Welcome to the Grace Hours Show, a Christian program that takes a dive into our daily challenges and helps us learn our faith in a practical way.
My name is Jesse, and another round two, pastor Ronaldo Brown joining me.
And, this week, we have, a great overall arching topic on, habits, forming habits, or in other sense, convictions too as well.
So today, we get the habits or the conviction of meditation.
是的。
Mhmm.
And maybe to start us off, we'll read from, Psalm one that we have drawn some of it to, and we'll bounce around from certain scriptures and think about meditation.
And so let's read just Psalm one verse one.
Blessed is the man that walks not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor stands in the way of sinners, nor sits in the seat of the scornful.
But in verse two, but he delights his but his delight is in the law of the Lord.
And in the law does he meditate day and night.
Mhmm.
So first off, first question, what is meditation?
And then the second question is day and night.
Why do we have to do it day and night?
Why does the Psalms tell us to do it day and night?
So maybe we could talk about what is meditation, Pastor Ronaldo.
Great great thought.
Love it.
Love it.
Love it.
We live in a society right now where we're not asked to use our brain.
We live in a society right now where we're asked to use our emotions to feel.
I feel like if you listen to people talk all the time.
Like, they speak through their emotions.
When you speak through your emotions, you kind of paralyze your brain.
And when that becomes the practice, you practice not thinking.
So you're actually not absent minded.
You just dull minded because your brain is out of practice.
You don't on purpose intentionally think about things.
We say it randomly.
Let me think about it, but we don't think about it.
But we we live through our feelings and how we feel.
And that's hard processing life with through your feelings.
It's hard to make decisions because your emotions aren't designed to do that.
Meditation is a spiritual way to get your brain going in the right direction.
Meditation is a way to connect with God's mind.
Number one, you utilize your mind.
Number two, you touch God's mind.
And then number three, you put God's mind in your mind.
And that's meditation.
They they were called muses.
好的。
Okay.
From the the the word muse means to to think about or to to to think about and to amuse.
Amusement, we get our our our English word amuse means no thinking.
I wanna just go have fun, you know, which is great when you're four years old.
It's horrible when you're 44 years old.
It's depressing when you're 44 years old.
I wanna go have fun.
Like, lot of people, they just they live for the moment.
They wanna live in the excitement of of emotion, but they don't use their brain.
And most of the time, many of the challenges we face in life is because we don't think.
You would say that like, why didn't I think about that?
Because you're not in practice of thinking about that.
Or more importantly, as a believer, God has a mind about things.
Meditation is how I cultivate God's mind in my mind.
And if you notice the psalmist says, he says, not just thinking about God.
He's more specific.
He kind of narrows it, thinking about God through his word.
Because next to nature, the greatest revelation of who God is is found in the scriptures.
When God's mind goes in, that has a profound effect on how I live my life.
Galatians two twenty.
Right?
I live my life by the faith, by the doctrine.
Psalm one nineteen verse 11, how shall a man young man cleanse his ways?
By he I hide the word in my heart.
And in that application, it speaks about his thinking.
I think on the word of God.
And it seems as if the the psalmist in Psalm one nineteen is going through some tough things.
But he says, listen to these verses.
And by the way, notice the marriage in Psalm one verse two between delight and meditation.
How do I delight in the Lord?
I meditate on his word.
That's what this psalmist is saying.
And then again in Psalm one nineteen verse 15, all the way to verse fifteen and sixteen, I will meditate on thy precepts and regard thy way.
Next verse, I shall delight in thy statutes, and I shall not forget thy word.
Right?
Verse 23, even though princes sit and talk against me, thy servant meditates on thy statutes.
Verse 24, thy testimonies are my delight, and they are my counselor.
Verse 47, all from Psalm one nineteen, and I shall delight in thy commandments, which I love, which is why I delight.
So it's this constant invigoration of the word of God in my thinking that I delight, and it brings me to a place of stability.
I it's like, Matthew four four, man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from why is it important to live by the word?
Or Jeremiah fifteen sixteen, I did find that word and I did eat it, and what happened?
It was a rejoicing to my soul.
There is a profound effect in someone's life when they think or meditate on the word of God.
It's kinda like, one writer puts it this way, kind of a very popular metaphor, cows where they chew the cud.
是的。
Yeah.
They eat the food, then they kinda bring it back up and eat it again and just chew on it and get they get every they have four stomachs.
So they get every bit of nourishment out of that ball of grass.
Every bit of nourishment.
So it means, Psalm 62 verse 11, God spoke once I heard it.
But I heard it twice.
That's your first.
是的。
Yeah.
I love that.
I love that because I like the I
like the spiritual bring it back.
是的。
Yes.
Because most of us, hear the Bible, we read the Bible is hearing God, but to get it back, get it back, get it back.
Why?
Then men would know that power belongs to God.
So in meditation, it's important to rehearse God's mind because that's how you learn.
对。
Yeah.
The the the secret to learning is repetition.
Repetition is mental meditation.
It's like mental repetition.
I keep stimulating it in my mind.
And this week, we're talking about, okay, I want to improve the quality of my life as a believer.
I wanna add spiritual habits or convictions to my daily living that will enhance or increase the experience of God in my life.
How do I do that?
Meditation is one of them.
If you don't like the way you're thinking, you need to have God's mind in your thinking.
Right?
是的。
Yeah.
What does say in Philippians four eight?
Think on these things, which means I'm thinking on the wrong thing.
He says that Paul is in prison, by the way.
So we would give him the right to think poorly.
And most of us want justification for the way we think.
是的。
Yeah.
You did this to me, so I'm I wanna be I'm justified to hate you.
I'm justified to be angry.
不。
No.
God doesn't give space in his plan for me not to think with him.
He allows it, but he never says, you know what?
It's okay today.
You've had a tough day.
You don't have to think with me.
What he says is, you've had a rough day.
Now more than ever, you need to think with me.
So I need to learn how to think with God, not just to hear Romans ten seventeen, not just to hear, not just to read in first Timothy four thirteen, but to meditate Yeah.
To masticate, to intentionally decide to think about what God is saying.
And I think in a practical way, that can enhance my life.
That we talked about forgiveness yesterday.
That in a in a practical way, it can enhance the way these things will help me as a believer.
This is not a self help book.
This is not some deliverance sermon.
This is not some secret message.
This is not some anointing oil in a plastic bottle.
This is me as a regular guy, a regular Joe, living my life, working, going to school.
But in the middle of all of that, I'm thinking with God through his mind, through his word.
Mhmm.
He didn't say meditate on all the things that God he said meditate on God's word.
是的。
Yeah.
The word of God, the entrance of his word does what in Psalm one nineteen one thirty?
It gives light, and it gives understanding to the simple.
In fact, in Psalm one nineteen, in every verse but one, it mentions the word of God.
In every verse.
It's the longest psalm in the in the Psalms, And in every one, it's the word of God, the word of God, the word maybe he's on to something.
是的。
Yeah.
He's like, I'm going my life is rough.
Right?
But I'm with the word of God, that's my counsel.
Right?
That's gotta be.
And anybody that gives you spiritual counsel and doesn't use the Bible, don't trust them.
Then number two, they should give you the Bible in God's character.
But it's important that that the Bible be part of the way I think cause we live by the word of God.
Right?
是的。
Yeah.
And because and we're always thinking.
And if we're not meditating on a word, we're meditating on something.
当然。
Absolutely.
And like the world right now, like, views meditation as almost like an emptiness kind of like a peaceful tranquility, like empty the mind and calm and I'm not stressed and I'm not here.
I'm kind of just just me and me, myself and I, you know?
And, but this is saying something so different.
The the word, the Hebrew word is Hagah, h a g a.
And there's many meanings to this word.
And I love it because I always thought about meditation when I heard about it.
好的。
Okay.
It's meditation.
I'm sitting down.
I'm reading my Bible to myself Mhmm.
Maybe in my own mind, really, and just that's it.
And and what is much more than that, and the word even goes into reciting into Mhmm.
Saying it out loud, like meditating on it, and I'm speaking it, to the atmosphere.
And, and it's really a relationship with God.
Like, you're meditating, and I'm having a really I'm talking back and forth with God.
是的。
Mhmm.
And and that's beautiful because the psalmist says, like you says, I delight in it.
Like, I look forward to that time in the day when I come and I go before God and I'm talking with God and meditating on his word.
And I look forward to after a long day Mhmm.
To meditate on the word, you know, at the at night too as well.
So but I love it.
It's also speaking it too as well.
I think that's like, don't keep it to yourself.
It's just like, I wanna recite it.
I wanna rehearse it.
Say it out loud.
Reputation.
Reputation.
And as I keep speaking it and meditating on it, I think then it transforms.
It starts to do its work in me.
And That's good.
对。
Yeah.
And and you see in these verses, there's there's three other ways that they could hear.
Mhmm.
What is it?
And walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly.
对。
Right.
You know?
He could be there.
He could be standing in the way of sinners or sitting in the seat of the scornful.
But know his delight is in the law.
If I'm not delighting in the law, I could be sidetracked in a in a short way.
And so how many voices or how many different things from the outside are trying to get my attention Mhmm.
And keep me away from this meditation from God is what we're saying.
是的。
Yeah.
That's a good point.
It's like and going back to what you said earlier, we always think of meditation as this eastern transcendental separation.
You said it really good, the emptying of myself.
是的。
Yeah.
We say to people all the time, you got too much on your mind.
Empty your mind.
Here's the problem.
If you empty your mind, there's nothing.
In the vacuum, you have something.
We assume an empty mind is a healthy mind.
It's not.
Just because I I'm not gonna think about my problems doesn't restore me.
It doesn't give me peace.
It gives me denial.
Right?
That's what it gives me, really.
So Yeah.
Be careful that your quiet time is not too quiet.
是的。
Yeah.
I mean, that'd be, oh, I'm living my quiet time.
I drink my tension tamer tea.
Leave me alone.
I'm not thinking about it.
I put on crystals.
I put on my candle.
What do you do?
I'm emptying my mind and filling it with what?
Nothing.
That's unproductive.
That's unprofitable.
是的。
Yeah.
That's weird.
I have an empty mind with nothing.
不。
No.
God doesn't say empty your mind.
God says, think about my mind.
哇。
Wow.
That's the difference.
Biblical meditation is not an empty mind.
Biblical meditation is a mind that stayed on thee.
Right?
Isaiah 26, God will keep thee in perfect peace whose mind is what?
Stayed on thee.
That's meditation.
Not just forget about all your problem.
Forget about all your sin.
Forget forget.
Empty.
Empty.
Spiritual meditation is not six people in a room wearing a yoga outfit and humming in circles.
That's not the Bible.
That's not what meditation is.
When Christ was meditating, he didn't empty his mind.
The verse recorded earlier in Philippians four eight, Philippians two five, think a specific way.
That's the heart of meditation.
Number one, it's not only is it not thinking about anything else, but it's the it's to think a specific way about a specific person, God.
Think with God's mind.
Secondly, you hit something really good on the back part of what you said.
It's not a ritual.
I know sometimes with some of us with meditation, we have a certain period of time of day, like the but the right time is anytime.
Don't feel like I didn't get my half an hour with my tea and my bible and my granola in a corner.
I didn't get that.
Oh, I'm I'm my day is ruined.
It's not my spiritual cup of coffee.
Oh, I never have that.
Oh, I won't get through today.
不。
No.
不。
No.
不。
No.
不。
No.
You can have that, but understand the right time is anytime.
是的。
Yeah.
I'm in my car.
I've got a lunch break.
I can meditate with God.
Maybe it's a job that doesn't require me to focus on what I'm doing, so I can just do it and think with God about it.
But see it this way.
Don't see ritual.
Right?
Because ritual began with the purpose or an intention, but it loses it very quickly.
是的。
Yeah.
Rather see it as relationship, not ritual.
是的。
Yes.
See, it's like I have a relationship with God through his word.
So in the relationship, this is me connecting.
It's reconnecting.
Like, one of the toughest parts of a relationship with a person is communication.
Mhmm.
When the relationship is good, the communication is good.
When the relationship is bad, the communication is bad.
Like you see in Genesis 13, 16 at the end of Genesis 16 the beginning of Genesis 17, there's a thirteen and a half year gap where you have no recorded communication between Abraham and God.
Something was wrong.
What happened in chapter 16?
Ishmael happened.
So Eber made a bad choice, slept with Hagar, had Ishmael, and I guess he didn't wanna talk to God.
We don't know who didn't wanna talk to who, but there was no communication He got busy.
For thirteen years.
See, you say you're busy, but thirteen years?
I don't know what kind of herd you're breathing, but thirteen years of busy.
That's like that sounds like a, you don't you didn't call me.
Hey.
You said you would call me.
That was thirteen years ago.
I doesn't go.
But it was like, I want the relationship.
是的。
Yeah.
That's what meditation stimulates communication with God.
Meditation is is church on the fly.
Because we always see church as this location where I connect with God.
But as a believer priest, right, Revelation chapter one, I I as a believer priest, I can come before God.
Hebrews four sixteen.
As a believer priest, I can come to God.
I can boldly approach God.
I can commune with God.
How?
Prayer is a form of meditation Yeah.
In a way.
But I can just maybe not even just a prayer, just thoughts, thinking about God's thoughts.
Right?
Thinking with God's and introducing God's mind into my thinking.
Some of us are in the word of God.
We for church printed preaching.
Sometimes I I noticed in my own life, I'll be thinking about the Bible a lot, and then I'll sleep, and it'll be in my dreams.
The verse, whatever, will just come.
It'll be right there.
I'm like, wow.
是的。
Yeah.
It's invaded my thinking even in a subconscious way, the word of God begins to saturate.
Like, yeah, like imagine for a second, a shirt in a bucket of water.
You put the shirt in the water and you slowly most of us want spin cycle.
You you jump in there, you want that McDonald's super fast.
I open the Bible, read the Bible, and you run through, and we do that a lot.
Like, it's good to read the Bible, but be careful.
Slow it down.
Pump the brakes.
是的。
Yeah.
Don't read it so fast that there's no there's no opportunity to meditate on what you've read.
I would rather take one verse and chew it all day than read the whole chapter of it, the whole book of Isaiah.
是的。
Yeah.
So I can I read Isaiah, and what did you read?
I'm not sure.
It's like sometimes when you listen to the Bible being preached, you it's hard to mix faith with all of it.
是的。
Yeah.
It's like a forty five minute message.
You it's hard to connect with all of it, but you ask God this one thought.
God, give me something to chew on, A verse, a principle, a doctrine, and let me just spin that in my head and ask questions and say it slowly.
Even a Bible verse like, Jesus loves me.
Jesus loves me.
Jesus loves me.
Jesus loves me.
Just slow and slow mastication, meditation, turning it around in my head slowly.
That's you learn somebody's name.
You just kind of over and over repetition, slow, ask yourself a question.
Is Jesus?
He actually loves me?
What does that actually mean?
And me, do I deserve you just start meditating, then you have it.
Like, I can tell you right now, when I was younger, I used to try to memorize verses.
I'm horrible at it.
When I actually try to memorize a verse, I fall on my face.
Some guys are skillful.
They can remember.
I can't.
是的。
Yeah.
But if I think about it a lot, if I meditate on it Mhmm.
It's gold.
It's amazing how it comes.
It's amazing how it's there.
It because I've I've dedicated and committed myself to thinking about it.
And when anything gets in your thinking, just like temptation, when anything gets in your thinking, it moves your heart.
Moves your feet.
It moves you.
是的。
Yeah.
This is the power of that's why you've gotta be careful how you think.
对。
Yes.
When it says guard your heart in Proverbs four twenty three Yeah.
You're thinking about your emotions.
It's talking about your thinking.
对。
Yes.
Many times in the scriptures where the heart is mentioned, it's talking about the way the person thinks and chooses.
Guard your thinking.
Right?
Because the where does all sin begin?
In the mind.
What did Jesus say in Matthew five?
If a man thinketh adultery in his heart, he's committed it.
Just stop thinking it.
哇。
Wow.
So it's like, okay.
If my mind is dangerous, I wanna think with God.
First, what did we say?
We said, make sure my quiet time is not too quiet.
Mhmm.
It's number one.
I don't I'm not just trying to have my quiet time in a corner with my tea.
No.
I wanna be profitable.
Number two, think from position of relationship.
是的。
Yeah.
Not a ritual or duty.
Meditation is not a duty.
It's not a responsibility.
It's not a it's it's even not wouldn't even the word habit might be a little but think relationship.
Right?
Have you noticed when you're in a relationship with somebody, how much you think about them?
How often?
是的。
Yeah.
You tell us, I think about you every day.
I mean, it's they're they endanger thoughts.
And then the result is they endanger speech and your decision making.
This person comes up.
Right?
To his relationship.
是的。
Yeah.
And then we said, be careful about trying to set aside this perfect time.
It might be the perfect today, but it might not be tomorrow.
But I don't want to limit my my meditation to a schedule or formula.
是的。
Yeah.
Well, here's 17 ways to improve your meditation.
I want it in my life.
Right?
But not as a as a work requirement.
Don't make it a job.
是的。
Yeah.
If it's a relationship, it's gotta be more intimate than that, more personal than that.
Can you maybe speak on that more?
Because like for me, like, I feel like I needed the schedule.
I needed that at first to like really put it in there because if it's in there, then I'm more committed to do it.
I wrote it down.
It's in there.
Kind of like a date night with my wife.
Like, have to kind of write it in because we're busy and we have two separate jobs, yada yada.
And then, you know, because we have that, like, we're more committed to that.
And then it's through that, then I, you know, maybe we could get away from it after a while because we've done it and it's formed a a habit or conviction, and now I'm able to, you know, just so what what do you think about having that?
I I think it's a good starter.
是的。
Yeah.
It's kinda like it's like it gets me going.
It's like going to the gym, maybe I wanna have a habit of going at a certain time with a buddy, and that gets me going.
But at some point, when it becomes part of who I am and here's how a conviction or a habit becomes real.
It becomes part of your identity.
Did it engage did it transcend your schedule?
It's like you do it.
Like, case in point, there was a certain schedule you had for brushing your teeth.
And to start Yeah.
Hopefully.
So then it started, and you brushed your teeth every morning before you woke up.
Right?
是的。
Yeah.
But at a certain point, it's beyond routine.
是的。
Yeah.
You you don't need to do it at the moment.
You can do it anytime you want to because the goal of clean teeth is higher than the responsibility it is to a schedule.
So that you have that's a good balance by you, like, okay, yeah, maybe I'm starting.
Okay, so how do I do that?
Well, let's talk about that.
How do I start developing the habit of meditation in my life?
We've talked about what it is.
There's a lot of forms to it.
Like you said, meditation could be me verbalizing, repeating, reading it verse out loud, reading it with emphasis, personalizing.
It could be writing it out.
It could be asking questions.
It could be rereading it over and over.
It could be thinking about it.
It could be praying about all of that as meditation.
It's a very wide opportunity you have.
The most important thing about it is between you and God.
是的。
Yeah.
Sometimes you may invite someone else to meditate with a I've done that with people like, okay, let's think about this verse together.
Then that's corporate meditation.
When you come to church and you sit in a congregation listening to the same word, that's corporate meditation.
And then we're all in Hebrews four two mixing faith with what we've heard.
是的。
Yeah.
Because this is the word of God, so I I automatically have to use faith to even comprehend it or even even align myself with it.
It requires faith.
So okay.
What let's think of some ways together here, because maybe I'm listening to the props and say, okay, pastor.
I I wanna work on meditation.
I think it could help me.
Because here's the problem.
You already do meditation.
是的。
Yeah.
The question is not that you're not meditating.
It's what are you meditating on?
What are you thinking about?
Right?
That's a good little fast.
Best you can, at the end of the day, write down the top five or 10 topics you think you've thought about the most in the day.
Oh, wow.
It'll shock you.
And usually, they're either responsibility oriented or crisis related.
是的。
Yeah.
Responsibility, like, I gotta do this.
You thought about it.
Or crisis, something's happening.
I want and you're reacting to it.
And then it grabs your mind.
It grabs your like, fear can do that.
They can emotions can hijack your thinking and cause you to think a certain way for a long period of time.
Meditation can here's why it calms your nerves when you when you meditate for a good season.
It calms you down because it takes the burden off of trying to figure life out.
是的。
Yeah.
I can focus just on God's things.
I would say to start, meditation, I wanna ask God when my morning prayer, give me something to think about concerning you.
Or I might be more intentional and open my Bible and pick a verse.
Maybe not a chapter.
I'm not talking about just reading the Bible, reading chapters.
Go reading through the Bible is great.
Read the Bible helps saturate your mind with the scriptures, but grab one.
I wouldn't say more than a than a verse.
Don't get two.
Don't get five.
Get one.
好的。
Okay.
Colossians two ten.
I'm completed in him.
I want to think about that.
Maybe I write that down on a piece of paper.
I had one guy that I was working with.
He had a talk with focus.
So I said, every day, pick a verse and make it your screensaver.
是的。
Yeah.
So every so he so he would put it on us with a Colossians, and he put it us and then every time he picked up his phone, which is a lot, for us Western people, it's a lot, he would see the verse right there.
He'd see the address and the verse.
是的。
Yeah.
Think on these things.
And then he oh, and he put it down.
Pick it up.
It would be right there every time.
是的。
Yeah.
So it was it was in it was right in front of him subliminally, and he kept seeing it.
Then I would say just and then every day, change the paper, talk about it, think about it, mention it to people, introduce it to your and then you're saturating your mind with it.
And then because then approach God about it.
What does that mean for me, God?
是的。
Yeah.
I know what it says, but what does it mean?
And then you could bring it to other people too And as then it's just like, alright, throughout the day, I'm talking about it, thinking about I am meditating without, you know, like you said, going down to this ritual kind of thing.
And I love the beauty of it because it's there's a lot of liberty in it, you know, because that's how God is.
He just wants to have relationship and communication with us.
当然。
Absolutely.
So once we kind of reciprocate it to him Mhmm.
He's gonna start bringing it back up, like you said, the in the dreams and whatnot.
That's scary, actually.
是的。
Yeah.
Dream about the Bible.
I haven't had a a Bible verse flash across my eyes yet in a dream.
So but It'll be like pieces.
It's so scary.
Like like, what is that?
It's like something.
Then you wake I've woken up before and said and wrote something down, and it was that.
Or sometimes in the morning when you do wake up, it's like the first thing you think about.
是的。
Yeah.
Because, the Navigators, the Bible group that used to hand out Bibles to Christian organization, they had a phrase called first word, last word.
好的。
Okay.
And what it meant was in the morning, the first word you have is the Bible.
Before you look at your phone, before you do anything else, the first word was and then at night, the last word was the Bible.
Before you spin, roll over, hit the bed, the very last thing you look at is not your phone, but the last thing you look at is the Bible.
And that and that's how they would frame their evening, beginning and end.
That's and for most people, that's the place you're in the longest without moving is when you sleep.
You just locked in and you just bookend your bookend your night with the Bible.
That's good.
I like that.
Like, frame it, you know, because we are in control of kind of, you know, the beginning of our morning waking up.
是的。
Mhmm.
We can wake up a little five minutes early to get this, like you said.
是的。
Mhmm.
Start off small.
That's huge.
One scripture, one word, one little phrase.
I could frame and then I can be more control of my evening when everything's winding down.
And then the middle, there's could be so much thrown at me.
And we see this, like you said, Psalm 119 verse 23, 24.
He says, Even though the princes sit and plot against me, your servant will meditate on your statutes.
He says your testimonies are my delights.
They are my counselor.
So trouble comes throughout my day.
Throughout my day, trouble comes.
Meditation is a great thing to have during trouble.
Absolutely.
But the enemy wants to really just hone us in with trouble, different things in our projections in our mind, whatever it is Mhmm.
To get us away from this conviction we're talking about meditation.
Because this is exactly actually what you need.
Maybe you're struggling and going we all are at some point.
And the one thing is we should hone in on, okay, Lord, maybe I have to take a stop, you know, stop.
Mhmm.
Quiet sit back, quiet down, and and just meditate and just ask and talk with you.
Mhmm.
Because what do we do?
We we overthink Absolutely.
How everything's turning.
How can I fix this?
How can I fix that?
But the psalmist is saying, like, the testimonies are my delight.
It'll bring delight in my life, and they'll counsel me in this situation.
And that's what we need most.
Absolutely.
Because maybe it's something we cannot do, you know?
Maybe just meditation is me just now getting through this tough moment, but I'm being comforted in the moment where then I can maybe comfort others.
So it's an amazing thing that meditation can really bring light into a a dark situation.
是的。
Yeah.
Most of us don't think meditation in crisis.
是的。
Yeah.
Right?
We if you notice when you're under pressure, you you get faster.
是的。
Yeah.
对。
Yeah.
You talk faster, you think faster, you get fast.
This is what thieves do, what con men do when they wanna trick you.
They get you going, they get you fast.
是的。
Yeah.
Because you lose you get you don't pay attention, you're not as observant.
They get get you talk and before you don't hey.
Wait a minute.
You just stop paying attention.
And that's what Satan does with us.
He gets us fast.
对。
Yes.
He gets me fast in my thinking.
He gets me fast in my doing.
And then you're like, what have I done?
Well, you you spoke before you thought.
Have you done that?
有。
Yes.
He had the world and the flesh and the devil get you fast.
They get you very, very fast.
And then they they get you very, very general.
You just kind of gloss over everything.
That we that's where the exaggeration comes.
Oh, my life is ruined because of this one thing.
Right?
So it's like, what does meditation do?
Two things that you hit them on the head, the nail on the head.
Number one, meditation slows me down.
It slows me down.
There are very few seat belts in my life.
But when the Holy Spirit you're filled with
the Holy Spirit, the first thing Holy Spirit does is slow you down.
He slows you.
He's the ultimate seat belt for the believer.
He slows you down.
And the second thing meditation does is it makes you specific.
Don't think about that.
Think about this.
哇。
Wow.
Don't think that way.
Very, very specific, which is easy when you slow down.
But if you're trying to be specific at a 100 miles an hour, you're not.
是的。
Yeah.
But if you slow down, that's why in Psalm one Psalm, first Kings nineteen twelve, the Holy Spirit spoke God spoke to Elijah in a still small voice.
Slow it down.
Get it very, very specific.
And that's what helps a lot of us from getting too fast and getting too and by the way, your emotions get you spinning like a spin cycle.
是的。
Yeah.
And meditation's one way to sit down or in the moment, you don't have to sit down physically, but in the moment, slow down, get specific, and get quiet.
And the greater the emotional reaction is, the more you need to slow down.
Slow it down.
Slow it down.
Like run a test because we have a problem Mhmm.
With slowing down and being quiet.
是的。
Yep.
Try to sit in a room for five minutes, you know, just, you know, start slow slow and see if you could even make five minutes without your mind wandering or whatnot or reaching for my phone.
Mhmm.
It's incredible.
And we have the world is built by distraction, really.
是的。
Yes.
Isn't that Pandora's box's ultimate reaction?
分心。
Distraction.
Right?
Isn't that the beginning step to deception?
分心。
Distraction.
Isn't that what thieves and criminals use?
分心。
Distraction.
是的。
Yeah.
Sleight of hand distraction.
If I can get you distracted in your mind, your body will follow.
Everything follows.
只是 distraction。
Just distraction.
So they get in the way.
And meditation grounds me.
It brings me back.
And by the way, when you can be meditative, God can do great things.
Isaac, I wanna say, Isaac got a wife.
In Genesis twenty four sixty three, Isaac went into the fields to meditate, and there comes the liaison with the wife.
Amen.
All you single guys out there, this is it.
You don't need to swipe right.
You don't need to be on all you gotta do is just meditate.
Come on now.
He's like, pastor, I went in the parking lot and I meditated and then over the hill and a four and a Toyota Corolla came my dad, and this girl in the back seat, I said, that's my future.
See what happens, guys?
That's the tickets Yeah.
Helping you.
But I will say this to you.
You'll study better.
Meditation would improve your study life.
Pastors out there can agree with me.
When I first started studying the Bible, I had a long intense hermeneutic, and then my meditation was short.
Now I spend more time in meditation than I do in actual scholarship.
My scholarship is shorter, and my meditation is longer.
Because what God does in meditation is there's this mingling.
There's this mingling of what you've studied, and it gives you light.
Psalm 36 verse nine, in light, you get more light.
The light of my scholarship is enhanced with more light in my meditation.
Like, may study a verse in original languages, background, correlated verses.
好的。
Okay.
That might be a half an hour, forty five minutes, or an hour, but then to actually churn it.
是的。
Yeah.
I know for me, sometimes I can study something, put a lot of study into some three hours, four hours, but then for the next eighteen hours, I'm churning that in my head.
I'm thinking about historical examples.
I'm thinking about practical application.
I'm thinking about this verse, this topic, this theme.
I'm thinking spinning, spinning, and then God gives you fresh things.
You won't have new truth, but you have fresh truth.
是的。
Yeah.
Fresh.
And freshness only comes through meditation.
You're not gonna get that out of a commentary.
You're not gonna get that out of a dictionary.
You're not gonna find freshness on the Internet.
You're not.
Some whatever somebody said on the Internet, someone else has said it before.
Just Google it and find out.
AI will tell you that.
Somebody else said it before.
So you're not gonna nothing's new under the sun in Ecclesiastes.
So how do I have freshness?
Meditation will change your study time.
Try it.
Study a verse.
Study it out hermeneutically or as far as you want to take it, then just think about it.
Think about watch God speak to you right through it.
He will reward your meditation with light.
The entrance of his word gives light, we said earlier.
Right?
The entrance of his word gives light.
Or like, in first second Samuel seven, God speaks to David through the prophet Nathan, and Nathan says, you will not build my house.
There's too much blood on your hands.
David could have been upset.
I would have been upset if everything I did for God, this is what he says.
是的。
Yeah.
You know what David does, the Bible says?
He says in verse 18 of second Samuel seven, David went in and sat before the Lord.
He just said, I'm gonna meditate.
哇。
Wow.
I'm gonna meditate.
When he committed the sin with Bathsheba and and the baby was supposed to die, he said he prayed against it and he prayed against it and he prayed against it, and God said, no.
It's gonna happen.
It happened.
He bathed, he meditated, and he walked with God.
Things are not gonna always go your way.
You're not gonna understand everything, but we learn how to commune with God.
David sat before the Lord.
He meditated.
是的
Yeah.
He's a meditation.
God, I don't know.
Get me quiet.
是的
Yes.
Get me focused and get me specific.
Just get slow me down.
Slow me down.
Slow it down a little bit.
Slow it down, and learn how to meditate because people tell me, I don't know how to hear from God.
Well, have you tried meditation?
How meditation is how you pay attention to God.
是的。
Yeah.
Is the prayer is not just, okay, God.
I'm praying, talk.
And meanwhile, God's like, could you just be quiet?
Could you think with me?
I know this issue over here is important to you,
but can you think with me about this?
Because if you think with me about this, I'll give
you a word that is a solution for that.
是的。
Yeah.
Because meditation is where God really speaks to me one on one, Not just black letters on white pages, but God communes with me.
He connects with me.
Why do you think you see in the gospels?
Jesus always getting along with his father, and as much as it was prayer, there was meditation.
There was this connection, this communion.
哇。
Wow.
It's like, okay.
I need to hear from God today more than anybody else.
Every day of my life, the most important relationship in my life is me and God.
It's number one.
It becomes the filter and the and the witness to every other relationship that I have.
Prayer is part of it.
Bible study is part of it, but I want to think with God.
And as the Psalmist says in Psalm one nine one verse two, he says, I wanna delight in it.
How do I delight in the how do I fall in love with the Bible?
So and so, like, he loves the Bible, but me, I can't get past the king's I don't know.
And you get a Bible written like in crayon, whatever you can find, it gets as simple as possible.
How do I fall in love with the Bible?
