Welcome to the Civil Engineering Podcast, the podcast focused on helping civil engineering professionals succeed by exposing them to interesting civil engineering projects and successful civil engineering professionals around the world.

Speaker 0

主持人安东尼·法萨诺和克里斯蒂安·努特森都拥有成功但非传统的土木工程职业经历,现在他们专注于帮助土木工程专业人士实现工作与生活中的目标。

Hosts Anthony Fasano and Christian Knutson had successful but unconventional civil engineering careers and now focus on helping civil engineering professionals achieve their goals in work and life.

Speaker 1

你好。

Hello.

Speaker 1

我叫安东尼·法萨诺。

My name is Anthony Fasano.

Speaker 1

这位是克里斯·努特森。

I have with me Chris Knutson.

Speaker 1

我们是这档土木工程播客的主持人。

We are your hosts for the civil engineering podcast.

Speaker 1

这是个新节目,我们特别特别期待它。

This is a new podcast, and we're really, really excited about it.

Speaker 1

这个播客将专注于帮助土木工程师在工作和生活中都取得成功。

The podcast is gonna be focused on helping civil engineers succeed both in work and in life.

Speaker 1

我们做这个播客,会重点介绍那些成功的土木工程项目和优秀的土木工程师。

And what we're going to do with this podcast is focus a lot on successful civil engineering projects and successful civil engineering professionals.

Speaker 1

今天这期节目主要是个开场介绍。

The point of today's show is it's an introductory show.

Speaker 1

我和Chris会跟大家简单聊聊我们各自的背景和经历。

Chris and I are gonna tell you a little bit about ourselves and our backgrounds.

Speaker 1

我们也会简要说明一下创办这个节目的初衷。

We're gonna talk to you about why we're starting the show briefly.

Speaker 1

当然,最重要的是,我们会告诉大家对节目有什么期待,以及怎么利用它来取得成功和成长。

And then most importantly, we're going to let you know what you can expect from the show and kinda how you can use it to succeed and grow.

Speaker 1

所以,为了开场,我先邀请我的搭档克里斯·克努特森,让他先简单介绍一下自己,讲讲他的背景,然后我再做同样的介绍,咱们就直接进入正题。

So what I'd like to do to get started here is I'm going to invite my cohost, Knutson, tell us a little bit about himself, a little bit about his background, then I'll do the same and we'll jump right into it.

Speaker 1

克里斯,你好吗?

What's up, Chris?

Speaker 2

是的。

Yeah.

Speaker 2

嗨,安东尼。

Hey, Anthony.

Speaker 2

大家好。

And hey, everyone.

Speaker 2

感谢大家收听我们的《土木工程播客》。

Thanks for joining us here on the, Civil Engineering Podcast.

Speaker 2

正如安东尼所说,我们俩都很期待这个节目正式启动,也期待未来几周里我们共同经历的种种。

As Anthony mentioned, we're both pretty excited about getting this one underway and, about what's gonna lay ahead for all of us as, as we step through this over the weeks to come.

Speaker 2

先说说我的背景吧。

So a little bit about my background.

Speaker 2

我是一名土木工程师,科班出身。

I'm a civil engineer, degreed.

Speaker 2

我很多年前在密歇根州立大学读书。

I went to Michigan State University, a number of years ago.

Speaker 2

我毕业那年是1993年。

I'll date it, and I graduated in 'ninety three.

Speaker 2

虽然已经过去很久了,但我最初并不是直接学土木工程的。我先接触过音乐,后来又学过电气工程,最后才慢慢转到土木工程。原因很简单——我需要能亲眼看到自己在想的东西,而土木工程能做到这一点,电气工程却不行。

So it's been a while ago, but I actually moved into civil engineering as a course of study after, touching a little bit in music and then electrical engineering and then stepped my way into civil engineering and I did it because quite frankly, needed to be able to visually see what I thinking about and civil engineering allowed me to be able to do that, electrical engineering.

Speaker 2

我之所以没走电气工程这条路,是因为那根本不是我能成功的方向。

Well, I'm not on the electrical engineering podcast because that just wasn't gonna be the avenue for me to be able to succeed in life.

Speaker 2

从大学毕业以后,我就一直投身于土木工程行业,再也没有离开过。

So with the civil engineering route and have been involved in the civil engineering industry, since graduating from college.

Speaker 2

另外,我有军方背景。大学一毕业,我就直接进了空军,当了二十多年的土木工程军官。

And, for myself, I have a military background, so I left university, went right into the Air Force where I served as a civil engineering officer for over twenty years.

Speaker 2

这段经历让我有机会在世界各地积累了很多难得的体验。

And that allowed me to have some awesome experiences literally all over the world.

Speaker 2

我职业生涯的至少一半时间都是在美国以外度过的,主要在中东和欧洲,也待过非洲和东南亚。这让我亲眼见证了全球各地、各个层面的土木工程实践。我很期待通过这个播客,把我在世界各地的所见所闻分享给大家。

I spent a good, at least half of my career, thus far outside of The United States in, The Middle East, in Europe, a little bit of time in Africa and Southeast Asia And so I've had an opportunity to be able to see civil engineering up in front, at every level all around the planet and, I look forward to being able to bring in a lot of the experiences that I've had globally and around the world and bring those to all of you, all of you listeners out there through this podcast.

Speaker 2

接下来我要说一件事,我们之前还没提过——我其实即将做出一些调整。

And I'm going to be we haven't really touched on this before, but I'm going to be transitioning actually.

Speaker 2

我们录制这期节目的时候,我人还在美国,但很快就会再回欧洲去。我特别期待能接触到欧洲那些优秀的工程项目和顶尖的土木工程师,把他们带到你们面前,通过这个播客和大家分享。

I'm in The US right now as we record this episode, but I'm going be moving back over to Europe again, here shortly and look forward to being able to tap into a lot of the great projects and a lot of the great civil engineer leaders that are in the European area and bring those people to you through this podcast.

Speaker 2

我觉得这会给我们的概念、讨论以及关于土木工程的话题增添很多丰富的细节。

I think it's gonna add a lot of texture to the concepts and the discussions and the things that we're gonna talk about civil engineering.

Speaker 2

所以刚才简单介绍了我的背景,也聊了聊我对这个播客未来的规划。

So it's a little bit about my background and a little bit about what what I see laying out in the future for the podcast.

Speaker 2

安东尼,你呢?

Anthony, what about you?

Speaker 1

好的。

Sure.

Speaker 1

我的背景也是土木工程专业的。

So my background is also a civil engineer by degree.

Speaker 1

我在拉斐特学院拿到了土木工程学士学位,又在哥伦比亚大学获得了土木工程硕士学位。

I have a BS in civil engineering from Lafayette College and a master's in civil engineering from Columbia University.

Speaker 1

这两所学校我都非常喜欢。

I enjoyed both of those schools very much.

Speaker 1

跟克里斯有点像,我也挺喜欢数学的。

And kinda similar to Chris, I I like math.

Speaker 1

我喜欢科学。

I like science.

Speaker 1

我喜欢待在户外,看看外面的世界。

I like being outside, seeing things.

Speaker 1

这也促使我选择了土木工程。

That drove me into civil engineering.

Speaker 1

而且我一头扎进去就爱上了它。

And I I just fell in love with it.

Speaker 1

我是说,我真的对它着迷了。

I mean, I really did fall in love with it.

Speaker 1

在土木工程领域待了一段时间后,我意识到我们土木工程师的一个弱点,不是所有人都有,但很多人都有,就是软技能不足。

And after being in the civil engineering world for a while, I realized that one of the weaknesses that we have as civil engineers, not necessarily all of us, but a lot of us, is our soft skills.

Speaker 1

也就是表达能力、有效沟通、建立人脉、维系关系以及领导力。

Is the ability to speak, communicate effectively, network, build relationships, be a leader.

Speaker 1

所以我决定做出改变。

And so what I decided to do was try to change that.

Speaker 1

于是我去进修,考取了认证教练资格,专门做高管教练。

And I went to school to become a certified coach, an executive coach.

Speaker 1

如果你不清楚高管教练是做什么的,简单来说,他们是一对一地辅导个人或者团队,帮他们把潜力发挥到最大。

And if you don't know what an executive coach is, they work with individuals or organizations kind of one on one to maximize potential.

Speaker 1

所以我在做土木工程师的同时,也做了这份工作。

So I did this while I was working as a civil engineer.

Speaker 1

后来,我干脆直接在办公室里开始给同事们做教练培训和辅导。

And then I actually started doing coaching and training with the civil engineers right in our office.

Speaker 1

那对我来说是一段非常棒的经历。

And it was an amazing experience for me.

Speaker 1

我亲眼看到,只要稍微改变一点小细节,土木工程师就能在客户和项目上取得大得多的成功。

I saw how much just little things if you change a little thing, a civil engineer had so much more success with a client, with a project.

Speaker 1

所以五年前,虽然做了个艰难的决定,我还是辞去了土木工程师的工作,写了一本叫《工程成就你的成功》的书。

And so while it was a tough decision for me about five years ago, I left my civil engineering career and wrote a book called Engineering Your Own Success.

Speaker 1

从那以后,我走遍世界各地,也跑遍了全美,这才结识了Chris。我们在圣路易斯见面时特别投缘,从那以后就成了朋友。

And since that time, have traveled all over the world, all over The US, which brought me to meet Chris, which was awesome when we met in Saint Louis and we've become friends since then.

Speaker 1

我现在和别人合作,一起帮助工程师们共同成长。

I've now partnered up to kinda help engineers succeed together.

Speaker 1

我和克里斯做了很多事,但我们骨子里还是地道的土木工程师。

And, you know, we we do a lot of things, Chris and I, but we're really truly civil engineers at heart.

Speaker 1

我们真心热爱土木工程。

We love civil engineering.

Speaker 1

我们喜欢看到各种项目落地,看到一切成真。

We love seeing the projects, seeing everything.

Speaker 1

正因如此,我们才一路走到了一起。

And that drove us kinda into this together.

Speaker 1

现在我想简单聊一聊,我们为什么要做这个播客。

And what I wanna do now is just to jump in a little bit and and kinda talk about why we're starting this podcast.

Speaker 1

这显然是个非常小众的播客。

It's a really niche podcast, obviously.

Speaker 1

专门讲土木工程的播客。

The civil engineering podcast.

Speaker 1

我还有另一个播客。

And I have another podcast.

Speaker 1

其实,我和克里斯共同主持另一个叫《工程师职业教练》的播客。

Actually, Chris and I co host another podcast called The Engineering Career Coach.

Speaker 1

我大约一年半前创办了这个节目,克里斯最近才加入成为联合主持人。

I started it about eighteen months ago and Chris joined on just recently as a co host.

Speaker 1

这个节目做得非常成功。

And the show's done tremendously.

Speaker 1

我的意思是,我们有成千上万的下载量,但经常有人问我,安东尼,你能不能在播客里多讲讲土木工程的具体内容?

I mean, we have thousands and thousands of downloads, but what I often get from people is, Anthony, can you go into some more detail on civil engineering stuff on your podcast?

Speaker 1

另一个播客内容比较宽泛,主要面向工程师的个人和职业发展。

And and the other podcast is really more general for engineers on personal professional development.

Speaker 1

所以我心想,不如这样吧。

So I said, you know what?

Speaker 1

既然这么多人希望听到更多土木工程的内容,不如我们再开一个专门聚焦这个领域的播客。

Why don't we start another podcast focused really to hone in on civil engineering since there's been so much so many requests for it.

Speaker 1

所以这也是其中一个原因。

So that's one of the reasons.

Speaker 1

说实话,另一个原因是我和Chris真的特别热爱土木工程,就像我之前说的。

Honestly, another reason is Chris and I are just real passionate about civil engineering, like I said.

Speaker 1

Chris最近去欧洲度假,还不断给我发照片,拍的是他看到的那些穹顶啊、建筑啊,这些正是我们平时聊的话题。

I mean, Chris was on vacation recently in Europe and he's texting me pictures of, you know, the the the domes and the stuff he's seeing and these are the kind of things that we talk about.

Speaker 1

那为什么不把这些内容搬到节目里,和大家分享呢?

So why not talk about them on the air and be able to share them with all of you.

Speaker 1

再者,我觉得每个行业都该有提升自己的途径,土木工程领域完全也应该有个专门的播客来帮大家做到这一点。

Another reason is I think every profession should have the ability to better themselves, and there's no reason that there can't be a specific podcast and outlet for civil engineers to to do that.

Speaker 1

我希望你们也认同这一点,也希望你们能收听我们的节目,从中获得这些启发和有用的信息。

And and I hope that you agree, and I hope that you'll tune in and try to get some of this inspiration information that we're gonna have and and make available to you.

Speaker 1

我们想做这个节目的另一个原因,是想把那些活跃在一线的土木工程项目和工程师们展现出来。

Another reason that we wanna do this is because we want to highlight the civil engineering projects and professionals that are out there.

Speaker 1

世界上有太多了不起的土木工程案例,也有太多出色的土木工程师,这些正是我们想深入探讨的内容。

There are so many amazing civil engineering projects around the world and there are so many amazing civil engineering professionals and and that's what we wanna dive into.

Speaker 1

所以,这就是我们启动这个节目的部分原因。

So that's kind of some of the reasons we're starting.

Speaker 1

克里斯,你还有什么要补充的吗?

Chris, anything you wanna add on that?

Speaker 2

没有。

No.

Speaker 2

你真是说到点子上了。

I think you really hit the hit the nail on the head.

Speaker 2

我觉得,对听众来说,甚至对我们自己而言,能跟这些土木工程领域的思想领袖和行业专家展开对话,简直太棒了。

I think it's the opportunity for the listeners and even for ourselves to be able to have discussions with some of these thought leaders and industry leaders in civil engineering is just going to be fabulous.

Speaker 2

现在发生的事情太多了。

There's so much going on.

Speaker 2

这个行业和职业道路实在太丰富了,确实,你说得对。

It's such a rich profession and career path for a person to follow that, yeah, just yeah, you're right.

Speaker 2

这真的很令人兴奋。

It's exciting.

Speaker 2

我知道,安东尼和我之前聊过一些要邀请的嘉宾,他已经完成了几场采访。

I know that, you know, Anthony and I have had some conversations about guests that are going be coming on to the show, and he's already done a few of the interviews.

Speaker 2

我们请来的嘉宾覆盖了土木工程领域内各种各样的职业活动。

And we've got, you know, people who have you know, they're really across the entire spectrum of professional activities within civil engineering.

Speaker 2

从私营部门到政府机构,再到非营利组织和大型项目,都有涉及。

So everything from private sector to to the government, nonprofits, to mega projects.

Speaker 2

没错。

Yeah.

Speaker 2

这简直是一幅丰富多彩的画卷,我特别期待我们接下来会走向哪里。

There's just a there's a it's a rich, rich canvas, and and I'm really looking forward to to where we're gonna be taking it.

Speaker 1

是的。

Yeah.

Speaker 1

一定会非常有趣。

It's gonna be a lot of fun.

Speaker 1

最后再简单说一句,这一集只是个简短的 introductory 前言。

And just in closing for this final episode, again, this is just a short introductory episode.

Speaker 1

我们的每期节目时长通常在三十到六十分钟之间。

Our episodes typically probably run anywhere from thirty to sixty minutes.

Speaker 1

我们计划每周三早上九点(东部时间)发布新节目。

We plan to publish the episodes on Wednesday mornings 9AM eastern time.

Speaker 1

我们会尽量坚持这个更新时间。

We're we're gonna do our best to stick to that schedule.

Speaker 1

我们一定会做到这一点。

We're gonna commit to that.

Speaker 1

我想和克里斯一起跟大家说清楚,这个播客就是为你们土木工程师打造的。

And what I wanna say, and I think Chris and I wanna get across to you, that this is a podcast for you as a civil engineer.

Speaker 1

你们在节目中能期待什么,又能从中获得什么?首先就是积极参与。

So what you can expect on the show and also how you hopefully can benefit from it is, one is to get involved.

Speaker 1

节目会有一个开场环节,介绍某个土木工程项目,接着是访谈环节,通常我们会采访一位成功的土木工程师,甚至可能是年轻的工程师,聊聊他们的职业道路和成长经历。

So the show is gonna have a beginning segment where we're gonna feature some kind of civil engineering project, and then kind of a interview segment where we're gonna typically interview a successful civil engineer, maybe even a young civil engineer, talk a little bit about their path and their journey.

Speaker 1

但我们更希望你们能把自己的项目提交给我们。

But we want you to submit to us your projects.

Speaker 1

我们希望你能告诉我们,你希望我们采访哪位工程师。

We want you to tell us about someone you want us to interview on the show.

Speaker 1

如果你访问 civilengineeringpodcast.com,就能通过这个页面直接提交推荐。

And if you go to civilengineeringpodcast.com, you're gonna have the ability to do that all through that page.

Speaker 1

我们非常期待收到你的建议,因为节目一开始会介绍一些全球知名的土木工程项目。

And that's something that we really would love to get from you because we're we're gonna start the show by highlighting some very famous civil engineering projects around the world.

Speaker 1

但我们的核心理念是真正以听众为中心,这一点我们非常认真。

But the idea of this is to be really listener focused, and we're we're serious about that.

Speaker 1

同时,我们也希望这个节目能给你带来启发。

Also, we hope to inspire you with the show.

Speaker 1

我们想把那些有代表性的项目和工程师带进来,如果你每周坚持听这些故事,相信它们会潜移默化地影响你,让你在职业生涯中真正有所突破。

We wanna get these projects and engineers on here that if you continue week in and week out to hear about these stories, hope that it's really gonna rub off on you and you're gonna be able to implement some things in your career that's gonna really transform it.

Speaker 1

我们认为,这非常重要。

And we think that that's big.

Speaker 1

另外,你还可以期待这个节目具有全球视野。

And really, I think the other thing about this show that you can expect is for it to be global.

Speaker 1

这正是我特别期待的一点。

And that's one of the things I'm really excited about.

Speaker 1

我知道克里斯也特别兴奋。

I know Chris is super excited about.

Speaker 1

他就要搬去欧洲了。

I mean, he is relocating over to Europe.

Speaker 1

这样一来,我们邀请的嘉宾和能聊的项目就多了很多可能性。

And I think that gives us so much flexibility in the guests we can have, the projects we can talk about.

Speaker 1

有时候,我们还会亲自去项目现场。

And even from time to time, we will visit project sites.

Speaker 1

带着录音设备过去,直接在现场录制节目内容。

And we'll actually go out there with a recorder, and we'll do the project segment of the show on-site.

Speaker 1

我和克里斯都经常出差,能去不少有意思的地方。

Chris and I both have the ability to travel quite a bit, and we get to go to some pretty interesting places.

Speaker 1

这也是我们想为节目带来的一个亮点。

So that's something that we also wanna bring to the table.

Speaker 1

最后,我们一直在想办法把节目做得更好。

And I think lastly, we're always looking to improve the show.

Speaker 1

虽然这只是我们的第一期,但已经全身心投入进来了。

So while this is just our first episode, we're diving into it.

Speaker 1

任何时候,你都可以访问 civilengineeringpodcast.com。

Please at any time, you can feel free to go to civilengineeringpodcast.com.

Speaker 1

在那里你可以联系我们,告诉我们你的任何想法。

You'll be able to contact us there and let us know anything that you want.

Speaker 1

网站上有个‘提问’入口,你可以直接录下问题发给我们。

There's an ask us tab where you can literally record a question for us.

Speaker 1

也可以填表写下你的问题,我们会尽量在节目中回答,或者采纳你的建议改进节目。

You can there's a form to type in a question for us, and we'll try to answer your question on the show or just implement your recommendations onto the show.

Speaker 1

克里斯,我们在结束第一期之前,你还有什么想补充的吗?

Chris, anything else you wanna add before we wrap up our first episode here?

Speaker 2

各位听众,就像安东尼说的,如果你有正在参与的项目,或者想了解的工程案例,又或者有想采访的土木工程师,但又不好意思主动联系,随时给我们留言。

For those of you that are out there listening, like Anthony said, if you've got got ideas about projects that you're working on or that you're involved in or that you just wanna hear more about or a civil engineer professional that's out in the industry that you would love to talk with but you're not you don't feel comfortable reaching out to them on your own, send us a note.

Speaker 2

告诉我们是谁,或者是什么项目,我们会专门聊聊。

Let us know who it is and or what the project is and we'll have a we'll have a conversation.

Speaker 1

对的。

Yeah.

Speaker 1

别觉得你的项目太小了。

And and don't think your project's too small.

Speaker 1

可能就是一个小人行桥。

I mean, could be a footbridge.

Speaker 1

每个项目你都能学到东西。

I mean, every project you can learn something from.

Speaker 1

我和克里斯都深有体会。

I mean, Chris and I both know that.

Speaker 1

人行桥上的一个小细节,说不定能帮到建大桥的人,因为再小的点都可能被放大。

There's something on a footbridge can help someone building, you know, a massive bridge because it's just one little thing can can be amplified.

Speaker 1

所以别怕提交小项目或大项目,我们都想听,想在节目里分享,也想让节目真正围绕听众展开。

So don't be afraid to submit something that's a small project, big project, whatever it might be, we wanna hear about it, we wanna feature it on the show, and we wanna again, wanna make it very listener focused.

Speaker 1

好了,感谢您收听这一期节目。

So with that, thank you for tuning in for this first episode.

Speaker 1

希望您能在 iTunes 上订阅我们,网站上也会有详细指南,教您怎么订阅节目、怎么给我们打分评价,如果您喜欢这个节目,帮忙推广一下,对我们来说真的特别重要,我们也非常期待。

I hope you'll subscribe on iTunes, and we will also have something on the website that can kinda walk you through subscribing to the show, how to subscribe, and also how to leave us a review on iTunes, will be helpful if you do enjoy the show to start to get the word out there about it, which we're excited about.

Speaker 1

最后我想说,土木工程这个领域真的很精彩,从事土木工程职业也一样充满魅力。

And I guess the last thing I'll say is the world of civil engineering is fascinating, and a civil engineer career can be a fascinating one.

Speaker 1

克里斯和我都希望,通过这个节目,能帮您走上最理想的土木工程职业道路。

And Chris and I hope that through this show, we can help you to have the best possible civil engineering career that you can have.
