Goldilocks and the Three Bears.

从前，有一个小女孩叫金发姑娘，她住在一座长满树木的山附近。

Once upon a time, there was a little girl named Goldilocks, and she lived near a forest covered mountain.

山坡的树林里开满了美丽的鲜花，金发姑娘很喜欢去采这些花。

Many pretty flowers grew in the woods on the mountain side, and Goldilocks liked to gather them.

通常她不会为采花走得太远，但有一天，她东采一朵西采一朵，越走越远，不知不觉就走进了一片她从未到过的森林深处。

Usually she did not go far from home after the flowers, but one day she rambled on and on, picking blossoms here and there, until she was much deeper in the woods than she had ever been before.

“我现在必须回去了，”金发姑娘最后说。

Now I must go back, said Goldilocks at last.

“我本来没想到会走这么远，现在我累了，肚子也饿了。”

I didn't intend to come such a long way, and I'm tired and hungry.

就在这时，她抬头看了看前方那条她误入的僻静山谷，只见树丛中有一座小屋，那间小屋是她见过的最漂亮的小房子。

Just then she looked on ahead up the lonely hollow into which she had wandered, and there among the trees was as nice a little house as she had ever seen.

我不知道这林子里还住着人，金发姑娘说。

I didn't know anyone lived here in the woods, said Goldilocks.

我去看看这是谁的家。

I'll go and find out whose house it is.

于是她跑到门口敲了敲门，但没人回应。

So she ran up to the door and rapped, but she got no response.

她说，这房子的主人应该不会走远，因为我看到烟囱里有烟冒出来。

Well, said she, the people that belong to this house can't be far away, for I saw smoke coming out of the chimney.

我想如果门没锁的话，我可以进去看看。

I suppose I might step in if the door isn't locked.

她拉开门闩，门没有锁，于是她走了进去，四处看了看。

She lifted the latch, and the door was not locked, so she went in and looked about.

她发现自己所在的房间是厨房，壁炉里烧着火，桌上放着三碗粥，一个大碗，一个中碗，还有一个小碗。

The room in which she found herself was the kitchen, and a fire was burning in the fireplace, and on a table were three bowls of porridge, a big bowl, and a medium sized bowl, and a little bowl.

金发姑娘说，住在这里的人已经摆好了桌子准备吃饭了，我想。

The people that live here have set the table for dinner, I think, said Goldilocks.

哦，我真是饿坏了！

Oh, how hungry I am!

我在想，他们会不会介意我趁他们还没回来，先吃点粥呢？

I wonder if they would care if I ate some of their porridge without waiting till they came back.

不管了，我先尝尝再说。

I will taste, anyway.

于是她走到桌边，从大碗里舀了一勺粥。

So she went to the table and took a spoonful of porridge from the big bowl.

这粥太烫了，她说。

This is too hot, she said.

我试试下一碗。

I will try the next.

然后她又从中号碗里舀了一勺粥。

Then she took a spoonful of porridge from the middle sized bowl.

这碗没有那碗那么烫，但还是比我喜欢的要烫。

This is not so hot as the other, but it is hotter than I like.

我再试试下一个。

I will try the next.

然后她从小碗里舀了一勺粥，那碗粥刚刚好，她全吃光了。

Then she took a spoonful of porridge from the little bowl, and that was just right, and she ate it all.

金发姑娘说：“现在我真希望能找个舒服的椅子坐下来休息一会儿。”

Now I wish I could go sit down to rest for a while, in a good easy chair, said Goldilocks.

我想他们的客厅里应该有舒服的椅子吧。

They would have their easy chairs in the parlor, I suppose.

我进去看看。

I will go look in and see.

于是她走进客厅，发现那里有三把漂亮的摇椅，一把大的，一把中等的，还有一把小的。

So she went into the parlor, and there she found three nice rocking chairs, a big chair, and a middle sized chair, and a little chair.

她试了试那把大椅子，但太高了。

She tried the big chair, but it was too high.

金发姑娘说：“天哪，我的脚都够不着地板。”

Dear me, said Goldilocks, I can't touch my feet to the floor.

我不喜欢这把椅子。

I don't like this chair.

我试试下一把。

I will try the next.

然后她试了试中等大小的椅子。

Then she tried the middle sized chair.

坐那把椅子脚能碰到地，但还是太高了，坐着不太舒服，于是她又试了试小椅子。

She could touch her feet to the floor in that, but it was too high for her to feel entirely comfortable, and she tried the little chair.

那把椅子刚刚好，她开始前后摇晃起来，突然咔嚓一声！

That was just right, and she began rocking back and forth in it, when crack!

椅子碎了。

It smashed.

椅子坏了，金发姑娘摔到了地上。

The chair broke, and Goldilocks tumbled to the floor.

她爬起来说：“那把椅子真不错。”

That was a nice little chair, she said, as she picked herself up.

真可惜，椅子坏了。

I am sorry it is broken.

我刚才在里面坐得可舒服了。

I was having such a good rest in it, too.

其他椅子我都不喜欢，我想躺下来睡个午觉。

I don't care for the other chairs, and I think I would like to lie down and have a nap.

我得去看看床在哪里。

I must see where the beds are.

And now back to the story.

于是她上了楼，走进一个房间，发现那里有三张床：一张大床、一张中号床和一张小床。

So she went upstairs and into a chamber, and here she found three beds, a big bed, and a middle sized bed, and a little bed.

她先试了最大的床，但太硬了。

She tried the largest bed, but it was too hard.

然后她又试了中等大小的床，虽然比大床软一些，但对金发姑娘来说还是不够软。

Then she tried the middle sized bed, and that was not so hard as the big bed, but it was not soft enough to please Goldilocks.

接着她试了小床，那张床刚刚好，她躺上去，盖好被子，很快就睡着了。

Then she tried the little bed, and that was just right, and she lay down on it and covered herself up and fell fast asleep.

金发姑娘进的这栋房子是三只熊的家，一只大熊，一只中等大小的熊，还有一只小熊。

Now the house that Goldilocks was in belonged to three bears, a big bear, a middle sized bear, and a little bear.

就在金发姑娘敲门前不久，他们煮好了粥当晚餐，摆在桌上。

Shortly before Goldilocks wrapped at their door, they had cooked their porridge for dinner and set it on the table.

然后他们出去散了一会儿步，好让粥凉一凉。

Then they had gone out for a little walk to give the porridge time to cool.

金发姑娘睡着的时候，熊一家回来了。

While Goldilocks was asleep, the Bears came home.

他们一进厨房看到餐桌，就发现东西跟他们离开时不一样了。

As soon as they entered the kitchen and looked at the table, they saw that things were not as they had left them.

有人尝过我的粥了，

Somebody has been tasting my porridge,

大熊用他那低沉粗哑的声音咆哮道。

growled the big Bear in his great, gruff voice.

也有人尝过我的粥了，中号熊说道。

And somebody has been tasting my porridge, said the middle sized Bear.

还有人尝过我的粥，而且全吃光了，小熊尖声说道。

And somebody has been tasting my porridge, and eaten it all up, piped the little Bear.

他们说，我们四处看看，还有没有别的被动过。

We will look around, said they, and see if there has been any more meddling.

然后他们走进了客厅。

Then they went into the parlor.

有人坐过我的椅子了，

Somebody has been sitting in my chair,

大熊用他那低沉粗哑的声音咆哮道。

growled the big bear in his great gruff voice.

中号熊说：也有人坐过我的椅子。

And somebody has been sitting in my chair, said the middle sized bear.

小熊尖声说：也有人坐过我的椅子，而且把它坐坏了。

And somebody has been sitting in my chair and broken in all the pieces, piped the little bear.

然后他们上楼去了卧室。

Then they went upstairs to the chamber.

大熊用低沉粗哑的声音吼道：有人弄乱了我的床。

Somebody has been tumbling my bed,

大熊用低沉粗哑的声音吼道。

growled the big Bear in his great gruff voice.

中号熊说：也有人弄乱了我的床。

And somebody has been tumbling my bed, said the middle sized Bear.

小熊尖声说：也有人弄乱了我的床，她就在这里。

And somebody has been tumbling my bed, and here she is, piped the little Bear.

金发姑娘这时醒了，在三只熊抓住她之前，她溜下床，连滚带爬地下了楼梯，跑出了门。

Goldilocks woke up just then, and before the Three Bears could catch her she slipped from the bed and scrambled down the stairs and out of the door.

然后她拼命跑回家，跑得飞快，从此再也没靠近过三只熊的房子。

Then she ran home as fast as her legs could carry her, and she never went near the Three Bears' house again.
