Story pirates.

Speaker 0

Kids write stories.

Speaker 0

We act to mouth and kids write more.

Speaker 0

Hey, everybody.

Speaker 0

Welcome to

Speaker 1

the story pirates podcast.

Speaker 1

My name's Lee Overtree.

Speaker 2

And my name's Mindy Thomas from SiriusXM's Kids Place Live.

Speaker 2

Lee

Hey, Lee.

Speaker 3

Mindy

Hey, Mindy.

Speaker 3

How's it going?

Speaker 1

It's going great because today is our very first story pirates podcast.

Speaker 2

We've been talking about this for so long.

Speaker 2

I can't believe it's actually happening.

Speaker 2

And so today, we're gonna play one of our favorite stories from one of the last three years of Story Pirates performances on my show.

Speaker 1

没错

That's right.

Speaker 1

And if you don't know what the Story Pirates do, we take stories written by kids, and then we turn them into awesome sketches and songs for the kids who wrote them to see.

Speaker 2

I did not know that, Leo Overtree.

Speaker 1

You really should know that by now.

Speaker 2

Oh, wait a minute.

Speaker 2

Can I pick the story that we play today?

Speaker 1

I guess so.

Speaker 2

好的。

Okay.

Speaker 2

So remember a couple months ago during the summer when you asked our listeners to send in stories about just weird summer camps?

Speaker 1

Oh, yeah.

Speaker 1

We got so many great stories about weird summer camps.

Speaker 2

Princess lifeguard camp and Oh,

Speaker 4

真不错

that's nice.

Speaker 2

I think there was, like, backwards camp.

Speaker 2

Well, there was one that I especially loved, and I love the author's name.

Speaker 2

So can we do that one?

Speaker 1

Think I know which one you're talking about.

Speaker 1

It's marshmallow shooter camp.

Speaker 2

没错。

Yes.

Speaker 2

I can't stop thinking about it, and I want to go there.

Speaker 2

And I really hope that the author of this story was so inspired by his own words that when he grows up to be a grown up and invents a real life marshmallow shooter camp for grown ups to go to because I I wanna sign up.

Speaker 1

Alright.

Speaker 1

Well, I think you might be a little too old for marshmallow shooter

Speaker 4

营。

camp.

Speaker 2

You're never too old for marshmallow shooter camp.

Speaker 1

好的。

Okay.

Speaker 1

Well, we'll have to wait and see.

Speaker 1

So here's what I thought we could do.

Speaker 1

I would like to read the original story that this author sent into us.

Speaker 4

Oh, yeah.

Speaker 1

And then we can play the story pirates adaptation of that story for everyone to hear.

Speaker 2

And then let's crank call the author.

Speaker 1

That's a great idea.

Speaker 2

Or just regular column and ask him what he thought of his story performed.

Speaker 1

好的。

Alright.

Speaker 1

Good idea.

Speaker 1

So here is the original story sent in to us by first grader Christopher DeWeard from Ludington, Michigan.

Speaker 1

Here's his story, Marshmallow Shooter Camp.

Speaker 1

My summer camp idea is awesome, and I know weird because my last name is Da Weird.

Speaker 1

I want to have a marshmallow shooter camp.

Speaker 1

Marshmallow shooter camp is where all the marshmallow shooters would be made.

Speaker 1

For half the day, all the kids would build marshmallow shooters out of pipes like big Tinker Toys.

Speaker 1

Then the other half of the day, it's all the kids' jobs to test them out to make sure they all work right.

Speaker 3

The way to do

Speaker 1

this is by having lots and lots and lots of marshmallow shooting games and a big marshmallow fight.

Speaker 1

There are games where you try to hit a target with a marshmallow, games where you try to shoot marshmallows into other kids' mouths, and even a game where someone rolls in syrup and then everyone shoots marshmallows at them at once to see how many will stick to them at once.

Speaker 1

At night, you get to fill your pillowcase with marshmallows.

Speaker 1

It would be so funny because my pillow would be so lumpy.

Speaker 1

Every meal would come with a side of marshmallows except pickles.

Speaker 1

Ew.

Speaker 1

It would be the most funnest summer camp ever times infinity.

Speaker 1

结束。

The end.

Speaker 2

I can't believe he knocked pill pickles and marshmallows.

Speaker 1

Well It's

Speaker 2

like one of my favorite things to eat.

Speaker 1

That's disgusting, Mindy.

Speaker 2

It is disgusting.

Speaker 1

That's why I never come over to your house for lunch because you always serve the weirdest things.

Speaker 2

Marshmallows and pickles.

Speaker 2

Gross.

Speaker 2

Well, Lee Overtree, so we should we see now what the story pirates have done with Christopher DeWeard's marshmallow shooter camp story?

Speaker 1

对。

Yeah.

Speaker 1

Let's do it.

Speaker 1

So here it is from first grader Christopher DeWeard, marshmallow shooter camp.

Speaker 5

Hey, kids.

Speaker 5

Pack your bags cause it's time to go to camp.

Speaker 5

什么?

What?

Speaker 5

I thought you guys love camp.

Speaker 1

We do, but most camps are too normal.

Speaker 6

Yeah, we wanna go to a weird camp.

Speaker 3

Did somebody say weird camp?

Speaker 3

Hey, who are you?

Speaker 3

It's me, author, spokesman, and camp founder Christopher DeWeird.

Speaker 3

Christopher DeWeird.

Speaker 3

The one and only.

Speaker 3

Tell us about this camp.

Speaker 3

Is it awesome?

Speaker 6

Is it weird?

Speaker 3

My summer camp idea is awesome, and I know weird.

Speaker 3

Why is that?

Speaker 3

Because my last name is DeWeird.

Speaker 5

What's this camp called?

Speaker 3

It's called Marshmallow Shooters Camp.

Speaker 3

Marshmallow Shooter Camp.

Speaker 3

没错。

That's right.

Speaker 3

Marshmallow Shooter Camp.

Speaker 3

Where all the marshmallow shooters would be made.

Speaker 3

Wait a second.

Speaker 3

What's a marshmallow shooter?

Speaker 3

Come on, dad.

Speaker 3

什么?

What?

Speaker 3

Were you born in the twentieth century?

Speaker 1

Actually, yes, I was.

Speaker 6

A marshmallow shooter shoots marshmallows.

Speaker 3

I guess I should have seen that one coming.

Speaker 3

没错。

That's right.

Speaker 3

And at marshmallow shooter camp, for half the day, all the kids build marshmallow shooters out of pipes like big tinker toys.

Speaker 3

Then the other half of the day, it's all the kids jobs to test them out to make sure that they all work right.

Speaker 6

But how?

Speaker 6

How do they do that?

Speaker 3

I'll tell you.

Speaker 3

The way they do it is by having lots and lots and lots of marshmallow shooting games and a big marshmallow fight.

Speaker 5

没错。

Yeah.

Speaker 5

I knew it.

Speaker 5

Can we play

Speaker 3

them now?

Speaker 3

We sure can.

Speaker 3

Or my name isn't Christopher

Speaker 6

But your name is Christopher DeWear.

Speaker 3

Then we better get shooting.

Speaker 3

Yeah.

Speaker 3

Everyone grab one of these marshmallow shooters.

Speaker 4

Oh wow, cool.

Speaker 4

Look at this one.

Speaker 3

And the first game is where you try to hit the target.

Speaker 3

But where's the target?

Speaker 3

Dad's the target.

Speaker 3

什么?

What?

Speaker 3

Oh, hey.

Speaker 3

The second game is where you try to shoot marshmallows into other kids' mouths.

Speaker 3

Oh hey, mister Deweard, are there rules about how far away you

Speaker 6

Hey Sammy.

Speaker 6

Marshmallow.

Speaker 4

Oh, hey you throw a marshmallow into my mouth.

Speaker 6

I win.

Speaker 3

And there's even a game where somebody rolls in syrup and then everyone shoots marshmallows at them at once to see how many will stick to them at once.

Speaker 5

Well that seems a little silly because who would actually volunteer to be the person in the syrup?

Speaker 5

Wait, why is everyone looking at me?

Speaker 3

Just calm down, sir.

Speaker 3

Say, where did that tub of

Speaker 5

syrup behind me come from?

Speaker 4

Just be cool, dad.

Speaker 5

Hey, why are you all creeping towards me like that?

Speaker 3

Come on, dad.

Speaker 3

Don't make this any harder than it needs to be.

Speaker 5

What's going on here?

Speaker 5

Hey, don't push me in that tub of syrup.

Speaker 5

推。

Push.

Speaker 5

Oh man, I'm covered in syrup.

Speaker 5

Go get them kids.

Speaker 7

Marshmallow shooter cams out so

Speaker 6

great I probably wouldn't wanna sleep the whole time.

Speaker 3

Yeah, I wouldn't wanna miss a second of the marshmallow.

Speaker 3

You don't have to.

Speaker 3

什么?

What?

Speaker 3

Explain.

Speaker 3

Help me.

Speaker 3

Well, at night, you get to fill your pillowcase with marshmallows.

Speaker 5

Woah.

Speaker 5

It

Speaker 3

would be so funny because my pillow would be so lumpy.

Speaker 6

So lumpy.

Speaker 3

And just when you thought there couldn't be any more marshmallows.

Speaker 6

I don't think there could be any more marshmallows.

Speaker 5

Couldn't there?

Speaker 5

Could there?

Speaker 5

There could.

Speaker 3

Yeah.

Speaker 3

Please.

Speaker 3

不行。

No.

Speaker 3

At Marshmallow Shooter Camp, every meal comes with a side of marshmallows.

Speaker 3

Yeah.

Speaker 3

Except pickles.

Speaker 5

噫。

Ew.

Speaker 5

Ew is right.

Speaker 3

It would be the most funnest summer camp ever.

Speaker 6

Time's infinity.

Speaker 3

You said it.

Speaker 3

So come on down today and visit us at Marshmallow Shooter Camp.

Speaker 3

You'll have the funnest time ever.

Speaker 3

Or my name isn't Christopher.

Speaker 3

Hey, mister Deweard.

Speaker 3

Marshmallow.

Speaker 4

开始。

Go.

Speaker 4

Hey, you throw a marshmallow

Speaker 3

in my mouth.

Speaker 3

I win.

Speaker 3

Well, you certainly do.

Speaker 1

The end.

Speaker 1

So there's Christopher Deweird's story, Marshmallow Shooter Camp.

Speaker 1

Now, it's time to meet Christopher himself.

Speaker 1

Hello, Christopher.

Speaker 4

Hi.

Speaker 1

How's it going?

Speaker 1

Good.

Speaker 1

Christopher, can you tell us, first of all, where you are right now?

Speaker 4

Clayton, Michigan.

Speaker 1

How old are you?

Speaker 4

I'm six years old.

Speaker 1

Do you go to first grade?

Speaker 4

是的。

Yes.

Speaker 1

And what do you think about first grade?

Speaker 4

It's awesome.

Speaker 1

Christopher, I wanna ask you a couple questions about your story.

Speaker 1

Is that okay?

Speaker 4

Yeah.

Speaker 4

当然。

Sure.

Speaker 1

好的。

Okay.

Speaker 1

First question.

Speaker 1

What was it like when you heard your story on the radio?

Speaker 4

They performed it so well.

Speaker 4

I thought it was a real camp.

Speaker 1

You did?

Speaker 1

I thought it

Speaker 4

was real.

Speaker 4

I wanted to go.

Speaker 4

But then my mom told me it wasn't real.

Speaker 1

So if there was a marshmallow shooter camp, you would go to it?

Speaker 1

Yeah.

Speaker 1

And what would be your favorite thing to do at that camp?

Speaker 4

Do everything that's fun.

Speaker 4

Everything.

Speaker 1

Everything that's fun.

Speaker 1

I have another question for you.

Speaker 1

How did you come up with the idea for marshmallow shooter camp?

Speaker 4

I like marshmallow shooting.

Speaker 1

Where do you shoot them at?

Speaker 4

Outside anywhere.

Speaker 4

In the road, anywhere.

Speaker 4

On a cherry.

Speaker 4

On a cherry.

Speaker 1

Happens when you shoot marshmallows and they fall on the ground?

Speaker 4

My dog goes and eat them.

Speaker 1

什么?

What?

Speaker 1

You let him eat them?

Speaker 4

He let we let him.

Speaker 1

That is amazing.

Speaker 1

Well, Christopher, thank you so much for writing us a story.

Speaker 4

You're welcome.

Speaker 1

Speaker 4

Yes.

Speaker 1

Do you know what a podcast is?

Speaker 1

No.

Speaker 1

I thought so.

Speaker 1

Well, means we're gonna share it on the internet with everybody who wants to listen to it.

Speaker 1
