Loki and the Golden Hair.

很久以前，在阿斯加德——众神与女神的北欧王国——举行了一场盛大的婚礼。

Once upon a time in Asgard, the Norse kingdom of the gods and goddesses, there was a great wedding.

雷神索尔娶了生长女神西芙。

Thor, the god of thunder, married Sith, the goddess of growth.

这对夫妻的结合让很多人感到意外，因为他们实在太不一样了。

The marriage surprised many as the pair were such opposites.

索尔喜欢风暴、宴饮和战斗。

Thor liked storms and feasting and fighting.

他最开心的时候就是手里握着战锤，面前站着敌人，靠着自己的肌肉力量和闪电般的速度生活。

He was happiest with a warhammer in his hand and a foe before him, living by the might of his muscles and the sight of his lightning.

而西芙则热爱生命和成长。

Sif, on the other hand, loved life and growth.

她是掌管植物生长、孕育新生命以及家庭兴旺的女神。

She was the goddess of growing plants and growing babies and growing families.

托尔负责破坏，而她负责创造。

Where Thor destroyed, she created.

但在古老的阿斯加德，似乎异性相吸的道理自古如此。

But even in ancient Asgard, it seems that opposites attract.

雷神索尔大吼道：让天空为我的新娘展示爱意吧，于是绚丽的闪电在天际翩翩起舞。

Let the heaven show their love for my bride, Thor bellowed, and a beautiful display of lightning danced on the horizon.

西芙说道：让大地为我的丈夫展示爱意吧。

And let the earth show its love for my husband, Sif said.

紧接着，索尔身旁长出了一棵巨大的山茱萸树。

And next to Thor grew a mighty Rowan tree.

所有的神祇似乎都对这场婚姻感到高兴。

All the gods and goddesses seemed to be happy about the marriage.

唯独洛基，那个诡计之神，不这么想。

All but Loki, the trickster god.

洛基身材瘦削，心思狡猾，长着一张狡黠的脸，最爱干的事就是恶作剧。

Loki was slender and cunning with a weaselly face, and his favorite thing in the world was pulling pranks.

他总爱偷走托尔的东西，或者变成动物去吓唬别人。

He was always stealing things from Thor or changing into animals and scaring people.

这把其他人气得够呛，可又拿他没办法。

It drove the others crazy, but there was nothing they could do.

大多数爱恶作剧的人都喜欢成为焦点，洛基也不例外。

Now most pranksters live to be the center of attention, and Loki was no exception.

只要有人在议论他，哪怕说得不好听，他也开心。

He loved when people were talking about him even if they weren't saying anything nice.

托尔和西芙结婚后，大家聊的全是新娘，尤其是她的头发。

After Thor and Sif's wedding, though, all anyone was talking about was the bride, especially her hair.

西芙的头发又长又顺，颜色像成熟的小麦一样金黄，仿佛随时可以收割。

Sif had hair that was long, flowing, and the natural gold of ripe wheat, ready to be harvested.

每年她都会用一把特制的梳子梳理头发，而每当这时，大地上所有的麦子都会从绿色变成金黄色。

Once a year, she would brush it out with a special comb, and on earth, all of the wheat would turn from green to gold.

农民们收割麦子，磨成面粉，做成面包、蛋糕，还有各种美食，而西芙则微笑着俯视他们，她的头发也因此更加闪耀。

The farmers would harvest it and make flour and bread and cake and all the rest, and Sif would smile down at them, her hair shining all the brighter.

And the day she married Thor, her hair was so bright and golden that Odin, the father of all, proclaimed it more fair than the sun.

Loki sat in a corner and stewed, his jealousy souring his stomach like spoiled milk.

几天后的一个晚上，他施展魔法，变成一只鸟，飞进了阿斯加德的索尔和西芙的家。

A few nights later, he used his magic to transform into a bird and fly into Sifan Thor's home in Asgard.

两人睡得正香，雷神的鼾声在屋里回荡，像一头愤怒的熊在咆哮。

They were sound asleep, the thunder god's snores echoing through the home like an angry bear's.

洛基扑进他们的卧室，然后变回了原形。

Loki flapped into their bedroom and then slipped back into his own body.

西芙那头金发散落在枕头上，随着索尔的呼吸轻轻起伏。

Sif's golden hair was splayed across her pillow, stirring slightly in the breeze of Thor's breath.

哦，你这小宝贝，还真够招人注意的。

Oh, little center of attention, are we?

洛基低声嘀咕着，从口袋里掏出一把剪刀。

Loki whispered to himself, pulling scissors from his pocket.

我倒要看看，你光着头的时候，还怎么受人追捧。

Let's see how you like all the stares when you're bald.

剪刀咔嚓、咔嚓、咔嚓，一根根金发被他悄悄剪下，从她头上消失。

His scissors went snip, snip, snip, and golden strand by golden strand, Sif's hair was stolen from her head.

洛基把剪下的头发丢在地上，变回鸟形，飞入了夜色之中。

Loki left it there on the floor, shifted back into a bird, and flew out into the night.

第二天早上，索尔的怒吼传遍了整个阿斯加德。

The next morning, Thor's bellow could be heard all across Asgard.

It shook buildings and shattered stone like an earthquake, and even the celebrated dead in the halls of Valhalla felt his fury.

Your hair, he said to Sif when the initial squall of his anger had passed.

我的头发，西芙虚弱地呻吟道。

My hair, Sif moaned weakly.

有人趁我不注意剪了我的头发。

Someone cut my hair without my hair.

Oh.

她努力想从床上坐起来，却怎么也起不来。

She struggled to rise from bed and couldn't.

女神的力量都藏在她的金发里，没了头发，她感觉像得了流感一样浑身难受、疲惫不堪。

The goddess's golden locks were where she kept her power, and without them, she felt as sick and tired as if she had the flu.

我会帮你把头发找回来，亲爱的，索尔说。

I'll get you your hair, my love, Thor said.

谢谢你。

Thank you.

哦，求你快点。

Oh, please hurry.

西芙咳嗽起来。

Sif coughed.

像一场夏日雷雨，索尔从家中疾驰到奥丁的殿堂——那是所有北欧神祇之父的居所。

Like a summer storm, Thor blew from his home to the halls of Odin, who is the father of all the Norse gods and goddesses.

父亲！

Father, roared Thor.

父亲，有人剪了西芙的头发。

Father, someone has cut Sif's hair.

哦，这是怎么回事？

Oh, what is this?

奥丁从王座上跳了起来。

Said Odin, springing from his throne.

这不可能。

This cannot be.

众神之父冲到他的魔法窗前，俯视着人间。

The all father rushed to his magic window that looked down on Earth.

他看到的情景让他的脸瞬间涨红，怒火甚至比索尔还要猛烈。

What he saw there made his face twist red with a fury that rivaled Thor's.

什么，父亲？

What, father?

你看到了什么？

What have you seen?

西芙的头发原本连着麦田和植物。

Sif's hair connected to the wheat, to the plants.

现在头发被剪了，大地上寸草不生，人类就要饿死了。

Now that it's been cut, nothing is growing on Earth, and the humans will starve.

太过分了！

Outrageous, bellowed Thor.

谁干的？

Who would do this?

谁敢这么做？

Who would dare?

两位神祇对视了一眼。

The two gods looked at each other.

洛基，他们齐声怒吼。

Loki, they roared together.

很快，奥丁的卫兵就把这个诡计之神押进了瓦尔哈拉的殿堂。

Soon enough, Odin's guards wrestled the trickster god into the throne room in Valhalla.

数百名战士眼睁睁看着洛基被拖过整个大厅，然后随手扔在托尔和他父亲面前。

Hundreds of warriors watched as Loki was dragged the length of the hall and then dumped unceremoniously in front of Thor and his father.

哦，你们是想见我？

Oh, you wanted to see me?

洛基说，哪怕身陷困境，他还是老样子，满嘴玩笑。

Loki said, always joking even when he was in trouble.

真的吗，托尔？

Really, Thor?

你直接发个邀请不就行了。

You could just send an invitation.

别贫了，索尔怒吼道，愤怒的唾沫星子从他的嘴唇上飞溅出来。

Enough of your jokes, Thor snarled, angry spit flecking from his angry lips.

我要把你揍扁。

I'm going to smash you for this.

放马过来吧，洛基回道。

Give me your best shot, Loki replied.

我还没被人拿大话糊弄过呢。

I've never been hit by a big bag of hot air before.

你这不知天高地厚的小子。

You insolent little.

奥丁伸出手，拦住了正准备把洛基揍得找不着北的索尔。

Odin put out his hand and stopped Thor from knocking Loki into next week.

这事可没那么简单，洛丁说。

This is serious, Loki, he said.

我们知道，剪掉西芙头发的人就是你。

We know you're the one who cut Sif's hair.

我？

Me?

我最后一次确认的时候，可不是我干的。

Last I checked.

我又不是理发师。

I'm no barber.

洛基，我是众神之父，我知道你干了什么。

Loki, I am the all father, and I know what you did.

听好了。

Now listen.

没了头发，西芙就无法让地球上的植物生长。

Without her hair, Sif can't make the plants grow on Earth.

人类的世界已经变得荒芜而寒冷。

The human world is barren and cold.

他们会饿死的。

They will starve and die.

听到这儿，洛基脸色也微微变了。

At this, even Loki paled a little.

嗯，我也不希望这样，他承认道。

Well, I'd hate that, he admitted.

要是人类都死了，我就没法再捉弄他们了。

If the humans died, I couldn't play pranks on them anymore.

That's what you're worried about?

托尔大吼一声，再次举起了他的战锤。

Bellowed Thor, raising his war hammer again.

够了，奥丁说道，周身散发出强大的力量。

Enough, said Odin, and he radiated power.

洛基，你必须马上把这事解决掉。

Loki, you have to fix this right now.

你怎么弄我都无所谓。

I don't care how you do it.

I don't care what it takes.

You fix what you have done.

Perhaps, said Loki.

Perhaps I could glue it back on.

Thor growled.

No more fighting, Odin said.

Loki, go and fix this.

索尔，回家去照顾西斯。

Thor, go home and take care of Sith.

But, said Loki.

But, said Thor.

别跟我扯这些，奥丁怒吼道。

No buts, roared Odin.

现在就走。

Go now.

索尔怒气冲冲地回了家，洛基则退回到自己的殿堂。

Thor stormed home, and Loki retreated to his own hall.

我该怎么办？

What do I do?

那个狡猾的家伙一边来回踱步，一边低声嘀咕。

The trickster muttered to himself, pacing back and forth.

头发已经剪掉了。

The hair was already cut.

再也回不去了。

There was no putting it back.

他得想办法重新弄一顶，可怎么才能替得上西芙那头如流水般的金发呢？

He'd have to replace it, but how could he replace such a treasure as Sif's flowing golden locks?

这很简单。

It was simple.

他办不到，但他知道谁可以。

He couldn't, but he knew who could.

在世界深处，有一片永无止境的熔岩隧道，矮人就住在那里。

Deep below the surface of the world in an endless maze of fiery tunnels lived the dwarves.

他们是顶尖的工匠，能把金属打造成魔法，洛基知道，如果有人能修复西芙的头发，非他们莫属。

They were master craftsmen, able to shape metal into magic, and Loki knew that if anyone could fix Sif's hair, it had to be them.

尤其是伊瓦尔迪的儿子们，他们以黄金工艺闻名于世。

Specifically, a family named the sons of Ivaldi were legendary for their working of gold.

洛基化身为鼹鼠，一路钻入地底，越来越深，终于找到了矮人的居所——斯卡德阿尔海姆。

The trickster transformed into a mole and burrowed into the earth deeper and deeper until he found the home of the dwarves called Skardalfheim.

他们热情地接待了他，因为他们知道洛基来自阿斯加德，却不知他最爱恶作剧。

They greeted him warmly for they knew Loki was from Asgard, but they didn't know about his love of mischief.

哦，你好啊，朋友，他们用带着胡须的清亮嗓音欢快地说道。

Oh, hello, friend, they said cheerily in their little bearded voices.

是什么风把你吹到我们这儿来了？

Oh, what has brought you to our realm?

我的朋友们，洛基说道，露出了一个夸张的假笑。

My friends, said Loki, giving a wide fake smile.

我在找那些被称为伊瓦尔迪之子的矮人。

I'm looking for the dwarves known as the sons of Ivaldi.

我听说他们是技艺最精湛的工匠。

I've heard they're the finest craftsmen.

矮人们点了点头，带着洛基穿过隧道，路过盛满苍白白色鱼类的地下湖泊，还有像窗帘一样在他们走过时向两侧分开的熔岩流墙。

The dwarves nodded and led Loki through tunnels, passing by underground lakes of pale white fish and flowing walls of lava that parted like curtains as they walked through.

最后，他们来到一个巨大的锻造炉前，看到几个身材魁梧、面色红润的矮人正在干活。

Finally, they came to a great forge where a handful of burly, ruddy dwarves were working.

伊瓦尔德之子们，洛基喊道。

Sons of Ivaldi, Loki cried.

看看你们干活的样子。

Look at you working.

真的，你们完全配得上我听到的那些传说。

Truly, you live up to the stories I've heard.

洛基这一招可真够狡猾的，因为这些矮人对自己的手艺极其自豪，特别吃这套恭维话。

This was a cunning start from Loki as the dwarves are very, very proud of their work and are easily swayed by compliments and flattery.

没错。

Yeah.

确实如此，”其中一个矮人闷声说道。

It's true, grunted one of the sons.

在阿斯加德、在人间，甚至在其他任何地方，都找不到比我们更棒的工匠了。

No finer craftsman in Asgard or Earth or any other realm.

那太好了，”洛基说，“我这儿有奥丁亲自下的订单。

That's good, said Loki, because I have an order from Odin himself.

奥丁？众神之父？

From Odin, the all father?

他们问道。

They asked.

当然了。

Oh, of course.

你们需要什么？

What do you need?

洛基解释说，西芙的金发丢了，地球上的小麦和其他植物都开始枯萎。

Loki explained about Sif losing her golden hair and the wheat and other plants all dying on Earth.

当然，他没提这事儿其实全是他造成的。

Of course, he left out the part about how it was all his fault.

这确实是个紧急情况，”儿子们说着，立刻行动起来。

This is an emergency indeed, said the sons, leaping into action.

你们找对人了。

You've come to the right place.

好了，大家伙儿，

Alright, gang.

咱们开工吧。

Let's get going.

洛基惊呆了，看着伊瓦尔迪的儿子们冲上去忙活起来。

Loki watched, stunned, as the sons of Ivaldi charged to work.

他们拿出了洛基这辈子见过最大的一块纯金，扔进了熔炉——那是个用来熔化金属的结实大锅。

They took the largest piece of pure gold that Loki had ever seen and dropped it into their crucible, which is a sturdy pot for melting metal.

一些矮人拼命拉风箱，让火焰熊熊燃烧；另一些人则把金子倒入炉中，直到它像一盆流动的金色阳光般闪耀。

Some dwarves pumped billows to make the fires roar, and others poured the gold until it flowed like a shining bowl of liquid sun.

他们拉出细长的金丝，不断敲打，金属与黄金碰撞的声音在洞穴里回荡，宛如乐曲。

They pulled long metal strands and hammered until the sound of steel on gold filled the cave like music.

洛基在一旁盯着看，想偷学他们的魔法奥秘，但矮人的魔法实在太深奥，他根本摸不着门道。

Loki watched, trying to learn the secrets of their spells, but the magic of the dwarves was beyond him.

这需要钻研和苦干，而这个爱耍聪明的人从来就不耐烦这些。

It required study and hard work, which the trickster had never much cared for.

但就连他也不得不承认，最终的成果简直超乎想象。

But even he had to admit, the results were beyond belief.

经过一昼夜的劳作，矮人兄弟们捧着一条金发带走到他面前。

After a day and a night of work, the suns came to him holding a golden headband.

那发带薄得惊人，细得吓人，洛基都不敢伸手去碰。

It was so thin and fine, Loki was afraid to touch it.

但当他拿起来时，那头饰却重得像石头一样。

But when he picked it up, it was as solid as stone in his hands.

每一克都蕴含着魔法，”其中一个矮人认真地说。

Magic in every ounce, a son said seriously.

这可能是我们多年来的杰作了。

Maybe our finest work in ages.

你让西芙戴上它，她的头发就会恢复往日的金光闪闪。

You have Sith put this on, and her hair will be as golden as it ever was.

谢谢你们，矮人们，”洛基说道。

Oh, thank you, dwarves, Loki said.

奥丁会欠你们一个人情。

Odin will be in your debt.

众神之父居然会欠我们人情。

The all father owing us a favor.

这听起来可真不错。

Now that sounds good.

洛基拿起金发带，本打算回阿斯加德，却不知不觉停下了脚步。

Loki took the golden headband and prepared to head back to Asgard, but found himself lingering instead.

这些矮人打造的宝物，力量真是非同凡响。

The dwarves made treasures of such power.

这个贪心的小骗子忍不住想，要是能再弄点更好的就好了。

The greedy little trickster couldn't help but want more.

他知道矮人自尊心极强，便四处打听，有没有谁的手艺能超过伊瓦尔迪的儿子们，很快便听说了布罗克和艾崔这对兄弟，他们自称是金属魔法的宗师。

Knowing the dwarves were proud to a fault, he asked around to see if any others could equal the sons of Ivaldi, and soon heard of Broker and Eitri, a pair of brothers who claimed to be the masters of metal magic.

洛基很快找到了他们，拿出伊瓦尔迪儿子们打造的发带给他们看。

Loki soon found them and showed them the headband the sons of Ivaldi had made.

哦，你好啊，他对着两人说道。

Oh, hello there, he said to the pair.

你们瞧瞧，伊瓦尔迪的儿子们为我打造了什么。

Look at what the sons have forged for me.

他们肯定是矮人国度里最顶尖的工匠了。

Surely, they're the best craftsman in all of the dwarven realm.

奥丁一定会重重奖赏他们，胜过其他人。

Odin will be sure to reward them above all others.

布罗克一把抓过头环，翻来覆去地打量着自己那双布满烧伤疤痕的手。

Broker snatched the headband and turned it over in his thick, burn scarred hands.

还行吧。

Meh.

手艺是不错，但跟我和艾特里做的比起来，差远了。

It's good work, but, it's nothing like Eitri and I can make.

是吗？

Is that so?

洛基微笑着问道。

Asked Loki with a smile.

当然是真的！

Oh, it's so, roared Eitri.

给我们一天时间，我们给你打造一件真正的宝物，到时候看看众神之父更喜欢谁。

You give us a day, and we'll make a real treasure for Rodan, and then we'll see who the all father likes best.

哦，既然你这么坚持，”洛基说着，变出一把躺椅，悠然坐了下去。

Oh, well, if you insist, said Loki, magicking himself a lounge chair and settling back.

兄弟俩立刻忙活起来，不一会儿，炉火熊熊，铁锤叮当，各种被施了魔法的奇异金属开始流淌。

The brothers got busy, and soon the fires were roaring and the hammers pounding and strange metals imbued with magic began to flow.

仅仅几个小时后，他们拿着一枚小小的金戒指走到洛基面前。

After just a few hours of work, they came to Loki holding a small golden ring.

是的。

Yeah.

拿着。

Here.

把这个交给奥丁，就当是我们的心意。

Give this to Odin with our, thanks.

一枚金戒指？

A golden ring?

我们叫它‘滴落之环’，你瞧瞧它能干什么，”布罗克说。

We call it drop near, and look what it can do, broker said.

他把戒指放在桌上转了起来。

And then he spun the ring on a table.

戒指旋转时闪出光芒，突然间出现了两个戒指，接着是三个、四个。

It flashed with light as it twirled, and suddenly, there were two rings spinning, and then three and four.

等它停下来的时候，原本的戒指周围已经围着八个新的金戒指了。

And by the time it stopped, there were eight new golden rings spinning around the original.

我们注入的魔法能让这枚戒指自我复制，

The magic we built in, it means the ring can copy itself, they said.

只要奥丁戴着这枚戒指，他就永远不会缺黄金。

The all father will never want for gold as long as he bears our ring.

真是了不起的礼物啊，

Truly an amazing gift, said Loki.

Give Odin our esteem, they said.

Loki nodded and started to head for the surface, but then he had another idea.

两件宝物已经够好了，但阿斯加德的众神众女神都对他怒火中烧，这狡猾的骗子突然想出了脱身之计。

Two treasures were good, but the gods and goddesses in Asgard were all very mad at him, and the cunning trickster suddenly had a plan to get himself out of trouble.

他回到伊瓦尔迪的儿子们那里，给他们看了布洛克和艾崔兄弟打造的魔法戒指。

He went back to the sons of Ivaldi and showed them the magic ring the brothers Broker and Eitri had made.

看看这件杰作，他笑着说，嘴角藏不住那副狡猾的得意。

Look at this masterwork, he said, barely hiding his weaselly smile.

我原以为你们已经够厉害了，可这个更了不起。

I thought you were all good, but this is even better.

阿斯加德的众神众女神会长久传颂布洛克和艾崔的名号。

The gods and goddesses of Asgard will long sing of Brokr and Eitri.

更了不起？伊瓦尔迪的儿子们吼道。

Even better, roared the sons of Ivaldi.

更厉害。

Better.

你且坐着别动，我们让你见识什么叫真正的厉害。

Oh, you just sit right there, and we'll show you better.

熔炉突然自动燃起，烈焰咆哮，铁锤铿锵作响。

The forges magically flared to life, and the fires roared, and the hammers rang.

没过多久，他们带着另一件宝物回到洛基面前。

And soon, they came back to Loki, holding another treasure in their hands.

看看这个，说说看，众神会为谁歌唱？

Look at this and tell us who they'll be singing for.

他们手中握着一支精美的长矛，上面刻满了力量符文与古老的矮人咒语。

In their hands, they held an elegant spear engraved with runes of power and ancient dwarven spells.

这柄长矛正好契合奥丁的手掌，出手必中，如末日降临，从不落空。

This spear will fit Odin's hand perfectly, and it will never miss its target and never fail to strike like doom itself.

这确实配得上众神之父的礼物，洛基说道。

Truly a gift worthy of the all father, Loki said.

伊瓦尔迪之子，你们的技艺已经证明了一切。

Sons of Ivaldi, you have proven your prowess.

当然，洛基还没完呢。

Of course, Loki wasn't done there.

他把长矛拿给布罗克和艾崔，向他们夸耀了一番。

He brought the spear to Broker and Eitri and bragged to them about it.

兄弟俩不甘示弱，又回到熔炉前，打造了一头金色的野猪，跑起来比任何马都快。

The brothers couldn't let themselves be outdone, so they went back to their forge and created a golden riding boar faster than any horse.

Back and forth, Loki went from the sons to the brothers until his pack was bulging with magic items.

Taking his treasures, Loki again turned to a mole and burrowed back to the surface before the dwarves could realize that they'd been tricked.

Once back in Asgard, he immediately went to Valhalla and the throne of Odin, where the gods and goddesses all waited.

Have you found a way to fix my hair?

I'm so, so tired.

And that's how it usually went for the trickster, always getting himself into and out of trouble with his schemes.
