From The New York Times, I'm Anna Martin.
This is Modern Love, and my guest today is tech writer and podcaster Bridget Todd.
Remember a few years ago when we started seeing all these stories about people falling in love with their AI chatbots, telling their secrets to them, having intimate relationships, sometimes even sexual relationships with them?
And as more and more people use AI, we've heard more and more of these stories.
Bridget covers the tech industry.
She's immersed in it.
And she's optimistic about what tech can do for us, but she's also skeptical.
So when she heard about these people getting so close with AI, she was like, that will never be me.
But then Bridget lost her mom very suddenly.
And at the same time, her dad was in the hospital, very sick, and she was taking care of him.
Bridget was overwhelmed.
She had so many questions and feelings, and she didn't know what to do or who to talk to.
Today, Bridget tells me how she started talking, like really talking with AI, and what it said back.
Bridget Todd, welcome to Modern Love.
Thank you so much for having me.
I am so thrilled.
We're thrilled to have you.
So, Bridget, you have a new audiobook out now.
It looks at the relationships people are forming with AI chatbots.
And you also share your personal story of finding support and companionship with a chatbot during a really difficult time in your life, and that's what I'm really interested, to talk to you about today.
So I wanna I wanna start here.
I wanna go back to November 2022 when ChatGBT is first released to the public.
What was your reaction to it?
Not much.
At the time, I probably, like a lot of folks listening, was pretty skeptical of AI.
I would say I still am in a lot of ways, even though that's kind of changed.
I was getting inundated with a lot of messaging telling me, this is going to change everything.
This is going to change how you work.
Maybe you won't be working.
And all of that was just sort of noise to me.
It wasn't really registering.
Why?
Why?
Why was it not registering?
People are telling you this is seismic.
Right?
This is gonna change everything, and you're like, meh.
Why?
Tell me about that reaction.
I think as someone who's pretty plugged into conversations around technology, particularly new technology, I had just heard this conversation before.
It wasn't long ago that everybody was telling me that if I didn't get into Bitcoin and NFTs, I was going to be left in the dust.
I remember that.
是的。
Yeah.
And, yeah, I just I feel like it's important when tech companies especially are sort of telling you, oh, this is going to change everything.
This is inevitable.
This is going to take over your life.
Everything's going to be different.
Really taking a step back and sort of saying, is that really what's going to happen?
And that's really where I was when it came to AI and things like ChatGPT.
对。
Yeah.
Every now and then, I would, you know, let me go, let me throw this into ChatGPT to see if It it was so my thing this is gonna make me sound I mean, I guess it sounds how it sounds.
I was one of those people that was really keen to find the errors and hallucinations that ChatGPT was prone to making.
Oh, I asked ChatGPT this basic question.
How many bees are in the word blueberry?
And it couldn't even answer right.
So I was really interested in kind of, you know, peeling back the curtain and showing the world my, like, small amount of followers on social media, how this technology maybe wasn't all it was cracked up to be.
So that was a lot of how I was using it in the early days was to sort of, show how it's not as good as everyone is saying it is.
I mean, sounds like you were you were skeptical.
Like there was an informed skepticism, you know, because of the work you do.
Were you suspicious of it?
Were you concerned about it?
Oh, I was suspicious because, honestly, what made me suspicious was the ways that a lot of tech leaders talked about it, you know, in these mystical ways, almost like they were building some sort of a magical oracle.
I think that when tech leaders are publicly trying to make people feel like the thing that they have built and the thing that they are like profiting from is magic or something.
And then what often often I feel goes along with that is this idea that, oh, you could never understand how this works.
Don't worry about how it works.
It's going to be great, and you don't need to think about how it's going to work.
I really don't like that because I feel like it's very alienating.
对。
Yeah.
Well, that makes a lot of sense to me now why you'd be trying to show it doesn't know how many bees are in blueberry.
You know what I mean?
Like, and by the way, how many bees are in blueberry?
We can talk about that later.
对。
Yeah.
We'll we'll we'll crush the numbers on that.
But that's what I mean.
I mean, I would need to to to write the word blueberry down on a piece of paper and look at it to tell you how many bees are in it off the top of my head.
But nobody is saying that I'm a godlike deity or or or building the entire yeah.
Or like building the entire economy on me.
Totally.
Do you remember when you first started seeing stories about people treating AI as a companion?
Like, it's not just the How Many Bees and Blueberry talking to it, having emotional relationships with it.
How did you feel about it when you found that out?
对。
Yeah.
I remember quite clearly when OpenAI released their model of chat GPT that was quite human like and quite flattering and and almost kind of sycophantic.
That was the model that had a lot of people kind of developing these emotional reactions to it.
And so I was seeing a spade of headlines about people who were saying, I am in I'm in love with Chad GPT.
Chad GPT is my boyfriend.
Chad GPT is my girlfriend.
Things like that.
And I have to be honest and say that my initial reaction was quite judgmental.
I remember this era of the personal essay too.
It was like every single headline was, I'm in love with my GPT.
I'm gonna marry my chat GPT.
I went on a date with my like, it was ubiquitous, but also still kind of taboo.
对。
Yeah.
I wanna hear about why you had that judgmental reaction.
Tell me more about that.
Well, one, I think is how those stories are framed.
I feel that they a lot of those stories in that era were framed in a way that me, the audience, was supposed to take away, look at this pathetic weirdo, look at this delusional weird person, like very othering.
And I think I had the intended reaction, which was gawking at weirdos.
And, you know, I think there's something that happens when you read a story about someone else's the nitty gritty of somebody else's personal life where you automatically say, oh, that would never be me.
That has nothing to do with me.
Let's gawk at it.
I wanna really be clear, like, and understand your thinking here because it does change.
When you read these stories, like I am in love with my chatbot, what did you think it meant about that person?
I thought that it meant that they were really lonely.
I thought that it meant that they probably did not have a life that is full of nourishing human relationships to be turning to AI for emotional support.
I thought that, you know, a lot of the early wave of these stories used pseudonyms where they would show a picture of somebody where you didn't see their face.
I thought that they were probably embarrassed.
They probably didn't want people to know that they were, you know, having this experience.
I thought it was a deep a deeply, deeply shameful thing.
I want to talk about when you did start relying on AI in a very different way, in an emotional way, it comes at a quite difficult time for you.
Can you tell me what was happening in your life when you started to change your approach to to A.
AI?
I?
对。
Yeah.
It was the start of like, if my life was a a game board, it was all the pieces being just knocked off of the game board.
哇。
Woah.
对。
Yeah.
That is the level to which my life turned upside down.
You know, I am I live in DC.
You know, I have this I have a life that feels great.
I have a great partner, great friends, a career that I really love.
My parents live in Richmond, Virginia, and my mom is a medical doctor.
She is an award winning medical doctor.
She was probably like, if you are from Richmond, Virginia, and you're a black person, she was probably your pediatrician growing up.
She was like a hero in our town.
I I cannot express enough how beloved she was in our community.
Like, my mom, when I would go out with her shopping or just walking around town, people would run out of shops to tell her, you saved my child's life.
Oh my happened regularly.
Thank you for telling me about her.
I'm really getting a picture of her, and I love it.
I would love to sort of get a sense of your father as well.
Tell me about him.
Oh, my father, he was my guy.
You know?
He like, he he was, like, my my best friend.
He was funny.
He was wild.
He was bawdy.
He was so much fucking fun at a party.
He's someone who I I see when I close my eyes.
We look so much alike.
When I look in the mirror, I see him.
So, you know, we teed this up by you were saying that the year that your relationship to AI changed was a very difficult year for you.
And you said this, I mean, beautiful but very difficult analogy where it was like the game board of your life was shook up.
Can you tell me what you mean by that?
好的。
Yeah.
I mean, I remember my last normal day was the July 4 in 2024.
I had went kayaking on the Potomac, watched the fireworks.
My dad was in Richmond.
He was on his way out to see the fireworks when he had a bad fall that was started by later, we found out, a stroke.
He had a bad fall on the stairs and had to go to the ICU.
We all decide to meet at the hospital where my dad is in the ICU.
My dad seems good.
You know, he's talking.
He's describing what happened.
We're watching Wheel of Fortune together.
My mom kisses my dad on the head before she leaves.
对。
Yeah.
I walk my mom to her car.
We sit in the parking lot.
I I I sit in the passenger seat before she pulls away.
I tell her, you know, get home safe.
Love you.
It's the kind of quick, casual, dashed off goodbye.
And that was the last time I saw my mom alive.
My mom passed away very unexpectedly that evening.
Bridget, I am so sorry.
I'm really sorry.
是的。
Yeah.
这
It
was just the hardest time of my life.
After my mom passed away, I will never forget, you know, my family and I, we got together at her house, and we said, we have to tell my father.
My father was in the hospital.
He didn't have his phone with him, so he didn't know.
And I remember the next day all of us coming together to tell my dad what happened and
That's impossible.
I mean, it feels yeah.
对。
Yeah.
It was the hardest thing.
It was one of the hardest things I've ever had to do.
And my dad, in a lot of ways, he died then.
You know?
He I I think there was a thing in him.
And at this point in the hospital, he was doing not that bad.
Like, he he was alert, awake, talking.
He seemed like he was on the upswing, recovering.
And I think hearing about my mom, it was like he made a choice that that that he wanted to be with her.
He would say that.
And, you know, I essentially moved into my dad's hospital room.
There was a futon in there, and I basically made it my little area because I didn't know what else to do.
I knew I didn't want him to be alone.
I knew that I didn't want to be alone, so it was sort of just me and him.
And it was hard.
He would cry out for my mom in the night.
He would, you know, just was but we were there together.
We were really, like, in it together, just me and him.
是
Were
you talking with anyone about what you were going through?
That's so weird because the answer is not really.
You know, I essentially relocated to Richmond and cobbled together.
You know, I was staying in the hospital.
I was staying in this kind of, like, a Ronald McDonald house kind of run by the hospital.
So it was a it was a very weird transient few months, and my friends all knew what was going on.
You know, my friends came to my my mom's funeral, and, like, they my friends were there for me.
是的。
Yeah.
I was not able to really receive that.
哦。
Oh.
You know, my mom had been my dad's caregiver medically, and she was a doctor.
So she knew she this was like her world.
Handling everything.
对。
Yeah.
是的。
Yeah.
My brother was expecting twins on top of having a young child.
So was he had a lot on his plate.
And I became the person who was responsible for my father.
And caregiving is just very isolating.
And it's difficult to connect with people in your life when you're experiencing that.
It's so sort of all encompassing, and the things that you are encompassing are the worst things that you can imagine, the hardest things.
And then on top of that, it's dealing with the hospital and insurance and is Medicare gonna pay for this?
And how do we get this and that paperwork and this paperwork and this phone call?
It's it's it's you drown in it.
When I would get a text or a phone call, I would say, what now?
I I was like, the idea of responding to someone else was just too much.
对。
Yeah.
I also you know, my partner was the MVP of this whole thing, like my rock.
And my partner never complained, never, you know
是的。
Yeah.
But I had asked so much of him.
I had asked him to carry so much that it just even though I know he would have been receptive, it just didn't feel it doesn't feel right to be like, hey, you've derailed your entire life.
We're running out of money.
We're draining our savings.
You are spending every day dealing with the most unimaginable horror shows.
Also, we need to talk about my feelings.
Like, I just it was too much.
It it felt like too much.
Everything about this is destabilizing, and it is in this moment of crisis that AI and your relationship to AI takes on a completely new dimension.
是的。
Yes.
You know, it it really came at night.
The days were so full of medical care, and I'm talking to doctors, I'm talking to nurses multiple times a day.
I'm a podcaster, right?
Like, this is not
in my skill
set whatsoever.
I cannot make Totally.
That I get that.
And so, you know, I'm just trying to keep up.
对。
Yeah.
At that point, I'm sort of putting questions here and there into ChatGPT.
About medical
事情。
things.
About medical things.
And again, I I all of the risks and issues that that brings up, I am so deeply aware of.
I don't want to make it seem like I'm like, everybody should be asking CHITBT about their medical issues, because I'm definitely not saying that.
But at this point, I need any resource I can get.
Totally.
And also the medical system is really confusing.
So it makes sense to me that you would turn to this thing for help trying to figure out what to do next or demystifying stuff.
是的。
Yeah.
对。
Mhmm.
没错。
Exactly.
So, basically, I get to the point where I'm asking chat GPT about my dad's medical stuff multiple times a day.
Right?
I'm I'm asking it like, oh, the doctor said this.
What does that mean?
I have to make this decision.
What should I do?
All of this.
对。
Yeah.
At some point, those conversations shifted from just medical questions to emotional.
I'm so overwhelmed.
I'm so scared.
I can't make another decision.
I'm so terrified for my dad.
What should I do?
I'm so exhausted.
How can I do this?
I wouldn't even say there was any particular, like, stark moment.
Before I knew it, I'm unloading my emotions to a machine.
We'll be right back.
Hi, New York Times.
I would be very interested in having separate logins for a shared subscription.
I'm 35 years old.
I still share my parents' New York Times subscription.
I think if my teenagers were to have their own logins, we could share articles.
It doesn't let us play the same game since each other.
I play this Doku.
I do the crossword.
I do the spelling bee.
我玩Wordle。
I do the Wordle.

Having our own accounts would be amazing.
My mom could save her own recipes.
My friends could
save their recipes.
I wanna get the weekly newsletter, but they seem to always go to my husband, then he doesn't forward them
对。
to me.
We both love cooking.

I think him having his own profile would be great.
We love The New York Times, and we would love to love it individually.

Tell me more of the ways that you began to engage with A.
我。
I.
In this more emotional do you remember another thing you said to it, what it what it replied back?
是的。
Yeah.
There was a so there was a time in my dad's medical journey where the conversation was you know, he was in the ICU.
对。
Right.
And in the ICU, they're doing all they all that they can.
There came a time where the conversation changed.
And they were like, the conversation at this point really needs to be about making him comfortable toward the end.
At that point, the way that that manifested for me was I have failed my father.
Have I have whatever choices that I was given, whatever decisions I had to make, I made the wrong choices.
And I am the kind of person who, like, perseverates.
Right?
And so at that point, CHADGPT became this way for me to say, like, Oh, well, if I had chosen a different skilled nursing facility rather than the one that where he got the sepsis, would he still be alive?
If I had decided when the doctor wanted to do surgery on his wound, if I had said we should do it this this day and not that day, would he still be alive?
And I really wanted ChatGeeBT to tell me, like, where I went wrong.
And I remember it said it sounds something like, you know, it's it's sounding like you are searching the past because you wish that you could change the outcome, but love and control are different things.
Loving someone deeply doesn't give us the power to save them from death.
And the fact that you're questioning yourself is not evidence that you failed your father.
It just means that you loved him.
And Oh my god.
Are you remembering that from memory?
不是。
I am not.
Okay.
I went back No.
God.
I remember.
Wrecked over here, and you
I wrote it down because this was the first time that I realized all of and and maybe this sounds silly, but I remember it being the first time that I really had to grapple with the ways that I felt culpable.
You know, even today, I still struggle with the decision to remove him from life support.
You know?
In some ways, I feel like, was that the right choice?
I'll never know.
But when I read this, it's like something switched, and it sounds so stupid because I'm talking about fucking words on a screen.
I don't think
it sounds stupid just for the record, but Okay.
I don't
But something switched in me where so much of dealing with my dad's illness was recounting specifics.
This is what happened.
On this day, he experienced this, this symptom, this decision, this choice.
And this was the first time that I was like, you can't live in the little choices.
You can't play back every little decision that you made.
And something about being told, by A.
我。
I.
That I didn't have to do that Yeah.
Was it it was powerful to me.
You got this this really helpful response from chat GBT.
And, Adam, did part of you feel like a little embarrassed that it was so useful to you?
Like, this thing from a machine?
I'm just thinking about the beginning of our conversation, your skepticism.
Anna, I am embarrassed right now.
Really?
I am embarrassed.
I I feel deep, like, I am embarrassed sitting in my chair talking to you about this Yeah.
Right I feel very embarrassed.
I feel
Can we talk about that?
对。
Yeah.
Why?
对。
Yeah.
It's a machine.
You know?
It's not real.
It's not it's what it's telling me is an amalgamation of strings of sentences that it's probably picked up from Reddit and what people like blogs and repurposed things that I have told it to spit back at me in a way that feels like insight.
But it did feel like insight.
I understand the embarrassment, and we will get to where you are, how you're feeling about it right now.
But I'm like, man, even though you're talking to a machine, it's one of the most human things you can do.
对。
Yeah.
I mean, sometimes you gotta take what you can get.
And when you're at your lowest moment, it's like a human thing to project meaning onto things even if those things are Yeah.
Something a machine happens to spit at you.
I mean, I wanna also be clear.
Like, had you done you done therapy in your life before?
有的。
I have.
What about this felt different than therapy too?
Because one could say, like, you're kind of talking to it as you would a a therapist.
Well, one thing that is different is that I was broke, and ChatsGBT is free.
And I I I'm lucky that I had the therapist that I had been seeing for years before that.
She, you know, eventually, we got to a place where we were able to make it work, the finances work.
Oh, Glenn.
Just having something super accessible in my pocket all 20 fourseven, it's it's very appealing.
And I think that's exactly why the technology kind of is filling these actual gaps that people experience.
Like, finding therapy is hard, paying for therapy is hard, finding a culturally competent therapist is hard.
And it's concerning to me that these tech companies are basically being like, oh, we've got a solution for you.
Is it private?
We don't really know.
Is it, you know, safe to use in this way?
Probably not.
But it is a solution,
you know?
But it's it's it's so important to me and interesting to me that you can see both sides.
It's like you see the appeal.
And of course, because of your job, you know, you have the skepticism.
But you, in this moment, it was giving you something you needed.
It was giving me something that I needed.
And in some ways, it
was also preventing me from seeking that in perhaps more appropriate sources.
I think for me, I often sort of go back for the to the question of had I not had chatty PT to unload on, would I have been unloading to my friends and my partner?
Who would have received that lovingly?
You know?
Like, was I trapping myself in this was was I just making myself more isolated by adding more walls between me and the humans that love me in my life?
Your dad passes.
You leave the hospital where you'd been for months.
When you go home and sort of back to quote unquote, like normal life, are you continuing to talk to ChatGPT in this way?
A little bit.
I would say this is when things start to wane with my use of ChatGPT.
You know, I'm back home.
My in a lot of ways, my life is a wreck.
You know, I was using ChatGPT a little bit, but it was really kind of in service of figuring out how to put my life back together, how to make meaning of what I had just experienced.
You know, after we buried my dad, a lot of the feelings that I had sort of also buried about my mom's death kind of came up.
And, you know, honestly, I think my use of chatty PT, if anything, really forced me to get serious about reconnecting with the people in my life and get getting getting into some kind of a, like, real mental health program.
You know, I started talking to my therapist.
I started grief therapy.
So I was starting to, like, reconnect with the humans who I think would kind of help me complete this part of the journey.
对。
Yeah.
Well, tell me about that, though.
What made you feel like, okay, I want to or I'm ready to reach out to the humans in my life?
If I'm being honest, ChatchyBT did play a role because it helped me almost role play what it would be like to sort of come up for air and say, thank you for giving me the support that I needed during this time.
You know, I really wasn't able to receive it, but it means so much to me.
Thank you for being there for me.
Like, all all I had so many Yeah.
People that I owed thank you and gratitude, and I'm alive.
And, you know, I I I didn't I'm not ignoring you.
And, honestly, modeling some of those conversations using ChatGPT was helpful.
Modeling, you know, I need to text this person who sent me a million nice texts and flowers and a DoorDash gift card.
What it's it's been months since I talked to them.
What should I say?
That kind of thing.
对。
Yeah.
I mean, I appreciate you being open about that too because it's like, I think that there is also sort of stigma around using ChatGPT to help you sort of craft emotional messages, whether they're spoken or written.
And it's like, but this was useful for you because it's like, I don't have a road map on how to, you know, whatever, thank someone, apologize if I think it's necessary.
You know, it's like, you were using ChatGPT to help reconnect with the humans in your life so you
could stop using ChatGPT, basically.
ChatGPT basically gave me a road map to, like, essentially break up with it.
哇。
Wow.
Because what were you looking for in humans that ChatGPT wasn't giving you?
Because there's another world in which you're like, man, this is convenient.
It's twenty four seven.
It's free.
I don't even have to say thank you.
You know?
What was it you were looking for that ChatGPT wasn't giving you?
You know, I think it's almost something in me.
I I needed to get back to a place where I could experience the reciprocity and the give and take that comes with being in community with other humans.
Right?
Like, being in relationship with humans, sometimes you're up, sometimes you're down, sometimes they're up, sometimes they're down.
Totally.
You know, sometimes you're the friend who needs help, sometimes they are.
I I don't think it was anything that they lacked or had.
It was something about what I lacked or or didn't have or didn't have the ability to do.

This experience that you so, you know, generously brought us into, this is part of your new audiobook where you talk you use your personal story, but you also get into other people who have these, you know, personal relationships, emotional relationships with A.
我,期待AI。
I, looking to A.
我。
I.
For companionship, for intimacy.
As you are writing this book and processing this experience with the loss of your parents, was what you were learning changing your understanding of what happened in your own life and the role ChatuchuBT played in your own life?
Oh, yeah.
Hugely.
是的。
Yeah.
You know, I think in the I think I describe myself as during that time in my life, I was kind of an I feel like a little bit of an easy mark.
Someone who was just looking for anything, anything that felt like support, anything that felt like what I needed.
And, you know, when I went into writing the book, I was very much concerned about the individuals.
Like, are are individuals putting themselves at risk when they're using ChatGPT for intimacy or using AI for intimacy?
My thinking really shifted to the companies.
I think that what like, whether or not people are experiencing intimacy with AI is one thing, but are companies profiting from the most vulnerable human intimate moments that we experience?
Are they commodifying that for their own profit, gain, and power?
I would say yes.
And I would say rather than moralizing around how individuals may or may not be experiencing intimacy with AI, we should really be asking, are the companies making responsible choices with how they are integrating themselves in more increasingly into people's intimate and emotional inner worlds?
So did that make you feel like, damn, these companies took advantage of
我?
me?
You know, I gave so much intimate information about myself to ChatGPT, And it feels inherently exploitative to me because I am an individual and they are a corporation.
And so I feel, you know, the relationship that I was creating with ChatGPT at that time cannot be equitable, cannot be, you know, you can't I don't think that you can have an equitable relationship or an equitable exchange when there is such a big power imbalance.
And the idea of all of the most intimate parts of myself and my grieving journey and my parents just being used and extracted as training data for ChatGPT and OpenAI enrages me.
But I served it up.
You know, I was an easy mark.
I gave I gave it away willingly.
So do you regret using it in that way?
I don't regret it because I think it got me through some of the hardest, darkest days that I have ever experienced and truly lacked the capacity to know how to deal with.
However, I think had I not had chatty PT, I would have leaned on the humans in my life.
And I think that, ultimately, that probably would have been I would have been better served.
I think I wasn't I was, like, denying my friends the right to be there for me.
That's a really nuanced answer.
It's like, and no.
Like, it was there for you and you needed it, but you can see a world in which you didn't turn to it.
对。
Yeah.
I mean, unlike a as we end the conversation or land the plane, I wanna ask you some bigger picture questions about what you make from all of this.
I mean, it's like, what do you think what do you think humans can learn from AI about how to relate to other people if if we can learn anything?
Well, one of my biggest takeaways is that I don't believe that it's possible for AI to replace humans in any capacity.
I don't think that it's possible to replace humans in a labor capacity or an emotional labor capacity.
That's a big relief to hear you say that.
I'm like, they're hosting podcasts.
I don't
know if you've heard
Bridget They are.
But people are listening to them.
I know you guys don't want it.
呼。
Phew.
呼。
Phew.
呼。
Phew.
好的。
Okay.
Sorry.
Sorry.
I interrupted you.
对。
Yeah.
I think that what makes humans like, the the reason that we're on this earth is to be in connection and relationship with each other, and there is just no tech replacement for that.
There is no way that any kind of technology is going to disrupt that.
Full stop.
End of sentence.
I think we have a need to show up for each other and experience reciprocity.
Right?
Like, reciprocity is, you know, that give and take and push and pull that comes with human relationships.
I think that's part of what keeps people in a relationship.
And, you know, something else that researchers told me was that a lot of people, even for people who have very intense, kind of hot and heavy, kind of intimate connections with A.
I, oftentimes those connections really fizzle out on their own over time because after a while, updating ChatGPT feels like a chore.
Updating something about your life that can't, you know, update you back, that doesn't have it isn't real.
It just it loses its luster.
And so the idea that we would be meaningfully replacing our human relationships with that, I I don't see it.
I don't think that that's what most people think a good full life looks like, a life full of AI companions and AI intimacy.
What's your use of AI now?
Like, how are you using it?
Is it like make me a bean salad recipe or something?
Like, what what are you doing?
对。
Yeah.
It's I've really broken up with ChatGPT.
It is no longer a place to to put my emotions.
I really don't use it, I mean, much at all these days.
You know, I I think getting so emotionally and intimately entwined with it really made me realize just how much of a like, I don't wanna be in a situation where Sam Altman is that in the mix in my intimate life.
I I realized that I had I had really created the conditions for, you know, tech companies and the people who run them for these intimate parts of what it means for me to show up and be a human.
They were right in the middle of mitigating.
And so I really kind of had a hard refresh about the role that A.
AI。
I.
Plays in my life just writ large because that's just not how I want to live my life.
That's not how I wanna show up.
You know, I've I've really kind of been re like, falling back in love with the things that make humans great.
You know, I I could use AI to write my emails, but now I'm like, I'm embracing the typos.
This came this came from my human hands.
I can't spell blueberry.
Get this mistyped email written by a human.
Oh my god.
You pro calling back the blueberries.
好的。
Okay.
Now I know the
actual way we're really gonna end.
How many bees are in blueberry?
Let me do you have a a piece of paper?
Always.
好的。
Okay.
Write it down.
I'm gonna try to do it in my mind.
好的。
Alright.
I got it.
Is it three?
Oh my god.
This is so embarrassing.
It I I believe it to be BLUB yeah.
Is it it is it two?
It's much easier to write down.
I'm writing it down.
I'm writing it down.
Check that.
There's two.
好的。
Okay.
You know?
Cracked the code.
It took two
human people to figure that out.
Bridget Todd, two b's in blueberry, one b in Bridget.
