.

Speaker 2

没错。

Right.

Speaker 2

I mean, hey.

Speaker 0

Like Right.

Speaker 0

Okay.

Speaker 0

Like, I'm not a I'm not the celebrity handler.

Speaker 0

Like like, I'm so happy they were friends if they meet great.

Speaker 0

And by the way, the person that they're on the boat with is an amazing person.

Speaker 0

They should be hanging out with them.

Speaker 0

It's great.

Speaker 1

对。

Right.

Speaker 2

没错。

Right.

Speaker 2

是的。

Yeah.

Speaker 2

To me, that is the worst person that makes

Speaker 0

It's weird how people's perspective is so focused on that.

Speaker 0

对。

Right.

Speaker 0

And like, oh, you're you're you're not part of that.

Speaker 0

I'm like, I'm part of it just fine.

Speaker 0

Like, it's okay.

Speaker 0

是的。

Yeah.

Speaker 0

I might miss a boat trip.

Speaker 0

I might miss a vacation.

Speaker 0

It's it's okay.

Speaker 2

对。

Yeah.

Speaker 2

And and oh, by the way

Speaker 0

dinner too.

Speaker 0

Like, okay.

Speaker 0

There might be a dinner and I'm not okay.

Speaker 2

是的。

Yeah.

Speaker 2

所以

So

Speaker 0

some people wanna have their own relationships, and that's even more powerful.

Speaker 2

不对。

No.

Speaker 2

Absolutely.

Speaker 2

And and I would say, I I respect you in this way because you and I are a lot alike.

Speaker 2

Like, I don't need to take a picture with someone to show that I'm cool or tight.

Speaker 2

Like, I actually never do.

Speaker 2

Like, you've never seen me take a a selfie with, like, my my true inner circle of, like, high net worth friends.

Speaker 0

Oh, no.

Speaker 0

没有。

No.

Speaker 0

I love I love love picturing.

Speaker 0

I'm joking.

Speaker 0

I love content.

Speaker 0

Don't fool yourself, my man.

Speaker 2

No.

Speaker 2

You love content, but you're doing it in a different way, though.

Speaker 2

Like, you're you're not proving you don't do content to say, oh, look.

Speaker 2

I'm hanging out with Warren Buffett.

Speaker 0

No.

Speaker 0

Everyone knows everything.

Speaker 0

Everyone talks.

Speaker 0

Like, here's the things.

Speaker 0

I let them do the engagement.

Speaker 0

There's many times with some of the biggest and there's no bill.

Speaker 0

Okay.

Speaker 0

好的。

Okay.

Speaker 0

是的。

Yeah.

Speaker 0

Like, everyone's so thirsty to get that one picture, that one thing.

Speaker 0

Like, there there's gonna be another time, my man.

Speaker 0

Like, it's okay.

Speaker 0

不行。

No.

Speaker 2

I would rather

Speaker 0

Are you not asking?

Speaker 0

And like, I have I have friends of mine that, you know, they're Dave, you went to dinner with so and so and the nobody knows to be, okay.

Speaker 0

But you know what?

Speaker 0

There'll be 50 other times that I'm going have dinner with this person and you know, okay, maybe one time, who cares?

Speaker 2

Yeah, But

Speaker 0

people And then by the way, you sit so much more powerful with that celebrity or that person by not doing that then then doing it.

Speaker 0

Like, puts you it elevates you on a different level than just that what, know, hey.

Speaker 0

Do you mind?

Speaker 0

No.

Speaker 0

No.

Speaker 0

But then when it comes time that you need some help, hey, Kim, can you do a forward for me after twenty something years?

Speaker 0

Do you mind?

Speaker 0

No.

Speaker 0

No problem.

Speaker 2

That's it, man.

Speaker 2

Like and I would say, I would rather pick David's mind, pick his brain, ask him a really good question than to take a selfie to prove that I was hanging out with him.

Speaker 2

Right?

Speaker 2

Like, for me, that's that's life.

Speaker 2

Now do I have pictures with celebrities and influencers?

Speaker 2

是的。

Yes.

Speaker 2

But usually someone else took them.

Speaker 2

Right?

Speaker 2

But you don't see me grabbing my phone, say, hanging out with David today.

Speaker 2

Like, I don't need that.

Speaker 2

I'd rather take those two seconds and ask you a question.

Speaker 0

And listen.

Speaker 0

Everyone's different.

Speaker 0

Some people wanna do content with you.

Speaker 0

Like, Dave, please, let's do something fun.

Speaker 0

Let's do a let's do something great.

Speaker 0

Let's show great.

Speaker 0

Happy to.

Speaker 0

By the way, awesome.

Speaker 0

And some people just don't, and it it's okay.

Speaker 2

对。

Yep.

Speaker 2

对。

Yep.

Speaker 2

So I wanna go to a different part now.

Speaker 2

I call it the room.

Speaker 2

And I'm actually in a conversation right now on this podcast, looking him in the eye, of the guy that creates the best experiences ever, that creates the rooms.

Speaker 2

Because to me and and in the book, David, you talk about relationships all through it and how important they are, how to build them, how to maintain them, how to invest in them.

Speaker 2

And the best relationships I've ever had, the best advice I've ever gotten was because I was in a room.

Speaker 2

Right?

Speaker 2

I was in a moment.

Speaker 2

I was in a place.

Speaker 2

We were having a conversation.

Speaker 2

That experience, the ambiance was right.

Speaker 2

And I can remember those moments like they were yesterday.

Speaker 2

I'd love for you to talk about, was there a room for you?

Speaker 2

Was there a moment for you when you realized relationships matter the most?

Speaker 2

Or was there a specific conversation that you can remember because you were in the right room at the right time?

Speaker 0

No, I think I've had the right mentors around me as well that talk about that so much.

Speaker 0

And I think, because I was an only I really take relationships so, I'm so delicate with it.

Speaker 0

And I knew by seeing people that ruin relationships or played the short game and didn't go and just like wanted to capitalize on the press for that one second, they put people in bad situations or and I'm just looking at people like, why would you do that?

Speaker 0

Why do you like, it's to me, I've had many moments in my life where I could have gone left or right and I decided to just say, let's just keep going forward.

Speaker 2

There you go.

Speaker 0

And it's something that a lot of people only see tomorrow.

Speaker 0

They only see today and they don't see tomorrow.

Speaker 0

And it bothers me because like, just to give you a thing, I'm talking to a DJ about re upping his contract at Live.

Speaker 0

And, you know, in Vegas, they signed you to two, three year deals.

Speaker 0

And another casino's offering more money than I am because it's just a bigger casino.

Speaker 0

It's a bigger this, it's a bigger this.

Speaker 0

And the manager saying to me, Hey, I know everything you've done with this DJ, with this relationship, you've done stuff that we could never imagine, but this is generational wealth for this DJ.

Speaker 0

If he takes this deal, Dave.

Speaker 0

And I'm like, are you fucking insane to say to me generational wealth?

Speaker 0

Like that's what you think of your client that this much money, which is, it's a good amount of money, but it's not

Speaker 2

generational wealth.

Speaker 0

Like what you think generational wealth is.

Speaker 0

And what I think generational wealth is might be two different things.

Speaker 2

没错。

Right.

Speaker 0

I think this, I think if your guy is with me, he's gonna have real generational wealth and not what the short little game is.

Speaker 0

And stop talking about your guy like that.

Speaker 0

Like, just say this might be a bigger amount, and it means this amount is enough money for us to think about doing something else.

Speaker 0

But don't bring up the terminology generational wealth, because I think it downplays your guy and it makes me think you don't really know your guy well enough or don't have enough or don't think he has the ability that I think he has.

Speaker 0

是的。

Yeah.

Speaker 0

And that bothered me a lot.

Speaker 0

And when I talked to the DJ, I said, team just told me about generational wealth.

Speaker 0

And I'm like, I'm sorry, my man.

Speaker 0

I think, I think if I hear that term again, discussing you, I'm going to lose my mind.

Speaker 0

And he was like, same thing, David.

Speaker 0

They keep saying this to me.

Speaker 0

And I'm like, I'm just getting stuck.

Speaker 0

Like, we're just getting started.

Speaker 0

Like, there's not a listen.

Speaker 0

I understand that entertainment and stuff like that might be considered like a quarterback or a sports athlete, where you only have this certain amount of time.

Speaker 0

I get it because at the end of the day, youth really, you know, controls what's hot next and blah, blah, blah.

Speaker 2

是的。

Yeah.

Speaker 2

I love it, dude.

Speaker 0

It's just like to me, it's like stop using I I I hate when people position themselves like that.

Speaker 2

对。

Yeah.

Speaker 2

And that's Yeah.

Speaker 2

And and that kinda goes into something in one of the chapters, and I have it highlighted here, chapter eight, which is something that, again, my team and I also discuss, which is your name is everything.

Speaker 2

And you you break down the importance of intellectual property and how to do that.

Speaker 2

And I actually just yesterday had a conversation with my IP attorney on just some things because most people don't understand, one, yes, your name, but there's a lot of things that you do.

Speaker 2

There's a lot of frameworks that you have that you should protect and that you need to think about building it.

Speaker 2

So I'd love for you to talk about the importance of building, creating IP and and breaking down chapter.

Speaker 0

What we're talking about is intellectual property.

Speaker 0

And and just to clear so your audience knows, when we say name, we don't mean just David Grutman.

Speaker 0

We we're talking about, let's say Liv, Gecko, come on, all names.

Speaker 0

Right?

Speaker 0

没错。

Right.

Speaker 0

Or it could be David Grutman too.

Speaker 0

没错。

Right.

Speaker 0

That being said, it's the one thing they don't really talk about with you in college, how important it is and what it means to own an IP.

Speaker 0

And as I built a restaurant for the first time, as I thought a single unit, which I've been able to grow to three and hopefully more venues, that the IP is what the most important thing is.

Speaker 0

I also won't do a deal with somebody if I don't own the IP as part of it, because, you know, I talk about in their Louis Vuitton, you know, they wanted me to do an LV lover's bar, but I don't have any equity in LV.

Speaker 0

Would they give me equity in LV lovers bar?

Speaker 0

不会。

No.

Speaker 0

And they're like, you're crazy.

Speaker 0

It's going to make your life so cool.

Speaker 0

I'm like, I'm as cool as I'm going to be.

Speaker 0

Let me own my brands.

Speaker 0

And if I'm going to be cool, if I'm going to be the one that's going to make it cool, then I need to share in that IP.

Speaker 0

And you have to be very careful who you let into your IP.

Speaker 0

Certain times it should just be your IP.

Speaker 0

And certain times, if you have a partner that's going to bring as much value as you are helping build it from the ground up, then should they share in the IP or not?

Speaker 0

And I think some people don't care about IP developers, I think that are building high rises.

Speaker 0

If they can put a brand on their building, and they can charge a little bit more per square foot, they don't care what that IP is.

Speaker 0

But I think they're helping you build your IP, which is how you look at deals and saying, how do I keep building that IP through other people's marketing assets?

Speaker 2

Amen.

Speaker 2

Which leads to the natural follow-up of that, which is the exit.

Speaker 2

Right?

Speaker 2

And and having an exit strategy.

Speaker 2

I learned from Damon John personally, Mick, don't build a business without thinking about it and building it as if you were going to sell it or exit from it.

Speaker 2

Even if you never plan to, that needs to be the mindset of building it because it's gonna help you actually make better decisions.

Speaker 2

然后我会去读《Take It Personal》。

And then I go read Take It Personal.

Speaker 2

And what is David Grutman saying?

Speaker 2

Pretty much the same damn thing.

Speaker 2

Right?

Speaker 2

Like, you've gotta prepare.

Speaker 2

Even if you're not going to exit, you've gotta build as if you are because it does help you make better decisions.

Speaker 2

And then you actually give some really cool advice just on exit strategies in general.

Speaker 2

So talk to us a little bit about that, brother.

Speaker 0

You should always build a company that that's why IP is very important, that you're not going to have a mess if you do exit.

Speaker 0

You're trying to tie up all these people that are part of your IP.

Speaker 0

You want to try to get it clean.

Speaker 0

I think as you do these deals with partners that they know that, you know, they have a drag along with you or tag along where they could come along for the ride as well.

Speaker 0

But I also think, listen, you should build a business that feels like a public company, that a public company could always buy, or when you go to sell it, if you're not buttoned up, which that's how business should be buttoned up enough to be in a public company, That it's not mom and pop time anymore.

Speaker 0

Like these are your businesses, right?

Speaker 0

You have to build it that if somebody's going to exit now, let's say you said you're never going to exit that business and maybe you don't, but maybe you pass it on to the next generation, which in that next generation have the ability to be able to just step in there and run your business.

Speaker 0

I don't think a business that's not run properly or set up properly for an exit or that is probably not running well anyway.

Speaker 0

I think it's all like, listen, you need to, you need everything firing.

Speaker 0

And I think what that's, what's desirable to people that even want look at your business.

Speaker 0

It a mom and pop shop?

Speaker 0

And if it's a mom and pop shop, is it at least set up accordingly?

Speaker 0

But the X it's not about for me, the money on that one particular venue.

Speaker 0

It's about the eight times, 10 times, 12 times multiple on those businesses as you build.

Speaker 2

没错。

Absolutely.

Speaker 0

没错。

Absolutely.

Speaker 0

That's how you gain real wealth.

Speaker 0

That's why I always tell people, try to find deals where you have equity and not just a fee.

Speaker 2

That's it.

Speaker 2

没错。

That's it.

Speaker 2

Dave, man, I know how busy you are, and I'm I'm honored that you would spend a few

Speaker 0

minutes Okay.

Speaker 0

Here's an important thing.

Speaker 0

Thank you for having me.

Speaker 2

No, man.

Speaker 2

Like, you mean the world to me.

Speaker 2

So gotta get you out of here with my Unplugged Five, so my Rapid Fire Five.

Speaker 2

But before I do that, I'm gonna say this again.

Speaker 2

This is the book.

Speaker 2

Zoom in.

Speaker 2

Take it personally.

Speaker 0

是的。

Yes.

Speaker 2

Go get this book.

Speaker 2

I don't care who you are.

Speaker 2

Don't I care what you do.

Speaker 2

I was selling Dave offline.

Speaker 2

Like, my oldest son, who's a football coach, loves this book and has given this book to his players because there's a lot of life in here, The relationship building.

Speaker 2

Doesn't matter what you do.

Speaker 2

Right?

Speaker 2

Like, the coaching, the even though you can't exit a coaching business, right, but you can build a team as if those players are moving on.

Speaker 2

Right?

Speaker 2

Like, because that's the truth of what happens.

Speaker 2

So are you building a culture?

Speaker 2

Are you putting in principles and values in what you do?

Speaker 2

So this book is that important, bro.

Speaker 0

And adding value to those athletes.

Speaker 0

Right?

Speaker 0

给予。

Giving.

Speaker 0

Like, that's it.

Speaker 0

Right?

Speaker 0

You're adding value to people's lives.

Speaker 0

That's a coupon that's gonna come back.

Speaker 2

没错。

Exactly.

Speaker 2

Exactly.

Speaker 2

So this Unplugged Five.

Speaker 2

Ready?

Speaker 2

First question.

Speaker 2

How does a normal guy like me throw a party at Liv?

Speaker 2

Who do I need to know?

Speaker 2

Who do I need to know to make that happen?

Speaker 0

Well, it just depends on how big of a party we're throwing here.

Speaker 0

Are we talking about a couple tables, or are we talking about renting the whole venue?

Speaker 2

Let let's just say a few tables.

Speaker 2

然后

And then

Speaker 0

Oh, listen.

Speaker 0

We have great VIP hosts at the front.

Speaker 0

We have a great program for that.

Speaker 0

We're happy to help you.

Speaker 0

And you could also even go online and pick your particular tables now and buy your particular tables.

Speaker 2

That's what I wanted to hear.

Speaker 2

Go online.

Speaker 2

That that link will actually be in the in the description.

Speaker 0

Oh, I like that.

Speaker 2

Question number two.

Speaker 2

How are you using AI in your businesses today?

Speaker 0

比如在Poppy's Day、Costa Dona、Komodo、Gekko这些地方。

So now we have AI talking when you when you go to ticketing or you DM or Instagram, it's AI talking to you and we're not you know, so it's telling you, you know tables prices minimums and it's also saying can I please book that dinner reservation for you before live at Poppy's Day Costa Dona Komodo, Gekko, any of that stuff and it's it's really helping people curate their own night via AI

Speaker 2

Yeah?

Speaker 2

对。

Yeah.

Speaker 0

Within my ecosystem.

Speaker 2

Yes, sir.

Speaker 2

Yes, sir.

Speaker 2

Very cool.

Speaker 2

Question three.

Speaker 2

The the coolest party that you've thrown, what would that cool party be?

Speaker 2

I know you got some stories, so it's gonna be hard to pick out one, but give me one that's coming to mind now.

Speaker 0

I think when the Miami Heat won the the championship.

Speaker 0

I think that was probably the coolest thing, and they brought the trophy to live.

Speaker 2

There it

Speaker 0

is.

Speaker 0

And then the next year, again.

Speaker 2

There it is.

Speaker 2

What's the one thing you're most proud of to date?

Speaker 0

You know, my my kids and my loving relationship with my wife.

Speaker 0

My family is really special, and I I love that the world sees how special my family is.

Speaker 2

Yes, sir.

Speaker 2

Yes, sir.

Speaker 2

Last question.

Speaker 2

When the book of David Grutman is being written, what's one or two words that you want to define you in that book?

Speaker 0

Well, first, it needs to say that I'm a New York Times bestseller.

Speaker 0

Let's let's just start there.

Speaker 0

不行。

No.

Speaker 0

But I added value.

Speaker 2

Added value.

Speaker 0

I added value.

Speaker 0

是的。

Yes,

Speaker 2

先生。

sir.

Speaker 2

Ladies and gentlemen, this is David Grutman.

Speaker 2

I I would say it's as simple as this.

Speaker 2

Just go Google them.

Speaker 2

Right?

Speaker 2

Follow them.

Speaker 2

Google them.

Speaker 2

去

Get

Speaker 0

the book.

Speaker 0

Buy the book.

Speaker 2

Get the book.

Speaker 2

And here's here's how cool this book is for me.

Speaker 2

David, I'm gonna do this.

Speaker 2

I'm gonna buy 20 copies of the book.

Speaker 2

Wow.

Speaker 2

And the first 20 people on Instagram that message me, Take It Personal.

Speaker 2

I'm gonna give

Speaker 0

you a copy of the book because it's gonna change your life.

Speaker 0

Then let me know how you like the book.

Speaker 0

That's what I care about.

Speaker 2

There it is.

Speaker 2

And that was gonna be the follow-up.

Speaker 2

So if you're one of the 20 that get the book, here's what I need you to do.

Speaker 2

Take a picture of yourself with the book and highlight something that was really cool, a lesson that you learned or something you're gonna implement or change, and then tag me and David in the social post There so we know you like

Speaker 0

it is.

Speaker 2

David, I appreciate you, brother.

Speaker 0

Thank you so much.

Speaker 0

I appreciate you.

Speaker 0

Take care, guys.

Speaker 2

You got it.

Speaker 2

再见。

Bye.
