Unrivaled technique to start cashing in on your skills is to learn how to sell, negotiate, close, rents and repeat. You have to be able to convince others that you're as good as you know you are. Let's look back at the three roles we talked about earlier. The business owner, the freelancer and the employee. An integral part of any of those is monetizing the skill set so that your ability to sell adds value to the position that you have.

Selling is a prerequisite to wealth creation. Amazon has to sell. Tom Cruise has to sell his movie. Whole Foods has to sell their products. You have to sell in order to stay in business.

Mastering sales and the world will be your oyster. Business owners have to sell customers on their products, their services, otherwise that business will fail. Freelancers have to sell their potential clients on the superiority of their skills. You got to get in the door, make a phone call, get them to answer it, price your products, sell the product or that prospect won't do anything or they'll go to another contractor. And unless employees can sell their value to the company and continue to bring new revenue in, you'll be replaced by AI.

Sales is not just something for salespeople. Sales is a critical skill that all people need to be successful in any area of life. Mastering sales in the world will be your oyster. Now look, I know all this may seem a little bit overwhelming like where do you start? Well, where you start is the commitment to creating wealth.

Anytime I get confused about what I should do today, I always go back to my target, my commitment. And then I look at what do I need to do, what vehicle do I need, what skill set do I need to get me on the road to wealth. Look, make sure first of all that you're clear about where you're going and what you want to do. It's called the wealth creation formula. It's not called the get by formula.

Being a stenographer making 57,000 a year, throw that idea away because it's not going to get you there. There's tools and skills that are important to monetizing your skills and your tools. An example of how to use these as combos. Anytime you get overwhelmed, go back to what your target is. Then look at what skills you need to get you on the road to your target.

Make sure that you're clear that these are all just options. They're just vehicles whether you're a business owner, a manager, an employee, a student, a consultant, a freelancer, a scaler, an investor. All these are different types, characters that you will need to tap into along the way in order to keep you on the road to wealth creation. And some of these tools are important to successfully monetizing you where you are on that path or wealth road. These are all tools that are important to successfully monetizing your skills.

As an example of how to use these as combos. Let me use my own applications. Let's start with a personal brand. When social media first came out twenty ten, twenty eleven, I was criticized for flooding the various platforms with posting content. Keep in mind, I had no clue what I was doing.

No one knew about social media. Facebook, Instagram wasn't even out yet. Nobody knew how to use YouTube. Nobody knew that this would become a thing. I knew one thing I wanted to create wealth.

Second thing I knew I would not create wealth if no one knew me. Third thing distribution. Nobody would hire me for a TV show. Nobody was putting me on their TV shows. Nobody was getting me recognized.

I couldn't afford advertising on TVs. How is anybody gonna buy from me if nobody knows me? And then I have this thing called Facebook and YouTube that are free where I can drop content on them and cross my fingers maybe run into somebody on planet earth that likes it. I knew I had to get my name out in order to create wealth. Did I want to do it?

Absolutely not. Did I know how to do it? Absolutely not. But the result is now I have a strong brand approaching 19,000,000 followers across all the social media platforms. I remember my first post.

There was six people. Six people saw it. I remember the first time I did a live stream and there was 15 people there and I think three of them knew me. The rest of them just came in for a second, 12 of them didn't like me, banged out. Look, it's a hard, road.

While it might be a hard, cold, slow, rejecting, nobody paying attention to your road, don't think that that's not gonna allow you to reach more people. I know it helped me reach millions, tens of millions, 10 times more people than I even have following me. Now early on I also wrote a course based on my sales technology Cardone University that was an online platform. Why? Because I could only reach so many people one on one.

My books were only being read by so many people. 83% of all people that buy books never opened the book. So I was selling millions of books but 830,000 out of 1,000,000 people never read the book or finished the book. So therefore, how could they tell people I was great? You're never going to recommend a book to somebody that you didn't finish.

But what were people doing and have been doing for years is consuming video, watching content. Since TVs were built people have been consuming streaming content more than they actually read books. So I created a platform called Cardone University. Today we have tens of millions of people on this platform where you can learn about sales, marketing, scaling, managing, leadership, motivation, money, real estate investing and on and on. This has allowed me to do what I've done in my business is scale to not thousands of people but tens of millions of people and lower my prices and actually create more revenue for my companies.

Now that's something I'm super proud of. That's scaling my name, my brand and my courses. And before that what was I doing? I was traveling 3,000,000 miles I put on my body driving and flying around the country, Canada and to other countries trying to get my message out to one company at a time doing public speaking engagements. I wasn't being paid for them in order to get my name out in hopes that I could teach my content and someone would say, I want more.

It didn't work like that. Well, it kind of did, know, maybe one or 2% of the people out of the thousand that I called on, maybe 20 would buy my products and services. Very low closing ratio on this. What was I doing before this? I was going around the country getting on planes, getting rental cars, traveling the world.

It is not sexy by the way and it is not glamorous. You do not want to do this. Okay. I was basically a traveling gypsy. I did this for five years knocking on cold doors trying to get my products and services into the marketplace.

Thousands and thousands of presentations that I wasn't paid for. That did build me, it built a lot of character. I'm not hating on it but I'm suggesting to you there's better ways to do this so that you can skip to the good stuff. These workshops and speaking gigs that I was doing was my entire business. All my revenue came from trading time for a paycheck and I couldn't scale it.

Honestly, while it was profitable, I could only reach and help a limited number of people because we both ran out of time. I didn't have enough time and neither did my customer or my prospect. And you know throughout my entire career I've written books. The books themselves sold extremely well. More importantly they got attention and yeah they got me some cred, you know credibility.

But sales was where it all started. If you can't sell you won't have any money and you won't be able to stay in the game. Once I committed to getting good at sales which was simply a prerequisite for my road to wealth which by the way I hated the sales game. Who likes it by the way? Who likes being rejected?

Who likes talking to coal prospects warming people up? Maybe you do, I didn't. I wanted to be on the road to wealth and sales is simply a way station on your way to wealth. But once I figured the sales game out, I was no longer struggling with my rent. By the way, I remember when I couldn't pay $275 for a crappy apartment.

It was because of sales now that I could feed myself and reinvest in my business. At that time that was as much success as I could imagine. This is back when I'm making $4,000 a month. Becoming proficient in sales continues to fuel my success today. At that time, that was as much success as I could imagine.

When I went from $3,000 a month to $4,000 I had become partially more proficient at sales. I had not learned how to scale yet, but it was a big jumping off point for me. Listen to what I'm telling you. That first thousand dollars was a a game changer for me. At the end of the day, my point is no matter where you are today in your career, whether you're at 4,000, 40,000, 400,000, or you're making a billion dollars a year, learning to make more money through sales and marketing and promotion and scaling by using your abilities is the long term sustainable success and vehicle to you creating wealth in your life.

关键点来了。这里有一个稍微残酷的事实。如果你没有每天都在发挥你的全部潜力，听着，你已经‘破碎’了。顺便说一句，我说的不是‘破产’，而是‘破碎’。

The bottom line. Here's the slightly harsh truth. If you're not reaching your full potential every day, look, you're already broken. I didn't say broke, by the way. I said broken.

And I can be broke. I'm broke most of the time. I don't have money most of the time, but I'm never broken. I want you to really think hard about where you are right now. Is it a formal education that you need right now?

Is it really another degree or another course? And maybe it is right for you depending on what your career is. But if you're any of the following things, a visionary, a big thinker, someone who loves to create, you're a creator, someone who wants more out of life and you're never satisfied, Someone who wants passive income. You don't wanna earn income. You wanna not do anything and you wanna be paid.

Someone who wants to multiply their income. Maybe you're making 10,000 a month and you wanna make a 100,000 a month or you wanna make a 100,000 a week or a million a day. Are you someone who wants to build a life that only very few people are willing to sacrifice in order to make it happen? Are you one of those people that wants to be the top point 001%? See, that's me.

I'm all those things. Visionary, big thinker. I love to create. I want more out of life always. I want more passive income that I don't have to work for, but I want earned income too.

I wanna multiply my income stream so I have thousands, tens of thousands. Imagine hundreds of thousands of ways for money to come in every day. Someone who wants to build a life that could last beyond me, that people would write things about me later and say my God that guy came from the bayou, now he flies right by you. Put that one down. Then I know for a fact school will hold you back.

If you want any of these things institutions will hold you back because they're not visionaries, big thinkers, they're not creators, they're learners, they're students, they're not practitioners for the most part. And look if you don't want to stress about your finances, your job, or if you could keep your home, you absolutely don't wanna put yourself in a position where you can't enjoy your life. So let's jump back to the original question I started this chapter with. Is that paper degree really worth it? Look.

If you're a young black man or black woman, you've been told college is your only way. If you're Hispanic, you've been told college will get you to the upper income level. I am here to tell you right now, college is not the way to create wealth. I can show you billionaire after billionaire that dropped out. The reality is you can be a better person when you're not constantly bogged down by your financial situation and college is a setback on your financial situation.

While a lot of statistics will suggest for the underprivileged college is a boost up a way up. The truth is this country's $1,700,000,000,000 worth of middle class debt because of a piece of paper called a college education. You could achieve so much more when you're not getting hammered with debt and you could get so much more out of life. Let me ask you, is that paper degree really worth it? Is the debt really worth it?

You can achieve so much more when you're not being frustrated with your partner over money. You can get so much more done when you're not feeling like a victim of finance. Is that paper degree really going to get you on your path to wealth creation? Is there a wealth class at the college that you're attending? If you want to live a life of freedom, wealth should be your choice.

Now it's your choice. You want to be an accountant? You want to be an engineer? You want to be a scientist? You want a liberal arts degree?

You want to be a scientist? You want to be an engineer? Get a degree. If you want to create wealth, you have to make a commitment to wealth creation and the skills necessary to create wealth. Decide what life you want and go that path.

Only you can decide what is best for you. It is my belief that colleges and institutions, the formal way of education, even Elon Musk says a college degree is no longer necessary. It is my belief that the college degree, the institutional path actually will prevent you from creating wealth in your life. Look I wish I had gone to Harvard but not for the degree. I wish I had gone just for the connections, the network.

I also wish I would have paid more attention when I did go to college but I didn't. Unfortunately for me and so many others I had no direction, no real commitment, no intention for going to college. What I got from college was how to drink, how to use drugs, how to party, and how to get by, barely get by, how to simply just get out with a degree. I had no specific purpose for what I was learning, so I left my university with a piece of paper, a bunch of debt, and no idea about my future and very few skills. All I'm telling you is you don't need to go to college to get rich.

Bill Gates, Steve Jobs, Mark Zuckerberg, Michael Dell, Larry Ellison, John D Rockefeller, Ted Turner, Oprah Winfrey, David Geffen, Ralph Lauren, Sheldon Adelson just died recently, Bob Duggan worth $12,000,000,000 all these cats didn't finish college. You don't need to go to college to get rich and you don't need to go to college to get super rich and you don't need to go to college listen to me to get yacht rich and the problem isn't in the education it's in the approach. When you approach an education you have to think about skills and the future not just information and knowledge. Only 27% of college graduates are even working in the field they studied. Listen to this 73% of all people that go to college are not even in the thing they went and studied.

One of the reasons you study is to gain skills. The only thing you can use every day to bring more value to the marketplace are your skills and everyone must learn sales, marketing, scaling, motivation, leadership but no major of university even teaches any of this. I was recently in Lake Charles Louisiana, I passed by my high school, my elementary school and my college and when I passed by them all I could think about was that looks like a prison at least from the outside. Look I was forced to go to classes, my mom said you have to go to college, my family believed this is the way out. Things like history, geography, algebra, English grammar, whatever that was about by the way.

I was forced to read these books, take the test and I had zero interest. Shop class. Oh yeah that was a good one for me. Typing class was good because Ms. Garner was so hot.

Okay but overall public school was not. Elementary, high school and college was not a great learning experience for me. My daughter Sabrina, 15 years old, spent two years in schools. We took her out and homeschooled her. At 15 she has graduated from high school.

I didn't know how to build value. I didn't know how to qualify.

I didn't get wealthy from what I learned in school and school didn't hold me back from getting wealthy but I had to realize that one I hadn't been educated how to create wealth and two most importantly I had been indoctrinated without knowing it on how to stay stuck in the middle class. I became wealthy because of what I chose to learn after I left school.

You don't go to school to become a millionaire or billionaire.

The book goes on to preach there are seven common traits among millionaires that you can copy if you too wanna be a millionaire. Now the book sold tens of millions of copies.

And they're not on any path to become a millionaire themselves. And even if they are, you would find out that a millionaire is still just a middle class trap.

An obsession with worrying is not the kind of obsession that I'm encouraging in my book, Be Obsessed or Be Average. I'm encouraging you to be obsessed with success, with production, with creation, with abundance. Obsession with worry is the millionaire next door trap and you might be in it.

You're trapped into worrying over the wrong thing just to reach some arbitrary status called the millionaire next door. True wealth is the absence of worry. Can you see how solely obsessing over controlling costs is a losing formula? It'd be like playing defense the entire game.

What you'll quickly see is that every day your life is made up of cost. There's an old saying that you might have heard before don't sweat the small stuff and it's all small stuff. Well that saying could be don't sweat the cost And by the way, it's all cost. Because if you're constantly nitpicking and second guessing cost and measuring the cost of everything, you're second guessing your whole life. Does that sound like the American dream to you?

See the trick is to being able to properly pay for your cost which we're going to cover at link later. Since all of life is just a cost everything you do costs something. Being able to handle more and more costs in your life by getting your money right by creating wealth means you could actually live more.

They believe that becoming wealthy is for the lucky sperm club, business owner, gold diggers, lottery winners, athletes, rappers, or tech innovators. Both of these are symptoms of the same problem. Thinking too small and studying the wrong people and setting the wrong target. Look, I used to think too small before emancipating myself of this middle class trap.

Think hard to find someone in your life.

You probably have a bunch of voices in your head right now telling you Grant's wrong, money's not good, money is the root of all evil, money won't make me happy.

Every time you say something negative about money I want you to write it down for the next seventy two hours. Obsess over income not expenses. See if the millionaire next door trap is focused on cutting expenses that builds your worries, the antidote is generating more income. That is I become obsessed with generating more income and that will build my confidence. Worry makes you doubt yourself which makes you want to cut back even more.

I was simply paid more because I was more successful at the things that I did. Making that extra thousand dollars was the most important money I ever earned in my life and I would earn billions more after this but it was the first thousand dollars that extra that gave me the confidence and the momentum and most importantly, that showed me I was in control of my ability to produce new income. I have never created more confidence because I saved money.

Some people suggest that everyone can't have money. They're misers. Look, some people claim that everyone can't have money.

You read stories of billionaires like Elon Musk burning the midnight oil, working eighty and a hundred hours. He talks about taking breaks to grab something to eat and then fall asleep.
