Hi, guys.
It's Teens And it's Teens Talking Truth.
We're so excited to be here today.
We're actually driving home from San Diego right now.
We've had such a fun day.
We went to visit our brothers who are in college up in San Diego.
And, yeah, we're just driving.
It was a great run.
We had a
police just behind us while
we were podcasting, and we were a little nervous.
But you know what?
God cut us, and we're doing good.
We're all fine.
Everything's fine.
So our topic today, we are going to be talking about rejection.
And we just wanna talk about rejection because I think it's something that we have experienced a lot lately with, like, colleges and just, like, stuff like that.
Obviously, rejection's normal, and it's inevitable.
And I feel like we've all faced rejection whether it's in relationships or careers or,
是的。
like Yeah.
I don't know, personal goals.
But I think I just wanna, like, talk about rejection, how we can reshape rejection into seeing it as, like, not something that's bad, but something that can just be, like, redirection.
And, yeah, I was gonna ask Geneva if she has any personal experience with rejection that she wants to talk about or how rejection has been in her life.
是的。
Yeah.
Rejection is a real thing, and I feel like we don't wanna admit it to people because we're scared that they will look at us in, like, a bad way or, like, oh my gosh.
Like, she didn't get in that college.
Like, well, I did and whatever it is.
And, like, I think no matter where you're at in life, like, rejection is going to happen.
And, like, we all have it obviously in different, like, situations.
Like, some are with people and some with are with situations and schools and, you know, sports teams and everything.
But I think, personally, I've battled battled with rejection through my sport.
I feel like I felt really rejected by my coach or by possibly some teammates.
And, like, that was really hard because I had to be there every day.
是的。
Yeah.
And, like, every day I felt that rejection, and I think it was really humbling and humbling being humbled is a really good thing, but it was also really, like, sad and, like, I was shamed.
I felt shame sometimes.
But how about you?
How do you feel like you've dealt with rejection in, like, your past or your present?
I think that I am not good at dealing with rejection.
I think that when I'm faced with rejection, like, I think I can spiral a lot, and it, like, it'd be one small rejection.
And then I'm like, okay.
So I'm rejected.
So that means I'm stupid, which means I'm gonna have no future, which means everyone hates like, I'm really bad at, like, spiraling, and it's a really bad habit I need to get out of.
So I would say I'm not the best at dealing with rejection, but I will say that, like, I'm trying to train myself to, like, reshape how my mind thinks about rejection because I think I can, like it takes reduction takes, like, a really big emotional toll on me.
And I feel like I need to, like, acknowledge, like, the feelings hurt and disappointment and frustration that come with rejection and know, like, it's okay to feel upset when you're rejected, but it's not, like, good to, like, spiral out of control because of rejection.
所以……
And so
I have a thought.
是的。
Yeah.
I feel like because we get rejected with one situation, then we turn it to, like, maybe, like, everything.
Oh, for sure.
And, like, it's like that one bad day becoming a bad week and then becoming a bad month and whatever it would be.
But it's like, how we how don't we why don't we think of it like, okay.
One rejection.
Think about how many, like, positive feedback we've gotten from this and that.
And, like, what about, like, being grateful of, like, where we're at right now?
And I feel like it's so cool to be like, you know what?
We can think, like, oh my gosh.
That one rejection is gonna ruin my day or just ruin my future.
But I think we have to, like, actually step back and just be like, wow.
We can just be, like, grateful for where we're at right now instead of, like, planning everything.
Like, for me, I, like, really I'm like, I need to get a roommate.
I need to know where I'm going, and I needed to, like, have everything figured out.
And it's like, you know what?
Like, I think God's putting me putting me through this waiting period for, like, a real reason.
是的
Yeah.
That is so good, Geneva.
I also think that it's important to realize that, like, sometimes rejection can be used because, like, god has something so much greater for you.
So it's like you don't see it in the moment, and you just feel like you're being rejected, but then you have to, like, take a step back and realize that maybe God is actually protecting me through this rejection for something that's gonna be so much greater in the future.
And so I also think, like, sometimes that you feel like the rejection is, like, the end will be all.
Like, that's the rejection is the end, but rejection could actually be the beginning of something so much greater.
And I think if we, like, change our perspective on rejection and, like, what if we saw rejection as, like, god guiding us away from things that aren't meant for us instead of rejection as something negative, it's something that is just God saying, like, this isn't for you.
嗯
Mhmm.
You know?
That's really good.
You know, I was also thinking, I think sometimes we forget, like, where rejection came from.
Like, for me personally, I'm the youngest of four or five kids.
And so I feel like when I was younger, I always was rejected.
不。
Like, no.
You're the youngest.
Like, you don't you can't do it.
Or you're that like and so that's maybe why I've, like I'm a baby a little bit better at, like, you know what?
Whatever.
But I think I also get really, like, not traumatized, but, like, when I feel rejected, I'm like, oh, that kinda reminds me of, like, that younger, not good enough self where now it's like, I don't wanna believe those lies because I did when when I was younger.
I believe, like,
Peter Strong.
You let rejection, like, dictate how you feel about yourself.
是的。
Yes.
And, like, how like, obviously, I felt like I was really mature when I was younger.
So a lot of people didn't know my age.
They didn't really know because they were like, how can you, like, have conversations like this when you're, like, that young?
But I think when people figure that out, I was shameful because I felt like not a lot of people could relate or not relate, but, like, understand that, like, you can be that old or be 10 years old and, like, understand, like, emotions and, like, how people are.
So I feel like that's another thing.
Like, I felt rejected because I felt like my feelings weren't valid because I was young.
Mhmm.
And, like, well, you haven't lived that much.
And I was you like, know what?
I've seen other people live, like, a lot.
So I feel like there's so many different ways that you can be, like, rejected, like, from this world or whether it's, like, a flat out rejection or just, like, a rejection that, like, comes naturally.
I think that with rejection, I feel like it's really important to, like, trust the process, which I me saying this, it feels like hypocritical, but I'm saying it to myself too.
Like, I I need to trust the process and a lot of things and believe, like, there's something better in store for me even if it's not, like, immediately clear.
是的。
Yeah.
And that I can see that God has a plan for me, and it's greater than my own.
And that I can, like, use rejection, like, for like, personal growth and that I think that reject rejection can also lead to, like, a clearer sense of, like, what you want and what you're good at and where you need to grow, and rejection gives you a lot of answers.
And so I think in I think it's important to, like, trust the process, trust the timing.
Like, sometimes things don't happen in your timeline, which is, like, really hard for me, like, waiting and being patient.
And I just have to remember that, like, just because things are happening exactly when I want them or in my timeline, it doesn't mean that they're not gonna happen at all.
And that's not a reason to, like, give up and, like, trust in the timing of your journey and, like, the plan that God has for you is so, so important.
I have a
and this is really cool.
I feel like sometimes we forget, like, we want that, like, lukewarm, like, rejection.
We don't want that, like, straight up, like, I don't wanna be your friend anymore.
I can't be your boyfriend or I can't be your girlfriend, whatever it is.
But it's like, think about how, like, you want a yes or no.
You wanna be a yes and a no person.
You don't wanna be a yes maybe or no maybe because say you do want
that or you don't want
那个?
that?
你希望自己的 yes 就是 yes,no 就是 no。
Like, you want it to be like, my yes is my yes, and my no is my no.
Rejection.
You don't wanna a lukewarm rejection.
I think we live in a society where it's like, well, you're waitlisted or you're deferred or you're all these things.
And you're just like, this is, like, not even, like I don't know.
I'm, like, confused.
You know?
And I think I think sometimes, like, I'd rather just be told straight up, like, this is my yes and this is my no.
You know?
And and I think it's hard when we're, I think, in that stage right now where it's like, some feel some things feel like a no, and then some things also feel like a yes because it's like, you're not you don't know yet.
是的。
Yeah.
A 100%.
I think that that's really good.
I I hate that.
Like, having, like, not a clear cut, like a yes or no, and then you're just confused.
I think that's happens, like, not just college, but in a lot of different ways.
It can be in, like, relationships where you're like Yeah.
What are we?
Like, are we friends?
Are we not friends?
Like, so many things where it's like, can you just give me answers?
And I think that it kinda goes back to, like like, it's important to acknowledge your emotions and, like, be kind to yourself.
And I think that it's like, remind yourself that rejection doesn't determine your self worth or, like, your potential and that it's important to, like, be compassionate to yourself.
I also think that I did some research and it says, like, some important things with rejection is, like, shift your focus.
And, like, after the initial, like, emotional upset and, like, I'm so sad.
I've been rejected or I feel like, I experience a lot of rejection, like, you can learn from rejection.
You can ask yourself, like, what can I improve?
What is an what new direction might might this, like, open up?
Like, what's a new opportunity I can have because of this rejection?
And I think, ultimately, like, that's gonna, like, build resilience for you, and, like, it's gonna reiterate that, like, rejection builds strength.
And over time, you'll become more resilient and less afraid when you have experience with rejection.
And I think it's really important to experience rejection before before you're grown up.
Like, obviously, like, most of our audience is, like, targeted towards teens, and I think experience rejection as a teen can be super hard because, like, obviously, like, you're not fully, like, emotionally mature yet totally, but I think it's really important to experience rejection because, like, the world world is gonna reject you.
And I think it's important to learn about rejection and experience rejection before you're out in the real world because there's a lot of rejection out there.
And so Geneva's gonna read us a verse about rejection.
是的。
Yeah.
This one's really good because this goes right back to what you just said.
And it's in John, which I think John's so good.
It's John fifteen eighteen.
If the world hates you, keep in mind that he it hated me first.
Oh, was that that's God talking?
是的。
Yeah.
Is that Jesus?
That's Jesus.
是的。
Yeah.
The the world did hate Jesus.
The world persecuted him and obviously crucified him, which is so interesting because I feel like that's sometimes, like, in rejection on a lot started large smaller scale.
It can feel like everyone hates you.
Like, nobody wants you because of your like, this experience.
Right?
But I think it's important to realize, like, that's not true.
And, like, that's that's okay because, like, Jesus, the most perfect man in the world, like, not everyone loved him.
You know?
And I think that that's, like, really encouraging to know that, like, Jesus was rejected by so many people, and he's still rejected, and he's the most powerful person.
So, like, rejection isn't always something that, like, you did to be rejected.
It's just something that happens and something that everyone experiences.
Even Jesus experienced rejection.
So I think that's a really good encouragement, and that's something I can remind myself.
Like, when I'm experienced rejection, I can be like, hey.
Jesus experienced rejection too.
Like, I'm not alone, and these same experiences are experiences that are so universal that everyone experiences.
我只是
I just
think that's really encouraging.
I love that.
I think it's so interesting how when you do follow, like, a different, like, worldview and, like, not of this world, but for this world and, like like, encouraging people of this world, like, to to follow Jesus.
It's so good to keep in mind that, like, we shouldn't be afraid of rejection because we're gonna constantly be rejected by, you know, the people, like, things, and it's gonna be it's hard, honestly.
I think rejection's really hard.
是的。
Yeah.
But seriously, like, I feel like I'm the strongest when I'm, like, understanding, like, wow.
You know what?
I got I went through that rejection, but I'm literally stronger than I was before because I know that, like, I can get through the next valley because of this valley.
对。
Right.
That makes sense?
And then, like and also, like, friendships, you'll realize when you get rejected from, like, friendships, you'll find, like, the right ones.
Oh, totally.
And, like, rejection doesn't have to be, like, verbal rejection.
It's like, you could see actions in their life, and they're just like, wow.
Like, this is you're basically rejecting what we, like, I what we are and how, like, our friendship is.
And if you I think, obviously, addressed addressing that to get it better, but if you don't see any change in that, like, that's kind of, like, a flat out, like, okay.
They're not for me, if that makes sense.
是的。
Yeah.
I think, like, really, like, summing up what you said, I think rejection can bring so much growth and, like, change.
And after you are rejected, I feel like, yeah, you can grow a lot from that.
And then going back to the front thing, I'm just like, that, like, brought me back, and I was thinking, like, three years ago, like, there's so many friendships that I feel like I was in that I felt, like, not comfortable or I felt kinda, rejected in that relationship.
And I was like, oh, it must be me.
Like, there must be something wrong with me.
Like, a 100%.
Because I felt, like, rejected in that friendship.
And I think that looking back, like, that was just God redirecting me, and now I feel like I have such amazing friends and people that I really love to spend time with.
And I don't think that, looking back, that was rejection.
That was literally just God saying, like, this this isn't for you.
I have something else for you.
That's gonna be better for you.
And in the moment, I'm sure I was not thinking that.
I'm sure I was thinking, like, I'm be like, what's wrong with me?
Like, do these people not wanna be with me?
Like, you know, I think that there's so many things that you can think, so much self doubt you can have in face of rejection, but I ultimately think, like, God really does have a plan, and I know it's, like, so cliche.
And I have to remind myself that over and over again because I'm in, like, I'm in a phase right now where I have, like, no answers, like, in my future.
Like, I have no idea what my next year looks like, and I I kinda feel, like, frantic.
But then I have to remind myself, like, I can have peace by knowing that even though I don't know, god knows.
And I actually in church last week, I wrote something down, and I sent this to Geneva.
And I can go look, but I think I remember it.
It was saying that, like, even though I'm worried, the author of tomorrow knows my next steps.
And so Jesus is the author of tomorrow.
He's the author of a week from now, the author from a year from now.
Right?
He's the author of everything, and he knows exactly my next steps.
And he already has the my life written out.
He has the book finished.
And so I can have comfort knowing that even though I don't know, my my father in heaven knows and has a plan for me.
So I think that God is careful.
God has a plan, and he's so intentional, and God is intentional with every rejection you get.
And God isn't gonna take anything God isn't gonna say no to anything that's for you, and God isn't gonna say yes to stuff that he doesn't want you that doesn't want for you.
So I think that knowing that God God God has a plan for your rejections, honestly.
I think that's just, like, the main thing and trusting
in that plan he has.
Amen.
I love going back to, like, knowing, like, everything happens for a reason.
And I think, yes, things are really hard to accept, and we sometimes take years to accept things.
But, like, actually knowing that maybe that rejection had a full on purpose.
And I was telling Delaney this.
I'm reading this book, and it's called Your Platform Is Not Your Purpose.
And I think it is so good because we forget what our purpose is.
And for me, and I know Delaney too is, like, to love others and to love God.
Like, that's,
like Right.
What our purpose is is, I think.
So I believe.
And I feel like this book highlighted, like, the more you love people, like, you're living out your purpose, and your platform platform will will come come with with that.
That.
So if you're really good at loving people by art, if you're really good at loving people by dancing or by acting or by singing, whatever it is, being a businesswoman, man, whatever.
Whatever.
Like, if that's what you're really good at loving other people and making other people succeed, then do it.
Like, go for it.
But if that's not your like, what you're good at, like, don't pursue that.
And I think sometimes we think we wanna pursue something because it looks good.
It looks, like, like, fun and the most trendy thing to do.
But in reality, like, we need that rejection because we're not living out our purpose.
And so that was, like, really cool to me, and I recommend everyone to read that.
It's literally by a nominous.
Like, the person didn't wanna have credit for it because he was, like, so humble about this book.
But it's pretty touching, and I think I'm realizing, like, every action I make, like, it's either for myself or for, like, other people.
And so I'm trying to find, like, how to love other people better because then that ultimate ultimately help help me love myself better too.
So what do you think?
是的。
Yeah.
I think that's really good.
I think that it's important to know that, like, rejection isn't always a bad thing.
Like, I think that's so important.
I think it's easier said than done because I I know, like, you can beat yourself up over rejection a lot.
And I just wanna, like, encourage each and every one of you who's going through rejection that it's gonna be okay and that you can really, like, share your experience with rejection because know, like, you're not alone.
And, like, so many people have similar experiences to you, and you're not the only one that's, like, experiencing this because it's it's honestly, like, it's an inevitable part of life, but it does not define you.
And that re redirection can just be, like, waiting for opportunities that are either even better for you.
And so I think that when and you're in faced with rejection, like, you don't have to suppress the emotions of upset because upset is normal.
But I also think that you don't have to, like, beat yourself up and, like, know that, like, everything everything happens for a reason.
And, yeah, I feel like if anyone's, like, going through rejection and wants to talk about it, and, like, it's less about personal inadequacy and more about, like, finding your future path.
And so I think that I just encourage you that, like, I know I've had my fair share of rejections, and, like, they don't feel good at all.
And, like, sometimes they can feel, like, so awful, but it's just, like, the feeling of being, like, dismissed or turned away, and it can happen, like, in so many ways.
And I think it's just important to realize that, like, it's easy to feel isolated in rejection, but and, like, thinking it only happens to you and, like, why did this happen to me and, like, why would god do this to me?
But feel like you're not alone.
Actually, like, you actually have so many people.
Like, the most successful people have faced multiple rejections before they reach where they are now.
And so I think that it can, like, let that be encouragement and, like, a moment for growth and opportunity for redirection before you find something that's even greater.
Oh, that's so good, Delaney.
I feel like this is a great time to, like, reflect.
And your reject rejection because sometimes we don't wanna admit it or we're too scared to.
Mhmm.
And I think when we actually, like, face it and we're like, you know what?
Like, we were rejected at in this situation, like and that was really hard, but, like, I'm a better person for it, and, like, I firmly believe that.
Another thing I will wanna end this with is, like, know who you are Right.
Through your rejection.
Because, like, you are fearfully made by God.
I believe that.
Everyone is.
And you have a purpose, and you obviously are living for a reason.
So I think just, like, reminding yourself, like, who you are facing rejection because you're really strong.
I think everyone can remember that and needs that encouragement.
Because you're super strong, and you're willing to do so much.
But yeah.
So I feel like this is so good, and we are we are back and better than ever.
I know.
