Speaker 0

The Story Pirates.

Speaker 1

Okay, everybody.

Speaker 1

Here's what's going on.

Speaker 1

As you've probably heard before, every once in a while, we invite all of our Creator Club members to join me and Peter on a Zoom, and we write a wacky story together.

Speaker 1

This time, over a 100 different kids from all over the world showed up, and together, we wrote this incredible story about a snake named Peter, who is not Peter the Story Pirate, who travels back in time to the 1990s to save his pet frog.

Speaker 1

And yes, there are a lot of references to things we loved from the nineties in this episode.

Speaker 1

And Elvis, he was from the nineties, right?

Speaker 1

Right?

Speaker 1

And PS grownups, we're doing this whole thing again on Zoom with me and Peter in July.

Speaker 1

It's not too late to get your kids involved.

Speaker 1

We're going to write a brand new story together and then adapt it for the podcast just like in today's episode.

Speaker 1

Information on how to join us is in the episode description for today's episode.

Speaker 1

So grown ups, check it out and join us.

And now without further ado, we present to you a story by the Story Pirates Creator Club, the historic time traveling of the snake trying to find Peter in the nineties.

Speaker 1

Not the Story Pirate, the frog.

Speaker 1

Speaker 0

Oh, it's quitting time here at the cuckoo clock factory.

Speaker 0

Oh, Calvin the snake, this isn't just a cuckoo clock factory.

Speaker 0

喵。

Meow.

Speaker 0

I know that, Fiona the cat, but it's mostly cuckoo clocks.

Speaker 0

You got me there.

Speaker 0

You did.

Speaker 0

Anyway, any big plans this weekend?

Speaker 0

Not really.

Speaker 0

My only plans are to try to find my lost neon gloves.

Speaker 0

Neon gloves?

Speaker 0

Like the kind that were very big in the nineties.

Speaker 0

Remember the nineties?

Speaker 0

Wow.

Speaker 0

I haven't thought about the nineties in quite some time.

Speaker 0

Yep.

Speaker 0

Looks like you're about to get lost in a bit of nostalgic nineties daydreaming, so I'll leave you to it.

Speaker 0

Oh, right.

Speaker 0

I'll see you Monday.

Speaker 0

再见。

Speaker 0

Speaker 0

That was quite a decade.

Speaker 0

Famous for so many things.

Speaker 0

Skateboards, mix tapes, rat tails, no screams, tall socks, puffy hair, hula hoops, disco dancers, dragons, Elvis Presley, and Grunge.

Speaker 0

If my memory is correct, all that's true.

Speaker 0

But there's something else in my memory of the nineties, something I haven't thought about in a long time.

Speaker 0

It's all coming back to me.

Speaker 0

Wow.

Speaker 0

Peter, my pet frog.

Speaker 0

Speaker 0

What's that?

Speaker 0

You wanna go to the hat store here at the mall and buy another hat?

Speaker 0

How many hats do you need?

Speaker 0

Ribbit.

是的。

Yeah.

Speaker 5

Calvin the snake and his pet frog, Peter.

Speaker 0

Speaker 0

Speaker 0

I completely forgot.

Speaker 0

After that, I never saw my dear pet frog ever again.

Speaker 0

Oh, Calvin.

Speaker 0

How could you forgotten such a core memory?

Speaker 0

If only there was some way to go back to prevent Peter from hopping off.

Speaker 0

Only I could go back in time.

Speaker 0

Of course.

Speaker 0

It's so simple.

Speaker 0

Calvin, you're all alone in a clock factory.

Speaker 0

Can't you just use all these clocks to build a time machine?

Speaker 0

No, of course not.

Speaker 0

But I can use all these clocks to build a robot who can build a time machine for me.

Speaker 0

Here I go.

Speaker 0

And done.

Speaker 0

My robot is complete.

Speaker 0

Turning on.

Speaker 6

Hello, Calvin the snake.

Speaker 6

Speaker 6

I love your bangs.

Speaker 0

Of course you do.

Speaker 0

My bangs are beautiful.

Speaker 0

But that's not why I built you.

Speaker 0

I know.

Speaker 6

You built me to build a time machine.

Speaker 0

没错。

It's right.

Speaker 0

You better get to it.

Speaker 0

We don't have much time.

Speaker 6

He's using all the clock gears and the cuckoo clock bits.

Speaker 0

而且

And

Speaker 6

Hiya, Calvin.

Speaker 0

I'm a time machine.

Speaker 0

Cock a doodle loo?

Speaker 0

Why do you sound like a rooster instead of a cuckoo bird?

Speaker 0

Nobody knows.

Speaker 8

You wanna travel through time, Just turn my clock hands to the date and time that you want, and we'll get going.

Speaker 8

Speaker 0

I can see the decades flying by out the window.

Speaker 0

Speaker 8

Now, to capture Peter with this net the fastest way possible by climbing the mountain next to the mall, doing five backflips off the peak, falling all the way through that open skylight and landing on Peter with the net.

Speaker 4

Is that the fastest way?

Speaker 4

Speaker 5

Don't look at me that way, frog.

Speaker 2

What's that sound?

Speaker 0

It sort of sounds like me, but 30 years older and falling from a mountaintop after doing five bed flips.

Speaker 0

Are you sure you are my twin brother, but thirty years older?

Speaker 0

It's best if we don't think about it too hard.

Speaker 0

Here, take your pet frog, Peter, and go buy that hat.

Speaker 0

Thanks, mister.

Speaker 0

Just promise me one thing.

Speaker 0

Don't let Peter get lost.

Speaker 0

Don't let him out of your sight.

Speaker 0

And also, never cut those bangs.

Speaker 0

Why would I?

Speaker 0

没错。

Exactly.

Speaker 0

You know, in one of our recent Story Love videos, I wore this really nice white queen sweater that I have, and I gotta say it really upped my look.

Speaker 1

For once, I was not dressed like a teen headed off to summer camp, and instead, I looked like a professional kids and family podcaster.

Speaker 1

Right?

Speaker 1

And then I wore the same sweater home, and my family was like, hey.

Speaker 1

Do you have something fancy today?

Speaker 1

And I was like, no.

Speaker 1

And they just stared at me.

Speaker 1

They didn't say anything for like a full minute.

Speaker 1

You see, it's just confusing to see me wearing something so nice and flattering.

Speaker 1

你好。

Hello.

Speaker 1

You know, the Story Pirates, we get tens of thousands of stories a year.

Speaker 1

对。

Mhmm.

Speaker 1

And some of those stories, we get to put on our podcast.

Speaker 8

对。

Mhmm.

Speaker 1

And some of them, we get to talk about on this segment.

Speaker 1

是的。

Yeah.

Speaker 1

Story Love.

Speaker 1

I can't wait anymore.

Speaker 1

好。

Okay.

Speaker 1

Do you wanna read first?

Speaker 1

对。

Yes.

Speaker 1

好。

Okay.

Speaker 1

Go ahead.

Speaker 1

Lee, our

Speaker 7

first story comes to us today from a seven year old from Nebraska named Willa.

Speaker 7

And Willa's story is called The Slow Sloth.

Speaker 7

The Slow Sloth, Sloth Mom.

Speaker 7

It's time for dinner, sloth y.

Speaker 7

Sloth y.

Speaker 0

I'm coming.

Speaker 7

Narrator.

Speaker 7

Slothie was coming, but it took a long time.

Speaker 7

Long, long time.

Speaker 7

Narrator.

Speaker 7

It took one year.

Speaker 7

When he got to the table, the food was gone.

Speaker 7

Slothie.

Speaker 7

Oh, no.

Speaker 7

The food is gone.

Speaker 7

I'm so hungry.

Speaker 7

Mom, it has been what year?

Speaker 7

Slothie。

Slothie.

Speaker 7

什么?

What?

Speaker 7

To be continued.

Speaker 1

Excellent story.

Speaker 1

I think it's for the best that the food was gone because you can't leave food out that long.

Speaker 1

You could get sick eating it.

Speaker 7

Best case scenario, that food has deteriorated.

Speaker 7

It's decomposed.

Speaker 7

A plant has grown out of it.

Speaker 1

Oh, is that

Speaker 4

怎么

how

Speaker 7

it And so fresh fruit is awaiting.

Speaker 1

So old food becomes new plants?

Speaker 1

I'm pretty sure if you

Speaker 7

leave a bagel on the street, an apple tree will grow.

Speaker 1

没错。

Right.

Speaker 1

Right.

Speaker 7

That's how it works.

Speaker 7

Right?

Speaker 1

Well, the other thing that could have happened is that it could have been exactly one year, and it was dinner time again.

Speaker 1

If you're

Speaker 7

a Sloth sloth family famously eat once a year?

Speaker 1

不是。

No.

Speaker 1

不是。

No.

Speaker 1

不是。

No.

Speaker 1

不是。

No.

Speaker 1

But you're timing I see.

Speaker 1

With a year delay.

Speaker 1

If you're a sloth family.

Speaker 7

Well, we need to ask ourselves, where is slothie coming from?

Speaker 1

I assumed their bedroom upstairs.

Speaker 1

That's usually where you are when someone says come to dinner.

Speaker 7

Because this is slow even for a sloth.

Speaker 7

But the title of the story is the slow sloth.

Speaker 1

Okay.

Speaker 1

You're right.

Speaker 1

So we can assume that this sloth is slower than the normal sloth, which is why the mom is so shocked.

Speaker 7

是的。

Yeah.

Speaker 7

And I was mom worried the whole time, or is the the whole family that slow?

Speaker 7

So she's thought, I better go check on them.

Speaker 1

I think that the mom knows the pattern here.

Speaker 1

So It's not a surprise.

Speaker 7

It seems like mom sees her child once a year.

Speaker 7

This childhood is going very quickly and also very slowly.

Speaker 7

Mom was sitting there.

Speaker 7

It was like, I could go check, but I'm his mother.

Speaker 1

没错。

That's right.

Speaker 1

I have things to see me.

Speaker 1

Maybe she took like an online correspondence class during that time.

Speaker 7

She could have started a whole new career.

Speaker 4

是的。

Yeah.

Speaker 4

A business.

Speaker 4

Uh-huh.

Speaker 1

This story was incredible.

Speaker 1

Thanks so much for sending it in.

Speaker 7

Lee, do you wanna read the next one?

Speaker 7

You bet I do.

Speaker 1

This one is from Orion, an 11 year old from Ohio, and it's called Anchovy the Flying Burger.

Speaker 7

Oh, excellent.

Speaker 1

Once there was a burger named Anchovy.

Speaker 1

Anchovy could fly.

Speaker 1

Oh, by the way, he could fly because a radioactive cat tried to eat him but spit him out.

Speaker 1

The radioactive cat's spit was also radioactive, and the radioactiveness made the burger able to fly.

Speaker 1

Back to the story.

Speaker 1

Anchovy was flying around when suddenly a flying golf club attacked the city.

Speaker 1

Anchovy grabbed the flying golf club and made a hole in one, the golf club's only weakness.

Speaker 1

Because he saved the day, he was tired, so he landed on a table.

Speaker 1

The end.

Speaker 1

PS, Jeff the stick man was controlling anchovy the whole time.

Speaker 4

Woah.

Speaker 4

Woah.

Speaker 4

I have a lot of questions

Speaker 1

about Okay.

Speaker 1

Please hit me.

Speaker 7

Because there's this whole backstory

Speaker 1

对。

Yes.

Speaker 7

About how this burger can fly radioactive spit from a cat.

Speaker 7

And in the end, Jeff the stick man was controlling anchovy the whole time.

Speaker 7

Does that mean the backstory is a lie?

Speaker 7

不是。

No.

Speaker 7

And the burger is just a ship?

Speaker 1

不是。

No.

Speaker 1

是的。

Yes.

Speaker 1

The well You see what I'm saying?

Speaker 1

I do see what you're saying, but I in no way does I think this negate the backstory.

Speaker 1

I imagine when the radioactiveness turned the burger into a flying burger, you know, it's sort of like some controls sort of went like out of the burger.

Speaker 7

You know?

Speaker 7

Maybe Jeff was like, oh, a giant burger.

Speaker 7

I'm a stick man.

Speaker 7

I'm gonna eat it.

Speaker 7

And he was eating the bun.

Speaker 0

Goes, woah.

Speaker 7

And then the cat happened.

Speaker 7

Then he's like suddenly, there's a spaceship now.

Speaker 7

So many questions.

Speaker 7

This story also had reminded me one of my favorite jokes, which is why do you know why I always bring an extra pair of socks when I go golfing?

Speaker 1

Because you have a hole in one?

Speaker 7

In case I get a hole in one.

Speaker 1

That's your favorite?

Speaker 7

This In my in this moment, it's my favorite.

Speaker 7

The joke I'm currently telling is always my favorite one.

Speaker 1

Well, my favorite story right now is this one.

Speaker 1

Orion, excellent work, my friend.

Speaker 1

Alright, Peter.

Speaker 1

We got one more.

Speaker 1

You wanna you wanna give it a go?

Speaker 7

我来。

I do.

Speaker 7

This one comes to us from a four year old from Arizona named Maggie.

Speaker 7

And Maggie's story is called The Clock That Can Talk.

Speaker 7

I love it.

Speaker 7

The refrigerator and the sparkly gingerbread girl sees the clock in the kitchen.

Speaker 7

The clock starts talking to them about what time it is.

Speaker 7

They get scared.

Speaker 7

The end.

Speaker 1

Fantastic.

Speaker 1

Short, sweet,

Speaker 7

It's really terrifying.

Speaker 7

But what she's not telling us is the Terry, the scary.

Speaker 1

What do you think she what do you think what do you

Speaker 7

mean by that?

Speaker 7

My mind races like they get scared.

Speaker 7

And that implies to me that the way the clocks spoke to them was creepy in some way.

Speaker 1

Well, time is scary.

Speaker 1

You know, if you start talking to someone about what time it is, you could terrify them.

Speaker 1

For example, I could say like, Peter.

Speaker 1

是的

Yeah.

Speaker 1

It is 10AM right now.

Speaker 1

You have so much work to do.

Speaker 1

You gotta get it done.

Speaker 1

You gotta eat lunch at some point.

Speaker 1

You gotta get home.

Speaker 1

That's gonna take 45 I'm scared.

Speaker 1

And then you're gonna have to, you know as soon as it's gonna be bedtime, you're gonna be tired.

Speaker 1

是的。

Yeah.

Speaker 1

That's talking to someone about what time it is is way more than just saying 03:00.

Speaker 1

对。

Mhmm.

Speaker 7

Right?

Speaker 7

Don't don't even get me started about space time.

Speaker 7

Oh, I would love to.

Speaker 4

Oh, okay.

Speaker 7

引力?

Gravity?

Speaker 7

Gravity is not a Gravity We don't even know what it is.

Speaker 7

It's not even a thing.

Speaker 7

It's Is that space time?

Speaker 7

Well, planets, they bend space time.

Speaker 7

So the idea is that when you get close to a planet, you're not actually moving towards it.

Speaker 7

But time and space are, and so the straight line becomes a curved line.

Speaker 1

This is honestly how I imagine all scientists are acting when they're describing You're

Speaker 7

like, Oh

Speaker 4

yeah, I had a imagination about a line curving.

Speaker 4

对。

Yeah.

Speaker 4

Okay.

Speaker 4

So you're in an elevator, but a planet is too big.

Speaker 1

And so are you moving?

Speaker 1

Scientists, thank you for your work.

Speaker 1

Maggie,

And Maggie, thank you for yours.

Speaker 1

Peter,

Here's my thought about this, Peter.

Speaker 1

是的

Yeah.

Speaker 1

Is the refrigerator and a sparkly gingerbread girl, both of those are inanimate objects.

Speaker 1

对。

Yes.

Speaker 1

Right?

Speaker 1

没错。

Mhmm.

Speaker 1

So we're starting from a baseline of, like, why should they be so surprised that the clock is talking to them?

Speaker 1

Are they the only ones that are sentient in this universe?

Speaker 1

But I assume that they can't speak themselves.

Speaker 7

Oh, interesting.

Speaker 1

Right?

Speaker 1

So I imagine there's this counter with a sparkly gingerbread girl on it sitting there.

Speaker 1

She's looking at the fridge.

Speaker 1

The fridge is looking at her, and they're sort of just like aware of each other, but they haven't figured out a way really to communicate.

Speaker 1

And then the first time in their whole lives that they hear something talk and communicate to them

Speaker 7

And that's always had a really interesting question.

Speaker 7

What's the rules of this world?

Speaker 7

Because that's not something that occurred to me, which is all the objects are alive they're but So aware of can't the clock speaking is the weird thing.

Speaker 7

对。

Yes.

Speaker 7

Or in my mind, if they're alive, everything's alive.

Speaker 7

They can all speak.

Speaker 7

So what he is saying about time is the weird thing.

Speaker 7

But Maggie has invited us to ponder these questions.

Speaker 1

Maggie, and ponder them, we will.

Speaker 1

明白。

Mhmm.

Speaker 1

Thank you so much for your story.
