What's up, everybody?
Welcome back to the Draymond Green Show.
On today's show, it's time that we preview the NBA draft because the NBA season is over, and it's draft time.
We're about a week away from these guys.
Lives change forever, so let's get right into that.
However, before I go into the draft talk, there's clearly, everyone now has an opinion on whether you should shake hands after a series or not.
And, you know, the problem I have well, I don't have a problem because people's opinions are what they are, and everybody's entitled to one.
Everybody has one.
However, the issue with what I see people saying is I just feel like people are picking and choosing and splitting hairs so much on what's what.
Like, what's great in the NBA, what's not great in the NBA.
I feel like people are just splitting hairs.
Because number one, actually, I never said anything about sportsmanship.
So everybody's like, oh, man.
Sportsmanship is overrated or sportsmanship, who cares?
I just lost.
I'm mad.
I don't wanna talk to you.
That's actually the issue I have is I'm mad.
I don't wanna talk to you right now because I just lost.
That's actually like, everybody's trying to point to sportsmanship, but that wasn't the point.
The point was actually what everyone's saying, which is I'm mad.
I don't wanna talk.
And that's okay.
Except what I said was, look your killer in his eyes and say whatever it is that you wanna say.
But look your killer in his eyes, is what I said.
So what I said is more about a competitive advantage.
What I said is more about a competitive edge, not sportsmanship.
I don't give a shit about sportsmanship.
I am the same guy that said the unwritten rules of not scoring a basketball because you're ahead is ridiculous.
I am the same guy who's been ejected a million times and suspended.
And I'm the same guy.
You think I give a damn about sportsmanship?
I don't care about sportsmanship.
What I care about is we just played a series.
It's the only time in the NBA where I can play you up to seven times in a row.
Barely seven times in a year for that matter, unless you start me.
But it's the only time that I can play you seven times in a row.
Because I can play you seven games in a row, usually, the best man wins.
Usually.
Every now and then, some things happen, but usually, the best man, best team wins.
You know why?
Because I'm playing you seven games in a row.
And at some point within game three or game four, you know me and I know you.
Now what?
And that's what the playoffs come down to.
That's what the NBA finals comes down to is you know me, and I know you.
Now what?
Now who's gonna do the extra to get us over humped?
Now who's gonna do everything it takes re in regards of you know what play I'm running.
I know what play you're running.
You know how we guarding this.
I know how you're guarding it.
Like, these things happens during playoff series.
And when you get to the NBA finals, it's it happens at the highest level.
One thing I can assure you is a guy who's never played in the NBA finals but has played in the playoffs, even the conference finals, has no clue the level that is taking place within the NBA fine during the NBA finals.
Have no idea.
Within that, I just went mano y mano with this man for seven games or up to seven games, four games, five games in a row, whatever it is that the series go, we just went at it.
If I'm mad because I lost, do something about it.
But the time to do something about it actually isn't to walk off the court.
Because you had a chance to do something about it, and you lost.
So to walk off the court to me, it it that ain't about sportsmanship.
That's about we just looked each other in the eyes five, six, seven games in a row.
And now that I beat you, you're afraid to look me in my eyes.
Remember what I said.
If you leave, I own you.
I own you.
Because you're afraid you look me in my eyes for five games, six games, seven games straight.
And then once you realized, damn, you couldn't beat me, you ran off.
You couldn't even look me in my eyes anymore.
I own you.
That ain't got nothing to do with sportsmanship.
That has everything to do with winning.
That's what that has to do with winning.
Because when you run off the court, it exposes a certain character when you can't look your killer in his eyes.
Because what if you run into that killer again?
What if you run into him again?
Don't be playing against me.
Because you know what I'm a say?
Oh, you can look me in my eyes again.
Oh, so you got a chance to win.
Now you can look me in my eyes.
But when you lost, you couldn't.
Okay.
Mind games.
Trust me.
Play them at the highest level.
They're important.
Mind games.
Yo.
砰。
Bang.
So now, you know what that guy's thinking?
Oh, man.
唉。
Man.
We lost last time.
God, he tried to get him this time.
Now you adding pressure to yourself.
Oh, man.
You get uptight.
People deal with pressure different.
You get loose.
People deal with handle pressure differently.
But not all of those things come into play.
And let me tell you, when you're at the highest level, you need the least amount of those things to come into play.
The least amount.
You need those the least amount of those things to come into play.
When you start adding extra uphill battles, extra battles on your uphill incline, they get tough.
And guess what?
I said, you start to see teams go the wrong way.
Because what that says to me is when you run off and you can't face me, it's front runner behavior.
That's what it says to me.
When we were playing the Clippers all those years, we always thought we we we owned them because we thought they had front runner behavior.
When we was playing the Rockets, we thought we owned them because we thought they had front runner behavior.
When it's going great, it's going great.
When it's going bad, splinter.
That's front runner behavior.
And once we know you got front runner behavior, you ain't beating us.
You're not beating us.
Ain't happening.
You look at the teams we lost to.
Lost in the final Toronto, zero front runner behavior.
Cleveland, zero front runner behavior.
Front runner behavior always gets exposed at one point or another.
You can't have front runner behavior.
It does not win in this league.
And running off the court after you lose in a series is front runner behavior.
And here's why it's front runner behavior.
And who gives a fuck about sportsmanship?
I don't care about sportsmanship.
Here's why it's front runner behavior.
It's front runner behavior because if you won and those guys that lost try to shake your hand, you're gonna stand there and shake that hand proudly.
You're gonna stand there and shake the hand proudly.
You're gonna look the guy you killed in his eyes proudly.
I killed you.
I'm your killer.
I'm a look you in your eyes proudly.
I've never seen anyone win the championship and someone go to shake their hand and they like, I don't wanna shake your hand.
I'm upset.
Nope.
We ain't seen that, Nope.
What we did see is fuck it.
Happy motherfucker come shake their hand.
Oh, man.
Thank you, bro.
It was great.
But when you lose, it's now considered sportsmanship, and you don't have to have it.
Well, I agree.
You don't have to have sportsmanship.
Who gives a shit?
However, these same very people that are talking all of this about how sportsmanship don't matter are the same very people that when I do something to a sportsman like, it's, yo, he should get thrown under the jail.
He should get suspended indefinitely.
He should get suspended for 25 games.
I've seen one of them say.
He should be suspended at least 25 games for doing something unsportsmanlike.
But then these very people say, sportsmanship is overrated.
It don't matter.
In the nineties, they ain't shake nobody's hand.
In the nineties, they also will fucking clothesline you in the game.
Go on.
Let me clothesline somebody.
In the February, Let me close line somebody.
Guess what we gonna do?
Call for Draymond Head.
That's so unsportsmanlike.
But now when the young guys walk off the court, when the Frenchmen walk off the court, you ain't gotta show no sportsmanship.
But when you do something unsportsmanlike, they calling for your head.
By the way, when he came into these playoffs as the darling, he left these playoffs as the villain.
Why?
Because he done some unsportsmanlike things.
Oh, shit.
Woah.
喂。
Hey.
You know, the league gave Wendy a break.
They did this.
Why they give him a break?
Because he did some unsportsmanlike thing.
Oh, sportsmanship don't matter.
Oh, we hate Wimby because he did it or that.
Well, goddamn it.
Can we pick a side?
Can we pick a path?
Unsportsmanlike, sportsmanlike.
Can we pick one?
Or can they all just be okay?
But if they're all gonna be okay when I fucking clothesline someone next year, don't say, hey, up.
Draymond, up to it again.
He gotta get suspended.
Because remember, sportsmanship is overrated, except I wasn't talking sportsmanship.
But if that's what y'all wanna talk, then let's really talk sportsmanship.
But we can't say sportsmanship is overrated if, in fact, when I lay somebody down, y'all gonna call for my head.
We can't you can't be the same people saying sportsmanship is overrated.
I don't have to shake.
You can't be those same people.
They you gotta live somewhere.
Can't be a nomad on these things.
So I'm kinda sick of it because it the goalpost just moves and moves and moves.
Like, there's no structure to anything.
There's no like, how does it just move like that?
I kid you not.
If you think I'll I'll close line somebody first game next year.
I guarantee you they'd be on TV the next day like, oh, he need to be suspended.
He never learned his lesson.
He in year 15 and never learned his lesson.
没错。
No.
But sportsmanship is so it's overrated.
Well, that's sportsmanship.
It's overrated.
So let's not talk sportsmanship because we know how all of you really feel about that.
Y'all have shown me.
So we know.
So we'll go back to looking your killer in his eyes.
And if you can't look his your killer in his eyes, that ain't got nothing to do with sportsmanship.
That got something to do with I embarrassed you, I own you, and you can't see me.
Well, I've seen guys turn into that and never win, never get back.
Never get back.
I've seen guys do it.
So a lot of people talking.
They never won.
If you talking and you never won, then your opinion is one-sided because you don't know how it feel to win.
You only know how it feel to lose.
You only know I was a little upset because I lost.
I didn't wanna talk to anybody because they beat me.
So I was a little upset, but you never experience winning.
And I guarantee you if you experience winning, you ain't turning down that handshake.
You ain't turning down the handshake.
So let's not promote front running.
That ain't good.
Front runners lose.
Let's not promote front running.
It'll never work.
Now let's get into the NBA Draft.
Hopefully, these young guys listening and know that the one thing you don't wanna do is you don't wanna come into the NBA and be labeled a fucking front runner.
You do not wanna come into this league and be labeled a front runner.
Period.
So now we'll get into the NBA draft.

Before we get into the draft, the actual draft, I saw that Thomas Haugh, a young fellow from Florida, talked about me helping him with his draft decision.
I can't take that credit.
However, one thing I've always appreciated is trying to help young guys see the bigger picture, trying to help young guys see the business for what it is.
Just overall trying to share my experience with younger guys.
And Will, Richard, my my rook, he reached out to me.
You know, Thomas is is his young fellow.
And he reached out to me and he said, man, Draymond, my young fellow wants some draft advice.
And Will comes to me for a lot of things.
I think Will keep a notebook of like things you tell him, which is incredible.
He's a sponge.
He came to me.
He's like, you know, my young fella gonna call me.
He wants some draft advice.
What are you thinking?
And he was and and, you know, we started talking about, like, the number he could possibly get if he went back.
And when he told me the number that he would get, meaning the number in millions that he'd make if he stayed at Florida.
I was like, oh, no question.
You should go back.
Once we got on the phone with Thomas, the number was actually higher than Will actually thought or had told me it was.
Once he told me the number was higher, my answer was already like, yeah, bro.
Go back to school.
But once he told me the number was higher, it was even more of a no brainer to go back to school.
But number one, Thomas grew up a Florida Gator fan.
Family are big time Gator fans.
And so Florida's his dream school.
He's won a national championship there.
Gonna come back next year and have an opportunity to win a second national championship possibly, possibly compete for a national player of the year and a much weaker draft.
And he's gonna make really good money.
That's $10.99 income as opposed to w two income that NBA players make.
And he's gonna solidify himself as one of the greatest Gators ever for a guy who grew up in a family of Gator fans.
I just don't know how it gets much better than that.
Again, in a much weaker draft where he could possibly even raise his draft stock even more next year.
One thing I told him, alright.
Now but you gotta go do the work.
You have to come back next year better than you are right now.
So you gotta go do the work.
But I think it's the right decision to go back to school.
Like, I I can't tell you what's the right decision.
But and just listening to everything you say and the amount of all the circumstances around it, I think going back to school is is is a great decision.
And we had that conversation ultimately.
I don't think I was the reason daddy went back to school, but I I'm always happy to try to help.
Any young guy I can help in in whether it's decision making, some advice, whatever it is, I'm always happy to do it.
So I was happy to to talk to Thomas and kinda share some thoughts with him and happy that Will trusted me with his, you know, his young fellow.
It's fun.
It's a fun process.
But definitely wanna wish Thomas good luck this year as he, you know, as he it's a big decision to make.
I don't think people realize, you know, or recognize how big those decisions are, but it's a very big decision to make.
And, you know, he he went back.
I hope he have a great year.
Praying for his health.
Incredible.
And and build that draft stock up even higher because I think he's more than capable of doing that.
Now we will get into the NBA draft.
First four picks, Washington, Utah, Memphis, and Chicago.
Consensus top four all year, all along has been AJ DeVonza, Darren Peterson, Cam Boozer, and Caleb Wilson.
Incredible.
Absolutely incredible top four.
It's one of those drafts where Washington, you're lucky, but you're a bit unlucky.
And the reason you're a bit unlucky but lucky is because the draft's so great that the two, three, or fourth the second, third, or fourth pick, the two or three teams behind you are essentially gonna get to draft a player by default based on what Washington get in.
Then Memphis will get to draft one of players by default or based on what what Utah does, and Chicago will be draft one of the guys on default based on what the top three does.
And sometimes it just works better for the person that drafts by default.
We've seen it over the years.
Saw it with Greg Olden and Kevin Durant.
We've seen this now on several different occasions of, man, they took that guy.
Alright.
Well, I'm a go with this one.
And this one pans out to be more than that one.
It happens.
There's been a consensus that or not a consensus, but a lot of people think AJ DeBos is going number one.
And a lot of people have said Darren Peterson's going number two.
Now there's been an interesting monkey wrench thrown in the mix, which is Darren Peterson decided he wasn't working out for Utah.
He only worked out for Washington and Memphis.
Let me tell you all something.
The Utah Jazz know everything they want and need to know about Darren Peterson.
They don't give a shit whether he come in there and work out or not.
Ask Steph Curry.
Steph Curry did not work out for the Golden State Warriors, did not wanna go to Golden State, worked out for the teams around Golden State, and asked them not to draft him.
Eighteen years later, he's been with that same team the whole time.
So it don't really matter if he work out for them or not.
If they wanna drive Darren Peterson when it comes to their comes time for their pick, they're gonna drive Darren Peterson.
They don't give a shit how he works out.
They know enough.
So, however, I think people are making a little bit more of that of what necessarily it means.
It really doesn't mean anything.
Now of these top four guys, I think they're all special talents.
I think AJ DeBonsa is the man child.
He is the one that's like everything ready.
Physically, seems like he has the mentals, been preparing for this for so long.
这就是AJ DeBosso。
Like, that's AJ DeBosso.
Darren Peterson
Darren Peterson has this skill level that you only see every so often.
Only a few guys have.
A very, very special skill level.
Elite shot maker, tough shot taker, eat and tough shot maker.
However you want it, he can get you a buck as smooth as hell, like super silky smooth.
Cam Boozer is probably a twenty ten guy from the time he walked in.
But does he have the potential that everyone looks for in the number one pick?
I don't know that he doesn't.
He wins, and he's fundamentally sound Tim Duncan never had to blow you through the roof, yet he was so great.
He's one of the greatest players we've ever seen.
But it wasn't like gonna jump off the page at you from a from a entertainment standpoint.
So call it low on entertainment value of it, but very high on the production value of it.
And I think that was Tim Duncan.
And you look at Cam Boozer, he has a similar theme.
Not saying Cam Boozer's gonna be Tim Duncan.
I don't know that.
Tim Duncan's greatest power forward we've ever seen play.
But what I'm saying, it's not like there's no wow to it.
It's just results after results after results after results.
And then you got Caleb Wilson.
And I actually think Caleb Wilson may be the most special of the group.
Caleb Wilson is so good, and I think he's still clumsy.
Like, I think he's still clumsy and can't really walk and chew gum at the same time, and yet he's already that good right now.
So if this guy is still clumsy and he's that good right now already, man, what happens when he continue to grow into this body and he ain't clumsy no more?
He don't even some you watch him play.
Some of the stuff he'd be doing, he don't even realize he don't even seem like he realized what he's doing.
He just doing it.
I think Caleb Wilson could potentially be the best player in this draft.
Saw people saying, like, his floor was Paul Millsap, and his ceiling was Kevin Garnett.
And no disrespect to KG.
KG's probably top three power four we've ever seen in our lifetime.
KG is man, what?
Tenacity, all of that.
I think Caleb Wilson.
Now, obviously, you gotta do the work, and he ain't gonna walk in like this.
But the type of talent he is, barring that he goes to do the work, the type of talent I actually think his floor is Kevin Garnett.
And, man, if that's your floor, oh my god.
You know how great KG was?
I actually think Caleb Wilson Kevin Garnett could be his floor.
That's how special I think Caleb Wilson is.
So that top four, someone's gonna get a great guy, great player, transcendent by default because of who someone else drafted.
And those are always fun to do the redrafts and look back and be like, man, they went with this guy.
Needless to say, very pleased with the top of his class.
It's incredible.
I'll never forget going to see Braymond Barry's play against Tyrus Stokes a couple years ago.
And Travis Walden said to me, he said, man, he, you know, he the number ten, eleven player in the country.
I said, Trav, I watched Braymond play.
I said, man, you telling me it's 10 guys better than him?
Now I see why.
Class, especially at the top is is insane.

The summer heat completely changes how I dress.

So you get rid get out of those four guys, and it's still very strong.
But then you got kind of a group of guards, Keaton Wagner, Darius Acuff, Mike L Brown Mike L Brown, Kingston Flemings, Braden Barrys.
Then you start to get into that group.
Yaxo Landenburg would be in that mix.
Nate Ament, a lot of people are putting in that mix of next kind of wave of guys.
Ade Mara from Michigan has been thrown into that mix.
And quite honestly, I think all these young guys, you know, the reality is all of them won't make it.
That's just the nature of this business win.
All of them won't make it.
And I'm very big on Darius Acuff Junior, as you all know.
I think he with his shot making ability, his playmaking ability, his temperament, change of speed, like, think size, strength, all that.
I think all of that bodes well for him being a starting point guard in this league for a long time.
So I'm very high on him, and I'm also very high on Braden Burrows.
I think Braden Burrows at Arizona and this is no disrespect to Arizona.
This is just how it happens in college when you go on better teams.
I think I think Braden Burrows didn't as as good of a year as he ultimately end up having.
I don't think he even scratched the surface of showing people what he's actually capable of.
Like, I think if you if you've only seen Braden Burry's at Arizona, you actually have no idea how good this kid is.
I think this kid is special.
And so Braden Burry's, you know, he's been a late riser into the top 10 conversation, but I I I think he's special.
I truly, in my heart, believe Braden Burry is special.
Audacy Marr.
Over the last couple years, we've seen the Zach Edies, you know, where they're starting back drafting big man high.
You know, I think of DeMar, we see him go off the board top 15.
I don't think he gets past the 12 or 13 pick.
I don't think he gets past 12.
You know, he's been great, have having some great workouts, shooting the ball really well.
Nate Amitt seems to be the guy that everyone's like, yo, you gotta take a swing on this kid.
He's either gonna be boom or bust.
And, you know, I think, you know, with his length, skill set, he could be one of the players that are better in the NBA than they are at the college game.
The college game is a different game.
And there are some guys that just leave college and they're better their game is better suited in the NBA than it is in college.
I think that's what's I think that has to be some innate, immense deal.
Like, I think the NBA may be a better game for him than college was.
College is extremely physical.
The NBA isn't as physical.
At times, it is.
But throughout the course of the season, it's not as physical.
You know?
So I think for him, you know, college could possibly be tougher for him than the NBA.
His skill may be able to shine through more in the NBA.
So I think Nate immense a very interesting prospect.
Morris Johnson junior, you know, a guy who really benefited a ton from the combine, had a great year at Michigan.
A lot of teams have grown comfortable with him coming in and contributing right away, especially on a defensive end.
You know, I think a lot of people feel like he can move well enough to where they're not hell bent or overly worried that he's a six nine center because if you develop that jump shot and develop his game with the way he defends, you can slide him over to the four.
And so, you know, he's benefited himself really, really well throughout this predraft process.
Then you got New Zealand breakers, Karim Lopez.
Likely the first foreign player off the board.
I mean, excluding Adeymar who but he played in The States.
But Karim Lopez is probably the first born player off the board.
He averaged 17 16.7 points a game last year for the New Zealand breakers.
Listen.
I think when you go European, when you go Australia, I think you're always taking a risk on does the game translate.
I've watched Karim Lopez play, and I definitely think his game translates.
But that's ultimately usually the worry.
And it's subsided a bit with the success of the Europeans.
But early on, years ago, it used to be as such.
Like, if you kind of on the fence, People didn't know which way to go because it it it was just like Europeans, they are you know, some people say, oh, they're soft or they don't they're not fast enough.
I'm not strong enough.
It doesn't translate.
I think a lot of guys have shown it that it does translate and that that view is a little different, but there's still some skepticism at times.
One of the most surprised names that stayed in the draft was called Pete, who said he was bypassing his the rest of his eligibility at Arizona and heading into the NBA Draft.
And a lot of people are down on his shooting ability.
They say that it will drop him out of the of the lottery.
Listen.
One thing you can do is I I think you can you can work on a jump shot.
The things that does, I don't know that you can teach.
Being that size, being that explosive, being able to, you know, play different multiple positions, He can be a great dunker finisher in the NBA with his explosiveness and a great defender.
You know?
So and most importantly, I think a winner.
Cole Pete is a winner.
Plays winning basketball, makes winning basketball, plays.
So he may slide out the lottery.
He may drop in the twenties.
It it would actually be better for him if he did.
Because if he goes 27, that's a good team.
If he goes 24, it's a good team.
And for Cole Pete to his talents to shine through, you wanna see him on a good team.
So, ultimately, I think this was one of the more interesting ones of standing in the draft, but I do understand why he did it.
Jayden Quontons, who hasn't played a bunch over the last couple years due to ACL injury, played just four games this year due to that knee injury and and just taking some precautions.
He's one of the guys that you know, I've seen the physical traits and all of that, but I just haven't seen him play enough basketball for me to be comfortable saying he should be drafted or should.
I I just don't know enough about him because he's been hurt a lot, and I just haven't had the opportunity to see him play much.
And then lastly, you know, shout out to my seniors.
Yukon's Alex Caravan, Purdue's, Braden Smith, Arkansas's, Draymond, Brazil.
They're all projected to go on the second round.
Let me tell y'all something, fellas.
Ain't nothing wrong with it.
You get to the money faster, you just gotta go grind and take it.
Figure out where it is where you can add value the most, add the most value on a team and do that.
Lock in on that, focus on that, get better and better at that.
That will ultimately allow you the ability or opportunity to then go show what it is that you think you're great at.
And I think that that's all a part of buy in.
Sometimes that's why you see some guys struggling necessarily can't get over the hump because they don't necessarily take part in the buy in.
And so I think that's what, you know, guys have to do.
And so shout out to the guys projecting the second round that are seniors.
You're gonna get overlooked, but you are who you are for a reason.
And I'm I'm in your corner.
I know how it go.
You know, off all the time, everybody wanna say, oh, man.
Like, that guy's too old.
He been in college too long.
So you're saying I got some good experience, but they don't honor it most times.
So hopefully, you know, they honor these guys and the work that they put in because I respect it.
And it ain't go so bad for me.
