Speaker 3

Nvidia is joining forces with Wall Street in one of the most ambitious financing efforts ever attempted.

Speaker 3

On Monday, Nvidia announced memorandums of understanding with six major asset managers to secure $500,000,000,000 to fund the AI build out.

Speaker 3

The firms will lend that capital to Nvidia's customers, helping them build more data centers and buy more chips.

Speaker 3

BlackRock CEO Larry Fink called the project the beginning of, quote, the next future for financial engineering.

Speaker 3

And Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang said that AI chips have now become an investable asset class.

Speaker 3

However, Nvidia shares fell nearly 4% on the news, which was first reported by the Financial Times.

Speaker 3

Joining us to discuss this $500,000,000,000 financing arrangement, we are speaking with Jay Goldberg, analyst at Seaport Global Securities.

Speaker 3

Jay, thanks for joining us on the show.

Speaker 3

I've been looking at this $500,000,000,000 deal.

Speaker 3

I can't really tell what the deal actually is.

Speaker 3

There are a bunch of Wall Street banks and firms involved.

Speaker 3

It's a big number, but who's lending money to what?

Speaker 3

What is the financing package actually look like?

Speaker 3

What do we actually know about this?

Speaker 4

We don't know a lot.

Speaker 4

There's a lot of unknowns in here.

Speaker 4

They had a press release out yesterday, and the press release was almost entirely sort of hey, geographic quotes from all the participants about how great they all were.

Speaker 4

And then Jensen posted on Twitter today, gave a little bit more a little bit of granularity to a couple things, but we don't really know.

Speaker 4

And I think it's worth pointing out that in the press release, it actually is very clear that the agreements are not finalized.

Speaker 4

So they don't know what the details are yet.

Speaker 3

对。

Yeah.

Speaker 3

I mean, the the the term that jumped out to me was memorandum of understanding.

Speaker 3

I've heard that before in a deal with Iran that turned out to not be a deal and turned out to be a little bit of a disaster.

Speaker 3

Is is that the right comparison here?

Speaker 4

I I will say that Nvidia had a similar memory MOU with OpenAI, I don't know, six months ago, eight months ago, eons in AI time.

Speaker 4

And they were gonna invest a lot of money into OpenAI.

Speaker 4

And that deal, again, was press released before the contract was finalized, and it ended up not happening.

Speaker 4

Or it it radically shifted.

Speaker 4

It was a very different deal than the one that actually emerged six months afterwards.

Speaker 4

So in Nvidia is a company that cares a lot about its image and likes to keep people excited, and so they put out this press release.

Speaker 4

I I'm curious.

Speaker 4

I don't know why they did it now.

Speaker 4

I'm it's a that's a little odd.

Speaker 4

I don't know the timing.

Speaker 4

It it seems I don't I don't wanna say premature, but, like, there's just a lot of unknowns.

Speaker 3

What do you make of the stock reaction, the fact that Nvidia shares fell nearly 4%?

Speaker 3

I mean, if the idea was to inspire excitement and confidence, that's not what happened.

Speaker 3

What what is the the stock price telling us?

Speaker 3

What is Wall Street feeling on this deal?

Speaker 4

对。

Yeah.

Speaker 4

I think there is an undercurrent among some investors, not all, but certainly sizable chunk of investors who are worried about circular financing.

Speaker 4

And this certainly looks like it's a it's one piece of it's a it's a big piece of circular financing going on here because Nvidia is providing money to customers to buy Nvidia parts.

Speaker 4

I think that makes people uncomfortable.

Speaker 4

Not, you know, run for the hills, sell all our our Nvidia stock, but just like we're starting to see investors ask more questions about these kinds of deals and where where this is all headed.

Speaker 3

Jensen Huang wrote in the blog post sort of announcing the deal.

Speaker 3

He he addressed that question.

Speaker 3

He said, quote, is this circular financing?

Speaker 3

And then he continued on to say, this initiative is designed to address that concern.

Speaker 3

We are bringing independent long term institutional capital into the AI infrastructure market.

Speaker 3

The demand is real.

Speaker 3

It comes from Frontier AI labs, AI native startups, enterprises, cloud providers, and countries building AI services.

Speaker 3

The investors make independent financing decisions.

Speaker 3

I'm not sure he answers the question.

Speaker 3

He he certainly doesn't say the word no or the words it isn't circular financing.

Speaker 3

To what extent is this circular financing?

Speaker 3

What is circular about this, if at all?

Speaker 4

So I think there's a fine line between when companies provide financing for their customers, there's a fine line between enabling demand and creating demand.

Speaker 4

And Nvidia has been walking that line ever closer for a couple years now.

Speaker 4

And I think it's I think it's perfectly reasonable to provide some form of working capital loan.

Speaker 4

You you lend your you know, you you give them favorable terms.

Speaker 4

You let the the customer pay six months, nine months.

Speaker 4

That's a form of financing.

Speaker 4

Or you loan them a little bit of money.

Speaker 4

It's it's common practice in a lot of, you know, CapEx intensive industries.

Speaker 4

The the this one, I think, catches everyone's eye because it's it's so big.

Speaker 4

Right?

Speaker 4

$500,000,000,000, like you said.

Speaker 4

And it's just not entirely clear.

Speaker 4

If you are coming from the point of view that AI is a bubble and nobody can articulate what the ROI on that investment is or what even the use case is or the business model, You had a guest on earlier this week who was talking about that.

Speaker 4

If you come from that viewpoint, this looks very much like Nvidia's creating demand that might not exist otherwise.

Speaker 4

Now Nvidia's take is, no.

Speaker 4

不是。

No.

Speaker 4

We're not creating a demand.

Speaker 4

We see a you know, mispriced asset class, if you will.

Speaker 4

The lenders don't know how to lend to this.

Speaker 4

They're missing the point.

Speaker 4

They're missing the opportunity.

Speaker 4

They don't understand it.

Speaker 4

We will step in and help bridge that gap.

Speaker 4

I I I I get the logic, but we're it's such a big number, and there's so many questions around it.

Speaker 4

I it's it's it's hard to see this as something that's not Nvidia giving money to customers so they can buy from Nvidia, left hand paying the right hand.

Speaker 3

Is that the biggest risk for the company right now?

Speaker 3

Like, is that the main problem?

Speaker 3

And and if so, is that why Jensen Huang is specifically calling it out in his blog post?

Speaker 4

I I don't know why he's doing what doing addressing it in that way.

Speaker 4

I think he is he's very cognizant of what the street says about him and what the sort of what the zeitgeist on the on the on the street is.

Speaker 4

So I I think he wanted to address that.

Speaker 4

But I do think there is a bigger concern here, which is as as complicated as this is, and you wanna call it, you know, financial engineering or, you know, a whole new asset class, ultimately, it's debt.

Speaker 4

Right?

Speaker 4

And lenders lenders don't care about fancy technology.

Speaker 4

They don't care about AI.

Speaker 4

They care about when they're gonna get paid back.

Speaker 4

And ultimately, who's responsible in the event of nonpayment?

Speaker 4

And so looking through all this, we don't know.

Speaker 4

But my strong suspicion is that Nvidia is backstopping, providing some form of guarantee, not for the whole 500,000,000,000, but some some portion of it.

Speaker 4

There's talk in his blog post about a 25% coverage of certain things, sort of paying for the depreciation risk, paying down what whatever the exact mechanism.

Speaker 4

We don't know.

Speaker 4

But Nvidia is providing some form of guarantee ultimately that is giving the lenders comfort enough that they can lend at a reasonable interest rate.

Speaker 4

Right?

Speaker 4

Because because imagine the counterfactual.

Speaker 4

If Nvidia weren't involved in this, what would happen?

Speaker 4

These deals wouldn't get done.

Speaker 4

Right?

Speaker 4

Because the the interest rates would be too pressed too high.

Speaker 4

What what that also boils down to is some of this is ultimately a debt a form of debt for Nvidia.

Speaker 4

And I I think debt is very procyclical.

Speaker 4

Right?

Speaker 4

When times are good, like they are now, everybody wants AI, so much demand, this is gonna amp that up considerably.

Speaker 4

The problem is when the cycle turns and the cycle always turns, this kind of thing will amplify the pain on the downside.

Speaker 4

Right?

Speaker 4

Because imagine what happens some point in the future when the hyperscalers have run out of balance sheet and don't wanna buy anymore AI or can't afford to buy anymore NVIDIA GPUs.

Speaker 4

AI demand gets saturated.

Speaker 4

Just at that moment is when these obligations are gonna come due, and all the Neo Clouds who have borrowed money from this platform are gonna suddenly see unused capacity, and they're gonna put that back to Nvidia.

Speaker 4

But but at the same time, Nvidia's own sort of core business, sales will be declining or margins will be declining.

Speaker 4

They'll you know, earnings will trend downwards.

Speaker 4

And that's gonna be it makes it much more painful on the on the backside of this.

Speaker 4

That's that's the the big sort of fear.

Speaker 3

It is debt.

Speaker 3

Right?

Speaker 3

That $500,000,000,000.

Speaker 3

It's I assume it's debt.

Speaker 3

You say it's seems like it's mostly debt.

Speaker 3

That's what it is.

Speaker 3

Right?

Speaker 3

It's just $500,000,000,000 in debt?

Speaker 4

对。

Yeah.

Speaker 4

I I yeah.

Speaker 4

We don't we don't know that.

Speaker 4

所以我

So I'm

Speaker 3

我我

I'm I'm

Speaker 4

hedging a little bit, but but, it's debt.

Speaker 4

Like, let's let's ultimately, it's a form of debt.

Speaker 3

The one thing that I always wanna get your reaction to as well, he he mentioned this idea that chips are an investable asset class.

Speaker 3

That seems to be kind of the main thrust of this announcement.

Speaker 3

And he said that on CNBC.

Speaker 3

He had this roundtable with all of the Wall Street CEOs.

Speaker 3

I wanna play you this clip and see what you make of it.

Speaker 0

This is really the first time that technology chips have become an investable asset class.

Speaker 0

This is a very big concept.

Speaker 0

It's big concept because the computers, these systems are not like our PCs or like our phones.

Speaker 0

These are revenue generating assets now.

Speaker 0

Productive, they're long lived, they're fungible, they're flexible.

Speaker 0

You can use it for all kinds of different things.

Speaker 3

Why is it so important to him to communicate that the chips are an investable asset class, and why is that why is that such an essential component of this big announcement?

Speaker 4

So let me wind back the clock a couple years.

Speaker 4

There there's there's a history here for Nvidia providing financing for customers.

Speaker 4

In the early days, in 2022 and 2023, Nvidia provided essentially what I was talking about before, easy working capital terms to the first round of neo clouds like CoreWeave.

Speaker 4

And it was it was so hot back then that Core Weave could take delivery of systems, earn enough from running those systems for a few months that they could pay back Nvidia very quickly.

Speaker 4

Over time, as the Neo Clouds and Nvidia's ambitions grew, that wasn't enough.

Speaker 4

The numbers got too big.

Speaker 4

And so Nvidia started getting more actively involved.

Speaker 4

And the the key thing they did at that point was they provided backstops.

Speaker 4

Right?

Speaker 4

If you if you can't sell all the compute we're selling you, if you can't use it all, we'll buy some percentage of it.

Speaker 4

Right?

Speaker 4

Now today, Nvidia already has as of last quarter, Nvidia had $30,000,000,000 of, what do they call, compute service agreements in place.

Speaker 4

It's not on the books.

Speaker 4

It's not on the balance sheet, but it's in the footnotes.

Speaker 4

What's been happening in the on the debt side as these neo clouds, these new cloud service providers are coming up, there there are hundreds of them now, and they've all gone to lenders and said, hey.

Speaker 4

Loan us loan us some money so we can buy some GPUs.

Speaker 4

And the lenders look at that, and they they want collateral.

Speaker 4

And they have always said that the GPUs are not sufficient collateral.

Speaker 4

And so if you look at most of the really big neo cloud financings that have taken place, the debt is ultimately backed not by the the GPUs, not the hardware, but by the customers.

Speaker 4

Right?

Speaker 4

Microsoft signs signs a long term agreement.

Speaker 4

They're gonna buy this compute.

Speaker 4

That's that's the credit guarantee that the lenders want.

Speaker 4

And even that wasn't enough, and so Nvidia's had to step in more and more to provide sort of a topper on that commitment.

Speaker 4

I think the a lot of the the borrowers in this market would really, really, really like to have GPUs themselves as collateral.

Speaker 4

对。

Mhmm.

Speaker 4

Right?

Speaker 4

Because we're at the point now where the the hyperscalers who have been providing most of the commitments so far are getting much more aggressive in building their

Speaker 5

自己的

own

Speaker 4

产能。

capacity.

Speaker 4

They don't need to use third parties as much.

Speaker 4

They're less willing to sign these these deals with with third party new clouds.

Speaker 4

They they wanna use their balance sheet for them for their own purposes, for their own for buildings and data centers that they control.

Speaker 4

And so that that sort of source of guarantee is not going away.

Speaker 4

It's it's not it's not gone, but it's it's probably shrinking.

Speaker 4

And so what's gonna what's gonna provide the guarantee here?

Speaker 4

What's gonna be the collateral?

Speaker 4

It sure would be nice if the lenders would accept GPUs as collateral.

Speaker 4

And I think that's that's the message he's trying to get across.

Speaker 4

I personally don't think that's gonna land with investors.

Speaker 4

I think they're still gonna wanna see some other forms of guarantees, and that's ultimately why Nvidia is gonna take on some form of obligation here.

Speaker 3

So he's basically saying this is the anchor of the $500,000,000,000 in debt that I'm about to go raise, and you guys should all do the same thing because this is this is something that we can all do.

Speaker 3

Right?

Speaker 4

没错。

That's right.

Speaker 4

Now now in in in fairness to them, I I I will say that one of the big concerns around this market has been depreciation of GPUs.

Speaker 4

是的。

Yes.

Speaker 4

Right?

Speaker 4

This has been, you know, hotly debated.

Speaker 4

Michael Burry's talked about it.

Speaker 4

You guys have talked about it.

Speaker 4

Jensen makes a valid point in that older hardware doesn't depreciate quite as quickly as the the worst as the bears will say.

Speaker 4

And Nvidia has actually done a really good job of updating and advancing the capabilities of its older platforms.

Speaker 4

So you can get more output, more tokens from a system now than you could a year ago from the same system through software and other tweaks.

Speaker 4

So there is there is some of that too.

Speaker 4

He's trying to get that message across too, and and and they've done a good job of that.

Speaker 4

I wanna give them credit for it.

Speaker 4

But ultimately, it's it's trying to sell GPUs as collateral, and it's it's not it's it's tough sell to investors.

Speaker 3

We're back with Prof G Markets.

Speaker 3

Two of the biggest space companies in America reported earnings Monday night, and neither one gave investors much to like.

Speaker 3

Rocket Lab brought in a record $234,000,000 in revenue, up 62% from last year, but it lost more money than analysts were expecting.

Speaker 3

AST SpaceMobile came in short on revenue, and its losses more than doubled to $231,000,000.

Speaker 3

A big chunk of that loss was a $126,000,000 write off from a satellite that Blue Origin had launched into the wrong orbit earlier this year.

Speaker 3

Both stocks fell on those reports.

Speaker 3

The real story for these two, though, goes back to June when SpaceX went public and investors sold off the rest of the sector presumably to buy in.

Speaker 3

Rocket Lab dropped 11% on the day of SpaceX's IPO, and AST dropped 16%.

Speaker 3

Space stocks continue to slide through July with some of them cratering as much as 40%.

Speaker 3

Today, SpaceX trades below its IPO price, but that money still hasn't come back to the rest of the space sector.

Speaker 3

So what is next for the space industry?

Speaker 3

We are speaking with Tim Farrar, president of TMF Associates.

Speaker 3

Tim, thanks for joining us on the show.

Speaker 3

We got some pretty important earnings reports from two of the other big space companies, AST SpaceMobile and also Rocket Lab.

Speaker 3

It seems that investors are getting kinda shaky, about this sector right now.

Speaker 3

What do you make of the earnings, and what do you make of of space post SpaceX IPO?

Speaker 5

Well, both Rocket Lab and AST are trying to emulate SpaceX.

Speaker 5

They're trying to vertically integrate.

Speaker 5

So Rocket Lab started off building rockets.

Speaker 5

It moved into satellite systems.

Speaker 5

Now it's buying Iridium to add the application layer to that service.

Speaker 5

So that's the same as SpaceX, which started off with rockets, building satellites, built up Starlink itself.

Speaker 5

AST started in a different direction.

Speaker 5

They started building satellites to launch their own constellation.

Speaker 5

They just raised over a billion dollars a couple of months ago to try and move into the launch business, because they're struggling to get launches from third parties, and as you said, they had the problems with Blue Origin, which were amplified when the New Glenn rocket exploded on the pad just after their failed launch, and now they're scrambling for launches.

Speaker 5

All these companies are trying to put those three things together and build up their companies, but they're suffering from delays.

Speaker 5

So AST has got this problem trying to find launches to launch its satellites.

Speaker 5

It struggled to build as many satellites as it wanted to do as well, and then after that, it has obviously to stand up a service and try and compete head to head with Starlink.

Speaker 5

Rocket Lab, they're launching their small rocket, but they've got this new, bigger Neutron rocket coming along, and that's really, really delayed.

Speaker 5

Last year, they were saying it was going to launch in '25.

Speaker 5

Now they're saying we hope '26.

Speaker 5

A lot of analysts are thinking probably '27, and that's really critical to launch more and bigger satellites and take advantage of this consolidation with Iridium.

Speaker 3

To what extent did the SpaceX IPO change the dynamics of this market?

Speaker 3

Because, I mean, you had a handful of names.

Speaker 3

These were some of the hottest stocks last year, the space stock specifically.

Speaker 3

Then SpaceX comes along, gigantic company, one of the most valuable companies in the world.

Speaker 3

Presumably, that really shakes up the way this market works.

Speaker 3

How has it affected things in the space industry?

Speaker 5

Well, I think both Rocket Lab and AST had got very inflated valuations based on their current business.

Speaker 5

Mean, that's a lot the same as SpaceX.

Speaker 5

Also has a really high valuation for the size of the business it actually has.

Speaker 5

So the flow in SpaceX has been mirrored by a fallback in these valuations as well, but I think the difference between the two companies is that Rocket Lab is buying an established business with Iridium.

Speaker 5

That should be a fairly solid business.

Speaker 5

It generates a bunch of cash flow.

Speaker 5

In a way, you could say maybe it's a bit like AOL back in 2000 buying Time Warner and exchanging its shares for real assets, but it's a good thing to do if you have a high flying stock.

Speaker 5

And AST, on the other hand, has really been trying to do it all itself, and now has sort of been stranded by the lack of launches.

Speaker 3

Are all of them inflated in your view?

Speaker 3

Are they all overvalued?

Speaker 5

I think that's right.

Speaker 5

I think certainly where those companies have gone up to based on the current revenues and the profitability, think it's hard to know how they will trade relative to SpaceX because SpaceX is so dominant in this business now.

Speaker 5

It's got all this cash in its balance sheet.

Speaker 5

Yeah, it may spend most of that on AI and stuff like that, but it's competing really heavily, particularly against AST.

Speaker 5

We've heard all this news about SpaceX getting into the mobile business, competing with the mobile carriers, building a whole new generation of Starlink mobile satellites, and that's exactly what AST is trying to do as well.

Speaker 5

So Rocket Lab, I think, has a slightly better position.

Speaker 5

It s trying to avoid the head to head competition with SpaceX.

Speaker 5

Iridium is very much in the safety services, things like position, navigation and timing, things like aviation and maritime safety.

Speaker 5

Not quite so threatened by SpaceX.

Speaker 5

But still, yeah, these things are going to trade.

Speaker 5

If people are negative about SpaceX, they're going to start to be negative about some of these other companies as well, at least on a valuation perspective.

Speaker 3

What do you make of the fact that SpaceX has been plowing so much of its money and also just in sort of its time and its energy into the AI story?

Speaker 3

Because I kind of I look at space and I'm like, this is a hot sector.

Speaker 3

This is what every investor has gotten so excited about.

Speaker 3

And then suddenly it seems like SpaceX pivots away from space.

Speaker 3

Space is now like a tenth of their business, and now it's all about AI.

Speaker 3

It's all about being something between a Google hyperscaler and an Anthropic or an OpenAI.

Speaker 3

I mean, does that say about the space industry if we're no longer the largest space company in the world isn't even a space company?

Speaker 5

Well, think the question marks are there about what is the ultimate size of the Starlink business and the launch business as well.

Speaker 5

AI, no one knows how big it is, but we all assume it's going to be many billions, if not trillions of dollars, not least because all the other companies are investing in it as well.

Speaker 5

Space, it's a more limited market.

Speaker 5

Historically, it's been pretty small.

Speaker 5

Now Elon Musk spent half the weekend on X talking about how he was going to take over the Internet and convey most Internet traffic over Starlink in the future, and how it was going to serve lots of robots and every car in the world.

Speaker 5

That's all a bit crazy, but I think it speaks to the fact that he's got to sort of talk up SpaceX and Starlink as well, because he can't just lean everything on AI.

Speaker 3

What do you make of the some of the the bull cases that we're hearing as this relates to space, orbital data centers, asteroid mining.

Speaker 3

I mean, one of the other big projects for SpaceX is civilizations on Mars and civilizations on the moon.

Speaker 3

It seems a little nuts.

Speaker 3

But are those are those real?

Speaker 3

Are those businesses that are that are actually going to materialize in your view?

Speaker 5

Well, I think they're all far into the future.

Speaker 5

And and I think what Musk threw out there on the earnings call last week was the statement that Starship's gonna be launching every day next year, twelve months from now.

Speaker 5

That's not going to be filled up with people going asteroid mining or colonizing the moon or any of these sorts of things.

Speaker 5

Not even going to be filled up with data centers because they have to go and get their tariff fab factory built to make the chips to go on those satellites.

Speaker 5

They're going to have to get this launch site.

Speaker 5

They're buying some more land in Louisiana that they're going to have to build a new launch site for all these orbital data center satellites.

Speaker 5

Those are going to take years.

Speaker 5

So next year, Musk is right and they're going to be launching Starship every week or every day even, that's going to have to be filled up with Starlink satellites, that's why he's so keen to highlight that, you know, there's this huge market for Starlink.

Speaker 3

What is the most realistic bull case in your view, for the space industry?

Speaker 3

Like, what is what is the prize that might actually come to fruition in the space industry over the next few years?

Speaker 5

Well, the real question is how competitive space becomes with terrestrial.

Speaker 5

You know, today, Starlink has has made a lot of progress.

Speaker 5

It's got to, $10,000,000,000 of revenue, over $10,000,000,000 last year.

Speaker 5

But that's just really taking business away from existing satellite companies.

It's competing for people who didn't really have much option.

Speaker 5

Now they're starting to take on the terrestrial telcos, and that's why we hear all this noise about what T Mobile and AT and T and Verizon think of all this.

Speaker 5

Data centers are the same sort of thing.

Speaker 5

They've got to compete with terrestrial data centers as well.

Speaker 5

So people say, well, let's put all these data centers in space because we're not going to have all these environmentalists.

Speaker 5

Well, maybe, but maybe they might object to launch sites as well.

Speaker 5

But that's the real question, is how economic are things going to be in space relative to on the ground?

Speaker 5

And to be honest, I think people forecast space is going to be much better than on the ground now.

Speaker 5

It's hard to believe that space is going to improve so quickly, but stuff on the ground isn't going to get solved as well.

Speaker 5

Nuclear power stations on the ground might solve the power problem.

Speaker 5

There's a lot of land in places like Texas that aren't necessarily going to be so environmentally sensitive as other states around the country.

Speaker 5

I'm bullish about what might happen on the ground, and so I think that inevitably means that what we do in space is going to tend to be limited to a small percentage of the overall market.

Startup founder Phoebe Gates, the daughter of Bill Gates, is being investigated for defrauding her clients with fake revenue numbers.

Speaker 3

According to Bloomberg, the Stanford grad engaged in something known in the affiliate marketing industry as cookie stuffing, a common form of fraud where you take credit for sales that you didn't actually drive.

Speaker 3

And according to Bloomberg, she knew what she was doing, but she did it anyway.

Speaker 3

Now I could understand why a more desperate founder who needed the money might engage in this kind of thing, but it's unclear why you would ever try to defraud your way into financial success if your dad was Bill Gates.

Speaker 3

The only explanation that makes any sense, to me at least, is more of a sociological phenomenon that we have discussed before, and that is this idea of the cult of entrepreneurship.

Speaker 3

That is today, unlike any time in history, everyone wants to be a founder.

Speaker 3

Because unlike in years previous when being a founder basically just meant being a business person, today it means being a lot of other things too.

Speaker 3

It means being an influencer, a celebrity, a trendsetter, maybe even a podcast host.

Speaker 3

These are the kinds of sociocultural benefits that are now associated with being a founder.

Speaker 3

And as evidenced by Phoebe Gates, it's now gotten to a point where it's not even about the money.

Speaker 3

It's about everything else.

Speaker 3

This is what happens when a society is trained to believe that its ultimate heroes are the founders of tech companies.

Speaker 3

Everyone wants to be the next Steve Jobs, the next Jensen Huang, the next Bill Gates.

Speaker 3

The upside is it does mean more business formation, but the downside is this.

Speaker 3

From Sam Bankman Fried to Elizabeth Holmes and now Phoebe Gates, too many young people have gotten drunk on the Kool Aid that is founder worship.

Speaker 3

And as with any addictive substance, the ramifications can be devastating.
