Bernice is back to school, and she can't wait to tell Papa Bear about her day.

她跟库奇聊完天后，就飞快地跑进厨房，一边吃饼干喝牛奶，一边跟爸爸聊天。

After she chats with Cookie, she races to the kitchen to have cookies and milk and talk to Papa.

伯尼斯回学校了。

Bernice is back to school.

And this time, I promise I'll bring your book.

我真的真的不会再忘了，伯尼斯喊着，跳下校车的最后一级台阶。

I really, really won't forget again, Bernice called, hopping down the last step of the school bus.

她把背包紧紧抱在胸前，好像它会自己跑掉似的，然后咧嘴一笑，转过身来。

She clutched her backpack tightly against her chest as if it might run away without her, then spun around with a grin.

Okay.

回头见，鳄鱼，伊森大声回应道。

See you later, alligator, Ethan shouted back.

过会儿见，短吻鳄，伯尼斯笑着，跑上她小房子的前台阶。

After a while, crocodile, Bernice laughed, racing up the front steps of her small house.

她猛地推开门，跳了进去，然后迅速把门关上。

She flung the door open, leapt inside, and shut it quickly behind her.

冷风刺痛了她的皮毛，但真正重要的是把温暖的巧克力香味留在屋里。

The chilly air nipped at her fur, but what really mattered was keeping the warm chocolatey smell inside.

Whatever Papa was baking, it was definitely yummy delicious.

Papa, Cookie, I'm home, and you know I must be super hungry because what I smell is definitely yummy delicious.

I can't wait to hear all about your day, little bear, Papa Bear said in his really deep voice.

我们的点心刚出炉，我还倒了些新鲜牛奶来配着吃。

Our treats just came out of the oven, and I've poured some fresh milk to go with them.

伯尼斯坐下来脱掉运动鞋。

Bernice sat down to take off her sneakers.

她一直在练习站着脱鞋。

She'd been practicing doing it while standing up.

这比她想象的要难。

It was harder than she thought.

但坐着让她有时间和她最好的朋友库奇聊天，库奇已经喵喵叫着蹦跶到走廊里了。

But sitting gave her time to talk to her bestest friend, Cookie, who had already pranced into the hallway with a big meow.

Hi Cookie, did you miss me today?

This was only my second full day of school and I already missed you.

我猜你也想我了，因为我们平时白天经常见面。

I bet you missed me too because we usually see each other a lot during the day.

Cookie patted closer, lopped onto her back, and started purring as Bernice rubbed her belly.

伯尼斯接着说：“我猜你会喜欢学校的。”

I bet you'd like school, Bernice went on.

那里有很多东西可以学，你还能交到很多朋友。

There's so much to learn, and you could make lots of friends.

但如果有凶狗的话，可能就不一定了。

But maybe not if there were mean dogs there.

You probably wouldn't like that.

Cookie purred louder, stretching her paws, trying no doubt to get a better belly rub.

So today, we went through all our classes except art and gym.

这个夏天我画画没画够，不过我跑了很多步，还骑了车、游了泳。

I didn't do as much art this summer as I wanted, but I did run a lot and bike and swim.

我想让体育老师看看我跑得快多了，说不定还能在跑道上赢过鲍比。

I wanted to show the gym teacher how much faster I've gotten and maybe beat Bobby on the track.

有时候，试着赢一把也挺有意思的。

Sometimes it's fun to try and win.

她凑近库奇。

She leaned closer to Cookie.

哦，我感觉肚子开始咕咕叫了。

Oh, and I think I feel my tummy starting to rumble.

别担心。

Don't worry.

不是打雷。

It's not a thunderstorm.

我知道你有多讨厌那些声音。

I know how much you hate those.

但有时候我的肚子发出的声音听起来就像打雷一样。

But sometimes my tummy noises sound just like one.

伯尼斯站起来，把运动鞋整齐地放好，轻轻挠了挠库奇的耳后，然后径直跑进了厨房。

Bernice got up, put her sneakers away nicely, gave Cookie a rub behind the ears, and ran straight into the kitchen.

那是她家最好的房间。

The best room in her house.

嗨，爸爸。

Hi, Papa.

伯尼斯一边夸张地嗅着空气，一边大步走进厨房，宣布道：“我就知道你做了巧克力曲奇。”

I just know you made chocolate chip cookies, Bernice announced, sniffing dramatically as she marched into the kitchen.

她指着自己的鼻子。

She pointed at her nose.

我的鼻子很灵，能分辨出各种气味。

I have a great nose, and I can tell what smells like what.

Does that make sense?

总之，我感觉我好几天甚至好几个星期都没吃饼干了。

Anyway, I feel like I haven't had cookies in days or maybe weeks.

You're correct, little bear.

It is chocolate chip, Papa Bear chuckled.

But I think you had cookies yesterday.

Why don't you wash your hands and sit down while I get them ready?

Bernice zipped to the sink, scrubbed her hands, then plopped into her chair with a great big thump.

她拍了拍屁股底下的恐龙坐垫。

She patted the dinosaur cushion under her.

她赶紧说：“还是最棒的坐垫。”然后扭了扭身子坐好。

Still the best cushion ever, she said quickly, before wiggling into place.

熊爸爸把饼干和饮料端了过来。

Papa Bear brought over the cookies and their drinks.

饼干还热乎乎的，几乎能看到盘子上冒出的热气。

The cookies were still so warm that you could almost see steam curl up from the plate.

猫咪“饼干”跳上旁边的椅子，满怀期待地嗅着。

Cookie the cat hopped onto a chair nearby, sniffing hopefully.

熊爸爸还没坐稳，伯尼斯就抓起了一块饼干。

Bernice grabbed a cookie before Papa even finished sitting.

好吃。

Yummy.

真美味。

Delicious.

她嘴里还塞着半块饼干，含糊不清地说。

She said, talking with her mouth half full.

而且它们还是热的，看好了。

And since they're still warm, watch this.

她把饼干往牛奶里一蘸，溅起水花。

She dunked it into her milk with a splash.

现在味道完全不一样了。

Now it's like a whole new taste.

熊爸爸一边吹着热茶，一边笑了。

Papa Bear smiled as he blew on his hot tea.

为什么今天在家只有饼干吃？

Why at house today with just cookie here?

Tell me all about your second day of school.

伯尼斯长长地吸了一口牛奶，嘴边留下了一圈奶胡子。

Bernice took a long slurp of milk leaving a mustache.

她用手背擦了擦，咧嘴笑了。

She wiped it with the back of her hand grinning.

Okay.

所以今天过得很好。

So it was a great day.

格特鲁德很喜欢我新买的带饼干图案的连帽衫。

Gertrude loved my new hoodie with cookies on it.

她说那些饼干看起来好吃得让人想咬一口。

She said they looked tasty enough to eat.

我几乎所有的课都上了，除了美术和体育，这太可惜了，因为我想让体育老师看看我现在跑得快多了。

I had almost all my classes except art and gym, which is too bad because I wanted to show the gym teacher how much faster I am now.

今年我能跑赢博比。

I could beat Bobby this year.

She dunked another cookie, crumbs floating in the milk.

不过数学太简单了。

Math was too easy though.

Bobby and I are kind of advanced, I guess.

But I don't think there are extra math classes or clubs, which is, kinda bad, I guess.

Suddenly, she sat up straighter.

Oh, papa.

You'll never guess, so I'll just tell you.

她探身越过桌子，下巴上还沾着饼干屑。

She leaned across the table, cookie crumbs on her chin.

鲍比剪了个新发型。

Bobby got a haircut.

叫“迅猛龙”发型。

It's called the raptor cut.

他说这会是下一个大潮流。

He says it's going to be the next big trend.

两边剪得很短，头顶留得比较长。

It's really short on the sides and longer on the top.

说实话，她歪着头想了想，看起来有点像恐龙的样子。

Honestly, she tilted her head thinking, it looks kind of dinosaur y.

还不错，就是有点不一样。

Not bad, just different.

但他自己喜欢，我觉得这才是最重要的，对吧？

But he likes it and I guess that's what matters, right?

也许这表示他又迷上恐龙了。

Maybe it means he's back into dinosaurs again.

He changes his mind all the time.

Papa Bear chuckled.

That Bobby.

我真想听听他是怎么说服他妈妈让他尝试这么大胆的发型的。

I can't wait to hear how he convinced his mom to let him try something so wild.

But I'm glad he can express himself in his own way.

He's pretty cool, I guess.

Anyway, Bobby and I and a few other kids are in this special science class.

I think it'll be after school.

We get to do extra experiments and harder topics and stuff.

The teacher met with us today and you wouldn't believe what we learned.

Well, our heads, we have our own message system.

It's called neurons.

They're like teeny tiny little messengers that send signals to each other all the time.

And get this, it uses electricity and chemicals to do it.

That sounds pretty interesting, little bear, Papa Bear said sipping his tea.

Oh, and Papa, I also learned something new in French class today.

What did you learn?

是不是学会了说“我是土豆”啊？

Was it how to say Je suis en pommes de terre?

熊爸爸笑着问道。

Papa Bear asked with a chuckle.

伯尼斯忍不住大笑起来。

Bernice burst out laughing.

没有，但我确实跟老师说了那句话，她笑了，还夸了我。

No, but I did say that to the teacher and she laughed and congratulated me.

What I really learned was how to say Je Mapel Bernice.

That's great, little bear.

That's not all, Papa.

她还教了我一句特别重要的话。

She also taught me to say something super important.

因为我真的很喜欢巧克力曲奇饼干。

Because I really do love chocolate chip cookies.

熊爸爸笑了。

Papa Bear smiled.

Bernice dunked the last bite of her cookie into her milk before adding, oh, and Papa, we started sharing lunches again today.

One kid brought a smoothie, but he couldn't really share that, you know.

还有奥利弗，他是我们班新来的，他带了那种里面夹着奶酪的小面包。

And Oliver, he's new in our class, he brought these little bread things with cheese inside.

He said they were called pocket pizzas.

我没尝，但鲍比尝了，说特别好吃。

I didn't try them, but Bobby did and said they were amazing.

我觉得能把披萨装在口袋里，这主意简直太棒了。

I think being able to carry pizza in your pocket is the greatest idea ever.

我会选菠萝披萨，或者就芝士的也行。

I'd take pineapple pizza or maybe just cheese.

格特鲁德跟我分享了她的豆子沙拉。

Gertrude shared her bean salad with me.

她里面放了那种紫洋葱。

She puts these purple onions in it.

她特别爱吃，但我吃了得直扇舌头。

She loves them, but I had to fan my tongue.

太辣了。

It was so spicy.

熊爸爸笑了。

Papa Bear laughed.

生洋葱确实可能有点辣，但我也很喜欢豆子沙拉。

Raw onion can seem spicy, but I love bean salad too.

也许这周我们可以做一次。

Maybe we'll make some this week.

好的，爸爸，但我的那份可以不放紫洋葱吗？或者只放一两片也行？

Okay, Papa, but can I have mine without purple onions Or maybe just one or two?

我觉得这种味道我得慢慢适应。

I think it's a taste I'll have to, you know, slowly acquire.

Papa Bear chuckled.

Sometimes that's exactly how it works with new tastes.

It sounds like you had a wonderful second day at school.

Yeah, it was good.

But I'm a little disappointed we didn't have art or gym.

I think that starts next week.

I was ready to show the gym teacher how fast I've gotten this summer.

Papa Bear lowered his voice and put on a mock, serious face.

Did you get any homework?

伯尼斯夸张地喝了一口牛奶，摇了摇头。

Bernice took a dramatic sip of milk and shook her head.

你信吗，爸爸？

Can you believe it, Papa?

这才开学第二天，科学老师就布置作业了。

It's only the second day of school, and my science teacher already gave homework.

我得读更多关于神经元和大脑传递信息的内容，不过我觉得应该会很有趣。

I have to read more about neurons and all that brain messaging stuff, but I think it'll be fun.

哇。

Wow.

“好吧，那你先开始做作业，我去看看晚饭吃什么。”熊爸爸说着从桌边站起来。

Well, why don't you start that while I see what we might have for dinner, Papa Bear said as he stood up from the table.

伯尼斯笑着向前倾了倾身子。

Bernice leaned forward with a grin.

Do you know what helps me read science best?

饼干。

Cookies.

你觉得我能再吃一块吗？

Do you think I could have just one more?

熊爸爸轻声笑了笑。

Papa Bear chuckled.

当然可以。

You sure can.

They're super yummy delicious.

完成科学作业、吃完意大利面晚餐、和熊妈妈一起读书之后，伯尼斯上楼开始她的睡前准备。

After finishing her science homework, enjoying spaghetti for dinner, and reading with Mama Bear, Bernice went upstairs to begin her bedtime routine.

她泡了个泡泡浴，刷了牙，和妈妈一起做了些瑜伽拉伸，还准备好了第二天要穿的衣服。

She took a bubble bath, brushed her teeth, did some yoga stretches with Mama, and laid out the clothes she was going to wear the next day.

然后，她按照自己喜欢的方式调暗了床头灯，再仔细地把她的睡前伙伴们摆放好。

Then she dimmed her bedside lamp just the way she liked it at bedtime before carefully arranging her bedtime friends just so.

Finally, she crawled under the covers and called out, it's that time, papa.

And what time is that, little bear?

Papa Bear called back from the kitchen, where the smell of fresh bread drifted up the stairs.

It's time for a bedtime story.

But before Papa Bear could thunder up the steps, Cookie padded in and curled up beside her purring softly.

I'm coming, boomed Papa Bear, and the house gave a gentle shake.

他的脚步声在夜里总是显得很重。

His footsteps always sounded heavy at night.

When he reached the top of the stairs, the warm scent of bread followed him into Bernice's room.

He peeked in and asked, are you still awake?

我是爸爸，曲奇、小枝、小狼和玛德琳也都准备好了。

I am Papa, and Cookie, Twigga, Wolfie, and Madeline are all ready too.

“我们想要一个超长的故事，”伯尼斯打着哈欠说。

We want a super long story, Bernice said with a yawn.

熊爸爸轻声笑了。

Papa Bear chuckled.

“那讲个短一点的怎么样？”

How about a short one instead?

Tomorrow's another exciting day at school, and you'll want to be the best version of your best self.

伯尼斯又打了个哈欠，眼皮已经开始打架了。

Bernice yawned again, her eyes already drooping.

Are you comfy?

Yes, Papa.

I think she knows it's school time again, and that we're back to our school time routine.

Once upon a time in a world full of magic and fun, there lived a brave little bear named Boo Boo.

她住在一座大城堡里，城堡坐落在神秘森林的边缘。

She lived in a large castle at the edge of a mystical forest.

在这片森林里，有独角兽、仙女、小矮人，还有各种各样的昆虫、鸟类和动物。

And in this forest, there were unicorns, fairies, gnomes, and all manner of insects, birds, and animals.

It was a wonderful place.

Her best friend was a young dragon called Kai Kai, and the two of them loved to play as much as they could.

The kingdom they lived in was full of people, some in the meadows, some in the hills, and others in the deep forest, and they all lived in harmony.

Kai Kai's voice tumbled out of the sky, followed by snapping branches and a very loud thump.

布布从书本上抬起头，正好看到巧克力糖果从天上落下来。

Boo Boo looked up from her book just in time to see chocolate treats raining down from above.

一块巧克力蛋糕弹到了她的鼻子上，三滴巧克力溅进了她的茶杯里，溅起小小的水花。

A chocolate cake bounced off her nose, and three chocolate drops plopped into her teacup with tiny splashes.

凯凯，她笑着跳起来，这时她的龙朋友从苹果树上挣脱出来，翅膀疯狂地拍打着。

Kai Kai, she laughed, jumping up as her dragon friend untangled himself from the apple tree, wings flapping wildly.

你没事吧？

Are you okay?

我没事。

I'm fine.

我没事，凯凯喊道，虽然他的声音被树叶闷住了。

I'm fine, Kai Kai called, though his voice was muffled by leaves.

I brought treats for our tea party, but, they're kind of everywhere now.

Boo Boo giggled, scooping chocolate drops from the grass.

Hey, I only knocked over one flower pot.

那算进步了，凯凯笑着说，一边从角上取下一个篮子。

That's improvement, Kai Kai grinned, tugging a basket off his horn.

园丁不会生气吧？

The gardener won't be mad, will he?

他在花园另一边干活呢，布布安慰道，一边拍掉一块有点压扁的饼干上的土。

He's off working in another part of the garden, Boo assured him, brushing dirt from a slightly squished cookie.

他知道乱糟糟的降落是难免的。

He knows messy landings happen.

他们坐在花园桌旁，巧克力还散落一地，布布挥着一张精美的羊皮纸。

They sat down at the garden table, chocolates still scattered around, and Boo Boo waved a fancy parchment.

My academy letter.

凯凯兴奋得跳起来，茶杯都叮当响。

Haikai bounced so hard the teacups rattled.

Boo Boo tore open the seal.

I got into Professor Bramble's after school magical botany class.

我们可以种会唱歌的花。

We get to grow singing flowers.

太棒了！凯凯欢呼道。

That's amazing, Kai Kai cheered.

Then his face drooped.

But I can't come.

I have to go to Dragon Heritage School twice a week.

Kai Kai groaned.

Plus formation flying with other dragons.

It sounds exciting but I'll miss having lunch and study time with you.

Never, Boo Boo said firmly, though her own voice wavered.
