接下来是你的主持人,埃琳·沃特斯。

Here's your host, Erin Waters.

Speaker 1

大家好,朋友们,欢迎收听《卖家学校》播客的又一期节目。

Hello, friends, and welcome to another episode of the School of Sellers podcast.

Speaker 1

我非常期待这一期的内容。

I am really looking forward to this episode.

Speaker 1

我们继续推出2022年广受欢迎的系列节目《全球卖家》,正如你所猜到的,我们将采访来自世界各地的卖家。

We are continuing a very popular series from 2022 called Sellers Around the World where, you guessed it, we interview sellers from all around the world.

Speaker 1

那些在其他国家教学、在其他地方经营业务的人。

People who are teaching in other countries, people who are running their business in other places.

Speaker 1

能够一窥世界另一端的生活,这种感觉对我来说实在太酷了。

And there's just something about getting a glimpse into life in somewhere that's on the other side of the world that is just so cool to me.

Speaker 1

所以今天,我非常高兴欢迎蕾切尔·麦卡伦来到我们的节目。

So today, I am so excited to welcome Rachel McCracken to our show.

Speaker 1

蕾切尔·麦卡伦在TPT上有一个店铺。

Rachel McCracken has a TPT store.

Speaker 1

店铺就用她的名字,蕾切尔·麦卡伦,你们可以去查看一下。

It's her name, Rachel McCracken, so you can go check it out if you want.

Speaker 1

但当我这么说时——和蕾切尔坐下来聊她的国际经历让我受益匪浅,这都还是轻描淡写。

But when I say I enjoyed sitting down with Rachel and chatting about her international experiences, that is an understatement.

Speaker 1

所以朋友们,我希望你们能像我一样享受这段对话。

So friends, I hope you enjoy this conversation as much as I did.

Speaker 1

好了,朋友们,今天我非常兴奋地欢迎我们的嘉宾来到节目。

All right, my friends, I am so excited to welcome our guests to the show today.

Speaker 1

蕾切尔,非常感谢你做客《卖家学校》播客。

Rachel, thank you so much for being on The School of Sellers podcast.

Speaker 2

谢谢你邀请我,埃琳。

Thanks for having me, Erin.

Speaker 2

能来到这里真是太激动了。

It is so exciting to be here.

Speaker 2

你在TPT圈里就像一位名人。

You're like a celebrity in the TPT world.

Speaker 2

所以对我来说,这非常非常有趣。

So this is very, very fun for me.

Speaker 1

太棒了。

Awesome.

Speaker 1

说实话,我从不觉得自己是这样,但我很感谢你对来到这里的热情。

Well, that's the last thing I feel like honestly, but I appreciate your excitement for being here.

Speaker 1

而且今天你能在这里,我们能同时交流,这更加特别,因为你来自离我非常遥远的地方。

And I it's even more special that you're here today and that we're here at the same time because you are here from somewhere very far from where I am.

Speaker 1

那么,既然我们正在做‘全球卖家’系列,你能不能告诉我们,今天你是在哪里和我们连线的?

So why don't you tell our audience since we are doing the Sellers Around the World series where you are speaking to us from today?

Speaker 2

是的,我住在巴西的库里蒂巴。

Yeah, I'm living in Curitiba, Brazil.

Speaker 2

发音是这样的,虽然拼写是Curitiba,位于巴西南部。

That's how it's pronounced, although it's spelled like Curitiba and it's in Southern Brazil.

Speaker 2

所以,这里可能是你在巴西境内离美国最远的地方了。

So it's probably as far from The US as you could get while still being in Brazil.

Speaker 2

不过,我已经从事国际教学八年了,今年是第八年。

But yeah, I've been international teaching now for, this is my eighth year international.

Speaker 2

在这之前,我在危地马拉。

Before this, I was in Guatemala.

Speaker 1

哇。

Wow.

Speaker 1

好吧,这真是太有趣了。

Okay, so this is super interesting.

Speaker 1

对于那些刚接触这个节目的听众来说,我们一直在进行一个播客系列,聚焦于我们社区中那些不居住在美国的优秀卖家。

And for those of you listening who might be kind of new to the show, we've been doing this podcast series where we tap into the amazing sellers that we have in the community that are not based in The United States.

Speaker 1

因为我首先很喜欢听关于其他地方的生活,以及这些经历如何影响了你的TBT体验等等。

Because first of I just love hearing about life in other places, but also just how it has impacted your TBT experience and all of that.

Speaker 1

所以我们会和Rachel聊聊这些有趣的事情。

So we will be talking to Rachel all about those fun things.

Speaker 1

所以我总是想听听你的TPT起源故事,你是怎么开始使用TPT的。

So let's I always like to hear like the TPT origin story and like how you even got started with TPT.

Speaker 1

你也可以让我们了解一下你刚才说的七年、八年里的情况。

And you can also give us a glimpse into what the last you said seven years, eight years

Speaker 2

八年,没错。

Eight, yeah.

Speaker 1

对你来说这段时间是怎样的。

Has been like for you.

Speaker 1

所以跟我们分享一下你这段时间都在做些什么吧。

So give us a little glimpse into what you've been up to.

Speaker 2

嗯,嗯。

Yeah, yeah.

Speaker 2

好的,好吧。

So, okay.

Speaker 2

天啊。

Well, oh my gosh.

Speaker 2

我觉得我可能需要简单介绍一下我是如何开始从事国际教学的。

I don't, I feel like I probably need to give a little bit of background as to how I even got involved in international teaching.

Speaker 2

我会尽量简短地说。

I'll try to keep it as brief as possible.

Speaker 2

但小时候,我在三年级、四年级和五年级时曾生活在国外。

But, like, as a child, I actually lived internationally when I was in third, fourth, and fifth grade.

Speaker 2

我们当时在香港和新加坡。

We were in Hong Kong and Singapore.

Speaker 2

所以我在那里上了国际学校。

So I attended international schools there.

Speaker 2

后来我回到美国,在弗吉尼亚州大学毕业,并在那里教了四年书。

And then I went back to The States, graduated from college in Virginia and taught in Virginia for four years there.

Speaker 2

但我当时感到精疲力尽,日子很难熬。

But I was feeling like really burnt out and it was hard.

Speaker 2

我的意思是,我知道美国公立学校的许多教师和教师招聘人员都处境艰难。

I mean, I know that a lot of teachers and teacher sellers are just really in tough positions in The US in public school.

Speaker 2

那时,我真心打算放弃教学了。

And I was honestly ready to quit teaching at that point.

Speaker 2

然后我想起了自己的童年,心想:好吧,我试试国际教学吧,因为我小时候在国际学校的日子真的很愉快。

And then I remembered back to my childhood and I was like, okay, I'll give international teaching a shot because I loved my experience as a child in inter international schools.

Speaker 2

于是我就搬到了危地马拉。

And so that's when I moved to Guatemala.

Speaker 2

我其实有个大学时的朋友。

I actually had a friend from college.

Speaker 2

我们是Facebook好友。

We were Facebook friends.

Speaker 2

我看到她在危地马拉教书,她帮我找到了那里的一份工作。

I saw she was teaching in Guatemala, and she helped me get a job there.

Speaker 2

她其实就是那个介绍我开始在TPT上销售的人。

And she actually was the same person that introduced me to selling on TPT.

Speaker 2

我们俩都是那所学校二年级的老师,只有我们两个二年级老师。

We were both like, there were two second grade teachers at that school, and we were the two second grade teachers.

Speaker 2

我看到她为学生们制作了大量教学资源,我们当时是共同教学、共享班级。

And I saw she was creating all these resources for for her students, and we were kind of co teaching and sharing classes.

Speaker 2

比如,我教数学,她教阅读,两个人的课都一起上。

Like, we would I taught math and she would teach reading for both of our classes.

Speaker 2

所以我看到了她制作的所有资源,发现其实并没有那么难。

And so I got to see all the resources she was creating and it actually wasn't that hard.

Speaker 2

她当时教我,那时候我们都是用PowerPoint来制作所有材料。

And she kinda showed me, you know, back then we were using PowerPoint to create everything.

Speaker 2

她教我如何更改幻灯片尺寸和纸张大小。

And she showed me like how to change the slide size, the paper size.

Speaker 2

我当时真的觉得,这简直就是TPT入门基础知识,你知道的?

And like, I was literally like, it was like TPT 101 basics, you know?

Speaker 2

但后来我开始在那里创建一些资源。

But then I started just creating a few resources there.

Speaker 2

那大概是2016年,也许是2016年。

That was probably 2016, maybe 2016.

Speaker 2

我实际上开始对这件事更认真了。

And I started to get more serious about it actually.

Speaker 2

她确实会飞去参加各种会议。

She actually would fly and attend the conferences.

Speaker 2

所以当会议开始在线举办时——也就是疫情期间——我真正开始更加认真地对待这件事。

And so once the conferences became available online, which was during the pandemic, I actually started getting much more serious about it.

Speaker 2

那只是几年前的事。

And so that was only a few years ago.

Speaker 2

我的销售额在我参加那次大会、发现‘卖家学校’并开始大量学习之后一路飙升。

I mean, the sales have shot through the roof once I attended that conference and found School of Sellers and started just learning a lot.

Speaker 2

所以,这就是我的经历,我的TPT之旅,实际上也是我整个人生的旅程。

So that's kind of my journey, my TPT journey and whole life journey really.

Speaker 1

嗯。

Yeah.

Speaker 1

好的。

Okay.

Speaker 1

这太有趣了。

That is fascinating.

Speaker 1

你说的时候,我一直在记笔记,有太多东西了。

There's so many things I was like writing notes as you were saying.

Speaker 1

首先,我很欣赏你当时几乎不想再教书了。

So I first of all, I love that you were kind of like on the brink of not wanting to teach anymore.

Speaker 1

而国际道路在某种程度上成了你摆脱困境的救星。

And the international path was kind of what was your savior in this whole situation.

Speaker 1

我认为这对现在的教师来说非常重要,因为有很多教师正在挣扎,但他们仍然热爱教学。

I think that's really important for teachers to hear right now, because there are so many teachers who are struggling and who still love teaching.

Speaker 1

所以,如果你有灵活性和自由去做这样的事情,这就提供了一个额外的选择。

So it's just adding another option if you have the flexibility and the freedom to do something like that.

Speaker 1

好的,我喜欢这一点。

Okay, so I love that.

Speaker 1

我也喜欢这是对会议的支持,因为我认为如果你刚起步,这会是一个巨大的能量提振。

And I love that that's a vote for the conference because I think that's a huge kind of like energy booster if you're just starting out.

Speaker 1

我特别喜欢你说你最近才认真起来,因为很多人听到TBT时都觉得,现在才开始根本不可能成功。

And I super love that you say that you just got serious like recently because I think so many people hear about TBT and think like, there's no way I can start now and make it work for me.

Speaker 1

所以,听到那些并不是从网站一开通就一直在做的人分享经验,真的非常鼓舞人心。

So I think it's really encouraging to hear from people who haven't been doing it since, you know, the site itself opened.

Speaker 1

因为我觉得,你经常听到的成功故事往往都是那样的。

Because I feel like that's a lot of times the success stories that you hear about.

Speaker 1

但显然,我们今天来这里是为了讨论巴西的部分。

So but obviously, what we're here to talk about today is the Brazil piece.

Speaker 1

我想听听你在巴西教学时喜欢的、但在美国可能找不到的方面。

So I want to hear about something that you love about teaching in Brazil that you might not find in The United States.

Speaker 2

好吧,让我先为国际教学整体点个赞,因为就像你说的,美国公立教育中的职业倦怠确实是真实存在的。

Well, let me just give a shout out to just teaching internationally in general, because like you said, burnout in public education in The States is a real thing.

Speaker 2

而且这压力非常大。

And it is incredibly stressful.

Speaker 2

这并不是说国际教学就没有压力。

And it's not to say international teaching isn't stressful.

Speaker 2

当然也还是有各种压力的。

There are still definitely stressors as well.

Speaker 2

但我认为,对于教师来说,在国际学校工作更容易坚持下去。

But it's like much more sustainable, I think, for a teacher to kind of survive in international schools.

Speaker 2

国际教学的一些绝佳之处在于,除了特别课程外,总会有语言课。

Just a couple of the things that are amazing about international teaching is that there's always gonna be a language class in addition to their specials.

Speaker 2

这意味着班主任每天会有两个备课时段。

So that means the homeroom teacher would get two planning blocks a day.

Speaker 2

而且国际上有很多保护员工的法律,这在美国并不常见。

And there's also a lot of laws internationally that kind of protect workers that you don't often see in The US.

Speaker 2

比如在巴西,根据法律规定,我们有一个小时的午餐时间,学校在这段时间内不得要求我们做任何工作。

So like for example, we get in Brazil by law, a one hour lunch break and the school is not allowed to ask us to do anything during that time.

Speaker 2

所以,这些只是国际教学,特别是在巴西的一些优势。

So those are just some of the perks about international teaching and specifically in Brazil.

Speaker 2

但另一件好事是我身在海外,却依然能保持与美国及美国最佳教学实践的联系,因为我们遵循大量的美国课程。

But also another thing that's nice is that I'm living abroad, but I still get to stay connected to The US and the best practices in The US because we follow a lot of US curriculum.

Speaker 2

因此,我们的专业发展也让我们紧跟这些最佳实践的最新动态。

And so our professional development is also keeping us up to date on those best practices.

Speaker 2

所以我可以在专业上不断成长,同时知道,如果我想回到美国,也不会对教育现状完全陌生。

And so I can grow professionally and also know that if I wanted to return to The States, I wouldn't be completely lost on where education is.

Speaker 2

是的。

Yeah.

Speaker 2

另一个很棒的事情是,在这所学校,我有机会成为一名数学教练。

And another cool thing is that I, at this school, is that I got an opportunity to become a math coach.

Speaker 2

所以我不再是班主任了。

So I'm not a homeroom teacher anymore.

Speaker 2

我现在是一名数学教练,与其它老师更紧密地合作,并有机会进入所有老师的课堂观察。

I am now a math coach, I'm working more closely with the other teachers, and I get a chance to see inside all their classrooms.

Speaker 2

这真的很棒。

It's really nice.

Speaker 2

太酷了。

That's so cool.

Speaker 1

反过来讲,当你最初决定来巴西教书时,有没有遇到什么让你意想不到的挑战?

Kind of on the flip side, has there been any like surprising challenges that you didn't anticipate when you first decided to come to Brazil to teach?

Speaker 2

嗯,最大的一个挑战是我2019年7月搬到这里。

Well, major one, I moved here in July 2019.

Speaker 2

所以最大的意外就是新冠疫情,它发生在我来到这里的第一年,让我第一次真切地感受到自己离家真的好远。

So the biggest surprise was COVID in my And first year of being honestly, it made me feel like for the first time that I was really far from home.

Speaker 2

在其他地方,比如危地马拉,它和美国在地理上非常近。

Like in all the other, in Guatemala, it's physically a very close country to The States.

Speaker 2

我在那里时,回去非常方便。

It's easy to get there when I was there.

Speaker 2

即使在巴西,我也知道我总能在假期回家,但一旦新冠疫情爆发,边境关闭,出行或去任何地方都变得风险重重。

Even in Brazil, it's like, knew I could always go back home on vacations, but once COVID hit and borders closed and you really had to kind of like to travel or go anywhere was risky.

Speaker 2

你必须时刻注意自己的健康。

Like, you had to watch out for your own health too.

Speaker 2

这让我意识到:哦,我想念我的家人。

It made me realize like, Oh, I miss my family.

Speaker 2

我怀念那些让我感到舒适的东西,你知道吗?

I miss being near like things that are comfortable, you know?

Speaker 2

但这也让我意识到,我想谈谈这一点,因为它让我认识到自己在许多方面拥有的特权。

But it also made me realize like, I wanted to talk about this because it made me recognize the privilege that I have in many ways.

Speaker 2

我拥有许多特权,比如我的种族、性取向,还有很多其他方面的特权。

I have many privileges, you know, being like as far as my race, you know, sexuality, like many things I have a privilege.

Speaker 2

但你很少会想到语言也是一种特权;作为外国的母语英语者,这实际上是一个巨大的优势,因为当你生病时,大多数医生都接受过英语国家的教育,或者至少能说英语。

But one thing you don't often think about is language as being a privilege and being a native English speaker in a foreign country is actually a huge privilege because when you do get sick, most doctors are educated in English speaking countries or at least are able to speak English.

Speaker 2

所以,就在今天早上,我去牙医那里补牙,她全程都用英语和我交流。

So, know, like just this morning, was having my cavity filled at the dentist and I was like, she was speaking English to me the entire time.

Speaker 2

我当时就想,我有多幸运啊,或者说我有多特权,能生活在一个以葡萄牙语为母语的国家,却依然能安心地补牙;当我感染新冠时,去看医生,他们也能用英语和我交流,至少让我有这份安心。

And I was like, how lucky is this or how privileged am I that I can live in a country where Portuguese is the native language and still feel comfortable getting a cavity filled or when I did get COVID, you know, going to doctors and having them speak English with me so that I could at least have that comfort.

Speaker 1

对。

Right.

Speaker 1

我从来没想过这一点。

I've never even considered that.

Speaker 1

我其实根本不知道这一点,我从来没意识到过。

And I don't think I actually even knew that about, I didn't realize that.

Speaker 1

那是因为——

That was-

Speaker 2

是啊,如果你在美国,你根本不会想到这一点,因为这不过是生活的一部分而已。

Yeah, it's something that if you're in The US, you would never think about it because it's just, you know, it's just part of life.

Speaker 2

即使你外出旅行,也会注意到这一点,但真正当你生活在异国他乡,必须面对体检、看医生之类的事务时,才会深刻体会到——比如,我刚生了孩子,不过其实我是在美国生的。

Even if you're traveling, don't, you do see it when you travel, but it's really when you're living in a country and you have to deal with things like, you know, checkups or doctor's appointments or, you know, just things that are like I mean, I just had a baby, but actually I had the baby in The US.

Speaker 2

但如果我在这里生孩子,我的医生英语非常好,没有这一点,我想我根本做不到。

But if I were to have the baby here, my doctor speaks great English, and, like, I don't think I'd be able to do it without that.

Speaker 2

事实上,在世界上任何大城市,只要有国际学校,通常你都能找到会说英语的医生。

And honestly, countries in the world, if you're in a big city that has international schools, most likely you can find doctors that speak English as well.

Speaker 2

这就像……我不知道,我们之前在聊一些意想不到的挑战,但其实这几乎是一种意想不到的恩惠。

And that's just like, I don't know, just something I know we were talking about a surprising challenge, but it's actually almost like a surprising blessing to that.

Speaker 1

不,我太喜欢这个说法了。

No, I love that.

Speaker 1

这太有趣了。

That is fascinating.

Speaker 1

所以,除了我们之前提到的显而易见的事情之外,你觉得生活在巴西是否影响了你的TBT业务?

So do you think that aside from the obvious things that we've talked about, like, do you think that living specifically in Brazil has impacted your TBT business?

Speaker 1

比如,你会不会根据所在地来设计某些产品?

Like, do you find yourself making like certain products based on your location?

Speaker 1

或者这对你整体的业务产生了怎样的影响?

Or how has that impacted just your business in general?

Speaker 2

我的店铺主要销售数学类产品,客户群体主要在美国。

My store is mostly around math products and the audience is mostly in The US.

Speaker 2

所以我并不会根据在巴西的任何情况来调整我的产品。

So I don't really modify my products based on anything that would impact me here in Brazil.

Speaker 2

如果非要说有什么影响,那就是它帮助我保持了全球化的思维,并意识到语言问题。

If anything, it just kind of helps me maintain a global mindset and be aware of language issues.

Speaker 2

说实话,我觉得正因身处巴西,我才成了更好的老师,因为这里的所有学生都是巴西人。

I honestly think that actually being in Brazil has helped me become a better teacher because all of our students here are Brazilian.

Speaker 2

因此你必须真正掌握作为第二语言的英语教学,或者针对英语学习者的英语教学。

And so you have to really master teaching English as a second language or English for English language learners.

Speaker 2

所以,我在制作内容时,比如我会确保我的Boom Cards包含音频,这样可以帮助那些正在学习语言的孩子们,这或许是一个小小的额外步骤。

And so, I mean, it kind of helps me when I'm creating, you know, like, I make sure I include audio on my boom cards that I have so that, you know, that might be another little step to help with kids that are learning language too.

Speaker 2

但确实,这对我影响不大,可能只有一些零零散散的小细节。

But, yeah, it's it doesn't impact me a whole lot, but maybe there's a few little things here and there.

Speaker 1

哦,我完全能理解这一点,我同意,因为过去我教过很多美国的英语学习者班级。

Oh, I could absolutely see how that could like, I agree because like I've had a lot of classes in the past that were English language learners in The US.

Speaker 1

我觉得这让我成为了一名更好的老师,因为教授这些学生所用的方法、技巧和教学方式,其实适用于所有类型的学生。

And I feel like that made me a better teacher for all my students because the techniques and strategies and the way you teach them, that like transcends all types of students.

Speaker 1

所以我认为这真的是一件非常重要的事。

So I think that's actually a really huge thing.

Speaker 1

而且我也非常欣赏你提到的全球意识,明白美国并不是一个孤立的泡泡,因为你知道,你很容易陷入这种封闭的小世界。

And I also love what you said about just global awareness and understanding that The US isn't a bubble all on its own, because, you know, you can easily get into that closed little world.

Speaker 1

我认为拥有这些真正影响你和你未来所有学生的经历,真的非常棒。

And I think it's really cool to have experiences that really impact, I mean, you and all of your students to come in the future.

Speaker 1

太棒了。

That's amazing.

Speaker 2

当然。

Yeah, for sure.

Speaker 2

意识到世界上其他生活方式和不同于美国的事物,是我核心的价值观之一。

It's such a core value of mine to be aware of other things that are other ways of life around the world and that it's not all, you know, what's happening in The US.

Speaker 2

我想这最初源于我童年时在国外生活的经历,而且这种感觉从未消失。

And I think it kind of did stem originally from my childhood of living abroad and, you know, it never really went away.

Speaker 2

所以这就是我再次渴望去国外的原因。

And so that's why I had this desire to go international again.

Speaker 1

我希望看到更多大学和学院将国际教学实习作为常态。

I would love to see more colleges and universities offer like student teaching internationally as kind of like the norm.

Speaker 1

我确信某些地方已经提供了这样的机会,但我认为这对刚入行的教师来说会非常有价值。

I'm sure it's available in certain places, but I think that would be so valuable for teachers just starting out too.

Speaker 2

是的。

Yeah.

Speaker 2

说来有趣,我这里学校有一位老师,毕业于我的大学。

Well, you know, it's funny actually, because there's a teacher at my school here that went to my university.

Speaker 2

在危地马拉,也有一位老师毕业于我的大学。

And in Guatemala, there is a teacher there that went to my university.

Speaker 2

那是弗吉尼亚州的詹姆斯·麦迪逊大学。

It's James Madison University in Virginia.

Speaker 2

他们确实有国际学生教学项目,我知道很多人参加过。

And they do have international student teaching programs, which I know a lot of people did.

Speaker 2

很有趣的是,我居然在国际上遇到了两位毕业于和我同一所学校的老师,这概率有多大啊?

And it's funny because it's like, what are the chances that I would come across two other teachers that graduated from the same school as me in internationally?

Speaker 2

但我认为,这是因为那所大学非常重视全球视野。

But I think it's because at that school, they really do value that global perspective.

Speaker 2

所以,选学校时 definitely 要记住这一点。

So yeah, it's important to keep in mind as you're choosing a school for sure.

Speaker 1

当然。

Absolutely.

Speaker 1

所以当我们思考未来时,我知道你刚生了孩子,恭喜你。

So when we're thinking about the future of like, I know you said you just had a baby, congratulations.

Speaker 1

既然我知道这并不是你第一次有国际经历,你觉得自己未来会在哪里呢?

Where do you see yourself since I know this is not the first international experience you've had?

Speaker 1

在未来两三年里,你在事业和生活方面有什么规划?

Where do you see yourself in the next two, three years, like business wise, personal?

Speaker 1

你有没有考虑过其他地方?

Like do you have your sights set on other locations or?

Speaker 2

实际上,我在这里娶了一位巴西人。

So actually, I married a Brazilian here.

Speaker 2

所以我们有个宝宝,他会成为一个小小的双语孩子。

And so we have, yeah, like a he's gonna be a little bilingual baby.

Speaker 2

我非常期待他开始说话。

I'm so excited for him to start talking.

Speaker 2

但我们其实想搬回美国,我觉得这更多是我自己的愿望。

But we want to actually move back to The States, which I think it was more of a desire for me.

Speaker 2

他非常希望继续走向国际。

He would love to continue to go international.

Speaker 2

他也非常热衷于在其他国家生活。

He has a big passion for living in other countries too.

Speaker 2

但在疫情期间,我非常渴望回到美国,与家人团聚,这让我萌生了回国的念头。

But during COVID, I felt so much longing to be back in The States and be near family that it made me want to start the process of going back to The States.

Speaker 2

目前,我丈夫获得赴美签证的流程非常困难,配偶签证通常需要一年半的时间。

Now, the process for my husband to get there is actually quite difficult and it takes about a year and a half for spouses to get a visa to go to The States.

Speaker 2

目前就是这样。

At the moment.

Speaker 2

疫情也严重拖延了所有手续的处理进度。

COVID really put like delays on all the processing too.

Speaker 2

所以,很可能在未来两年内,我们就会回到美国芝加哥地区,靠近我的家人。

So probably within the next, well, definitely within the next two years, we'll be back in The States in the Chicago area and near my family.

Speaker 2

至于我的TPT业务,我只希望能继续学习。

And yeah, and then as far as my TPT business goes, I'm just excited to just keep learning.

Speaker 2

我已经上过两次你的《启动你的新年》课程。

I did your Jumpstart Your Year course twice now.

Speaker 2

第一次的时候,我坚持到了一月,但之后就完全没再继续了。

The first time it was it like worked through January and then I totally just like didn't make it make it any further.

Speaker 2

而去年因为有了宝宝,我根本没碰过我的店铺,根本没把这事放在心上,但现在我真的很兴奋。

And then for this past year, I kind of didn't touch my store whatsoever because of the baby and just I I was not on my mind, but I'm really excited.

Speaker 2

我这儿有我的计划本。

I've got my planner here.

Speaker 2

我已经全部填好了,准备认真投入了。

I'm, like, got it all filled out and ready to, like, get serious about.

Speaker 2

同时也想更多地投资自己,学习如何经营在线业务。

And also just to kind of invest more in myself and in my own learning about running an online business.

Speaker 2

所以我期待去上一些课程,看看会发生什么,看看是否能帮助我的店铺成长。

So I'm excited to just take courses and see what happens, like see if it helps the growth of my store.

Speaker 2

所以我只是期待不断进步。

So I'm just excited to keep improving.

Speaker 1

太棒了。

That's awesome.

Speaker 1

我觉得这听起来完美极了。

I think that sounds perfect.

Speaker 1

我喜欢在每集结束时问一些轻松有趣的问题。

Well, I like to end each episode with just like some just lighthearted fun questions.

Speaker 1

所以我的第一个问题是,我知道我没提前告诉你,我们就随意回答吧。

So my first question for you, and I know I didn't prepare you for these, so we'll just kind of go with them.

Speaker 1

如果你能从巴西带一种食物回美国,并让它成为美国的家常菜,你会选哪一种?

If you could take one food from Brazil and make it a commonplace dish in The United States for when you return, what would be the one thing that you would want?

Speaker 1

不是美国版本的那道菜。

Not the American version of the dish.

Speaker 2

没错。

Right.

Speaker 2

这里有很多东西在美国是根本买不到的。

There are quite a few things here that you can't really get in The States.

Speaker 2

好的。

Okay.

Speaker 2

天啊。

Gosh.

Speaker 2

有几样东西。

There's a few things.

Speaker 2

好的。

Okay.

Speaker 2

我可以选一种食物和一种饮料吗?

I'll choose can I choose a food and a drink?

Speaker 1

当然。

Yeah.

Speaker 1

我本来还以为你可以选一种食物和一种甜点。

I was literally thinking like you could choose a food and a dessert.

Speaker 1

对。

Yeah.

Speaker 1

随便选。

Choose whatever.

Speaker 2

哦,食物、甜点和饮料。

Oh, food, a dessert, and a drink.

Speaker 2

好的。

Okay.

Speaker 2

不。

No.

Speaker 1

我来选。

I'll choose

Speaker 2

关于饮料,这里有一种叫卡莎萨的烈酒,是用来制作凯匹林纳鸡尾酒的,这种酒由青柠、糖和这种卡莎萨调制而成,几乎像龙舌兰酒。

for the drink, there's a type of liquor here called cachaca, which is liquor they use in caiponinas, which is like a lime and sugar and this this cachaca, which is almost like a tequila.

Speaker 2

对我来说,它尝起来像龙舌兰酒,但巴西人绝不会这么说,他们会说绝对不是。

To me, it tastes like tequila, but Brazilians will never say they'll say no way.

Speaker 2

但我回家时在美国想买这种酒,发现那里的酒类商店根本不卖。

But that I tried to find it in The States when I was home and they don't sell it in liquor stores there.

Speaker 2

所以这样会很有趣,我可以在美国做凯匹林哈鸡尾酒。

So that would be fun so that I could make caipirinhas in The States.

Speaker 2

至于咸味食物,我会说大概是巴式奶酪面包,这是一种用木薯粉制成的奶酪面包,我想。

Now, as far as like a food, like a savory food, I would say probably pao de queija, which is a cheesy bread that is made with tapioca flour, I believe.

Speaker 2

它非常有嚼劲且奶酪味浓郁。

It's really chewy and cheesy.

Speaker 2

奶酪面包绝对不会出错。

You can't go wrong with cheesy bread.

Speaker 2

我觉得特易购超市实际上也有类似的东西。

And I think they actually make something similar at Trader Joe's.

Speaker 2

我的朋友们寄给我过,他们称之为巴式奶酪面包,我想是在特易购超市卖的。

I my friends have sent me they call it, like, Brazilian cheese bread, I think, at Trader Joe's.

Speaker 2

我不知道他们现在还有没有卖。

I don't know if they still have it.

Speaker 2

但你可能在那里能找到类似的东西,不过我还没试过,不知道是不是正宗的。

But you might be able to find something there, but I haven't I haven't tried it to know if it's, like, authentic or not.

Speaker 2

我觉得那可能是两样东西。

I'd say that's probably the two things.

Speaker 2

如果我要选一种甜点,那可能是 brigadeiro,这种甜点其实可以自己做。

The other thing, if I were to choose a dessert, would probably be brigadeiro, which just like, which you can actually make.

Speaker 2

我可能在美国也能做出来,它用的是炼乳和可可粉,煮一下就会变得非常浓稠、粘稠、顺滑。

I could probably make it in The States, but it's sweetened condensed milk and chocolate powder and you cook it and it becomes really thick and sticky and smooth.

Speaker 2

它真的非常好。

It's really, really good.

Speaker 1

哦,听起来都太棒了。

Oh, that all sounds amazing.

Speaker 2

好吧,我喜欢这个问题,我给了你三个答案。

Okay, I like that question and gave you like three answers.

Speaker 1

哦,我可以。

Oh, I could.

Speaker 1

好吧,我可以整天聊商业,但是像,

Okay, so I could talk about business all day, but like,

Speaker 2

我可以一直聊食物

I could talk about food

Speaker 1

一整天。

all day.

Speaker 1

我喜欢聊食物。

I love talking about food.

Speaker 2

所以

So

Speaker 1

那里没有答案太长。

no answers too long there.

Speaker 1

但我觉得为了你最后一个有趣的问题,我得继续围绕旅行主题。

But I feel like I need to stick on the travel theme for your, your last just for fun question.

Speaker 1

你去过最远的地方是哪里?

Where is the farthest that you've ever traveled?

Speaker 1

我想,如果我们以美国为起点,那就是离美国最远的地方。

And I guess it would be like farthest from The States if we're starting location.

Speaker 2

可能是新加坡,我觉得那是最远的。

Probably Singapore, I think is probably the farthest.

Speaker 2

对。

Yeah.

Speaker 2

当我们还是孩子的时候,那是九十年代末到两千年初,那时候航空旅行可能比现在花的时间更长。

So when we were kids, and that was back in the late nineties, early two thousands when I think airline travel probably took longer, you know, than it does now.

Speaker 2

但我认为那可能是物理上最远的地方。

But I think that's probably the physically farthest place.

Speaker 2

尽管巴西出人意料地很远。

Although Brazil is surprisingly far.

Speaker 2

在地图上看它好像很近,但地图的投影实际上严重扭曲了距离。

It looks like it's close on a map, but the the projection of the map actually really skews things.

Speaker 2

从芝加哥到圣保罗要飞十个小时半。

It's a ten and a half hour flight from Chicago to Sao Paulo.

Speaker 2

并不近。

It's not close.

Speaker 2

一点都不近。

It's not close at all.

Speaker 2

就像是绕地球一圈,但在南边,你知道的。

It's like around the world, but on the South, you know.

Speaker 1

这很令人惊讶。

That is surprising.

Speaker 1

当我从球体的角度思考空间时。

Like when I think spatially on a globe.

Speaker 1

是的,这真的很令人震惊。

Yeah, that's that's shocking.

Speaker 1

哇。

Wow.

Speaker 1

你自从那以后回过新加坡吗?

Have you been back to Singapore since?

Speaker 2

没有,我没回去过。

No, I haven't.

Speaker 2

我还没有去过东南亚。

I haven't been to Southeast Asia.

Speaker 2

真的,自从那以后我根本没去过亚洲。

Really, I haven't been to Asia at all since.

Speaker 2

在过去大约八年里,我主要待在拉丁美洲,可能也去过一些欧洲国家。

I've really mostly just been in Latin America in the last, you know, eight years, maybe Europe too.

Speaker 2

但我真的很想回去。

But I would love to go back.

Speaker 2

我上过的那所学校是一所非常优秀的国际学校,我现在还认识那里的几位老师。

And I really the school I went to was a very good school internationally, and I know a few teachers there now.

Speaker 2

所以我很希望有一天能回到那里工作,以教师的身份再次体验那种生活。

So I would love to go work there again one day and, like, have that that experience, but as a teacher.

Speaker 1

这真是一次非常启发人心且有趣的对话。

Well, has been so enlightening and so interesting.

Speaker 1

拉切尔,非常感谢你抽出时间参与这次对话,为我们揭示了巴西的生活和TPT的情况。

Rachel, thank you so much for taking the time to do this and shedding light on life and TPT in Brazil.

Speaker 2

是的,非常感谢你邀请我。

Yeah, thanks so much for having me.
